One Step Poem
East Asia Literature The sky sways on its foundation of fear (Zhenkai, One Step 145). This is a line
from Zhao Zhenkai s poem, One Step . Zhao Zhenkai is a poet from Beijing, China who writes under
the pen name Bei Dao. His negative outlooks in his literature make his pieces significant and
interesting. He was born in 1949 during the communist revolution. He grew up under communism and
experienced the Cultural Revolution. Zhao became a prominent leader of the democracy movement,
voicing his opinions in his writing. He specifically wrote three poems, Language , One Step , and A
Perpetual Stranger , to express his political opinions without direct consequences or censorship from
the Chinese government. Zhao Zhenkai writes these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction in this poem relates to how the author views his country as poisonous and negligent. He
says that things are filled with blind toadstools (Zhenkai, Language 147). Zhao views his government
officials as poisonous like toadstool fungi. He has no faith in his leaders and wants a change. The
author makes allusions to outside situations so that readers can better relate to China s condition. He
states that while trampling the flowers, the dandelion grows secretly (Zhenkai, Language 147). This is
saying that while the Chinese officials are trampling over the country, the democratic leaders are
flourishing. Their ideas would soon be heard and spread. The tone in Language is very similar to the
tone in One Step . The poem is simplistic and meaningful while having a harsh tone. It uses words
such as flimsy, trample, and collapse to describe China (Zhenkai, Language 147). Overall the poem is
impactful and well written. It will allow readers to see that it s good to voice their opinions. Zhenkai s
writing is an excellent example of peacefully opposing the

Essay On Making Things Better On Campus At Florida...
At least once in a person s life they will go through hard times. These hard times could be financial,
personal, tragic, or something that happened to them early in life that will haunt them forever. Some of
these hard times could have been self inflicted, or something someone can t help at all. Whenever
anything bad happens to us, we have the mentality that somehow it will get better. Whether a cut on
our knee we got on the playground in kindergarten, to losing a loved one who was close to you, it gets
better. We use this phrase to get us through the bad times and reminds us that there is a light at the end
of the tunnel. This positive outlook is also used when trying to make change whether on campus at
Florida Atlantic University (FAU) or social change. Making things better on campus needs actions that
present itself beneficial to many people, like parking, and by learning from mistakes from the past we
can take on more difficult things like social change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, at Florida Atlantic University students flock a very large outdoor walkway called the
Breezeway between classes. Getting to your class in time is hard enough without the distraction of the
several tables lined up on either side of the Breezeway trying to get your attention. These tables are set
up for clubs, activities, school events, frat and sorority life, and even raising awareness for causes.
While these tables are set up, walking down the Breezeway you are constantly being stopped, asked
questions, and being handed papers and cards to advertise for whatever the table is about. This is not a
good way to make things better on campus because it annoys people more than actually promoting.
What would work instead would be making promoting fun, social, and

Gender Aspects Of Gender
The way people look at gender has been changing over the past few years. Gender has always been a
social topic on what boys should do and what girls should do. Although, with the new generation, I
have seen people break the mold of gender stereotypes. Over the years, I have seen many classmates
and schools changing the status quo of gender. My generation has a different opinion on gender
stereotypes than my grandparents and even my parents. Gender stereotypes are changing with each
generation, whether it be through sports or the occupations people have.
My Grandparents went to high school in the mid 1950 s and women were not allowed to play many
sports back then. My Grandma told me that they thought the girls would get hurt. My grandmother
played basketball and they didn t let the girls cross the half court line. They had three girls on each
side so that they did not over exert themselves. Nowadays, girls can play almost any sport they want.
Hockey is a good example of how girls can play manlier sports. When people think of hockey, they
think of it more as a manlier sport, like football. There are so many girls that play hockey with the
same intensity as when men play. A good friend of mine, who went to the same middle school as me,
played on a travel hockey team. If you saw her, you would never expect her to play hockey. She
always wore dresses and has her hair done. She is not your typical hockey playing girl. After seeing
her play in a game, my impression of her changed. She was very physical when going after other
players with the puck. She would hit other players into the glass now and then. She could handle other
players hitting her pretty hard as well. She got rocked by one player and just got back up on her skates
and went back into the fray. Now, I believe she is the toughest girl I know. She completely breaks the
mold of the small, frail, girl stereotype.
Another example of girls playing a manlier sport would be football. I went to an all boys catholic high
school, and right next door to us was our sister school. Every year, the seniors and juniors would be
allowed to compete in powder puff football. They would practice all summer and after school in
September for a month. Some of the guys from our

Copyright Infringement Is The Unmistakable Reproduction Of...
Copyright infringement is the unmistakable reproduction of someone else s intellectual property. To
combat this issue, governments have passed many laws pertaining to the issue of online copyright and
piracy, though, these laws have not stopped people from committing online internet crimes. However,
those who commit copyright infringement online rarely know that they are committing a computer
crime because of how easy technology has made it to reproduce someone else s content. The
consequence of committing copyright infringement can vary from minuscule to drastic, typically
depending on how the two parties react. Regarding consequences, the ramifications that copyright, the
creator of the content to lose revenue and reputation; but they can gain popularity. Organizations
establish copyright rights over their intellectual property because companies are trying to protect and
prevent the reproduction of their creation or content. On the other hand, there are many creators that
do not know how to protect their property properly using copyright. This leads to the exploitation of
their content because they are unprotected by copyright laws. In order to protect a creator s content,
the creator must apply for copyright protection, which lasts for a limited period of time. Dan Burk, in
Copyright , explains a basic definition of copyright: a legal framework that protects some forms of
intellectual property. (Burk) Without copyright policies, a creator s property would not be

affected his motive to survive the concentration camp tremendously. Since the beginning of the book
where Louie was constantly bullied, he was able to take it and not complain. He was a marked boy.
Bullies, drawn by his oddity and hoping to goad him into uttering Italian curses, pelted him with
rocks, taunted him, punched him, and kicked him. He tried buying their mercy with his lunch, but they

