What Does The Clock Symbolize In The Great Gatsby
My new cover for the novel, The Great Gatsby touches on the most relevant symbols being, Dr. T. J.
Eckleburg s eyes, clocks, stars, and the green light at the end of the Buchanan s dock. Dr. T. J.
Eckleburg s haunting eyes are depicted as being painted on a fading old billboard overlooking the
Valley of Ashes. This pair of blue eyes staring down on the people below blatantly symbolize god
looking down onto american society. The placement of the billboard in the Valley of Ashes can be
seen as God looking down on the poor workers covered in coal dust. These eyes watching over the
poor s conditions means that as God looks down on the dirty circumstances but does nothing to free
these people of hard labor. Therefore it can be inferred that god watches over the poor far more
intensely than he does the upper class who are free to do as they please outside of God s gaze. ... Show

Naturally, clocks continue to move forward endlessly to depict an ever increasing sense of time. The
most important mentioning of a clock in the piece is sitting on Nick s mantle piece. However, this
clock has been broken and therefore relays Gatsby s desperation to turn back time. Gatsby then
proceeds to knock this clock off of the mantleplace and catch it, symbolizing his lost time, referring to
how the couple s time apart has in his eyes, altered Daisy in the worst possible way. This lost time is
one of the main reasons for Gatsby s demise as he couldn t accept Daisy s personality over his
objectifying and idealized memory of

Network Management in Big Data
In day today world social media and social networking has received much attention from every
people, like almost everyone has a Facebook account. This is where huge amount of data is being
processed every day, in fact every second where Social networks accounts for large amount of
consumer big data . The average global Internet user spends two and a half hours daily on social
media, in this scenario just consider how much data is being generated every minute by every user.
The leading social networking sites are handling this big data in efficient way, when it reaches a

Schedule computation or schedule communication helps to optimize utilization and keep running time
low. Several works propose to improve job scheduling by preserving data locality maintaining fair
allocation among multiple resource types or discarding time consuming tasks. Even with optimal
computation scheduling, the cluster network can still become a blockage. The optimization of network
transfers can be done by improving the flow bandwidth allocation or by dynamically changing paths in
response to demand. These approaches need accurate and timely application demand information,
obtained either from the application itself through instrumentation, which is quick and accurate but
intrusive, or from the network through monitoring , which does not require application involvement,
but can be expensive, slow, and detects changes in demand only after they have occurred.
FlowComb also uses MapReduce framework to influence the design of the system. MapReduce
provides a divide and conquer data processing model, where large workloads are split into smaller
tasks, each processed by a single server in a cluster (the map phase). The results of each task are sent
over the cluster network (the shuffle phase) and merged to obtain the final result (the reduce phase).
The network footprint of a MapReduce job consists pre dominantly of traffic sent during the shuffle

Writing An Article On Wikipedia Essay
Despite the popular belief, writing an article on Wikipedia is subject to several rules. For example,
before creating a page for a new article and a new topic, you have to make sure that the subject you
tackled is either popular enough or old enough to be published. Yet there are some exceptions to this
rule. It is the case for sudden events such as November 2015 Paris attacks that took place few days
ago but already have a Wikipedia page.i Notability is not the only criterion to take into account before
knowing if your article can be published or not. You also have to follow some basic rules such as
avoiding plagiarism or always cite your sources at the end of the article. Moreover as an author you
have to remain as neutral as possible. One of Wikipedia s goal is to provide information without any
biased point of view or personal statement. Maybe the two most important and famous pillars of
Wikipedia are the fact that it is free to use and licence free. Anyone can publish, edit or use a
Wikipedia article as long as one follows the rules mentioned earlier.ii Without a doubt, Wikipedia is a
website that you can use from time to time to find some pieces of information about various subjects.
Since it is an open website it covers a very wide spectrum of topics. One of the drawbacks of it being
open is that its content is not 100% reliable. That is the reason why to write an essay it is better to
avoid the use of this website. However some parts of articles cannot be edited

How Did The Right Of The Government Change The Power Of...
The world is always changing, people, ideas, and new rules. The way people think and what they want
in life change as they age and as new progress is made. Therefor, government should be changed when
its ideals no longer aline with that of the peoples. The right of the government to rule over people
should come from the people s approval. If people do not agree with their government they have the
right to change their government. This right has changed history all over the world. Without this right
the power of the government may be in the hands of a single ruler or monarch who has no interest in
their people s wants or needs, and when this power falls into the wrong hands the people of a country
have the right to take this power away and end the trynary in their country and give power to a more
well suited government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been many instances in history where the people have successfully caused a change in
their government. The Declaration of Independence calls on this right when they broke away from
England and formed their own government. England has also used the right to alter government when
dethroning king Charles I during the English Civil War. Charles s belief of absolute power in a sole
monarch was countered by Parliament, who won the war, wanting to rule over the English
government. Giving Parliament the power to rule over the English government was a great change to
how the country was ruled, and creating the Commonwealth of England. These are not the only
instances in which the people s power to alter the government has changed history forever, but they
are two times the people have changed their country

The Death Of A Shoemaker And The Tea Party By Alfred F....
The American Revolution, today, is seen as a memorable event in history. It was a war against Britain
for the independence of the thirteen colonies that began in 1775. Before the American Revolution
began, there was a lot of conflict between the colonists and British authorities. The British raised
revenue by establishing Acts such as the Stamp Act of 1766. The colonists were against it and tried
revolting against Britain, leading to the Boston Massacre in 1770 of British soldiers shoot colonists
and killing a few men. The colonists also retaliated against the taxations by dressing up as Indians and
throwing tea into the ocean. Parliament began establishing acts known as the intolerable acts, which
led to the revolution. In The Shoemaker and the Tea Party by Alfred F. Young, the author introduces
and describes the life of a shoemaker, George Robert Twelves Hewes, and the events he was a part of
leading up to and after the American Revolution. He shows the different meanings of the Revolution
to people according to their perspective and view on society. The Excerpt from Accounts of George
Robert Twelves Hewes as Told to James Hawkes by James Hawkes is a secondary source of what
Hewes has told Hawkes about his memories of the Boston Massacre. Michael D. Hattem, however,
gives a more contemporary view on the American Revolution in his article, The Historiography of the
American Revolution. Though the course of history, the meaning of the American Revolution and the

