What Is The Exploration Of Brazil Essay
Exploration of Brazil
Introduction
Let s take a vacation to Brazil. I will be traveling to Brazil June 20th 24th through the 22nd. I
chose to travel to Brazil, because of the beautiful cities and nature that is located there. Also, I
always wanted to travel to Brazil. I will also be taking my sister Noelle, because she has traveled all
around the world for study abroad, and she will know what to expect. Brazil is located in South
America. Brazil is a good destination to travel all year round, because temperatures almost never
drop below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The climate is always hot and dry or humid and sticky.
Although, the Rainforests get very hot at around 104 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius. We
will need to bring lots of water because of the hot temperatures. The only places that gets cold are
the southern mountainous regions. Sometimes temperatures there in the mountainous are as low as
32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius. We will not need to worry about the cold temperatures
in the southern areas, because we will not be travelling there.
Brazil is also quite big, it takes up almost half of South America, and in comparison to Michigan
Brazil is 34 times bigger. Brazil consists of both plateaus and plains, but has majority plateaus at
60% (ВЁBrazil World Travel GuideВЁ). The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some argue that this is the most popular dish in Brazil. People in Brazil typically make meals
from scratch, because they do not want to spend money on frozen foods. Another fun fact is that
coffee is typically served after every meal in Brazil. Also, breakfast typically consists of tropical
fruits, this is because located in Brazil is a tropical rainforest known as the Amazon. Providing
Brazilians with lots of fruit. Common likes also consists of rice and beans, salads, vegetables and
soups. Food also a lot of time differs by

Love And Nurturing In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
For human beings, decisions are made by how one feels. People who are rejected and disliked can
feel degraded and insignificant. Feeling this way can influence regretful and unjustifiable actions.
This would be why love and nurturing is so important for human beings. As seen in Frankenstein,
the rejection caused the monster to feel miserable and alone. He lashed out causing countless
tragedies and misfortunes for Victor Frankensteinand those around him. If the monster had only
been cared for, this series of unfortunate events could have been prevented.
Think of the monster as a young child. He was just brought to life and he longs for love and care
from his creator. Likewise, young children want love from their parents. Imagine all of those

Andy Warhol Analysis
If I could be any artist from the history of art, I would want to be the female version of Andy
Warhol. Warhol was a talented artist along with other things such as being a well accredited
producer and director. In my opinion, one of Warhol s best works of art is Coca Cola. Although
this painting might be ordinary and simple, I think Warhol s reason for creating this art, along with
most of his other art, is what made Warhol s art so famous and popular. As Warhol stated himself, I
just paint things I always thought were beautiful, things you use every day and never think about (
Andy Warhol). Warhol turned normal, everyday objects like a Coca Cola bottle into a work of art
because he was grateful for the simple things in life due to the... Show more content on

Warhol did not have the easiest time growing up, yet he was still able to create a successful and
memorable life for himself. I think that Warhol and I have a similar outlook on life. I hope that
no matter where my life takes me that I can continue to make the most of the littlest things just
like Warhol did. If I were an artist like Warhol, my art would be centered around my life and
simple objects. Art should be expressive, and what better way to express oneself than to show their
life struggles through art. I would also create art that enhances simply, everyday objects. Sometimes
the things we tend to overlook are the things that have the most beauty. Not everyone finds beauty
in ordinary objects, but that is something that Warhol and I have in common everyday objects can be

Tale Of Two Cities Injustice
A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale Of Two Cities was during the French Revolution. It was a time of disorder and also an
outstanding period. It was the time of fear, of lots of violence, robberies, and blood all over the
streets. It was the time of joy and happiness. It was the time of injustice throughout society. A time
of great change throughout society. The book A Tale Of Two City has majors theme throughout the
book. One major theme is metaphorically resurrected from death and having a second chance at
life. Another major theme throughout the book is how society was injustice and corrupted.
Resurrection from death is coming back to live figuratively. Throughout the book more than one
characters are being resurrected from death. A main person is Dr.Manette. Manette was
imprisoned for eighteen years in the Bastile unjustly. Manette was figuratively dead. Manette spent
his time in prison making shoes. Manette had a second chance at life when he was released from
prison. Manette became a better person and tries to forget about his past. In the book A Tale Of

There was many injustices throughout society. the tax state, the tax for the church, the tax for
the lord, tax local and tax general, were to be here and to be paid there (Dickens 86). Poor people

to all these people. Also it was injustice because Dr.Manette was unjustly put behind the bars of
Bastille. with such humane achievements as sentencing a youth to have his hands cut off, his
tongue torn out with pincers, and his body burned alive, because he had not kneeled down in the
rain to do honour to a dirty procession of monks (Dickens 2). This shows how society is injustice

Essay Psuedopsychology vs the Scientific Method
Humans have inhabited the Earth for thousands of years and it is perceived by many that we are
among the most intellectual species on this planet. Although having lived on this planet for so
long, being able to distinguish fact from fiction has escaped the minds of many. People of today
s society are easily influenced by what is told to them instead of what can be proven. Believing
in something that has no scientific evidence is not only absurd but can be classified simply as
ignorance. Many of the erratic ideas that are believed by many today have originated in a time
where superstition was more popular than science. These beliefs appear to be proven by science,
but in reality are not valid and frequently confused with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All procedure varies from field to field but the steps must be repeatable to predict future results
and this is where psudopsychology and fact clash. Replicating the methods is tricky for those
who are practicing these psychologies because they have to do it a certain way in order for the
beliefs of everyone to remain the same. Horoscopes and Astrology: A man who made the
practice of horoscopes and astrology susceptible to Christians allowed for these beliefs to spread
throughout the world in the 1600 s was William Lilly. During his time he was seen as a great
prophet, and became famous for predicting The Great Fire of London through one of his
hieroglyphic drawings (McCann, 1990). The Great Fire of London happened on September 2,
1666 and it started out as a small fire in the bakeshop of Thomas Forger destroying about 430
acres of land including 13,000 house, 89 churches and many other buildings leaving countless
homeless. This fire occurred 14 years after William Lilly predicted one, and at this time London
has been prone to having fires due to its infrastructure. Most of the houses and other buildings
were made of wood and highly flammable, causing something that started as a house fire to a fire
that engulfed a great majority of London. This hasn t been the only great fire that this city has
witnessed. Along with the fire of 1633 and 1676, the fire of 1666 has increased its caliber of
destruction primarily because of the city s construction

The Importance Of Discontent In Shakespeare s King Lear
Characters are often unsatisfied with their the place they find themselves in society. Discontent
is what drives them to gain ambition in their ability to radically change their situation to one that
is most favorable in their perspective. These changes differ from character to character,
including alterations in their moral conduct, mental capability, or in something as easy as his
way of dress. The ambition to change rests deep within the character s soul, regardless of how
simple their actions may be. Fathoming a false image of oneself not only damages the individual,
but creates trouble for the people around them, such as family and loved ones. An individual s set
of morals is proven when faced with adversity. Edmund in Shakespeare s King Lear was labeled as
the illegitimate child of Gloucester. A believer in the laws on nature rather than the norms and
regulations of society, the title of being the illegitimate child aggravated Edmund immensely; there
wasn t one single difference between him and his legitimate brother, Edgar: [...] why bastard?
/ When my dimensions are as well compact, / My mind as generous and my shape as true [...] (I ii 6
7). In frustration, Edmund expressed his loyalty to nature and her laws, where all children were
treated equally by their families, and in turn questioned the authority of manmade, royal laws that
discriminated against him unjustly. Edmund wanted what he couldn t have by conventional terms,
his father s wealth that would

Direct to Consumer Advertising
There are only two countries that allow advertising of prescription drugs to consumers; the United
States and New Zealand. Direct to consumer advertising (DTCA) is what they call the prescription
drugs advertisements that are made specifically for the consumer. Pharmaceutical companies
survival depends upon a gullible public buying what they are selling, whether you need it or not.
Prescription drug advertising is in a different category than toothpaste advertising. Because the
consumer s health is at stake, there are different rules and regulations involved. Pharmaceutical
companies often do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumers will be more likely to initiate a conversation with their physician after seeing an
advertisement on television, or in a magazine. In a paper titled An Insider s Perspective: Defense of
the Pharmaceutical Industry s Marketing Practices, author Kanika Johar (2013) writes, In my
experience, the goal of DTCA is to increase market share for the new drug by bringing awareness
to a particular disease that the drug treats (p.10). The first part of that sentence is remarkably
candid. As an industry insider, Johar admits that increasing market share is the goal of DTCA.
While proponents cite education and awareness as reasons to continue DTCA, research consistently
shows that consumers are not educated in any meaningful way about drugs and their side effects in
a 2 minute commercial or a tiny 4 point font, need a degree in biotechnology to understand, print
advertisement (Frosch et al, 2010; Arnold Oakley, 2013).
One of the biggest problems with direct to consumer advertising is the dangerous medicalizing of
our citizens. Medicalization: To take a normal human condition and turn it into a medical
condition that needs to be treated. At issue with opponents of DTCA is the belief that the
advertisements gloss over the (sometimes serious) side effects. These ads portray the message of
happy and carefree people whose lives are better because of these drugs. The ubiquitous ads
promote these drugs to the exclusion of any natural remedies or simple lifestyle changes