My Experience In My Middle School
Middle school changes lives, it s as simple as that. It changes everything that you know about yourself
and your abilities, and turns it upside down. When you walk through the doors on your first day of
school, you are confident and ready for everything to come, but by the last day of eighth grade, you
are exhausted, almost as if the school itself sucked the life right out of you. And yet, you have new
friends, amazing teachers, and new interests that you had never even given a second thought before
middle school. I myself have had many experiences in the middle school, good and bad. On one
faithful day in fifth grade, I became acquainted with my close friend, Azzia Berestecki. At the time,
we hated each other with the passion of a bull charging at a rodeo clown painted red. She was the
popular one, always surrounded by friends, and lovingly accepting the rule of teacher s pet. I was the
quiet girl who had a small circle of friends, and I was considered weird and annoying by Azzia and her
friends. We went on like this for a while, hating each other for reasons none other than biases. Then, as
if by fate, we both joined the robolab team at the beginning of seventh grade. We regarded each other
at a bare minimum for a majority of the year, but then the unimaginable happened. My mother was
rushed to the emergency room and was taken in for brain surgery. She would not have been able to
drive me, or herself, to Pittsburgh and back for robolab s final competition of the

Ape Diving Behavior
Swimming and Diving Behavior in Apes
The focus of the article, Brief communication: Swimming and diving behavior in apes (Pan
troglodytes and Pongo pygmaeus): First documented report, is to present new data about the
evolutionary and ecological characteristics of water use in apes with video evidence of apes
swimming and diving. It also presents a hypothesis to discover the lack of instinct for swimming in
primates and humans.
The research started with two types of apes: a chimpanzee, Cooper, and an orangutan, Suryia. Both
were raised around humans and showed an interest in water at young ages. Cooper began dunking his
head in the bathtub at age four and later in the shallow end of a pool and Suryia was bathed each day

Because he could see underwater, he reached and successfully grabbed objects at the bottom of the
shallow end of the pool. When observations finished, Suryia improved his swimming and diving
abilities. He swam further distances from the shallow end of the pool to the deep end and became a
stronger swimmer. In the beginning of 2012, Suryia began swimming with his head above water and
now swims further distances. Although Cooper and Suryia learned to swim in two different places and
one was intentionally taught to swim unlike the other they both had similar swimming techniques. In
both situations, the apes were introduced to water in the shallow end of the pool so they could reach
the ground. Then they were slowly presented with deeper levels of water. Ultimately, this shows that
apes are not unable to swim, but they must learn it because they do not have the natural instinct to

San Francisco, California And Powell Streets
Nob Hill is located at the intersection of California and Powell streets, and has the reputation for being
an elite neighborhood in the city of San Francisco, California. This hilltop landmark continues to
attract visitors and today real estate buyers interested in San Francisco apartments for sale are looking
at these posh streets lined with history. Its charism from the past eras has enhanced the luminary
personality of this neighborhood.
Today, San Francisco apartments for sale in this influential neighborhood have an average listing price
of $759,000 compared to other areas of San Francisco of similar listing prices for $750,000. The
variances for square foot costs are computed as a result of the apartment s size and its location in the
neighborhood. Top of the hill tends to be higher with declining costs toward the mid section and
escalating again as you reach the lower level location on the city streets.
Here s an example, based on the current listings the average square foot apartment cost on Nob Hill
today. The differences are a direct result of the number of listings and final closing price for the area.
450 square foot $1083
598 square foot $897
791 square foot $676
The differences in pricing for San Francisco apartments for sale, compared to homes in the area are
the amenities built into the real estate determining its market value and the benefits of the location.

Plot Against America
In The Theory of Infantile Citizenship, Lauren Berlant classifies Washington DC as a domestic
crossroads wherein the local meets the national. Berlant investigates in detail the secrete mechanism in
which citizenship is created and multiplied in the intimate, and private, way but through the imagined
public sphere. She addresses the question of how a person begins to understand the country they feel
as though they belong to, and how one comes to comprehend themselves in relation to their country.
This leads to the acknowledgement of the separation of how one perceives their nation, versus how it
actually functions. In Philip Roth s The Plot Against America, the novel illustrates how the left liberal
comprehension of fascism has changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She describes that the restrictions of such a discussion can be witnessed in the fact that when juvenile
American citizens go to Washington DC and seek to grasp the nation in its totality, they unavoidably
compress the unlimited variables of experience of both DC and America:
It is through the landmarks of DC the memorials, the government bureaus, and the White House that
current citizens, potential citizens, and non potential citizens possibly experience the restorative
effects accessible through Washington s representative geography. In his novel, Roth places a fictional
version of his own Jewish family from Newark, New Jersey at the center of his antifascist novel,
thereby illustrating the impact of fascism on those marked as its Other. The author stated in his New
York Times essay that he intended the story to illustrate how his family would have reacted to such a
difficult, national calamity. The Plot Against America portrays an alternative history in which the
isolationist, Nazi sympathizer Charles Lindbergh wins the 1940 election, as opposed to FDR. Arising
out of the Republican Party, Lindbergh s America is somewhat understatedly fascist, being that it does
not eliminate political parties nor establish concentration camps on in the US. Rather, it allows fascist
triumphs overseas to continue unhindered

File Naming Conventions
Naming records in a consistent and predictable manner will distinguish similar files/records at a
glance. Facilitating the storage and retrieval of records which allows users to browse file names more
effectively and accurately. A standardized naming record according to an agreed convention should
make file naming easier, whether in a personal or professional setting. A good file naming convention
can help you to stay organized by making file identification easier and by grouping similar files close
together. Also can help others to easily navigate your work/files. Files with naming convention
provide a preview of content, are organized in a logical way (usually by date), identifies responsible
party, and shows work history. In a professional (business) setting, standardized file naming
conventions are a must, in my opinion. You and your co workers would need a system to follow as to
prevent confusion or errors in retrieving files/information. In a personal setting, a file naming
conventions probably wouldn t be as important. Although, with school and being in my fourth