Summary Of Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic
Just because we can t share sell shares in nature doesn t mean it has no value (Thomas Friedman).
Planet Earth, as we all know, is an astonishingly complex and delicate network of dependent systems
that have developed gradually over the past 4.6 billion years or so. Slowly, structured elements we
refer to as nature evolved into significant components of the earth. Ironically, humans with their
notably shorter period on earth have come to dominate and manipulate the landscape to the point of
environmental degradation. Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic addresses this issue by challenging the way
humans look at nature and its resources. He insists on the practice of moral responsibility to land by
enlarging the boundaries of our community alongside elements like animals, plants, and ecosystems
(Leopold, Land Ethic ) Leopold appeals to emotion by showcasing the real value that lies within
nature and its beauty rather than the economic value that creates only selfishness in individuals.
Virginia Woolf is also able to emotionally engage readers in her essay Death of a Moth by depicting
the real struggle between life and death with a Moth s struggle for survival that ultimately ends with
death. With her implementation of rhetorical devices, she s able to provoke a sense of pity and
emotional connection towards the animal. By looking at Woolf s essay through Leopold s Land of
Ethic, the ability to see nature as an equal member of our community rather than that of inferiority

Sample Bibliography On Uniform Resource Locator
Have you ever wondered that how would your mail and visitors would reach your home without your
address? It is impossible to find a person without an address. Similarly on the Internet you will require
an URL to locate a website. URL is short for Uniform Resource Locator. It is a global address for
documents and websites on the World Wide Web.
URL is a specific type of URI (Uniform Resource Identifier). The general format of URL looks like
scheme:[//[user:password@]domain[:port]][/]path[?query][#fragment]
The first part of an URL is scheme. Protocols like http, https, ftp, mailto, file and data that are
registered with the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) are used in the scheme. This part of
the URL determines that the website should be accessed by using which protocol and what port. The
accessing computer should have access to the website and the particular port (for e.g. Port 80 for
HTTP) must be open. The double (//) forward slashes are optional. Then comes the username and
password pair with @ which is required to access the domain s backend using ftp protocol and you
need user credentials to access. Domain name is like the name for this site. On the World Wide Web
each computer has unique IP, and in order to access this computer or the data in that computer we
would have to know its IP to establish a connection with this machine. However remembering an IP
address (i.e. 192.168.0.1) is not easy so this IP addresses are linked with domain names which are

Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples
Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have
gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of
the play occurred. This allows the film director s interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the
audience s understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director.
One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. The film work of Hamlet
orchestrated by the director really focuses on being exactly as the written play by William
Shakespeare. The written work of Hamlet and the movie directed by Franco Zeffirelli have many
similar scenes. Act I Scene V is one of the most important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In movie version of Hamlet there is a lot of emphasis put into the feelings Hamlet has towards his
mother. During the movie, there is lot of physical presence shown on screen when Hamlet and his
Gertrude begin to argue. The interpretation of Franco Zeffirelli propose that further plot development
due to the fact that Hamlet s character is being given more internal conflict to overcome, which also
connects to the hypothesis that Gibson s Hamlet is stronger, both physically and mentally, in
comparison to the original Hamlet.
Also, Gibson s Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because
everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger than one would imagine them from Shakespeare s
original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the heavy headed revel that
causes other nations to clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase (Hamlet I.iv.21 23). Shakespeare s
Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his
excessive drinking and partying. However, Gibson s Hamlet shows an efficiently operating town with
broken barriers between social classes and small gardens and farms. In the original Hamlet not a lot of
information is given about the general public, but what is known is that Hamlet does not mix with
paupers except for the traveling theater group. The two pictures of Hamlet s world are very different

Andy Warhol s Influence On Our Culture
Have you ever wondered how pop art has influenced our culture? Well this paper will spread light on
just how influential Andy Warhol and his artwork has been. Pop art emerged in the late 1950s in the
United States (Artspace editors 2013). It was something that engaged aspects of mass culture such as
advertising, comic books, and clothing. Andy Warhol was the father of pop art; he has not only
influenced what we wear and see, but he has influenced the art world as well. There are many forms of
pop art but one thing they all have in common is the interest in mass media, and mass culture
(McCorquodale, 2015). Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. When
he was at the age of 8 he contracted chorea (Brown, 2015). A Disease that causes involuntary,
unpredictable body movements, so Warhol was confined to bed. During his recovery he was taught to
draw by his mother (Brown, 2015). He developed a love for drawing, and he started to draw in his
spare time. As soon as he got healthy he decided to take up photography. He went on to graduate high
school and enroll in Carnegie Institute of Technology where he studied commercial art (Brown, 2015).
Soon after in 1961 Warhol revealed the concept of pop art. He showcased an art peace that focused on
mass produced commercial goods. It was an art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

spend 17 billion each year on advertisements (Skricki Schlachtmeyer, 2013). It s a huge industry that

Such as poster boards of an iconic symbols such as an Apple logo or a Coca Cola can. We see a lot of
advertisements, but now when someone sees a poster board of a coke can him or her can think of pop

The Martian Chronicles
The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction book and was written in 1946. This
major work by Bradbury is a collection of short stories relating to Mars or Martians. Bradbury had a
clear vision of the Mars in which these stories are set. His vision was one of a fantasy world from the
Martians point of view. In this work, the humans from Earth are the aliens from outer space. Bradbury
has won many awards including the O. Henry Memorial Award, the Benjamin Franklin Award, the

In his ninth story, The Locusts ;, Ray Bradbury uses similies to envoke a response from the reader. He
makes the many rockets that are landing on Mars to be just like locusts, swarming over a concentrated
area and destroying it. And from the rockets ran men with hammers in their hands to beat the strange
world into a shape that was familiar to the eye, to bludgeon away all the strangeness, their mouths
fringed with nails so they resembled steel toothed carnivores, spitting them into their swift hands as
they hammered up frame cottages and scuttled over roofs with shingles to blot out the eerie stars, and
fit green shades to pull against the night. ; The reader sees from the similies that the rockets were
overwhelming to the Martians and they were only pests, they did not help.
Another theme Bradbury uses to gain the reader s attention is time travel. In his tenth story in The
Martian Chronicles, Night Meeting ;, Bradbury uses time travel to convey more of his ideas of Mars.
There was a smell of Time in the air tonight. He smiled and turned the fancy in his mind. There was a
thought. What did Time smell like? Like dust and clocks and people? ; Bradbury uses all of man s
senses to express his feelings of what exactly Time is. By doing so, the reader has a clearer
understanding of Bradbury s point of view. He

