Travels of a T-Shirt Book Report Essay
Question 1: Write a summary of this book
Often, when we think of a t shirt, not much consideration goes past throwing it on and walking out the
door. We discover in The Travels of a T Shirt in the Global Economy, author Pietra Rivoli conveys the
story of a t shirt she purchased in Florida for just $5.99. Beginning with core element of the t shirt, she
describes the cotton boom in the United States and why we have reigned supreme as the leading
cotton producer. She even meets with a Texan farmer who warms your heart from the very beginning
of the chapter. Next, the cotton goes on to textile mills and factories, and Rivoli explains the history of
the textile industry. With this lesson, she demonstrates how the textile industry boom was a ... Show

Her writing style takes into consideration those with very little economic awareness and fluidly
phrases things into layman s terms. She is able to expand on the most complex ideas, such as quotas
and tariffs in the textile industry, and still paint a complete picture in the mind of the reader.
The relevance of this book can be measured by its ability to speak to the everyday individual, who
may or may not know anything about economics, and plant the seed toward global economic
education. It provides a keen social awareness to people who may or may not ordinarily care about
international economics and can have an eye opening effect toward what really happens in the textile
industry.
Rivoli also raises some substantial points about free trade and protectionism. After the facts are
presented, she identifies that most of these alleged free markets aren t actually free at all. She explains
that quotas, political relationships, and labor issues make these markets restricted from being
completely free. She writes a story of the wealth enhancing possibilities of globalization in some
settings but a can t win trap in others, a trap where power imbalances and poorly functioning politics
and markets seem to doom the economic future.
Question 3: Is the author arguing for free trade or protectionism? Explain.
Rivoli is not making an argument for either side of protectionism or free trade. Of course, as an avid
economist, Rivoli advocates free trade, as

Computer Dynamic s Current Data And Communication Network
The purpose of this report is to assess Computer Dynamic s current data and communication network.
The objective of the report is to offer a proposed solution for a modern network that meets the
organisation s needs. A review of existing network was conducted; school management and number of
students were observed. Current network performance was provided by the management. A physical
assessment of the whole school was conducted. Findings The existing network is exhibiting
congestion, bottlenecks, poor speed and is not adequate for growth in line with company strategy .
There is no physical connection between the two buildings occupied by the organisation. The school is
already sharing information through a VPN site to site tunnel. The current VPN approach throughout
the school is not efficient. There is currently a disaster recovery opportunity in place of school data.
Recommendations An investment is required to form a physical network connection between the
school, Fibre Optic is suggested. An investment in layer 3 switching technology is recommended to
take advantage of the Fibre Optic upgrade An investment in hardware for disaster recovery is highly
recommended. Two major departments should consider moving to Cloud based technology to replace
existing applications. 1 ANALYSIS OF USER REQUIREMENTS 1.1 Network users; Analysis The

How Did Reconstruction Improve The United States After The...
Reconstruction
Reconstruction was a time of great pain and endless questions for the United States of America. What
was going to happen to the newly freed slaves? How would they be treated? Would the United States
ever be one cohesive country? Many of these questions are still unanswered in today s society, but
reconstruction was in place to try to rebuild the US after the devastation of the Civil war. The
reconstruction era lasted from 1865 1877. During this time the United States military was stationed in
the South, so that everything would run smoothly and hopefully allow for readmission of the once
confederate states, back into the Union as one.
The Civil war caused a lot of destruction and devastation in the Southern United States. Many efforts
were going to be needed if the United States wanted to be a strong power. There was a huge push to
secure the rights of the newly freed, former slaves and incorporate them more into society. One major
factor that led to the reconstruction era was the need for the rebuilding of infrastructure in the South.
After the Civil war, much of the infrastructure was unuseable. Also, the US hoped to reorganize and
revitalize the Southern states as a whole and bring them back into the Union. ... Show more content on

states were part of the Union again, but things were still somewhat chaotic. Whites were once again

rebuilt and many people were moving back to the South to start over. During the reconstruction era,
the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were all put into place. The 13th amendment abolished slavery.

How Did Doyle Write The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Arthur Conan Doyle s Beliefs that Impact his Writing Arthur Conan Doyle believed in the paranormal
realms. That belief has helped inspire The Hound of the Baskervilles. In 1901, Doyle went on a
vacation with his friend, Fletcher Robinson, who first told him about the legend of the hound from
Dartmoor, Devonshire (Major 862). In the same year Doyle wrote The Hound of the Baskervilles,
which he called a real creeper based on the legend (Major 862). Sherlock Holmes was put in as an
afterthought, possibly because of the pressure Doyle felt from fans for Doyle s killing Holmes (Major
862). The Hound in The Hound of the Baskervilles is portrayed as a frightening being, who kills
because of the Baskerville family curse. Although hellhounds ... Show more content on

