Hurricane Harvey Hurricane
Natural disasters have costed the government a massive amount in the past years. Hurricanes such as
Katrina left people in Florida, Haiti, Louisiana and other parts of the gulf feeling helpless. Katrina
ravaged states along the coast of the gulf making it the most expensive damage from a natural disaster,
108 billion dollars. However, in 2017, the disasters required over three hundred and ten billion dollars
for repairs (Bowden, 2017). How will this be paid for? Will the government have to cut budgets from
other programs? Over five natural disasters have struck the United States and surrounding countries
this year. These disasters consisted of hurricanes, mudslides, wildfires, flooding, and earthquakes.

Hurricane Irma crippled Puerto Rico with one of the largest blackouts in history. CNN reported last
month that only twenty six percent of the electricity in Puerto Rico had been restored since the
hurricane ripped through in September (Levenson, 2017). It has been over three months and over half
of their population is lacking electricity and clean water. By the time Irma reached Florida, it regained
momentum and flooded Miami with over twenty inches of rain (Weather Channel, 2017). This
resulted in a state of emergency and complete shutdown of the city. Also, Orlando and Walt Disney
World experienced some aggressive winds and thunderstorms. Wildfires engulfing California reached
ten billion dollars in repair costs. This estimated cost was shared before the fires roared into Southern
California. Solutions to this continued problem could include reserving more funds into the natural
disasters budget. This would provide a safety net for the citizens of the affected state along with the
salaries of those helping such as firefighters and

The Historical and Colonial Context of Brian Friel s Translations
Regarded by many as Brian Friel s theatrical masterpiece, Seamus Deane described Translations as a
sequence of events in history which are transformed by his writing into a parable of events in the
present day (Introduction 22). The play was first produced in Derry in 1980. It was the first production
by Field Day, a cultural arts group founded by Friel and the actor Stephen Rea, and associated with
Deane, Seamus Heaney and Tom Paulin.
As Deane asserts, the play is in many respects an intelligent and enlightening metaphor for the
situation in Northern Ireland. The aims of raising cultural awareness and dispelling socio political
apathy in the North were central to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This culminated in the Rebellion of 1798, lead by Wolfe Tone and the Society of United Irishmen, in
which Hugh and Jimmy participated: The road to Sligo. A spring morning. 1798. Going into battle
(445). But, as these characters soon discovered, the rebellion failed resulting in large executions and
the passing of the Act of Union in 1800. This piece of legislation, effective from 1 January 1801,
brought Ireland under the direct rule of the British Crown.
1823 saw the rise of Daniel O Connell (the only real person mentioned in the play), a disillusioned
veteran of 1798 who founded the Catholic Association. O Connell campaigned for better civil rights
and social conditions for the Irish people, hence Maire reporting that he said We should all be learning
to speak English (399). O Connell believed that it was necessary to use the English language in order
to allow Ireland to progress in a quickly modernising Western world. In 1829, due to his efforts in
Parliament, the Catholic Emancipation Act came into force overturning the penal laws.
It was at this juncture, when the play takes place, that Britain began to make deeper inroads to Irish
society and culture. An attempt to colonise the mind and the people as opposed to conquering land
through brute force. Translations is Friel s vehicle for representing methods central to the colonial
discourse of Imperialist aspirations. In the foreground of the play

The Ambassador Program is Necessary Because People Must...
Insightful Guides
When you were younger, did you ever get separated from your parent and not know what to do or
whom to go to for assistance, and because you didn t know what to do you just wandered aimlessly
around? I know I have, and that s what a lot of people who are lost like that do. In fact, that happens a
lot here with new students. Yes, there are the peer helpers but that only gives the new student one
guide for one day. And that guide doesn t even show them their classes, they take them to the classes
they have and then the new student, the very next day, is on their own to find their own way. But
wouldn t it be great if they knew someone, or multiple people who could help them on the spot, almost
anytime during the school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their independence will be not only in finding their way around but also in knowing where to locate
things and who people are. Now many people argue they re in middle school, and they re older now,
meaning we have to be independent anyway. But even though we are older, that doesn t mean we
always know where things are or we always know what to do. That s like saying a newborn can
survive without caretaker. It s as simple as this; newborns know very little about the world and how it
works as to new students knowing very little about new schools and how they work. So regardless of
maturity or age, people need to be dependent before they can be independent, and the ambassador
program is a good form of that temporary dependence.
Another benefit of the ambassador program would be that it would allow new students to become
comfortable and gain a form of confidence. It s important for new student/staff to be comfortable
because if they weren t think of how difficult it would be for them to focus not only in class but just in
general. And when students become comfortable and confident enough, that s when they will be able
to focus on things like work. But it s often thought that being comfortable shouldn t prioritize over
classes and what matters is getting work done. But what most don t realize is that it s virtually
impossible for people like us to focus on work if we feel out of place in our everyday environment.
But this program would allow

Harriet Tubman and Emily Murphy- Exploring Attributes of...
Every leader had to start somewhere; they all had to have a reason to become a great leader. They have
developed strong attributes to overcome their struggles and challenges. Great leaders like Harriet
Tubman and Emily Murphy, who have had the courage to take action in the world and have had great
confidence to achieve their goals. They are among the people, who through centuries have made a
difference. Who have fought for their rights and surpassed difficult obstacles in their lives to complete
their goals; taking leadership and making a difference in the world as well as overcoming challenges
others could not.