At the end of each period, nominal accounts are wiped clean and their values relegated to real

Li, eHow Contributor Nominal accounts are closed out at the end of each accounting time period.
In accounting, the accounts that record the values of individual items and phenomenons can be
divided into either real or nominal accounts. Real accounts are used to keep up to date on lasting
items such as assets, liabilities, and equities. In contrast, nominal accounts are used to keep up to
date on certain phenomenon such as revenues and expenses within a set time period. At the end
of each period, nominal accounts are wiped clean and their values relegated to real accounts. 1.
Cash and Accrual Bases * Almost all accounting is done on either a cash or an accrual basis. Cash
and accounting bases differ on when revenues and expenses are recognized. Recognition means to
record the transaction on the accounts in acknowledgment of its occurrence. Cash basis recognizes
revenues and expenses when cash or cash equivalents are either received or paid out for either. In
contrast, accrual basis recognizes revenues and expenses at the times of their occurrences. Revenue

Taking a Look at Naturalism
Naturalism
The style of naturalism, naturalistic writers writers, and naturalistic works were very influential
during the1880 s to 1940 s. Naturalism began as a literary movement that used some what of a
detailed realism of things to prove that social conditions and environment had shaped the human
race. This form of literature was a way of explaining the ways and beauty of everyday
reality.Unlike Romanticism, the use of romance to influence the reader, or Surrealism, the use of
artworks and writings, the readers did not need any type of idealistic or supernatural treatment.
Most writers of naturalism became influenced of Darwinism, or the theory of evolution. They
believed that the characters social environment determined who they truly were. Most, but not all,
naturalistic works exposed the harshness of life. For this reason, naturalistic writers were constantly
criticized for focusing on the misery of the world. Within naturalistic works, different styles are
used. There are more styles of writing in literature but not all of them are used in naturalism.Three
of the most common styles or forms of writing are satire, impressionistic, and sensational. These
styles have some similarities but are used for different reasons.
Satire is the critique of what the author sees as dangerous religious, political, moral, or social
standards. It is sometimes graphic that focuses on abuses and shortcomings with the intent of
discriminating individuals, corporations, government or

The Consequences Of Bonnie And Clyde
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were two of the most notorious criminals of the 1930 s. Known
for robbery, murder and kidnapping the two spent most of their criminal career hiding and running
from law enforcement. They encountered many different people on the run, some of which became
accomplice s others became victims. The movie Bonnie and Clydeis a basic interpretation of the
events that led up to the gruesome killings of the couple.
It started January 5th, 1930 when Bonnie and Clyde first met at a mutual friend s house
(Browder). At the time of their fateful meeting, Bonnie was already married to Roy Thornton,
who was at the time serving a five year sentence in prison (Strickland). They grew close in a
short period of time and soon later Clyde was arrested on charges of burglary and went to jail. A
short time later, by smuggling Clyde a gun in his jail cell, Bonnie helped him escape. However,
it was not long after that he was arrested again, he went back to jail and was sentenced to two
years. However, he only remained there for several months until he was released on general
parole because of his mothers pleading with the governor (Guinn). Ironically just before he was to
be released, a fellow convict in the same facility was asked by Clyde to chop of two of his toes in
order to escape the difficult work detail. (Mcgasko). By 1932, Bonnie and Clyde were together
again and began their crime spree not long after. Clyde, Bonnie, and a few others started to rob small

My Vacation In Life
The feel of the hot sun beating down on my forehead. The sound of people cheering and
chatting. The taste of the delicious sample of fudge that I was just given from a small shop. I
come across a huge billboard in bold blue letters. Where am I? I have just arrived in Branson,
Missouri, where my family and I plan to have an amazing vacation away from home. To arrive in
Branson, we first had to drive down to Missouri in my mom s silver van. As it was my parents,
my three brothers, and me, the car was very crowded with all of our belongings that we needed
for the trip crammed into the car with us. During the long and arduous car ride that dragged on
for hours and hours, we figured out all of the activities that we hope to attend throughout the week
of our trip. After discussing all of our plans, we decide that we will go to Silver Dollar City, which
is an amusement park, a waterpark called White Water, and many stores including Branson s
Landing, Tanger Outlets and the Five and Dimes store. My dad is very organized, and he is also
a perfectionist. He takes out a yellow lined notebook and writes down a list of everything we are
going to do for each day of the four day long vacation. As he finishes, we finally arrive in
Branson, so we quickly check in, grab our room keys, and take all of our belongings up to our
room. In my opinion, I believe that unpacking everything and taking it up the five flights of stairs

America has the largest illegal immigrant population in the world. As a country we are not doing
much to stop it. According to the Pew Research Center, there were approximately 5.7 million

living in America. Immigrationis vital to this country. Unless you are 100% full blooded native,
somewhere down your family s history you immigrated to this county. It is evident that something
needs to be done to fix our immigration system, but what? Strengthening our borders, and deporting

Culture Clash Essay

Culture Clash Paper
2/1/07
The one thing that humans have a hard time understanding is that animals do not think like
humans at all. Their mentality is living off of food, shelter, and sex. Culture Clash really helped
me realize just how confusing an animal s behavior really is. It s not impossible to get to an
animal s level of behavior using Pavlov s operant and classical conditioning, which is fascinating. A
few of the more confusing things that I have come across are how to actually understand how the
animal, in certain situations, is feeling. It s hard to have an animal cooperate with what you re
trying to achieve when you yourself cannot understand the behavior that that animal is showing.

The dogs are always kept outside and bark and bark and bark. From the looks of it they are not very
loved which is a very upsetting thing to see. Watching movies have also given me a bad
perception on certain breeds of dogs. The Sandlot is one movie that has always made me afraid
to be around big dogs. To this day being around big dogs has always made me nervous. The thing
that s so funny is that if a Chihuahua were bigger than it was, it could also be a very vicious dog.
The size doesn t necessarily matter. If the dog is vicious then it s going to be vicious no matter
what size. Sandlot gave me the impression that this huge dog was a man eater and killed kids.
Having that type of entertainment in a movie is very scary to a little kid and very deceiving. I
feel that it all depends on how the animal is brought up and taught. It doesn t matter what breed it
is. Some breeds are thought to be dangerous such as pit bulls and hoteliers when really the only
thing is the way they are trained. One day I was watching Rob Big on MTV and they had just
gotten an American Bulldog puppy. The puppy had been doing the outside duties inside the house
and Rob and Big were trying to figure out why he was doing this. Well they ended calling up a pet
psychologist who they thought could get inside Meaty s head and help him to stop going to the
bathroom in the house. At first I thought the pet psychologist would just help train the dog, but it

Since the early times, opiates, heroin, and other drugs have been used in providing analgesia as

derived from the opium poppy, heroin has been used as an alternative to morphine in dealing with
addiction (Yurgelum Todd, p. 175, 2009). Unfortunately, over the years it has consistently become
prevalent that heroin has more negative aspects than anything; heroin is highly addictive, resulting

Short Essay About The Aztecs
The Aztecs were a complex civilization, I don t know much about the Aztec Civilization, I only
know the outline. The reason why I chose the Aztecs is because I played a few video games
growing up playing as that civilization, and they have always made me more interested in them.
What I know, is eventually they came upon a spot with an eagle sitting on a cactus with a serpent
wrapped in it s legs, that s where Tenochtitlan would be built. Montezuma was their leader, he was
fierce and strict, but at the same time kind hearted and understanding, but nobody mistook his
kindness for weakness, except for the Spanish. The Aztecs would fight enemies and enslave the
rebellions and sacrifice them. The ones that cooperated, would have to pay tributes every few
weeks though. Those people could live a normal life, just under Azteccontrol. They built things
called skyfarms. Those farms were very well designed and worked in the desert setting they lived
in. The Aztecs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Spanish in with open arms, and let them harass him and his economy, and he let it happen, was
he brainwashed into thinking the Spanish were the new leaders? The last thing I would like to

Lord Of The Flies As A Psychological Allegory
Some speculate that the people who commit extremely appalling acts as adults were raised to
commit these ghastly crimes, while others believe that everyone is born with an evil already
inside of them. In William Golding s psychological fiction Lord of the Flies, the idea of being
born innately evil is recurrently alluded to. The novel is about a group of young British boys
who crash land on a remote island. They are left with no laws to tell them what they can or
cannot do, and are extremely frightened of a so called Beast that they expect lives on the island.
In the Lord of the Flies, The Beast symbolizes the evil and devilish proclivity inside of all humans.
Through the use of The Beast , William Goldingillustrates how the novel is... Show more content on

