Essay On Australian Flag
Let go of mummy s skirt Australia! It s time to move forward as a nation. The current Australian flag
does not distinctively represent Australia s national identity and must be changed. First of all, the flag
does not acknowledge prior ownership of the land, nor does it demonstrate the ability to fully reflect
the identity of ordinary Australians. Furthermore, changing the flag will not alter the national pride
within Australians as they fought for the country, not for the flag.
It is well known in Australian history that the Aboriginal people were first inhabitants of Australia
before Captain Arthur Phillip and the first fleet. Clearly indicating that aspects of the Indigenous
culture should be included in the Australia flag to acknowledge their prior ownership of the land.
However, Australian and New Zealand are the only two major independent Commonwealth countries
which retain British Ensigns as their national flags. The flag only acknowledges Australia s historical
links with the United Kingdom, unit of the six states and territories and geographical location.
Changing the flag will allow Australians to acknowledge the Aboriginal s prior ownership of the land
and even promote reconciliation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Ausflag.com, there is pictorial evidence which proves that the red ensign was the flag
which members of the Armed Services in Australia related to as Australia s de facto national flag
during both the World Wars. Meaning, that the blue ensign on our current national flag wasn t exactly

courageous souls which battled for the country. Instead, the heroic servicemen should be recognised

The Essay Analysis of Barbie Doll
The Devastation of Social Pressure
One would think that growing up would be a fun, not a worry in the world, happy experience. Yes,
that is the way it should be, but that s not always the case, especially for women. As girls season into
women they realize they not only have to face the fact that they re in a patriarchal society, but also the
influences and pressure they face in the social aspect of things, such as their looks and body image.
There is so much competition amongst girls, especially when transitioning into a woman and through
most of their adulthood. So instead of being able to enjoy life and absorbing the true quality of it, we
are side tracked with superficial, stereotypical, shallow thoughts and images of how we think ... Show

A Physics Special on
Mass Energy Equivalence
Article By: Hugh Corley
History
Born in Germany in 1879, Albert Einstein was theoretical physicist. After graduating high school, he
began working in a Swiss patent office in 1903. 1905 was like any other year in the patent office. That
is, until September 27, when Albert Einstein finished a paper that would revolutionize physics.
Titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? it was the final paper in a series
of four he submitted that year to the German physics journal, Annalen der Physik. The first three
papers explained the photoelectric effect, gave experimental proof of the atoms, and introduced the
theory of special relativity. In the fourth paper however, Einstein explained the idea of mass energy
equivalence, using the now famous equation E=mc2. Although the idea of mass energy equivalence
existed before Einstein, it was never realized and systematically consolidated to a single equation. iii
Explanation
Figure 1: The Rest Mass Energy Equation.ii
This equation states that that the energy of the system (E) is equivalent to the mass of the system (m)
times the speed of light squared. In short, mass and energy are separate quantities that are closely
related. So close, in fact, that they are physically equivalent to each other. An increase in energy yields
a proportional increase in inertial mass. However it is important to note that the matter remains
unchanged. Another

Why Did Kitty Genovese s Neighbors Fail For Take Action...
On March 13, 1964, a woman named Kitty Genovese was stabbed repeatedly while several neighbors
were vaguely aware of the unfolding events occurring outside. The lack of action on the neighbors
part led to Genovese dying shortly after. Why did Kitty Genovese s neighbors fail to take action
quickly?
The psychologists John Darley and Bibb Latané (1968) were interested in the Genovese incident and
sought to find the answer to this psychological phenomenon. In their experiment, Darley and Latané
hypothesized that the higher number of bystanders would decrease helping behavior and vice versa.
The two manipulated the number of confederates during each trial and recorded the time it took for the
participants to report the simulated seizure. Their results confirmed that if were more confederates,
each participant would feel less pressured to help, leading to the discovery of the bystander effect.
The bystander effect is defined as the higher the number of people who notice an emergency, the less
of a chance that those bystanders will help the victim (as cited in Aronson, Wilson, Akert, Sommers,
2015). The importance of the bystander effect is unparalleled because it determines whether humans
will still help in a situation when there are other people available. Bystanders can deal with situations
ranging from the mundane to the dire, but what matters is the number of those who take action.
Inspired by the Genovese case, my partner and I wanted to see if the Tufts community, which

