Research Paper on Dont Ask Dont Tell
Repeal Don t Ask Don t Tell The Don t Ask Don t tell act which prevented openly gay and lesbians
from serving in the United States Armed forces was placed into law on December 21st, 1993. It states
that the military cannot discriminate against any gay, lesbian or bisexual person as long as they are
discreet about their sexuality. They believed that any persons showing or acting in homosexual
behavior would go against strict military moral codes and policy. However on September 20th, 2011
the Don t ask Don t Tell was repealed because the government felt it was discriminatory against
homosexuals. I agree that openly gay and lesbians should able to serve in the military because nobody

They wanted equality for all. For a long time the government and the citizens of America struggled
with the division created by this policy. President Obama wanted to fix this and repealing the policy
was one of the first things he tackled. This is in fact why President Obama decided to end the Don t
Ask Don t Tell Policy in 2010 according to article on CNN s website entitled Obama signs repeal of
don t ask, don t tell policy. They quote him stating more than two centuries in the making, the
president said. Over the course of U.S. history, gay Americans fought just as hard (and) gave just as
much to protect the country as anyone else. We are a nation that believes all men and women are
created equal. He to believes that any gay person is just as capable as any straight person. By denying
that right we are taking away their equality and saying they are not good enough to fight and defend
our country. Now that the policy has been repealed gays finally have the same rights as us and
hopefully they can be better accepted into our society. Of course there are still some people who do

How to Make a Choice in Favor of a Better Website The rapid development in internet technology in
the last few decades has made it possibly to find something on web more efficiently, especially if you
need particular information. It is a common thing these days when you are looking for something not
to leaving home. However, I faced one problem doing some search on the internet. I had a question
about people s health, and I wanted to get an answer. I put my keyword in the search engine and start
searching. People who search on the internet know how many results you can get on your searching. I
started to open websites and looked at them trying to find what I needed. Soon, I realized that I couldn

I was looking for it for a several minutes, and found just advertisement and success stories. No one
informative page could I find there. Every time when I clicked on links, I got a new page with selling
products. So, we can see that Health Guard does not have coverage. Bias is one more criterion for
evaluating two websites. We already know that CMHC is sponsored by the educational institution that
is a non profit organization, but it directly relates with health. All information that we can find here is
informative but not advertisement. There is no selling of any kind of products. Graphics, fronts, and
capital letters do not play with our emotions. They just make reading easier. In contrast to CMHC,
Health Guard is a profit site which focuses on attracting people to buy their products. Advertising is
everywhere. For example, you can find how much a happy pack costs even on the home page. There
are a lot of capital letters colorful pictures with products and their prices almost everywhere. We can
see words such as only $ dollars or order now. They play to the reader s emotions. Every page is very
colorful and looks crowded, so that makes reading really hard. Finally, the currency criterion helps us
to find a better site. Going to the section Emergency Information on CMHC at the bottom of the page,
I found the date when the page was last updated. It means that this site is still working, and the

Dna Sequencing Essay
DNA Sequencing: Algorithms that Convert Physical to Digital
EFFECTS:
DNA sequencing, specifically with small nanopore sequencers, have the potential to advance medicine
by increasing scientific knowledge of diseases and improving medical diagnosis in remote areas. The
leading sequencer today is the MinION, which is an incredible 10x3x2cm and only requires a USB
connection to a computer [5]. The MinION currently can sequence viral and bacterial genomes, but
will expand to include full human genomes. The MinION s size and capabilities allow it to target the
microscopic source of ailments outside of the laboratory and in a greatly reduced amount of time.
Soon after its deployment in 2014, the MinION was used to sequence a salmonella ... Show more

A 100mV voltage is applied across the protein, which draws the DNA through the pore. When a DNA
nucleotide is in the pore, a sensor records the change in current as an event [1].
This change in current is stored in a FAST5 file type, which stores metadata and the events [7]. The
FAST5 data files then undergo base calling correlating one of the four nucleotides in DNA with each
event in Amazon Cloud with a software called Metrichor or with offline open source software called
Nanocall [7]. To reduce error rates, base calling algorithms are based off the Viterbi algorithm, which
determines the most probable path based upon surrounding measurements. In the case of base calling,
the surrounding 5 or 6 nucleotides are examined, 5 having 1024 combinations and 6 having 4096
combinations [9]. While using 6 nucleotides doubles the analysis time, it improves the accuracy of
base calling [5].
After base calling, the all analyzed events are compiled into a single complete sequence. This
sequence is then compared to sequences in databases such as What s in My Pot (WIMP) or 16S, which
match the sequenced DNA to a specific species [8]. Because of the high speed of the input and base
calling, usually species identification is done in real time [8].

In the realm of DNA sequencing, two main security concerns could threaten the computer systems

President Hoover s New Deal Essay
Prosperity is just around the corner, President Herbert Hoover announces, as the country fell into the
Great Depression of the 1930s. Unable to recognize citizens, Hoover was kicked out of office and
Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected as president, which resulted the start of great social upheaval
through the presentation of the New Deal. The New Deal ran from 1933 to 1937 under two stages.
First, he set about offering relief to its people, then after 1935, he set profound agendas for social
reform, which was specifically a socio economic reform agenda that was made up of a host of
legislative initiatives and government programs, launched by President Roosevelt supported by
Congress in response to Great Depression. The New Deal composed of the three R s: relief for those
Americans unemployed, recovery towards the economy allowing businesses to operate again, and
reform economy in preventing replicating situations. President Roosevelt s New Deal was guided by
four principles, set of ideas and beliefs that formed the New Deal Agenda, which were to balance
production and consumption, reform capitalism, to alleviate the inequalities of wealth, and to
counterbalance the power of big corporation with government programs and public interest. The New
Deal is significant because programs and initiatives were created in providing channels for the
working people to gain more access to work. In order to transform society, the New Deal constructed a

