Canadas Shame Essay
The infamous Harp (whitecoat) and Hooded (blueback) seal hunt photos have virtually disappeared
from newspapers or television news. That does not mean that seal hunting in Canada has stopped. The
mass killing of seals off Canada amp;#8217;s East Coast is commercial, cruel, and wasteful, yet
despite furious outcry from Animal Rights activists the government is refusing to take notice. The
cruelty of this extensive killing operation, which starts during the seals amp;#8217; birthing season,
has been denounced for years as amp;#8220;Canada amp;#8217;s Shame. ;
The senseless slaughter of seals springs from the profit they bring, the use of their pelts for coats, and
other products. It has been proven though, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The big commercially owned boats on the other hand have an entirely different method of killing. Seal
pups are gathered up individually and incased in netting amp;#8211; somewhat like a bag of oranges.
Dozens of baby seals in net bags are packed into wire cages and moved by helicopters to fur farms.
After the pups molt, they are killed. Catching seals in nets unavoidably causes a slow and painful
death for these beautiful mammals.
Seals are mammals, warm blooded like the rest of us. There is nothing in place to protect them
because under Canadian law, these mammals are legally considered to be fish! Perhaps that is why our
government thinks so little about slaughtering these animals. Perhaps that is why the quotas have been
set so high and why both the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland are now
providing subsidies to entice more fishermen and sport hunters to kill seals. The Government of
Canada is gambling that the public has forgotten about the cruel and bloody images of the Canadian
seal hunt prior to 1984. The truth is, nothing has changed amp;#8220; amp;#8230;about 220 000 seal
pups were killed in 1997 alone. ; And this statistic does not even take into account the thousands of
mature seals being killed; it amp;#8217;s merely the estimated number of seal pups being massacred.
Consequently the Canadian commercial seal

The Right And Choice Of Abortion

The Right to Life or Choice The decision to end the life of someone without their own consent has
caused great disruption among Americans. Before the civil rights movement, Americans idealized the
idea that abortion was ultimately prohibited due to the fact that religion predominated the beliefs of
the people. Now in a rapid changing liberal society, people are questioning if prohibiting a woman
from aborting is denying her inalienable right of freedom as listed under the First Amendment. The
right to abortion should be left in the hands of a woman s personal decision rather than being obligated
to live with the results of something she never wanted.
Abortion is the deliberate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interpretation of this verse gives the proof that life begins even before the site of conception.
Therefore, the religions use this claim to enforce the fact that an abortion on whatever circumstance is
the killing of a human being. For instance, the Muslim faith has stated, Muslims regard abortion as
wrong and forbidden(BBC) . These views of the Muslim religion relate to the central idea that the
killing of a organism at any given time during the pregnancy is unethical and forbidden. In essence,
the idea of abortion has predominated as a wrongful sin according to religion and science. On the
other hand, there are people who suggest that the idea to be obligated to have a child is a form of
inhumanity in itself, as it robs the person of an unalienable right, the right to choose. In the tragic
testimony given by Lorna, she presents to the world her story on how live changing the ability to abort
can be. This testimony was presented by the National Abortion Federation. Lorna is a mother of three
with a number of health issues, including Lupus, a tumor on her upper intestines, and two uterine
abrasions. When Lorna found out she was pregnant, she knew immediately that carrying another
pregnancy to term was not an option for her. She had hemorrhaged while giving birth to

Cinematic Arts Personal Statement Essay
Cinematic Arts Personal Statement I have been asked Where do you come from? many times, and still
I struggle to come up with a definite answer. It s usually one of the first introductory questions
someone asks and I always respond with my own set of questions. Do you mean where I was last?
California. Where I have lived the longest? Germany. Where I was born? Panama. . . . Oh, is that what
you meant? Calling myself a citizen of the world is not at all farfetched rather, it s an accurate
descriptor of who I am. My father has served in the United States Air Force for the past twenty years.

Some of my favorite times in Europe were when my family would hop into the car and drive off to a
city hours away, maybe even in the neighboring country. It never failed to astonish me how every city
was different from the last. There were always new sights to see, new cuisine to try, and different
happenings going on. If I had to name one thing I miss from my time in Europe, it would definitely be
the festivals. There was this one summer when I went to a wine festival with my mother. To get into
town, we walked through a wide, stone bridge that hovered over a large river. Across the lake where
the river poured into, a brown, centuries old castle stood proudly upon a hill and peered down at the
town. Stalls were set up on either side of the street and people surged through the market talking
animatedly and sharing laughs with their friends, usually with some form of food or drink in hand. A
brass band played close by and people of all ages paired up to dance to the music that resonated
throughout the town. With a bratwurst in hand, my mother and I strolled through town and looked at
the countless shops that lined the street. Even away from the stalls and music, on every street and back
alley, there were people buzzing with life and activity. The atmosphere was cozy, happy, and
welcoming. Even someone like me, who didn t speak the language, fit right in. [how is this

Explain why it is important to ensure children and young...
Ensuring children and young people s safety and welfare in the work setting is an essential part of
safeguarding. While children are at school, practitioners act in loco parentis while their parents are

duty of care to the children in their school, and therefore should always act in their best interests and

communicate and socialise with their peers, children from other age groups and other adults. They
need to feel safe and secure in their environment so that they feel able to speak to adults about any

good role models who can help them extend their decision making skills and develop independence

additional support to children who may have special educational needs. This may be through
individual sessions within the school, liaison with external services such as educational psychologists

The Relationship Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth Essay
The Relationship Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth face an extraordinary situation involving a strong supernatural theme and
murder and treason of the highest kind. However Shakespeare still cleverly manages to make Lady
Macbeth and Macbeth relate to audiences of all eras and to convey a strong moral message within his
play.
The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is fascinating to study. Shakespeare constantly
changes their attitude to each other throughout the play, making it hard to form a clear cut opinion of
their relationship. My personal opinion is that, although events in the play certainly draw Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth apart, their love for one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By letting his wife announce that they must kill Duncan, Macbeth is able to offload some of the guilt
of the deed onto her he uses Lady Macbeth as a scapegoat for his already guilty conscience. Upon
sending the letter Macbeth immediately goes to see his wife. In my opinion he does this so that Lady
Macbeth is ready to begin to override Macbeth s good characteristics immediately. When Macbeth
loses Lady Macbeth s support later on in the play he is forced to act independently of her, and so loses
the ability to murder. I feel that his actions throughout the play are an indication of Macbeth s
dependency on his wife, as well as his misuse of their love in order to claim the title of King. He refers
to Lady Macbeth as: [his] dearest partner of greatness showing that Macbeth envisages them sharing
the power of the throne.
In his soliloquy Macbeth admits that he has no spur To prick the sides of [his] intent which indicates
that Macbeth knows that he will require Lady Macbeth to be his spur , and coax him into murdering
Duncan. He also knows that by allowing Lady Macbeth to take up such a domineering role she will
take the murder out of his hands, thus freeing him from a great deal of guilt.
Upon receiving the letter, Lady Macbeth immediately responds to Macbeth s wishes, realising that