Society and laws, however, have been put in place to keep this Beast hidden. Instead of being the
sweet little British boys that the children were expected to be in the beginning of the novel, the
Beast inside of these kids has shown not only their recklessness, but also their pure evil that has
been kept sequestered.
Not only is The Beast implanted in the children s heads, but it is also something that they can never
truly get rid of. Golding introduces this idea during a conversation between Simon and The Lord of
the Flies: Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! said the head (Golding
143). By claiming that The Beast is not something that the children can hunt and kill, Golding
portrays his belief that the evil inside of all human beings cannot be exterminated. By portraying
this belief, Golding once again relates to the concept of The Beast being the id. Being that the id is
a part of a human s subconscious mind, it would be impossible to completely get rid of it.
However, throughout the text, Golding alludes to the fact that man s evil is covered up by the
rules and laws of society. This, in turn, causes the id to be covered up. One would never walk
amongst others acting completely on emotion. This would progenerate a completely rampageous
environment. Golding is suggesting that society s rules eliminate any chance of this sort of
environment. However, by stripping away society s rules on the island, Golding is

Feed R D or Farm It Out?
A)Actionable Key Issues and Consequences
1)Invest more in Research and Development department in RLK
a.If Lars decides to invest around $6 million more in research and development, it is highly risky
as the company s survival depends largely on the success of the launch of Ray s new product into
the market.
b.Since customers associate RLK with high end audio video design, pumping money into R D
would increase their brand equity as well as to live up to consumers expectations of their highly
innovative products.
c.However, RLK s competitors are downsizing and outsourcing R D and exploiting on the cost
advantages. If RLK decides to invest more money into R D and should the new product stall on
launch, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There will be a huge cost advantage for RLK from the start and hence this reduces risk that the
company will face should the product fail to meet market demands. As there are time differences,
distance and other factors to consider, the lack of interaction between the teams may cause friction
between them and thus create a big problem for RLK.
There is a big cultural difference between Ray s R D team and Inova. This may cause both teams
to be uncooperative and show a lack of enthusiasm in handling this project.
Besides, RLK s brand equity may be at risk by outsourcing as the consumers expectation of RLK is
that their products are designed and produced in the United States.

What is the nature of your special interest in Temple University School of Medicine?
Temple s reputation as a forerunner in medical education and research with values such as
excellence and leadership make it an ideal match for an engaged, driven student like myself.
As an undergraduate, I gained invaluable hands on clinical experience working for the University
Health Services Clinic. I was able to directly interact with the patients, listen to their concerns, take
their vitals, and network with nurses, practitioners and physicians about their condition and
treatment plan. I worked on a team of medical professionals to provide expedited, yet
compassionate care. Temple s emphasis on clinical medicine, starting the very first year, will allow
me to continue my experience and clinical training, further developing my ability to provide
compassionate care through effective interpersonal communication, clinical reasoning, and
teamwork.
With my strong background in research, I truly appreciate Temple s effort to create a well rounded
student, with not just clinical experience, but opportunity scientific exploration. I have worked in
several research labs, creating and

The Foolishness Of Love Is A Force That Exceeds Our...

The Foolishness of Love
Romantic love is a force that exceeds our rational judgment. Out of nowhere, it descends upon us
and destroys our previous notions of ourselves, making us act in uncharacteristic ways. We do not
choose whom and when to love; and falling in love reminds us of how little control we have over
our lives. In spite of this, romantic love is often viewed today as a sure path to ever lasting
happiness. Shakespeare, however, was far more realistic in his portrayal of romance. In his plays,
love often functions as more of a treacherous force overcoming the characters rational selves than a
source of ultimate fulfillment.
Falling in love is often against our best interests, and no one is more aware of this than Beatrice
and Benedick in Much Ado about Nothing. Both of them staunch bachelors, they know all too
well that love makes people vulnerable and often miserable. Beatrice is sensitive to inequality
inherent in marriage whereby a wife should subjugate herself to her husband. She calls men
pieces of valiant dust and insists she does not want to be ruled by them: Would it not grieve a
woman . . . to make an account of her life to a clod of wayward marl? (2.1.51 53). She values her
independence. With her sharp tongue and a quick wit, she has no problem keeping men at bay;
and she prefers it that way. Benedick also proudly rejects love. When Claudio admits his feelings

Alfred Hitchcock Manipulates the Audience to Build...
Psycho is a suspense horror film written by Joseph Stefano and directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
This film was loosely adapted from Robert Bloch s 1959 suspense novel, Psycho. A majority of
the movie was filmed in 1960 at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Psycho is about Marion Crane
(Janet Leigh), a secretary from Arizona who steals $40,000 from her employer s client. She takes
that money and drives off to California to meet her lover Sam Loomis (John Gavin) in order to
start a new life. After a long drive, she pulls off the main highway and ends up taking refuge at an
isolated motel owned and managed by a deranged Norman Bates(Anthony Perkins). In Alfred

This scene makes the viewer believe that she may be the possible psycho referred to by the title
of the film. Another instance that manifests this idea is when ever the camera is on Norman
Bates. Though he seems polite and amiable towards Crane, the shadows on his eyes represent
something more dark and sinister about him. These creative uses of birds and eyes help make
the film have more sharp twists and suspense by subtlety hinting at fear and death. The
characters of the film present another approach that shapes suspense in the film by making the
audience think that Norman Bates is a shy and caring, man who loves his mother no matter
what. Bates is first introduced to the audience when he checks in Marion Crane. He acts polite
towards her even offers her dinner. She exits to her room and this is when the opinion that he
viewers have of Norman Bates changes. He voyeurs through a peephole into her room watching
what she is doing and his actions become questionable. After the shower scene he finds Crane
dead on her bathroom floor. He hides the body because he cares for his mother that much. He
continues to conceal the truth even when a detective comes to question him. His mother kills the
detective and he has to hide another body but his countenance changes as he hides the second
body. His eyes are darkened by the shadows on his face and he doesn t seem to be who he was in
the beginning. He has a more sinister quality and this is fully revealed when he tries to

The Relationship Between Pedagogy And Interaction In The...
As English is becoming a more and more popular language, it is taught as a second language in the

that the organization of turn taking, sequence, and repair follow some rules in the second language

In order to describe the interactional architecture, the institutional core goal needs to be identified
at first, which is what the teacher aims to teach to the learners in the second language classroom.
This core goal remains the same no matter who will teach it and where it will be taught. There are
three properties deriving from the core goal according to Seedhouse (2004), which shapes the
interaction in the second language classroom. Property one is that language is both the medium
and goal of instruction. That is to say, language is not only used by both teachers and learners in
the second language classroom as a medium but also it is the goal of their learning by using this
language. Property two is that pedagogy and interaction have an influence on each other, which
means that if the pedagogical focus changes, the interaction changes as well and vice versa.
Whatever one says in the second language classroom usually reflects that he is displaying his
analysis of the relationship between pedagogy and interaction. Property three is that the interaction
which the learners produce will be evaluated

Everyone has his or her own personal faults in life. Some are looked down upon more for their

A Program Of Management And Leadership Development Essay
If an organization has a track record of effective responsiveness to the environment, and if it has
been able to successfully change the way it operates when needed, TQM will be easier to
implement. If an organization has been historically reactive and has no skill at improving its
operating systems, there will be both employee skepticism and a lack of skilled change agents. If
this condition prevails, a comprehensive program of managementand leadershipdevelopment may
be instituted. A management audit is a good assessment tool to identify current levels of
organizational functioning and areas in need of change. An organization should be basically
healthy before beginning TQM. If it has significant problems such as a very unstable funding base,
weak administrative systems, lack of managerial skill, or poor employee morale, TQM would not
be appropriate.5
However, a certain level of stress is probably desirable to initiate TQM. People need to feel a
need for a change. Kanter (1983) addresses this phenomenon be describing building blocks which
are present in effective organizational change. These forces include departures from tradition, a
crisis or galvanizing event, strategic decisions, individual prime movers, and action vehicles.
Departures from tradition are activities, usually at lower levels of the organization, which occur
when entrepreneurs move outside the normal ways of operating to solve a problem. A crisis, if it
is not too disabling, can also help create a