Judging a student s future off of a test that is not structured around their personal abilities is not fair.
Every student is not the same, therefor should not be tested like so. It is important to keep in mind that
13% of high school students have a learning disability and many students just have a hard time taking
test. Looking at a response to the New York Times blog How Well Do You Think Standardized Test

school career, however when it came to taking the ACT she only scored a 22, a below average score.
Many students like Lauren do well in the classroom setting, but when testing time comes around they

Millersburg Case Brief
MILLERSBURG A Millersburg area man on Tuesday denied being in possession of firearms as he
fled the scene where he was allegedly stalking a donut delivery driver.
Andrew L. Hershberger, 40, of 4607 Township Road 302, Millersburg, pleaded not guilty in Holmes
County Municipal Court to carrying a concealed weapon, menacing by stalking, possession of drugs,
possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
If convicted, Hershberger faces up to six years in prison.
The charges stem from a Dec. 19 incident.
Millersburg Police were called that night to a reported disturbance at a gas station along state Route

weapons in a vehicle, said Shaner.
Hershberger told the officer he had been following the deliveryman because he believed the man was

Truly Experience The Pantheon Of Ancient Rome
Truly Experience the Pantheon The Pantheon happens to be the best preserved building from the times

Pantheon has, it was the biggest domed structure until 1912. The interior of the Pantheon is more
dramatic and stunning in comparison to its exterior. When you walk inside, you are bombarded with
various colours of light that reflect off of a variety of surfaces. The alcove that is just opposite the
door, is the most impressive and it touches the ceiling. It has decorative cornice and red porphyry
frieze as well as being flanked by Corinthian marble columns in a Phyrgian purple. Each of the
alcoves will have two columns in either Numidian yellow or Phyrgian purple. Each of the alcoves also

Individualism In Rocky Iv
Ronald Reagan was the 40th president of America from 1981 to 1989. His arrival brought the promise
of a new dawn in American politics because he came to power in the midst of the Cold War(Richards),
a clash between two titans: the capitalist U.S and the communist U.S.S.R. During the Cold war, the
media became an extremely influential tool, especially in film. It was used as a form of propaganda by
both superpowers. Rocky IV, directed by Sylvester Stallone, is one such film that highlights and
endorses the ideals laid out by the Reagan Administration. These values can be briefly summarized as
the instigation of family values, the concept of rugged individualism, and perhaps more importantly,
the endless debate between communism and capitalism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stereotyping And The American Cinema
Stereotyping Arabs in Hollywood Stereotyping is a very common tool used by film makers because it
is a simple way of establishing a trait of a character in a movie but it provides a single sided portrait of
certain people based on their sex, gender, religion, race or age. As an example the way Arabs,
particularly Palestinians, are portrayed in cinema. The American cinema has painted a picture full of
misconceptions about them and created a stereotype that has been exacerbated in many movies since
the dawn of hollywood. Because Cinema is a powerful tool that manipulates and reshapes the thoughts
of audiences by making spectators passively consume all presented material, it made it easy to
manipulate the minds of people to serve a political agenda mainly the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Jack
Valenti a former president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America had said:
Washington and Hollywood spring from the same DNA . Since the founding of Israel in 1948, every
American administration has made it clear which side it is on. On the other hand, it failed to support
the millions of Palestinians who are loosing their homes, their lands, and their lives to the occupation.
In the contrary, they have always been projected as the evil that wants death to Israel and America.
And that is where cinema comes in, it goes to reinforce that image in the minds of people so they are
less compassionate and sympathetic to the palestinian people as Israel is expanding in

For Maximum Productivity And Employee Satisfaction In The
For maximum productivity and employee satisfaction in the workplace, employers should employ

Cognitive tests will vary to correlate with the requirement of a position; however, they measure
critical thinking and problem solving skills, and a person s ability to learn, apply and comprehend new
information. Personality tests is usually based on a model which describes the different personality
dimensions and calculates where an individual stand. For example, a person who wishes to be in law
enforcement is screened for traits such as impulse control, stress tolerance, courage, and judgement
under pressure. Research supports the use of personality tests in addition to cognitive ability measures
where both are valid predictors of job performance (Bobko et. al., 1999; Sackett Ellingson, 1997;
Schmitt et. al.,1997). Psychological evaluations before employment can rationalize the hiring process
which results in making more informed decisions. Unfortunately, working conditions in Grenada is

Social Unrest In Russia
3. Use source F and your own knowledge to explain why there was social unrest in Russia between
1890 and 1914.
Extremely unbalanced economy, uneven distribution of wealth and power between social classes
alongside political repression and military defeat were all contributing factors to the social unrest in
Russia. Social classes played an important role since the Tsar only satisfied the Upper Class resulting
in a lavish lifestyle for them meanwhile 87.5% lived in extreme poverty. The contrast between classes
and the different standards of living is what truly catalysed the social unrest. In 1902 bad harvests and

First, the investor s holding period is either suspended or terminated, which is not necessarily a bad
thing if the investor already has long term capital gains. Second, and most troublesome, is the inability
to deduct losses to the extent that the investor has an unrecognized gain. Also, financing charges for
straddle positions are not deductible. Instead, for the investor in a straddle situation, the charges are
capitalized into the cost basis of the long position. Finally, corporations lose the 70 percent deduction
on all qualified dividends for stocks that are part of straddle positions. Only in a few circumstances
would a company want to do something that would constitute a straddle; corporations should
generally avoid straddles. Stock Option Transactions. The premium received or paid for stock option