He believed that intelligence could exist without the body, meaning the dead could communicate with
the living (Diniejko). In 1893, he joined the British Society for Psychical Research, to search for
claims of spiritualism and other paranormal concepts (Diniejko). Along with his second wife, he even
held seances in order to reach out to his family that has passed on during World War One and any
other spirits willing to come through and speak (Diniejko). After his son Kingsley and several other
relatives died in the First World War, Doyle devoted the rest of his life to spiritual practices (The Lost
World VIII). Possibly because of all his experience Arguably the most famous demon dog story ever is
Arthur Conan Doyle s The Hound of the Baskervilles (Britt). In the novel Doyle could be projecting
some of his own feelings and beliefs. Having left Catholicism, he turned to spiritualism and devoted
the rest of his life to psychic research and propagandizing his beliefs (Millett 765). His pieces of work
on spiritualism are what he is best known for (Millett 764). So was Doyle secretly using The Hound of

The Reality Of Film Production And Consumption
Superhero movies experienced a rise in production and promotion for the last decade; with success in
apply the cinematic universe in popular culture. Two major American comics studios: Marvel comics
and DC comics have been transforming their statics comics into a motion picture, Nevertheless, each
studio has it own cinematic universe and they expand to include short films and TV series. As the
following, this essay wills analysis the concept of genres with Marvel superheroes movies as an
example.
Genre is an ambiguous term in movies, because the nature of genre has no restriction, a movie can be
involved with numbers of features from multiple genres , however, Genre become accessible with
criticism, consumption and production. As Schatz, T. (1981) notes that the nature of film production
and consumption, identifying film genres scarcely involves the subjective, interpretive effort that it
does in literature.
Having Captain America: The First Avenger as an example, ideology of the film is a nationalism of
American in WW II, by showing the muscularity image of defeating a Nazi Colonel with a walking
American flag with having American flag costume and shield appear in most of the screen time. Can
this movie consider as a nationalism/American propaganda movie instead of a sci fi superhero/war
movie? or contain all of the elements, which have mentioned above in one movie? Edward Buscombe
(1970) suggested identifying genres through their iconography their characteristic,

The book details the rise of Blackwater and the growth of security contracting, especially the role it
has played in the Iraq war and the War on Terrorism, which Scahill tries to expose the conduct of
Blackwater. With the introduction of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States government
increased its support on using contractors to assist the military. While other PMCs are used by the
government, Blackwater was the company that benefited the most, which has now secured $1 billion
dollars in diplomatic security contracts from the government.
In the book, Scahill argues that the company s rise is a consequence of the demobilization of the US
military following the Cold War and its overextension in Iraq and Afghanistan. He continues by saying
how Blackwater serves in Iraq and Afghanistan, protecting top authority figures and enjoying
immunity from the constraints and regulations on traditional armies. Scahill argues that Blackwater s
leadership was motivated by a right wing Republican ideology, and that its founder, Erik Prince, has
provided significant assistance in that setting. Scahill makes several key arguments in his book. He
argues that Blackwater s employees should face criminal charges for a variety of incidents

Does Watching TV Make Us Smarter
In his essay, Does Watching TV Make Us Stupid? Nigel Barber argues that the effect of TV on a child
s intelligence has to do with their social class, meaning that children in lower social classes who watch
TV often come to be more intelligent than their counterparts who don t watch TV and vice versa.
Barber then goes onto write that children in more well to do countries become smarter because they
have more access to mass media, which stimulates their brain. So, to answer his title s question,
Barber does not think that TV makes us stupid. There are many opinions on this topic. Steven Johnson
shares his opinion in his essay, Watching TV Makes You Smarter . In his essay Johnson argues that TV
does make us smarter for many reasons. The first being that society is becoming more demanding in
the amount and complexity of the content received from TV shows, which Johnson calls the Sleeper
Curve. With this rise of complexity comes three elements: multiple threads, flashing arrows, and
social networks. All of which Johnson goes into detail about how they have improved TV over time,
making the public smarter. Although there are many similarities between the two authors there are
many more differences. The clearest differences between Barber s Does Watching TV Make Us
Stupid? and Johnson s Watching TV Makes You Smarter are the titles, generalizations they make, and
most importantly what and why they think TV makes us smarter. The first difference in Barber s and
Johnson s

British Imperialism In Nigeria
British Imperialism in Nigeria
The British empire began in 16th century and lasted until around 1997. During this time Great Britain
controlled a lot of the World s land and population. Britain had immense power and used it for their
own dominance. They wanted to spread their ideology and culture to other societies.Britain was
imperializing many parts of the World. Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a weaker
nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural life ( Boisestate.edu).For Britain,
this process was strengthening their nation as a whole so they began to really expand their outreach.
After WWI Britain really started a long period of ruling. During this period, Europe s powers added
nearly nine million square miles (23,000,000 square kilometers) to their overseas colonial possessions.
As it was mostly unoccupied by the Western powers as late as the 1880s, Africa became the primary
target of the new imperialist expansion, although conquest took place also in other areas notably
Southeast Asia and the East Asian seaboard, where Japan joined the European powers scramble for
territory (New World 1). They were many countries involved in British imperialism however, one of
the most prominent and well known country was Nigeria. Nigeria was a huge gain for Britain because
Nigeria had access to an abundance of natural resources and also was a post for the slave trade that
Britain was heavily apart of at the time. There were many ways that British imperialism affected
Nigeria, some being positive and some being negative, the country dealt with them and learned from
every aspect of the situations trying to become a better and stronger country for their own sake. In this
paper websites played a large role in the research. I found that websites helped a lot because I was able
to find a lot of information on my topic in a quick amount of time. Also, living in Oklahoma it would
be hard to find a decent amount of information on the British and their rule over Nigeria. Databases
were another online resource I used to find an abundance of facts in a short time. Many of the
Databases were approved by the school so the information was very reliable and exact.

