Sacajawea Research Paper
Heather Martin
Sacajawea
Sacajawea is a well known American Indian woman. Her expedition with explorers Lewis and Clark
was extraordinary. She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the Lemhi
Shoshone tribe. At this time, the American territory ended at the Mississippi River. One year after the
Louisiana Purchase, President Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on an expedition that left from
St. Louis, Missouri, traveling through the US Northwest, to the Pacific Ocean (History). Children in
the Shoshone tribe were valued and seen as important members of the tribe. The children were
educated and thought to become great individuals on day. In 1800, Sacajawea along with other
Shoshone women were kidnapped by the Hidatsa tribe. Sacajawea and the other women were hauled
from the Shoshone tribe in present day Idaho to the Hidatsa tribe in present day North Dakota. It was
when she reached the Hidatsa village when Sacajawea was sold to a fur trader named Toussaint
Charbonneau as a slave. It wasn t until later when Sacajawea became Charbonneau s second wife.
Marriage was sacred to the Shoshone people, so despite the abuse Sacajawea stayed with
Charbonneau. On February 11, 1805 Sacajawea gave birth to their son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau.

Sacajawea and Charbonneau proved to be great assets to Lewis and Clark seeing as they could
translate from Shoshone to Hidatsa and from Hidatsa to French. Sacajawea was the only woman on
the journey to the Pacific Ocean. She also dove into the water when their boat capsized, and saved
some papers and tools that they needed to complete the journey. Along with translating, Sacajawea
also helped feed and pick berries for the men. While doing all of this, she carried her baby, Jean

Marketing Strategy Of Chanel
INTRODUCTION
Gabriell (Coco) Chanel founded her company in 1913 in Paris, France. The main profile of the
company at the beginnings was fashion design by Chanel herself from 1910 to 1971. She was a real
innovator on the market. After her death Karl Lagerfeld became his successor, currently he is the
mastermind behind the world famous, top selling luxury brand. Chanel soon expanded the product
range and started to design luxury hats, clothes, fragrances, accessories and cosmetics. The ideology
behind the brand is elegancy, beauty and self respect of women; Chanel has a parallelism with
personal identity embedded into luxury. This is illustrated by the current slogan of N˚5 Fragrance A
woman. A Destiny. A Parfume. (Chanel, 2014). The Chanel Fragrance called N˚5 is an ultimate
success since the very beginning it was introduced in the market as a symbol of femininity in the early
1920 s. Almost a hundred years later Chanel s N˚5 fragrance of the same composition is still top seller
even though the number of concurrent companies or products has increased significantly. Some
research says that a bottle is sold every half a minute (Vogue, 2014).

Rumours say that the fragrance consists of about 80 ingredients (Vogue, 2014) but details of
production is held great secret. The perfume debuted on the market in 1921 and could only be

the Upper class. Later on, although the strategy was not changed, the company decided to make the
perfume more available middle price strategy was adopted to expand the target audience of the

The Conscience Of Huckleberry Finn Moral Essay
In the article The Conscience of Huckleberry Finn , Jonathan Bennett discusses the conscience of
Huckleberry Finn, Heinrich Himmler and Jonathan Edwards. For the purposes of this essay I will
focus on the argument of Huckleberry Finn. Bennett concedes that that there is a relationship between
sympathy and bad morality .
Sympathy : I use this term to cover every sort of fellow feeling, as when one feels pity over someone s
loneliness, or horrified compassion over his pain, or when one feels a shrinking reluctance to act in a
way which will bring misfortune to someone else.
Bad morality a morality of one s own a set of principles of action which he sincerely assents to, acting
well or rightly or in obedience to conscience is the problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To which I would argue is a flawed perspective to have so much confidence in as it offers no feasible
solution to the moral issue at hand. In the case of the wife, the husband continues to circulate illegal
images online and begins to defile innocent children. This is due to the sympathy the wife had for her
husband, whom she loved. In the case of the child getting a vaccine, the mother spared her daughter
the two minute discomfort of receiving a flu shot but at the expense of being bed ridden for due to the
flu and recovery time during her Christmas break. Choosing sympathy is an immediate solution to a
problem that demands more. This is why Bennett is flawed in his

The Lie Society s Living
The Lie Society s Living
A man opening his front door with a briefcase in his hand, yells, Honey I m home! after a tiring day at
work has been shown in many movies and TV shows in America, but is this an accurate representation
of our society life today? Is it men who is still the head of the house or has society changed throughout
the years? Is the struggle of women being seconded with making decisions a valid point? Stephen
Marche s article Home Economic: The Link Between Work Life Balance and Income Equality
presents the argument that the major struggle in domestic life isn t men versus women or mothers
versus fathers; it s the family against money (1). Marche s ideas in the article are only a small step in
the right in the right direction, but are correct in his verdicts (might change word).
Marche begins explaining his take on the article Why Women Still Can t Have it All? by Anne Marie
Slaughter s and the book, Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg (Need explanation) (2). He believes that it is
odd men are not in the picture with the discussion of work and life and concludes that the decision
made in a family must be made together (2). Marche describes the book Lean in to show aspects of
false hope, since work and talent alone cannot bring someone closer to success for both men and
women (2). After reading the article Why Women Still Can t Have It All?, he thought of the many men
that may have it all (qtd. in 3) who, in reality, do

The Importance Of Student Privacy
Safety and privacy both are important factors on a College campus. In 2007, Seung Hui Cho, an angry
and disturbed student, shot to death 32 students and faculty of Virginia Tech, wounded 17 more, and
then killed himself. Cho was a mentally disturbed student who had suicidal and homicidal tendencies.
Ever since the Virginia Tech shooting happened, there has been debate whether safety is more
important than student privacy or not. Many people claim that privacy protection laws are the reasons
that campuses aren t safe anymore, where others believe that everyone needs personal space and a
right to have privacy. There are people who claim that student privacy should be ignored to maintain
campus safety, where others believe that every student should have the right of privacy; however,
student privacy should be protected, while alternative methods for campus safety should be taken.
Many people believe that campus safety is more important than student privacy, hence it should be
ignored. There have been incidents where disturbed students sometimes hurt themselves and
sometimes hurt others, like the Virginia Tech incident. After the incident, many people came forward
claiming that they knew that the student was disturbed, and need assistance, but due to student privacy
laws, they didn t do anything. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is being
blamed here because according to FERPA schools can t release student s health and academic records

Analysis Of Two Ears, Three Lucks By Grace Paley
Defining Grace Paley is hard since she is called many things. In short, she could be portrayed as a
political activist fighting war and injustice, a proud Jewish American, a creator of a better world
through listening, reading and teaching literature, a divorcee of two failed marriages, a hard core
feminist, a mother of a son and a daughter, a pacifist disapproving of war and nuclear weapons, a
woman, and both a postmodernist as a traditional realistic writer. Above all, her literary work as well
as her life and personality are not only fascinating but also well intertwined. Grace herself speaks of
her Two Ears, Three Lucks . She refers to her ears, one for home and one in charge of literature, and
her three lucks are in fact the meeting with an editor of Doubleday, Ken McCormick, the publication
of her short stories, and her involvement in history that happens to you while you re doing the dishes
(Paley, XI), which Grace calls her big luck . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

influenced by Russian and Yiddish accents, languages Grace speaks, feminism and its second wave,
and that due to travels on political tasks some of the people who work for me in Enormous Changes
and Later the Same Day have had to share those journeys with me. (...) But many of them are still the
companions of my big luck. She continues, Starting from the neighborhoods of my childhood and my