Unique Jargon Of Our Chosen Profession. What Was To Follow
unique jargon of our chosen profession. What was to follow was an application of that which we had
just survived.
The fourth quarter at Keystone was devoted to a number of separate pursuits. The first order of
business was the final course of the year, an eclectic undertaking known as Clinical Medicine. The
second item on the agenda was preparation for Part I of the National Boards.
Clinical Medicine was an overture of what was to follow for the next two years. It was an introduction
to the various clinical clerkships, as well as the one and only course in medical school that concerned
itself with such skills as taking a medical history, examining a patient, and applying the knowledge

Interestingly, Keystone was one of the medical colleges that minimized the value of the National
Boards. In fact, professors in virtually every course mentioned there would be certain material on the

obvious disregard for the National Boards, passing Parts I and II of the exam was still considered a
prerequisite for graduation from Keystone.
To the trained observer, there are certain signs on a medical school campus that can be used to tell the
time of year. For example, the appearance of frantic students who smell like cadavers indicates the
season is fall. A truly astute observer can even tell if it is early, mid, or late fall by how frantic the
student seems and how powerfully the essence of cadaver fills the air.
In the same manner, the trained observer knows it is spring by the sudden blossoming of a new class
of second year medical students, who bedecked in the short white coats that are the trademark of the
upper year medical student, can be seen trying to figure out how to open their new black medical bags.
In a sense, wearing our new white coats for the first time, even if it was only to make sure Seymour
and Ira got the sizes right, was more awkward than any of our previous experiences in medical school.
So too was filling up our black bags with the new medical

The Cuban Descent
Cultural competence is a set of behaviors, attitudes, and policies, among professionals enabling them
to work competently in cross cultural events. It is the ability to provide care to patients with diverse
beliefs, behaviors, and values. This also involves meeting a patient s cultural, language, and social
needs. Health care related disparities, changing demographics and globalization make it important that
nurses are culturally competent in the workplace. To do this, nurses must be able to engage in cultural
self assessment, value diversity, and be culturally aware. Nurses must also understand and effectively
respond to cultural differences. As a culturally competent nurse, you will have a more effective
interaction with patients and families.
If a patient of Cuban descent is assigned, specific nursing considerations are needed such as
maintaining eye contact, using body language to help explain any teachings, making the family feel as
involved as possible, and keep in mind that the family s opinion is considered very important. One
characteristic of the Cuban culture that must be considered when providing culturally congruent care
is eye contact, body language, and talking in close proximity is very important when communicating.
A second characteristic is family is very important, the family s opinion is highly regarded. A third
characteristic is the females of the household are the caretakers, therefore, any information about a

SWOT Analysis of the Balanced Scorecard in the UK Banking...
In the last two decades of the 20th century, the UK banking industry experienced huge change because
of three factors: deregulation, new technology and increasing competition (Gardener et al, 1999, cited
in Hailey et al, 2005). Some banks such as NatWest, Halifax and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), have
successfully survived from the impact of the new century. Just as the head of employee at RBS
indicates, the most significant part of their success is the use of the Balanced Scorecard in the
performance of employees.
The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a strategic planning and management system that is used widely in
different organizations all over the world. The concept was originated by Robert Kaplan and David

Figure 1: The performance management cycle at NatWest (Armstrong, 2003)
NatWest modified the framework of BSC by measuring performance through four dimensions:
financial results, customer service, and internal processes and people management. In a way, the
Balance Scorecard method has been extended to the measurement of individual performance, thus, it
has integrated with organizational measures (Armstrong, 2003). Figure 1 show the performance

structure which seems messy but actually symmetrical and rigorous, rich imaginaries and signs which

Apart from the common features of the Stream of Conciousness novels, this work also shows its

war especially the women; it mirrors the Woolf s thinking and dissatisfaction to the reality world as
well as her concern about women s rights. Apart from the value of literature, it also produced

Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was disorganized

In the world of military matters, the United States is on the forefront of military technology, tactics,

the U.S. Navy specifically, there have been many upgrades and changes, mainly due to the need for
upgrades within the many different areas of the fleet. With the newly designed Zumwalt class
currently being built by General Dynamics by Bath Iron Works, the Navy has done just that. The
Zumwalt Class Destroyers received their naming after the former US Navy Chief of Naval Operations,
Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt Jr, who served in the position from 1970 1974. Two of the ships are
currently being built and one, the USS Zumwalt DDG 1000, already beginning its sea trials. The
original plan was to build thirty two of these priced vessels back when the planning originally stated,