Human Behaviour Is Odd At The Best Of Times
Generally human behaviour is odd at the best of times. As inhabitants of the planet, most of us
do try to live happy and productive lives against varying degrees of opposition, and sometimes
our coping skills, the actions we take to be happy, appear to others, including ourselves, to be
quite bizarre. This book is a selection of unusual cases from the files of leading therapists. A
collection of first person accounts of the most bizarre therapy encounters ever. This book is
interesting because each chapter is written from a different therapist s perspective and details how
the therapist tackled their bizarre client. Not to be misinterpreted from the title this book isn t a
freak show, tales of the macabre, but a genuine telling of memorable cases from professionals who
have made it their life s work to help people in dire need and is written with genuine compassion
and a noticeable humanity. After finishing the text, it also became clear to me that the business of
the mind, psychiatry and psychology, is by no means a strict science. The various therapeutic
techniques out their being used around the world run into the thousands. It is a social science that
is constantly changing and developing. In other terms, there is no blanket cure for all or a miracle
technique to make us into happy productive people.
After reading these cases, what I notice most of the therapists had in common was their intuition.
The conversations intertwined with the therapist s thoughts makes for a

Abstract
PerCo Incorporated is a nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities in the Perry
County area since 1973. Perry County is a rural community located in Southeastern Ohio with a
population of 34,839, of which 74% is considered rural. PerCo is located at 2235 State Route 13

providing people with disabilities meaningful work experiences.
This interviewer was given the opportunity on several occasions to assist in the PerCo business
office, which is also my place of employment. This interviewer was able to gain first hand
information regarding the steps a small business practices to incorporate their business security

minimal employees. In this business office there are only two employees, the Business Manager

Quest For Meaning
Throughout the entirety of this course, I was able to truly think critically and deeply about
faith, God, death and meaning. This section of Logos was extremely meaningful for me because
I think it is so important to have faith in something higher in order to find true meaning in life. I
choose to live my life in a way that is significant for me because I do not want to depart this
world without leaving something behind. Legacy is important to me, but so is finding meaning
within myself. The works we read, watched and discussed guided and challenged my reflections
so I could develop a clearer understanding of my quest for meaning. After reading one of the very
first readings, The Courage to Be, I realized how influential deathand meaning is on an individual s
life. In the past, I always thought those who feared death were focusing too much on the future and
forgetting to live in the present. I also thought it was senseless to feardeath because it is inevitable.
We are mortal beings: no one is indestructible. Furthermore, I do not think I would want to live
forever even if I was given the opportunity; nonetheless, fearing death is a real issue. After reading
about ontic anxiety, I developed a more sympathetic understanding of this issue. Tillich s writing

The Influence Of Socrates On Virtue And Knowledge
Born circa 469 until 399 B.C.E in Athens, Greece, Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher
who is credited for laying the fundamentals of modern Western philosophy (Routledge, 1999).
Socrates is well known for his iconic trial and execution mainly for his disrespect of the Athenian
democracy, his development of what came to be known as the Socratic method and for his concern
of virtue. However, much of what we know of Socrates is from Platos writings, as he did not leave
any behind.
Socrates ethical theory was focused quite strongly on virtue and knowledge. He was adamant that
the most important goal is not merely surviving or staying alive but living well, not in the sense of
wealth or power, which he criticised the Athenian government of doing so but to live virtuously and
justly.
As quoted by Socrates, Virtue is Knowledge . He believed that living virtuously would ultimately
lead to moral excellence and the way to the good life, which would in turn bring Eudemonia
(Happiness). However, what is virtue? As mentioned in Plato s Meno, Socrates himself did not
know what virtue is. Virtue is defined as any behaviour showing high moral standards. Synonyms...

The Cost of Prohibiting an Individual from Pursuing Their...
Every individual has the right to their own good life, how they go about find and/or making it is
up to them. However, there are certain individuals who feel the need to dictate the path that
others choose to take. Like all actions, there are equal and opposite reactions, in this case, a
consequence. As seen in Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the
consequence that Kreon and Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is
isolation from loved ones. Sophocles character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for
interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s
view of building the good life was to honor the Gods and what they wished upon the people.
When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices]
with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203 204), this went against the views of the
Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and please the Gods by preforming the
burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life. However, Kreon does not let this act
of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there alone, deserted, whether she
desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting Antigone from living
her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone was locked away,
she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself.

The retention factor of a compound changes from laboratory to laboratory, and even from

This would improve the quality of the chromatograms, as the bands produced would be less faint, as
in Chromatogram B, where the bands are only just distinguishable, especially through a photograph.
The chromatograms in both the paper and thin layer chromatography could also be improved by
using a larger stationary phase. A larger piece of paper or thin layer plate would increase the
surface area of the stationary phase, and give the mobile phase, made up of solvents, more time to
travel up the stationary phase. This would allow the pigments within the sample of plant extract to
spread out more, and also give more accurate Rf values. To produce more accurate results and
improve the chromatograms produced, the chromatography method could have been repeated three
times for each investigation, for example three paper chromatograms with acetone as the mobile
phase, and three with the mixed solvents, and then three thin layer chromatograms with the mixed
solvent as the mobile

The Importance Of Paid Domestic Work
Paid domestic work is defined as a person or individual who works within the employer s
household, expected to perform a variety of task including but not limited to child or elderly
care, cleaning and household maintenance. I will argue that the practice of paid domestic work
cannot be reformed and made equitable for three main reasons. The reasons are as follows: 1)
This form of work is not regarded as an actual job or employment by many 2) The practice of
domestic work is embedded in racial roots and practice 3) There isn t a market for individuals
volunteering to do paid domestic work. For the sake of this argument, I will focus on the care of
children as the only form of paid domestic work, particularly the children of privileged or upper
middle class families executed by women who are minorities. When thinking about a traditional job
with an employer and employee, nannies are not the first to come to mind. When working as a
nannyyou are expected to tend to three different things: the children, the house, and the lifestyle and
values of the employer. As explained by Hondagneu Sotelo, Parents hire nanny/housekeepers to do
work involving intimate care, yet many fundamentally resist the idea that these services require
monetary compensation (Hondagneu Sotelo 120). Although this job involves the worker partaking
in both physical and emotional labor, which isn t a requirement for other jobs, it is still seen as one
that isn t actually employment and shouldn t yield

Lady Macbeth Is Not Evil
According to William Penn, A misery is not to be measured from the nature of the evil, but from
the temper of the sufferer. There are people who are willing to seek their own desires even if they
must attempt diabolical plans to pursue them. Some people can carry on with their evil deeds with
satisfaction, while others will regret their own decisions coming into effect. In the play, Macbeth,
evildeeds had to be met with the main characters in order to achieve their goals for royalty. Despite
their success in gaining their power, there were some characters who could not handle the ongoing
immorality that lurked within them from the start. The main villain, Lady Macbeth, was portrayed

Her paranoia has come to a point where she suffered from mental illness. This issue was noticed
as she was caught sleep walking while rubbing her hands and commanding her evidence to be

memories of her evil plan out of her head. Unlike a vile person, who would rather ignore their
crimes and guilt, she kept thinking about it in a worried matter. Her mentality eventually led to
sorrow. Macbeth disapproved her feelings about the misdeed as he ordered the doctor to Pluck
from the memory of rooted sorrow / Raze out the written troubles of the brain (V, iii, 41 42). His
statement about his wife s illness insisted that she was distracted by her remorse. The paranoia

over brimmed her mind and diverted her behaviors negatively. These behaviors worried the doctor
when he prayed, Remove from her the means of all annoyance / And still keep eyes upon her (V, I,

proving once again that her guilty conscience made her snap instead of letting her forget her evil
deed. She could no longer handle the ongoing thoughts that haunted her since the crime despite her

Nora s false reality is partially created because she never forms an opinion of her own. Nora is
always afraid of having an opinion because it will disrupt or upset her husband. Nora s life as an
adult is stunted because she isn t her own person. Nora states that when I was at home with papa,
he told me his opinion about everything, and so I had the same opinions; and if I differed from

transferred from papa s hands into yours. You arranged everything according to your own taste,
and so I got the same tastes as your else I pretended to (III. 142). Nora is a woman made to be a
doll, and she plays the role with lies and misdeeds. Nora again demonstrates the lack of opinion.
Nora s life as a deceptive doll is further showcased by the dangerous decisions she makes. Nora
takes out a fraudulent loan against her father s name because she wants something and cannot have

Although both the Rosenberg trial and Brown v. Board of Education have proven to be of vitality
in regards to social awareness, both cases have very little analogous, nevertheless there still
remains the main theme of justice and apprehension, in which these cases raised in relation to
modern civilization. Justice, otherwise known as the pillar of society and the annihilator of chaos
has always been present in the world, however, in numerous cases the ideology of justice has been
tainted as a result of societal influences. The Rosenberg trial serves as one court case in which
discrimination can be perceived throughout the court case. This is so because of the fact that during
the construction of the Rosenberg trial, many citizens were frightened due to recent embodiment of