Over the years, he has accumulated toys, lots of toys, not only from us but also from our children and
grandchildren. One of his favorites is a one quarter size frisbee. Another is a squeaky cloth mole
looking toy and the, five or six little yellow tennis balls.
When we throw the frisbee he will chase it pick it up then wait until the ball is thrown. Slinging his
head to one side he runs to get the ball. He will then put the ball in the frisbee and bring them both
back and drop them at my feet. His special thing, however, is a brown bath towel I left on the floor.
Clamming it for his blanket it is also a tug of war toy, a bed to lie on when he s tired and was
something to chew on when he was cutting teeth. Grabbing a corner of the thing he will drag it all

The Characteristics Of The African Elephant And Other Animals
Though there are many animals, picking a favorite is not a difficult task. Of the approximate 7.77
million species of animals on Earth, the African Elephant is my favorite. These majestic creatures are
different from any other animal I ve ever known. Not many other animals possess the same traits or
qualities as they do. The endangered mammal intrigues me because of their unique appearance, their
ability to show emotions that other animals cannot, and their high intelligence level. These gentle
giants are a fascinating component of the animal kingdom. To some, the African Elephant may seem a
little odd, but they have their place in the world. The body of an African Elephant, though
unconventional in comparison to other animals, is perfect for their way of life. Their large ears give
them the ability to hear sounds up to 6.2 miles away, in ideal conditions, while also serving as a
communication device. Their unusual oval shaped feet act as a shock absorber due to the thick fatty
tissue it is made up of. This allows the elephants to walk silently because sounds are muffled under
their feet. Lastly, the trunk on an elephant is made up of eight major muscles on either side which
gives the elephant the ability to lift up to 700,000 pounds. They can also be used as a built in snorkel,
allowing the mammal travel across larger bodies of water. Not only do the trunks of elephants help
themselves, can be used to help other elephants. Elephants are one of the few animals who are

Personality Theory Of Drug Abuse
Personality theory helps to tease out the relationship between individual personality and their drug use
pattern. The theory posits that people have something wrong in the emotional or psychic life that
makes drugs attractive to them. One personality theorist believed that euphoria derived from drugs is
an easy way out for immature individuals who lack responsibility, a sense of independence, and the
capacity to postpone self indulgent gratification for the sake of attaining long term goals (Ausbel,
1980, pp.4 5). To another personality psychologist drug abuse is a defence mechanism for eliminating
feelings of inferiority or inadequacies in some individuals. Low self esteem can initiate drug abuse
and causes of low self esteem vary from individuals to individuals however common causes include
parental neglect, physical or social deformity, peer rejection and finally poor coping abilities or
mechanism that are either socially disvalued or self defeating (Kaplan, 1975, p. 129). Hans eyesenck
suggested and believed that people tend to seek out ways to modify their temperament and bring
themselves to an even and stable state. For example he reasoned that introverts, whose brains are over
excited and always gnawing at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory can provide an explanation for substance use or misuse, in that individuals choose certain
behaviour because of its perceived favourable outcome which in the case of drug abusers could be a
feeling of pleasure, mental escape, or recognition and acceptance by a preferred group. If the
behaviour results in the desired outcome or meets up to the expectation strengthening or increase in
that behaviour will then occur. It is important to note that the expectation can be maladaptive in nature
as with case of drug

Application for a Position as Resident Assistant
1. What experiences have you had which prepare you for this position (e.g perhaps as an employee,
leader, or working with people different from yourself, etc)? Working with different people is one of
things I am excited about being a RA. As I met different people with different cultures, beliefs and
worked together in the past, I am certain I know how to interact with them. These experiences taught
me how to interact people different from me flexibly, how to withstand pressure and how to use
differences as strength. Moreover I have taken several leadership positions before so benefits from
those positions would be useful in becoming a RA. A resident assistant should always be caring and
protective of his residents. He has to guide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I search for the interceptions that we share together so that we could move forwards together. If we
keep pointing out the differences, it would be similar to two people rowing a boat in two different
directions. If we can find the direction where we both want to go, we can start rowing our boat
forwards. When I became a RA, I believe that I could encourage other people to see their similarities
instead of pointing out the differences and we could create a diverse community with same goal
together to keep moving forwards.
3.What qualities or skills do you hope to develop or improve as a RA? How do you think being an RA
will contribute to your personal growth? I believe that being a RA would greatly improve my
leadership skills. What a resident assistant has to do to his residents is very similar to what a leader
would do to his subordinates. A resident assistant would care about his residents well being as a leader
would do. He would counsel them on personal and academic concerns and keep students safe and
healthy. Therefore, as a RA, I believe the greatest benefit would be the tendency to become a great
leader. Moreover I also hope to develop my problems solving and critical thinking skills because a RA
would face many problems during the semester. Everyone s problem can become a RA s problem so I
think it would be a great opportunity to learn how to tackle the problems. As a RA has to interact

A Discussion Of Herodotus And Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca
It s a New World
(A discussion of Herodotus, Cabeza de Vaca and their explorations)
When you stumble upon something new, what s your first instinct? Sharing the information with
others, soaking in the sight you re seeing, or even trying to document everything that is in front of
you. The discovery of new land, people, and their way of life is one for the record books. An event
like this will go down in history, and so will the person that did the discovering. This was the case for
Herodotus and Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca. Herodotus was born in Halicarnassus, what today is
known as turkey. He is considered by most to have been the first Greek historian, therefore the first
European historian. He was a great traveler, visiting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His travels lead him more around different parts of America and not different countries. An article,
titled Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca: The Great Pedestrian of North and South America, briefly
describes some of the whereabouts of Cabeza de Vaca as he traveled around America. All five rafts
eventually wrecked along the coast of Texas... Soon Cabeza de Vaca was traveling into the
southeastern Texas mainland... Cabeza de Vaca and the other castaways decided to escape their Indian
captors and marched south and west hoping to find their Spanish compatriots in central Mexico,
(Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca: The Great Pedestrian of North and South America). From this portion
of the article, it is understood that Cabeza de Vaca did traveling, just as Herodotus did. Both men were
also known for their firsts. Cabeza de Vaca was one of the first to visit America and stay with the
tribes that inhabited land. Also one of the first from his country to document what he had seen while
there. Herodotus was also known for his firsts. Scott W. Nixon, in his article, elaborates on this.
Herodotus, is thought of as the first Greek and thereby the first Western historian...Those who did
archaeological exploration in Egypt and Mesopotamia found Herodotus writings on these subjects
useful, (Nixon). His first were very important not only for that time but for people in the future as
well. Nixon continues by saying, His writings also became valuable to biblical scholars in their

The Benefits Of Legalizing Marijuana
The legality of cannabis varies from country to country. Possession of cannabis is illegal in most
countries and has been since the beginning of widespread cannabis prohibition in the late 1930s.
However, many countries have decriminalized the possession of small quantities of cannabis,
particularly in North America, South America and Europe. Furthermore, possession is legal or
effectively legal in the Netherlands, Uruguay and in the U.S. states of Colorado and Washington as the
federal government has indicated that it will not attempt to block enactment of legalization in those
states. In December 2013, Uruguay became the first country in the world to legalize the sale,
cultivation, and distribution of cannabis. There are many different types ... Show more content on