Angela Vicario Essay
Márquez uses the character of Angela Vicario to show the power women can possess over the men in
their lives. Angela Vicario is arguably the most powerful character in the novel, as she is the one who
tells her brothers that it was Santiago who took her virginity, which consequently sets the entire plot of
the story in motion. After Angela is returned by Bayardo San Román to her family due to the fact that
she is not a virgin, when her brothers ask who it was who took her virginity, Angela nailed [Santiago s
name] to the wall with her well aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always
been written (Márquez 47). The way in which Angela searches for Santiago s name shows that it may
not have been Santiago who had taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santiago is also referred to as a butterfly, a very fragile creature, with no will or say in what happens
to it. This insinuates that even if he was to try, Santiago Nasar would never be able to free himself
from the fate Angela s words set for him. This goes directly against the social norms of the time, in
which Santiago, the wealthy man, should be able to control Angela, the poor woman. Angela s
statement that it was Santiago who took her virginity also exercises a certain control over her brothers.
In the trial, Pablo and Pedro declared that they would have done it again a thousand times over for the
same reason (Márquez 48). Even though they did have their own free will in committing the murders,
Pablo and Pedro did not question their decision to murder Santiago in defense of Angela s honor. By
making the accusation, Angela is controlling her brothers as well, as it is clear that they will end up
doing something to protect their sister s purity. Whether Angela intentionally wanted Santiago to end
up dead or not, it is still clear that at this point in the novel, she is exercising a control over Santiago,
Pablo, and

Creation Of The National Incident Management System (NIMS)
First and foremost, emergency management policy must have a set standard at all levels. An example
of this was the creation of the National Incident Management System [NIMS] and the Incident
Command Systems [ICS]. As an example, NIMS creates a nationwide template that is consistent and
can be used by all government, non government and private sector entities during or after a domestic
incident (MD NIMS/ICS).
With that being said; emergency management policies should be crafted by all levels including the
Department of Homeland Security [DHS], State and Local Emergency Management Agencies and
first responders at all levels. One of the steps taken by the federal government was enacting the
National Response Framework [NRF]. The NRF is a policy

Indonesi The Largest Economy Of South East Asia
Indonesia is the largest economy in South East Asia; it has progressed into a decentralized electoral
democracy and has managed to reduce its overall poverty from 17 percent in 2004 to 11 percent in
2014. However, despite their steady economy and major improvements, nearly 40 percent of
Indonesia lives just above the poverty line. Additionally, Indonesian public services and health
standards fall behind other middle income countries; these facts combined with their high rates of
maternal mortality, child malnutrition, and insufficient access to education place Indonesia in the
developing or Third World realm. Indonesia s history, geographic position, abundance of natural
resources, wars and conquest, as well as trade has fundamentally shaped the economic and political
structure. Furthermore, leadership influence, intervening forces, and its colonial masters have also
played a large role in constructing the systems of this developing country. The colonial period has
greatly formed Indonesia into the country it is today; however, this period did not start immediately as
outsiders entered. The Dutch first arrived in the country during the end of the 16th century, but it took
a slow process of political expansion and centuries later before they would reach the territorial
boundaries of present day Indonesia. During the 18th century the United East India Company
established itself as a major political and economical power on the island of Java. This Dutch trading

II. Popular science and Australiana retail brand; Australian Geographic Retail has begun closing down
sixty seven of its stores across Australia, as owner Myer Family Investments (MFI) seeks to close the
loss making business. MFI bought the Australian Geographic chain in 2007, but due to increased retail
competition from stores such as Kmart and Target, the brand has recently failed to return profits.
Where the stores have recently begun a process which will likely lead to a controlled exit from its
retail business during the first half of 2017 . As a result of globalisation, multinational co operations
are forcing smaller and local businesses to close their doors through the use of online retailing and
lower prices, depriving the smaller businesses of demand and revenue. These lower prices will benefit
the consumers, saving them money, yet this comes at the expense of others. In particular, third world
countries and their undeveloped regulation systems are being exploited for their cheap labour,
lowering their living standards. This decreases the cultural diversity of products, as consumers will be
restricted to the goods supplied by the multi national co operations.