A Day in the Mind of George W. Bush
I am writing to request that you vote for H.J.RES.114: Authorization for Use of Military Force Against
Iraq Resolution of 2002 (Hastert). This resolution will ensure American national security and
prioritizing the states overseas assets by deploying troops to rid Iraq of weapons of mass destruction
and to bring forth democracy to the Iraqi people. I wholeheartedly support your voting record, and as
the representative of the American people of the Nation s capitol, I believe your vote is especially
symbolic.
Many in the international community are against American military intervention on Iraqi soil. They
suggest that we either send in United Nations investigators to find out more about the weapons of
mass destruction or work with other countries to establish some sort of sanctions. But I know there is
no time to waste and I must immediately deploy three hundred thousand troops to be able to declare
Mission Accomplish as soon as possible and with limited American and Iraqi casualties. Others say
that we should do nothing on the basis that invading another country is destructive of human life, costs
substantial amounts of money, undermines our moral authority, could ruin our international reputation,
and violates the sovereignty of Iraq. We the United States and me myself, George W. Bush, lead this
so called Free World and have the duty to intervene and the right to protect the American peoples
interest for global issues.

The Squire s Tale
Because The Squire s Tale from Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales is incomplete, the romantic idea of
life and love are the prominent themes of the limited story. The interruption of the tale leads more to
assumptions than accurate analysis.
A Fantastical Tale
This story begins in a foreign location, introduces a mysterious guest, and describes magical items.
How does this not sound like the beginning of a fantasy story along the lines of Lord of the Rings?
Instead, it is the imaginative tale of the Squire from Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The Squire is a
young man who is an apprentice to his father, a knight. His fantastical tale is set in the land of Tartary
and is filled with hope. His tale begins as an optimistic story about love.
The Squire never finishes his story. He is interrupted by another member of the travelling group and is
not given an opportunity to return to it. The Squire receives praise for what he has told up to the point

He provides this romantic backdrop to tell his tale about love. Unfortunately, the theme of love only
develops between the female falcon and Canace. Had the Squire been permitted to continue his story,
he would have added to his tale and allowed for further development of this theme. He does note that
the remainder of his story would have explained how the children of the king could have found the
loves of their lives.
As it remains a truncated story, what does the Squire tell about love? He notes that despite our feelings
of love, they may not be shared by our partner, as the female falcon learns. It is a powerful feeling and
can lead to deep emotional pain. Canace shows that this pain does heal, and we are then able to go
forth and experience it again. It is a feeling that should be cherished and nurtured, despite there being
no assurances that it will last

A Passage to India
A Passage to India entails various social criticisms and political matters that are among the human
race. The setting of the story takes place in India where the British have colonized the city of

thought they were the original inhabitants.
Miss Quested and Mrs. Moore begin their passage to India in order to attend the marriage of Miss

Thus began their passage into India.
Not to far along, a party is planned for Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested. A few native Indians are
invited. The party turns out to be a flop. The British and the natives separate themselves from each
other and nobody communicates to one another. Similar to the small dances we use to have as kids.
The girls would sit on one side of the room and the boys on the other and no one with enough courage
to ask the opposite sex to dance.
Shortly after this disastrous party, Dr. Fielding, principal of the College, invites the ladies to his house
for tea. Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested insist Dr. Aziz and Professor Godbole attend. The small
intimate party is successful. Both cultures came together. It brought joy to Dr. Aziz that he was able to
find unity with the British. With the positive results of this first encounter of the two different cultures,
Dr. Aziz believed that only more good things could come of the integration. He invited the entire
group to a trip to the Marabar Caves where he could show the British a bit of his culture. It was the
first step in a long road of multi cultural society. Even today we still see effects of a multi cultural
society. We are a society that continues to forge into tomorrow admiring other cultures and trying to
find commonalties amongst the differences.

NFL Stadium Bargaining
A very recent example we can see of stadium bargaining is with the Los Angles Rams. It has been a
popular practice to threaten to move an NFL team to Los Angles ever since they lost their team in
1994. Since 1994, there have been twenty proposals by NFL teams threatening to move in order to get
stadiums publically financed (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The St. Louis Rams were no different, they
wanted to get as much money as possible from St. Louis even though the city had been going through
tough economical times (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). Rams owner Stan Kroenke had a clause built into
his contract with the city that said if the Rams stadium ever fell below the top tier of stadiums in the
NFL they would get the public support of building a new stadium (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The
problem was that Kroenke had his eyes on a stadium much larger than a top tier NFL ... Show more

The first way is to explain how many construction jobs will be created by the facility (Noll, Zimbalist,

of spending in the community, which will then expand local employment (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p

the city and can be spent on more local outlets like hotels, restaurants and tourists locations (Noll,

Government Interventions are Failing
Introduction Around the world, governments, mostly intervenes in the market in order to accomplish
their policy objectives. The government s policy objectives or goals could be related to economics,
ranging from stabilization of prices, export promoting, encourage equal distributions for income and
commodity protection. The examples as per above proves that government intervention is not only
limited to economic effects but also influences the society. There are two (2) types of usual regulated
government interventions, which are automatic and discretionary. Automatic can be defined as
intervention which is based on rules and regulations. On the other side, government interventions
which are discretionary mostly targets stopping, suspension or limitation of a certain contract market.
An early review of government market interventions shows that discretionary based interventions
usually fails in accomplishing targeted policy objective compared to interventions based on rules as
the latter proves to be more successful in a market economy. At the same time, discretionary
interventions give results that are undesired and this could be quite damaging to the government. The
harmfulness in this aspect can be defined as total impact on those involved in either marketing or
producing commodities.
Government Intervention in the Markets Some of the reasons which cause government interventions
are in order to overcome market failure, to accomplish an equal distribution