People who are courageous are able to achieve their goals, to stand up and to have their say in what is
right and what is wrong. They might ve made mistakes in life, but if they are willing to reach it, they
will get up and try again, becoming stronger than ever at trying to pursue their goals.
It took courage and bravery to do something that Harriet Tubman did; to be capable of doing
something so extraordinary and something so near impossible. Harriet Tubman had achieved many
things, and had made a huge difference in the lives of others; along with the lives of people today too.
She is a symbol of great courage to every African American. Harriet Tubman was born a slave in
Maryland, but became an admired person; she is well known for being a strong leader, who took great
risks to make the lives of people who were discriminated against better. She faced many challenges
through her life; enduring many injuries, and was recognized for being a person who gave freedom to
her people. Harriet Tubman became a free slave who was determined to come back and to free the

The Importance of Function Over Form in the Classical...
In the 18th century, the concerto was transformed into a viable instrumental genre to both demonstrate
virtuosity as well as a cohesive character that embodied the natural. Though the series of changes from
the Baroque concerto grosso to the Classical concerto were gradual and cannot be attributed to a
single composer, the Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor K. 466 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a
skillful representation of the genre in that era. Of particular interest in this concerto is the treatment of
sonata form in the first movement. When compared to other instrumental genres of that era, there is a
tangible divide between the sonata form of the concerto and that of other instrumental genres such as
the symphony. To understand this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
466, is a synthesis of both sonata form and the Baroque ritornello principle. In this concerto, for
example, the opening orchestra tutti is not a first exposition, because it remains in the tonic throughout
and does not contain the complete compliment of themes. Thus, this tutti serves as preparation for the
soloist, who enters with a novel theme in measure 77. After the completion of the exposition in both D
minor and F major by soloist and orchestra, there is a short transition (mm. 174 192) based upon the
opening material leading into the tonally unstable development. The remainder of the first movement
retains much of this format. As W.H. Hadow states, the form of the soloist s portions are thus
comparable to sonata form, but the form of the whole is still governed by the ritornello. The different
manifestation of sonata form in the genre of the concerto may lead one to believe that the form of the
Classical concerto developed independently of other genres that exercise this form. In fact, K. 466,
with its ritornello principle, bares close resemblance to the da capo aria. As the Classical concerto
functions as a platform for virtuosic display for the soloist, similar to an aria for a vocalist, the form of
the first movement of K. 466 is a result of the stylistic and functional demands of the concerto. In the
18th century, there was an increase in the ideals of contrast, communication, expression and

Madoff Fraud Research Paper
The overall problem is trust. Humans are naturally bias and judgmental and this is where the problem
begins. People tend to trust a person more if they are educated, drive a nice car, and are well groomed,
over a person who looks average. The ponzi scheme, that everyone has learned to hate, used image
and wealth to get over on business corporations, large and small investors, and regular people. Ponzi
schemes uses appearance and finesse to get investors to continually reinvest their money with no
return. Usually the head of the ponzi scheme is someone trust worthy like Madoff. Much of the reason
why Madoff fraud went so long unchecked likely had to do with his respectability and reputation for
being a market genius (511). Once again, trust

A Terrible Glory Custer And The Little Bighorn Analysis
In A Terrible Glory Custer and the Little Bighorn, James Donovan, the author, argues that George
Armstrong Custer was not the main reason for the American army s defeat at Little Bighorn and that
there were other factors that contributed to why they lost. This nonfiction, historical book takes place
before and after the Battle at Little Bighorn. The battle lasted from June 26th, 1876 through June 27th,
1876 and resulted in a victory for the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne warriors against the U.S. army
troops of Custer.
Donovan thoroughly explains each supportive argument to prove his thesis throughout the book. One
of the arguments was the readiness of the U.S Army. The Seventh Cavalry was in inadequate shape.

Not knowing how many Indians and making a terrible estimate was not a very smart choice and with
the army they brought, it was a guaranteed defeat. As stated many times, Custer wasn t the main
reason for the defeat, but his actions and poor decisions still contributed to the lost. One of Custer s
characteristics was that he was stubborn and disliked criticism from others. Donovan argues that this
type of mentality can cause many issues and conflict between other people. He discusses many
decisions Custer made such as when
One strength was that Donovan explained the chapters with much detail. It is essential that when
writing a book that is meant to provide information that it is detailed enough. He did an excellent job
explaining very important details.
Another strength would be that the arguments that he chose supported his thesis statement. The
evidence provided makes it obvious that you cannot blame it on Custer. He chose appropriate
vocabulary
The last strength would be the short section of pictures in the middle of the book. Most of the pictures
were the portraits of the people involved with captions. It s nice to have an idea of what the people in
the book look like when reading a history book or any book. They are also older pictures and it is very
interesting to see pictures from the late eight hundreds. The pictures were of Natives and White men

Black Men And Public Space By Gloria Naylor
Over the course of history, racial identity was the only thing that could set a person apart from one
another. This has been proved not only in history but in society and people have to live with it in
constant terms. While reading the story of
Black Men and Public Space by Brent Staples and Mommy, What Does Nigger
Mean? by Gloria Naylor, it became clear that people of color suffer from this ignorant mindset of
others. It got to a point in which people of color did not know how to react or even look, while
walking down the street, such as Staples.
Other commonalities perceive people of color had faced were attaching the word
Nigger to people of color, or mistaken a Black male as a criminal. All of these examples fall into the
category of ignorance and racist stereotype.
Something like this should not be tolerated, because it s implying more ignorance and racism.
Ignorance creates chaos, and because of a different kind of actions that involved ignorance, chaos
emerge from each of the actions.
Three major themes that surround the experience of Staples and Naylor are racist stereotypes, ignorant
behavior, and inequality of culture.
Staple s states the way racial identity affected his life, from being seeing as a threating to being
confused for a criminal. Unfortunately, this has become a sad/true fact in Staple s life, in his story
Staples implies My first victim was a women white, well dressed probably in her early twenties (188).