Informative Essay On The Movie Bully
Description of Documentary: When children are pushed to commit foolish activities or suicide
because of bullies, one can tell there is something wrong with the way situations are being handled in
our society. The documentary, Bully, presents countless examples of the effects of bullying and how
poorly circumstances are managed. Through instances resulting in juvenile detention or taking one s
own life, the documentary displays various ways kids deal with torment. As we follow the lives of five
different youths suffering at the hands of their peers, we see just how much these kids go through with
little to no support.
The first family we meet has recently lost their son, Tyler, to suicide at the age of 17. Tyler s dad
recounts the way Tyler transformed from being a bubbly child to a loner. Tyler s dad discusses how he
knew that Tyler was getting shoved into lockers and being told to hang himself, and that he
understands why Tyler took his own life. Tyler s mom then shows us Tyler s old room where he
committed suicide, how his younger brother, Troy, found him, and how they changed the room into an
office to work on their anti bullying stuff. Tyler s parents are both extremely understanding and want
to celebrate Tyler s life by helping others experiencing mistreatment. Unfortunately, the school would
not take any responsibility for what happened, dismissing all accusation, and left all bullying
unpunished. Even at a town meeting, no representative from the school came to hear

Compare And Contrast Renaissance Music And Medieval Music
The Medieval period began in 500 A.D. and ended in 1450 A.D. During this time in particular, the
Catholic Church had significant influence on how music was used and created. Sacred music, for
example, was most prevalent because of this. Due to the religious nature of this period, music in the
church had to adhere to very specific regulations, some of which included prayers such as plainchants
or Gregorian chants. A single melody without harmony, or one musical part sung together in unison, is
called a Monophonic melody, which was sung primarily by monks. Some time later, around 900 A.D.,
the using of two melodic lines was permitted by the church, this music was called organum. A low,
continuous note called a drone, was sung at the same time as the main melody. The two melodies were
often moving in contrasting motion to each other. By the Late Medieval period, 1100 A.D., the music
of the church had shifted from monophonic to more polyphonic, often two or more varying parts. The
Renaissance period, from 1450 A.D. to 1600 A.D., comprised of two main types of music, sacred and
secular. In comparison with the Medieval period, where music was usually reserved for church
purposes, the Renaissance period allowed music to expand beyond the church into upper aristocratic
society. Sacred music included motets and mass, while secular included madrigals, instrumental and
dance music. Motets initially came about during the late Medieval period, but grew sizably during the

how nutrients and food can significantly impact the body and a desire to share and help individuals
reach their health and wellness goals. Additionally, this program will provide me with the opportunity
to step foot into a career focused on preventative health. One of my passions in life has consistently
been about food, nutrition and wellness. As a small child, I was inspired by my mother and her
journey back to school to become a nutritionist. Consistently throughout my childhood, I was guided
towards healthy food with nutritional quality and learned about holistic health and how these things
can directly impact one s quality of life. Once I entered college, my love and passion for cooking and
food became apparent and I began to learn how to cook nutritiously and for substance. My knowledge
base grew as I began to seek out online sources of information from nutritionists and dietitians alike. I
have learned that there is not one thing that is a cure all when it comes to an individual s health, but

Socrates And Plato s Views On The Society
Socrates had different views from the Athenians. He believed that democracy wouldn t work in their
society, nor in any society. He doesn t believe that the people are capable of governing themselves.
Socrates and Plato believed that the common man was too stupid, to say the least, to govern
him/herself and to have a say in society. Socrates was in pursuit or truth his entire life. In his eyes,
how could he let someone have the capabilities to make their own decisions with the potential for an
error to occur. He was for a philosopher kings because they could at least imagine what absolute truth
looked like and hopefully bring it to the people. It s not that Socrates thought everyone was idiotic, he
just didn t want anything to stop him on his pursuit of finding truth. He already was upset enough that
the world was constanly changing. He didn t want another human error to change his perception and
rationality to one thing that he almost found the truth in. He favored a shepherd becasue that person
was there to watch over and protect the sheep. He could make decisions for the sheep and guide the
sheep to stay out of trouble, find food and shelter, and to spend their days meandering through the
meadows. This is a great analogy, but then again the shepherd why would the shepherd being tending

