Conformity In Harraway s Essay On Cyborgs
In most cases, finding the median between two highly contrasting points can be challenging, but it is
not so for Haraway s idea of cyborgs and Twain s idea of conformity. Both concepts are interrelated
because the cyborg is the hybrid of both machine and organism, and conformity, is the center of
standing out and barely noticeable . By applying Mark Twain s idea that conformity is a result of self
approval to Donna Haraway s argument that cyborgs are the ramifications of different political and
economic social systems, we can see that because of Haraway s idea that cyborgs are the balance
between two opposites, the same can be said of conformity in Twain s essay, and so conformity is a
result of different societal states due to the idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cyborg acts as a metaphor for the postmodernist view of the world as well as the introduction to
new technology. To Haraway, the blend between nature and civilization gives birth to the cyborg, as it
is a hybrid of machine and organism (pg. 1). As part of her argument, the dualistic division between
biology and technology is no longer present because of the cyborg, and she incorporates the idea of
feminism because she is trying to achieve the same sense of balance of distribution of power between
male and female dominants as in cyborg reality. Since the cyborg does not exist in nature or culture,
and because it is a hybrid, its extent is not limited by dualist archetypes. Haraway sees the cyborg as
the illegitimate offspring of militarism and patriarchal capitalism, not to mention state socialism. (pg.
2) She feels as if different social systems have merged nature and civilization together which explains
the reason behind the birth of the cyborg but their origins are irrelevant because the cyborg s existence
is derived from multiple sources and they are often exceedingly unfaithful to their origins. (pg.

My Summer Reading Influenced My Life
A typical summer day in the life of a six year old girl would consist of many common fun activities
such as coloring, watching the latest television shows on Disney Channel, and playing with Barbies.
However, when I was six years old my summer did not include any of those activities. Rather, my day
included summer reading lists, books, and even more books. It wasn t that I didn t enjoy any of the fun
activities most six year old girls did at my age, but I was much more fascinated with learning.
Through reading I enjoyed learning new words, phrases, and ideas. For example, I would loved
reading books by Dr. Seuss because of the words and phrases that rhymed together. I learned how a
word could rhyme together by having the same similar sound ... Show more content on

By the influence of my mother, I was introduced to an environment such as the public library, where
all I was surrounded by were books. A part of the reason why my mother encouraged me so much to
read is because her parents also pushed her to read too. She states, My parents motivated me to learn
how to read and write in English because as immigrants they couldn t speak or write in the language.
She also states, They encouraged all of my siblings and me to learn English so we could continue
expanding our knowledge and education. I believe that because of my mother s encouragement to read
at a young age has allowed me to develop a strong connection with reading. For example, throughout
high school my goal was to receive good grades all four years so I could attend a four year university.
I spent the majority of my time doing homework, studying for exams, and preparing for my classes,
all of which require a form of reading. I enjoyed high school because of how fast and how in depth my
teachers would go into each lesson. Luckily, I was able to accomplish my goal by ending with a 3.8
GPA and qualifying for acceptance into various

Settlement in the Canadian Maritime Provinces Essay
Introduction
New France was not merely the settlement of a few fur traders. The Acadians were a pastoral like
people who once formed a proud nation in a land called Acadia. Although falling under the
jurisdiction of New France, the Acadians governed separately than the rest of the country and were an
independent entity within New France. Today, the Acadians are the French speaking population of the
Canadian Maritime provinces, and these are the Acadians that were not displaced during the
expulsions, under British rule. Acadia s beginnings, with the construction of Port Royal, could have
marked the colony for success, but instead, led to a troubling conclusion for the European
descendents. Through failed leadership, two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This settlement became the capital of Acadia and would remain so until the expulsion in 1713,
interrupted only for three years, from 1610 1613, when Port Royal briefly fell under British rule.
Although the population of Port Royal grew slowly at first, the French settlers lived well, farming and
hunting. However, Port Royal was difficult to navigate, due to the constant flooding and unstable
building materials.
Although [in 1687] Port Royal is the largest settlement, it contains only nine or ten buildings the
others being barns. All the houses are low, made of pieces of wood ... covered with thatch.
Despite the fertile ground, providing the Acadians with a diverse diet, it would be a struggle to defend
Port Royal in times of discord. The fort itself also often fell into disrepair, as it was difficult to
maintain when flooding constantly eroded the riverbank. Due to this fertile ground, Port Royal
became desirable to the growing British empire. Despite the failing fort, the British settlers became
interested in Port Royal and realized the potential of the marshland. Farming was the main, but not
only, occupation of the Acadians. These people successfully grew a diverse diet including root
vegetables, grains, fruit, and other vegetables, as well as raising pigs, cattle, and sheep. This aided in
flourishment of the Acadian people but also turned the settlement into a potential conquest for the
English Colonies.