Racial Profiling And Native Americans
Racial Profiling and Native Americans

Introduction
When you hear the words police racial profiling your mind may automatically jump to images of
white cops stopping young black men in expensive cars, the Rodney King beatings, or even the Rev.
Al Sharpton giving a deposition about racial tensions. This is because those images are the hot button,
go to stories that media often bombards the six o clock news with. As Americans, we have seen so
much of these images that we tend to think that the racial divide is only black and white. However,
what if you were to be told that racial profiling is more than just white on black? There is a group of
Americans who face more racial discrimination than African Americans: Native Americans. Native
Americans are under represented as victims and over persecuted as offenders. This paper will attempt
to define the issue of racial profiling and how it affects Native Americans, provide a review of the
current research being done, and provide a brief interview that shows how this subject is viewed in
real world scenarios.
Definition
Racial discrimination is defined by Law.com as unequal treatment of persons, for a reason which has
nothing to do with legal rights or ability. Federal and state laws prohibit discrimination in many facets
of society. However, racial profiling by law enforcement is commonly defined as a practice that

Analysis Of The Hunger Games
In general, Stereotyping affect not only the youth of today but also other individuals. An individual
can be stereotyped based on race, skin color, class warfare or gender. The book, The Hunger Games,
which is now a well known movie, demonstrates how stereotyping can happen to any individual. In
The Hunger Games, Katniss is affected by stereotypes. Being a citizen from District 12, her
appearance and being a female affects the way the Capitol distinguishes her.
District 12 is the poorest district in Panem and everyone expects for the tributes to act as savages and
criminals. During the opening ceremonies, Katniss reminisces about the past tributes clothing. Since
District 12 s principal industry is coal mining, the past tributes have attended the opening ceremony
naked covered in black powder to represent coal dust or skimpy outfits and hats with headlamps (The
Hunger Games 66). District 12 tributes are judged by the Capitol and the stylist judged them based on
where they are from. The past stylists do not put any effort in designing their clothing since District 12
tributes already look worn out and dirty. Typically, everyone in the Capitol judges Katniss and Peeta
because they are from a poorer side of Panem.
By stereotyping, we infer that a person has a whole range of characteristics and abilities that we
assume all members of that group have. It leads to social categorization which is one of the reasons for
prejudice attitudes (Mclead). There are plenty of young

Issue 2: The fact that no one is tracking where the work is and who is supposed to be working on what
can lead to many problems. Some employees may be doing more work than others because they are
efficient and everything seems to land on their desk while others may be receiving credit for work
they are not doing. In the video we saw that Nick was tasked out with creating a process flow chart,
but he passed it on to someone else, and that some one pass it down to two more people. I believe in
fair and equal work between team members so they should break down the work prior to initiating any
task. There is nothing wrong with helping your teammates but not do the work for them. Passing work
like that can also lead to it getting misplaced. They should use a flow chart to track where the work is.
A Gantt chart or a document flow chart seem like a perfect fit for this occasion. The document flow
chart will trace the process flow chart document through the system to avoid it getting lost. Losing
information can also lead to

Krook is an illiterate man who owns a store in which he accumulates things. He lives in a world
saturated with archaic objects, as well as the court is saturated with piled up cases and archaic

justice system if its institutions continue in a state of paralysis. Krook s decay and contamination is
also protrayed through his house s description; once again, the places assume the characteristics of the

But if we considered it as a metaphor, we may agree that Krook s body imploded as a result of its
decay, therefore, the same thing could happen to the Court of Chancery: The Lord Chancellor of that

Filial Piety In Confucianism In Ancient China
Filial Piety in Confucianism A famous Chinese saying asks, if one does not have piety towards one s

Confucius taught filial piety as, the reverent respect of children toward their parents. (Ebrey,

society because it fit into the larger ethical system that he believed in. As the saying says, how can one

Analysis of Immanuel Kant s Arguements in The...
In the essay titled Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals published in the Morality and Moral
Controversies course textbook, Immanuel Kant argues that the view of the world and its laws is
structured by human concepts and categories, and the rationale of it is the source of morality which
depends upon belief in the existence of God. In Kant s work, categorical imperative was established in
order to have a standard rationale from where all moral requirements derive. Therefore, categorical
imperative is an obligation to act morally, out of duty and good will alone. In Immanuel Kant s writing
human reason and or rational are innate morals which are responsible for helping human. Needless to

Freedom of the will can never be disproven or proven because will is influenced by the force outside
of the human body and humans use reason to determine the law themselves. Rational people recognize
themselves as free according to the categorical imperative.
Though I found myself sometimes disagreeing with the philosophy by Immanuel Kant, I found his
subjective reasoning to be thought provoking. I was pulled by two different forces after Kant defined
happiness as the state of a rational being in the world in the whole of whose existence everything goes
according to his wish and will. This unconventional way of defining term of happiness strands away
from the definition of happiness written by philosopher in the name of John Stuart Mill. Mill defines
happiness as a state of maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain. In the writing, Immanuel argues that
possession of wealth, health, or bravery can be used for afflicted purposes and these characteristics
cannot be essentially good. To Kant, being worthy of happiness requires for one to possess a good
will. The genuine good is the only unconditional good which is connected to a good will. Disastrous
misfortunes can happen but the goodness of the will still remains. In this described above idea
Immanuel provides a concrete support. According to my interpretation of the author s idea and
supporting statements, each day my actions consequentially are moderately influenced by Kant s
philosophy. I also believe that

Comparing Parents In The Glass Menagerie By James Williams
My parents love to live vicariously through me, especially my mother, and while I understand their
inclination to do this, it can make them a bit controlling of my actions. Williams exhibits in The Glass
Menagerie the damaging effects of overbearing parents on the mental and emotional growth of their
children. In the play, the mother inhibits the development of her children because she tries to control
her children s lives, which takes away the ability to become independent and focus on personal needs.
Amanda treats Laura like a child and constantly makes decisions for her, and she and keeps him from
enjoying his life. Amanda belittles Laura s self ownership which makes Laura immature and helpless
as an adult. When the subject of gentleman callers comes up, Amanda addresses Laura, saying, How
many do you suppose we re going to entertain this afternoon? [...] [reappearing, airily] What? No one
not one? You must be joking! [Laura nervously echoes her laugh] (Williams 18). Amanda is caught up
in her dreams of marriage for Laura, made clear by her enthusiastic tone and body language, but Laura
s uncomfortable laugh shows how she is not amused by her mother s aspirations. Amanda is only
focused on what she wants for Laura, but she should really be concerned with what Laura wants for
herself. In addition, Amanda cannot accept the fact that her daughter is not going to have any suitors;
she denies reality and tries to bring Laura into her world of illusions. This irresponsible parenting
causes Laura to become the childish adult that she is. When Amanda questions where Laura was going
instead of business college, Laura explains that, I went in the art museum and the bird houses at the
Zoo. I visited the penguins every day! [...] Lately I ve been spending most of my afternoons in the
Jewel Box, that big glass house where they raise the tropical flowers (21). Laura is twenty three years
old and she is getting excited about visiting attractions meant for kids. She would rather explore the

mindset. This juvenile behavior is what leads to Laura s helplessness. While on the fire escape,