Cannabis is the third widely used drug in the United States following alcohol and tobacco even though
it is currently illegal. Because marijuana is so used so much and is illegal it plays a big role in the War
on Drugs. War on Drugs is a term commonly applied to a campaign of prohibition of drugs, military
aid, and military intervention, with the purpose being to define and reduce the illegal drug trade in the
United States (Giroux Pollock). The purpose is to set drug policies that are intended to decrease the
production, distribution, and consumption of illegal drugs. Because marijuana is illegal the price of the
final product increases to very high values because of the black market status, which together with the
powerful effects of drug addiction causes users to commit crimes in order to fund their addiction. If
weed became legal and regulated in the United States, the price would decrease leading to the
decrease in the illegal drug industry. This would also decrease the crimes committed by both drug
sellers and drug users. The government spends a lot of money on trying to stop citizens from using
marijuana while there are more important things the government should be spending their money on
such as social programs. Another pro of marijuana is that it has no physiological addiction while other
drugs that are legal such as tobacco have a higher physiological addiction rate than cocaine. Also if
marijuana becomes

Prostitution, The Act Of Prostitution
Prostitution, the act of providing or receiving sexual acts, between a prostitute and a client, in
exchange for money or some other form of remuneration (Hock 557). The idea of exchanging sex for
valuables has been seen since the beginning of human society; the first reported data about prostitution
was reported around 3000 B.C.E in one of the first known civilizations, Mesopotamia (Caraboi and
Fierbinteanu 362). Also, prostitution is often referred to as the world s oldest profession. Today, even
though prostitution is illegal in most parts of the world, it is still prevalent worldwide with many
different types of prostitutes and different ways to exchange sexual services for payment. An example
of a type of prostitute is brothel workers; brothel workers work in a house of prostitution, a brothel,
which are normally in areas where prostitution is not criminalized (Hock 560). Like prostitution,
human trafficking has been around for thousands of years and is still present today.
The United Nations on Drug and Crime (UNODC) is the international agency that handles issues
about human trafficking and other organized crimes. The UNODC defines human trafficking as the
recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force
or other forms of coercion, of abduction, or fraud, or deception ( What is Human Trafficking? ). The
transatlantic slave trade is an example of human trafficking; slave traders transported millions

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd ) Essay
The time that they should be spending to be better members of our community is therefore spent in
dealing with unrealistic means of decreasing false anxiety and impractical fears. Thus, it is very
important for people with obsessive compulsive disorders to seek treatment to help them ease
symptoms and become more effective in their daily lives.
Treatment for OCD
OCD treatment may not always result to cure, however, it can become a big help in decreasing and
controlling symptoms so that they will no longer affect our daily lives. Some OCD sufferers may need
a lifetime treatment to keep the disorder in control.
A person with obsessive compulsive disorder may choose between two main treatments: medications
and psychotherapy. Though you can choose which one of them suits your needs best, a combination of
the two is often found to be most effective in dealing with OCD symptoms.
Medications
Psychiatric medications tremendously helps in controlling obsessions and compulsions among
patients. Usually, antidepressants are used first to treat the symptoms before proceeding to another line
of medications if antidepressants do not work.
It is important that the antidepressant you take is prescribed by a health care professional and is
approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as drugs for OCD treatment. Usual
medications that may be prescribed are:
Sertraline for children 6 years and older, and for adults
Fluoxetine for children 7 years and older, and for adults

definitions. One of the main definitions is, that which is morally right; righteousness (Google 1). This
means that being good is doing the right thing. If being good means to do the right thing then why are
there orphanages, wars, homeless people, and police? If people were good, then they would do the
right thing and adopt children in orphanages. If people were good, then countries would help each
other instead of fighting. If people were good, then there would not be homeless people on the streets
not being helped. If people were good, then there would not be policemen trying to stop murderers or

The Dred Scott Decision Case
The Dred Scott Decision was a famous Supreme Court case, deciding over the decision of slavery was
legal in the newly discovered territory. It debated over the decision of whether it was legal for
slaveholders to take their property into the newly formed territory or whether their property should be
freed in this process. The ruling concluded in 1857 and affirmed that slaveholders should have the
right to take their slaves to the west . The decision took three attempts to finally reach a conclusion
about whether an African American living in recently developed land should be considered free or not.
Below I will discuss the life of Dred Scott, the Scott v. Emerson Case, the Scott v. Sandford Case, the
eradicating of slavery, and the path to black citizenship in the proceeding decades. Dred Scott was an
enslaved African American who was born in Southampton County, Virginia. He and his original
owner, Peter Blow, moved from Virginia to St. Louis to attempt farming. Shortly after his owner s
death on June 23, 1832 in Missouri, Scott believed that this transaction should entitle him to his
freedom. However, an assistant surgeon of the U.S. Army, named Dr. John Emerson, purchased Scott.
In 1836, Emerson moved to a fort in Wisconsin Territory and took Scott with him. After living in free
soil with his owner, who was an abolitionist, a test case was declared and Scott sued for his freedom,
arguing that his removal to Illinois should end his servitude, because slavery was not

Definition Essay On Patriarchy
Guess What? You re a Feminist! Feminism is not a radical movement or a fringe movement or an
embarrassment or a fraud. Feminism is simple. The patriarchy does exist. To identify as a feminist is
to acknowledge that women are people, and, as such, women deserve the same social, economic, and
political rights and opportunities as other styles of people (i.e., men people). To be a feminist is also to
acknowledge that the world is not, currently, a fair and just and safe place for women to exist. Because
it is not. Obviously (see: everything ever). To deny these things makes you, at worst, a bad person who
hates women, including but not limited to: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Aniston,

attract my eyes. His hands really impress me and I really like his hands. This gives me an idea that to
put my own hands on the social software and see that will people love my hands in this era. Now, I
think the answer is yes. There are more than 6,000 people like my hands in that social software.
Egon Schiele used different action of his hands to show his expression and maybe his attitude to the
era. That makes me pay attention to Egon Schiele s life and experience, and then I am interested in
Egon Schiele s whole life. Although he do not had a long life, I still want to explain the meaning of his
short life.
Egon Schiele was an Austrian painter, who is the disciple of Gustav Klimt. In the early 20th century,
Egon Schiele was one of the major figurative painters at that era. His artwork is famous for its
intensity and also its raw sexuality. For example, the paintings of naked women and the many self
portraits he produced, including naked self portraits. The twisted body shapes and the expressive line
of Egon Schiele s paintings and drawings marked him as a pioneer of Expressionism in the early 20th
century.
During his short life, there are a huge number of events happens, and these events