Mass Media Influence
Does mass media influence human lives so greatly that a self inflicted 48 hour free period from the
influences of mass media such as television, social media, internet, recorded and live music such as
the radio, could have a measurable effect? As my personal journey into this experiment is laid out the
conclusion will become clear. Through removing forms of mass media such as radio, television,
internet and newspapers I have learned that indeed mass media is not easy to get away from, and it has
a deep impact on mood, response, and critical thought processes. Through a 48 hour period, I
consciously chose to remove all mass media influence, such as social media, television, radio and
recorded music, and in doing thus have come to some rather startling conclusions about the severe and
often silent effect that mass media can have on our lives. This was a rather difficult task as most
people never take the time to consider where and how mass media influences our daily lives, and how
deep the impact can be. The escape from radio is difficult, the desire to lose oneself in television after
a hard day is overwhelming and the sheer amount that we rely on social media is harder still to
understand unless you do without it for a lengthy period. While staying clear of these forms of
obvious mass media such as overt advertisements, or Facebook seemed easy enough, though one can
never be prepared to cope with the interruption of the thought processes and mood changes that
accompany this

The Significance Of Truth In A Monster Calls By Patrick Ness
A Monster Calls: The Significance of Truth The short term pain of accepting the truth is much better
than the long term pain of believing an illusion unknown. In the novel A Monster Calls by Patrick
Ness, a 13 year old boy, Conor O malley, deals with inner struggles when accepting his mother s fatal
illness. Conor experiences hardship when coming to terms with the truth so he chooses to suppress it
with denial and this worsens his grieving process. Conor undergoes a troubling state where he is
lonesome and unwillingly expresses himself through violence and a series of emotional collapses. The
teen s way of coping is not beneficial to either him or is family. A monster in the form of a Yew tree
comes to visit Conor and guides him towards the acceptance of truth. Although Conor is not oblivious
towards his mother s imminent death, he must learn from the monster to fully accept the condition she
is in, in order to move on with his life. The Yew tree monster guides Conor through storytelling, thus
teaching him the importance of accepting the truth. At times, the monster takes a step back and this
allows Conor to discover the importance of truth slowly and independently. The way the monster
approaches Conor and the tactics he uses to enlighten him are the main reasons Conor develops
throughout the novel as an individual. Patrick Ness conveys the importance of truth and how difficult
it is for individuals to accept and come to terms with

Early Sport Diversification Research
In regards to the development of young athletes, a controversial question exists; will the path of early
sport diversification or the path of early sport specialization ultimately lead to greater sport expertise
and elite performance? Specifically, what effects can each pathway have on development of a child s
physical fitness and motor coordination as well as a young athletes career development? Stakes run
high for sports with limited scholarship availability and national team sports, so, when it comes to
athletes who are identified as talented at a young age, in many cases they are pushed to specialize in
that sport early by parents with high expectations and aggressive coaches eager for success. Early

al (2011) showed that significant differences existed between the two groups in the development of
their physical fitness and gross motor coordination. Initially, the data showed that boys ages 10 12 that
sampled multiple sports had significant differences in strength, speed, agility, and gross motor
coordination. There also existed a positive correlation between the number of hours spent participating
in sports per week and its effect on performance. Boys who spent more hours per week training did
significantly better on the strength, flexibility, speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, and gross
motor coordination tests among all age groups. Advantages of this study include that it s ability to
gather data from a large population of boys from multiple age groups (6 12) and focuses on the basic
components of athletic development due to anthropometry, physical fitness, and gross motor
coordination. Unfortunately, the study failed to recognize if the children who participated in multiple
sports have better physical fitness and gross motor coordination solely due to sport sampling. It is
possible that better athletes choose to participate in more sports. Fransen et. al (2011) concluded his
study finding that early diversification may lead to slower improvement in performance than early
specialization, but spending many hours per week in multiple sports before the age of twelve exposes
children to a broad range of physical, personal, and

The Un Peacekeeping Operations Is Impacted By Internal...
More than 2 million inhabitants moved as refugees to neighboring countries. This conflict proves that
innocent people suffer more than militaries during combats. If internal security issues will not end, it
will be very difficult for the UN mission to accomplish the main tasks. This is because the internal
fighting creates more difficult conditions for the peacekeeping operations. Therefore, the success of
the UN peacekeeping operations is impacted by internal security problems. The host government and
security agencies are often gridlocked the UN peacekeeping mission. As a result, the missions cannot
implement mandated tasks because internal security issues.
Besides combat actions between the government forces and local rebels, neighboring country s armed
groups or rebels also play an instrumental role in the battle of the host nation. The neighboring
country s rebels not only create a complex situation in the neighboring country s conflict area, but is
also becoming more dangerous for the peacekeepers because rebels do not have any restrictions. They
have one interest which is money. The neighboring country s rebels survive on looting, robbery, and
kidnapping. For instance, at the beginning of the conflict in South Sudan, the government of South
Sudan was supported by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) which was an armed group located
in north Sudan. The JEM joined the government forces to kill Nuer tribes, rape girls, and women as

Absolute Monarchy In The French Revolution
At its beginnings, monarchy was a political system in which the King was the major authority in his
country. Its power and respect emanated from the belief that he had been chosen by a God or holy
source. Generally, monarchies has always been associated to a religion (Catholicism, in the case of
Spain). It wasn t until the French Revolution, at the end of XVIIIth century, when some countries
started change the way they were governed. Before this Revolution, the only form they had was the
absolute monarchy, in which the king gathered the three state powers: executive, legislative and
judicial. The inhabitants of the nation were submitted to the king s power. Before the French
Revolution, the forms of government were divided into three forms: ... Show more content on