When the frequency of the IR(infrared) is the same as the vibrational frequency of a bond or collection

This IR spectrum sets forts wave numbers in the X axis and the transmittance at the Y axis. This

Barbie Doll s Influence On Society
My whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted
to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices, Ruth says. (Inc, n.d) Ruth and
Elliot Handler are the founders of Mattel creation and in 1959 the world was given the Barbie doll.
(Inc, n.d.) The Barbie doll was introduced to a small toy fair costing $3. The Barbie doll was the first
doll to be sold that doesn t look, like a baby but more like a woman. The Barbie doll is an iconic doll
available for anyone, anywhere. After further research, the Barbie doll has influenced body image and
society that there is a right way to look to fit in consists of blonde hair, blue eyes, 5 8 or taller, long
legs, small waist, big boobs and butt. This encourages women to think what they have is not good
enough and they need to change it to look the best or the norm. The influences the Barbie doll has had
on body image are the unrealistic Barbie, and increasing eating disorder percentages. For every girl in
the world there are most likely 3 Barbie dolls in their house hold. Barbie dolls are accessible at almost

Comparing Dan And Mike Blackaby s When Worlds Collide
There are more than 7,000,000,000 people in world that make it impossible for someone to go their
entire life without colliding with another human. Each person has their own unique way of interacting
with others that is dependent on their worldview and fears. In the book, When Worlds Collide, authors
Dan and Mike Blackaby talk about what it means for a Christian to stand up to the world s
philosophies without giving up in their faith. They describe people and their faith in three different
ways: Cave Ins, and Cave Dwellers, which are negative, and Colliders, which are positive. There are
many biblical examples that correspond to each of these types of people. Adam and Eve, Moses, and
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are clear examples from the Bible of what it means to be each
person and prove that being a collider is better than being a cave in or cave dweller. Dan and Mike

President Truman through Assistant Secretary of State George McGhee invited Liaquat to America,
and the ongoing Pakistani Soviet communication ceased. The Pakistani visit to Washington D.C. was
held in much higher regard than Nehru s visit by many newspapers such as the New York Times.
Liaquat explain to President Truman that Pakistan desired American investment, and it would fully
cooperate in the UN plebiscite. Though Liaquat did not publically make requests for military support
during his official visit, there is great evidence that shows he did in private. On May 20, 1950, there

The growing relationship between the United States and Pakistan was displayed when the Truman

The Effect Of Abundance Of Nutrients On Plant Morphology...
All plants rely on nutrients to help them repair damaged cells and grow, each nutrient with its own
benefit. For example, selenium increases plant resilience within harsh climates. Plant morphology and
growth is especially important for crops that are in high demand such as winter wheat grain which has
one of the highest worldwide production rates. The effect of the abundance of nutrients on plant
morphology is further investigated in this study. This study entails winter wheat seeds being placed in
treatments of different concentrations of nutrients and observed and measured after two weeks have
passed. By keeping the environment constant, the effect of each treatment was measured exclusively.
The plants in the treatment without nutrients were noticeable shorter than those in the treatments
which contained nutrients. The results found suggest that the concentration of nutrients is not as
important so long as nutrients are included in the treatment.
Nutrients are an essential resource needed for plants to grow and replenish. They can be divided into
two main subgroups macronutrients and micronutrients. Most nutrients are absorbed through the root
hairs and can be used to repair tissues as well as run important processes such as photosynthesis (Rush
et al. 2016). For example, the nutrient Selenium is known to increase the resilience of plants in harsh
environments. In an experiment completed to see the effects of selenium on wheat growth, it was
noted that the Selenium

Throughout the novel there is a clear division of ideas of the East (intellectual, stagnant, old, saddened
and critical) compared to the ideas of the West (passionate, young, exuberant and wild).
The characters in On the road are often described with the attributes of the places which they are from,
or rather, Sal s idea of that place.
Sal thinks in descriptive and needless to say long, rambling sentences, like the way Sal and Dean and
Carlo talk. The sentences have an abundant quality, cleverly incorporating the excitement and energy
of the characters and events.
Sal describes his friends as earnestly as he can, yet seems to sometimes depict himself self
deprecatingly. He is the observer, often a little behind and at a distance. He s late starting west, and
can t hitchhike and travel as easily as he thought, and ends up having to take the bus all the way to
Chicago. While, the others, he imagines, are already there, having great fun.