The Main Elements Of Society For Aristotle And Plato
Provence Barnouin 10/14/16
Prof. Hittinger
Contemporary Civilization: Idea Paper 1
Households (or families) are one of the key elements of society for both Aristotle and Plato. Family is
the first form in society of association between men as it answers man s natural needs, and instincts.
As Aristotle explains, the coupling which necessity gives rise [to] is that between those who are
unable to exist without one another, in other words man is a being that is, by nature, social and
political. Association is a natural phenomenon, which declines in interdependent forms such as the
family, the village, and finally the city. However, it would be an error to assume that each form is not
fundamentally different from one another. In Politics, Aristotle criticizes Plato s assumption that a city
must strive to be a unit, because beyond a certain point, city will be reduced to family and family to
individual. [Book II, 1261a] Indeed, if a city state were to strive towards unity it would resemble a
household, since he holds the household to be of higher degree in unity, but by assumption, a city state
is different that a household.
By uncovering and comparing the differences between the city and the household in Politics, Ethics
and The Republic, we will first explain Aristotle s criticism and Plato s potential response to his
student. This will lead us to understand the relationship between the city state and the household and
explain whether the family is a natural

The Test Of Emotional Intelligence Test
Reflection Paper
It is always an eye opener to learn something about yourself that you did not know. I found the results
of the quizzes to be very interesting. The first test was a test on how you read people. We would like to
think that we can look at someone and decide not only their mood but also if they are a good person or
not, but is that always the case? The second test was an emotional intelligence test. It evaluates such
things as self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. Through
taking both of these tests, it gives tools to better yourself.
In the first test, How Well Do You Read Other People?, it gives you a series of faces and you are
supposed to decide what their mood is. I have always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Page 2 different categories based on your answers. The four quadrants are self awareness, self
management, social awareness, and relationship management. My scores for the Emotional
Intelligence Test were as follows;
Self awareness 6
Self Management 5
Social Awareness 7
Relationship Management 4
After reading the descriptions of the quadrants it, it shows both strength and weaknesses I have and
gives me an idea of what I need to work on or adjust to help me become more successful.
The first category is self awareness. It is made up of three competencies; they are emotional self
awareness, accurate self assessment, and self confidence. These sub categories allow you to be
critically self reflective, which helps in improving yourself. In this categories I only got a six out of
ten which leads me to believe that my emotions play a part in my work and personal life, and that I
need to work on recognizing how to read and understand my emotions. It also shows I may be
unrealistic about my personal evaluation of my strengths and weaknesses. And lastly, that I may not
recognize my own positive self worth. I think my strength in this category is my self confidence. As I
may not always allot for it, I do know I have self worth. I am confident in my work abilities and that
shows, it also shows that I am less confident in my personal life. My weakness in

Wicca Witchcraft
Witchcraft has been a controversial belief for many centuries, dating back to the 1400 s. It was a time
of many deaths, fear, and paranoia. Today it is a widely known religion known as Wicca, the Craft, or
the Craft of the Wise. Wicca is an earth centered belief, and it has a long history of persecution. Wicca
followers are known as Wiccan, Pagan, or they can recognize themselves as witches. Most followers
worship in a small group, known as a Coven or they worship alone. This religion is based on the belief
that all things revolve around the Earth and before its creation the All existed. The All consists of the
Goddess, a female spirit created before the Earth and because she was alone she created her other half,

Methods to Determine Cable Size under Harmonic Condition
In many methods, skin and proximity effects are very important. Another important parameter is
alternative current (a.c.) resistance, rac. This parameter is frequency dependence. It can be shown that
rac increased with the increased of frequency (Du, Burnett, (2000), (Demoulias, Labridis, Dokopoulos
Gouramanis, 2007), (Desmet, Vanalme, Belmans, Van Dommelen, 2008). Some research papers used
value from published graph such as by The Okonite Company and Anixter Inc. (The Okonite
Company, 2001), (Anixter Inc., n.d.). However upon inspection, it was found that the graph is
produced on the basis of fundamental frequency of 60 Hz and using imperial unit. Some other sources,
although on 50 Hz as fundamental basis, give limited data such as (Moore, 1997), (Coates, n.d). As an
alternative, formula from IEC 287 1 1 was used to calculate the rac (IEC, 1994).
Skin and proximity effects are part of formula to calculate cable ampacity known as Neher McGrath
(NM) method in 1957 (Blackledge, O Connell, Barrett Sung, 2012, 2012). However this method,
according to the authors, could not handle a range of harmonic frequencies. In 1991, Ajit Hiranandani
(AH) introduced a way to calculate temperature and ampacity of a cable using generalised finite
difference model (Hiranandani, 1991). Hiranandani (1995) produced a paper which tackles the
problem of size selection for cable under harmonic condition. In this paper, he introduced term such as
harmonic signature (HS), with reference to

Analysis Of Jia Chien s Influence On The International...
Jia Chien is the middle daughter who is ambitious in advancing her career as a corporate airline
executive, having little time for her family and desiring to quickly move out of the house. Jia Chien s
position shows how women in modern Taiwan occupy jobs in essentially all job markets, yet the fact
that she is an executive contrasts even the modern woman gender role where women do not typically
own managerial positions (Gold 1114). Additionally, the Taiwanese airline she works for is expanding
into new countries by acquiring new airline routes in the international market (Dilley 48) which
compares to how Taiwan desired to globalize through markets such as the United States. However the
same statement diverges from the notion that western nations are the dominant forces in globalization
and instead, the Taiwanese are now the perpetrators of globalization, exerting its own influence on the
international market. It is then revealed that Jia Chien originally wanted to pursue the culinary arts,
actually having much talent for cooking, but in the past her father Mr. Chu forbade her from becoming
a chef and even from being in the kitchen. Mr. Chu s reasoning is that Jia Chien should have a better
life with a university education than him, leading to Jia Chien s bitterness to her father and
complicating their relationship. Mr. Chu s seemingly oppressive behavior symbolizes Taiwan s
traditional family values as he has power over his daughter and dictates what she can or cannot do.

Taking a Look at Muscular Dystrophy
The first written account of Muscular Dystrophy occurred in 1830, composed by Sir Charles Bell
(Audrey S. Penn, 2001). His essay, along with many other accounts, display instances of younger boys
getting progressively weaker, losing the ability to walk, and dying at extremely early ages. These
diagnostics continued to become more frequent up into the late 1800s and early 1900s. As these
symptoms were being researched and observed it soon became prevalent that this disease can affect all
people of any sex or age. Muscular Dystrophy (or MD) is a general term representing more than 30
inherited diseases and subcategories that affect the skeletal, and in some cases involuntary, muscle
regions (Hegde, 2012). The gene is recessively X linked, meaning that females are carriers of the
mutation even if they do not have the disease, and males will either have it or not. The X linked
characteristic of MD is the reason why most types are seen more abundantly in males. MD can lead to
the symptoms seen in the 1800s; inability to walk or function properly, substantial weakness, and
potentially death. The reason behind differencing types of MD is because no one case is the same;
they are categorized based of the areas of the body that are affected, the ages that symptoms become
present, and the level of intensity of the disease. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is present only in
boys, from birth; however, symptoms do not usually show until the ages of 3 5. Another widely
existing disease is

Discrimination Against Gay Discrimination
Discrimination against, and persecution of, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ)
people is as widespread as it is timeless. While conditions in society have improved, especially in
recent years, it is not hard to find an example of some sort of harassment endured by an LGBTQ
person. Different justifications exist in the minds of those who seek to harass and condemn: religious
beliefs, personal taste, familial responsibilities, nationalistic unity, cultural expectations, the list goes
on and on. Shielded with these, persecutors strike against the LGBTQ community, wielding religious
and governmental institutions like weapons. The casualties of this so called culture war are high:

Although this is a monumental achievement, it tends to give a false sense that the battle is won and
discrimination has been toppled, however nothing could be further from the truth. Gay adoption is still
a contentious issue. In Florida, for example, state laws prohibit any homosexual from adopting a child.
Florida prohibits second parent adoptions as well. () Even today we still have LGBTQ members
getting arrested over their private consensual practices. A web journal demonstrated while the sodomy
laws have been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, they still pose a very active threat for
LGBTQ members in rural Southern communities. () Many big legal issues still exist that LGBTQ
people have to navigate carefully around.
Personally: Raising children
Workplace discrimination still occurs towards members of the LGBTQ community which negatively
impacts all aspects of their life. Being discriminated against at the workplace effects economic
stability not to mention how it can bring many psychological issues. Congress has been working on
passing the Employment Non Discrimination Act require an employer judge a homosexual based on
how well their skill are performed at the job, qualifications, and the quality of their work. We can see
how being discriminated against can cause job instability and high turnover, which promotes a greater
unemployment and poverty rates. Gays also tend to experience a

Cognitive Dissonance Examples
Cognitive Dissonance
Overview the topic and define relevant terms in your own words.
When someone makes a decision or takes an action that goes against their personal beliefs, they
experience a sense of discomfort; this discomfort felt is due to cognitive dissonance. People may
values and beliefs that they live by. A person who believes that smoking cigarettes are bad is unlikely
to smoke a cigarette; if they do smoke a cigarette than they will experience some discomfort. The
action of smoking is conflicting with their idea that smoking is bad; this creates cognitive dissonance.

The idea is applicable in everyday life; we can use cognitive dissonance to help people make better
decisions throughout the day. When we finish using the bathroom we often see a sign asking us to
wash our hands to prevent disease and infection. When someone thinks to not wash their hands but
sees the sign, they will experience cognitive dissonance. To get rid of this discomfort they will
probably choose to wash their hands. Small interactions like these help better the world; by placing
small changes like these in someone s environment we can remind people of their morals and values.
Explain how the topic applies to your own life or to someone that you know.

How Do You Explain The Steps Involved In The Urinary System
To explain how diabetes affects the different systems, we need to know how the act normally. The
urinary system normal function is to maintain the acid base balance, conserve fluids, regulate the
amount of salts and water in the blood and eliminate liquid waste, known as urea. The urinary system
works together with the lungs, skin and intestines to maintain the balance of chemicals and water in
the body. The typical adult urinates approximately twenty seven to sixty eight fluid once a day of
urine. The urinary system includes 2 kidneys (the primary organs in the urinary system), ureters, a
bladder and urethra. The kidney is where the filtration occurs, it balances salts and waters. The kidney

Secretion is when ions pass from the capillaries into the renal tubule, this becomes urine. The urine
passes through the ureters, and drain into the bladder. The bladder is where urine is collected and
stored until an urge to release it. When emptying the bladder sphincter open and urine flows, which
travels down the urethra that passes outside the body. Glucose should not be filtered out of the body
by the kidneys; therefore, if glucose is found in the urine it is a symptom that the cells aren t utilizing
the glucose affectively. The high amount of glucose in the urine provide an increase production of
bacterial and fungal growth. Urinary tract infections and yeast infections are two of the most common
bacterial and fungal infections that can be cause by type II diabetes. The increase urinary tract
infections can also be due to having a dysfunctional bladder that contract poorly. The poor contraction
allows for urine to remain in static pools for long periods of time. This provides luxurious ponds for
bacteria to grow in. Bladder problems are another problem for diabetic. An overactive bladder is
common this is caused by damaged nerves that send signals to the bladder at the wrong time, this
causes the muscles to contract without

Cormac Mccarthy The Road Evil
Currently, it seems that popular literature is filled with post apocalyptic novels. These books
sometimes venture into the fantasy and sci fi genres, but always they portray the author s idea of what
humanity could look like after the world as we know it has ended. More importantly, they serve as
mirrors for the vices currently plaguing society, demonstrating how these faults metastasize into major
forces of evil when placed in the context of desperate circumstances. The Road, Cormac McCarthy s
harrowing description of a father son pair slogging through the desolation of an unknown apocalypse,
is no exception. McCarthy sets himself apart by emphasizing the nature of good and evil, utilizing
flawless prose, and relentlessly confronting the reader with the inescapability of mortality. Truly, The
Road is a brutally honest commentary on humanity s capacity for cruelty and the never ending
struggle towards goodness.

Is humankind inherently evil? McCarthy s answer to this question seems to be a resounding yes . In
the absence of accountability and any semblance of society, the remainder of the population has
elected that the only rule is every man for himself . Can the reader truly blame them, though? The
more desperate and frightened a person is, the less they rational and selfless they tend to be in their
decision making. In the wake of a world destroying disaster, is there any point in maintaining any
behaviors that do not immediately contribute to survival? Is compassion still relevant in a barren
world? The father, much more practical and pessimistic than his boy, seems to struggle with this
philosophical debate. Contrary to this, they boy maintains his position of beautiful, and perhaps futile,
love for other living things. He is the defender of lost humanity. How ironic that the only species
capable of evil uses its own name, humanity, as a synonym for goodness and

Persuasive Essay On Winning Games
The thrill of winning a trophy for the first time is always memorable, however, it brings up the
question: Is receiving an award for participating just as exciting? Participation awards are a topic
highly debated among those of all ages, with none agreeing on a single answer. Individuals who are
under the impression that they are essential believe they boost a child s confidence and self esteem.
This may be true in some cases, but these trophies could be doing more harm than good. Although in
the moment they may appear to be wholesome, they have a lasting effect on children as they grow
older. Many children put loads of effort into winning awards, which is belittled by participation
trophies that are not only unhelpful and unrewarding, but don t teach them the important values
learned by losing.
Of course, participation trophies take away from the true meaning of receiving an award and enjoying
the sport. Her daughter rarely showed up for her soccer team. She had a terrible attitude, Dweck says.
In spite of that, at the end she got a giant trophy and would have been devastated had she not (Turner).
Children who put no effort into the sport or activity they have joined still receive an award for being a
part of it. This is extremely unfair to those who actually worked hard to make their team successful
because it rewards the kids who were barely even engaged in the sport. We need look no further than