Favelas are where approximately 11.4 of the 190 million of Brazils population resides. Favelas are
typically built when squatters (a person who unlawfully occupies an uninhabited building or unused
land) occupy vacant land at the edge of a city and construct shacks of salvaged or stolen materials.
These areas are known to be areas with crime and extreme poverty; the people who live there are
socially outcasted and are usually ignored by upper class citizens. These areas are home to the people
who cannot afford to live in cities like Rio de Jainero or São Paolo, because of the raising housing
costs. The heavily populated areas lack infrastructure, so citizens are forced to improvise plumbing
and electricity. It is easy to provide these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Interview On A Pathological Liar Essay
On November 16, 1967 Kristen Heather Strickland was born in Massachusetts. Her mother was a
substitute teacher and her father was an electronics engineer. Growing up in Fall River, where Lizzie
Borden who is believed to have killed her parents was born, Kristen would often tell people that she
and Lizzie were related. She seemed to find great excitement with the possibility (Phelps, 2014). She
grew into an attractive teenage girl who seemed to be sophisticated and the envy of others. The first
issue was noted when she was older by her schoolmates. Kristen was turning into a pathological liar.
One of her friends stated she showed up to school wearing a shirt that another friend had reported
missing. She adamantly denied that it was the same shirt (Montaldo, 2015). A pathological liar is
defined as someone who tells small lies without a reason on an ongoing basis that usually occurs for
years, and even a lifetime (Dike, 2008). We all have our own developmental pathway, starting early in
life, which is made up of risk factors and experiences that makes us who we are. Risk factors which
can lead to criminal behavior include alcohol or drug abuse, poverty, failing school, physical and
emotional abuse, parental styles, peer rejection, inadequate preschool experiences, siblings, parental
psychopathology, inadequate after school care, association with antisocial peers, minimal parental
monitoring, lack of attachment, and lack of empathy (Bartol Bartol, 2014).

Project Head Start
Project Head Start is a federal program that was created in 1964 and officially funded and began in
1965. It was created to combat poverty which was believed to stem from the education system. The
thought process was that those who were economically disadvantaged would continue to be
disadvantaged and this program would fix it. Throughout the years amendments were made to be
more inclusive and effective. Changes include the addition of medical care, community development,
and the inclusion of the disabled. In addition to the amendments came lack of funding because of
many challenges that the program faced. Many of these problems were lack of teachers, male

History And Emergence Of Hip Hop
History and emergence of Hip Hop in Korea
Korea is a vibrant environment for contemporary music, and produces a wide array of styles. The
country has produced internationally prominent composers and singers including Psy in which one of
his music became a global phenomenon. Moreover, a new genre called Kpop also emerged during the
1990 s up to present. Today, The melodies of Korean music are quite similar to the mood of early 2000
s rhythm and blues music from America. Reflections of African American music are quite prominent
due to Korea s western influence and the United State s heavy influence of Negro spirituals deriving in
the 1800s during slavery of which you still see in music today. Story telling is very important in every
culture and as Korea has had it s own hardships it is easy to see how musicians took their own
hardships applied them to influences from African Americans.
South Korea is one of the many countries that has experienced a rise in the popularity of hip hop in the
last several years. The origins of hip hop in South Korea date back to the early 1990s when was still
considered an underground phenomenon. About twenty years later, hip hop has become just as popular
as K Pop.
Hip hop in American itself thrived through the frustration of the government and it s treatment of
African Americans. It was a way to speak your mind freely. It was seen as a sociopolitical to certain
events such as the 90s riots in Los Angeles which was a response to the

A Comparative Analysis Of Fasting, Feasting By Anita Desai
Though the novel ends in facilely compromising way of Sita s returning with her husband and
children to the dull and disgusting Bombay life, she doesn t make any attempt to liberate herself from
the shell of psychic paralysis and resigns herself passively to the inanimate and insipid life of Bombay
which in reality is a limbo of death in life.
In Fasting, Feasting, Anita Desai uses light touch, simple language, uncomplicated structure, but at the
same time addresses some very big issues and makes a point. In this novel Uma and Arun are children
of Mamapapa, the apparently indivisible common identity that parents present. These parents,
however, are not at all alike. Mama is protective, perhaps selfish, and not a little indolent. Papa is a
parsimonious control freak who locks away the telephone because someone might use it. But they are
at least together. Their relationship has survived, despite the long wait for a son, and their
disappointment at his disability. Fasting, Feasting presents apparent opposites, two contrasting, if
imbalanced scenarios, India and the USA. It offers two deformed observers, Uma and Arun. It unpicks
two contrasting cultures and finds that women are slaves in both. The opposites are thus ultimately
similar, hardly opposed.
Fasting, Feasting contrasts American and Indian culture, and male and ... Show more content on