The subtlety of language acquisition has been the most...
The subtlety of language acquisition has been the most fundamental question in the study of
linguistics and human development. From Bow wow Theory to Yo He Ho Theory, the major theories
on language origins and learnability emerged at mid 20th century and has been heavily debated ever
since. Among them, the idea of universal grammar in which is usually credited to linguist Noam
Chomsky, remains the most notable and controversial theory over time. He introduced and developed
the t heory from 1950s to 1970s as he proposed and championed linguistic nativism in language

There are totally 5 stages in children language development. Preverbal stage refers to the crying of 0 6
months old infants. This is followed by the one word holophrastic stage in 7 12 months children where
they imitate vowels to communicate, i.e. da da for daddy. By adding gestures (e.g. pointing) and
intonation into their words, they can convey directions, spacious relations of the objects near them,
making it the third stage in language development. After 18 months, children enter the telegraphic
stage where they can use 2 word phrases to indicate their needs, for instance, Papa! Milk! which they
later enter the final stage: the multi word stage. In this stage, they make remarkable breakthrough in
language comprehension and speech. No matter what the first language that children are exposed to,
the majority of them stick to such linguistic developmental mechanism. With the support of other
generative linguists and data of 5000 to 6000 languages all over the world, Chomsky has proved that
despite their very different grammars, all of the languages are rooted with similar syntactic principles
and rules. This shows the universality of language acquisition. It is clear that there is some unique

Effective Leadership
There are multiple leadership styles and approaches to being an exceptional leader. Leadership has
several functions, but honest behavior versus dishonest behavior has its rewards and consequences. A
leader needs to possess the integrity to be effective for the long term in the corporate atmosphere. The
market conditions create ethical difficulties and create hurdles for leaders throughout decision making.
In the given synopsis, the AIG Company had guaranteed to pay bonuses to executives. But the
financial circumstances had negatively affected the business. Therefore, it would be impracticable to

about the importance of organizational goals, personal ethics, and business ethics. It is also better to
send them to ethical training programs so that they can become moral leaders and benefit the

A New Young Retired Military Vet
As a new young retired military vet, I often find myself thinking about my past. I sit and ponder my

Canada s Constitutional Issue Of Canada
For over fifty years, the status of Canada s constitution has been unable to fully unify, due to the fact
that Canada has been unable to address Quebec s constitutional concerns. Much of the ongoing debate
addresses if the Constitution should recognize the francophone population of Quebec as a separate
nation or a distinct society, with a separate laid out set of different characteristics and needs from the
rest of the provinces in Canada . An important question should be how Canada can best acknowledge,
preserve, protect and defend Quebec s language and culture. The central debate of this paper will
address the issue of how Quebec should handle the important issue of how it should address signing

Various previous attempts to reach an agreement have failed, as they have been unable to address
these issues. However, one of these agreements resulted in the implementation of a constitutional
amendment in which implemented the Canadian Bill of Rights that is commonly known as the
Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms. Secondly, this constitutional amendment allowed Canada to
make its own constitutional changes and not Great Britain. However, these major changes were made
without the consent of Quebec. The fact that these changes were made without Quebec means that a
quarter of Canada s population did not agree with the terms. It is simply unacceptable that the
Constitutional amendments made in 1982 made an effort to recognize and accommodate Canada s
multicultural and Aboriginal populations, yet do nothing in regards to accommodating the distinctive
character of Quebec.
Quebec was left out again in the debate for the Meech Lake Accord. Rather than make serious
attempts to recognize Quebec as a distinct society, too much time was spent in attempt to forge the
nation together. Had Meech Lake been successful, it would have respected Quebec s genuine wish to
be recognized as a distinct society. Meech Lake would have been able to forge universal language
rights because both official languages would receive the same amount of respect in Quebec as it does

The Women At The Tomb
The Women at the Tomb. (Lk. 24: 1 12) The Lucan account of the resurrection of Christ began with
the pericope of the Women at the Tomb This is the first of three resurrection stories that highlight the
resurrection of Christ In the first, two angels appear to the women telling the good news of a living
Christ (Luke 24:1 12) In the second is Jesus himself who delivers the message of the resurrection to
the two disciples who walk to Emmaus (24:13 35) And in the third periscope, Jesus appears to the
eleven disciples in Jerusalem (24:36 49) This chapter and the book ends with the story of the
ascension to heaven (24:50 53) This latter serves as epilogue and connection to the book of Acts of the
apostles, which is also written by the same author. Luke s style suggests that he used various sources
to write this pericope. The pericope occurs in all three gospels and even in John . It is situated after the
passion, and death of Jesus. The comparison reveals the following common details which build the
story: 1) the women go to the tomb to prepare Jesus body. 2) They go to the tomb the first day of the
week early in the morning. 3) They found the empty tomb. 4) They also found the angels who gave a
report. 5) It is followed by the response of the women. 6) They ran to look for the apostles and 7) the
apostles responded to the women s report. Darrel Bock says that only 17 of Luke s 169 terms are in
agreement with Mark. Luke s account complements the other Gospels giving

Abraham Lincoln Peoria Speech Summary
Abraham Lincoln was a great president that helped change the course of the united states. Some
people at the time would say for the better other for worse. With that people would call a him a racist,
someone who thinks that their own race is superior to another race. Or people would call him an
emancipator, someone who sets free from legal, political, or social restrictions. Lincoln was not a
racist, he was an emancipator for he freed the slaves. In his Peoria Speech, lincoln express his
disapproval of the Kansas Nebraska Act and how it ignored the issue with slavery. He even says that
his first impulse is to free the slaves, and called slavery an injustice and a betrayal to the republican
example. He then goes on to say that if blacks are people that they deserve equality due to the
Declaration of Independence. Along with that he say that it is not possible to be morally right and
enslave another man. With all this that Lincoln thought better of the slaves not as property but as
people and wanted slavery to stop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When the meeting happened, he explained to them that this would be a good idea and would benefit
both races. He told them that there would still be injustices against them and even though they would
be free they would not be equals. Lincoln says they are fortunate to have this opportunity and should
take it. The place he has planned for them is down in Central America by Panama. He says that there
is a lot of rich coal down there for them and is a good place to start a colony. Lincoln was looking out
for the blacks when he did this, he wanted the best for them and did not want them to be oppressed.