Franz Kafka as a Hunger Artist
Through much of Franz Kafka s writing, the reader can see how his personal experiences and
viewpoints are clearly worked into his many stories. One of which stands out is his story A Hunger
Artist. In this story Kafka speaks through the hunger artist of the alienation and isolation he feels in
his own body, as well as the emptiness he feels as a result of the disconnected relationship he and his
father share. Ironically this emptiness manifests itself quite literally at the end of Kafka s life, when he
dies as a result of tuberculosis of the larynx, which causes him to literally starve to death, just as the
hunger artist in the story. It was said about his writing the early manifestations of authentic originality
were nurtured in solitary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the hunger artist, he too lived in a state of constant want for both food and recognition, as he
longed for his father s acceptance. From the very beginning of Kaka s life, his family had been
organized by, around, and for the benefit of his overbearing father. As a result of his father s constant
criticisms, Kafka began to criticize himself, as he felt crushed by his ever present burden of guilt,
which he turned into self hatred. One of the most significant influences on Kafka s life and work was
his domineering father. Kafka s stories often contain themes drawn from the burden of his father s
tyranny in his home life, depicting settings of confinement as well as convoluted systems of
punishment and other expressions of seemingly all powerful authority. (Miline 100) He blames his
father for having robbed him of his childhood, never giving him the attention he is starving for, and
like the hunger artist, he spends his whole life seeking it. The most sustained account of Kafka s
childhood is seen by Kafka himself, contained in the fifty page

Lucretius Creation
There s not a definite explaining as to who, what, when, where, and how everything in this world was
created. One of the greatest creation questions is how or who created humankind. According to many
religious writings, God was the one that created everything, from the universe down to every cell in
our body. According to the Bible, God was the one who created human and everything else. However,
in the section, Creation and the Cosmos , some texts contradict with this idea that God created all
things. One pre Socratic, Thales of Miletus, an early Greek scientific thinker, argues that the world is
made of one substance and that substance is not God. The epic On the Nature of Things, by Lucretius,

How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction Experiment
From the results that were collect throughout the experimental investigation has proved the hypothesis
to only be partially right. Multiple tests were made when conducting the experiment, two clear
solutions were combined at various temperatures and concentrations. The hypothesis states that by
adjusting the concentration of the reactants will cause the reaction to either speed up at a higher
concentration or slow down at a lower concentration. In the reaction temperature should have a similar
effect on the experiment, in that increasing the temperature will cause an increase of particle
movement and cause more collision, thus increasing the reaction rate. Therefore decreasing the
temperature will decrease the rate of the reaction. From the results given in Tables 2 and 3 it shown
that every time the concentration is halved the time is increased. When the concentrations of both
KIO3 and NaHSO3 are decreased the time has increased, some concentrations having a higher
increase than others. In each concentration decrease the time is at least doubled from the previous
concentration time, which is therefore increasing the rate of the reaction. Although unlike the change
in concentration, when the temperature of the reactants were either increased or decreased their was
no significant change. As shown in table 4. When the temperature was either increased or decreased to
10°C, 30°C, 40°C and 50°C the average times are all within one second of each other. Except for
when the reactants were cooled to a further 5°C the reaction time was increased by more than double
the reaction time. This showing that the results from the investigation did not fully support the stated
hypothesis. The standard rate law for the Iodine Clock reaction, is a first order reaction for KIO3 and a
second order reaction for NaHSO3. To determine this you must substitute the values into the equations
and whichever produces a straight line graph determines whether it is a first or second order reaction.
In graph 1. It shows that KIO3 is a second order reaction, this is due to the second order reaction
graph being straighter than the first order graph. This meaning the reaction proceeds at a rate
proportional to the square of the concentration,

Military Alliance System Essay
Firstly, the Alliance system contributed to the outbreak of WWI. One such example of the Alliance
system would be Bismarck s Dual Alliance in 1879, Triple Alliance in 1882, and the Triple Entente in
1907. In 1878, Germany and Austria Hungary formed the Dual Alliance, in a bid to increase security.
It was enlarged to the Triple Alliance when Italy joined in 1882. The Triple Alliance was a defensive
military alliance where the signatories were required to provide military support to each other should
one of them be engaged in a battle. In response to the Triple Alliance, Russia, who considered Austria
Hungary as her main rival, sought to ally herself alongside with France, and eventually Britain as well,
hence creating the Triple Entente. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example would be the July Crisis in 1914. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand on
28 June 1914 was significant as it raised the serious rivalry between Austria and Serbia. Archduke
Franz Ferdinand was shot in the morning in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip, who was a Bosnian Serb
nationalist who was a member of the Black Hand, an anti Austrian terrorist organization that was
sponsored by the government of Serbia. On 5 July, Kaiser William II of Germany had promised to
support Austria and agreed that Austria should be given a free hand to start war with Serbia, and gave
the First Blank Check . Austria then presented Serbia with a list of unreasonable demands and only
gave Serbia 48 hours to reply. However, when Serbia replied that they would agree with all the
demands except allowing Austrian army into the country, Austria rejected this reply and declared war
where she began bombing Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. With this declaration of war, Russia, being
involved in an alliance with Serbia, ordered her army to mobilize against

Advantages of the Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicles Over the...
INTRODUCTION
The growing dependence of many countries, especially the USA and Europe on the imported oil and
the daily increase of oil price and the heightened concern on the global warming and the
environmental pollutions which has forced many car manufacturing companies to study the new and
innovative techniques in solving this very important issue.
Toyota as the world s third car manufacturing company and the first in Japan has introduced a new era
in the vehicles history.
Initial hydrogen, fuel cell and pure electric vehicles were not much successful as they were all very
expensive and not very efficient. The true electric vehicles did not have the required standards of an

CONVINCING CONSUMERS:
The main issue on Hybrid vehicles was that most of consumers did not believe it as a real car.
Overtime, Toyota succeeded to convince the automobile buyers that Toyota Prius is a real, usable and
efficient hybrid car.
DRIVING RESPONSIBILITY.
Toyota Prius has been equipped with a monitoring system which helps the driver to know how to run
his/her car to have a better function and reduce the fuel usage and save more energy. This helps the
driver to feel responsible on his/her driving and to maximize the car fuel efficiency.
LONG TERM PLAN BEFORE LAUNCHING THE PRODUCT:
Although Toyota invented this new hybrid vehicle more than ten years ago, it did not offer the car to
the USA consumers immediately. The main reason was that Toyota was aware of the new technology
challenges. While Toyota was on the market research and new product development, other companies
were focusing on merger and acquisition. Brand recognition, technology changes and improvement
take several years to finish and Toyota wanted to launch a product which has cleared all the possible
obstacles such as space, efficiency, speed, safety, weight which can meet all consumers expectations.
MAINTAINS ITS COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES OVER COMPETITORS
The introduction of Toyota Prius was not just a short term goal. Toyota had much broader goals.