Case Purpose A New Brand Positioning Strategy Of Omega
1. Propose a new brand positioning strategy for Omega. How does this new strategy take into account
the brand s current PODs POPs and existing customer brand knowledge? (25 points).
With regards to brand growth, the company absolutely needs to make strategic decisions to ensure that
Omega becomes the world s largest luxury watch. This would require substantial strategic decisions to
be made especially related to the Omega s product families and its associated communication
strategies. The following are the recommendations or the new branding strategies:
I. One of the primary change in strategies would require pruning Omega s product lines to make it
more coherent and to eliminate any potential intra firm competition. Typically, the lower end models
need to be pruned so that it could be positioned as a more effective Luxurious Brand to compete
directly against other Luxury Brand watches. The prevention of any overlapping with sub brands will
ensure that there is no potential risk to the dilution of brand image as well as reduce the risk of
cannibalization of the current product lines. This will also help in uplifting the overall brand image of
the Omega brand by withdrawing a number of Omega s low priced models thereby boosting the band
profitability which will ensure that there is enough opportunity for the improvement on brand margins
a key factor in reducing the price differences with Rolex. Another underlying argument is that this
process will enable the exclusivity

Essay about Hockey-The Rodney Dangerfield Of Sports
Hockey, The Rodney Dangerfield Of Sports
In the US, there are four major sports; football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. Out of the four,
hockey gets the least amount of respect. This is something that bothers me as hockey player and fan,
and it also bothers other hockey fans around the country. They way that hockey is covered in the
newspapers, on television, and not just professional hockey. It goes the same for college hockey and
also high school hockey.
Lets start at the top with the NHL. The NHL has a TV deal with ESPN and ABC so that the two
companies share the Stanley Cup Finals. The NHL s championship series. (It should also be noted that
ABC owns ESPN). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was about a week ago when the Devils were playing Toronto in the second round. The game was on
ESPN for people to watch in all parts of the country except the Tri State area. Here, we are expected to
watch the game on the Devils local station, which happens to be FOX Sports Net NY. The only
problem with this is that my cable deal doesn t give me FOX Sports Net NY, therefore I was unable to
watch a very entertaining game. Even the other three sports have their first round games on network
television. But some people who even have cable, can t watch a first round game of hockey in the
playoffs.
Also, the way that the NHL is covered in the newspapers and on TV is different to that of other sports.
When you read the newspaper the only time that you will see a hockey game make the front page of
the sports section is in the local paper when the local team is winning. If they are not winning or not in
the playoffs, you will not read much about hockey. And the same thing goes for the newscasts . When
they do the sports, the only time that they will talk about hockey first is if the local team had a big win
or is in the playoffs.
These problems aren t just in the NHL and professional. It also goes down to college hockey. If you
live in this area, the only time you will be able to watch c college hockey game is during the Final
Four. Which, ironically, is also

The Hunger Games and the Lottery Comparison Essay
My two books for this comparison essay are The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, and The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins. The Lottery is about the towns people drawing out slips of paper and seeing who
gets the slip of paper with the black pencil dot; whereas The Hunger Games is about Katniss taking
her sister s place when she she s called into the Hunger Games and trying to survive in the arena with
Peeta in the Hunger Games. This book ends with Katniss and Peeta winning the Hunger Games and
the two of them returning to District 12 with mixed feelings for each other, and an unforgettable
experience. There are many similarities between these two books. Both stories have mind blowing
experiences. Tessie throwing a fit about her husband ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a sacrifice for a good harvest. So you can see they both have some similarities; one of them being,
they are both barbaric when it comes to rituals. The settings of these two books are different, because
The Hunger Games mainly takes place in the arena, and The Lottery takes place in a public town spot.
In The Lottery , there s really no romance, but in The Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta are shown to
the world as a couple. I think is actually a good tactic when trying to get sponsors and surviving
because Peeta does protect Katniss and I believe he really does have feelings for her, as she does for
him. Katniss is confused about her feelings for Gale, I think that she probably does care for Gale, but
personally I think she cares for Peeta more. Otherwise why would she have risked her life for for him?
Like when each district got a pack, and she ended up giving Peeta the sleeping syrup so she could go
get the pack so Peeta could survive. There were also many differences between these two books. At
first Tessie didn t know she was the one that was going to be the one getting stoned to death literally;
but when Katniss volunteered to take Prim s place in the Hunger Games, she knew that she was
risking her life. Tessie wasn t prepared for the stoning, whereas Katniss was put into training and
could defend herself is she were attacked. These two books are different because The Hunger Games

Their marriage will signify a peace treaty between the nation of Lucis, where Noctis resides, and the
empire Niflheim. Niflheim and Lucis, currently in the midst of a war over a powerful, magical crystal,
choose to make ends meet on more proper terms, hence the arranged marriage. Keeping spoilers to a
minimum, the empire of Niflheim end up betraying the kingdom of Lucis, and assassinating the king,
Noctis father. Noctis, en route to Altissia, hears of this, and is at a loss of words. The game starts with
Noctis and his accompanied allies in search of a purpose because of the sudden change of events.
Initially, their relationships with one another are kind of uneasy, but they develop profoundly
throughout the trials and tribulations that they face together. Prompto Argentum, originally a source of
comic relief, matures after each battle the group faces, and develops a sense of honor from protecting
Noctis. Ignis, acting as an adult like figure for Noctis, views Noctis as a kid in need of constant
assistance at the beginning of the story. Eventually, he respects him and even looks up to him in some
ways. Gladiolus, Noctis bodyguard, changes drastically; he spends most of the story viewing the
Prince as spoiled, but soon comes to befriend him and put his life on the line for him without question.