Human Spinal Deformities Using 3d Reconstruction Techniques
Literature Survey on Human Spinal Deformities using 3D Reconstruction Techniques
Introduction:
Spine and its deformities: Scoliosis is a complex three dimensional (3 D) deformation of the trunk that
requires orthopedic treatment in 5 out of 1000 persons [1]. It is described as a lateral deviation of the
spine (Fig. 1), combined with asymmetric deformation and axial rotation of the vertebrae, deformation
of the rib cage and possibly of the pelvis.
The human spine is divided into cervical (7 vertebrae C1 C7), thoracic (12 vertebrae Tl T12), and
lumbar (5 vertebrae L1 L5) sections above a fused sacrum (Fig. 2). While the spine normally has no
lateral curvature, there are normal side view curves including lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and
cervical lordosis. Scoliotic curves are considered thoracic when the apex lies between T2 and T11,
thoracolumbar at T12 L1, and lumbar from L2 L5. Each vertebra consists of an anterior weight
bearing vertebral body and posterior elements that protect the spinal cord and enable muscular and
ligamentous attachments (Fig. 3). Particularly in severe scoliotic curves, asymmetric loads on the
vertebrae encourage asymmetric growth of the vertebral elements, with one result being that despite a
substantial underlying spinal curve the spinous processes may deform to produce a relatively straight
line on the back surface. The spine, composed of vertebrae connected by fluid filled intervertebral
discs, is a loose and

According to Wickham (2006) process of growth model, MPM would be looking into financial growth
as the company focuses commercial activities such as profitability, sales and turnover. Besides,
strategic growth will be taken into account when competing with its competitors in its market industry
in creating or selling new products when compared with their competitors. After implementing the
theories in MPM, it helped me understand MPM s market analysis of rivalry among existing
competitors. Applying Churchill and Lewis model in MPM, it can be said that it is in between Stage
III: Success and Stage IV: Take off, as it has its own brand and have been sustained its business for
over 25 years (Churchill and Lewis, 1983). Over the years, MPM has expanded to more branches of
offices which shows that the company has attained economic health and has sufficient size to ensure
economic success. After applying frameworks and theories, it can be stated that in terms of growth in
a company, I have learnt that it can be applied and indicated differently in distinctive companies. To
exemplify, growth can mean increase in staff employment in a company whereas it can also mean
increase in production volume. However, it is clear that growth must be planned, organised, activated
and controlled (Nieman and Pretorius, 2004). In other words, growth can be either sustaining its
business in the industry or expanding its business. Having to explore

Hypertension Of Hypertension And Secondary Hypertension
Hypertension is defined as blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg on two or more blood pressure
readings taken at each of two or more visits after initial screening. There are two types of hypertension
which are the primary (essential) hypertension and secondary hypertension. Essential hypertension is
referred to patients with hypertension without any secondary identifiable cause. Secondary
hypertension has an identifiable cause, such as renal artery stenosis or pheochromocytoma, and is
managed as part of the primary condition (Papadakis, 2014).
The Joint National Committee published JNC 7 in 2003 which established different classification of
hypertension. According to JNC 7, blood pressure was considered normal when systolic was less than
120 mmHg and diastolic was less than 80 mmHg. The prehypertension range was systolic 120 139
mmHg or diastolic 80 89 mmHg. Stage 1 hypertension was categorized as systolic of 140 159 mmHg
or diastolic 90 99. Stage 2 hypertension was categorized as systolic greater than 160 mmHg or
diastolic greater than 100 mmHg (JNC 7, 2003).
Hypertension is a major medical problem in America with high morbidity and mortality. According to
Center for Disease Control statistics released on 2015, it is estimated that about 70 million American
adults have high blood pressure, with a ratio of 1 out of every 3 adults in America living with
hypertension (CDC, 2015). In 2012, CDC conducted a statistical analysis of data collected by National

Gardner believed that all human sexual paraphilias, such as pedophilia, sadism, rape, necrophilia,

In regards to women, Gardner argued that a woman s physiology and conditioning make[] them

Furthermore, Gardner blamed a father s sexual molestation of his child on the mother, who he
suggested was not satisfying the sexual needs of her husband, which resulted in him turning to his
child for sexual gratification. Gardner claimed that mothers, who alleged allegations of a child s
sexual abuse, where satisfying their own sexually inhibited needs by visualizing the child with their

David B. Truman Lobby Groups Essay
Lobby Groups
In this comparison between David B. Truman and V.O. Key, Jr. s views on lobby groups they have
different interpretations on role and interaction of these groups in government. In a democratic system
there is bound to be resentment and desire for change because it is impossible to satisfy everybody.
Truman and Key describe how those individuals try to be recognized while forming groups for
strength in numbers . In the comparison of interest and pressure groups it is apparent that although
they created resentment in the inner layers of government, they were necessary to the development
and progress of the political system.
According to David B. Truman in the excerpt from The Governmental Process he demonstrates ...

Truman states that the National Government and the State Legislatures take notice when the interest
groups consolidate and tend to accept compromises over common goals. When they are verified of an
increasing amount of support for a particular policy or deceit against it, they usually take action. In
this manner, the interest groups are beneficial to the government because their opinions were created
by an individual and therefore they give the government a greater ability to facilitate the lifestyle of
their citizens. The interest groups can be very misleading in their size because of their pressure to
convert and convince impressionable people. Truman believes that the formation of interest groups
and political parties was inevitable because we offered elections as a means of representation and also
in a large, complex, diverse society there will always be people who are longing for change.
From this section of Truman s work it shows that lobby groups were helpful in modifying the National
Government to perform at a more responsive level. The Government could not have survived based
solely on the impact of interest groups. They survived and thrived for power in a symbiotic
relationship benefiting both groups.
Even if the political parties are added to the list, the result could properly be designated as a view
which seems hardly compatible with the relative stability of

The Guidon Essay
The guidon, also referred to as the colours or the standard, is an important and time honored piece of
the military s history that is still observed and revered today. The guidon is thought to have originated
from ancient Egytptian times, where it was believed to have represented rulers and the armies they
commanded. The idea endured well into medieval European times as it was used to depict each
commanders specific coat of arms. This is so that each soldier could see through the dust and smoke
created from the battlefield where their particular regiment was located, so as not to be separated from
them. We still use guidons today, though maybe not for the same purpose or in the same situations,
mainly because of how advanced warfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, battle honors were added to the colours, which made them even more significant and were
revered even more by members of the regiment. The colours are never destroyed capriciously
anymore. When they get too old and worn out to be used or displayed as the uit standard, they are
moved to museums until they moulder into dust. However, in modern armies, if the colours are in
danger of being captured by the enemy, there are standing orders for them to be destroyed. It is for this
reason and the advent of modern weapons, and subsequent changes in tactics, colours are no longer
carried into battle. However, they are still used at formal events and ceremonies. The word guidon
derives from the Italian guidone meaning guide or marker and/or the Middle French corruption guyd
hommes, hence it is the focus for soldiers in battle. The significance of the guidon is that it represents
the unit and its commanding officer. When the commander is in, his or her guidon is displayed for
everyone to see. When he leaves for the day, the guidon is taken down. It is an honor, although
sometimes a dubious one, to be the guidon carrier for a unit, known as a guidon bearer or guide . He
or she stands in front of the unit alongside of the commander (or the commander s representative), and
is the rallying point for troops to fall into formation when the order is given. In drill and ceremonies
the guidon and commander are always in front of the formation.