In beautifully detailed prose Desai draws the foods and textures of an Indian small town and of an
American suburb. In both, she suggests, family life is a complex mixture of generosity and meanness,
license and restriction: The novel s subtle revelation is in the unlikely similarities. In one dark
moment, Arun recognizes in the Pattons bulimic daughter a version of his own unhappy sister Uma,
and the shock provokes a reflection on these two frustrated women: But what is plenty? What is not?
Can one tell the difference? Desai s novel is a moving, eloquent exploration of that

King Batharious The King
Once in the far away mystical land of Boven Athar, there lived a wise and compassionate king, his
caring and honest queen, and his two wonderful children. This tale is not about them however, but
rather the king s champion Batharious the brave, who at a young age was determined to become the
strongest force of good in all the lands. Batharious was visited by the goddess of everything good
Zelandra, who later blessed him and deemed him her champion, her Champion of Light.
Unfortunately, this blessing was double sided, for this had awoken the ire of Arcygeamos, the twin
sister of Zelandra, and the goddess of all that is dark and evil. She cursed him to never find love and to
be overzealous in his quest to exterminate all evil. This lead to Batharious ... Show more content on

my comrades, lest you alert our foulest of enemies to our presence! urged Batharious, who had

Be still you fools, lest we slip out from the protection of Mathaln s sphere of cloaking and doom the
lot of us to never ending torture at the hands of the Dark Goddess or her vile champion! ordered
Batharious. Mathaln, do you have enough power left to blow the gate off its hinges, or create a portal
inside? inquired Nicolamosas. No, no I don t, I barely have enough energy to maintain this field

Draft And Outline Of David Suzuki s The Pain Of Animals
The Pain of Animals Draft and Outline
The Pain of Animals is an article written by David Suzuki and published in 1989. The writer discusses
that humans are using other species for their benefits and causing them pain by scientific experiments
as well as by pleasure purposes. This results in the extinction of many species and disrupts the
ecosystem. Moreover, David Suzuki s main point throughout this article is to explain and convince
readers that animals have body systems similar to humans and they also feel fear and pain. In addition,
he discusses that it is unethical to cause pain in animals for humans own benefits.
Suzuki s main thesis of this article is a discussion about the similarities between human rights and
animal rights. He also focuses on animals used for research due to their similarities such as their
bodies, responses, and nervous system with humans. In addition, humans use them for pleasure which
cause them fear and pain that is unethical. Suzuki has persuaded readers by connecting his childhood
experience of hunting and fishing as well as moments he realized that it is painful for the animals.
Specifically, the description about the holes in the fish s mouth and the pain and fear from it in the fish
is very touching to the readers.
Moreover, Suzuki made an effective discussion by talking about animal s life after being tested if they
survive. He made readers to think and feel about the pain of animals by his emotional questions, What
gives us the right to exploit other living organisms as we see fit? How do we know that these other
creatures don t feel pain or anguish just as we do? Perhaps there s no problem with fruit flies, but
where do we draw the line? (Suzuki, 1989, p.681). Suzuki s main purpose is to convince the audience
that animals feel pain and it is unethical to make animals suffer from pain for our benefits. Suzuki
suggests that it is not wise to use animals for research as well as for our pleasure to the extent that
results in extinction.
Suzuki mentioned in his article about medical research and experiments of Jane Goodall using
chimpanzees greatly affect the population of chimpanzees. Furthermore, human moves animals from
their homes and lands to zoos for education and

Narrative Is The Root Of Some Fields
Narrative is the root of some fields which includes education, rhetoric, literature, religion, law, history:
culture (Wilson, 1989). It can be seen as a tool to create traditions and symbols as means of
communication and it is a source to understand and strengthen the identity of the organisation (Kroeze
and Keulen, 2013). As a conceptual theme, narrative becomes a self conscious system and a reflexive
field. In other words, the role of narrative in personal lives is to show how it can be utilized effectively
for reflexives practices. In light of this notion, personal reflexive capabilities are a process of exposing
or questioning our ways of doing. It is the method for individual through the mirror that has ability to
take responsibility for their stories and their exploration, and the role of fact in lives. This essay will
focus on how narratives may be reflexively used at different stages, especially history: culture and
education, as a tool to access the frameworks.
In a narrative, the movement from sign to sign has a recognizable social, cultural and historical
significance. Narrative is one of the main elements in history play (Wilson, 1989). It is the mode in
which our culture is transmitted, from fairly stories to political history. Barthes(1987) states that
narrative is international, transhistorical, transcultural and it is simply there like life itself. Narrative
creates the way we see our place in society and the way we perceive is as moulded around us,