Electron Radiation
Atoms are the microscopic building blocks of all matter in the universe. Everything around us are
made of atoms, including radiation. The centre of an atom is called the nucleus, it is made of two
particles: protons, which carry a positive charge and neutrons, which have no charge. Electron carry a
negative charge and it is outside of a nucleus. The attraction of these negative electrons to the positive
nucleus is what keep the atom together. All the atom of the given elements has a specific number of
protons and neutrons, but sometimes it will have too many of those and become radioactive and an
unstable atom is called a radioisotope. When radioactive want to be stable again, they must release
energy until they get back to a balanced state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant leaks radioactive water into underground and to
sea. The effect cause earthquake in 2011. After the earth quake on June 2011, scientists measured that
5,000 to 15,000 terabecquerels of radioactive material was reaching the ocean. Since the incident in
2011, scientists measured levels of radioactivity in fish and other sea life. Several species of fish from
this area had caesium levels that exceeded Japan s regulatory limit for seafood. Scientists say the

In conclusion, radioactivity has both negative and positive aspects. Negative impacts include the
radiation leaking and damage healthy organism or cell during treatment while positive aspects consist
of many different uses in medical science, security and daily life items. I support the uses of
radioactivity because the positive aspects outweigh the negative aspects and I believe that in the future
the radioactivity can be used positively in many other

an English honor student. But even then, I experienced great difficulty writing papers, primarily
because I struggled with thesis statements. Reading comprehension is not difficult, especially not,
because I have a tendency of underlining and annotating. Now, after graduating from community
college, I do believe I am a better writer, but I do believe there will always be room for improvement.
6. What are your favorite things to do when you are not in school or working?
If I am not busy with school or work, I like to spend time with my family, friends, and my pet birds.
They are my main support, and I think I owe to them to make time for them. That is in the form of a

Human Visibility
Visibility is the state of being able to see, but how does that relate to how color and font affect
your vision? Evidently, you use your eyes to see, to observe, but how does that apply to which
colors and fonts affect human visibility the most and the least? To answer the questions, you d
have to know how visibility occurs; how you re able to see.
Light reflects off of objects that we look at, and first reflects through the cornea, which is the
clear part of your outer eye. Because the cornea is curved, it bends the lights that enter and
transmits it to the retina, the light sensitive tissue in the back of your eye that changes the light
into electric impulses. The impulses are then sent to he brain by the optic nerve (Sightsavers, ... Show

Rods are sensitive neurons that react
to photons and are used to create gray images which are used when it is dark. Cones, however,
help create detail and color for an image, which are best used into bright settings (Howtomedia,
Inc, 2014). There are more rods cones, and there are only three cones: red, green, and blue.
All are responsible for allowing us to see color and detail (Sightsavers, 2014).
Humans can only see a fraction of colors, which is the visible light spectrum. Colors beyond the
visible light spectrum are known as the non visible light spectrum. The visible is measured
within the wavelengths of 400 700 nanometers. Each wavelength has it own specific color,
so we see that specific color when that wavelength goes through our retinas (The Physics
Classroom, 2014). Both long and short ends of the wavelength are closer to the non visible
spectrum too.
Since this is how light is transmitted to how we are able to see, what is color? Color is a
frequency that is measured in wavelengths. Light is what makes up color and is measured by
wavelengths. Color is created through white light when it reflects off of a surface (Jay,

Global Strategy: the Case of Nissan Motor Company

Abstract
The concept of global strategy has become prominent in the international business and management
literature in the 1980s. The aims of our paper are to render in brief the concept of global strategy and

A strategy that views the world as a single, if segmented, market.
According to some researchers all the definitions of the concept can be grouped into three views (Peng

multinational corporation strategy that treats all the countries as a global marketplace. The second
view states that global strategy is related to international strategic management and the third
perspective incorporates both international and domestic corporate strategy. Starting from the
relationship between pressure to cut costs and pressure to adapt to local conditions (Figure 1), four
strategic approaches for global level business have been identified: multi domestic, global,

The Dance Of Benevolence
Welcome, welcome to all! As you all already know, it is now the time that we begin with the dance of
benevolence, following with which we will commence with the raising of the cups. But first, let us
give favor with the descendent of the fair maidens. The trumpets began to sound again, and music
accompanied. I watched with uncertainty. Nothing was happening until the crowd gasped and a
beautiful young female in a billowy, bronze colored dress emerged. Nimbly, she glided down the
stairs. The people oohed and awed when just then, another attractive woman in a peach colored dress
arrived and floated after. More and more beautiful women streamed down the stairsteps, flowing out
into the ballroom. The colors of their dress faded lighter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no doubt she was beautiful: full red rose lips, slender waist, and smooth dark hair that
cascaded down her bare, white shoulders. But there was something about her demeanor that distracted
from her beauty. I couldn t place it. Everyone remained silent until she made her final step onto the
ballroom floor. She looked around the room, in greetings to her guests and her lips stretched wide,
flashing a white teeth smile. Just then, in a wave like motion, the lights burned brightly again, the
music continued, and chatter and dancing became omnipresent. I returned my gaze to Gemma. Her
eyes darted anxiously about as she stood alongside the other maidens. I had to move quickly. I held up
my hand to capture her attention, but instantly I felt a tingling. My hand was beginning to disappear,
evaporating in a swirling swarm of particles. Before I could start to comprehend what was happening,
my whole body started to whirl around in a rapid spin. In a blink of an eye, I found myself still in the
ballroom, only now, I was near the stairs on the opposite end. Dazed and disoriented, I reached my
hand to my head and was startled to see my arms covered with sleeves. I reached down touching my
torso. My clothes had altered. My T shirt had converted to a blue jacket, and I was wearing a suit
comparable to an admiral s. Why did my clothes always change? At least now I fit in, I thought.
Instinctively I grabbed my shoulders, to my relief, I could still feel my backpack