Theme Of Enduring Appeal For King Lear
Shakespearian plays like King Lear have enduring appeal because of their universal and timeless
themes.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Support your answer with reference to
the text.
The universal nature of the themes explored in the works of William Shakespeare endow them with
lasting appeal. They feature ideas which are as relevant today as they were in Shakespeare s time, and
this is one of the many reasons why modern audiences are still drawn to plays like King Lear , where
ideas of corruption, power, social inequality and society s attitude toward the elderly take centre stage.
A timeless theme featured in the play is that of corruption within the justice system. Police brutality,
racial profiling and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the pursuit of power, Regan, Goneril and Edmund are corrupted and turn to violence and
manipulation to sate their greed and lust. Once they have achieved their goals, they lose what little
empathy they had left, allowing them to justify their treatment of both Lear and Gloucester. Regan and
Goneril employ glib and oily arts to gain their dowries, yet the unflinching devotion they express for
their father in the love test is nowhere to be seen when they humiliate and bully him until he is driven
mad. Edmund similarly manipulates his credulous father and noble brother in order to gain his brother
s inheritance for himself. The unflinching and violent desire for power shown by these characters is a
timeless theme, not just in literature but throughout history, giving the play its continuing appeal.
The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen. In the play, this inequality is revealed by Edgar
who describes the low farms and poor pelting villages that make up the country. This image of the
land is a stark contrast to how Lear saw his kingdom in the opening scene, which he describes as
plentiful, rich and fair . It is only when Lear is driven out into the storm that he too can acknowledge
the reality of life for the poor whose houseless heads are exposed to the elements. The theme

Italian Theatre In The 18th Century
18th Century Italian Opera in London Opera is a massive genre of theater that has had many major
effects on art. The 18th century especially is a thriving time for opera. According to The Victoria and
Albert Museum, Opera houses were popping up all around Europe. The audiences were lively and
nobility commissioned many new works. Italian opera, at this time was spreading from Italy to other
countries such as England. With the help of my group, we will be exploring the importance of who
brought Italian opera to London, how did London change opera, and what effect did it have on
society? In addition, I will be looking deeply into the effect of opera houses in this period of growth.

Generally, these buildings were made specifically for operas, meaning they, ideally, would have some
of the most efficient sound acoustics of the time! This would help make the show enjoyable for all
seats in the house. According to The Royal Opera House s history webpage, Handel had close links
with this almost 300 year old opera house until his death in 1759. The Royal Opera House was a
popular opera house at the time that even rivaled The Royal Drury Lane. In addition to an acoustic
appropriate place to perform, opera houses were also important because of then many riots that
happened when seating prices changed. Below is an examples of seat price changes that caused riots
(See Fig. 2) by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
There are occasional reports of riots among the cheap seats (the footman´s gallery ). Traditionally
people could come for half price toward the end of the evening, to see the short after pieces that
followed the main play. In 1763, the management announced on the playbills that only full price
tickets would be available. The response was an organized riot which destroyed the interior of the
theatre and forced the reinstitution of the half price

The Three Stages Of Memory Encoding
On a day to day basis humans are processing different information constantly. Have you ever
wondered how this is possible? Have you ever wondered why you are able to obtain new information,
store it, and then recall it for later usage? For example, how is it possible that we can study for a test
one day, and then the next day we are able to retrieve that very information to use to take and pass a
test? Because memory is an important cognitive process it helps us to record the past, so we are able
to refer back to it at a later date. If humans didn t have a memory, we would only be able to
understand the present and our past wouldn t exist. The urge to study how memory works and the
concept behind, it has been around for many years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens through three stages which include encoding, storage, and retrieval.
Memory Encoding
Before information is able to be stored successfully in our memory, information from our sensory
input has to be changed into a form in which our brain is able to comprehend. For example, our
perception of something may be different from how it is actually explained, so we have to encode it in
order to better understand it. There are three main stages where encoding occurs; visual (picture),
acoustic (sound), and semantic (meaning) (McLeod, 2007). We go through these three stages often
without even realizing it. For example, when we have to remember a series of numbers for something,
we may keep referring back to it so we have a mental image of it (visual), we may repeat it to
ourselves ( acoustic), and it has to be significant to us otherwise we would have a need to remember it
(semantic).
Memory Storage
Storage in the human memory is the second of the three processes. The process of storing information
involves filtering out and filing information so our brain does not experience an information overload.
The information our brain receives can be stored into our long term, short term or sensory memory.
Memory storage also involves how long we are able to obtain that information and how much
information our brain can actually withhold. According to Miller (1956) most adults are able to store
between 5 and

3D Animation In Animation
3D animation is a virtual animation technique consisting of an animation in a digital world. 3D
animations are sophisticated creative pieces on which depend the mastery of multiple processes. The
illusion is shaped around the creation of a universe and characters both surprising and an almost
palpable reality. Behind the power of computers and software, the formidable human genius made it
possible to reach a dream: to give life to a technological matter rather abstract at the beginning, and to
set up stories without limitations for the imagination. That s why restricting the world of 3D to a
simplistic view would be an error. The advancement of digital image technologies has revolutionized
the entertainment and its sectors. Animation, video games, cinema, advertising... the 3D images

The Nature Of Thomas And St. Thomas Aquinas
Thomas was conceived in 1224 or 1225 in the château that his respectable and affluent family
possessed in Roccasecca, on the edges of Aquino, close to the popular nunnery of Montecassino,
where his folks sent him for his underlying training. He later moved to Naples, the capital of the
Kingdom of Sicily, where Frederick II had established a renowned college. There, the youthful
Thomas was acquainted with and was educated without the impediments in compelling somewhere
else the thoughts of the Greek logician Aristotle, whose extraordinary esteem he instantly saw. St.
Thomas Aquinas was the best medieval logician. He attempted to demonstrate the amicability
amongst confidence and reason, and amongst Christianity and logic.
Reason covers what we can know by understanding and rationale alone. From reason, we can realize
that there is a God and that there is just a single God; these facts about God are open to anybody by
experience and rationale alone, aside from any unique divine revelation. Confidence covers what we
can know by God s extraordinary disclosure to us By confidence, we can realize that God appeared on
the scene through Jesus Christ and that God is triune. These certainties about God can t be known by
reason alone. Confidence expands on reason. Since confidence and reason are both methods for
touching base at the truth and since all certainties are symphonious with each other confidence is
steady with reason. In the event that we comprehend confidence and

Themes In Dead Poets Society
In the Dead Poet s Society the racial, class, and gender identities of the characters are singular. The
boys in the movie attend an all male boarding school in which all the students are Caucasian. In
addition, the boys seem to come from wealthy families that can afford to send their boys to such a
prestigious boarding school. This monolithic starting point provides an opportunity for issues to
develop as cracks in the conservative façade.
Mr. Perry, Neil s father claims to come from a lower class upbringing and is obsessed with giving his
son opportunities that cost money such as medical school, Harvard, and the Welton Academy. Mr.
Perry s behavior, along with the conservative Academy and its repressive headmaster, echo and the
documentary of the McLean(VA) high school viewed in class. The documentary illustrated the
differences between a wealthy and poorer school. Taken together, these sources lead me to believe that
there is an enormous emphasis placed on class and wealth by the characters in the movie. The boys in
the movie are privileged for their ease of access to great education. None of the boys in the movie
work for the school or have jobs to pay for their schooling at the prestigious Welton Academy which
prepares them intensely for the best colleges available.
The boys in the movie may be privileged but the older generation, represented by, Headmaster Nolan,
and Mr. Keating, seem to have the greatest power and influence of any characters in the movie.