Space. The final frontier. There are approximately one hundred billion galaxies in the universe with
many solar systems in each galaxy and many planets within those solar systems (How do we...). The
Milky Way Galaxy is close to 100,000 light years in diameter(Diep) with each light year spanning
5.87849981 x 10^12 miles . In comparison, the earth is only 7,917.5 miles in diameter(Coffey). Within
and on the earth itself, there are still great mysteries, and so it comes as no surprise that a giant area
such as space holds so much mystery. One of the most recent fascinations to astronomers has been
asteroids, meteors, meteorites, and comets. These space rocks are found ... Show more content on

Managing Business Strategy And Growth
MANAGING BUSINESS STRATEGY AND GROWTH
1.0. Introduction
Small business enterprises form special economic component of a given country. As such the
strategies should be put in place to ensure their proliferation and continued generation of profit to the
owners and revenues to the government. Small businesses are also source of employment for most
individuals who are unlucky to be employed by the multibillion corporate and other middle level
companies and organizations. Management strategies are plans that are put in place by either
government or the business owners to ensure that their businesses are being driven towards growth
and enhanced profitability. The strategies put in place are usually well researched and organized in
steps and stages that can easily be followed to ensure the development of the small firm and their
continued existence. This paper will be looking at a small business firm, analyze its intellectual capital
resources and come up with recommendations and proposals that will help to boost the total growth
and profitability of that particular business firm. The paper will look at into the strategic intents of the
business firm, document and designate the intellectual capital resources required by the business
venture in order to grow. The competitive advantage position of the venture will be analyzed
according to the resource based theory and give recommendations that will improve the chances of the
successfulness of the identified small business firm

The House On Mango Street Analysis
Living in the 1960 s was a much different experience apart from living in today s world. People had to
face problems that seemed common to them but rather irrelevant to us. They faced problems like
discrimination, and sexism, which could be argued still prominent, but not as common as back then.
The characters from the book The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, and The Help by
Kathryn Stockett lived in this time and therefore faced these problems which setup the main plots and
themes in these two books. The characters and the books themselves are very similar, and deal with
the main theme of oppression.

of her childhood, motivating her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Esperanza said, She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness
on an elbow [...] Esperanza. I have inherited her name, but I don t want to inherit her place by the
window. (11) Esperanza looks up to her mother and her many good qualities, but she wants no part in
having a spot by the window her whole life. Esperanza wants to be independent, with a job, and a
dream house of her own, but since she is a girl, she is doubted by society. This is a prime example of
sexism in the story and it shows how people treated women unfairly back then and gave them less
potential than which they would have today. This gives the women in Esperanzas society less hope of
becoming what they dreamed of being, and giving them less drive to achieve their goals.
Another character, Sally, from The House on Mango Street is also faced with similar situations like
Esperanza s. Sally is faced with sexism being set to strict, unrightful rules like not being able to talk
on the phone. Sally decided to get married and move in with her husband at a young age because she
liked that he provided for her. Sally made the mistake with moving in with him at a young age and is a
victim of sexism and it set to very strict rules that she is obliged to because of her knowledge that the
women are supposed to follow the mens orders and stay at home and take care of their family. An
example of sexism is when Esperanza says, Except he won t let her talk on the telephone. (102)

White, White And The Construction Of Cultureless ...
Many people from different cultures including white people will describe white American culture as
cultureless. In the article, White Means Never Having to Say You re Ethnic White Youth and the
Construction of Cultureless Identities by Pamela Perry we learn that in two different schools one
which is mainly white and the other which is very diverse both see white as cultureless. Perry shows
us how white students from both school describe the white culture. In the beginning of this article they

There is a historian name David Roediger who believes that the white culture doesn t exist, Perry
mentions in the article that she doesn t agree with David Roediger because white people do have a
culture just that it isn t visible (2001). Renato Rosaldo is an anthropologist who created a theory on
white anticulture Perry mentions, Rosaldo s argument suggests that, if at one time Western Europeans
had to define themselves as cultural to set themselves apart and superior to savages, today, with much
of the world civilized under Western domination, whites must claim a new and higher rung the post
cultural to maintain their privileged status post cultural means the invisibility of a culture meaning that
whites act as if they don t have a culture so they can be above everyone else (2001). Perry s method
was to see the role or just the diversity in schools and how it affects the identities of being white. That
is why Perry picked two different schools one school where its mainly only whites which is Valley
Groves High and the other school which is very diverse and just has many cultures which is Clavey
High School. Perry mentions how she also picked schools that where around the same area. Before
she picked Valley Groves High and Clavey High School she made some research on the schools and
just the areas around the schools. Clavey High School had a percentage of 12 whites in the school.
Valley Groves High had a percentage of 83 whites. Perry made

Doubts Over the Effectiveness of Free Trade Economic...
Paul Krugman s article Is free trade passé? (1987) espouses the argument that free trade economic
theory today is more in doubt than at any time since the 1817 publication of Ricardo s Principles of
Political Economy (p. 131, citing Ricardo, 1821). Ricardo was the first to put forth the theory that
[t]he value of a commodity, or the quantity of any other commodity for which it will exchange,
depends on the relative quantity of labour which is necessary for its production, and not on the greater
or less compensation which is paid for that labour (Ricardo, 1821, p. 1.1). It was his theory that
specialization, even to the point of eliminating certain industries in a country, optimized a country s
trade advantage (p. 31.17). As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Increasing Returns and Imperfect Competition
New models of international trade, stressing increasing returns and imperfect competition, began to
emerge in the 1970s:
These models immediately established the idea that countries specialize and trade, not only because of
underlying differences, but also because increasing returns are an independent force leading to
geographical concentration of production of each good. Indeed, at a logical level, increasing returns
are as fundamental a cause of international trade as comparative advantage. (Krugman P. R., 1987, p.
133).
While this approach supported the existence of trade as opposed to no trade, it began to move away
from free trade as the only answer in international economic theory.
Consequently, while government intervention does not always work, it has become more of the norm
in current international trade. However, as Krugman points out, [e]ven in a world characterized by
increasing returns and imperfect competition, budget constraints still hold. A country cannot protect
everything and subsidize everything (Krugman P. R., 1987, p. 140). Even within a country s internal
economy, a government must determine which industry or industries to favor in allocating resources,
because international trade policy cannot favor every industry. Allocation of resources to one industry
must, of necessity, take away from other industries, and a policy that favors one must by