Animal rights
Animals with rights must be treated as ends in themselves, they should not be treated by others as
means to achieve their ends. (Francione) An idea opposing to Immanuel Kant s beliefs. Animals are
apart of the moral community, their intrinsic worth justifies this, and causes for certain rights to be
established to uphold their worth within the community. To not respect the welfare of nonhuman
animals, and to provide special treatment for humans, goes against Peter Singer s ideas for a
harmonious community, and instead showcases speciesism. The established thought that has been
shown through the ages that certain races are more superb than others is the continuous downfall of
nations and inhibits progression. There is much disagreement ... Show more content on

435, Rachels)
This thought of treating animals with respect as we do humans, seems to be exaggerated in Rachels
article. It s not that the article is exaggerated people s viewpoints, it is just in general that people really
do feel this way when it comes to accepting animals into the moral society. It doesn t have to be to that
extreme, it just goes back to the simple rule treat others as you want to be treated . Human s don t need
to go above and beyond in living side by side with animals, there s just small things that could be
done, and thoughts that could be eliminated to help the nation move forward, as Gandhi said, the
greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. If human
s can change and move forward, it could erase the need to; take refuge in religious and cultural
traditions but instead examine our actions and decisions in light of the actual consequences. This
entails overcoming our ignorance regarding the extent to which our lifestyle is built upon the suffering
of other people or animals and the destruction of the environment. (Francione)
This principle of utility showcases the fact that the many ideas humans have where they feel that
animals are there only for instrumental worth. Animals have intrinsic worth, they should be allowed
rights and respect, we should abolish, and not regulate, animal exploitation, you must care morally
about animals. (Francione) Just as progression has been made in

Pecola Nakedness
Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye begins by thrusting the reader into the cold embrace of human
suffrage in the form of Pecola Breedlove, thus dramatically detailing what her life is like whilst
launched before the public limelight. The sensation of nakedness is the perception of which Morrison
elaborates upon as Pecola is displaced of solitude and all of her human faculties are stored into a cube
for the world to refract its scornful eyes against. Furthermore, Morrison delineates Pecola s suffering
as though the human condition itself were an object; rather, one of those sophisticated snow globes
that one places on the wooden mantelpiece in order to proclaim the winter season. The tragedy of
Pecola Breedlove is that the town emulsifies her world,

Nonexistent hoods and inadequate hoods should be replaced and installed immediately. The low on
nonexistent fpm s produced by these hoods are in violation of OSHA regulations. Putting garage doors
on the equipment doors should be done after this. The free flow of lead from POS to other parts of the
plant is of great concern to everyone s health. Keeping the lead in the POS department would make it
much easier to control. The installation of a wind tunnel between POS and COS should be installed in
the next couple years. A large sized capital improvement investment will be required for this
construction. Personal hygiene, facility sanitation practices, and employee dietary needs should be
instituted immediately. These changes have very little cost and do not require much labor downtime.
Conclusion The blood lead levels in the Holland, Ohio facility are the worst not only in the United
States, but the world as well. In order to lower these blood lead levels each changes and improvements
must be made in all six categories outlined in this report. The changes range from simple policy
changes that at little or no cost, to engineering controls that will be fairly expensive. I look forward to

Comparing Plato s The Symposium
In one of his most accomplished works, Plato brings to light the topic of alcohol and the significance
of drinking in The Symposium. Through this text, Plato is writing about philosophy is the setting of a
narrative in order to reinforce the context of the story. Plato was a metaphilosophist that supported the
theory of forms. He believed that understanding pure form, achieving true wisdom, is something that
cannot be defined or reduced to words, and all people should strive to understand pure form. The main
symbol in The Symposium, is wine, a representation of wisdom. Throughout the narrative, the
characters drink at a constant place. Having the wine allows for the men to open up and share their
ideas on love, as the characters try and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a symposium, the symposiarch, the leader of the symposium, decides what is going to be talked
about, and each person at the symposium delivers a speech on that topic. As this is going on, the
people at the symposium pass around watered down wine and drink in rounds all at the same pace.
This drinking ritual is an example of sophrosunē, an Ancient Greek value that emphasized self
restraint and conforming to societal expectations.
The main concept that Plato bases his argument on is the theory of forms. According to the theory of
forms, the physical world is created by the abstract ideas and concepts known as the metaphysical
world. Plato believed that the physical world was not real and was simply an illusion for the
metaphysical world. in The Symposium, there are six different levels to the theory of forms as defined
by Diotima. Diotima defines the levels using the example of love, the topic of discussion at the
symposium. The first two levels fall into the physical world and are the love of one body and the love
of all bodies. The third, fourth, and fifth levels fall under the realm of the metaphysical world and are
the love of minds, the love of customs and traditions, and love of forms of knowledge respectively.
The highest level in the theory of forms is pure form which extends beyond the metaphysical world
and cannot be defined. Only beings that have achieved wisdom, beings that reside in the realm of pure
form, can understand this idea. Plato