How Technology Change Over The Years And How Computers...
In today s society almost every information is just one click away. We have the freedom to search
anything we want to, whether that s on the go or just being bored to satisfy our needs. With the
technology we have like smart phones. Individuals now have the freedom to do anything on their
phones. Such as, take high quality pictures and videos, send e mails, play music, news alerts, and most
importantly having built in maps on our phones. It is really helpful especially with these features when
we are on the go. It is really surprising how technology change over the years and how computers
became handheld phones. We are absolutely living in the data age with innovation that is only a
couple of years was unimaginable. However, there are so many things concerning with smart phones
the most talked about right now is addictiveness. Now, individuals of the world have this type of habit.
Spending hours not putting them down, which can lead to many other habits, for example texting
while driving and many other things that I will touch upon. Individuals also rely to mostly everything
on smart phones. It has been said that if we forget our phones we forget our brains too. Many
individuals do not understand how this is concerning. The reason for this paper is to help other people
understand how smart phones change society. Will it do more good or will it do worse? I argue the
negative and positives of using a smart phone. Also, comprehend the effects of using a smart phone

Taking a Look at Television Broadcasting
In many cases, it is safe to say that television broadcasting has polished the narrow mindedness of an
imperative individual to either antagonize a supreme man running for presidency or be his very back
bone in the process of voting. As airing prominent speeches made by powerful political figures can get
one simple idea of justice to more than half the nation as it stands, it can create a strained society in
which one will seem to manipulate the others aspect of just, and in return will call for protests. In the
favor of qualifying that television broadcast has been both deleterious and accommodating to vote
percentages, sources A, B, and F help to embellish the main points fabricated in this essay. As of now,
in twenty first century, broadcasting has been very popular and it only seems to give birth to new
forms of idea that can be compressed into what the media has to portray. Media, even in a history not
so far away from our past have engendered the idea of setting powerful people to defend why they
should be elected as president. Broadcasting, even in our not so long ago history has took the initiative
to display one man sitting in office to half the nation The advent of television in the late 1940 s gave
rise to the belief that a new era was opening in public communication...its wide geographic
distribution and impact, provides a new, direct, and sensitive link between Washington and the people

African Religion Paper
Unit IV Scholarly Activity
The religious ceremonies practiced within the African religion attempt to funnel cosmic energy or
power for the betterment of the tribe. These ceremonies serve as a way for them to build strong
relationships with other members of their community, the gods, their ancestors, and nature spirits. The
shrines and altars they use generally are not a grandiose structure. Often they are not even a permanent
structure, they can be a simple stone marker in someone s yard.
During any ceremony, there is typically singing and dancing. People wear masks to allow invisible
spirits to interact with the human world (Deming, 2015). Before approaching a holy site, it is common

The offer was properly communicated because the offer was in written form in the newspaper, making
it sufficient for communicating the offer. Here, the offer was committed because the department store
posted in the add in the newspaper that explicitly stated first come first serve and out they go. The
department store also included that the sale was to be on Saturday, October 19th substantiating the
adds commitment. The add specifically states stipulations for obtaining the goods and asserted their
willingness to sell the both the necklace and the caps to who ever meets their requirments. When the
department store published the add in the newspaper, the offer was committed because the department
store conveyed their willingness to enter into a bargain. Under the terms that the store drafted, it
conveyed that they were bound by contract. Here the offer was definite in its terms because the
department store included subject matter, price, and quantity in its advertisement. The terms and

Descriptive Essay About A Boat
I almost stepped foot into what I thought to be my watery grave, but I hesitated as my foot broke the
surface of the water. I thought back to the boat ride out here and my feelings of uneasiness as we rode
the waves. The small boat contained six rows of benches for the tourists to sit at the front of the boat.
Directly behind the last row, a captain s station sat with the controls to steer the boat. Behind the
control room, or the back of the boat, sat one long bench. A metal railing encircled the entire boat,
except for a small portion at the back. Resting below the open area, hooked to the side of the boat, sat
a three rung ladder. I still tasted the wintergreen lifesaver I enjoyed on the car ride over here. The boat
took us three miles off the north shore of Oahu, I couldn t help but admire the beauty of this paradise.
Looking at the green mountains, lined with thick and healthy trees thanks to all the rain, and the
exquisite white beaches, calmed me and helped me forget the anxiety that overcame me. The cold,
early morning ocean breeze pulled my hair back, but no goosebumps graced my skin thanks to the
warm sun shining down on us. My fellow boat passengers all seemed to appear calm while we rode on
this death trap that closed the distance between us and the cage. My idea of fun consisted of reading a
book or watching a movie with family and friends, not jumping into a cage surrounded by sharks.
Adventure and risks are not a part of my life. The boat s captains included five men. Each man had a
beard and browned skin from all their time in the sun. Sunglasses rested on each of their eyes,
shielding them from the bright, hot sun. The boat engines loud roar came to a stop, only the waves
crashing against the boat made a sound. The oldest of the five men spoke first. He lifted a crooked,
dark finger and held it over the left side of the boat and exclaimed in a gruff voice, The cage is over
there and you will need to swim in 15 yards of free water to get to it. If the sharks come at you just hit
their nose. Looks of terror graced every traveler s face. The looks didn t fade until another one of the
boat s crew spoke up telling us that the older man played that joke on every tour group. I studied the