Static Characters In Romeo And Juliet
In stories, readers often pay close attention to the protagonists and the antagonists of the story who are
often constantly changing due to natural character development. As readers, we often overlook the
stereotypical static character. Every story needs flat or static characters which create conflict involving
dynamic characters making them more important. Although this isn t exactly true in all stories, it isn t
uncommon for a novel to have a protagonist that is static. A static character, in this vocabulary, is one
that does not experience imperative change over the span of the story, remaining basically the same
toward the end as he or she was toward the start. An example of this is Romeo, from Shakespeare s
renown play Romeo and Juliet. If Romeo wasn t in the story, Juliet wouldn t have fallen in love with
Romeo. Juliet also wouldn t have died which would defeat the plot line and whole purpose of the
story. When identifying a character is static or dynamic, you have to look at the identity change
throughout the play. Some of Romeo s well known character traits are his impulsivity, immaturity, and
his sensitivity which the audience see throughout the duration of the novel which adds to the point that
he is a static character. We see some immaturity and sensitivity at the beginning of the play when
Romeo is upset because Rosaline rejected his love. Even when Benvolio and Mercutio try to help him
out of his glum, he refuses to believe that there is anyone more

The Rolling Stone Redaction.
The Rolling Stone Redaction was the mistake waiting to happen as a result of journalistic desperation
on the Rolling Stones part, as the once iron clad story s eggshell are torn asunder by the increasing
lack of verifiability. Only to reveal a viscous trail with no clear substance. As The Rolling Stone began
on this path, they put aside safeguards that would normally have sent the story to the bin, ignoring
conflicting information from the other sources and only focusing on the main. That is when they
gathered from other sources, as the paper has a distinct lack of transparency when it deals with the
testimony of other people, with most coming from the one source. Jackie, who as the facts stacked
toward and against, had discrepancies in her story tipping the scales away from believability, and into
fantastical dreams. A story can have one source that it draws heavily upon, however, there has to be
evidence to go along with it. In the aftermath with multiple sources coming up and stating facts
contrary to the story, there has to be the question of why Erdely did not contact them, which, while the
answer has its credible reasoning of not disturbing Jackie, the Rolling Stone should have reached them
for comment, as opposed to Jackie asking by proxy, adding a second hand account that could have and
was, utterly false. Prioritization also was an issue in this, while Erdely focused more on exposing the

The Argument of Dualism Essay
In my mind, dualism is a more attractive view to take when considering the mind brain issue. The idea
that the mind is a separate entity and that it is independent of the physical body is the central point of
dualism. One reason it appeals to me is because of my religion, my Catholic upbringing. Introspection
is another good reason why dualism is a little more logical to me than materialism.. It logically
explains why the mind and brain are separate. Also, the divisibility argument raises good points to
allow dualism to appear to be the more attractive idea in my eyes. Dualism claims that the mind is a
distinct nonphysical thing, a complete entity that is independent of any physical body to which it is
temporarily attached. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure the brain has the actual chemical processes and functions, but the mind holds the reasoning
behinds actions, and the complex feelings a person has. It is basically what makes a person who he is,
and controls his actions as a person. The brain only tells the body to carry out these actions. I think
that introspection is another good explanation for dualism being more attractive to me. Introspection
was explained to be a sort of mental state, like when you know you have a desire for something to eat.
If this occurs, one?s mind will tell his brain to make the body get up and get food to eat. I do not think
that the brain is capable of having that feeling of hunger, there might be a reaction in the brain to the
stomach being empty, but I believe the actual feeling is in the brain. A person has no way of knowing
the actual brain process, it can not be felt. That is an act that can only take place in one?s mind. The
actual wanting of food is going to be happening in the mind, not the brain. I think my mind is the focal
point of desires and other feelings, the brain is just a device which the mind uses to carry out its
wishes. A third argument for dualism is paranormal phenomena. Mental powers such as telepathy,
precognition, telekinesis, and clairvoyance are all near impossible to explain within the boundaries of
the physical brain. These phenomena reflect the nonphysical and supernatural nature

Symbolism In The Story Of An Hour
The 19th Century short story of Kate Chopin entitled The Story of an Hour , describes the story of a
young married woman who was suffering from heart disease, which made it difficult for her sister to
bring her the news of the death of her beloved husband, but instead of deep sorrow, Mrs. Mallards, our
Principal character in the story felt a beautiful sense of freedom and relief. However, her dreams and
illusion were shattered when she saw her husband coming from the door alive. Through the use of
character arc enriched by symbolism and iron, the author reflected in a dramatic way how a 19th
century woman appreciated her freedom and living her own life as something marvelous in
comparison of being married serving someone else s. The Story of an Hour is the epiphany of a young
married woman; her realization of how important is the self, its freedom and liberation.
Kate Chopin was known for her controversial writings and her cheers for women s freedom and rights.
During the 19th when she wrote this story, there wasn t what we know today as women rights. Women
were considered as a property, when married, the rights of woman were legally given over to her
spouse as all her physical and moral belongings which expropriate all kind of freedoms and liberties

Essay about Macroeconomics
You may have already studied microeconomics, which looks at supply, demand and prices for
individual goods. Macroeconomics looks at the bigger picture and involves the study of the economy
as a whole.
National income
Let us start by looking at a simple example a
two sector economy made up of households
(consumers) and firms (producers) and use this to develop the idea of national income. To start with
we will ignore the impact of government policy and overseas sectors.
Households ultimately own the factors of production, e.g., labour, materials and capital, and supply
these factors to firms who use them to produce goods and services. In return households earn rewards
for supplying the firms with the factors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model will use the following definitions: Consumption (C) consumption goods produced and
sold to customers i.e., the chairs.
Savings (S) income that is not spent on consumption. Investment (I) production of, or expenditure on,
non consumption goods (carried out by firms) including expenditure on increasing stocks of
consumption goods.
Injections expenditure on domestic output not originating from consumers e.g., investment.
Leakages income not spent on consumption of domestic output e.g., savings.
Consumers will not spend all their income on goods and services. They will also have savings income
not spent on consumption. Similarly producers will not just spend on producing goods but will also
carry out investment expenditure on non consumption goods.
There are therefore injections into (investment) and leakages from (savings) the circular flow.
These injections and leakages can now be added to the circular flow model (see Figure 2)
Figure 2
Notes to Figure 2
In this model the income earned by households (Y) must be equal to expenditure on purchasing
national product (E). Output of consumption goods by firms equals consumption expenditure by
household s (C). Note that households do not spend all their income instead they save (S) a leakage.
Expenditure on non consumption goods by firms is investment (I) an injection.
Income (Y) = Expenditure (E)

Gettysburg (Shaara 5). The crash involved two major groups, the Confederacy, and the Union. The
Confederacy constituted of seven secessionist states from the South who advocated for slavery while
the Union consisted of the northerners who advocated for the abolition of the slave trade and
recognition of black men as legitimate American citizens. The book widely covers the course of the
battle for the three primary days of the war, which were between 30th June 1863 and 2nd July 1863
(Shaara 32). According to the author, the Confederates are headed by General Robert E. Lee and
General James Longstreet. On their part, the Union army is spearheaded by General John Buford.
However, the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is considered as the worst battle in the American
Civil War as the two groups lost a significant number of their soldiers (Shaara 37). It is also clear that
the two groups had different reasons for participating in the war. Soldiers from the two sides also had
different motivations hence the morale and willingness to fight on despite the risk of death. The given
essay aims at elaborating on the main reasons why men from the two different groups

Heart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrad Imperialism
The Heart of Imperialism Joseph Conrad s literary work The Heart of Darkness displays criticism
upon imperialism and even places valid points that arise in today s contemporary society. This piece of
literature has a valid standpoint due to the author s background. The author s upbringing gave birth to
the story with vivid life experiences that were incorporated into the text. Joseph Conrad was able to
capture the nature of imperialism within his writing due to the intimate nature he had with the subject.
Although the writing may not have been initially viewed as a critical review on imperialism, the
critique is evident throughout the text and event applies to modern occurrences.