Based on Maxwell, leadership is a verb not a noun and it s a process not a destination or finish line.
There are 5 levels, level 1: position, level 2: permission, level 3: production, level 4: people

he is and what value that he represents, some people said that only natural gifted leaders reach the
pinnacle. Pinnacle leaders have created a legacy that transcends their organization and extends beyond

Promissory Estoppel Case Study
Defendant is entitled to summary judgment for the simple reason that at will employers are generally
are immune from liability in lawsuits brought by at will employees, and Plaintiff cannot, as a matter of
law, succeed on the element of detrimental reliance necessary to support a claim of promissory
estoppel. More specifically, Plaintiff s employment agreement contained no explicit period of service,
no clear limit on the employer s freedom of action and thus, allowed either party to terminate the
relationship at any time or for any reason. During that time, Plaintiff unreasonably acted in reliance on
a good faith assumption despite the absence of any clearly defined limitations, obligations or evidence
demonstrating a modification to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plaintiff contends the acts taken in reliance on the Defendant s promise was the selling of his home in
Alabama and his relocation to Houston, however, this is insufficient because he has presented no such
evidence that, but for the employment offer, these acts would have ceased to occur. English, 660
S.W.2d at 524 (finding no promissory estoppel when plaintiff could not show that he would not have
taken his detrimental actions if defendant had not made promise). Rather, Plaintiff admitted his
significant need to move to Houston, to allow him the ability to care for his ailing mother, evidenced
by his further admission of seeking employment with any company that would make this relocation
possible. Exhibit C. Moreover, allowing recovery in this context does not support the purpose of
promissory estoppel; preventing unjust enrichment. Rather, permitting recovery results in an illogical
situation where an employee maintains no remedy if fired sometime after commencing work, but
preserves the right a remedy in the event the employer refuses to allow him to commence work at all.

circumstances and should not be granted as a matter of

The Social Of Social Cognitive Theory
Abstract: The Social Cognitive Theory is perhaps the most comprehensive and complex learning
theories in the field of psychology. The theory attempts to explain how our social environment has a
great influence on our behaviors and actions. Albert Bandura is the most notable psychologist of the
Social Cognitive Theory. He has conducted intense research and experiments for over 50 years and
continually strives to improve the strengths and correct the limitations of the theory. The Social
Cognitive Theory is applied today in many behavioral and cognitive therapeutic settings. It is unique
from other learning theories because of the belief that self efficacy, goals, and outcome expectancies
are likely to determine behavioral changes. Social Cognitive Theorists believe that we have the power
to change our environment because our environment is affected by our behavior. Does the paper sound
interesting after reading the abstract? The Social Cognitive Theory is a psychological learning theory
that attempts to explain the psychosocial functioning through the view of self and society and how
these two factors have a bidirectional influence. Social Cognitive Theorists believe that individuals are
reactive and shaped by environmental events. It is believed that this causes us to be self reflective and
proactive in our nature. The Social Cognitive Theory believes that abstract modeling and strategic
observation leads to higher levels of learning. There are five main constructs of

and why they need to be re evaluated. Furthermore, the hope is to uncover some of the underlining

mitigate those factors.

It is based on predicted expenses they may be fixed things like rent, leases or variable things such as
payroll, utilities and phone bills. Budget list your income and expenses, subtracting one from the other
to give you realistic numbers to guide you re planning. For example, if your budget shows that your
total expenses are greater than your total income, you must adjust your spending entries in your
budget to try and gain the profit income, you can match it against your payables to make sure that you
have enough money in the bank to meet your obligations. You can try to create a budget that only
spends what you make by using your current cash position and current sales and expenses to guide
you. If this is wrong this it creates a cash flow shortage. Budgeting relies more on recent history,
current contracts and income levels to set conservative income limits, as budgeting for income
optimistically might not be realistic and set your small project up for failure. A cash flow budget does
not show the monthly average amount of your expenses, but the exact expense amounts each month
when they come due. This allows you to budget lower payments for discretionary spending in the
months when you have high payables. When creating a budget, you set specific spending limits in
certain areas based on how much income you have. For example, you might forecast that your payroll
will be $100,000 per month, while a budget actually