The South China Sea Essay
Since the 3rd Century AD, the South China Sea has been home to countless territorial disputes
between China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and other East Asian Nations. This region is so contentious
because it is one of the busiest trade routes, and is home to vast natural resources. Because of the long
and dense history of them, these disputes are some of the most difficult events to understand and
interpret in international relations. Because the disputes deal with relative power, and the security
dilemma, looking at the events through a realist lens is the most practical way of analyzing them.
Although there have been small disputes dating back to the 3rd Century, conflict in the South China
Sea really started to heat up in the early 1900 s. In the 19th Century, France had been heavily involved
in the South China Sea because they had colonized French Indochina (present day Vietnam). However
France was more concerned about control of the Gulf of Tonkin than the entire South China Sea. The
early disputes were primarily over the Paracel Islands, a group of islands somewhat in between China
and Vietnam. In 1902 (Serverino, 2010, p.76), China ordered the first official exploration of the
islands preemptively because they were worried the the French might try to claim the islands as part of
Indochina s territory. Then in the 1920 s, both Japan and France claimed to own the Paracel s. It was
around this time that China said the Paracel s were the southernmost part of its territory.

thought of artificial intelligence of a machine being able to think and act on its own. It s a popular
theme for novels and movies too. And who of us wouldn t love to have a personal robot to anticipate
our needs and take care of them? I even remember a production from the local planetarium about
computers worldwide that networked and synergized their data. At the end of the production this
networked computer system commanded, Let there be light! and a new universe was born. Artificial
intelligence has as many definitions as people defining it. For some it is only a matter of a machine
being able to analyze data and then take an appropriate action. But I think for most, it means that a
machine can actually think, can learn, can create, can come up with original ideas that it can act like a
person and be indistinguishable from a human being in its actions and thoughts. If artificial
intelligence is only a machine or a system acting on its own, then a lawn sprinkler system that has

Jacob Portman s grandpa was probably the most interesting person in his life. Grandpa Portman would
always regale Jacob with stories about his life in an orphanage. However, that wasn t the most
interesting part. This orphanage was home to many peculiar children. Some of these children could lift
massive boulders, while others could fly, make instant fireballs, or were even invisible. Grandpa
Portman stated that with the help of all these peculiar children, they would defeat monsters. For a six
year old, these stories sounded pretty believable, especially because Grandpa Portman had photos.
However, as he grew older, Jacob stopped believing these far fetched tales. The photos were obviously
some kind of photoshop and according to Jacob s dad, the monsters were people that took all of his
family s lives. One day Grandpa Portman starts acting all weird. He thinks that the monsters are
coming for him again and all he has left to defend himself against the monsters is a box cutter. As
Jacob visits to check up on him, his grandpa was not lying. He was standing face to face with a
monster that killed Grandpa Portman. As the monster disappears, Grandpa Portman is left dying only
before muttering his last words. Nobody believes Jacob when he says that he saw a monster, of course.

Paraphilia And Sexual Research
Societal values can be revealed by what they reject. Paraphilic acts differ based on time and place
because they are acts that are condemned as unnatural and abnormal by society (Chance, 2014, pp.

means love . Paraphilia can be defined as an intense and reoccurring sexual interest in atypical sexual
behaviour, with phenotypically normal, physically mature, and consenting human partners. A
paraphilia is necessary to diagnose a paraphilic disorder, but not all paraphilias are disorders.

Listening is an essential part of dialogue. If properly exercise, it allows us to absorb information

unessential dialogue and a waste of resources. Here we will discuss the relationship between siblings.
The siblings in this case have a long distance relationship. Sibling A is married with no children and

they have completed their message. The listener should keep in mind the rule of replying to statements
before changing the subject (Verderber, K. S., Verderber, R. F. 2013, pg. 213 214). In addition, Dr.
Passmore recommends for Empathetic Listening , that the listener reflect the emotion or perceived
emotion to the speaker so that they genuinely feel that the listener is listening (2014). Furthermore Dr.
Mc Naughton, adds it is important to let the listener know what resources or help the listener can

Sidney Bechet Impact On Jazz
From Bechet to Marsalis: The Evolution of Jazz
Jazz: An overview
In the 20th century, Jazz was one of the most expressive forms of music around, as it was just starting
out and was born in a time where victims of oppression were beginning to stand up and rebel. In
comparison to classical music, Jazz is a very new genre of music. It s evolution is vividly evident in it
s contrast of instrumentation, dynamics, and the introduction of modal jazz which I will discuss later
on in this essay. One of the first jazz virtuoso s that appeared and had a significant influence on jazz,
was Sidney Bechet, on clarinet and saxophone.

With this popularity, jazz musicians decided to form larger ensembles, known as Big Bands . These
big bands would typically consist of trumpets, saxophones, trombones, drums, bass (or double bass),
piano and would usually have a soloist. These bands were like the symphony orchestras of jazz. A few
of the most popular big bands would ve been led by Chick Webb, Paul Whiteman, Glenn Miller, Ted
Lewis and an all female big band named Helen Lewis and her all girl jazz syncopaters . The popularity
of these groups was astounding. They were selling out venues everywhere and going on regular tours
across America. These bands would have some impeccably skilled jazz musicians as soloist s also
such as Bix Beiderbecke and Dizzy Gillespie. One big band that stood out from this era would be
Benny Goodman s big band. Their popularity was almost unbelievable. Benny himself was widely
known as the King of Swing and had some of the most dedicated fans at the time. Radio was the most
important aspect for Benny as his recordings would be heard by a wider audience. This ultimately led
to the crazy fan base he gained. For example, in their performance at the Stanley Theatre, it was
reported that most of the audience were dancing down the aisles to the music. People had never
experienced music like this before. It was almost like an explosion of life and freedom, caused by a
wave of new and exciting music. Goodman s performance at

breath to steady himself. That breath made him wince as pain lanced through his side, a sure sign that
the last strike had penetrated his screen. He hunched forward driving the staff into the ground as he
studied his adversary. The silver armor was dented all over, a particularly nasty furrow on one of his

proof that he d given as much as he d received in this fight. The armored figure lowered his sword. An

Examples Of Superstitions
A superstition is a set of thoughts that are incongruent with reality, which lead to a series of doings,
behaviours and beliefs that an object or action that is not related to a group of events influences its
outcomes (Akova, 2011; Damisch, Stoberock, Mussweiler, 2010). There are superstitious people all
around the world, with different religions, beliefs, cultures and traditions (Akova, 2011).
Superstitions can serve to give either good or bad luck, some examples can be: crossing fingers, four
leaf clovers, knocking on wood, breaking a mirror, seeing a black cat, opening an umbrella inside the
house, or even a set of steps self made before an event (Akova, 2011).