This government ensured democracy, separation of the state powers, freedom (the freedom of speech
was one of the most claimed), justice, equality (regarding to government entities: anybody was better
than other). The Republic also started designing its inhabitants as citizens, a name full of meaning
because it involved all the new rights these people had.
The second form of government created was the Parliamentary Monarchy, in which the king had some
powers and the legislative was hold by the Parliament. This form was set in the UK, but before the
official stabilization there were some precedents: around the XVIIth century, the king had a group of
people that recommended him what to do concerning politics and legal things. This small group ended
up forming the Parliament.
The third and last variant was the keeping of the Absolute Monarchy. It were popular in countries like
Spain, Italy or Russia. This countries had some periods of alternation between republic and monarchy,
until the end of the XIXth century/beginning of the XXth, when finally the Absolute Monarchy
finished, and all of them ended under a dictatorial system. After the dictatorships, Russia and Italy
became Republics, and Spain came back to a Monarchy, Parliamentary in this

Jason Spezza Essay
With training camp a little more than three weeks away, some Dallas Stars players are starting to
trickle back into town. Among the early arrivals is veteran center Jason Spezza.
The last few weeks of the summer I am always antsy to get back with the guys, Spezza said. I am
happy to be in town, trying to get settled and getting ready to go for camp.
Spezza described his summer as pretty uneventful. He spent most of it in the Toronto area, relaxing
and focusing on family.
I ve got the kids, so I like to spend a lot of time at home, stay low key and spend time with them, he
said. Enjoy the time away from the game a little bit.
He spent time tracking another game baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays, who are pushing to make
Major League Baseball s postseason for the first time since they won back to back World Series in
1992 and 1993.

experience for our three guys because we all contributed in different ways.
Spezza is one of a small group of players back in town starting to skate on their own in preparation for
training camp, which gets underway next month in Cedar Park. The comfort level is higher than one
year ago when Spezza was still settling in after being acquired from Ottawa where he had spent his
entire NHL career. And Spezza expects that comfort level to pay off as

Monica Lewinski s The Scarlet Letter
To start off, public shaming is not justified. Under many circumstances the person being shamed made
a mistake and did not intentionally want to hurt another person. In fact, the person making the mistake
is usually the one who is hurt, damaged and suffers the most. As if it s not enough that this person
harms their reputation but strangers who don t even know him or her and don t even know all the
details are very quick to judge what that person said or did. People do not realize how quickly their
shaming actions can trigger other people to react. The word gets out so quickly these days with social
media that one comment or message that is said can blow up almost around the world in hours. The

Changing Gender Roles In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood is a graphic novel written and designed by Marjane Satrapi, a
native of Iran, which outlines her youth and interpretation of the country before, during, and after the
Islamic Revolution of 1979. Many topics are conveyed within the comic, some being the root of
controversy concerning Iran as an Orient from a western perspective. These topics include the history
of Iran and politics, Islam from an ideological perspective, the oppression of women with the hijab,
gender roles in Iranian society, and social classes among Iranians. In order to obtain a general
overview of how these changes affected Iranian society, one must understand a brief historical context
of Iran, from the rise and fall of the Pahlavi dynasty starting in 1925 and ending in 1979, to post
revolution efforts; the distinction between Islam and Islamic Fundamentalism; and the basic
underlining of specific gender roles established from Iranian patriarchy. Persepolis provides a
contextual way to visualize and understand how Iran has been affected socially, politically, and
economically from the viewpoint of young Marjane. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Their Eyes Were Watching God Theme Essay
Zora Neale Hurston conveys the theme that gender can confine one s true potential and freedom in her
novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God. Janie, as a young woman, is controlled by her male
counterparts and is unable to act freely for herself. Her grandmother raised her to strive for stability
and security in her relationships, rather than an emotional connection. Janie is discouraged from
speaking in front of the community and participating in discussions on the porch by her second
husband, the mayor of Eatonville. However, she meets Tea Cake who enables her to freely express
herself. Through her various experiences, she is able to find her true self by breaking down typical
gender stereotypes of the time. Hurston tells the story both through Janie s voice and a third person
omniscient narrator. Hurston s use of multiple points of view allows Janie s thoughts and ideas to be

capable of defining what love truly is, which is a complex idea. Although she is saddened to shoot him

focus on herself and find out who she truly is on the inside. Janie further states, Two things everybody

Why Are We Wash Ourselves With Toxic Chemicals
Are We Washing Ourselves With Toxic Chemicals? Do we ever think about our skin? It is the largest
organ of our body.
Our bodies are constantly exposed to toxic chemicals, poisons, sprays, plastics, processed food, stress
and there for we are becoming unhealthy.
We Eat With Our Skin.
The skin absorbs and eats whatever we put on it. Anything we rub on it or touches our skin can go
directly into the bloodstream.
This is why medicine in skin patches has become so popular over the years; the medications from the
patches absorb directly through the skin. In actual fact, anything you put on the skin can go directly in

Why Is Winston Peacock Murder
The death of Winston Peacock was in fact a suicide, not a murder. Winston was found face down,
holding a gun. He used that gun to shoot himself in the head, thus killing himself. Winston had swords
and guns on the wall. They are in a crisscrossed pattern but one of the guns is missing. The reason as
to why it is missing is because the missing gun is the gun that he is grasping in his hand. Some might
believe somebody stole the gun, shot him, and run, but it is the exact same type of gun Winston is
holding, so a hit and run cannot be a factor. The gun is in his right hand and the right side of his head
is bloody. They indeed match up. If he were to hold the gun up to his head with it in his right hand, it