  • 2. Essay On Australian Flag Let go of mummy s skirt Australia! It s time to move forward as a nation. The current Australian flag does not distinctively represent Australia s national identity and must be changed. First of all, the flag does not acknowledge prior ownership of the land, nor does it demonstrate the ability to fully reflect the identity of ordinary Australians. Furthermore, changing the flag will not alter the national pride within Australians as they fought for the country, not for the flag. It is well known in Australian history that the Aboriginal people were first inhabitants of Australia before Captain Arthur Phillip and the first fleet. Clearly indicating that aspects of the Indigenous culture should be included in the Australia flag to acknowledge their prior ownership of the land. However, Australian and New Zealand are the only two major independent Commonwealth countries which retain British Ensigns as their national flags. The flag only acknowledges Australia s historical links with the United Kingdom, unit of the six states and territories and geographical location. Changing the flag will allow Australians to acknowledge the Aboriginal s prior ownership of the land and even promote reconciliation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Ausflag.com, there is pictorial evidence which proves that the red ensign was the flag which members of the Armed Services in Australia related to as Australia s de facto national flag during both the World Wars. Meaning, that the blue ensign on our current national flag wasn t exactly fought under . Therefore, just changing the flag will definitely not diminish the spirit of the courageous souls which battled for the country. Yes, that is the way it should be, but that s not always the case, especially for women. As girls season into women they realize they not only have to face the fact that they re in a patriarchal society, but also the influences and pressure they face in the social aspect of things, such as their looks and body image. There is so much competition amongst girls, especially when transitioning into a woman and through most of their adulthood. So instead of being able to enjoy life and absorbing the true quality of it, we are side tracked with superficial, stereotypical, shallow thoughts and images of how we think ... • 4. A Physics Special On Mass Energy Equivalence The Great Lakes Tribune A Physics Special on Mass Energy Equivalence Article By: Hugh Corley History Born in Germany in 1879, Albert Einstein was theoretical physicist. After graduating high school, he began working in a Swiss patent office in 1903. 1905 was like any other year in the patent office. That is, until September 27, when Albert Einstein finished a paper that would revolutionize physics. Titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? it was the final paper in a series of four he submitted that year to the German physics journal, Annalen der Physik. The first three papers explained the photoelectric effect, gave experimental proof of the atoms, and introduced the theory of special relativity. In the fourth paper however, Einstein explained the idea of mass energy equivalence, using the now famous equation E=mc2. Although the idea of mass energy equivalence existed before Einstein, it was never realized and systematically consolidated to a single equation. iii Explanation Figure 1: The Rest Mass Energy Equation.ii This equation states that that the energy of the system (E) is equivalent to the mass of the system (m) times the speed of light squared. In short, mass and energy are separate quantities that are closely related. So close, in fact, that they are physically equivalent to each other. An increase in energy yields a proportional increase in inertial mass. However it is important to note that the matter remains unchanged. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Did Kitty Genovese s Neighbors Fail For Take Action... On March 13, 1964, a woman named Kitty Genovese was stabbed repeatedly while several neighbors were vaguely aware of the unfolding events occurring outside. The lack of action on the neighbors part led to Genovese dying shortly after. Why did Kitty Genovese s neighbors fail to take action quickly? The psychologists John Darley and Bibb Latané (1968) were interested in the Genovese incident and sought to find the answer to this psychological phenomenon. In their experiment, Darley and Latané hypothesized that the higher number of bystanders would decrease helping behavior and vice versa. The two manipulated the number of confederates during each trial and recorded the time it took for the participants to report the simulated seizure. Their results confirmed that if were more confederates, each participant would feel less pressured to help, leading to the discovery of the bystander effect. The bystander effect is defined as the higher the number of people who notice an emergency, the less of a chance that those bystanders will help the victim (as cited in Aronson, Wilson, Akert, Sommers, 2015). The importance of the bystander effect is unparalleled because it determines whether humans will still help in a situation when there are other people available. Bystanders can deal with situations ranging from the mundane to the dire, but what matters is the number of those who take action. Inspired by the Genovese case, my partner and I wanted to see if the Tufts community, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fourth quarter at Keystone was devoted to a number of separate pursuits. The first order of business was the final course of the year, an eclectic undertaking known as Clinical Medicine. The second item on the agenda was preparation for Part I of the National Boards. Clinical Medicine was an overture of what was to follow for the next two years. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interestingly, Keystone was one of the medical colleges that minimized the value of the National Boards. In fact, professors in virtually every course mentioned there would be certain material on the boards they didn t feel was important enough to present in their lectures. In spite of the institution s obvious disregard for the National Boards, passing Parts I and II of the exam was still considered a prerequisite for graduation from Keystone. To the trained observer, there are certain signs on a medical school campus that can be used to tell the time of year. For example, the appearance of frantic students who smell like cadavers indicates the season is fall. A truly astute observer can even tell if it is early, mid, or late fall by how frantic the student seems and how powerfully the essence of cadaver fills the air. In the same manner, the trained observer knows it is spring by the sudden blossoming of a new class of second year medical students, who bedecked in the short white coats that are the trademark of the upper year medical student, can be seen trying to figure out how to open their new black medical bags. It is the ability to provide care to patients with diverse beliefs, behaviors, and values. This also involves meeting a patient s cultural, language, and social needs. Health care related disparities, changing demographics and globalization make it important that nurses are culturally competent in the workplace. To do this, nurses must be able to engage in cultural self assessment, value diversity, and be culturally aware. Nurses must also understand and effectively respond to cultural differences. As a culturally competent nurse, you will have a more effective interaction with patients and families. If a patient of Cuban descent is assigned, specific nursing considerations are needed such as maintaining eye contact, using body language to help explain any teachings, making the family feel as involved as possible, and keep in mind that the family s opinion is considered very important. He created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to protect the revolution within his country and keep the conventional army forces, who remained loyal to the Shah, from rising up against him. He also hoped that the large population of Shi a Muslims in Iraq would support his mission and rise up against their secular leader; this would keep the revolution going strong. Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was disorganized and weak. The Iranian Revolution created disorder in many Iranian military units and Iranian confrontation with the U.S. ensured it would be cut off from its primary weapons supplier. During the year after the fall of the Shah, many areas of Iran were approaching civil war; this frenzy in Iran made the country seem much more vulnerable than it really was, and led Saddam Hussein to feel he had his first genuine opportunity to make Iraq the dominant power in the area and the Arab world (Cordesman Wagner, 1990). Zumwalt Class Survivors Research Paper In the world of military matters, the United States is on the forefront of military technology, tactics, and personnel, especially with the recently commissioned Zumwalt Class Destroyers. Recently within the U.S. Navy specifically, there have been many upgrades and changes, mainly due to the need for upgrades within the many different areas of the fleet. With the newly designed Zumwalt class currently being built by General Dynamics by Bath Iron Works, the Navy has done just that. The Zumwalt Class Destroyers received their naming after the former US Navy Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt Jr, who served in the position from 1970 1974. Two of the ships are currently being built and one, the USS Zumwalt DDG 1000, already beginning its sea trials. The original plan was to build thirty two of these priced vessels back when the planning originally stated, each with a price of $3.3 billion. Subsequently thought, over time price for each ship increase to more than $9 billion, so the program was cut down to only three in 2009. These three ships will be the largest ships ever built. • 15. Informative Essay On The Movie Bully Description of Documentary: When children are pushed to commit foolish activities or suicide because of bullies, one can tell there is something wrong with the way situations are being handled in our society. The documentary, Bully, presents countless examples of the effects of bullying and how poorly circumstances are managed. Through instances resulting in juvenile detention or taking one s own life, the documentary displays various ways kids deal with torment. As we follow the lives of five different youths suffering at the hands of their peers, we see just how much these kids go through with little to no support. The first family we meet has recently lost their son, Tyler, to suicide at the age of 17. Tyler s dad recounts the way Tyler transformed from being a bubbly child to a loner. Tyler s dad discusses how he knew that Tyler was getting shoved into lockers and being told to hang himself, and that he understands why Tyler took his own life. Tyler s mom then shows us Tyler s old room where he committed suicide, how his younger brother, Troy, found him, and how they changed the room into an office to work on their anti bullying stuff. Tyler s parents are both extremely understanding and want to celebrate Tyler s life by helping others experiencing mistreatment. Unfortunately, the school would not take any responsibility for what happened, dismissing all accusation, and left all bullying unpunished. • 16. Compare And Contrast Renaissance Music And Medieval Music The Medieval period began in 500 A.D. and ended in 1450 A.D. During this time in particular, the Catholic Church had significant influence on how music was used and created. Sacred music, for example, was most prevalent because of this. Due to the religious nature of this period, music in the church had to adhere to very specific regulations, some of which included prayers such as plainchants or Gregorian chants. A single melody without harmony, or one