  • 2. Travels of a T-Shirt Book Report Essay Question 1: Write a summary of this book Often, when we think of a t shirt, not much consideration goes past throwing it on and walking out the door. We discover in The Travels of a T Shirt in the Global Economy, author Pietra Rivoli conveys the story of a t shirt she purchased in Florida for just $5.99. Beginning with core element of the t shirt, she describes the cotton boom in the United States and why we have reigned supreme as the leading cotton producer. She even meets with a Texan farmer who warms your heart from the very beginning of the chapter. Next, the cotton goes on to textile mills and factories, and Rivoli explains the history of the textile industry. With this lesson, she demonstrates how the textile industry boom was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her writing style takes into consideration those with very little economic awareness and fluidly phrases things into layman s terms. She is able to expand on the most complex ideas, such as quotas and tariffs in the textile industry, and still paint a complete picture in the mind of the reader. The relevance of this book can be measured by its ability to speak to the everyday individual, who may or may not know anything about economics, and plant the seed toward global economic education. It provides a keen social awareness to people who may or may not ordinarily care about international economics and can have an eye opening effect toward what really happens in the textile industry. Rivoli also raises some substantial points about free trade and protectionism. After the facts are presented, she identifies that most of these alleged free markets aren t actually free at all. She explains that quotas, political relationships, and labor issues make these markets restricted from being completely free. She writes a story of the wealth enhancing possibilities of globalization in some settings but a can t win trap in others, a trap where power imbalances and poorly functioning politics and markets seem to doom the economic future. Question 3: Is the author arguing for free trade or protectionism? Explain. Rivoli is not making an argument for either side of protectionism or free trade. Of course, as an avid economist, Rivoli advocates free trade, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. How Did Reconstruction Improve The United States After The... Reconstruction Reconstruction was a time of great pain and endless questions for the United States of America. What was going to happen to the newly freed slaves? How would they be treated? Would the United States ever be one cohesive country? Many of these questions are still unanswered in today s society, but reconstruction was in place to try to rebuild the US after the devastation of the Civil war. The reconstruction era lasted from 1865 1877. During this time the United States military was stationed in the South, so that everything would run smoothly and hopefully allow for readmission of the once confederate states, back into the Union as one. The Civil war caused a lot of destruction and devastation in the Southern United States. Many efforts were going to be needed if the United States wanted to be a strong power. There was a huge push to secure the rights of the newly freed, former slaves and incorporate them more into society. One major factor that led to the reconstruction era was the need for the rebuilding of infrastructure in the South. After the Civil war, much of the infrastructure was unuseable. • 7. How Did Doyle Write The Hound Of The Baskervilles Arthur Conan Doyle s Beliefs that Impact his Writing Arthur Conan Doyle believed in the paranormal realms. That belief has helped inspire The Hound of the Baskervilles. In 1901, Doyle went on a vacation with his friend, Fletcher Robinson, who first told him about the legend of the hound from Dartmoor, Devonshire (Major 862). In the same year Doyle wrote The Hound of the Baskervilles, which he called a real creeper based on the legend (Major 862). Sherlock Holmes was put in as an afterthought, possibly because of the pressure Doyle felt from fans for Doyle s killing Holmes (Major 862). The book details the rise of Blackwater and the growth of security contracting, especially the role it has played in the Iraq war and the War on Terrorism, which Scahill tries to expose the conduct of Blackwater. With the introduction of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States government increased its support on using contractors to assist the military. While other PMCs are used by the government, Blackwater was the company that benefited the most, which has now secured $1 billion dollars in diplomatic security contracts from the government. In the book, Scahill argues that the company s rise is a consequence of the demobilization of the US military following the Cold War and its overextension in Iraq and Afghanistan. He continues by saying how Blackwater serves in Iraq and Afghanistan, protecting top authority figures and enjoying immunity from the constraints and regulations on traditional armies. Scahill argues that Blackwater s leadership was motivated by a right wing Republican ideology, and that its founder, Erik Prince, has provided significant assistance in that setting. • 11. Does Watching TV Make Us Smarter In his essay, Does Watching TV Make Us Stupid? Nigel Barber argues that the effect of TV on a child s intelligence has to do with their social class, meaning that children in lower social classes who watch TV often come to be more intelligent than their counterparts who don t watch TV and vice versa. Barber then goes onto write that children in more well to do countries become smarter because they have more access to mass media, which stimulates their brain. So, to answer his title s question, Barber does not think that TV makes us stupid. There are many opinions on this topic. Steven Johnson shares his opinion in his essay, Watching TV Makes You Smarter . In his essay Johnson argues that TV does make us smarter for many reasons. The first being that society is becoming more demanding in the amount and complexity of the content received from TV shows, which Johnson calls the Sleeper Curve. With this rise of complexity comes three elements: multiple threads, flashing arrows, and social networks. All of which Johnson goes into detail about how they have improved TV over time, making the public smarter. Although there are many similarities between the two authors there are many more differences. The clearest differences between Barber s Does Watching TV Make Us Stupid? and Johnson s Watching TV Makes You Smarter are the titles, generalizations they make, and most importantly what and why they think TV makes us smarter. • 12. British Imperialism In Nigeria British Imperialism in Nigeria The British empire began in 16th century and lasted until around 1997. During this time Great Britain controlled a lot of the World s land and population. Britain had immense power and used it for their own dominance. They wanted to spread their ideology and culture to other societies.Britain was imperializing many parts of the World. Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a weaker nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural life ( Boisestate.edu).For Britain, this process was strengthening their nation as a whole so they began to really expand their outreach. After WWI Britain really started a long period of ruling. During this period, Europe s powers added nearly nine million square miles (23,000,000 square kilometers) to their overseas colonial possessions. As it was mostly unoccupied by the Western powers as late as the 1880s, Africa became the primary target of the new imperialist expansion, although conquest took place also in other areas notably Southeast Asia and the East Asian seaboard, where Japan joined the European powers scramble for territory (New World 1). They were many countries involved in British imperialism however, one of the most prominent and well known country was Nigeria. Nigeria was a huge gain for Britain because Nigeria had access to an abundance of natural resources and also was a post for the slave trade that Britain was heavily apart of at the time. There were many ways that British imperialism affected Nigeria, some being positive and some being negative, the country dealt with them and learned from every aspect of the situations trying to become a better and stronger country for their own sake. In this paper websites played a large role in the research. I found that websites helped a lot because I was able to find a lot of information on my topic in a quick amount of time. Also, living in Oklahoma it would be hard to find a decent amount of information on the British and their rule over Nigeria. Databases were another online resource I used to find an abundance of facts in a short time. Many of the Databases were approved by the school so the information was very reliable and exact. • 13. Angela Vicario Essay Márquez uses the character of Angela Vicario to show the power women can possess over the men in their lives. Angela Vicario is arguably the most powerful character in the novel, as she is the one who tells her brothers that it was Santiago who took her virginity, which consequently sets the entire plot of the story in motion. After Angela is returned by Bayardo San Román to her family due to the fact that she is not a virgin, when her brothers ask who it was who took her virginity, Angela nailed [Santiago s name] to the wall with her well aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always been written (Márquez 47). Santiago is also referred to as a butterfly, a very fragile creature, with no will or say in what happens to it. This insinuates that even if he was to try, Santiago Nasar would never be able to free himself from the fate Angela s words set for him. This goes directly against the social norms of the time, in which Santiago, the wealthy man, should be able to control Angela, the poor woman. Angela s statement that it was Santiago who took her virginity also exercises a certain control over her brothers. In the trial, Pablo and Pedro declared that they would have done it again a thousand times over for the same reason (Márquez 48). Even though they did have their own free will in committing the murders, Pablo and Pedro did not question their decision to murder Santiago in defense of Angela s honor. By making the accusation, Angela is controlling her brothers as well, as it is clear that they will end up doing something to protect their sister s purity. Whether Angela intentionally wanted Santiago to end up dead or not, it is still clear that at this point in the novel, she is exercising a control over Santiago, Pablo, and ... An example of this was the creation of the National Incident Management System [NIMS] and the Incident Command Systems [ICS]. As an example, NIMS creates a nationwide template that is consistent and can be used by all government, non government and private sector entities during or after a domestic incident (MD NIMS/ICS). With that being said; emergency management policies should be crafted by all levels including the Department of Homeland Security [DHS], State and Local Emergency Management Agencies and first responders at all levels. Indonesi The Largest Economy Of South East Asia Indonesia is the largest economy in South East Asia; it has progressed into a decentralized electoral democracy and has managed to reduce its overall poverty from 17 percent in 2004 to 11 percent in 2014. However, despite their steady economy and major improvements, nearly 40 percent of Indonesia lives just above the poverty line. Additionally, Indonesian public services and health standards fall behind other middle income countries; these facts combined with their high rates of maternal mortality, child malnutrition, and insufficient access to education place Indonesia in the developing or Third World realm. Indonesia s history, geographic position, abundance of natural resources, wars and conquest, as well as trade has fundamentally shaped the economic and political structure. Furthermore, leadership influence, intervening forces, and its colonial masters have also played a large role in constructing the systems of this developing country. The colonial period has greatly formed Indonesia into the country it is today; however, this period did not start immediately as outsiders entered. The Dutch first arrived in the country during the end of the 16th century, but it took a slow process of political expansion and centuries later before they would reach the territorial boundaries of present day Indonesia. Popular science and Australiana retail brand; Australian Geographic Retail has begun closing down sixty seven of its stores across Australia, as owner Myer Family Investments (MFI) seeks to close the loss making business. MFI bought the Australian Geographic chain in 2007, but due to increased retail competition from stores such as Kmart and Target, the brand has recently failed to return profits. Where the stores have recently begun a process which will likely lead to a controlled exit from its retail business during the first half of 2017 . As a result of globalisation, multinational co operations are forcing smaller and local businesses to close their doors through the use of online retailing and lower prices, depriving the smaller businesses of demand and revenue. These lower prices will benefit the consumers, saving them money, yet this comes at the expense of others. In particular, third world countries and their undeveloped regulation systems are being exploited for their cheap labour, lowering their living standards. This decreases the cultural diversity of products, as consumers will be restricted to the goods supplied by the multi national co operations. III. To answer the questions, you d have to know how visibility occurs; how you re able to see. Light reflects off of objects that we look at, and first reflects through the cornea, which is the clear part of your outer eye. Because the cornea is curved, it bends the lights that enter and transmits it to the retina, the light sensitive tissue in the back of your eye that changes the light into electric impulses.