Space Testing Disaster
Unfortunately, the United States space program suffered a major setback following the tragic failure
during testing on January 27, 1967. This failure proved fatal when three astronauts were killed during
a fire in a command module on the ground. These first casualties of the space program shocked the
American public. The testing failure was blamed on NASA by both Congress and the media. The
widely presented cause was inadequate engineering and the public believed that NASA was
emphasizing being first to the moon over the safety of the program. Nevertheless, the astronauts that

The public attention of Americans was captivated by the Space Race from its beginning with the
launch of Soviet Sputnik in 1957 until the landing of Apollo 11 in 1969. This attention was captured
using a relatively new medium of media: television. Through their representation in national televised
media, astronauts became the ultimate American heroes. Additionally, through the depiction of the
national media, Soviets were pictured as the ultimate villains, with their failed efforts to surpass the
United States advancements and to prove the Communist system ( The Space ). Some call the Apollo
program, and the Space Race in its entirety, a child of the Cold War. Following the launch of Sputnik,
the United States responded by building a foundation for its own space program NASA (Balogh 14).
This led to the United States reclaiming its unofficial title of the most technologically advanced nation

Color-Blind Racism
Sociologist define race as a socially defined category based on real or percived biological differnces
between groups of people . In the 19th century biologist came up with the three different categories
that groups the three human races: Mongoloid, Causasoid and Negroid. They belived that different
races where charaterized by biological makeup. But modern sciences have proved that theory to be
wrong because there is no such thing as a pure race. We are 99.9% genetically idenitcal. Race is just a
concept humans made up, it isn t actually real.
A minortiy group is the percentage of a ethnic group in a certain area. While dominate culture stay
dominant even if thy are technically the minorty, people of color are still considered to be minorties.
Sociologists define a minority as a group of people that are different from others in the same society
by race, nationality, religion, or language. A minortiey group is a social group that is systematically

because the goal is for people to reconize and be aware for race in our everyday lives. We have to

Com470 Behaviors of E-Tailing
Behaviors of E Tailing Maximino Ruiz University of Phoenix Behaviors of E Tailing Technology
changes the way companies do business throughout the globe. At one period in history when a
technological change was introduced in an organization, it was a big deal because, unlike current
advancements, the changes were not made so frequently. Every day, upgrades and new products are
developed to make companies more efficient and productive. In the mid 1990s with the use of the
Internet, companies realized that more people would be spending his or her hard earned money online
than ever before. They could also foresee that the number of people and dollars would increase

When the consumer received this message, noise is reduced, thus increasing the chances of e
commerce because the consumer is already at the site for one product, but may leave with two. The
last behavior associated with e tailing would be the partnership potentially created after the purchase
has been made. Consumers who make purchases online want to know the full story about the product
or service and what he or she is involving themselves in. It is in the best interest of the e tailer to keep
their process simple and user friendly. Too many options and side pages keep consumers from doing
what companies need them to do, make purchases. E tailing allows companies to remain clean and
turn inventory over faster to make room for newer products. Customers dislike thinking they are
required to pay one amount, and after charges, taxes, and fees pay a different. Online companies that
inform their client base upfront about fees and charges have a better chance of keeping that business.
Finally, learning about the customer through the use of consumer behavior and traffic recognition
software enables the e tailer to understand what their customers are most interested in, and willing to
buy the most of. (ClickZ, 2011). The communication medium for this behavior begins when the
customer is sent a message to inform that individual of the company s gratitude for their business and

Primark Case
Building a clothing brand from the ground up in the U.S. can be a daunting task for a mid size
entrepreneurial start up. Given the competitive nature both domestically and internationally, every
avenue for increased market share must be explored. The apparel industry in particular is constantly
changing due to evolving fashion trends which is stimulated by social media. In order to keep pace,
we must continuously offer innovative and unique products to help maintain and grow our existing
business. In the event of failing to innovate and upgrade our products, sales will be adversely
impacted and create excess inventory. As a result of this, clearance sales and widespread markdowns
will help clear the inventory but will ultimately dilute the brand. The current market outlook for the
clothing industry in the U.S. can be described as rocky at best. Major brands such as J. Crew,
Abercrombie Fitch, and Gap have struggled mightily. Gap, once the world leader in specialty apparel,
has particularly fallen on hard times. Over the past decade, sales have fallen 8% and in June 2016, the
clothing giant plans on closing one quarter of its stores in North America (Faster, Cheaper Fashion,
2015). Primark, on the other hand, is an international clothing brand which was ... Show more content