The Theme Of Ambition In Dr. Faustus And Twelfth Night
The theme of ambition plays an important role in both Dr. Faustus and Twelfth Night. Faustus,
a man ambitious enough to risk everything to gain infinite knowledge and power, allows his
ambition to be the downfall of him. Malvolio, likewise, allows his ambition to guide his
judgment rather than remain true to what he knows. During the times of Marlowe and
Shakespeare, it was frowned upon to be ambitious. Due to this, Marlowe and Shakespeare both
show ambition to be a terrible quality in people, exemplified through their character s downfalls.
Marlowe uses the genre of his play to illustrate how serious it can be to have ambition.
Shakespeare uses his comedic genre to add dark humor to his play due to having ambition. This
paper will analyze the works of Marlowe and Shakespeare, Dr. Faustus and Twelfth Night, using
the genre of the plays to illustrate the dark path ambition can lead a person.
Christopher Marlowe portrays ambition to be a terrible quality in humans. He exemplifies this
through the immoral decisions Faustus makes throughout the play and inevitably his death in the
end. Dr. Faustus was a man of great knowledge. He was highly educated in all subjects, however,
that was not enough for him. He wanted to be more and know more than any other human. He,
therefore, began to learn the art of necromancy, black magic. His ambition to be more than other
humans led him down a dark path. Marlowe uses the genre of the play, tragedy, to illustrate how
misleading ambition can

The Vision Of A Vision
Setting a vision is incredibly important. Because the people impacted by the change are aware of
exactly what the goals are and what is expected of them. If it is a compelling vision and people
buy into it then it is much easier to make the change happen but if people don t agree it makes
the process much harder. Also some people don t want to change how they do things and want to
continue doing things exactly how they were in the past (this is a problem). The way that the
vision was created is by providing both high level vision statements (long term goals) as well as
much more tactical and strategic guidelines for what to do in the short run. The vision is then
provided to the teamvery often and consistently through both emails and town halls from senior
managementas well as from projects and day to do workload from the directors which ties the
work to the long term vision. It is important that people understand how what they are doing is
connected to the larger goals. It is also important to acknowledge and reinforce that change takes
time and that there is a long term view on success.
The strategies used to achieve the vision included: Providing team training on new tools and
technologies to make sure that everyone no matter where they came from before had the same
foundation to be able to do the job going forward. The vision was repeated and made clear
constantly and consistently so that everyone knew what the goals were and what they were
working towards.

Inequality And Oppression
The aim of this essay is to address the problem of inequality and oppression through three separate
texts, The Second Sex, The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage. The Second Sex focuses on the
woman and her role compared to man. The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage are both texts
that describe experiences about the constant racism felt by blacks. To thoroughly examine these
texts and how they are related to oppression and inequality it is important to first define what each
mean. Oppression and inequality each have different definitions but they go hand in hand.
Oppression is the state of being subject to prolonged unjust treatment. While inequality is defined
as lacking equality, equality is the state of being equal especially in status,... Show more content on

Simone de Beauvoir focuses on women and their permanent otherness, women will always be
this other . They are never the subject or absolute like man is. This constant oppression of
women is different of others, women are not a minority, they are numerically almost equal to
man and yet man has still been able to create dominance over them. Man is the superior, they are
the absolute and women are the other. Oppositely, bell hooks and Patricia Williams speak on the
inequality of minorities, specifically blacks. Racism and killing rage are heavily connected.
Racism is strong and deep; it is the phantom in the room. Killing rage is a rage that is felt after
constant unjust treatment, it is a rage that is healing. This killing rage should be viewed as a
passion for freedom. I think a passion for freedom should be the forefront change. This passion for
freedom can be connected to each author. A passion for freedom can aid in changing the permanent
otherness women have faced and continue to face. Otherness is expressed through inequalities in
pay and the way women are viewed. Simone de Beauvoir s text brought up important and relevant
inequalities women and minorities face. Patricia Williams text focusing on the inequality blacks
face is relevant and important. Again a passion for freedom from oppression and inequality should
be expressed. By Patricia Williams continually

Respecting The Founding Fathers
Since the establishment of our nation, the founding fathers have been looked upon with veneration.
The numerous monuments throughout the country dedicated to these courageous men demonstrate
their lasting dignity in our society. These men were exceptional leaders who played a substantial
role in American history and tremendously shaped our country for the better. They gave us some of
our most beloved documents, led the way to our freedom from Great Britain, and provided us with
the foundations for our current government. These men dedicated their lives to the betterment of
our nation and deserve an accolade of admiration and honor. Our forefathers encouraged and highly

Our forefathers dedicated their lives to the establishment of our nation, but what inspired these men
to do this? First, these men felt a responsibility to their country. George Washington said in his first
inaugural address I was summoned by my country, whose voice I can never hear but with
veneration and love... (Document C) Second, they were unhappy about Great Britain s brutality
towards the colonies. As stated by the founders in the Declaration of Independence, Great Britain
was responsible for cutting off our trade with other parts of the world and imposing taxes without
our consent. According to the founding fathers, Great Britain also plundered our seas, ravaged our
coasts, burned our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people. (Document N) These men thought
the actions of Great Britain were unfair and they needed to protect the rights of their people and
stand up for their country. Finally, they wanted freedom for themselves and for generations to
come. In a letter to Abigail Adams, John Adamswrites I must study politics and war that my sons

The Life Of Catherine Malabou And Levi Bryant
Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant: A critical comparison of materialisms
Speculative materialism arose in response to the post Kantian philosophy of correlationism.
Scholars have since debated the relationship of the perceived (object) and the perceiver (subject).
Kant s transcendental materialist philosophy supports what Quentin Meillassoux terms weak
correlationism in that it allows for the thinking of the unknowable. However, strong correlationist
(i.e. Heidegger and Hegel) refute that humans can escape their own thoughts, therefore making it
impossible to know or even imagine that anything outside of the correlationist circle (objects in and
of themselves) exists. Both Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant can be seen as emphasizing
speculative materialism in that they attempt to move beyond this subject object correlate. While
Malabou describes neuronal plasticity in What Should We Do With Our Brain, Bryant focuses on
machines and their ontology in Onto Cartography: An Ontology of Machines and Media. Malabou
s ultimate description of the resistance and contradiction between the brain and mind fails to be
accounted for by Bryant s ontology and conception of machines . Bryant s object oriented ontology
does little to explain the origin of freedom in his machines (whereby we can begin to take charge of
society); however, Bryant does suggest the use of thermopolitics to attack institutions. Together,
Malabou and Bryant s philosophies provide new ways of thinking about

Ultrasound Is Sound Based Imaging Technique
Introduction
Ultrasound is acoustic energy with a frequency at about 20kHz which is above the capability of
human hearing. It is more commonly used in the medical field than food industry. In the medical
field, the most significant usage of ultrasound is in sonographic scanners. As these scanners work at
2 18MHz, it produces smaller wavelength which is able to make sonogram of smaller details. As
such, ultrasound sound based imaging technique is used to visualize body structures and tissues
(Carovac, Smajlovic, Junuzovic, 2011). Ultrasound contributes to the food industry via its acoustic
cavitation in food and dairy processing. For example, extraction using ultrasound technology has
shown to increase yield of high value food ingredients while emulsification produces food
emulsions with smaller droplet size (Chandrapala, Oliver, Kentish, Ashokkumar, 2012). In the dairy
industry, ultrasound was proved to enhance heat stability of dairy proteins and is used to separate
fat from milk (Grieser, 2015). Although most of the reported benefits of using ultrasound in food
industry was done in the laboratory, major advances have been made in recent years to utilize
ultrasound in commercial processes (Patist Bates, 2008).
Mechanism?
The intrinsic mechanism of crystallization under the influenced of ultrasonic irradiation was not
well understood though there are many researchers working on this topic for the past few years. In
spite of that, the two recognized mechanism that

Characteristics Of Vinny And Joe-Boy In The Ravine
How would you feel about jumping off a 50 foot cliff?scared?brave?Or excited?Vinny and Joe boy
are both characters in a story called The Ravine .They are best friends who live in Hawaii and go to
a ravine to cliff jump and swim.there was a boy who died two weeks and one day before they
arrived. Joe boy and vinny are different in many ways and they are similar in some ways.
One characteristic of Vinny is that he is scared. On Pg 7 Vinny was scared of getting caught going
to the Ravine by his mom. She told him to stay away from the Ravine. He goes anyway, but is
scared of getting caught. Another characteristic of Vinny is that he is weak. On page seven,
Vinny says, He was so weak, he couldn t even say no . But if I said no, my mother wouldn t like
it they would have laughed him right off the island. No choice. He had to go. This quote from
VInny shows that he is weak because he can t stand up to his friends. Vinny is also afraid of
heights. On pg 7, Vinny says, He couldn t imagine what it must feel like to be up there, especially
if you were afraid of heights like he was. This line shows that Vinny is scared of heights.
Joe boy Was a bad leader because his friends do what he tells them to do.pg 7.12 He was brave
because he jumps man style . pg 8.line 190 He does not care because in the story joe boy said so,
come with use anyway . pg 7.line 124
Both 15 years old,both boys,both good swimmers,both friends,Vinny and Joe boy are both 15
years old, probably because they were both born in the same year. They are both good swimmers
because they took lessons for swimming. They are probably friends because they probably meant
at school and became friends at that time. Vinny and Joe boy are alike in many ways but are
different in some ways to.
Joe boy and vinny are alike in a lot of ways but not alike in some ways to. Vinny is weak and
scared. Joe Boy is strong.Even though they have many differences, they are both alike Although joe
boy is controlling at the beginning ,vinny finds that standing up to his friend brings him peace.