Marie Antoinette Facts
Marie Antoinette, a young and hated queen, ruled France in the beginning of the French Revolution.
There has been many books, articles, documentaries, and movies that interpret Marie Antoinette s life.
An example of a movie is the 2006 Hollywood drama Marie Antoinette, starring Kirsten Dunst. What
many people wonder is if the movies, books, and documentaries stay along with what really happened
in history. After watching the Hollywood movie and reading books about Marie Antoinette, someone

The Ten Plagues In The Book Of Exodus
Exodus, the second book of the New International Version of the Bible, begins with the end of Joseph
s generation. Exodus I:6, Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died, but the
Israelites were fruitful and multiplied greatly and become exceedingly numerous so that the land was
filled with them. The new king of Egypt, who did not know Joseph, came into power. He declared to
his people that the Israelites had become too plentiful and would eventually join their enemies in war,
the king decided oppressive slave labor would keep their numbers slim. The opposite proved true; the
more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread further escalating the fear of the
Egyptians who worked them ruthlessly in retaliation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to P, God was known to the patriarchs as El Shaddai, God Almighty (Gen 17:1, 35:11,
48:3) and only at Sinai revealed his true name, Yahweh. (JBC) The Ten Plagues occur from a major
battle between Yahweh and the Pharaoh for the service of the Hebrews . Service, in both Hebr and
Eng, means both work and worship. The redactor has skillfully arranged and augmented old traditions
about seven plagues (cf. the seven in Pss 78:43 51; 105:26 36 and the fact that there are only seven
plagues in J) into three triplets, and the climatic tenth plague is outside the series. (JBC) As the
Israelites are initially given consent to leave, the actual route they took is discussed within the
commentary, The best route for the people is not the Way of the Philistines the most direct, but guided
by the fortress at Zilu but rather a route through the wilderness at the Sea of Reeds, a swampy area
around Lake Balah. (JBC) The climactic battle in which the Egyptian army comes after the Israelites
and Moses parted the sea, is conceived by each source differently. According to P, Moses divided the
sea by the rod and Israel walked through on dry land, the waters being a wall to their right and left.
When Israel got to the other side, Moses raised his hand and the walls of water crashed in on the
Egyptian army, wiping them out. According to J, Yahweh the storm god drove back the sea long
enough for Israel to cross in the night and then the sea returned to its wonted flow in the morning.

Literary Devices In Chicago By Carl Sandburg
In Carl Sandburg s poem Chicago he describes the positive and negative attributes of the city such as:
the thriving industry and the hardworking people as the positive and crime and murder as the negative.
Chicago is a short poem , however, the poem conveys many emotions about the city. Even though
Chicago has many negative connotations to its name Carl Sandburg tries to express his love for the
great city. By using repetition, personification, and apostrophe Carl Sandburg explains why he loves
Chicago. One of the major literary devices that Sandburg uses throughout the poem is repetition.

apostrophe to show what someone else from Chicago has seen about the city , but not experienced

activities that go on inside it. In the lines Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so

In the east facing subduction zone, a thrust belt developed as an accretionary prism, and the trench
retreated within the subduction zone (slab rollback) caused the thrust to migrate toward the continental
margin. As a result, Havallah basin formed within an enlarging extensional region to the west of the
trench and thrust belt. So how does slab rollback work? The slab rollback occurs when an older
oceanic crust, which may lose heat by thermal contraction or another reason; thus becomes colder and
denser than other slabs, then subducting at a steep angle. The slab rollback may pull the upper plate, as
the colder slab collapses into the asthenosphere; it can roll back through the mantle. As a result it
causes an extension in the overlying plate (example an enlarged extensional region in the Havallah
basin) and possibly backarc spreading. Havallah sedimentation began during the emplacement of the
allochthon, in an extending region to the west. Low grade rocks formed in the Osgood Mountains
were exposed by tectonic unroofing during extension and unconformably overlain by post tectonic
Pennsylvanian sedimentary rocks. In the hanging wall of the antler subduction system, arc volcanic
that may have been erupted near or within the backarc extension, were extended and subside during or

Examples Of Delusion In Don Quixote
Miguel Cervantes Don Quixote is a masterpiece in many senses of the word: at the time of its
conception, it was hailed as a revolutionary work of literature that defined a genre, in later centuries
regarded as an acerbic social commentary, a slightly misshapen romantic tragedy, and even as a
synthesis of existentialist and post modernist features. At the centre of this Spanish satirical chronicle
is the perplexing character Don Quixote. Don Quixote s personality and perspective is rapidly
established fromsince the beginning of the novel, revealing unabashedly to readers that he is mad. The
source of his madness lies in the extent to which Don Quixote acts on his delusions and projections
unto reality as he saunters through Cervantes Andalusia. Don Quixote s delusions have two primary
functions in the novel: demonstrating the reality and tragedy of Cervantes manifestation of idyllic
themes of love and chivalry, and revealing certain characteristics about narration. A role of Don
Quixote s delusions is to provide a glimpse into a situation where the chivalric code is implemented.