Definition Of Professionalism, Within And Early Childhood...
The articles I chose are ones that speak to what the definition of professionalism is, within and early
childhood educator (ECE) setting. This is critical because if there is a broad spectrum of definitions it
may work against being accepted as a profession. All the articles speak to how they believe
professionalism should look as an ECE and how the workers themselves feel about it. The articles
address how can we make the profession concrete and admissible and each have their own takes on
what a profession is and what that means.
Article 1
The first article I read spoke to what is expected from ECE s and how they view themselves as
professionals. It also addresses the difficulty in defining what an ECE needs to be because of the
children involved. Wisdom is needed and is key to working with children for the long term and the
article address, how do you convey this? There needs to be a presence when working with children,
that you are there to care for them, but you also know what you are doing. How do you define that in
terms of a profession? Most of the ECE s who reported what they believed made them professional,
reported aspects that reflected themselves as a person. The article highlights the difference in
responses from the participants, and also how each response is valid. The article moves towards the fat
that professionalism within the workplace is a balance of experience and schooling spread between the
workers.

Apocalypse Now took place during the Vietnam War and is directed by Frances Ford Coppola. In this
film he went above and beyond to show the mental impact war has on it s military. The US militaries
involvement in the film shows very intense situations. The US has no mercy. They were in Vietnam
working on taking total and complete control. Sadly, they didn t really know what they were doing or
who was in command. For example Captain Benjamin L. Willard, often found himself searching for
answers but everything is a mess. Soldiers were randomly shooting at unknown things. The US

When surrounded by it, the mental drama is very extreme and hard to recover from it. It eventually

Charging a man with murder in this place was like handing out speeding tickets in the Indy 500 what I
like most about this quote is that its real. Obviously drivers in the Indy 500 are expected to speed. This
cruel war expects men to commit murder on a daily basis. This quote sums up how nasty the Vietnam
War was. This led to one of the highest causalities from any war in history. Some of the lessons we ve
learned are almost identical from our past wars to our present. Almost all wars are unpopular with the
homeland but a need for our country to remain safe and free. Both Vietnam and our involvement in
Iraq and Afghanistan caused many young Americans to die fighting for their country. Anytime we
have people in harms way it makes for many people questioning why we went to war. This was
demonstrated throughout many scenes in the movie. Whether you are for or against the war the
outcome in all confrontation has resulted in America being a safer place and our freedom has never

James Petrie Mackenzie
Introduction In 1875 James Petrie Mackenzie traveled by boat for a better life from Scotland to New
Zealand. James left Scotland because of the unhealthy environments, there was also not much land at
the time or money to go around. Overpopulated cities were also a problem. These push factors caused
many Scots to leave their homeland in search of better conditions. New Zealand offered many pull
factors. There was an abundance of cheap land, more job opportunities, a better lifestyle and in many
cases free passage to New Zealand.

Three Models And Theories Of Classroom Management
Analysis of Three Models/Theories of Classroom Management
A teacher s classroom duties and responsibilities vary. However, the key role of a teacher is to
maintain effective classroom management by creating a safe and supportive learning environment. To
avoid disorder in the classroom, teachers need to establish an environment where rules or procedures
guide students conduct. The absence of such classroom organisation creates an ineffective and
unsustainable teaching and learning environment. Therefore, an understanding of the different theories
of classroom management such as Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory and
Assertive Discipline equips teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to offer students the best
chance to succeed at school. A teacher s beliefs, attitudes and values help inform the best approach;
therefore, an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the three aforementioned theories will be
conducted, in addition to a concluding summary detailing the similarities and differences.
Firstly, Goal Centered Theory [GCT] is a classroom management approach developed by Rudolf
Dreikurs. Dreikurs founded GCT on the psychoeducational philosophies of Alfred Adler s Individual
Psychology Theory (Wright, 1957). The key principles of GCT advise that students behaviour is goal
directed, purposeful and aimed at attaining social approval (Dreikurs, Grunwald Pepper, 1998; Lyons,
Ford Slee, 2014). This instinctive need to belong is reflected in