My First Shopping Trip
I reminisce the time like it was yesterday, the white tile along the floor as I walked by my mom s
side, my fragile body shivering from the coldness I felt, my eyes taking quick glimpses of
everything near me. I can just imagine how my pupils dilated from the excitement of all the
beautiful things I saw. At that moment I didn t realize my first shopping trip would have such
an impact on my future. I can recall the amazing feeling I felt when I purchased my first outfit.
Why would this mean so much to me? I was born with an identical twin. For 7 years of my life, I
wore the exact same thing as my sister. I was always known as a twin ,when I picked out my first
outfit everything changed. It was a way for me to make a new identity for myself. I love being a
twin, but some people do not understand that we are so different. Fashionis a way for me to express
who I am.
For as long as I can remember I have always been dedicated to make my dreams possible. I was
so determined to make my dreams happen that at the young age of ten I began taking sewing
lessons. A year after that my parents signed me up for summer art workshops. At first I was
horrible at drawing, but as time passed and as I got older I got very good. At the age of fourteen I
got so talented that my art teacher started entering me into local and national art contests. I won
many awards including The Scholastic Art Award , Brain Art Competition, Wrecks Of The World

  • 2. What Is The Exploration Of Brazil Essay Exploration of Brazil Introduction Let s take a vacation to Brazil. I will be traveling to Brazil June 20th 24th through the 22nd. I chose to travel to Brazil, because of the beautiful cities and nature that is located there. Also, I always wanted to travel to Brazil. I will also be taking my sister Noelle, because she has traveled all around the world for study abroad, and she will know what to expect. Brazil is located in South America. Brazil is a good destination to travel all year round, because temperatures almost never drop below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The climate is always hot and dry or humid and sticky. Although, the Rainforests get very hot at around 104 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius. We will need to bring lots of water because of the hot temperatures. The only places that gets cold are the southern mountainous regions. Sometimes temperatures there in the mountainous are as low as 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius. We will not need to worry about the cold temperatures in the southern areas, because we will not be travelling there. Brazil is also quite big, it takes up almost half of South America, and in comparison to Michigan Brazil is 34 times bigger. • 3. Love And Nurturing In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein For human beings, decisions are made by how one feels. People who are rejected and disliked can feel degraded and insignificant. Feeling this way can influence regretful and unjustifiable actions. This would be why love and nurturing is so important for human beings. As seen in Frankenstein, the rejection caused the monster to feel miserable and alone. He lashed out causing countless tragedies and misfortunes for Victor Frankensteinand those around him. If the monster had only been cared for, this series of unfortunate events could have been prevented. Think of the monster as a young child. He was just brought to life and he longs for love and care from his creator. Likewise, young children want love from their parents. Imagine all of those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Andy Warhol Analysis If I could be any artist from the history of art, I would want to be the female version of Andy Warhol. Warhol was a talented artist along with other things such as being a well accredited producer and director. In my opinion, one of Warhol s best works of art is Coca Cola. Although this painting might be ordinary and simple, I think Warhol s reason for creating this art, along with most of his other art, is what made Warhol s art so famous and popular. As Warhol stated himself, I just paint things I always thought were beautiful, things you use every day and never think about ( Andy Warhol). Warhol turned normal, everyday objects like a Coca Cola bottle into a work of art because he was grateful for the simple things in life due to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Warhol did not have the easiest time growing up, yet he was still able to create a successful and memorable life for himself. I think that Warhol and I have a similar outlook on life. I hope that no matter where my life takes me that I can continue to make the most of the littlest things just like Warhol did. If I were an artist like Warhol, my art would be centered around my life and simple objects. Art should be expressive, and what better way to express oneself than to show their life struggles through art. I would also create art that enhances simply, everyday objects. Sometimes the things we tend to overlook are the things that have the most beauty. Not everyone finds beauty in ordinary objects, but that is something that Warhol and I have in common everyday objects can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tale Of Two Cities Injustice A Tale Of Two Cities A Tale Of Two Cities was during the French Revolution. It was a time of disorder and also an outstanding period. It was the time of fear, of lots of violence, robberies, and blood all over the streets. It was the time of joy and happiness. It was the time of injustice throughout society. A time of great change throughout society. The book A Tale Of Two City has majors theme throughout the book. One major theme is metaphorically resurrected from death and having a second chance at life. Another major theme throughout the book is how society was injustice and corrupted. Resurrection from death is coming back to live figuratively. Throughout the book more than one characters are being resurrected from death. A main person is Dr.Manette. Manette was imprisoned for eighteen years in the Bastile unjustly. Manette was figuratively dead. Manette spent his time in prison making shoes. Manette had a second chance at life when he was released from prison. Manette became a better person and tries to forget about his past. Poor people were forced to pay taxes. This shows how society was injustice having poor people paying taxes to all these people. Also it was injustice because Dr.Manette was unjustly put behind the bars of Bastille. with such humane achievements as sentencing a youth to have his hands cut off, his tongue torn out with pincers, and his body burned alive, because he had not kneeled down in the rain to do honour to a dirty procession of monks (Dickens 2). • 6. Essay Psuedopsychology vs the Scientific Method Humans have inhabited the Earth for thousands of years and it is perceived by many that we are among the most intellectual species on this planet. Although having lived on this planet for so long, being able to distinguish fact from fiction has escaped the minds of many. People of today s society are easily influenced by what is told to them instead of what can be proven. Believing in something that has no scientific evidence is not only absurd but can be classified simply as ignorance. Many of the erratic ideas that are believed by many today have originated in a time where superstition was more popular than science. These beliefs appear to be proven by science, but in reality are not valid and frequently confused with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All procedure varies from field to field but the steps must be repeatable to predict future results and this is where psudopsychology and fact clash. Replicating the methods is tricky for those who are practicing these psychologies because they have to do it a certain way in order for the beliefs of everyone to remain the same. Horoscopes and Astrology: A man who made the practice of horoscopes and astrology susceptible to Christians allowed for these beliefs to spread throughout the world in the 1600 s was William Lilly. During his time he was seen as a great prophet, and became famous for predicting The Great Fire of London through one of his hieroglyphic drawings (McCann, 1990). The Great Fire of London happened on September 2, 1666 and it started out as a small fire in the bakeshop of Thomas Forger destroying about 430 acres of land including 13,000 house, 89 churches and many other buildings leaving countless homeless. This fire occurred 14 years after William Lilly predicted one, and at this time London has been prone to having fires due to its infrastructure. Most of the houses and other buildings were made of wood and highly flammable, causing something that started as a house fire to a fire that engulfed a great majority of London. This hasn t been the only great fire that this city has witnessed. Along with the fire of 1633 and 1676, the fire of 1666 has increased its caliber of destruction primarily because of the city s construction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of Discontent In Shakespeare s King Lear Characters are often unsatisfied with their the place they find themselves in society. Discontent is what drives them to gain ambition in their ability to radically change their situation to one that is most favorable in their perspective. These changes differ from character to character, including alterations in their moral conduct, mental capability, or in something as easy as his way of dress. The ambition to change rests deep within the character s soul, regardless of how simple their actions may be. Fathoming a false image of oneself not only damages the individual, but creates trouble for the people around them, such as family and loved ones. An individual s set of morals is proven when faced with adversity. Edmund in Shakespeare s King Lear was labeled as the illegitimate child of Gloucester. A believer in the laws on nature rather than the norms and regulations of society, the title of being the illegitimate child aggravated Edmund immensely; there wasn t one single difference between him and his legitimate brother, Edgar: [...] why bastard? / When my dimensions are as well compact, / My mind as generous and my shape as true [...] (I ii 6 7). In frustration, Edmund expressed his loyalty to nature and her laws, where all children were treated equally by their families, and in turn questioned the authority of manmade, royal laws that discriminated against him unjustly. Edmund wanted what he couldn t have by conventional terms, his father s wealth that would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Direct to consumer advertising (DTCA) is what they call the prescription drugs advertisements that are made specifically for the consumer. Consumers will be more likely to initiate a conversation with their physician after seeing an advertisement on television, or in a magazine. In a paper titled An Insider s Perspective: Defense of the Pharmaceutical Industry s Marketing Practices, author Kanika Johar (2013) writes, In my experience, the goal of DTCA is to increase market share for the new drug by bringing awareness to a particular disease that the drug treats (p.10). The first part of that sentence is remarkably candid. As an industry insider, Johar admits that increasing market share is the goal of DTCA. While proponents cite education and awareness as reasons to continue DTCA, research consistently shows that consumers are not educated in any meaningful way about drugs and their side effects in a 2 minute commercial or a tiny 4 point font, need a degree in biotechnology to understand, print advertisement (Frosch et al, 2010; Arnold Oakley, 2013). One of the biggest problems with direct to consumer advertising is the dangerous medicalizing of our citizens. Medicalization: To take a normal human condition and turn it into a medical condition that needs to be treated. At issue with opponents of DTCA is the belief that the advertisements gloss over the (sometimes serious) side effects. These ads portray the message of happy and carefree people whose lives are better because of these drugs. The ubiquitous ads promote these drugs to the exclusion of any natural remedies or simple lifestyle changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Explanation of Accounting System Tracking of Revenue amp; Expenses By Alan Li, eHow Contributor Nominal accounts are closed out at the end of each accounting time period. In accounting, the accounts that record the values of individual items and phenomenons can be divided into either real or nominal accounts. Real accounts are used to keep up to date on lasting items such as assets, liabilities, and equities. In contrast, nominal accounts are used to keep up to date on certain phenomenon such as revenues and expenses within a set time period. At the end of each period, nominal accounts are wiped clean and their values relegated to real accounts. 