Barbara Kingsolver is the author of many well written pieces of literature including The Poisonwood
Bible. This novel explores the beauty and hardships that exist in the Belgian Congo in 1959. Told by
the wife and four daughters of a fierce Baptist, Nathan Price, Kingsolver clearly captures the realities
this family and mission went through during their move to the Congo. The four daughters were raised

Difference Between Interest Groups And Political Parties
According to ushistory.org, there are four types of linkage institutions. Interest groups and political
parties are said to be linkage institutions . In this essay, I will be addressing why it is exactly that
interest groups and political parties fall under the category of linkage institutions, the similarities and
differences between interest groups and political parties, the differences in the roles that interest
groups and political parties play, and which of the two linkage institutions is most important to the
democratic processes. These topics are significant because interest groups and political parties keep
the people involved with government policy by giving people a chance to influence policy in our
country. The main purpose for this essay is to inform the reader of the differences between interest
groups and political parties and how the people can get more involved; more than just simply casting a
vote in elections.
Linkage institutions are defined by Wikipedia as, The structures that connect the people to the
government. According to chapter eight of the book, a political party is defined as, An ongoing
coalition of interests joined together in an effort to get its candidates for public office elected under a
common label. In more simple terms, a political party is a group of like minded individuals that try to
get their candidates, which support their ideas, to get elected. The words individuals and try to get

over 330,000 people and about 1,600 thousand square miles long. The majority of Brazoria County is
a combination of small towns that gradually get bigger as you get towards the Houston area. About
77.5% of the population is white, 13.5 is African American, 6.8 is Asian and the other 2.2 percent

How Does Vonnegut Use Satire In The Space Race
I choose the Space Race for my historical topic and I believe that it connects to Harrison Bergeron
because the short story shows how fast we are developing in technology. The fact that Vonnegut
thought of this in 1961 is amazing. Vonnegut uses satire in the piece by emphasizing the fact of just
because we can doesn t mean we should, making everyone equal would be possible but we shouldn t
do it. With the Space Race at the time it shows how we are developing at a fast pace and the short
story shows that if everyone was equal advancements would stop without the smart minds in the world

The Modern Law Of Murder
The modern law of murder developed over many centuries from the English common law of
homicide. Homicide is simply defined as the killing of another person. Before the 1500 s, common
law judges categorized homicide into two broad categories known as, criminal and noncriminal
homicides (Samaha, 2013). Over the next five decades, a number of newly developed statutes were
established and further divided criminal and noncriminal homicide. Criminal homicide included
murder and manslaughter, while noncriminal homicide was divided into justifiable and excusable
homicide (Samaha, 2013). By the 1700 s, three types of homicides were firmly embraced by English
common law and the American Colonies. The three categories according ... Show more content on

Murder, under common law, is the unlawful killing of another person in existence with malice
aforethought (Bower, 2014). In other words, an individual had to have a clear criminal intent with
some amount of spite, hate, or bad will to commit the killing before the murder occurred and had to be
planned in advance (Samaha, 2013). To illustrate, during the 1550 s, English homicide statutes
outlined activities such as poisoning or lying in wait as examples of preplanned murders. However,
while murder was initially only thought of as an intentional and premeditated act, over time judges
saw the need to develop new classifications of murders that didn t fit the standard definition. First,
sudden killings that were intentional, but not premeditated were added. These types of murder were
often completed during a heat of passion moment and were unreasonably provoked by the victim s
actions (Samaha, 2013). However, unreasonably provoked means that the victim s actions were not
substantial enough to justify the actions of the attacker. Secondly, judges added unintentional killings
that were completed during a felony (Samaha, 2013). While most murders require intent to cause
death, under this law, any homicide committed during the commission of a felony, regardless of
whether it s intentional or accidental will constitute as murder. Third, extremely reckless killings were
classified as depraved heart

Sleep affects our daily functioning and our physical and mental health. It is characterized by a number
of things such as a reduction on voluntary movement, decreased reaction to external stimuli, an
increased rate of anabolism, decrease rate of catabolism, a stereotypic posture, and reversibility. The
sleep cycle consists of two types of sleep and five stages. Stages 1 4 are NREM (non rapid eye

low amplitude, high frequency EEG (electroencephalography) rhythms, whereas NREM sleep

When we sleep, important connections are strengthened and unimportant ones are pruned (Ghosh,
2015). Sleep is also an opportunity for the brain to be cleared of any unwanted waste and plays an
important role in memory consolidation. Benington and Heller, researchers at Stanford, stated, Sleep
has therefore evolved as a state in which animals retreat to a safe environment, behavior is suppressed,
and glycogen stores are replenished. Sleep serves as a survival function. Without it, it interferes with
information processing and specifically learning and memory (Nierenberg, 2016). This makes it more
difficult for people to respond to their environment, have motivation to do things, and to recover from

Gulf Oil Corp
Gulf Oil Corp. Takeover
Summary of Facts o George Keller of the Standard Oil Company of California (Socal) is trying to
determine how much he wants to bid on Gulf Oil Corporation. Gulf will not consider bids below $70
per share even though their last closing price per share was valued at $43. o Between 1978 and 1982,
Gulf doubled its exploration and development expenses to increase their oil reserves. In 1983, Gulf
began reducing exploration expenditures considerably due to declining oil prices as Gulf management
repurchased 30 million of their 195 million shares outstanding. o The Gulf Oil takeover was due to a
recent takeover attempt by Boone Pickens, Jr. of Mesa Petroleum Company. He and a group of
investors had spent $638 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Production in 1983 was 290 million composite barrels, and this was assumed to be constant until 1991
when the remaining 283 million barrels are produced. o Production costs were held constant relative
to the production amount, including depreciation due to the unit of production method currently used
by Gulf (Production will be the same, so depreciation amount will be the same) o Because Gulf uses
the LIFO method to account for inventory, it is assumed that new reserves are expensed the same year
that they are discovered and all other exploratory costs, including geological and geophysical costs are
charged against income as incurred. o Since there will be no more exploration going forward, the only
expenses that will be considered are the costs involved with production to deplete the reserves. o The
price of oil was not expected to rise in the next ten years, and since inflation affects both the selling
price of oil and the cost of production, it cancels itself out and was negated in the cash flow analysis. o
Revenues minus expenses determined the cash flows for years 1984 1991. The cash flows cease in
1991 after all oil and gas reserves are liquidated. The cash flows derived account for the liquidation of
the oil and gas assets only, and do not account for liquidating other assets such as current assets or net
properties. The cash flows were then discounted by net present value using Gulf s cost of capital as the
discount rate. Total cash flows until