In placement of ivory is currency. Much of the wealth is held by the top percentage of the economy
while there is a massive fallout of those beneath. The pursuit of the acquiring of wealth leads to a
lower standard of morals especially when the circulation of such is quite limited. These false
perceptions of betterment of life and economic stability is a ruse and creates a perpetual downfall for
those that are not in proper lineage. The amount of currency and status, creates social barriers that
begin to separate the community. This ultimately leads to the views of a better or worse human beings

Red Glass Analysis
Looking Through the Red Glass Throughout Red Glass, by Laura Resau, the characters have to
overcome many changes. One character that changes dramatically is the main character, Sophie. At
the beginning of the novel, Sophie is introduced as a sheltered girl, terrified of the outside world.
Sophie experiences many things that influence her to become a young woman that is willing to
sacrifice her safety for the people she loves. She is influenced mostly by the antagonist, Angel. Angel
supports Sophie in ways that make her want to change herself. Sophie changes positively throughout
the story into a strong, fearless person, and Angel s love for her is what makes her capable of that
change. Sophie introduces herself in the story as a nerdy, outcasted teenage girl, I always thought of
myself as a free floating one celled amoeba, minding my own business. The other kids at school were
all parts of a larger organism. . . Not particularly noticed, definitely not appreciated, just an amoeba
swimming around aimlessly (9). Sophie feels as if she does not belong where she grew up, she has
always felt like she was on the outside. Her father, a drug dealer and felon, left her mother when she
was first born. Because of her extreme self esteem issues, Sophie blames herself for her father leaving.
She recalls what she believes happened when she was born, When Mom was a teenager, I started
making her belly fat. And then my dad left. And then I was born too soon. And he came back to get us.

Personal Responsibility For Ma s Success Essay
A number of factors contributed to Ma s success. It may be useful to start with some of the key
business principles he has vocalized and to refer to his background from there. His first principle
relates to his own personal responsibility for the consequences associated with his business decisions.
He has noted somewhat dramatically that if anyone has to go to jail as a result of following his
direction, he should be the first to go. He also stated during his IPO in New York that if shareholders
were unhappy, he would be willing to buy the company back from them. It is not clear whether this is
a realistic suggestion, but the sentiment is certainly rare. This sense of personal responsibility often
derives from starting in a position where one intimately knows all of his colleagues. This was the case
when Alibaba began.
Another of Ma s core principles has been to maintain a sense of direction. As the CEO is responsible
for setting the mission and the aim of a company, this job also entails expressing this to leading
management the company as a whole as well as setting in place the process to execute it. Looking
back, Ma has been instrumental in the company s continual innovation, acquisition and expansion.
This progress is reminiscent of clear task oriented goals.
Ma is careful to remind business leaders that a sense of modesty is helpful to the learning process. He
claimed he is always happy when he has a student who knows something he does not. This
willingness to learn

Gender Differences in Trifles Essay
Trifles by Susan Glaspell is a play that is largely based on stereotypes. The most prevalent one is the
inferiority of women over men, though the play also explores the differences between genders in
general. First of all, Glaspell largely examines the repression of women in the 1900s. Women were
highly looked down upon by men, and were seen mostly as housekeepers and child bearers, and were
definitely not seen as intelligent people. The women in this play prove that the stereotypes against
them are completely wrong. The men in this story are sent out to discover the details of a murder,
while the women come along to gather some things for Mrs. Wright, who was accused of killing her
husband. Throughout the play, the men mock the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They don t realize that the little things do matter in solving a case like this. By worrying over trifles
(655), as Mr. Hale puts it, the women end up finding out a lot more about the murder than the men do.
The gender differences in the play are obvious and important to the story. The men in this play exhibit
some traditional stereotypes of men during the time period, such that they were aggressive and self
centered. The women seem to be more cautious, intuitive and sensitive. These traits allow the women
to come a lot closer to figuring out the murder than the men do. At one point in the play the women
find a quilt that Mrs. Wright had been working on. Mrs. Hale asks Mrs. Peters, I wonder if she was
goin to quilt it or just knot it? (658). Just then the sheriff comes down the stairs and once again
ridicules the women for worrying about such little things. They wonder if she was going to quilt it or
just knot it! (658), he exclaims. This is actually an important piece of evidence in the story, as the
ladies find out later. They realize that she was extremely nervous about something while she was
sewing, because she usually sews so nice and even (658), but the piece she had been working on was
all over the place (658). Then, while looking around in the kitchen, and not even trying to find
anything out about the murder, the