This paranormal belief may be the result of those with an external locus of control attempting to deal
with the uncontrollability of their lives. On the contrary, individuals who present an internal locus of
control do not necessarily hold superstitions, probably because they do not have the need of coping
with the uncontrollability of their lives (Stanke Taylor, 2004).
Religiosity and superstition
In many studies, it has been found that religiosity correlates with the occurrence of superstitious
behaviours and paranormal beliefs. Apparently, a higher degree of religiosity correlates with a higher
frequency of reporting beliefs in paranormal experiences or the supernatural (Stanke Taylor, 2004).
However, religion considers superstitions as extravagant and irrational, but religion itself could be

The Removalists Essay
Australian dramas, such as David Williamson s The Removalists , inclination to depend on stereotypes
is not a weakness, but instead an opportunity to explore personal and societal issues. The inclusion of
stereotypes within the play does not hinder the exploration of these issues, but instead deepens the
audiences understanding and awareness. Through familiar roles, such as the Oker identity, Williamson
heightens the play, and allows a production to focus on the themes being explored. By using
stereotyped characters in contrast with realistic characters and style, Williamson effectively comment
on the faults of society without the distraction of character complexity.
The Oker character is used by Williamson as a tool to allow the ... Show more content on

In this scene we tended to speak loudly, often finding ourselves shouting and making rude innuendos
and racist comments. As we workshopped the scene further, we discussed how this was a
representation of the Australian society that we had seen in the media. It could be concluded from my
workshop, that in a production of The Removalists this familiarity of character was an opportunity, as
it allows the faults within the stereotype to dominate.
As well as emphasise on the faults within the stereotype, the use of recognisable characters in a
production of The Removalists allows for an effective comment on the faults within Australian
society. Through the use of stereotyped characters, the play provides a deeper insight into the serious
personal and societal issues within the Australian community, without the distraction of character
complexity. These themes, which are explored through stereotypes, are violence, abuse of authority,
and sexism and sexuality.
The underlying messages that Australia is an inherently violent society, and that the Australian male
uses violence to resolve their problems is shown in The Removalists through the Oker identity of
Simmonds and Kenny. Stereotypes creating deeper understanding of the themes when staging this
production are presented immediately by Kenny s recognisable personality, which allows the audience
to easily accept that Kenny would abuse his wife

The Sniper By Liam O Flaherty And Shadowman From The Fear
Characterization Essay When I was younger, I used to play football. I was also tall compared to other
people in my grade and thought that I was big and bad because a lot of little kids think that way and I
was the same way. By thinking that I was all big and bad, I was trying to make myself seem
dangerous, but I was not. However, there are people who are actually dangerous, and are able to show
it instead of thinking about it and talking about it. For example, the Sniper from The Sniper by Liam O
Flaherty and Shadowman from The Fear by Charlie Higson are both dangerous because they are able
to come out alive of situations when they should have or could have died, many times. In the short
story The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His enemy had been hit (O Flaherty 4). This shows that the Sniper is a good shooter. 50 yards is quite
a ways away, and he was injured with only a revolver left, a gun that is not meant for long ranges, and
it is in the middle of the night, so he cannot see the enemy very well either. The Sniper is still able to
hit his target well, and this is impressive and shows that the sniper is dangerous because of his
abilities. The Sniper is able to come up with a plan that is risky, and then he is also able to execute the
plan as well. The plan would go to waste if he was not able to hit the enemy, but he does hit him and
that makes the Sniper very dangerous, he is able to come up with magnificent plans and is able to
execute them to. The Fear is book 3 in The Enemy series. In the series, all of the mothers and the
fathers, everyone over the age of 16, has gotten a disease them makes them into zombies, and dumb
zombies at that. The zombies also target the children, especially over any other food, and then they eat
them. At first, the adults had plenty of food because the children did not know what to do, but now the
children have gotten smarter and grouped together and have also found shelter in the main parts of
London where the story is based out of, in the Palaces, Towers, and in the Museums. This means the
adults have been forced to group together to get food, and

Essay on A Tommy Hilfiger Advertisement that Insults America
A Tommy Hilfiger Advertisement that Insults America
There are a lot different types of sitcoms, and other types of advertising out there in this day in age.
The one ad that fell upon my eyes, and pulled me enough its way to persuade me to write a paper on is
a Tommy Hilfiger Advertisement. This advertisement is a true way to show how much advertisement
has become demoralizing, and appealing to the eye. They sell values, images, and concepts of success
and worth, love, and sexuality, popularity and normalcy . (Kilbourne, 178)
Advertising has taken many different methods throughout history to attract people to its products.
Advertisers use television, newspapers, magazines, and many other methods. It uses different types of

There is absolutely no connection between these two things, yet this company still tried to make one.
At least that is what it seems like to me. I find this truly insulting. This highly cliquey, and expensive
company is just trying to make their product more charming to the eye then it really is.
Besides the obvious terrible connection they try to make to the American flag, they also seem to be
trying to show us that only cool upper class people own this fragrance. Or at least that is the kind of
person you will be if you happen to use this fragrance. As you would notice everything is portrayed
almost as perfect in the picture. The big fancy house in the background is eye alluring. All the people
in the picture are good looking people of each gender that are all wearing clique Tommy Hilfiger
clothes. So if I understand this right. If I buy this fragrance do I automatically become cool, and good
looking as this ad is portraying? It s a scam! Media images are so persuasive, they can easily become
prototypes of style, class, or even profession. (Brownmiller, 209) It s a waist of money and time to
even buy this product. Why don t they use people that are less appealing to the eye, that can t afford
the most expensive clothes, and shoes? This is another method this company is trying to use. They are
trying to advertise their fresh clothes with their fragrance. It s too bad that they fail to mention how
expensive their clothes are in this ad as well.