Benefits Of Police Body Cameras
The need for police officers to be equipped with body cameras while on duty is crucial in rebuilding
community relations and increasing police accountability. As such, there are various benefits and
consequences in the implementation of this proposed policy for all police departments. While benefits
include lowering rates of police misconduct, increased accountability and transparency, improved
officer training, providing effective evidence for trials and reduction of civilian complaints, there are
consequences such as the upfront cost of police cameras, legal and privacy concerns and reliability of
body camera footage. The adoption of police body cameras has both positive and negative merits

Recording from police cameras could aid as a tool in officer training, as it could be used to observe
where and how officers could correct their behavior. Captured footage from the cameras could be
integrated in the police academy training programs, along with courses on sensitive topics such as
racial bias and sexism, to provide new officers with a foundation that exposes them to real incidents
that have happened in the field. Officers will be able to learn what encounters with members of the
community should and should not look like (Harvard Law Review, 2015). Police body cameras will
allow police departments to tailor their trainings and equip their officers with the knowledge they need
so that officers themselves can better regulate their own behavior as well.
Providing Evidence for Trials. Footage captured from police body cameras can be used as evidence in
cases and trials, providing objective information relating to whether law enforcement officers and their
use of force in the field are justifiable. Recorded footage has the advantage of documenting the series
of events that have happened and confirms the accuracy of police reports or statements (Harvard Law
Review, 2015). Police cameras and the footage that is collected can be used as an aid to help
prosecutors secure evidence to prosecute

Early Expression Of Religious Art
Roger Turner HUM 220 OM1 14 September 2015 Early Expression of Religious Art found in China,
Africa and Europe AFRICAArtwork from Africa dates back to prehistoric times. Early forms of
painting found in Africa are cave paintings showing men and animals on the walls. The practice of
representing life with simple animal and human figures is universal in all early civilizations. The
Native African Religions were monotheistic, one God. The African believe that this God was a far off
God. People would only appeal to this God in times of dire need, as when a danger was threatening
the very existence of the whole tribe. God created their world, visible and invisible. The invisible
world is inhabited by all sorts beings: spirits, (gentle or evil), ancestors who passed to the invisible
world after their death. The beings in the invisible world could be called upon for assistance. The
ordinary life of the visible world was entrusted to the invisible world beings by God. Therefore
Africans would invoke them, pray to them, offer sacrifices to them. Carved wooden figures often
represent the homes of the gods who rule the tribesmen. An African who has a carved figure (fetish)
may address the spirit that lives in it. He believed that the spirit would protect him. It is believed that
the earliest forms of spiritual art work were wood carvings. These wood carvings did not survive due
to weather conditions and termites that are prevalent in the region. The earliest surviving religious

Protestant Reformation Research Paper
Reformation
In the first half of the sixteenth century Western Europe experienced a wide range of social, artistic,
political changes as the result of a conflict within the Catholic church. This conflict is called the
Protestant Reformation, and the Catholic response to it is called the Counter Reformation.
The Reformation began when Martin Luther posted his Ninety Five theses against the indulgences of
the Church. These indulgences included if you did a good dead, this reduced the amount of
punishment which you deserved for your bad deeds, and which God would make you suffer after your
death before letting you into Heaven. Giving money to the Church was considered a good dead. If you
wanted to you could pay for the indulgences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On his way home he disappeared. What had started as a furious attempt to reform the church overnight
turned into a project of building a new church independent of the Catholic Church.
While Germany struggled under the political and religious consequences of Luther s reform
movement, the movement itself quickly spilled out of the German borders into neighboring
Switzerland. At the time, Switzerland was not a single country but a confederacy of thirteen city states
called cantons. When Luther s ideas began to pour over the border, several of the cantons broke from
the Catholic church and became Protestant while other cantons remained firmly Catholic. Of the
cantons that adopted Luther s new movement, the most important and powerful was the city state of
Zurich under the leadership of Ulrich Zwingli. He was popular in Zurich for his opposition to Swiss
mercenary service in foreign wars and his attacks on indulgences; he was, as significant a player in the
critique of indulgences as Luther himself.
Zwingli rose through the ranks of the Catholic Church until he was appointed People s Priest in 1519,
the most powerful ecclesiastical position in the city. In 1523, the city officially adopted Zwingli s
central ecclesiastical reforms and became the first Protestant state outside of Germany. From there the
Protestant revolution would sweep across the map of Switzerland. Zwingli s theology and morality
were based on a single principle that

The Theme Of Good Vs Evil In Beowulf
In this excerpt the evil makes its apparition as part of the overall theme good vs evil . This is shown in
the first lines when Grendel is described as A powerful monster, living down in the darkness (lines 1

The battle between the two opposing forces begins when Grendel starts slaying Hrothgar s warriors,

Getting to meet and spend time with a famous person is one of my goals and dreams. In order for it to

Summary Of Angry Young Men By Aaron Kipnis
INTRODUCTION
This is a review of Angry Young Men , a book written by Aaron Kipnis, P.h.D. The book highlights
the issues arising with bad boys ; how they got to where they are right now (juvenile hall, addiction
centers, etc.), what changes we can make as a society and as care givers so that this issue will get
better, and how to help them change themselves for the improvement of themselves and our society.
Kipnis, is attempting to help solve the problem of how people (teachers, counselors, parents, etc.) can
better help young boys in need of support (angry, addicted, Bad , etc.). In Kipnis book, he addresses
the problems (angry young men) and gives a list of examples or reasons in which they got here (bad