Character Development Of Hamlet
Hamlet s character drastically develops over the first four acts of Hamlet, and his character
development is most evident through the soliloquys he delivers throughout the play. The most
character development can be seen from the first soliloquy, to the second, the third, the sixth, and the
seventh and final soliloquy. Hamlet s inner conflict with his thoughts and his actions are well analyzed
in his soliloquys, as well as his struggles with life and death, and his very own existence. He begins
the play wondering what purpose he has in life now that his father is dead and his mother has
remarried to his uncle. After finding out foul play was involved in his father s death, he is motivated
by revenge. Finally, he wonders how he can enact his revenge while continuously overthinking and
overanalyzing his actions. In Act I, scene II, Hamlet delivers his first soliloquy after his mother and
new step dad/uncle Claudius try to convince him to get over the death of his father, and to accept their
rather hasty marriage. In his first soliloquy, Hamlet questions whether or not he should kill himself,
and curses God for making suicide a sin. Hamlet is also fixated on his mother s rushed marriage to his
uncle, not even a month after his father s death. Hamlet says, A little month, or ere those shoes were
old/with which she followed my poor father s body (Lines 146 147). He is very hooked on the fact
that his mother wore the same shoes to her wedding as she did to her husband s funeral, not even
having time in between to break the shoes in. Hamlet wishes he could say whatever he wants and
express his disgust about his mother s marriage and his hatred for his uncle, but since his uncle is the
reigning King of Denmark, he has to hold his tongue and show respect for the king. This first
soliloquy introduces the reader to Hamlet s indecisiveness and over analytical mindset. Hamlet is
confronted by the ghostly figure of his father in Act I, scene V. Hamlet s father informs him that he
had been murdered by Claudius. King Hamlet tells his son to avenge his death, but doesn t specify
how. King Hamlet also tells Hamlet to leave his mother out of the revenge plot, as King Hamlet
believes Claudius seduced Queen Gertrude. King

Michael Jackson s Life Overshadowed His Music Career

considered one of the most popular and reputable organizations that deal with the conservation of
nature. Established in 1961 in Sweden, its purpose has been the same since the beginning. This
purpose, as cited on WWF s Canadian website˚, is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing
threats to the diversity of life on Earth. Their website will be inspected to affirm whether or not this
organization and its website, encompasses three main aspects. These aspects include authority,
accuracy and completion, and technicalities. The information provided on the website will be analyzed

Plan of Investigation
While watching National Hockey League (NHL) games, I often heard the play by play announcer
mention at the start of the third and final period how it would be tough for a team to come back from a
one goal deficit. This led me to wonder just how difficult it was mathematically, and how much
previous periods affected the final one. In this project, I will investigate whether the scores at the end
of the first period affect the final score of NHL games.
I will gather the scores of 200 hockey games between 2005 2008 from the nhl.com website. I chose
these years because the type of hockey before and after the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is
different in terms of goals scored per game, with more goals scored per ... Show more content on

The trendline, known as the line of best fit or the least squares regression line, shows the linear
equation which best explains the sums up the data s trend. The formula on the right is the formula of
the line of best fit.
As can be observed from these plots, teams who win at the end of the first period have a much larger
range of data, with 26 separate points versus 14 separate points on Team B s graph. Since the scatter
plot does not use a thicker dot when numerous teams share one place on the plot, this suggests that
teams who lose at the end of the first period tend to have similar scores, as they have twelve fewer
points than teams who win.
If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X range must be smaller than that of the winning
team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A s points are on 3 or 4 on the X axis, it is logical for Team
A to have a larger range. However, even disregarding 3 and 4 on the X axis, Team A s range is still
larger than that of Team B s. There is a greater spread of data on the Y axis of Team A, as well.
Note that when Team A scores one goal in the first period, there are instances of them ending the third
period with five or six goals. However, when Team B scores one goal in the first period, the most
goals they ended up with is only four. This pattern is repeated when the teams score two goals in the
first period. With Team A, there are instance(s) when they end up with seven; with

Pearl Harbor Open Door Policy
Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan, the war started in China in 1937. The war in China was
between China and Japan. Japan had marched into China and declaring an all out attack on China
specifically for their resources and supplies. Since Japan relied on international trade for their
resources, it was vital for Japan to establish themselves as a powerful nation in order to receive the
resources that they needed. However, their actions that they had done in China had violated the open
door policy that was enacted by the US for the purpose of equal trading opportunities and business in
China. Japan was in a state where they felt that they needed to take control of China because their
economy was declining. If Japan didn t take actions