Dna Sequencing Essay DNA Sequencing: Algorithms that Convert Physical to Digital EFFECTS: DNA sequencing, specifically with small nanopore sequencers, have the potential to advance medicine by increasing scientific knowledge of diseases and improving medical diagnosis in remote areas. The leading sequencer today is the MinION, which is an incredible 10x3x2cm and only requires a USB connection to a computer [5]. The MinION currently can sequence viral and bacterial genomes, but will expand to include full human genomes. A 100mV voltage is applied across the protein, which draws the DNA through the pore. When a DNA nucleotide is in the pore, a sensor records the change in current as an event [1]. This change in current is stored in a FAST5 file type, which stores metadata and the events [7]. The FAST5 data files then undergo base calling correlating one of the four nucleotides in DNA with each event in Amazon Cloud with a software called Metrichor or with offline open source software called Nanocall [7]. To reduce error rates, base calling algorithms are based off the Viterbi algorithm, which determines the most probable path based upon surrounding measurements. In the case of base calling, the surrounding 5 or 6 nucleotides are examined, 5 having 1024 combinations and 6 having 4096 combinations [9]. While using 6 nucleotides doubles the analysis time, it improves the accuracy of base calling [5]. After base calling, the all analyzed events are compiled into a single complete sequence. This sequence is then compared to sequences in databases such as What s in My Pot (WIMP) or 16S, which match the sequenced DNA to a specific species [8]. Because of the high speed of the input and base calling, usually species identification is done in real time [8]. c. Stereotyping And The American Cinema Stereotyping Arabs in Hollywood Stereotyping is a very common tool used by film makers because it is a simple way of establishing a trait of a character in a movie but it provides a single sided portrait of certain people based on their sex, gender, religion, race or age. As an example the way Arabs, particularly Palestinians, are portrayed in cinema. The American cinema has painted a picture full of misconceptions about them and created a stereotype that has been exacerbated in many movies since the dawn of hollywood. Because Cinema is a powerful tool that manipulates and reshapes the thoughts of audiences by making spectators passively consume all presented material, it made it easy to manipulate the minds of people to serve a political agenda mainly the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Jack Valenti a former president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America had said: Washington and Hollywood spring from the same DNA . Since the founding of Israel in 1948, every American administration has made it clear which side it is on. On the other hand, it failed to support the millions of Palestinians who are loosing their homes, their lands, and their lives to the occupation. In the contrary, they have always been projected as the evil that wants death to Israel and America. • 19. How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction Experiment From the results that were collect throughout the experimental investigation has proved the hypothesis to only be partially right. Multiple tests were made when conducting the experiment, two clear solutions were combined at various temperatures and concentrations. The hypothesis states that by adjusting the concentration of the reactants will cause the reaction to either speed up at a higher concentration or slow down at a lower concentration. In the reaction temperature should have a similar effect on the experiment, in that increasing the temperature will cause an increase of particle movement and cause more collision, thus increasing the reaction rate. Therefore decreasing the temperature will decrease the rate of the reaction. From the results given in Tables 2 and 3 it shown that every time the concentration is halved the time is increased. When the concentrations of both KIO3 and NaHSO3 are decreased the time has increased, some concentrations having a higher increase than others. In each concentration decrease the time is at least doubled from the previous concentration time, which is therefore increasing the rate of the reaction. Although unlike the change in concentration, when the temperature of the reactants were either increased or decreased their was no significant change. As shown in table 4. When the temperature was either increased or decreased to 10°C, 30°C, 40°C and 50°C the average times are all within one second of each other. Except for when the reactants were cooled to a further 5°C the reaction time was increased by more than double the reaction time. This showing that the results from the investigation did not fully support the stated hypothesis. The standard rate law for the Iodine Clock reaction, is a first order reaction for KIO3 and a second order reaction for NaHSO3. To determine this you must substitute the values into the equations and whichever produces a straight line graph determines whether it is a first or second order reaction. In graph 1. It shows that KIO3 is a second order reaction, this is due to the second order reaction graph being straighter than the first order graph. One such example of the Alliance system would be Bismarck s Dual Alliance in 1879, Triple Alliance in 1882, and the Triple Entente in 1907. In 1878, Germany and Austria Hungary formed the Dual Alliance, in a bid to increase security. It was enlarged to the Triple Alliance when Italy joined in 1882. The Triple Alliance was a defensive military alliance where the signatories were required to provide military support to each other should one of them be engaged in a battle. This helps the driver to feel responsible on his/her driving and to maximize the car fuel efficiency. LONG TERM PLAN BEFORE LAUNCHING THE PRODUCT: Although Toyota invented this new hybrid vehicle more than ten years ago, it did not offer the car to the USA consumers immediately. The main reason was that Toyota was aware of the new technology challenges. While Toyota was on the market research and new product development, other companies were focusing on merger and acquisition. As airing prominent speeches made by powerful political figures can get one simple idea of justice to more than half the nation as it stands, it can create a strained society in which one will seem to manipulate the others aspect of just, and in return will call for protests. In the favor of qualifying that television broadcast has been both deleterious and accommodating to vote percentages, sources A, B, and F help to embellish the main points fabricated in this essay. • 30. Descriptive Essay About A Boat I almost stepped foot into what I thought to be my watery grave, but I hesitated as my foot broke the surface of the water. I thought back to the boat ride out here and my feelings of uneasiness as we rode the waves. The small boat contained six rows of benches for the tourists to sit at the front of the boat. Directly behind the last row, a captain s station sat with the controls to steer the boat. Behind the control room, or the back of the boat, sat one long bench. A metal railing encircled the entire boat, except for a small portion at the back. Resting below the open area, hooked to the side of the boat, sat a three rung ladder. I still tasted the wintergreen lifesaver I enjoyed on the car ride over here. The boat took us three miles off the north shore of Oahu, I couldn t help but admire the beauty of this paradise. Looking at the green mountains, lined with thick and healthy trees thanks to all the rain, and the exquisite white beaches, calmed me and helped me forget the anxiety that overcame me. The cold, early morning ocean breeze pulled my hair back, but no goosebumps graced my skin thanks to the warm sun shining down on us. My fellow boat passengers all seemed to appear calm while we rode on this death trap that closed the