  • 2. What Does The Clock Symbolize In The Great Gatsby My new cover for the novel, The Great Gatsby touches on the most relevant symbols being, Dr. T. J. Eckleburg s eyes, clocks, stars, and the green light at the end of the Buchanan s dock. Dr. T. J. Eckleburg s haunting eyes are depicted as being painted on a fading old billboard overlooking the Valley of Ashes. This pair of blue eyes staring down on the people below blatantly symbolize god looking down onto american society. The placement of the billboard in the Valley of Ashes can be seen as God looking down on the poor workers covered in coal dust. These eyes watching over the poor s conditions means that as God looks down on the dirty circumstances but does nothing to free these people of hard labor. Therefore it can be inferred that god watches over the poor far more intensely than he does the upper class who are free to do as they please outside of God s gaze. ... The most important mentioning of a clock in the piece is sitting on Nick s mantle piece. However, this clock has been broken and therefore relays Gatsby s desperation to turn back time. Gatsby then proceeds to knock this clock off of the mantleplace and catch it, symbolizing his lost time, referring to how the couple s time apart has in his eyes, altered Daisy in the worst possible way. This lost time is one of the main reasons for Gatsby s demise as he couldn t accept Daisy s personality over his objectifying and idealized memory of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Network Management in Big Data In day today world social media and social networking has received much attention from every people, like almost everyone has a Facebook account. The average global Internet user spends two and a half hours daily on social media, in this scenario just consider how much data is being generated every minute by every user. Schedule computation or schedule communication helps to optimize utilization and keep running time low. Several works propose to improve job scheduling by preserving data locality maintaining fair allocation among multiple resource types or discarding time consuming tasks. Even with optimal computation scheduling, the cluster network can still become a blockage. The optimization of network transfers can be done by improving the flow bandwidth allocation or by dynamically changing paths in response to demand. These approaches need accurate and timely application demand information, obtained either from the application itself through instrumentation, which is quick and accurate but intrusive, or from the network through monitoring , which does not require application involvement, but can be expensive, slow, and detects changes in demand only after they have occurred. FlowComb also uses MapReduce framework to influence the design of the system. MapReduce provides a divide and conquer data processing model, where large workloads are split into smaller tasks, each processed by a single server in a cluster (the map phase). The results of each task are sent over the cluster network (the shuffle phase) and merged to obtain the final result (the reduce phase). The network footprint of a MapReduce job consists pre dominantly of traffic sent during the shuffle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Writing An Article On Wikipedia Essay Despite the popular belief, writing an article on Wikipedia is subject to several rules. For example, before creating a page for a new article and a new topic, you have to make sure that the subject you tackled is either popular enough or old enough to be published. Yet there are some exceptions to this rule. It is the case for sudden events such as November 2015 Paris attacks that took place few days ago but already have a Wikipedia page.i Notability is not the only criterion to take into account before knowing if your article can be published or not. You also have to follow some basic rules such as avoiding plagiarism or always cite your sources at the end of the article. Moreover as an author you have to remain as neutral as possible. One of Wikipedia s goal is to provide information without any biased point of view or personal statement. Maybe the two most important and famous pillars of Wikipedia are the fact that it is free to use and licence free. Anyone can publish, edit or use a Wikipedia article as long as one follows the rules mentioned earlier.ii Without a doubt, Wikipedia is a website that you can use from time to time to find some pieces of information about various subjects. Since it is an open website it covers a very wide spectrum of topics. One of the drawbacks of it being open is that its content is not 100% reliable. That is the reason why to write an essay it is better to avoid the use of this website. However some parts of articles cannot be edited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Did The Right Of The Government Change The Power Of... The world is always changing, people, ideas, and new rules. The way people think and what they want in life change as they age and as new progress is made. Therefor, government should be changed when its ideals no longer aline with that of the peoples. The right of the government to rule over people should come from the people s approval. If people do not agree with their government they have the right to change their government. This right has changed history all over the world. Without this right the power of the government may be in the hands of a single ruler or monarch who has no interest in their people s wants or needs, and when this power falls into the wrong hands the people of a country have the right to take this power away and end the trynary in their country and give power to a more well suited government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have been many instances in history where the people have successfully caused a change in their government. The Declaration of Independence calls on this right when they broke away from England and formed their own government. England has also used the right to alter government when dethroning king Charles I during the English Civil War. Charles s belief of absolute power in a sole monarch was countered by Parliament, who won the war, wanting to rule over the English government. Giving Parliament the power to rule over the English government was a great change to how the country was ruled, and creating the Commonwealth of England. These are not the only instances in which the people s power to alter the government has changed history forever, but they are two times the people have changed their country ... • 6. The Death Of A Shoemaker And The Tea Party By Alfred F.... The American Revolution, today, is seen as a memorable event in history. It was a war against Britain for the independence of the thirteen colonies that began in 1775. Before the American Revolution began, there was a lot of conflict between the colonists and British authorities. The British raised revenue by establishing Acts such as the Stamp Act of 1766. The colonists were against it and tried revolting against Britain, leading to the Boston Massacre in 1770 of British soldiers shoot colonists and killing a few men. The colonists also retaliated against the taxations by dressing up as Indians and throwing tea into the ocean. Parliament began establishing acts known as the intolerable acts, which led to the revolution. In The Shoemaker and the Tea Party by Alfred F. Young, the author introduces and describes the life of a shoemaker, George Robert Twelves Hewes, and the events he was a part of leading up to and after the American Revolution. He shows the different meanings of the Revolution to people according to their perspective and view on society. The Excerpt from Accounts of George Robert Twelves Hewes as Told to James Hawkes by James Hawkes is a secondary source of what Hewes has told Hawkes about his memories of the Boston Massacre. Michael D. Hattem, however, gives a more contemporary view on the American Revolution in his article, The Historiography of the American Revolution. • 7. Summary Of Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic Just because we can t share sell shares in nature doesn t mean it has no value (Thomas Friedman). Planet Earth, as we all know, is an astonishingly complex and delicate network of dependent systems that have developed gradually over the past 4.6 billion years or so. Slowly, structured elements we refer to as nature evolved into significant components of the earth. Ironically, humans with their notably shorter period on earth have come to dominate and manipulate the landscape to the point of environmental degradation. Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic addresses this issue by challenging the way humans look at nature and its resources. He insists on the practice of moral responsibility to land by enlarging the boundaries of our community alongside elements like animals, plants, and ecosystems (Leopold, Land Ethic ) Leopold appeals to emotion by showcasing the real value that lies within nature and its beauty rather than the economic value that creates only selfishness in individuals. Virginia Woolf is also able to emotionally engage readers in her essay Death of a Moth by depicting the real struggle between life and death with a Moth s struggle for survival that ultimately ends with death. With her implementation of rhetorical devices, she s able to provoke a sense of pity and emotional connection towards the animal. By looking at Woolf s essay through Leopold s Land of Ethic, the ability to see nature as an equal member of our community rather than that of inferiority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is impossible to find a person without an address. Similarly on the Internet you will require an URL to locate a website. URL is short for Uniform Resource Locator. It is a global address for documents and websites on the World Wide Web. URL is a specific type of URI (Uniform Resource Identifier). Protocols like http, https, ftp, mailto, file and data that are registered with the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) are used in the scheme. The accessing computer should have access to the website and the particular port (for e.g. Port 80 for HTTP) must be open. The double (//) forward slashes are optional. Then comes the username and password pair with @ which is required to access the domain s backend using ftp protocol and you need user credentials to access. Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of the play occurred. This allows the film director s interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the audience s understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director. One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. In movie version of Hamlet there is a lot of emphasis put into the feelings Hamlet has towards his mother. During the movie, there is lot of physical presence shown on screen when Hamlet and his Gertrude begin to argue. The interpretation of Franco Zeffirelli propose that further plot development due to the fact that Hamlet s character is being given more internal conflict to overcome, which also connects to the hypothesis that Gibson s Hamlet is stronger, both physically and mentally, in comparison to the original Hamlet. Also, Gibson s Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger than one would imagine them from Shakespeare s original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the heavy headed revel that causes other nations to clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase (Hamlet I.iv.21 23). Shakespeare s Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his excessive drinking and partying. However, Gibson s Hamlet shows an efficiently operating town with broken barriers between social classes and small gardens and farms. He makes the many rockets that are landing on Mars to be just like locusts, swarming over a concentrated area and destroying it. And from the rockets ran men with hammers in their hands to beat the strange world into a shape that was familiar to the eye, to bludgeon away all the strangeness, their mouths fringed with nails so they resembled steel toothed carnivores, spitting them into their swift hands as they hammered up frame cottages and scuttled over roofs with shingles to blot out the eerie stars, and fit green shades to pull against the night. ; The reader sees from the similies that the rockets were overwhelming to the Martians and they were only pests, they did not help. Another theme Bradbury uses to gain the reader s attention is time travel. In his tenth story in The Martian Chronicles, Night Meeting ;, Bradbury uses time travel to convey more of his ideas of Mars. There was a smell of Time in the air tonight. He smiled and turned the fancy in his mind. There was a thought. What did Time smell like? This resolution will ensure American national security and prioritizing the states overseas assets by deploying troops to rid Iraq of weapons of mass destruction and to bring forth democracy to the Iraqi people. I wholeheartedly support your voting record, and as the representative of the American people of the Nation s capitol, I believe your vote is especially symbolic. Many in the international community are against American military intervention on Iraqi soil. They suggest that we either send in United Nations investigators to find out more about the weapons of mass destruction or work with other countries to establish some sort of sanctions. But I know there is no time to waste and I must immediately deploy three hundred thousand troops to be able to declare Mission Accomplish as soon as possible and with limited American and Iraqi casualties. Others say that we should do nothing on the basis that invading another country is destructive of human life, costs substantial amounts of money, undermines our moral authority, could ruin our international reputation, and violates the sovereignty of Iraq. These maps would contain different traits and phrases about the cartographer, the most relevant ones taking precedent above the others and appearing larger on the map. It has been a popular practice to threaten to move an NFL team to Los Angles ever since they lost their team in 1994. Since 1994, there have been twenty proposals by NFL teams threatening to move in order to get stadiums publically financed (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The St. Louis Rams were no different, they wanted to get as much money as possible from St. Louis even though the city had been going through tough economical times (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). Rams owner Stan Kroenke had a clause built into his contract with the city that said if the Rams stadium ever fell below the top tier of stadiums in the NFL they would get the public support of building a new stadium (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The government s policy objectives or goals could be related to economics, ranging from stabilization of prices, export promoting, encourage equal distributions for income and commodity protection. The examples as per above proves that government intervention is not only limited to economic effects but also influences the society. There are two (2) types of usual regulated government interventions, which are automatic and discretionary. Automatic can be defined as intervention which is based on rules and regulations. On the other side, government interventions which are discretionary mostly targets stopping, suspension or limitation of a certain contract market. An early review of government market interventions shows that discretionary based interventions usually fails in accomplishing targeted policy objective compared to interventions based on rules as the latter proves to be more successful in a market economy. At the same time, discretionary interventions give results that are undesired and this could be quite damaging to the government. The harmfulness in this aspect can be defined as total impact on those involved in either marketing or producing commodities. How does this new strategy take into account the brand s current PODs POPs and existing customer brand knowledge? (25 points). With regards to brand growth, the company absolutely needs to make strategic decisions to ensure that Omega becomes the world s largest luxury watch. This would require substantial strategic decisions to be made especially related to the Omega s product families and its associated communication strategies. The following are the recommendations or the new branding strategies: I. One of the primary change in strategies would require pruning Omega s product lines to make it more coherent and to eliminate any potential intra firm competition. Typically, the lower end models need to be pruned so that it could be positioned as a more effective Luxurious Brand to compete directly against other Luxury Brand watches. The prevention of any overlapping with sub brands will ensure that there is no potential risk to the dilution of brand image as well as reduce the risk of cannibalization of the current product lines. This will also help in uplifting the overall brand image of the Omega brand by withdrawing a number of Omega s low priced models thereby boosting the band profitability which will ensure that there is enough opportunity for the improvement on brand margins a key factor in reducing the price differences with Rolex. Have you ever wondered why you are able to obtain new information, store it, and then recall it for later usage? For example, how is it possible that we can study for a test one day, and then the next day we are able to retrieve that very information to use to take and pass a test? Because memory is an important cognitive process it helps us to record the past, so we are able to refer back to it at a later date. If humans didn t have a memory, we would only be able to understand the present and our past wouldn t exist. The urge to study how memory works and the concept behind, it has been around for many years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This happens through three stages which include encoding, storage, and retrieval. Memory Encoding Before information is able to be stored successfully in our memory, information from our sensory input has to be changed into a form in which our brain is able to comprehend. For example, our perception of something may be different from how it is actually explained, so we have to encode it in order to better understand it. There are three main stages where encoding occurs; visual (picture), acoustic (sound), and semantic (meaning) (McLeod, 2007). We go through these three stages often without even realizing it. For example, when we have to remember a series of numbers for something, we may keep referring back to it so we have a mental image of it (visual), we may repeat it to ourselves ( acoustic), and it has to be significant to us otherwise we would have a need to remember it (semantic). Memory Storage Storage in the human memory is the second of the three processes. The process of storing information involves filtering out and filing information so our brain does not experience an information overload. The information our brain receives can be stored into our long term, short term or sensory memory. Memory storage also involves how long we are able to obtain that information and how much information our brain can actually withhold.