  • 2. Sacajawea Research Paper Heather Martin Sacajawea Sacajawea is a well known American Indian woman. Her expedition with explorers Lewis and Clark was extraordinary. She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the Lemhi Shoshone tribe. At this time, the American territory ended at the Mississippi River. One year after the Louisiana Purchase, President Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on an expedition that left from St. Louis, Missouri, traveling through the US Northwest, to the Pacific Ocean (History). Children in the Shoshone tribe were valued and seen as important members of the tribe. The children were educated and thought to become great individuals on day. In 1800, Sacajawea along with other Shoshone women were kidnapped by the Hidatsa tribe. Sacajawea and the other women were hauled from the Shoshone tribe in present day Idaho to the Hidatsa tribe in present day North Dakota. It was when she reached the Hidatsa village when Sacajawea was sold to a fur trader named Toussaint Charbonneau as a slave. It wasn t until later when Sacajawea became Charbonneau s second wife. Marriage was sacred to the Shoshone people, so despite the abuse Sacajawea stayed with Charbonneau. On February 11, 1805 Sacajawea gave birth to their son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. When Sacajawea was pregnant with Jean Baptiste, Lewis and Clark had just arrived to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sacajawea and Charbonneau proved to be great assets to Lewis and Clark seeing as they could translate from Shoshone to Hidatsa and from Hidatsa to French. Sacajawea was the only woman on the journey to the Pacific Ocean. She also dove into the water when their boat capsized, and saved some papers and tools that they needed to complete the journey. Along with translating, Sacajawea also helped feed and pick berries for the men. While doing all of this, she carried her baby, Jean Baptiste, on her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Marketing Strategy Of Chanel INTRODUCTION Gabriell (Coco) Chanel founded her company in 1913 in Paris, France. The main profile of the company at the beginnings was fashion design by Chanel herself from 1910 to 1971. She was a real innovator on the market. After her death Karl Lagerfeld became his successor, currently he is the mastermind behind the world famous, top selling luxury brand. Chanel soon expanded the product range and started to design luxury hats, clothes, fragrances, accessories and cosmetics. The ideology behind the brand is elegancy, beauty and self respect of women; Chanel has a parallelism with personal identity embedded into luxury. This is illustrated by the current slogan of N˚5 Fragrance A woman. A Destiny. A Parfume. (Chanel, 2014). The Chanel Fragrance called N˚5 is an ultimate success since the very beginning it was introduced in the market as a symbol of femininity in the early 1920 s. Almost a hundred years later Chanel s N˚5 fragrance of the same composition is still top seller even though the number of concurrent companies or products has increased significantly. Some research says that a bottle is sold every half a minute (Vogue, 2014). LITERATURE REVIEW I work with multiple archive and contemporary resources accessible from the internet which deal with the success of Chanel. Using these documents from the database of Time, The ... The perfume debuted on the market in 1921 and could only be purchased at the Chanel boutiques. Its marketing successfully identified it with luxury and privilege of the Upper class. Later on, although the strategy was not changed, the company decided to make the perfume more available middle price strategy was adopted to expand the target audience of the ... • 4. The Conscience Of Huckleberry Finn Moral Essay In the article The Conscience of Huckleberry Finn , Jonathan Bennett discusses the conscience of Huckleberry Finn, Heinrich Himmler and Jonathan Edwards. For the purposes of this essay I will focus on the argument of Huckleberry Finn. Bennett concedes that that there is a relationship between sympathy and bad morality . Sympathy : I use this term to cover every sort of fellow feeling, as when one feels pity over someone s loneliness, or horrified compassion over his pain, or when one feels a shrinking reluctance to act in a way which will bring misfortune to someone else. Bad morality a morality of one s own a set of principles of action which he sincerely assents to, acting well or rightly or in obedience to conscience is the problem ... In the case of the wife, the husband continues to circulate illegal images online and begins to defile innocent children. This is due to the sympathy the wife had for her husband, whom she loved. In the case of the child getting a vaccine, the mother spared her daughter the two minute discomfort of receiving a flu shot but at the expense of being bed ridden for due to the flu and recovery time during her Christmas break. • 5. The Lie Society s Living The Lie Society s Living A man opening his front door with a briefcase in his hand, yells, Honey I m home! after a tiring day at work has been shown in many movies and TV shows in America, but is this an accurate representation of our society life today? Is it men who is still the head of the house or has society changed throughout the years? Is the struggle of women being seconded with making decisions a valid point? Stephen Marche s article Home Economic: The Link Between Work Life Balance and Income Equality presents the argument that the major struggle in domestic life isn t men versus women or mothers versus fathers; it s the family against money (1). Marche s ideas in the article are only a small step in the right in the right direction, but are correct in his verdicts (might change word). Marche begins explaining his take on the article Why Women Still Can t Have it All? by Anne Marie Slaughter s and the book, Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg (Need explanation) (2). He believes that it is odd men are not in the picture with the discussion of work and life and concludes that the decision made in a family must be made together (2). Marche describes the book Lean in to show aspects of false hope, since work and talent alone cannot bring someone closer to success for both men and women (2). In 2007, Seung Hui Cho, an angry and disturbed student, shot to death 32 students and faculty of Virginia Tech, wounded 17 more, and then killed himself. Cho was a mentally disturbed student who had suicidal and homicidal tendencies. Ever since the Virginia Tech shooting happened, there has been debate whether safety is more important than student privacy or not. Many people claim that privacy protection laws are the reasons that campuses aren t safe anymore, where others believe that everyone needs personal space and a right to have privacy. There are people who claim that student privacy should be ignored to maintain campus safety, where others believe that every student should have the right of privacy; however, student privacy should be protected, while alternative methods for campus safety should be taken. Many people believe that campus safety is more important than student privacy, hence it should be ignored. There have been incidents where disturbed students sometimes hurt themselves and sometimes hurt others, like the Virginia Tech incident. After the incident, many people came forward claiming that they knew that the student was disturbed, and need assistance, but due to student privacy laws, they didn t do anything. In short, she could be portrayed as a political activist fighting war and injustice, a proud Jewish American, a creator of a better world through listening, reading and teaching literature, a divorcee of two failed marriages, a hard core feminist, a mother of a son and a daughter, a pacifist disapproving of war and nuclear weapons, a woman, and both a postmodernist as a traditional realistic writer. Above all, her literary work as well as her life and personality are not only fascinating but also well intertwined. Grace herself speaks of her Two Ears, Three Lucks . She refers to her ears, one for home and one in charge of literature, and her three lucks are in fact the meeting with an editor of Doubleday, Ken McCormick, the publication of her short stories, and her involvement in history that happens to you while you re doing the dishes (Paley, XI), which Grace calls her big luck . ... When we throw the frisbee he will chase it pick it up then wait until the ball is thrown. Slinging his head to one side he runs to get the ball. Of the approximate 7.77 million species of animals on Earth, the African Elephant is my favorite. These majestic creatures are different from any other animal I ve ever known. Not many other animals possess the same traits or qualities as they do. The endangered mammal intrigues me because of their unique appearance, their ability to show emotions that other animals cannot, and their high intelligence level. These gentle giants are a fascinating component of the animal kingdom. To some, the African Elephant may seem a little odd, but they have their place in the world. The body of an African Elephant, though unconventional in comparison to other animals, is perfect for their way of life. Their large ears give them the ability to hear sounds up to 6.2 miles away, in ideal conditions, while also serving as a communication device. Their unusual oval shaped feet act as a shock absorber due to the thick fatty tissue it is made up of. This allows the elephants to walk silently because sounds are muffled under their feet. Lastly, the trunk on an elephant is made up of eight major muscles on either side which gives the elephant the ability to lift up to 700,000 pounds. They can also be used as a built in snorkel, allowing the mammal travel across larger bodies of water. Not only do the trunks of elephants help themselves, can be used to help other elephants. The theory posits that people have something wrong in the emotional or psychic life that makes drugs attractive to them. One personality theorist believed that euphoria derived from drugs is an easy way out for immature individuals who lack responsibility, a sense of independence, and the capacity to postpone self indulgent gratification for the sake of attaining long term goals (Ausbel, 1980, pp.4 5). To another personality psychologist drug abuse is a defence mechanism for eliminating feelings of inferiority or inadequacies in some individuals. Low self esteem can initiate drug abuse and causes of low self esteem vary from individuals to individuals however common causes include parental neglect, physical or social deformity, peer rejection and finally poor coping abilities or mechanism that are either socially disvalued or self defeating (Kaplan, 1975, p. 129). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cannabis is the third widely used drug in the United States following alcohol and tobacco even though it is currently illegal. Because marijuana is so used so much and is illegal it plays a big role in the War on Drugs. War on Drugs is a term commonly applied to a campaign of prohibition of drugs, military aid, and military intervention, with the purpose being to define and reduce the illegal drug trade in the United States (Giroux Pollock). The purpose is to set drug policies that are intended to decrease the production, distribution, and consumption of illegal drugs. Because marijuana is illegal the price of the final product increases to very high values because of the black market status, which together with the powerful effects of drug addiction causes users to commit crimes in order to fund their addiction. If weed became legal and regulated in the United States, the price would decrease leading to the decrease in the illegal drug industry. This would also decrease the crimes committed by both drug sellers and drug users. The government spends a lot of money on trying to stop citizens from using marijuana while there are more important things the government should be spending their money on such as social programs. Prostitution, The Act Of Prostitution Prostitution, the act of providing or receiving sexual acts, between a prostitute and a client, in exchange for money or some other form of remuneration (Hock 557). The idea of exchanging sex for valuables has been seen since the beginning of human society; the first reported data about prostitution was reported around 3000 B.C.E in one of the first known civilizations, Mesopotamia (Caraboi and Fierbinteanu 362). Also, prostitution is often referred to as the world s oldest profession. • 23. The Main Elements Of Society For Aristotle And Plato Provence Barnouin 10/14/16 Prof. Hittinger Contemporary Civilization: Idea Paper 1 Households (or families) are one of the key elements of society for both Aristotle and Plato. Family is the first form in society of association between men as it answers man s natural needs, and instincts. As Aristotle explains, the coupling which necessity gives rise [to] is that between those who are unable to exist without one another, in other words man is a being that is, by nature, social and political. Association is a natural phenomenon, which declines in interdependent forms such as the family, the village, and finally the city. However, it would be an error to assume that each form is not fundamentally different from one another. In Politics, Aristotle criticizes Plato s assumption that a city must strive to be a unit, because beyond a certain point, city will be reduced to family and family to individual. [Book II, 1261a] Indeed, if a city state were to strive towards unity it would resemble a household, since he holds the household to be of higher degree in unity, but by assumption, a city state is different that a household. By uncovering and comparing the differences between the city and the household in Politics, Ethics and The Republic, we will first explain Aristotle s criticism and Plato s potential response to his student. It can be shown that rac increased with the increased of frequency (Du, Burnett, (2000), (Demoulias, Labridis, Dokopoulos Gouramanis, 2007), (Desmet, Vanalme, Belmans, Van Dommelen, 2008). Some research papers used value from published graph such as by The Okonite Company and Anixter Inc. (The Okonite Company, 2001), (Anixter Inc., n.d.). However upon inspection, it was found that the graph is produced on the basis of fundamental frequency of 60 Hz and using imperial unit. Some other sources, although on 50 Hz as fundamental basis, give limited data such as (Moore, 1997), (Coates, n.d). As an alternative, formula from IEC 287 1 1 was used to calculate the rac (IEC, 1994). Skin and proximity effects are part of formula to calculate cable ampacity known as Neher McGrath (NM) method in 1957 (Blackledge, O Connell, Barrett Sung, 2012, 2012). However this method, according to the authors, could not handle a range of harmonic frequencies. In 1991, Ajit Hiranandani (AH) introduced a way to calculate temperature and ampacity of a cable using generalised finite difference model (Hiranandani, 1991). Hiranandani (1995) produced a paper which tackles the problem of size selection for cable under harmonic condition. In this paper, he introduced term such as harmonic signature (HS), with reference to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Analysis Of Jia Chien s Influence On The International... Jia Chien is the middle daughter who is ambitious in advancing her career as a corporate airline executive, having little time for her family and desiring to quickly move out of the house. Jia Chien s position shows how women in modern Taiwan occupy jobs in essentially all job markets, yet the fact that she is an executive contrasts even the modern woman gender role where women do not typically own managerial positions (Gold 1114). Additionally, the Taiwanese airline she works for is expanding into new countries by acquiring new airline routes in the international market (Dilley 48) which compares to how Taiwan desired to globalize through markets such as the United States. However the same statement diverges from the notion that western nations are the dominant forces in globalization and instead, the Taiwanese are now the perpetrators of globalization, exerting its own influence on the international market. It is then revealed that Jia Chien originally wanted to pursue the culinary arts, actually having much talent for cooking, but in the past her father Mr. Chu forbade her from becoming a chef and even from being in the kitchen. Mr. Chu s reasoning is that Jia Chien should have a better life with a university education than him, leading to Jia Chien s bitterness to her father and complicating their relationship. Mr. Chu s seemingly oppressive behavior symbolizes Taiwan s traditional family values as he has power over his daughter and dictates what she can or cannot do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Taking a Look at Muscular Dystrophy The first written account of Muscular Dystrophy occurred in 1830, composed by Sir Charles Bell (Audrey S. Penn, 2001). His essay, along with many other accounts, display instances of younger boys getting progressively weaker, losing the ability to walk, and dying at extremely early ages. These diagnostics continued to become more frequent up into the late 1800s and early 1900s. As these symptoms were being researched and observed it soon became prevalent that this disease can affect all people of any sex or age. Muscular Dystrophy (or MD) is a general term representing more than 30 inherited diseases and subcategories that affect the skeletal, and in some cases involuntary, muscle regions (Hegde, 2012). The gene is recessively X linked, meaning that females are carriers of the mutation even if they do not have the disease, and males will either have it or not. The X linked characteristic of MD is the reason why most types are seen more abundantly in males. MD can lead to the symptoms seen in the 1800s; inability to walk or function properly, substantial weakness, and potentially death. The reason behind differencing types of MD is because no one case is the same; they are categorized based of the areas of the body that are affected, the ages that symptoms become present, and the level of intensity of the disease. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is present only in boys, from birth; however, symptoms do not usually show until the ages of 3 5. Another widely existing disease is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Different justifications exist in the minds of those who seek to harass and condemn: religious beliefs, personal taste, familial responsibilities, nationalistic unity, cultural expectations, the list goes on and on. The urinary system works together with the lungs, skin and intestines to maintain the balance of chemicals and water in the body. The typical adult urinates approximately twenty seven to sixty eight fluid once a day of urine. These books sometimes venture into the fantasy and sci fi genres, but always they portray the author s idea of what humanity could look like after the world as we know it has ended. More importantly, they serve as mirrors for the vices currently plaguing society, demonstrating how these faults metastasize into major forces of evil when placed in the context of desperate circumstances. The Road, Cormac McCarthy s harrowing description of a father son pair slogging through the desolation of an unknown apocalypse, is no exception. Persuasive Essay On Winning Games The thrill of winning a trophy for the first time is always memorable, however, it brings up the question: Is receiving an award for participating just as exciting? Participation awards are a topic highly debated among those of all ages, with none agreeing on a single answer. Individuals who are under the impression that they are essential believe they boost a child s confidence and self esteem. This may be true in some cases, but these trophies could be doing more harm than good. Although in the moment they may appear to be wholesome, they have a lasting effect on children as they grow older. Many children put loads of effort into winning awards, which is belittled by participation trophies that are not only unhelpful and unrewarding, but don t teach them the important values learned by losing. Of course, participation trophies take away from the true meaning of receiving an award and enjoying the sport. Her daughter rarely showed up for her soccer team. • 37. Character Development Of Hamlet Hamlet s character drastically develops over the first four acts of Hamlet, and his character development is most evident through the soliloquys he delivers throughout the play. The most character development can be seen from the first soliloquy, to the second, the third, the sixth, and the seventh and final soliloquy. Hamlet s inner conflict with his thoughts and his actions are well analyzed in his soliloquys, as well as his struggles with life and death, and his very own existence. He begins the play wondering what purpose he has in life now that his father is dead and his mother has remarried to his uncle. After finding out foul play was involved in his father s death, he is motivated by revenge. Finally, he wonders how he can enact his revenge while continuously overthinking and overanalyzing his actions. In Act I, scene II, Hamlet delivers his first soliloquy after his mother and new step dad/uncle Claudius try to convince him to get over the death of his father, and to accept their rather hasty marriage. In his first soliloquy, Hamlet questions whether or not he should kill himself, and curses God for making suicide a sin. Hamlet is also fixated on his mother s rushed marriage to his uncle, not even a month after his father s death. Hamlet says, A little month, or ere those shoes were old/with which she followed my poor father s body (Lines 146 147). He is very hooked on the fact that his mother wore the same shoes to her wedding as she did to her husband s funeral, not even having time in between to break the shoes in. Hamlet wishes he could say whatever he wants and express his disgust about his mother s marriage and his hatred for his uncle, but since his uncle is the reigning King of Denmark, he has to hold his tongue and show respect for the king. This first soliloquy introduces the reader to Hamlet s indecisiveness and over analytical mindset. Hamlet is confronted by the ghostly figure of his father in Act I, scene V. Hamlet s father informs him that he had been murdered by Claudius. King Hamlet tells his son to avenge his death, but doesn t specify how. Since the scatter plot does not use a thicker dot when numerous teams share one place on the plot, this suggests that teams who lose at the end of the first period tend to have similar scores, as they have twelve fewer points than teams who win. If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X range must be smaller than that of the winning team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A s points are on 3 or 4 on the X axis, it is logical for Team A to have a larger range.