Future research might consist of more in depth information about how these bad boys got to where
they are now (detention centers, juvenile hall, foster care, etc.), perhaps looking at what the boys
might have found helpful to their positive rehabilitation. Probably the most effective place to start
further research would be with the programs that help these young men improve themselves, whether
that means getting them back in school if they have dropped out, helping them with legal issues, or
helping them with addiction, etc. If we could research these and maybe follow an individual from start
(admission to detention center) to finish (through these services and hopefully back into society) we
might be able to better see where our services are falling short for these young men. Again, this is
something that will always be an issue but what we can do to fix it is try to become better at our
approaches to these problems when they first arise. Kipnis highlights this premise well in saying,
Helping marked men become good men generally requires a thoughtful, well developed, committed
plan of action; leaders who work well with challenging clients; wide access to resources; and vigorous
support from community institutions. (Kipnis pg. 207 208). There is no solution to this problem
because there will always be this issue in our society. So while this book did not offer a solution per
say, it did offer new information to be looked at in order to find more effective way to deal with these
issues and also gave great insight for parent s teachers, counselors, etc. dealing with an angry young

An Overview Of Financial Management And The Financial...
An Overview of Financial Management and the Financial Environment
Matthew Ellsworth
Abstract
Financial Management usually involves the process of planning, organizing and controlling the
financial activities of any enterprise to achieve the goals and objectives in financial terms of that
enterprise. The main objectives of financial management would be to create wealth for the business in
terms of movable cash for the organization and to ensure that the target return in investments is meet
at all times. The three key elements in financial management in simple terms may be put as a three
step continuous process involving financial planning, financial control and financial decision making.
In this post, we will discuss the types of company ownerships, the objectives and the derivatives.
Overview of Financial Management and Financial Environment Financial Management is concerned
with achieving the overall goals of the business firm by acquiring, financing and controlling the assets
of the firm. Financial Management can be described as an integrated decision making process as it has
a virtual impact on the achievement of the overall organizational goal. There are three key elements in
financial management namely financial planning, financial control and financial decision making. In
financial planning the management needs to ensure that enough funding is available to meet the
requirements of that business. Financial control is the most important activity which

employees with paid time off, but for those that do it would be in the best interest of the organization
to have a written policy to prevent confusion. First, employees are able to manage their work/life

The Bedford V. Prostitution Case
Prostitution is one of the oldest professions throughout the ancient and modern culture. It has been
around for one of the longest times. Prostitution will possibly be found where one finds evidence of
life and human. By definition, prostitution is known as commercial sex. A prostitute receives payment
in exchange for sexual services between another person. However, the criminalization of prostitution
is necessary in most countries as there is capital gain involved, puts the environment at a greater risk
of violence, and causes less protection for sex workers. Most countries including Canada have done an
effective job in outlawing prostitution with new legislations. Current Canadian laws tend to respect
sex workers and additionally, address their issues as well. Within my essay, facts about the Bedford V.
Prostitution case along with the government s response to the case will be addressed. Media coverage
and representation of the case will be discussed along with the media coverage in relation to
criminalization of prostitution amongst different viewpoints will be analyzed. A critical opinion about
the current state of law in Canada in regards to criminalization of prostitution will also be addressed.
Comparison between the academic articles and media will also be discussed in depth. The current laws
in Canada for prostitution are fairly effective by ending demand for sexual services in Canada as Bill
C 36 was passed. In 2007, three sex workers, Terri

Essay on Castle of Otranto Preface Analysis
Horace Walpole (1717 1797) invented the Gothic novel in his attempt to blend wildness and
imagination of the old romance, in his own words an attempt to blend the two kinds of romance, the
ancient and the modern in one step altogether, the Castle of Otranto. A novel he claimed to have
written immediately after being inspired by a dream, I waked one morning...from a dream, of which
all I could recover was, that I had thought myself in an ancient castle...I saw a gigantic hand in
armour. In the evening I sat down and began to write (Letter, 9th march 1765). On the other hand
many would more quickly agree that the writing of this novel was a mere `specialized development of
his taste as a virtuoso and collector (Holt et al. 230). All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Authenticity was primary because for many years fiction was distrusted. Why would one read a book
that was not true? True stories were more compelling and exciting because they were actual events.
Thus it s a common pose for author, including Walpole, to claim that the storey was true. To do this
Walpole fussed over the date of composition, it was printed ... in the year 1529 (15), the probable
author from the Original Italian of Onuphrio Muralto (title page), that the author s style is purest
Italian (15) and so forth to create the impression that readers were holding a genuine translation of a
genuine document.
The `translator then enforced authority by supplying his own ethos (character and hence credibility)
by way of revealing the characteristics of a careful scholar. He named the place of publication, it was
printed in Naples (15) and noted that the novel was printed in black letter (15) as details that made him
sound like a scholar. The uses of details were indicators of carefulness and factuality. General and
vague accounts were usually deemed unreliable, while specific ones were judged to be more credible
and accurate. Thus, the detailed preface provided both an air of authenticity and a sense of authority
for the supposed translator to the claim for the text.
The eighteenth century readers were told by the first edition that the book was printed in 1529, while
inner evidence in the story might put the writing between

These are not perfect similarities or differences. At least in the way that someone could say that
Abraham Lincoln freed slaves or Thomas Jefferson owned them. There are two similarities with the
preceding statement. First, both of the Presidents tried to maintain the integrity of the union. The faster
your state expands the harder it is to maintain control and placing a nation under the support of those
who would advocate it be left intact is the lesser of two evils. The second way is that both of their
policies would have been in opposition to Southern Democrats. This is because Texas would have
entered the union a slave state and Southerners would have been opposed to anti slavery Northerners
holding office.
A few other thoughts I had about these men and their party was. This party iteration of the Democrat
seems to have more in common with the Democratic Republicans of the Jeffersonian era rather than
the Democrats around the time President Abraham Lincoln was elected. I reached this conclusion
because the Democrats of the time had a platform of free market economics ie. the use of gold as

Thomas Malthus—Section Summary
Thomas Malthus Section Summary Malthus work, Essay on the Principle of Population, is often cited,
first by Darwin himself, to have influenced Darwin s conception of the theory of natural selection. His
work, though unpopular, and often proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the forefront many
socio economic issues that are still being debated today: population control, food production and
concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population. In this passage it is
stated that Malthus was proven wrong: ...Malthus dire predictions have proven to be wrong...