The Star Wars Trilogy Essay
The Star Wars Trilogy always have one thing that is stated: the Force. The Force is an unlimited power
that is in every living objects. As exciting as that sounds, the idea of the Force has been created out of
many religions. The idea of the Force came from different religion such as: Taoism, Hinduism,
Buddhism, and Christianity Taoism is related in the Force because the Force was viewed as energy
around everything. When Obi Wan told Luke that he should let go of his sight and follow the instincts
to guard the blaster. Luke utilized his instincts to follow the energy around him and was able to guard
the blaster. This suggests that Taoism is in the Force because when Luke used his instincts it revealed
concepts of Taoism called Wu Wei. Wu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Force depicts the World Soul while when Obi Wan, Yoda, and Anakin joined the Force, they
depicted the Atmans. Another example of how Hinduism is used in the Force is when Yoda stated,Fear
is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. This
reveals that there is a good side as well as a dark side. Hinduism has good Karma as well as bad
Karma. Fear will lead to desire and desire will lead to bad Karma. Then with desire, people will go to
the dark side. Not only did Hinduism give the ideas of merging with the Force, Buddhism also gave
ideas to the Force as well. Buddhism is utilized in the Force by utilizing the ideas of Attachment. This
gives ideas to the Force because attachment leads to the dark side of the Force. For example, Anakin
had an attachment toward his mother. This lead to suffering because in Buddhism, attachment was the
origin of all suffering. Anakin became lost and was off the path of enlightenment. When his mom had
died, his fear turned into anger and he went to kill all of the Tusken Raiders in the base. This reveals
that Buddhism concepts were utilized in the Force because the concepts created a way into the dark
side of the Force. He had lost all of his enlightenment when he fell to the dark side. His attachment
became his suffering. He was having nightmares about his mom and feared her death. This connects
Buddhism to the Force because Buddhism talks about the ideas of achieving enlightenment while

Microbes play an important role in the acquisition and transfer of nutrients in soil (Richardson, 2001).
Therefore, the utilization of soil microbes to activate minerals and enhance nutrient uptake in plants
has attracted increasing attention in sustainable agriculture (Fayez and Mahmoud, 2006).
Phosphorus (P) is one of the major essential macronutrients for plants. In India, it is estimated that
there are almost 260 million tons of phosphate rock deposits and this material should provide a cheap
source of phosphate fertilizer for crop production (FAI 2002). Although in soil P is available
abundantly its bioavailability in soil remains low due to the chemical transformations of P into
insoluble forms (Rodríguez and Fraga 1999) and thus a major constraint to the plant growth and crop
production (Chiquito Contreras et al., 2012). Bacteria with PS activity have been considered as one of
the possible alternatives for mediating inorganic phosphate solubilization and increasing its
availability to the plants (Rodriguez et al., 2006).
Iron (Fe) is an essential plant micronutrient and microbial siderophores enhance Fe uptake by plants
(Kloepper et al., 1980; Katiyar and Goel, 2004; Dimkpa et al., 2009) and thus plays an important role
in plant growth promotion. Although large portion of Fe is present in soil it acts as a

Essay on Violent Video Games Raise Aggression
Throughout history man kind has always searched for ways to entertain himself, each time developing
new activities and games. Video games have become a very popular way to spend time and have fun
from the 1970 s up to now. With new developments appeared different video game genres from
adventure to racing, but the violent video games appear to be the most popular ones (Shin, 2003), for
example: shooters, fighting and video games where you have to eliminate, destroy, or kill your
enemies. Video games have become very influential on children and adults (Stafford, 1999). With
violent video games humans are more prone to act aggressively, to have aggressive thoughts and
become numb towards violence (Harding, 2009). Apart from these they are ... Show more content on

Now a day however VDU s have evolved and we created LCD s with higher quality and standard
giving the opportunity for violent video games to be more graphic and real (Stafford, 1999) like for
example when characters get shot a large spray of blood covers the walls and floor near the character
(Shin, 2003). The processor of the consoles has also been a key factor to the development of more real
looking violent video games. From Intel s 4004 microprocessor up to Intel s core 2 duo E8500
processor we have seen how computers are able to do more tasks in less time. This development has
given a way for violent video games to be more free in the sense that more actions can be made, the
virtual worlds are bigger and there are more objectives to be done or enemies to be eliminated. C. The
impact of the issue Violence in video games has been proved to raise the aggression on video gamers
in the short and long term, whether it s in their language, attitude or actions. Also video games not
only cause this but they also decrease prosocial behavior and empathy (Anderson, 2010). Violent
video games have been one of the main reasons why students decide to shoot everyone in an
educational institution like the well known Columbine Massacre in 1999. [They] liked to play Doom
(a computer game) in the afternoons , No one can say for sure why...theories including...violent video

Casey Martin Case Summary
Facts:
Casey Martin is a talented golfer with many achievements throughout his golf career. He also has a
disability under the ADA, known as the Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, affecting the flow of
blood from this right leg back to his heart. The disease is progressive, causing severe pain, where if he
walked an 18 hole golf course, it would create a risk of hemorrhaging, developing blood clots, etc.
When Martin became a professional golfer, he qualified for the final round of the qualifying
competition. He made a request to use a golf cart during the professional tours, supporting his
reasoning with medical records; PGA Tour, Inc. refused because the competitive nature of the game
would be fundamentally altered if Martin were given an unfair advantage.
Martin filed a suit under Title III of the ADA, which requires that an entity operating public
accommodations to make reasonable modifications in its policies when...necessary to afford
such...accommodations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

PGA cannot discriminate against spectators or competitors on the basis of disability. o PGA s golf
tours and their qualifying rounds fit within the scope of Title III and within Martin s protection, being
that a golf course is considered a public accommodation, where PGA leases these golf courses. PGA
must not discriminate against any individual in the full and equal enjoyment of the goods... Title III,
therefore, prohibits PGA from denying Martin equal access to the golf courses.