distance between us and the cage. My idea of fun consisted of reading a book or watching a movie with family and friends, not jumping into a cage surrounded by sharks. Adventure and risks are not a part of my life. The boat s captains included five men. Each man had a beard and browned skin from all their time in the sun. Sunglasses rested on each of their eyes, shielding them from the bright, hot sun. The boat engines loud roar came to a stop, only the waves crashing against the boat made a sound. The oldest of the five men spoke first. He lifted a crooked, dark finger and held it over the left side of the boat and exclaimed in a gruff voice, The cage is over there and you will need to swim in 15 yards of free water to get to it. If the sharks come at you just hit their nose. Looks of terror graced every traveler s face. The looks didn t fade until another one of the boat s crew spoke up telling us that the older man played that joke on every tour group. I studied the man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The South China Sea Essay Since the 3rd Century AD, the South China Sea has been home to countless territorial disputes between China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and other East Asian Nations. This region is so contentious because it is one of the busiest trade routes, and is home to vast natural resources. Because of the long and dense history of them, these disputes are some of the most difficult events to understand and interpret in international relations. Because the disputes deal with relative power, and the security dilemma, looking at the events through a realist lens is the most practical way of analyzing them. Although there have been small disputes dating back to the 3rd Century, conflict in the South China Sea really started to heat up in the early 1900 s. In the 19th Century, France had been heavily involved in the South China Sea because they had colonized French Indochina (present day Vietnam). However France was more concerned about control of the Gulf of Tonkin than the entire South China Sea. The early disputes were primarily over the Paracel Islands, a group of islands somewhat in between China and Vietnam. In 1902 (Serverino, 2010, p.76), China ordered the first official exploration of the islands preemptively because they were worried the the French might try to claim the islands as part of Indochina s territory. Then in the 1920 s, both Japan and France claimed to own the Paracel s. It was around this time that China said the Paracel s were the southernmost part of its territory. ... It s a popular theme for novels and movies too. And who of us wouldn t love to have a personal robot to anticipate our needs and take care of them? I even remember a production from the local planetarium about computers worldwide that networked and synergized their data. At the end of the production this networked computer system commanded, Let there be light! and a new universe was born. Artificial intelligence has as many definitions as people defining it. For some it is only a matter of a machine being able to analyze data and then take an appropriate action. But I think for most, it means that a machine can actually think, can learn, can create, can come up with original ideas that it can act like a person and be indistinguishable from a human being in its actions and thoughts. Through the use of stereotyped characters, the play provides a deeper insight into the serious personal and societal issues within the Australian community, without the distraction of character complexity. These themes, which are explored through stereotypes, are violence, abuse of authority, and sexism and sexuality. The underlying messages that Australia is an inherently violent society, and that the Australian male uses violence to resolve their problems is shown in The Removalists through the Oker identity of Simmonds and Kenny. Stereotypes creating deeper understanding of the themes when staging this production are presented immediately by Kenny s recognisable personality, which allows the audience to easily accept that Kenny would abuse his wife ... • 46. The Sniper By Liam O Flaherty And Shadowman From The Fear Characterization Essay When I was younger, I used to play football. I was also tall compared to other people in my grade and thought that I was big and bad because a lot of little kids think that way and I was the same way. By thinking that I was all big and bad, I was trying to make myself seem dangerous, but I was not. However, there are people who are actually dangerous, and are able to show it instead of thinking about it and talking about it. For example, the Sniper from The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty and Shadowman from The Fear by Charlie Higson are both dangerous because they are able to come out alive of situations when they should have or could have died, many times. In the short story The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His enemy had been hit (O Flaherty 4). This shows that the Sniper is a good shooter. 50 yards is quite a ways away, and he was injured with only a revolver left, a gun that is not meant for long ranges, and it is in the middle of the night, so he cannot see the enemy very well either. The Sniper is still able to hit his target well, and this is impressive and shows that the sniper is dangerous because of his abilities. The Sniper is able to come up with a plan that is risky, and then he is also able to execute the plan as well. The plan would go to waste if he was not able to hit the enemy, but he does hit him and that makes the Sniper very dangerous, he is able to come up with magnificent plans and is able to execute them to. • 47. Essay on A Tommy Hilfiger Advertisement that Insults America A Tommy Hilfiger Advertisement that Insults America There are a lot different types of sitcoms, and other types of advertising out there in this day in age. The one ad that fell upon my eyes, and pulled me enough its way to persuade me to write a paper on is a Tommy Hilfiger Advertisement. This advertisement is a true way to show how much advertisement has become demoralizing, and appealing to the eye. They sell values, images, and concepts of success and worth, love, and sexuality, popularity and normalcy . (Kilbourne, 178) Advertising has taken many different methods throughout history to attract people to its products. Advertisers use television, newspapers, magazines, and many other methods. It uses different types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is absolutely no connection between these two things, yet this company still tried to make one. At least that is what it seems like to me. I find this truly insulting. This highly cliquey, and expensive company is just trying to make their product more charming to the eye then it really is. Besides the obvious terrible connection they try to make to the American flag, they also seem to be trying to show us that only cool upper class people own this fragrance. Or at least that is the kind of person you will be if you happen to use this fragrance. As you would notice everything is portrayed almost as perfect in the picture. The big fancy house in the background is eye alluring. All the people in the picture are good looking people of each gender that are all wearing clique Tommy Hilfiger clothes. So if I understand this right. If I buy this fragrance do I automatically become cool, and good looking as this ad is portraying? It s a scam! Media images are so persuasive, they can easily become prototypes of style, class, or even profession. (Brownmiller, 209) It s a waist of money and time to even buy this product. Why don t they use people that are less appealing to the eye, that can t afford the most expensive clothes, and shoes? This is another method this company is trying to use. They are trying to advertise their fresh clothes with their fragrance. It s too bad that they fail to mention how expensive their clothes are in this ad as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