Malthus determined that during this particular scarcity of bread, that though the shortage was less than
comparable shortages in other European countries, the cost of bread was 3 times as high as normal
when, by comparison, the other countries with worse shortages of bread and bread ingredients, only
demonstrated a doubling of prices. Malthus was obviously very aware of the effect pricing could have
on food supplies and production. Another criticism of Malthus that is only alluded to in the text is his
tendency to heap an undue amount of blame on the lower classes for their role in population growth:
An 1881 report concluded that 80 percent of famine victims were drawn from the poorest 20 percent
of the population...Thus, if the government spent more of its revenue on famine relief, an even larger
proportion of the population would become penurious...although the administration was divided about
the value of famine relief, these Malthusian views undoubtedly affected its volume and timing

intentionally the fault of the poor and lowest social classes, but that it was their inability

Education Reform Needs For A Higher Education System
Education reform needs to be one of the top priorities among our country. Our current educational
system requires people to pay thousands of dollars for a higher education. Students are forced to take
out loans that put them into severe debt for the duration of their live. Low income students, especially,
do not have many options nor are they able to afford higher education and the price is steadily
increasing. It is the government s duty to make this at the forefront of their problems because
education is tied to national success, and will only strengthen our country. Like most things, this issue
is very heavily divided among partisan lines. With the various views on the matter, it seems only the
Democratic party has the best interests of our students. In order to provide a successful national higher
education system in which students won t be in debt trying to acquire a degree, the government has to
bring about serious reform. The steps that have been taken include some form of free college for those
who simply cannot afford it, providing enough financial aid to make up for the lack there is today,
lowering interest rates on loans that cripple our nation in debt, ensuring the needs of low income
families are met, and last but certainly not least providing recent graduates with more job
opportunities. There are people in this country who cannot afford to go to college but should be given