1. • 10. Taking a Look at Naturalism Naturalism The style of naturalism, naturalistic writers writers, and naturalistic works were very influential during the1880 s to 1940 s. Naturalism began as a literary movement that used some what of a detailed realism of things to prove that social conditions and environment had shaped the human race. This form of literature was a way of explaining the ways and beauty of everyday reality.Unlike Romanticism, the use of romance to influence the reader, or Surrealism, the use of artworks and writings, the readers did not need any type of idealistic or supernatural treatment. Most writers of naturalism became influenced of Darwinism, or the theory of evolution. They believed that the characters social environment determined who they truly were. Most, but not all, naturalistic works exposed the harshness of life. For this reason, naturalistic writers were constantly criticized for focusing on the misery of the world. Within naturalistic works, different styles are used. There are more styles of writing in literature but not all of them are used in naturalism.Three of the most common styles or forms of writing are satire, impressionistic, and sensational. • 11. The Consequences Of Bonnie And Clyde Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were two of the most notorious criminals of the 1930 s. Known for robbery, murder and kidnapping the two spent most of their criminal career hiding and running from law enforcement. They encountered many different people on the run, some of which became accomplice s others became victims. The movie Bonnie and Clydeis a basic interpretation of the events that led up to the gruesome killings of the couple. It started January 5th, 1930 when Bonnie and Clyde first met at a mutual friend s house (Browder). At the time of their fateful meeting, Bonnie was already married to Roy Thornton, who was at the time serving a five year sentence in prison (Strickland). They grew close in a short period of time and soon later Clyde was arrested on charges of burglary and went to jail. A short time later, by smuggling Clyde a gun in his jail cell, Bonnie helped him escape. However, it was not long after that he was arrested again, he went back to jail and was sentenced to two years. However, he only remained there for several months until he was released on general parole because of his mothers pleading with the governor (Guinn). Ironically just before he was to be released, a fellow convict in the same facility was asked by Clyde to chop of two of his toes in order to escape the difficult work detail. (Mcgasko). • 12. My Vacation In Life The feel of the hot sun beating down on my forehead. The sound of people cheering and chatting. The taste of the delicious sample of fudge that I was just given from a small shop. I come across a huge billboard in bold blue letters. Where am I? I have just arrived in Branson, Missouri, where my family and I plan to have an amazing vacation away from home. To arrive in Branson, we first had to drive down to Missouri in my mom s silver van. As it was my parents, my three brothers, and me, the car was very crowded with all of our belongings that we needed for the trip crammed into the car with us. During the long and arduous car ride that dragged on for hours and hours, we figured out all of the activities that we hope to attend throughout the week of our trip. After discussing all of our plans, we decide that we will go to Silver Dollar City, which is an amusement park, a waterpark called White Water, and many stores including Branson s Landing, Tanger Outlets and the Five and Dimes store. My dad is very organized, and he is also a perfectionist. He takes out a yellow lined notebook and writes down a list of everything we are going to do for each day of the four day long vacation. As he finishes, we finally arrive in Branson, so we quickly check in, grab our room keys, and take all of our belongings up to our room. • 13. United States Immigration Policy Analysis America has the largest illegal immigrant population in the world. As a country we are not doing much to stop it. According to the Pew Research Center, there were approximately 5.7 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. in 1995. As of 2014, there are around 11.3 million living in America. Immigrationis vital to this country. Unless you are 100% full blooded native, somewhere down your family s history you immigrated to this county. Their mentality is living off of food, shelter, and sex. Culture Clash really helped me realize just how confusing an animal s behavior really is. It s not impossible to get to an animal s level of behavior using Pavlov s operant and classical conditioning, which is fascinating. A few of the more confusing things that I have come across are how to actually understand how the animal, in certain situations, is feeling. It s hard to have an animal cooperate with what you re trying to achieve when you yourself cannot understand the behavior that that animal is showing. When brainstorming for this ... To this day being around big dogs has always made me nervous. The thing that s so funny is that if a Chihuahua were bigger than it was, it could also be a very vicious dog. The size doesn t necessarily matter. If the dog is vicious then it s going to be vicious no matter what size. Sandlot gave me the impression that this huge dog was a man eater and killed kids. Having that type of entertainment in a movie is very scary to a little kid and very deceiving. I feel that it all depends on how the animal is brought up and taught. It doesn t matter what breed it is. Some breeds are thought to be dangerous such as pit bulls and hoteliers when really the only thing is the way they are trained. Lord Of The Flies As A Psychological Allegory Some speculate that the people who commit extremely appalling acts as adults were raised to commit these ghastly crimes, while others believe that everyone is born with an evil already inside of them. In William Golding s psychological fiction Lord of the Flies, the idea of being born innately evil is recurrently alluded to. The novel is about a group of young British boys who crash land on a remote island. They are left with no laws to tell them what they can or cannot do, and are extremely frightened of a so called Beast that they expect lives on the island. Instead of being the sweet little British boys that the children were expected to be in the beginning of the novel, the Beast inside of these kids has shown not only their recklessness, but also their pure evil that has been kept sequestered. Not only is The Beast implanted in the children s heads, but it is also something that they can never truly get rid of. Golding introduces this idea during a conversation between Simon and The Lord of the Flies: Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! said the head (Golding 143). By claiming that The Beast is not something that the children can hunt and kill, Golding portrays his belief that the evil inside of all human beings cannot be exterminated. By portraying this belief, Golding once again relates to the concept of The Beast being the id. Being that the id is a part of a human s subconscious mind, it would be impossible to completely get rid of it. However, throughout the text, Golding alludes to the fact that man s evil is covered up by the rules and laws of society. This, in turn, causes the id to be covered up. • 22. The Foolishness Of Love Is A Force That Exceeds Our... Viktoryia Hvozdz Professor Bradley Irish English 321 8 October, 2015 The Foolishness of Love Romantic love is a force that exceeds our rational judgment. Out of nowhere, it descends upon us and destroys our previous notions of ourselves, making us act in uncharacteristic ways. We do not choose whom and when to love; and falling in love reminds us of how little control we have over our lives. In spite of this, romantic love is often viewed today as a sure path to ever lasting happiness. Shakespeare, however, was far more realistic in his portrayal of romance. In his plays, love often functions as more of a treacherous force overcoming the characters rational selves than a source of ultimate fulfillment. Falling in love is often against our best interests, and no one is more aware of this than Beatrice and Benedick in Much Ado about Nothing. Both of them staunch bachelors, they know all too well that love makes people vulnerable and often miserable. Beatrice is sensitive to inequality inherent in marriage whereby a wife should subjugate herself to her husband. She calls men pieces of valiant dust and insists she does not want to be ruled by them: Would it not grieve a woman . . . to make an account of her life to a clod of wayward marl? (2.1.51 53). She values her independence. With her sharp tongue and a quick wit, she has no problem keeping men at bay; and she prefers it that way. Benedick also proudly rejects love. This scene makes the viewer believe that she may be the possible psycho referred to by the title of the film. Another instance that manifests this idea is when ever the camera is on Norman Bates. These creative uses of birds and eyes help make the film have more sharp twists and suspense by subtlety hinting at fear and death. The characters of the film present another approach that shapes suspense in the film by making the audience think that Norman Bates is a shy and caring, man who loves his mother no matter what. • 26. A Program Of Management And Leadership Development Essay If an organization has a track record of effective responsiveness to the environment, and if it has been able to successfully change the way it operates when needed, TQM will be easier to implement. If an organization has been historically reactive and has no skill at improving its operating systems, there will be both employee skepticism and a lack of skilled change agents. If this condition prevails, a comprehensive program of managementand leadershipdevelopment may be instituted. A management audit is a good assessment tool to identify current levels of organizational functioning and areas in need of change. An organization should be basically healthy before beginning TQM. If it has significant problems such as a very unstable funding base, weak administrative systems, lack of managerial skill, or poor employee