The inconsistencies in the implementation even partly contributed to the outbreak of the Second World
War (xxx, xxx). The European powers mobilized their African subjects with propaganda vilifying the
racial supremacist ideology of the Fascist powers. This set in motion a process in which Fascist
nationalism produced the opposed reality of anti Fascism; and anti Fascism became antiracism; and
antiracism led in due course to an end of colonization (Davidson, 1992). The result was the erasure of
European colonial rule from large swathes of the African continent within a relatively short period of
time (xxx, xxx). Consequently, this led to the development of a decolonized version of the self
determination concept. The decolonization version of self determination was based on the following
three principles: i) all dependent peoples are entitled to freedom; ii) the peoples so entitled are defined
in terms of the existing colonial territories, each of which contains a nation; and iii) once such a
people has come to independence, no residual right of self determination remains with any group
within it or cutting across its frontiers (Emerson 1964). This version of self determination had
numerous implications. The concerned entities often did not find it necessary to demonstrate effective

Slaves In History Research Paper
There were more than 80,000 slaves in ancient greece? There were so many jobs that slaves did that s
why there were so many of them. Without slaves our world would have been a lot different now than it
was. Slaves worked as factory workers, farm workers, and more. They impacted their lives by a lot,
and is a big part of our history.
What Slaves Did
Slaves were servants, factory workers, shopkeepers, mine workers, and many other things that they
would want them to do. They had slaves do their work because they didn t want to do it themselves.
They had to work for their owners, and they didn t have a choice unless they wanted to get wiped and
other stuff. Or they were also starved to death. Some slaves were captured by kidnappers or as
prisoners of war and sold them as slaves, so they didn t have to do the work, It was hard to find out
who kidnapped them because they were really sneaky at it, and a lot of people did it.
How they became slaves
All slaves were born free, but they were captured by kidnappers. That s how they became slaves, or

Robertson, 2001 also suggested that information processing system is not realistic due to the reason

approach is another main topic in human problem solving; it outlines the influence of previous
knowledge on solving a problem. An individual uses past situations and recalls the outcome of that
situation and applies the knowledge to a similar problem they may face now. An example of this
would be a person is getting late for work and parks their car near the office however receives a
parking ticket although the outcome was negative they would use this experience to either leave home
early to find a suitable space or to check next time if they are able to park in the space. Another
example would be driving, a person driving will have drove a number of times however each time
they drive they will encounter many different situations such as pedestrians walking out in the middle
of the road, other vehicles speeding or the change of weather. However these situations will have been
similarly experienced before and the driver will have skills like

racial and demographic background, no fight garners as much urgency as that to close the literacy gap.
Whereas science, social studies, or math may or may not enter the daily discourse of a wealthy family
as it raises its child, reading will unquestionably monopolize a statistically significant portion of child
rearing time. Betty Hart and Todd R Risley outline the devastating scale of this schism in their work

Marx s 1858 Grundrisse divides value into two distinct categories: use and exchange. Use value refers
to the utilitarian value garnered from something, whereas exchange value places monetary value onto
certain objects within a fiat currency system assuming there is no inherent worth in something. The
biggest argument against culturally responsive teaching within literacy comes from a perceived lack of
exchange value. True a capitalistic, patriarchal, white supremacist society does not place substantial, if
any, market value onto texts missing from the constructed Western Canon. If education seeks to truly
empower students, teachers must equip students with skills and knowledge that has market exchange

economic status, the economic ramifications of reading cannot be

Impact Of The Battle Of Bunker Hill In The Revolutionary War
I claim that the Battle of Bunker Hill was one of the largest impacts in Revolutionary War. The Battle
of Bunker Hill gave the American the confidence they needed for this war. This battle showed them
that, while it was still going to be very difficult, they could win this war. The Battle of bunker Hill
showed everyone in Colonial America that regular farmers were able to hold their own against the
renowned British Redcoats. The Continental Army may have lost the battle but they gave the British
Army a large amount of losses. Without this confidence i am sure there would have been a lot less
people volunteering for their local militia. Which could have been fatal to the Continental Army. With
the great number of losses they took during the

Heathcliff Addiction
Within Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights, the theme of love as an addiction is
consistently weaved throughout the pages of the novel. It is seen in many characters, but Heathcliff is
the most clear example of this theme. His entire life and all of the decisions that he makes are based
off of the fact that he is addicted to loving Catherine, and can not get over her. There are many ways in
which readers can see that Heathcliff s love is an addiction, rather than a normal love story.
Addiction generally begins when a person is looking to fill a void within their life. Heathcliff grew up
as an adopted child, and after Mr. Earnshaw died, he had no parental figures in his life. HIndley
treated him poorly throughout his childhood, so Heathcliff