  • 2. One Step Poem East Asia Literature The sky sways on its foundation of fear (Zhenkai, One Step 145). This is a line from Zhao Zhenkai s poem, One Step . Zhao Zhenkai is a poet from Beijing, China who writes under the pen name Bei Dao. His negative outlooks in his literature make his pieces significant and interesting. He was born in 1949 during the communist revolution. He grew up under communism and experienced the Cultural Revolution. Zhao became a prominent leader of the democracy movement, voicing his opinions in his writing. He specifically wrote three poems, Language , One Step , and A Perpetual Stranger , to express his political opinions without direct consequences or censorship from the Chinese government. Zhao Zhenkai writes these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diction in this poem relates to how the author views his country as poisonous and negligent. He says that things are filled with blind toadstools (Zhenkai, Language 147). Zhao views his government officials as poisonous like toadstool fungi. He has no faith in his leaders and wants a change. The author makes allusions to outside situations so that readers can better relate to China s condition. He states that while trampling the flowers, the dandelion grows secretly (Zhenkai, Language 147). This is saying that while the Chinese officials are trampling over the country, the democratic leaders are flourishing. Their ideas would soon be heard and spread. The tone in Language is very similar to the tone in One Step . The poem is simplistic and meaningful while having a harsh tone. It uses words such as flimsy, trample, and collapse to describe China (Zhenkai, Language 147). Overall the poem is impactful and well written. It will allow readers to see that it s good to voice their opinions. Zhenkai s writing is an excellent example of peacefully opposing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Making Things Better On Campus At Florida... At least once in a person s life they will go through hard times. These hard times could be financial, personal, tragic, or something that happened to them early in life that will haunt them forever. Some of these hard times could have been self inflicted, or something someone can t help at all. Whenever anything bad happens to us, we have the mentality that somehow it will get better. Whether a cut on our knee we got on the playground in kindergarten, to losing a loved one who was close to you, it gets better. We use this phrase to get us through the bad times and reminds us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This positive outlook is also used when trying to make change whether on campus at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) or social change. Making things better on campus needs actions that present itself beneficial to many people, like parking, and by learning from mistakes from the past we can take on more difficult things like social change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, at Florida Atlantic University students flock a very large outdoor walkway called the Breezeway between classes. Getting to your class in time is hard enough without the distraction of the several tables lined up on either side of the Breezeway trying to get your attention. These tables are set up for clubs, activities, school events, frat and sorority life, and even raising awareness for causes. While these tables are set up, walking down the Breezeway you are constantly being stopped, asked questions, and being handed papers and cards to advertise for whatever the table is about. This is not a good way to make things better on campus because it annoys people more than actually promoting. What would work instead would be making promoting fun, social, and ... • 4. Gender Aspects Of Gender The way people look at gender has been changing over the past few years. Gender has always been a social topic on what boys should do and what girls should do. Although, with the new generation, I have seen people break the mold of gender stereotypes. Over the years, I have seen many classmates and schools changing the status quo of gender. My generation has a different opinion on gender stereotypes than my grandparents and even my parents. Gender stereotypes are changing with each generation, whether it be through sports or the occupations people have. My Grandparents went to high school in the mid 1950 s and women were not allowed to play many sports back then. My Grandma told me that they thought the girls would get hurt. My grandmother played basketball and they didn t let the girls cross the half court line. They had three girls on each side so that they did not over exert themselves. Nowadays, girls can play almost any sport they want. Hockey is a good example of how girls can play manlier sports. When people think of hockey, they think of it more as a manlier sport, like football. There are so many girls that play hockey with the same intensity as when men play. A good friend of mine, who went to the same middle school as me, played on a travel hockey team. If you saw her, you would never expect her to play hockey. She always wore dresses and has her hair done. She is not your typical hockey playing girl. After seeing her play in a game, my impression of her changed. She was very physical when going after other players with the puck. She would hit other players into the glass now and then. She could handle other players hitting her pretty hard as well. She got rocked by one player and just got back up on her skates and went back into the fray. Now, I believe she is the toughest girl I know. She completely breaks the mold of the small, frail, girl stereotype. Another example of girls playing a manlier sport would be football. I went to an all boys catholic high school, and right next door to us was our sister school. Every year, the seniors and juniors would be allowed to compete in powder puff football. They would practice all summer and after school in September for a month. Some of the guys from our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Copyright Infringement Is The Unmistakable Reproduction Of... Copyright infringement is the unmistakable reproduction of someone else s intellectual property. To combat this issue, governments have passed many laws pertaining to the issue of online copyright and piracy, though, these laws have not stopped people from committing online internet crimes. However, those who commit copyright infringement online rarely know that they are committing a computer crime because of how easy technology has made it to reproduce someone else s content. The consequence of committing copyright infringement can vary from minuscule to drastic, typically depending on how the two parties react. Regarding consequences, the ramifications that copyright, the creator of the content to lose revenue and reputation; but they can gain popularity. Organizations establish copyright rights over their intellectual property because companies are trying to protect and prevent the reproduction of their creation or content. On the other hand, there are many creators that do not know how to protect their property properly using copyright. This leads to the exploitation of their content because they are unprotected by copyright laws. In order to protect a creator s content, the creator must apply for copyright protection, which lasts for a limited period of time. Dan Burk, in Copyright , explains a basic definition of copyright: a legal framework that protects some forms of intellectual property. Samantha Ochoa s Answer: I believe that Louie Zamparini s childhood has affected his motive to survive the concentration camp tremendously. Since the beginning of the book where Louie was constantly bullied, he was able to take it and not complain. He was a marked boy. Bullies, drawn by his oddity and hoping to goad him into uttering Italian curses, pelted him with rocks, taunted him, punched him, and kicked him. • 7. My Experience In My Middle School Middle school changes lives, it s as simple as that. It changes everything that you know about yourself and your abilities, and turns it upside down. When you walk through the doors on your first day of school, you are confident and ready for everything to come, but by the last day of eighth grade, you are exhausted, almost as if the school itself sucked the life right out of you. And yet, you have new friends, amazing teachers, and new interests that you had never even given a second thought before middle school. I myself have had many experiences in the middle school, good and bad. On one faithful day in fifth grade, I became acquainted with my close friend, Azzia Berestecki. At the time, we hated each other with the passion of a bull charging at a rodeo clown painted red. She was the popular one, always surrounded by friends, and lovingly accepting the rule of teacher s pet. I was the quiet girl who had a small circle of friends, and I was considered weird and annoying by Azzia and her friends. We went on like this for a while, hating each other for reasons none other than biases. Then, as if by fate, we both joined the robolab team at the beginning of seventh grade. We regarded each other at a bare minimum for a majority of the year, but then the unimaginable happened. My mother was rushed to the emergency room and was taken in for brain surgery. Berlant investigates in detail the secrete mechanism in which citizenship is created and multiplied in the intimate, and private, way but through the imagined public sphere. She addresses the question of how a person begins to understand the country they feel as though they belong to, and how one comes to comprehend themselves in relation to their country. This leads to the acknowledgement of the separation of how one perceives their nation, versus how it actually functions. In his novel, Roth places a fictional version of his own Jewish family from Newark, New Jersey at the center of his antifascist novel, thereby illustrating the impact of fascism on those marked as its Other. The author stated in his New York Times essay that he intended the story to illustrate how his family would have reacted to such a difficult, national calamity. These topics are significant because interest groups and political parties keep the people involved with government policy by giving people a chance to influence policy in our country. The main purpose for this essay is to inform the reader of the differences between interest groups and political parties and how the people can get more involved; more than just simply casting a vote in elections. Before the 1500 s, common law judges categorized homicide into two broad categories known as, criminal and noncriminal homicides (Samaha, 2013). Over the next five decades, a number