nature of the game. The purpose of the walking rule is not compromised by allowing Martin to use a

African American Oppression Between 1865 And 1905
Oppression is a common theme in history. Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are
inevitably strengthened by the oppression through commitment and perseverance. African Americans
were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history. The emancipation of
slavery in 1865 signified the slow fight for freedom and equality for African Americans. Between
1865 and 1905 they suffered extreme oppression, but remained united in their fight to gain
independence.
In 1865 all slaves were emancipated which declared them free, but racism was far from over. In the
South, freed African Americans continued to be killed as an act of racial violence. Between the period
of 1865 1905 African Americans fought to defeat their oppression. By the year 1905, freedmen were
still fighting for the same rights they were fighting for in 1865. African Americans were oppressed in
many regards, a great example of this is the black codes. These codes were written into Louisiana law
which prohibited blacks from passing within the limits of said parish without a special permit, renting
or buying a house within said parish, working without a white person supervising them, ... Show more

Klan had against me was that I was bragging and boasting that I wanted the land. African Americans
could have accepted they would never have equal rights, but they remained steadfast in their pursuit of
equality. As time passed, their efforts gained momentum and strength. In 1905, schools were built for
African Americans. This was paramount for the culture because it signified imminent changes in the

To Kill A Mocking Bird From Trayvon Martin to Black Lives Matter
People have different opinions and views on subjects and we won t always agree with them or
understand why they think that way. You never really understand a person until you consider things
from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it. I like that Atticus is
teaching his kids valuable lessons. We don t know what makes someone act or dress or do the things
they do, so we make assumptions and conclusions in order to understand , but the only true way of
understanding someone is through sympathy and compassion.
I value this next quote because I believe a lot of what Atticus is saying still applies today. Not just
white men cheating black men but white people in general cheat colored people everyday simply for
being white. As you grow older, you ll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let
me tell you something and don t you forget it whenever a white man does that to a black man, no
matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, he is trash. For example in
today s society we have wage gaps, people get paid based on what their race is even if they share the
same job and do the same work. Even though today we like to deny racism exists, it does we just
chose to ignore it.
Again in the book we see Atticus teaching his children that making assumptions and

The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen poe the young man killed the older man, because he had a point of
motivation. His point of motivation was in the beginning, it was the old man s eye. A pale blue eye,
with a thick film over it. The young man felt as if the eye was constantly watching him. He wanted to
get rid of it. His imagination got the best of him. I placed my hand upon the heart and held it there
many minutes. There was no pulsation. This sentence explains how the young man killed the old man.
He wanted the eye to be gone so his mind was telling him the only way to get rid of it was to kill the

The Kenmore Midget Baseball Board
The Kenmore Midget Baseball board relied entirely upon one person to run the organization and as a
result needs to create a new structure in which board members are more involved. After the board of
the Kenmore Midget Baseball League voted against allowing the chairwoman Sarah s husband to take
over the league s concession stand (as it was a clear conflict of interest) Sarah left the organization
abruptly and rather dramatically. While Sarah s departure was an initial blow to the league, over time
it came to be seen as a great opportunity to rebuild the organization and this time build a more
balanced, stronger organization. The main lesson learned was that the board needed to govern as a
collective and that it was each person s responsibility to contribute to the well being of the league. In
the following paragraphs I will discuss what went wrong while Sarah was the league chair and how
the league board will be able to address these issues.
Gill puts forth his four pillars of excellence in which he thinks every good board possessed. These
pillars are Board Development, Management of board work and meetings, decision making and .
board and organizational culture.Throughout this paper I will show how after the departure of sarah
the league designed and created a good board by implementing each pillar. At first glance it may have
appeared as if Sarah was an asset to the organization but upon further inspection one can determine
that when one single person dominates the