By the time Irma reached Florida, it regained momentum and flooded Miami with over twenty inches of rain (Weather Channel, 2017). This resulted in a state of emergency and complete shutdown of the city. Also, Orlando and Walt Disney World experienced some aggressive winds and thunderstorms. Wildfires engulfing California reached ten billion dollars in repair costs. This estimated cost was shared before the fires roared into Southern California. Solutions to this continued problem could include reserving more funds into the natural disasters budget. The Historical and Colonial Context of Brian Friel s Translations Regarded by many as Brian Friel s theatrical masterpiece, Seamus Deane described Translations as a sequence of events in history which are transformed by his writing into a parable of events in the present day (Introduction 22). The play was first produced in Derry in 1980. It was the first production by Field Day, a cultural arts group founded by Friel and the actor Stephen Rea, and associated with Deane, Seamus Heaney and Tom Paulin. As Deane asserts, the play is in many respects an intelligent and enlightening metaphor for the situation in Northern Ireland. Insightful Guides When you were younger, did you ever get separated from your parent and not know what to do or whom to go to for assistance, and because you didn t know what to do you just wandered aimlessly around? I know I have, and that s what a lot of people who are lost like that do. In fact, that happens a lot here with new students. Yes, there are the peer helpers but that only gives the new student one guide for one day. And that guide doesn t even show them their classes, they take them to the classes they have and then the new student, the very next day, is on their own to find their own way. Their independence will be not only in finding their way around but also in knowing where to locate things and who people are. Now many people argue they re in middle school, and they re older now, meaning we have to be independent anyway. But even though we are older, that doesn t mean we always know where things are or we always know what to do. That s like saying a newborn can survive without caretaker. It s as simple as this; newborns know very little about the world and how it works as to new students knowing very little about new schools and how they work. So regardless of maturity or age, people need to be dependent before they can be independent, and the ambassador program is a good form of that temporary dependence. Another benefit of the ambassador program would be that it would allow new students to become comfortable and gain a form of confidence. It s important for new student/staff to be comfortable because if they weren t think of how difficult it would be for them to focus not only in class but just in general. And when students become comfortable and confident enough, that s when they will be able to focus on things like work. But it s often thought that being comfortable shouldn t prioritize over classes and what matters is getting work done. But what most don t realize is that it s virtually impossible for people like us to focus on work if we feel out of place in our everyday environment. But this program would allow ... • 6. The Importance of Function Over Form in the Classical... In the 18th century, the concerto was transformed into a viable instrumental genre to both demonstrate virtuosity as well as a cohesive character that embodied the natural. Though the series of changes from the Baroque concerto grosso to the Classical concerto were gradual and cannot be attributed to a single composer, the Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor K. 466 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a skillful representation of the genre in that era. Of particular interest in this concerto is the treatment of sonata form in the first movement. When compared to other instrumental genres of that era, there is a tangible divide between the sonata form of the concerto and that of other instrumental genres such as the symphony. To understand this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 466, is a synthesis of both sonata form and the Baroque ritornello principle. In this concerto, for example, the opening orchestra tutti is not a first exposition, because it remains in the tonic throughout and does not contain the complete compliment of themes. Thus, this tutti serves as preparation for the soloist, who enters with a novel theme in measure 77. After the completion of the exposition in both D minor and F major by soloist and orchestra, there is a short transition (mm. 174 192) based upon the opening material leading into the tonally unstable development. The remainder of the first movement retains much of this format. As W.H. Hadow states, the form of the soloist s portions are thus comparable to sonata form, but the form of the whole is still governed by the ritornello. The different manifestation of sonata form in the genre of the concerto may lead one to believe that the form of the Classical concerto developed independently of other genres that exercise this form. In fact, K. 466, with its ritornello principle, bares close resemblance to the da capo aria. As the Classical concerto functions as a platform for virtuosic display for the soloist, similar to an aria for a vocalist, the form of the first movement of K. 466 is a result of the stylistic and functional demands of the concerto. This has been proved not only in history but in society and people have to live with it in constant terms. While reading the story of Black Men and Public Space by Brent Staples and Mommy, What Does Nigger Mean? by Gloria Naylor, it became clear that people of color suffer from this ignorant mindset of others. It got to a point in which people of color did not know how to react or even look, while walking down the street, such as Staples. Other commonalities perceive people of color had faced were attaching the word Nigger to people of color, or mistaken a Black male as a criminal. All of these examples fall into the category of ignorance and racist stereotype. Something like this should not be tolerated, because it s implying more ignorance and racism. Ignorance creates chaos, and because of a different kind of actions that involved ignorance, chaos emerge from each of the actions. Three major themes that surround the experience of Staples and Naylor are racist stereotypes, ignorant behavior, and inequality of culture. • 20. The Effect Of Abundance Of Nutrients On Plant Morphology... All plants rely on nutrients to help them repair damaged cells and grow, each nutrient with its own benefit. For example, selenium increases plant resilience within harsh climates. Plant morphology and growth is especially important for crops that are in high demand such as winter wheat grain which has one of the highest worldwide production rates. The effect of the abundance of nutrients on plant morphology is further investigated in this study. This study entails winter wheat seeds being placed in treatments of different concentrations of nutrients and observed and measured after two weeks have passed. By keeping the environment constant, the effect of each treatment was measured exclusively. The plants in the treatment without nutrients were noticeable shorter than those in the treatments which contained nutrients. The results found suggest that the concentration of nutrients is not as important so long as nutrients are included in the treatment. Nutrients are an essential resource needed for plants to grow and replenish. They can be divided into two main subgroups macronutrients and micronutrients. Most nutrients are absorbed through the root hairs and can be used to repair tissues as well as run important processes such as photosynthesis (Rush et al. 2016). This is a prime example of sexism in the story and it shows how people treated women unfairly back then and gave them less potential than which they would have today. This gives the women