musical part sung together in unison, is called a Monophonic melody, which was sung primarily by monks. Some time later, around 900 A.D., the using of two melodic lines was permitted by the church, this music was called organum. A low, continuous note called a drone, was sung at the same time as the main melody. The two melodies were often moving in contrasting motion to each other. By the Late Medieval period, 1100 A.D., the music of the church had shifted from monophonic to more polyphonic, often two or more varying parts. The Renaissance period, from 1450 A.D. to 1600 A.D., comprised of two main types of music, sacred and secular. In comparison with the Medieval period, where music was usually reserved for church purposes, the Renaissance period allowed music to expand beyond the church into upper aristocratic society. Sacred music included motets and mass, while secular included madrigals, instrumental and dance music. Motets initially came about during the late Medieval period, but grew sizably during the Renaissance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He favored a shepherd becasue that person was there to watch over and protect the sheep. • 28. A Comparative Analysis Of Fasting, Feasting By Anita Desai Though the novel ends in facilely compromising way of Sita s returning with her husband and children to the dull and disgusting Bombay life, she doesn t make any attempt to liberate herself from the shell of psychic paralysis and resigns herself passively to the inanimate and insipid life of Bombay which in reality is a limbo of death in life. In Fasting, Feasting, Anita Desai uses light touch, simple language, uncomplicated structure, but at the same time addresses some very big issues and makes a point. In this novel Uma and Arun are children of Mamapapa, the apparently indivisible common identity that parents present. These parents, however, are not at all alike. Mama is protective, perhaps selfish, and not a little indolent. Papa is a parsimonious control freak who locks away the telephone because someone might use it. But they are at least together. Their relationship has survived, despite the long wait for a son, and their disappointment at his disability. Fasting, Feasting presents apparent opposites, two contrasting, if imbalanced scenarios, India and the USA. It offers two deformed observers, Uma and Arun. It unpicks two contrasting cultures and finds that women are slaves in both. The opposites are thus ultimately similar, hardly opposed. • 31. Draft And Outline Of David Suzuki s The Pain Of Animals The Pain of Animals Draft and Outline The Pain of Animals is an article written by David Suzuki and published in 1989. The writer discusses that humans are using other species for their benefits and causing them pain by scientific experiments as well as by pleasure purposes. This results in the extinction of many species and disrupts the ecosystem. Moreover, David Suzuki s main point throughout this article is to explain and convince readers that animals have body systems similar to humans and they also feel fear and pain. In addition, he discusses that it is unethical to cause pain in animals for humans own benefits. Suzuki s main thesis of this article is a discussion about the similarities between human rights and animal rights. He also focuses on animals used for research due to their similarities such as their bodies, responses, and nervous system with humans. In addition, humans use them for pleasure which cause them fear and pain that is unethical. Suzuki has persuaded readers by connecting his childhood experience of hunting and fishing as well as moments he realized that it is painful for the animals. Specifically, the description about the holes in the fish s mouth and the pain and fear from it in the fish is very touching to the readers. Moreover, Suzuki made an effective discussion by talking about animal s life after being tested if they survive. He made readers to think and feel about the pain of animals by his emotional questions, What gives us the right to exploit other living organisms as we see fit? How do we know that these other creatures don t feel pain or anguish just as we do? Perhaps there s no problem with fruit flies, but where do we draw the line? (Suzuki, 1989, p.681). Suzuki s main purpose is to convince the audience that animals feel pain and it is unethical to make animals suffer from pain for our benefits. Suzuki suggests that it is not wise to use animals for research as well as for our pleasure to the extent that results in extinction. Suzuki mentioned in his article about medical research and experiments of Jane Goodall using chimpanzees greatly affect the population of chimpanzees. • 32. Narrative Is The Root Of Some Fields Narrative is the root of some fields which includes education, rhetoric, literature, religion, law, history: culture (Wilson, 1989). It can be seen as a tool to create traditions and symbols as means of communication and it is a source to understand and strengthen the identity of the organisation (Kroeze and Keulen, 2013). As a conceptual theme, narrative becomes a self conscious system and a reflexive field. In other words, the role of narrative in personal lives is to show how it can be utilized effectively for reflexives practices. In light of this notion, personal reflexive capabilities are a process of exposing or questioning our ways of doing. It is the method for individual through the mirror that has ability to take responsibility for their stories and their exploration, and the role of fact in lives. This essay will focus on how narratives may be reflexively used at different stages, especially history: culture and education, as a tool to access the frameworks. In a narrative, the movement from sign to sign has a recognizable social, cultural and historical significance. Narrative is one of the main elements in history play (Wilson, 1989). It is the mode in which our culture is transmitted, from fairly stories to political history.