  • 2. Conformity In Harraway s Essay On Cyborgs In most cases, finding the median between two highly contrasting points can be challenging, but it is not so for Haraway s idea of cyborgs and Twain s idea of conformity. Both concepts are interrelated because the cyborg is the hybrid of both machine and organism, and conformity, is the center of standing out and barely noticeable . By applying Mark Twain s idea that conformity is a result of self approval to Donna Haraway s argument that cyborgs are the ramifications of different political and economic social systems, we can see that because of Haraway s idea that cyborgs are the balance between two opposites, the same can be said of conformity in Twain s essay, and so conformity is a result of different societal states due to the idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cyborg acts as a metaphor for the postmodernist view of the world as well as the introduction to new technology. To Haraway, the blend between nature and civilization gives birth to the cyborg, as it is a hybrid of machine and organism (pg. 1). As part of her argument, the dualistic division between biology and technology is no longer present because of the cyborg, and she incorporates the idea of feminism because she is trying to achieve the same sense of balance of distribution of power between male and female dominants as in cyborg reality. Since the cyborg does not exist in nature or culture, and because it is a hybrid, its extent is not limited by dualist archetypes. Haraway sees the cyborg as the illegitimate offspring of militarism and patriarchal capitalism, not to mention state socialism. (pg. 2) She feels as if different social systems have merged nature and civilization together which explains the reason behind the birth of the cyborg but their origins are irrelevant because the cyborg s existence is derived from multiple sources and they are often exceedingly unfaithful to their origins. • 3. My Summer Reading Influenced My Life A typical summer day in the life of a six year old girl would consist of many common fun activities such as coloring, watching the latest television shows on Disney Channel, and playing with Barbies. However, when I was six years old my summer did not include any of those activities. Rather, my day included summer reading lists, books, and even more books. It wasn t that I didn t enjoy any of the fun activities most six year old girls did at my age, but I was much more fascinated with learning. Through reading I enjoyed learning new words, phrases, and ideas. For example, I would loved reading books by Dr. Seuss because of the words and phrases that rhymed together. I learned how a word could rhyme together by having the same similar sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the influence of my mother, I was introduced to an environment such as the public library, where all I was surrounded by were books. A part of the reason why my mother encouraged me so much to read is because her parents also pushed her to read too. She states, My parents motivated me to learn how to read and write in English because as immigrants they couldn t speak or write in the language. She also states, They encouraged all of my siblings and me to learn English so we could continue expanding our knowledge and education. I believe that because of my mother s encouragement to read at a young age has allowed me to develop a strong connection with reading. For example, throughout high school my goal was to receive good grades all four years so I could attend a four year university. I spent the majority of my time doing homework, studying for exams, and preparing for my classes, all of which require a form of reading. I enjoyed high school because of how fast and how in depth my teachers would go into each lesson. Luckily, I was able to accomplish my goal by ending with a 3.8 GPA and qualifying for acceptance into various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Settlement in the Canadian Maritime Provinces Essay Introduction New France was not merely the settlement of a few fur traders. The Acadians were a pastoral like people who once formed a proud nation in a land called Acadia. Although falling under the jurisdiction of New France, the Acadians governed separately than the rest of the country and were an independent entity within New France. Today, the Acadians are the French speaking population of the Canadian Maritime provinces, and these are the Acadians that were not displaced during the expulsions, under British rule. Acadia s beginnings, with the construction of Port Royal, could have marked the colony for success, but instead, led to a troubling conclusion for the European descendents. Through failed leadership, two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This settlement became the capital of Acadia and would remain so until the expulsion in 1713, interrupted only for three years, from 1610 1613, when Port Royal briefly fell under British rule. Although the population of Port Royal grew slowly at first, the French settlers lived well, farming and hunting. However, Port Royal was difficult to navigate, due to the constant flooding and unstable building materials. Although [in 1687] Port Royal is the largest settlement, it contains only nine or ten buildings the others being barns. All the houses are low, made of pieces of wood ... covered with thatch. Despite the fertile ground, providing the Acadians with a diverse diet, it would be a struggle to defend Port Royal in times of discord. The fort itself also often fell into disrepair, as it was difficult to maintain when flooding constantly eroded the riverbank. Due to this fertile ground, Port Royal became desirable to the growing British empire. Despite the failing fort, the British settlers became interested in Port Royal and realized the potential of the marshland. Farming was the main, but not only, occupation of the Acadians. These people successfully grew a diverse diet including root vegetables, grains, fruit, and other vegetables, as well as raising pigs, cattle, and sheep. This aided in flourishment of the Acadian people but also turned the settlement into a potential conquest for the English Colonies. Other Acadian Settlements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mass Media Influence Does mass media influence human lives so greatly that a self inflicted 48 hour free period from the influences of mass media such as television, social media, internet, recorded and live music such as the radio, could have a measurable effect? As my personal journey into this experiment is laid out the conclusion will become clear. Through removing forms of mass media such as radio, television, internet and newspapers I have learned that indeed mass media is not easy to get away from, and it has a deep impact on mood, response, and critical thought processes. Through a 48 hour period, I consciously chose to remove all mass media influence, such as social media, television, radio and recorded music, and in doing thus have come to some rather startling conclusions about the severe and often silent effect that mass media can have on our lives. This was a rather difficult task as most people never take the time to consider where and how mass media influences our daily lives, and how deep the impact can be. The escape from radio is difficult, the desire to lose oneself in television after a hard day is overwhelming and the sheer amount that we rely on social media is harder still to understand unless you do without it for a lengthy period. While staying clear of these forms of obvious mass media such as overt advertisements, or Facebook seemed easy enough, though one can never be prepared to cope with the interruption of the thought processes and mood changes that accompany this ... • 6. The Significance Of Truth In A Monster Calls By Patrick Ness A Monster Calls: The Significance of Truth The short term pain of accepting the truth is much better than the long term pain of believing an illusion unknown. In the novel A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, a 13 year old boy, Conor O malley, deals with inner struggles when