  • 2. Canadas Shame Essay The infamous Harp (whitecoat) and Hooded (blueback) seal hunt photos have virtually disappeared from newspapers or television news. That does not mean that seal hunting in Canada has stopped. The mass killing of seals off Canada amp;#8217;s East Coast is commercial, cruel, and wasteful, yet despite furious outcry from Animal Rights activists the government is refusing to take notice. The cruelty of this extensive killing operation, which starts during the seals amp;#8217; birthing season, has been denounced for years as amp;#8220;Canada amp;#8217;s Shame. ; The senseless slaughter of seals springs from the profit they bring, the use of their pelts for coats, and other products. Seal pups are gathered up individually and incased in netting amp;#8211; somewhat like a bag of oranges. Dozens of baby seals in net bags are packed into wire cages and moved by helicopters to fur farms. After the pups molt, they are killed. Catching seals in nets unavoidably causes a slow and painful death for these beautiful mammals. Seals are mammals, warm blooded like the rest of us. There is nothing in place to protect them because under Canadian law, these mammals are legally considered to be fish! Perhaps that is why our government thinks so little about slaughtering these animals. Perhaps that is why the quotas have been set so high and why both the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland are now providing subsidies to entice more fishermen and sport hunters to kill seals. The Government of Canada is gambling that the public has forgotten about the cruel and bloody images of the Canadian seal hunt prior to 1984. The truth is, nothing has changed amp;#8220; amp;#8230;about 220 000 seal pups were killed in 1997 alone. ; And this statistic does not even take into account the thousands of mature seals being killed; it amp;#8217;s merely the estimated number of seal pups being massacred. The Right And Choice Of Abortion Yonathan D Nieto Villegas Mr. Fons English 2B May 19, 2017 The Right to Life or Choice The decision to end the life of someone without their own consent has caused great disruption among Americans. Before the civil rights movement, Americans idealized the idea that abortion was ultimately prohibited due to the fact that religion predominated the beliefs of the people. Now in a rapid changing liberal society, people are questioning if prohibiting a woman from aborting is denying her inalienable right of freedom as listed under the First Amendment. The right to abortion should be left in the hands of a woman s personal decision rather than being obligated to live with the results of something she never wanted. Abortion is the deliberate ... Therefore, the religions use this claim to enforce the fact that an abortion on whatever circumstance is the killing of a human being. These views of the Muslim religion relate to the central idea that the killing of a organism at any given time during the pregnancy is unethical and forbidden. In essence, the idea of abortion has predominated as a wrongful sin according to religion and science. On the other hand, there are people who suggest that the idea to be obligated to have a child is a form of inhumanity in itself, as it robs the person of an unalienable right, the right to choose. In the tragic testimony given by Lorna, she presents to the world her story on how live changing the ability to abort can be. This testimony was presented by the National Abortion Federation. If I had to name one thing I miss from my time in Europe, it would definitely be the festivals. There was this one summer when I went to a wine festival with my mother. To get into town, we walked through a wide, stone bridge that hovered over a large river. Across the lake where the river poured into, a brown, centuries old castle stood proudly upon a hill and peered down at the town. Stalls were set up on either side of the street and people surged through the market talking animatedly and sharing laughs with their friends, usually with some form of food or drink in hand. A brass band played close by and people of all ages paired up to dance to the music that resonated throughout the town. With a bratwurst in hand, my mother and I strolled through town and looked at the countless shops that lined the street. An individual can be stereotyped based on race, skin color, class warfare or gender. The book, The Hunger Games, which is now a well known movie, demonstrates how stereotyping can happen to any individual. In The Hunger Games, Katniss is affected by stereotypes. Being a citizen from District 12, her appearance and being a female affects the way the Capitol distinguishes her. District 12 is the poorest district in Panem and everyone expects for the tributes to act as savages and criminals. During the opening ceremonies, Katniss reminisces about the past tributes clothing. Since District 12 s principal industry is coal mining, the past tributes have attended the opening ceremony naked covered in black powder to represent coal dust or skimpy outfits and hats with headlamps (The Hunger Games 66). District 12 tributes are judged by the Capitol and the stylist judged them based on where they are from. The past stylists do not put any effort in designing their clothing since District 12 tributes already look worn out and dirty. Typically, everyone in the Capitol judges Katniss and Peeta because they are from a poorer side of Panem. Much of the ongoing debate addresses if the Constitution should recognize the francophone population of Quebec as a separate nation or a distinct society, with a separate laid out set of different characteristics and needs from the rest of the provinces in Canada . An important question should be how Canada can best acknowledge, preserve, protect and defend Quebec s language and culture. However, one of these agreements resulted in the implementation of a constitutional amendment in which implemented the Canadian Bill of Rights that is commonly known as the Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms. Secondly, this constitutional amendment allowed Canada to make its own constitutional changes and not Great Britain. However, these major changes were made without the consent of Quebec. The fact that these changes were made without Quebec means that a quarter of Canada s population did not agree with the terms. It is simply unacceptable that the Constitutional amendments made in 1982 made an effort to recognize and accommodate Canada s multicultural and Aboriginal populations, yet do nothing in regards to accommodating the distinctive character of Quebec. Quebec was left out again in the debate for the Meech Lake Accord. Rather than make serious attempts to recognize Quebec as a distinct society, too much time was spent in attempt to forge the nation together. (Lk. 24: 1 12) The Lucan account of the resurrection of Christ began with the pericope of the Women at the Tomb This is the first of three resurrection stories that highlight the resurrection of Christ In the first, two angels appear to the women telling the good news of a living Christ (Luke 24:1 12) In the second is Jesus himself who delivers the message of the resurrection to the two disciples who walk to Emmaus (24:13 35) And in the third periscope, Jesus appears to the eleven disciples in Jerusalem (24:36 49) This chapter and the book ends with the story of the ascension to heaven (24:50 53) This latter serves as epilogue and connection to the book of Acts of the apostles, which is also written by the same author. Luke s style suggests that he used various sources to write this pericope. The pericope occurs in all three gospels and even in John . It is situated after the passion, and death of Jesus. The comparison reveals the following common details which build the story: 1) the women go to the tomb to prepare Jesus body. 2) They go to the tomb the first day of the week early in the morning. 3) They found the empty tomb. 4) They also found the angels who gave a report. 5) It is followed by the response of the women. 6) They ran to look for the apostles and 7) the apostles responded to the women s report. • 26. Human Spinal Deformities Using 3d Reconstruction Techniques Literature Survey on Human Spinal Deformities using 3D Reconstruction Techniques Introduction: Spine and its deformities: Scoliosis is a complex three dimensional (3 D) deformation of the trunk that requires orthopedic treatment in 5 out of 1000 persons [1]. It is described as a lateral deviation of the spine (Fig. 1), combined with asymmetric deformation and axial rotation of the vertebrae, deformation of the rib cage and possibly of the pelvis. The human spine is divided into cervical (7 vertebrae C1 C7), thoracic (12 vertebrae Tl T12), and lumbar (5 vertebrae L1 L5) sections above a fused sacrum (Fig. 2). While the spine normally has no lateral curvature, there are normal side view curves including lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and cervical lordosis. Scoliotic curves are considered thoracic when the apex lies between T2 and T11, thoracolumbar at T12 L1, and lumbar from L2 L5. Each vertebra consists of an anterior weight bearing vertebral body and posterior elements that protect the spinal cord and enable muscular and ligamentous attachments (Fig. 3). Particularly in severe scoliotic curves, asymmetric loads on the vertebrae encourage asymmetric growth of the vertebral elements, with one result being that despite a substantial underlying spinal curve the spinous processes may deform to produce a relatively straight line on the back surface. The spine, composed of vertebrae connected by fluid filled intervertebral discs, is a loose and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Hypertension Of Hypertension And Secondary Hypertension Hypertension is defined as blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg on two or more blood pressure readings taken at each of two or more visits after initial screening. There are two types of hypertension which are the primary (essential) hypertension and secondary hypertension. Essential hypertension is referred to patients with hypertension without any secondary identifiable cause. Secondary hypertension has an identifiable cause, such as renal artery stenosis or pheochromocytoma, and is managed as part of the primary condition (Papadakis, 2014). The Joint National Committee published JNC 7 in 2003 which established different classification of hypertension. According to JNC 7, blood pressure was considered normal when systolic was less than 120 mmHg and diastolic was less than 80 mmHg. The prehypertension range was systolic 120 139 mmHg or diastolic 80 89 mmHg. Stage 1 hypertension was categorized as systolic of 140 159 mmHg or diastolic 90 99. Stage 2 hypertension was categorized as systolic greater than 160 mmHg or diastolic greater than 100 mmHg (JNC 7, 2003). Hypertension is a major medical problem in America with high morbidity and mortality. According to Center for Disease Control statistics released on 2015, it is estimated that about 70 million American adults have high blood