in Esperanzas society less hope of becoming what they dreamed of being, and giving them less drive to achieve their goals. Another character, Sally, from The House on Mango Street is also faced with similar situations like Esperanza s. Sally is faced with sexism being set to strict, unrightful rules like not being able to talk on the phone. Sally decided to get married and move in with her husband at a young age because she liked that he provided for her. Sally made the mistake with moving in with him at a young age and is a victim of sexism and it set to very strict rules that she is obliged to because of her knowledge that the women are supposed to follow the mens orders and stay at home and take care of their family. An example of sexism is when Esperanza says, Except he won t let her talk on the telephone. (102) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Renato Rosaldo is an anthropologist who created a theory on white anticulture Perry mentions, Rosaldo s argument suggests that, if at one time Western Europeans had to define themselves as cultural to set themselves apart and superior to savages, today, with much of the world civilized under Western domination, whites must claim a new and higher rung the post cultural to maintain their privileged status post cultural means the invisibility of a culture meaning that whites act as if they don t have a culture so they can be above everyone else (2001). Perry s method was to see the role or just the diversity in schools and how it affects the identities of being white. That is why Perry picked two different schools one school where its mainly only whites which is Valley Groves High and the other school which is very diverse and just has many cultures which is Clavey High School. Perry mentions how she also picked schools that where around the same area. (1987) espouses the argument that free trade economic theory today is more in doubt than at any time since the 1817 publication of Ricardo s Principles of Political Economy (p. 131, citing Ricardo, 1821). Ricardo was the first to put forth the theory that [t]he value of a commodity, or the quantity of any other commodity for which it will exchange, depends on the relative quantity of labour which is necessary for its production, and not on the greater or less compensation which is paid for that labour (Ricardo, 1821, p. 1.1). It was his theory that specialization, even to the point of eliminating certain industries in a country, optimized a country s trade advantage (p. 31.17). As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Increasing Returns and Imperfect Competition New models of international trade, stressing increasing returns and imperfect competition, began to emerge in the 1970s: These models immediately established the idea that countries specialize and trade, not only because of underlying differences, but also because increasing returns are an independent force leading to geographical concentration of production of each good. Indeed, at a logical level, increasing returns are as fundamental a cause of international trade as comparative advantage. (Krugman P. R., 1987, p. 133). While this approach supported the existence of trade as opposed to no trade, it began to move away from free trade as the only answer in international economic theory. Consequently, while government intervention does not always work, it has become more of the norm in current international trade. However, as Krugman points out, [e]ven in a world characterized by increasing returns and imperfect competition, budget constraints still hold. A country cannot protect everything and subsidize everything (Krugman P. R., 1987, p. 140). The redactor has skillfully arranged and augmented old traditions about seven plagues (cf. the seven in Pss 78:43 51; 105:26 36 and the fact that there are only seven plagues in J) into three triplets, and the climatic tenth plague is outside the series. (JBC) As the Israelites are initially given consent to leave, the actual route they took is discussed within the commentary, The best route for the people is not the Way of the Philistines the most direct, but guided by the fortress at Zilu but rather a route through the wilderness at the Sea of Reeds, a swampy area around Lake Balah. (JBC) The climactic battle in which the Egyptian army comes after the Israelites and Moses parted the sea, is conceived by each source differently. According to P, Moses divided the sea by the rod and Israel walked through on dry land, the waters being a wall to their right and left. When Israel got to the other side, Moses raised his hand and the walls of water crashed in on the Egyptian army, wiping them out. In the east facing subduction zone, a thrust belt developed as an accretionary prism, and the trench retreated within the subduction zone (slab rollback) caused the thrust to migrate toward the continental margin. As a result, Havallah basin formed within an enlarging extensional region to the west of the trench and thrust belt. So how does slab rollback work? The slab rollback occurs when an older oceanic crust, which may lose heat by thermal contraction or another reason; thus becomes colder and denser than other slabs, then subducting at a steep angle. The slab rollback may pull the upper plate, as the colder slab collapses into the asthenosphere; it can roll back through the mantle. As a result it causes an extension in the overlying plate (example an enlarged extensional region in the Havallah basin) and possibly backarc spreading. Havallah sedimentation began during the emplacement of the allochthon, in an extending region to the west. Low grade rocks formed in the Osgood Mountains were exposed by tectonic unroofing during extension and unconformably overlain by post tectonic Pennsylvanian sedimentary rocks. Examples Of Delusion In Don Quixote Miguel Cervantes Don Quixote is a masterpiece in many senses of the word: at the time of its conception, it was hailed as a revolutionary work of literature that defined a genre, in later centuries regarded as an acerbic social commentary, a slightly misshapen romantic tragedy, and even as a synthesis of existentialist and post modernist features. At the centre of this Spanish satirical chronicle is the perplexing character Don Quixote. Don Quixote s personality and perspective is rapidly established fromsince the beginning of the novel, revealing unabashedly to readers that he is mad. The source of his madness lies in the extent to which Don Quixote acts on his delusions and projections unto reality as he saunters through Cervantes Andalusia. Don Quixote s delusions have two primary functions in the novel: demonstrating the reality and tragedy of Cervantes manifestation of idyllic themes of love and chivalry, and revealing certain characteristics about narration. The result was the erasure of European colonial rule from large swathes of the African continent within a relatively short period of time (xxx, xxx). Consequently, this led to the development of a decolonized version of the self determination concept. The decolonization version of self determination was based on the following three principles: i) all dependent peoples are entitled to freedom; ii) the peoples so entitled are defined in terms of the existing colonial territories, each of which contains a nation; and iii) once such a people has come to independence, no residual right of self determination remains with any group within it or cutting across its frontiers (Emerson 1964). True a capitalistic, patriarchal, white supremacist society does not place substantial, if any, market value onto texts missing from the constructed Western Canon. If education seeks to truly empower students, teachers must equip students with skills and knowledge that has market exchange value. However, I argue that because culturally responsive texts are a more effective way to build reading capacity, the loss of market exchange value is dwarfed by the augmented use value that comes from being a strong, analytical reader.