morale, TQM would not be appropriate.5 However, a certain level of stress is probably desirable to initiate TQM. People need to feel a need for a change. Kanter (1983) addresses this phenomenon be describing building blocks which are present in effective organizational change. These forces include departures from tradition, a crisis or galvanizing event, strategic decisions, individual prime movers, and action vehicles. The Influence Of Socrates On Virtue And Knowledge Born circa 469 until 399 B.C.E in Athens, Greece, Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who is credited for laying the fundamentals of modern Western philosophy (Routledge, 1999). Socrates is well known for his iconic trial and execution mainly for his disrespect of the Athenian democracy, his development of what came to be known as the Socratic method and for his concern of virtue. However, much of what we know of Socrates is from Platos writings, as he did not leave any behind. Socrates ethical theory was focused quite strongly on virtue and knowledge. He was adamant that the most important goal is not merely surviving or staying alive but living well, not in the sense of wealth or power, which he criticised the Athenian government of doing so but to live virtuously and justly. As quoted by Socrates, Virtue is Knowledge . He believed that living virtuously would ultimately lead to moral excellence and the way to the good life, which would in turn bring Eudemonia (Happiness). However, what is virtue? As seen in Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the consequence that Kreon and Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is isolation from loved ones. Sophocles character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s view of building the good life was to honor the Gods and what they wished upon the people. When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices] with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203 204), this went against the views of the Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and please the Gods by preforming the burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life. However, Kreon does not let this act of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there alone, deserted, whether she desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting Antigone from living her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone was locked away, she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This would improve the quality of the chromatograms, as the bands produced would be less faint, as in Chromatogram B, where the bands are only just distinguishable, especially through a photograph. The chromatograms in both the paper and thin layer chromatography could also be improved by using a larger stationary phase. A larger piece of paper or thin layer plate would increase the surface area of the stationary phase, and give the mobile phase, made up of solvents, more time to travel up the stationary phase. This would allow the pigments within the sample of plant extract to spread out more, and also give more accurate Rf values. To produce more accurate results and improve the chromatograms produced, the chromatography method could have been repeated three times for each investigation, for example three paper chromatograms with acetone as the mobile phase, and three with the mixed solvents, and then three thin layer chromatograms with the mixed solvent as the mobile ... • 38. The Importance Of Paid Domestic Work Paid domestic work is defined as a person or individual who works within the employer s household, expected to perform a variety of task including but not limited to child or elderly care, cleaning and household maintenance. I will argue that the practice of paid domestic work cannot be reformed and made equitable for three main reasons. The reasons are as follows: 1) This form of work is not regarded as an actual job or employment by many 2) The practice of domestic work is embedded in racial roots and practice 3) There isn t a market for individuals volunteering to do paid domestic work. For the sake of this argument, I will focus on the care of children as the only form of paid domestic work, particularly the children of privileged or upper middle class families executed by women who are minorities. When thinking about a traditional job with an employer and employee, nannies are not the first to come to mind. When working as a nannyyou are expected to tend to three different things: the children, the house, and the lifestyle and values of the employer. As explained by Hondagneu Sotelo, Parents hire nanny/housekeepers to do work involving intimate care, yet many fundamentally resist the idea that these services require monetary compensation (Hondagneu Sotelo 120). Although this job involves the worker partaking in both physical and emotional labor, which isn t a requirement for other jobs, it is still seen as one that isn t actually employment and shouldn t yield ... There are people who are willing to seek their own desires even if they must attempt diabolical plans to pursue them. Some people can carry on with their evil deeds with satisfaction, while others will regret their own decisions coming into effect. In the play, Macbeth, evildeeds had to be met with the main characters in order to achieve their goals for royalty. Unlike a vile person, who would rather ignore their crimes and guilt, she kept thinking about it in a worried matter. Her mentality eventually led to sorrow. Macbeth disapproved her feelings about the misdeed as he ordered the doctor to Pluck from the memory of rooted sorrow / Raze out the written troubles of the brain (V, iii, 41 42). His statement about his wife s illness insisted that she was distracted by her remorse. The paranoia she faced made her reveal her repentance and made her less ambitious for royalty. Her emotions over brimmed her mind and diverted her behaviors negatively. These behaviors worried the doctor when he prayed, Remove from her the means of all annoyance / And still keep eyes upon her (V, I, 72 73). His assumption of Lady Macbeth taking her own life foreshadowed her tragic death, proving once again that her guilty conscience made her snap instead of letting her forget her evil deed. Nora states that when I was at home with papa, he told me his opinion about everything, and so I had the same opinions; and if I differed from him I concealed the fact, because he would not have liked it (III.141) and that I was simply transferred from papa s hands into yours. Faustus, a man ambitious enough to risk everything to gain infinite knowledge and power, allows his ambition to be the downfall of him. Malvolio, likewise, allows his ambition to guide his judgment rather than remain true to what he knows. During the times of Marlowe and Shakespeare, it was frowned upon to be ambitious. Due to this, Marlowe and Shakespeare both show ambition to be a terrible quality in people, exemplified through their character s downfalls. • 44. The Vision Of A Vision Setting a vision is incredibly important. Because the people impacted by the change are aware of exactly what the goals are and what is expected of them. If it is a compelling vision and people buy into it then it is much easier to make the change happen but if people don t agree it makes the process much harder. Also some people don t want to change how they do things and want to continue doing things exactly how they were in the past (this is a problem). The way that the vision was created is by providing both high level vision statements (long term goals) as well as much more tactical and strategic guidelines for what to do in the short run. The vision is then provided to the teamvery often and consistently through both emails and town halls from senior managementas well as from projects and day to do workload from the directors which ties the work to the long term vision. It is important that people understand how what they are doing is connected to the larger goals. It is also important to acknowledge and reinforce that change takes time and that there is a long term view on success. The strategies used to achieve the vision included: Providing team training on new tools and technologies to make sure that everyone no matter where they came from before had the same foundation to be able to do the job going forward. The vision was repeated and made clear constantly and consistently so that everyone knew what the goals were and what they were working towards. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Second Sex focuses on the woman and her role compared to man. The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage are both texts that describe experiences about the constant racism felt by blacks. To thoroughly examine these texts and how they are related to oppression and inequality it is important to first define what each mean. • 49. The Life Of Catherine Malabou And Levi Bryant Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant: A critical comparison of materialisms Speculative materialism arose in response to the post Kantian philosophy of correlationism. Scholars have since debated the relationship of the perceived (object) and the perceiver (subject). Kant s transcendental materialist philosophy supports what Quentin Meillassoux terms weak correlationism in that it allows for the thinking of the unknowable. However, strong correlationist (i.e. Heidegger and Hegel) refute that humans can escape their own thoughts, therefore making it impossible to know or even imagine that anything outside of the correlationist circle (objects in and of themselves) exists. Both Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant can be seen as emphasizing speculative materialism in that they attempt to move beyond this subject object correlate. While Malabou describes neuronal plasticity in What Should We Do With Our Brain, Bryant focuses on machines and their ontology in Onto Cartography: An Ontology of Machines and Media. Malabou s ultimate description of the resistance and contradiction between the brain and mind fails to be accounted for by Bryant s ontology and conception of machines . Bryant s object oriented ontology does little to explain the origin of freedom in his machines (whereby we can begin to take charge of society); however, Bryant does suggest the use of thermopolitics to attack institutions. • 50. Ultrasound Is Sound Based Imaging Technique Introduction Ultrasound is acoustic energy with a frequency at about 20kHz which is above the capability of human hearing. It is more commonly used in the medical field than food industry. In the medical field, the most significant usage of ultrasound is in sonographic scanners. As these scanners work at 2 18MHz, it produces smaller wavelength which is able to make sonogram of smaller details. As such, ultrasound sound based imaging technique is used to visualize body structures and tissues (Carovac, Smajlovic, Junuzovic, 2011). Ultrasound contributes to the food industry via its acoustic cavitation in food and dairy processing. For example, extraction using ultrasound technology has shown to increase yield of high value food ingredients while emulsification produces food emulsions with smaller droplet size (Chandrapala, Oliver, Kentish, Ashokkumar, 2012). In the dairy industry, ultrasound was proved to enhance heat stability of dairy proteins and is used to separate fat from milk (Grieser, 2015). Although most of the reported benefits of using ultrasound in food industry was done in the laboratory, major advances have been made in recent years to utilize ultrasound in commercial processes (Patist Bates, 2008).