pressure, with a ratio of 1 out of every 3 adults in America living with hypertension (CDC, 2015). Truman and Key describe how those individuals try to be recognized while forming groups for strength in numbers . When they are verified of an increasing amount of support for a particular policy or deceit against it, they usually take action. The interest groups can be very misleading in their size because of their pressure to convert and convince impressionable people. Truman believes that the formation of interest groups and political parties was inevitable because we offered elections as a means of representation and also in a large, complex, diverse society there will always be people who are longing for change. From this section of Truman s work it shows that lobby groups were helpful in modifying the National Government to perform at a more responsive level. The guidon is thought to have originated from ancient Egytptian times, where it was believed to have represented rulers and the armies they commanded. The idea endured well into medieval European times as it was used to depict each commanders specific coat of arms. This is so that each soldier could see through the dust and smoke created from the battlefield where their particular regiment was located, so as not to be separated from them. Later, battle honors were added to the colours, which made them even more significant and were revered even more by members of the regiment. The colours are never destroyed capriciously anymore. When they get too old and worn out to be used or displayed as the uit standard, they are moved to museums until they moulder into dust. However, in modern armies, if the colours are in danger of being captured by the enemy, there are standing orders for them to be destroyed. It is for this reason and the advent of modern weapons, and subsequent changes in tactics, colours are no longer carried into battle. However, they are still used at formal events and ceremonies. The word guidon derives from the Italian guidone meaning guide or marker and/or the Middle French corruption guyd hommes, hence it is the focus for soldiers in battle. The significance of the guidon is that it represents the unit and its commanding officer. When the commander is in, his or her guidon is displayed for everyone to see. When he leaves for the day, the guidon is taken down. It is an honor, although sometimes a dubious one, to be the guidon carrier for a unit, known as a guidon bearer or guide . • 33. Static Characters In Romeo And Juliet In stories, readers often pay close attention to the protagonists and the antagonists of the story who are often constantly changing due to natural character development. As readers, we often overlook the stereotypical static character. Every story needs flat or static characters which create conflict involving dynamic characters making them more important. Although this isn t exactly true in all stories, it isn t uncommon for a novel to have a protagonist that is static. A static character, in this vocabulary, is one that does not experience imperative change over the span of the story, remaining basically the same toward the end as he or she was toward the start. An example of this is Romeo, from Shakespeare s renown play Romeo and Juliet. If Romeo wasn t in the story, Juliet wouldn t have fallen in love with Romeo. Juliet also wouldn t have died which would defeat the plot line and whole purpose of the story. When identifying a character is static or dynamic, you have to look at the identity change throughout the play. Some of Romeo s well known character traits are his impulsivity, immaturity, and his sensitivity which the audience see throughout the duration of the novel which adds to the point that he is a static character. We see some immaturity and sensitivity at the beginning of the play when Romeo is upset because Rosaline rejected his love. As The Rolling Stone began on this path, they put aside safeguards that would normally have sent the story to the bin, ignoring conflicting information from the other sources and only focusing on the main. The idea that the mind is a separate entity and that it is independent of the physical body is the central point of dualism. One reason it appeals to me is because of my religion, my Catholic upbringing. Introspection is another good reason why dualism is a little more logical to me than materialism.. It logically explains why the mind and brain are separate. Also, the divisibility argument raises good points to allow dualism to appear to be the more attractive idea in my eyes. Dualism claims that the mind is a distinct nonphysical thing, a complete entity that is independent of any physical body to which it is temporarily attached. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sure the brain has the actual chemical processes and functions, but the mind holds the reasoning behinds actions, and the complex feelings a person has. It is basically what makes a person who he is, and controls his actions as a person. The brain only tells the body to carry out these actions. I think that introspection is another good explanation for dualism being more attractive to me. Introspection was explained to be a sort of mental state, like when you know you have a desire for something to eat. If this occurs, one?s mind will tell his brain to make the body get up and get food to eat. I do not think that the brain is capable of having that feeling of hunger, there might be a reaction in the brain to the stomach being empty, but I believe the actual feeling is in the brain. A person has no way of knowing the actual brain process, it can not be felt. That is an act that can only take place in one?s mind. The actual wanting of food is going to be happening in the mind, not the brain. I think my mind is the focal point of desires and other feelings, the brain is just a device which the mind uses to carry out its wishes. A third argument for dualism is paranormal phenomena. To start with we will ignore the impact of government policy and overseas sectors. The book has gained popularity among American citizens as it covers one of the deadliest battles in American history that took place at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, hence the title of the battle of Gettysburg (Shaara 5). The crash involved two major groups, the Confederacy, and the Union. The Confederacy constituted of seven secessionist states from the South who advocated for slavery while the Union consisted of the northerners who advocated for the abolition of the slave trade and recognition of black men as legitimate American citizens. The book widely covers the course of the battle for the three primary days of the war, which were between 30th June 1863 and 2nd July 1863 (Shaara 32). According to the author, the Confederates are headed by General Robert E. Lee and General James Longstreet. On their part, the Union army is spearheaded by General John Buford. However, the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is considered as the worst battle in the American Civil War as the two groups lost a significant number of their soldiers (Shaara 37). One character that changes dramatically is the main character, Sophie. At the beginning of the novel, Sophie is introduced as a sheltered girl, terrified of the outside world. • 41. Personal Responsibility For Ma s Success Essay A number of factors contributed to Ma s success. It may be useful to start with some of the key business principles he has vocalized and to refer to his background from there. His first principle relates to his own personal responsibility for the consequences associated with his business decisions. He has noted somewhat dramatically that if anyone has to go to jail as a result of following his direction, he should be the first to go. He also stated during his IPO in New York that if shareholders were unhappy, he would be willing to buy the company back from them. It is not clear whether this is a realistic suggestion, but the sentiment is certainly rare. This sense of personal responsibility often derives from starting in a position where one intimately knows all of his colleagues. This was the case when Alibaba began. Another of Ma s core principles has been to maintain a sense of direction. As the CEO is responsible for setting the mission and the aim of a company, this job also entails expressing this to leading management the company as a whole as well as setting in place the process to execute it. Looking back, Ma has been instrumental in the company s continual innovation, acquisition and expansion. This progress is reminiscent of clear task oriented goals. Ma is careful to remind business leaders that a sense of modesty is helpful to the learning process. He claimed he is always happy when he has a student who knows something he does not. This willingness to learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Gender Differences in Trifles Essay Trifles by Susan Glaspell is a play that is largely based on stereotypes. The most prevalent one is the inferiority of women over men, though the play also explores the differences between genders in general. First of all, Glaspell largely examines the repression of women in the 1900s. Women were highly looked down upon by men, and were seen mostly as housekeepers and child bearers, and were definitely not seen as intelligent people. The women in this play prove that the stereotypes against them are completely wrong. The men in this story are sent out to discover the details of a murder, while the women come along to gather some things for Mrs. Wright, who was accused of killing her husband. Throughout the play, the men mock the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They don t realize that the little things do matter in solving a case like this. By worrying over trifles (655), as Mr. Hale puts it, the women end up finding out a lot more about the murder than the men do. The gender differences in the play are obvious and important to the story. The men in this play exhibit some traditional stereotypes of men during the time period, such that they were aggressive and self centered. The women seem to be more cautious, intuitive and sensitive. These traits allow the women to come a lot closer to figuring out the murder than the men do. At one point in the play the women find a quilt that Mrs. Wright had been working on. Mrs. Hale asks Mrs. Peters, I wonder if she was goin to quilt it or just knot it? (658). Just then the sheriff comes down the stairs and once again ridicules the women for worrying about such little things. They wonder if she was going to quilt it or just knot it! (658), he exclaims. This is actually an important piece of evidence in the story, as the ladies find out later. They realize that she was extremely nervous about something while she was sewing, because she usually sews so nice and even (658), but the piece she had been working on was all over the place (658). Then, while looking around in the kitchen, and not even trying to find anything out about the murder, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