accepting his mother s fatal illness. Conor experiences hardship when coming to terms with the truth so he chooses to suppress it with denial and this worsens his grieving process. Conor undergoes a troubling state where he is lonesome and unwillingly expresses himself through violence and a series of emotional collapses. The teen s way of coping is not beneficial to either him or is family. A monster in the form of a Yew tree comes to visit Conor and guides him towards the acceptance of truth. Although Conor is not oblivious towards his mother s imminent death, he must learn from the monster to fully accept the condition she is in, in order to move on with his life. The Yew tree monster guides Conor through storytelling, thus teaching him the importance of accepting the truth. At times, the monster takes a step back and this allows Conor to discover the importance of truth slowly and independently. The way the monster approaches Conor and the tactics he uses to enlighten him are the main reasons Conor develops throughout the novel as an individual. • 7. Early Sport Diversification Research In regards to the development of young athletes, a controversial question exists; will the path of early sport diversification or the path of early sport specialization ultimately lead to greater sport expertise and elite performance? Specifically, what effects can each pathway have on development of a child s physical fitness and motor coordination as well as a young athletes career development? Stakes run high for sports with limited scholarship availability and national team sports, so, when it comes to athletes who are identified as talented at a young age, in many cases they are pushed to specialize in that sport early by parents with high expectations and aggressive coaches eager for success. Initially, the data showed that boys ages 10 12 that sampled multiple sports had significant differences in strength, speed, agility, and gross motor coordination. There also existed a positive correlation between the number of hours spent participating in sports per week and its effect on performance. Boys who spent more hours per week training did significantly better on the strength, flexibility, speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, and gross motor coordination tests among all age groups. Advantages of this study include that it s ability to gather data from a large population of boys from multiple age groups (6 12) and focuses on the basic components of athletic development due to anthropometry, physical fitness, and gross motor coordination. Unfortunately, the study failed to recognize if the children who participated in multiple sports have better physical fitness and gross motor coordination solely due to sport sampling. It is possible that better athletes choose to participate in more sports. Fransen et. al (2011) concluded his study finding that early diversification may lead to slower improvement in performance than early specialization, but spending many hours per week in multiple sports before the age of twelve exposes children to a broad range of physical, personal, and ... This conflict proves that innocent people suffer more than militaries during combats. If internal security issues will not end, it will be very difficult for the UN mission to accomplish the main tasks. This is because the internal fighting creates more difficult conditions for the peacekeeping operations. Therefore, the success of the UN peacekeeping operations is impacted by internal security problems. The host government and security agencies are often gridlocked the UN peacekeeping mission. As a result, the missions cannot implement mandated tasks because internal security issues. Besides combat actions between the government forces and local rebels, neighboring country s armed groups or rebels also play an instrumental role in the battle of the host nation. The neighboring country s rebels not only create a complex situation in the neighboring country s conflict area, but is also becoming more dangerous for the peacekeepers because rebels do not have any restrictions. It wasn t until the French Revolution, at the end of XVIIIth century, when some countries started change the way they were governed. The second form of government created was the Parliamentary Monarchy, in which the king had some powers and the legislative was hold by the Parliament. This form was set in the UK, but before the official stabilization there were some precedents: around the XVIIth century, the king had a group of people that recommended him what to do concerning politics and legal things. As if it s not enough that this person harms their reputation but strangers who don t even know him or her and don t even know all the details are very quick to judge what that person said or did. Changing Gender Roles In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood is a graphic novel written and designed by Marjane Satrapi, a native of Iran, which outlines her youth and interpretation of the country before, during, and after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Many topics are conveyed within the comic, some being the root of controversy concerning Iran as an Orient from a western perspective. These topics include the history of Iran and politics, Islam from an ideological perspective, the oppression of women with the hijab, gender roles in Iranian society, and social classes among Iranians. In order to obtain a general overview of how these changes affected Iranian society, one must understand a brief historical context of Iran, from the rise and fall of the Pahlavi dynasty starting in 1925 and ending in 1979, to post revolution efforts; the distinction between Islam and Islamic Fundamentalism; and the basic underlining of specific gender roles established from Iranian patriarchy. He used that gun to shoot himself in the head, thus killing himself. Winston had swords and guns on the wall. They are in a crisscrossed pattern but one of the guns is missing. The reason as to why it is missing is because the missing gun is the gun that he is grasping in his hand. Some might believe somebody stole the gun, shot him, and run, but it is the exact same type of gun Winston is holding, so a hit and run cannot be a factor. In the 19th century biologist came up with the three different categories that groups the three human races: Mongoloid, Causasoid and Negroid. They belived that different races where charaterized by biological makeup. But modern sciences have proved that theory to be wrong because there is no such thing as a pure race. This reveals that there is a good side as well as a dark side. Hinduism has good Karma as well as bad Karma. Fear will lead to desire and desire will lead to bad Karma. Then with desire, people will go to the dark side. Not only did Hinduism give the ideas of merging with the Force, Buddhism also gave ideas to the Force as well. Microbes play an important role in the acquisition and transfer of nutrients in soil (Richardson, 2001). Therefore, the utilization of soil microbes to activate minerals and enhance nutrient uptake in plants has attracted increasing attention in sustainable agriculture (Fayez and Mahmoud, 2006). Phosphorus (P) is one of the major essential macronutrients for plants. In India, it is estimated that there are almost 260 million tons of phosphate rock deposits and this material should provide a cheap source of phosphate fertilizer for crop production (FAI 2002). Although in soil P is available abundantly its bioavailability in soil remains low due to the chemical transformations of P into insoluble forms (Rodríguez and Fraga 1999) and thus a major constraint to the plant growth and crop production (Chiquito Contreras et al., 2012). Bacteria with PS activity have been considered as one of the possible alternatives for mediating inorganic phosphate solubilization and increasing its availability to the plants (Rodriguez et al., 2006). Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are inevitably strengthened by the oppression through commitment and perseverance. African Americans were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history.