of newly developed statutes were established and further divided criminal and noncriminal homicide. Murder, under common law, is the unlawful killing of another person in existence with malice aforethought (Bower, 2014). In other words, an individual had to have a clear criminal intent with some amount of spite, hate, or bad will to commit the killing before the murder occurred and had to be planned in advance (Samaha, 2013). To illustrate, during the 1550 s, English homicide statutes outlined activities such as poisoning or lying in wait as examples of preplanned murders. However, while murder was initially only thought of as an intentional and premeditated act, over time judges saw the need to develop new classifications of murders that didn t fit the standard definition. First, sudden killings that were intentional, but not premeditated were added. These types of murder were often completed during a heat of passion moment and were unreasonably provoked by the victim s actions (Samaha, 2013). However, unreasonably provoked means that the victim s actions were not substantial enough to justify the actions of the attacker. Secondly, judges added unintentional killings that were completed during a felony (Samaha, 2013). The practice of representing life with simple animal and human figures is universal in all early civilizations. The Native African Religions were monotheistic, one God. • 27. Summary Of Angry Young Men By Aaron Kipnis INTRODUCTION This is a review of Angry Young Men , a book written by Aaron Kipnis, P.h.D. The book highlights the issues arising with bad boys ; how they got to where they are right now (juvenile hall, addiction centers, etc.), what changes we can make as a society and as care givers so that this issue will get better, and how to help them change themselves for the improvement of themselves and our society. Kipnis, is attempting to help solve the problem of how people (teachers, counselors, parents, etc.) can better help young boys in need of support (angry, addicted, Bad , etc.). In Kipnis book, he addresses the problems (angry young men) and gives a list of examples or reasons in which they got here (bad home life, addiction, etc.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Future research might consist of more in depth information about how these bad boys got to where they are now (detention centers, juvenile hall, foster care, etc.), perhaps looking at what the boys might have found helpful to their positive rehabilitation. Probably the most effective place to start further research would be with the programs that help these young men improve themselves, whether that means getting them back in school if they have dropped out, helping them with legal issues, or helping them with addiction, etc. If we could research these and maybe follow an individual from start (admission to detention center) to finish (through these services and hopefully back into society) we might be able to better see where our services are falling short for these young men. Again, this is something that will always be an issue but what we can do to fix it is try to become better at our approaches to these problems when they first arise. Kipnis highlights this premise well in saying, Helping marked men become good men generally requires a thoughtful, well developed, committed plan of action; leaders who work well with challenging clients; wide access to resources; and vigorous support from community institutions. (Kipnis pg. 207 208). There is no solution to this problem because there will always be this issue in our society. So while this book did not offer a solution per say, it did offer new information to be looked at in order to find more effective way to deal with these issues and also gave great insight for parent s teachers, counselors, etc. dealing with an angry young man or ... Employee Paid Time Effectively managing and retaining today s human capital is a continual process that is affected by every policy, procedure and decision related to people (Brundage Koziel, 2010). There are benefits of paid time off other than reducing the amount of unscheduled time off. Not all employers provide employees with paid time off, but for those that do it would be in the best interest of the organization to have a written policy to prevent confusion. • 30. The Bedford V. Prostitution Case Prostitution is one of the oldest professions throughout the ancient and modern culture. It has been around for one of the longest times. Prostitution will possibly be found where one finds evidence of life and human. By definition, prostitution is known as commercial sex. A prostitute receives payment in exchange for sexual services between another person. However, the criminalization of prostitution is necessary in most countries as there is capital gain involved, puts the environment at a greater risk of violence, and causes less protection for sex workers. Most countries including Canada have done an effective job in outlawing prostitution with new legislations. Current Canadian laws tend to respect sex workers and additionally, address their issues as well. Within my essay, facts about the Bedford V. Prostitution case along with the government s response to the case will be addressed. Media coverage and representation of the case will be discussed along with the media coverage in relation to criminalization of prostitution amongst different viewpoints will be analyzed. A critical opinion about the current state of law in Canada in regards to criminalization of prostitution will also be addressed. Comparison between the academic articles and media will also be discussed in depth. The current laws in Canada for prostitution are fairly effective by ending demand for sexual services in Canada as Bill C 36 was passed. In 2007, three sex workers, Terri ... • 31. Essay on Castle of Otranto Preface Analysis Horace Walpole (1717 1797) invented the Gothic novel in his attempt to blend wildness and imagination of the old romance, in his own words an attempt to blend the two kinds of romance, the ancient and the modern in one step altogether, the Castle of Otranto. A novel he claimed to have written immediately after being inspired by a dream, I waked one morning...from a dream, of which all I could recover was, that I had thought myself in an ancient castle...I saw a gigantic hand in armour. In the evening I sat down and began to write (Letter, 9th march 1765). On the other hand many would more quickly agree that the writing of this novel was a mere `specialized development of his taste as a virtuoso and collector (Holt et al. 230). All ... True stories were more compelling and exciting because they were actual events. Thus it s a common pose for author, including Walpole, to claim that the storey was true. To do this Walpole fussed over the date of composition, it was printed ... in the year 1529 (15), the probable author from the Original Italian of Onuphrio Muralto (title page), that the author s style is purest Italian (15) and so forth to create the impression that readers were holding a genuine translation of a genuine document. The `translator then enforced authority by supplying his own ethos (character and hence credibility) by way of revealing the characteristics of a careful scholar. He named the place of publication, it was printed in Naples (15) and noted that the novel was printed in black letter (15) as details that made him sound like a scholar. The uses of details were indicators of carefulness and factuality. General and vague accounts were usually deemed unreliable, while specific ones were judged to be more credible and accurate. Thus, the detailed preface provided both an air of authenticity and a sense of authority for the supposed translator to the claim for the text. The eighteenth century readers were told by the first edition that the book was printed in 1529, while inner evidence in the story might put the writing between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both Presidents were in the United States Senate and were appointed Ministers to foreign countries. Another key similarity is that they both only served one term. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are not perfect similarities or differences. At least in the way that someone could say that Abraham Lincoln freed slaves or Thomas Jefferson owned them. There are two similarities with the preceding statement. First, both of the Presidents tried to maintain the integrity of the union. The faster your state expands the harder it is to maintain control and placing a nation under the support of those who would advocate it be left intact is the lesser of two evils. The second way is that both of their policies would have been in opposition to Southern Democrats. This is because Texas would have entered the union a slave state and Southerners would have been opposed to anti slavery Northerners holding office. A few other thoughts I had about these men and their party was. This party iteration of the Democrat seems to have more in common with the Democratic Republicans of the Jeffersonian era rather than the Democrats around the time President Abraham Lincoln was elected. His work, though unpopular, and often proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the forefront many socio economic issues that are still being debated today: population control, food production and concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population. Malthus was obviously very aware of the effect pricing could have on food supplies and production. Our current educational system requires people to pay thousands of dollars for a higher education. Students are forced to take out loans that put them into severe debt for the duration of their live. Low income students, especially, do not have many options nor are they able to afford higher education and the price is steadily increasing. It is the government s duty to make this at the forefront of their problems because education is tied to national success, and will only strengthen our country. Like most things, this issue is very heavily divided among partisan lines. With the various views on the matter, it seems only the Democratic party has the best interests of our students. In order to provide a successful national higher education system in which students won t be in debt trying to acquire a degree, the government has to bring about serious reform. The steps that have been taken include some form of free college for those who simply cannot afford it, providing enough financial aid to make up for the lack there is today, lowering interest rates on loans that cripple our nation in debt, ensuring the needs of low income families are met, and last but certainly not least providing recent graduates with more job opportunities.
