The Influence Of Life In Colonial America
Daily life during the colonial American days was were rough and began the marking period for
America. The colonial period set the stage for what we have today in American history such as what
we grow and where we grow them. Anything from the clothing made to the foods we grow has been
discovered during the colonial period. The start of the colonial period stood for rough livelihood by
1774 the ability to sustain life had been reached and reflects some parts of the modern world today. As
for the Virginia Colony of 1775 there were millions of people living in the colonies and there were
about 500,000 living in Virginia. Based off of those numbers we can see that Virginia was a popular
place to be, Virginia was not full of wealthy people such as planters and merchants but there were a
small significant amount that stood at two percent lived in cities such as Richmond, Williamsburg, and
Fredericksburg. There were about 200,000 people living in Virginia where enslaved African
Americans, they worked in tobacco fields. Life for the slaves was considered cruel and working from
sun up to sun down for their white masters. Slaves were brought in from Africa to work the crops, they
were often sold and traded yet very expensive. Slaves were needed but made to feel inferior because
their purpose at the time was strictly for economic purposes; this ... Show more content on

The Constitution And The United States
The Constitution was written with one principal issue in mind: factions. This central point of tension
within any government has remained a founding principle in the United States, and a strong national
government is the answer to this issue. By creating a representative and balanced national core the
country is given the best chances to avoid tyranny. While these ideals have worked well in the United
States, the Constitution has fallen short of its original goals. Control of the US is now placed in a two
party system, and too often in corporate control, both factions inadequately checked by the current
system. A document rooted in 200 year old ideology has seen its time come and go, and today the
nation needs a new base, founded on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madison postulates that a larger national government will more effectively prevent tyranny for two
reasons. He states first that representatives must be raised to a certain number, in order to guard
against the cabals of a few . With only a limited number of representatives, the ability for a faction to
take control is greater. Increased diversity with in the deciding body is necessary to protect against
these dangers. He also states that a larger pool of voters can prevent unethical swaying of elections,
and therefore prevent tyranny. Another view presented in The Federalist Papers was the necessity of a
cumbersome government. An expedient government is one in which laws can be changed quickly, and
one in which justice is easily avoided. An example can be taken from the Committee of Public Safety
during the French revolution. Here, expediency was great and tyranny the result. The constitution
addresses the controlling of faction specifically. The system s aim is to create a cumbersome, checked
government that will prevent a faction control. The principle method employed to achieve this end is
to divide powers, and to create a system of checks and balances to insure that each power achieves
their designated role within the whole of the government. The powers outlined being the legislative,
the executive, and the judicial; each piece checking the others. Take, for example, the legislative

Should Pluto Be Considered A Planet Essay
Many may urge that Pluto should be considered a planet for it has similar characteristics as the planets
of the Solar System; however, others still believe that Pluto should not be considered a planet because
of its slight differences and conditions that are not matched.
Pluto is recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) as a dwarf planet for it doesn t
match the third condition of what defines a planet. IAU proposed three conditions to becoming a
planet. The first condition being: (a) is in orbit around the Sun; the second condition being: (b) has
sufficient mass for its self gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic
equilibrium (nearly round) shape; the third condition, in which Pluto has not met the standards to,
being:(c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit. Pluto doesn t meet the standards to the final
condition as Pluto follows the orbit path of some asteroid like objects in space and are surrounded
with these objects. If people were to ignore the third condition and recognise Pluto ... Show more

Reporters with interest in Pluto have published many articles related to the matter of whether Pluto
should be considered a planet. Many are opposing the opinion that Pluto should not be considered a
planet as the third condition is very vague. For instance, the Earth s neighbourhood could be
considered as not cleared out as the moon is following it around; Jupiter is continuously having
contact with asteroids named Trojans, and Neptune s orbit crosses over with Pluto s orbit. The
Guardian stated in one of it s articles that Pluto should not have a ban from being a planet due to its
small size. IAU, however, has not made any regards on this criticism. These opposing views about
Pluto may be correct in a way; however, factually speaking, Pluto is still not considered as a planet as
IAU has not made any changes towards its definition of the word,

Optimize . The scope includes personal observations and conversations held with various department
heads and the resulting inferences made. This executive summary will recap the situation; formulate
conclusions, and present recommendations for actions to be taken to remedy the obstacles that are
evident.
Summary of the Situation
Project Operation Optimize has effectively stalled. Our research shows that our competition is steps

She believes that the use of outside resources will benefit the project. Neither Lambert nor Thomas
appears to be willing to reach a compromise, since both are so intent on defending their positions.
Thomas is particularly upset that Lambert approached and questioned one of his staff without his prior
knowledge.
Chris Martinas, vice president of Product Development, argues that the iScanner product can be
brought to market with minimal hardware changes. He believes that Marketing and Software
Development can work together to work out the details. While he may be correct in his evaluation
about minimal hardware changes, he has not considered software changes that may be required.
Overall, no single staff member appears to be interested in taking responsibility or ownership of the
project. Martinas is leaving it in the hands of Lambert and Thomas. Lambert expects Thomas to get
the software side working, and Thomas is claiming that his people already have too much to do.
Conclusions
Pat Lambert and Kelly Thomas are at an emotional standstill. Lambert has alienated Thomas and thus
will find it difficult to encourage him to motivate his staff. This has been caused in part by Lambert s
unrealistic expectations of the design team. The issue was further intensified when Lambert
approached a member of Thomas team without his knowledge.
This falling out between two key team members is evidenced by

Compare and Contrast: The Great Gatsby Of Mice and Men
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. (Fitzgerald, 180). In the
book The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald covers the American dream from someone who lives it
during the roaring twenties. The book was about a man named, Nick, who lived in the West Egg in
New York next to Jay Gatsby, a newly wealthy man. Then ten years later in the book, Of Mice and
Men, John Steinbeck covers the American dream during the height of the Great Depression. This book
is about two men, George and Lennie, who are trying to achieve their dream by working at a ranch.

coming true. (Steinbeck, 66) This dream that George kept telling Lennie was what it was, a dream.
This is what kept George and Lennie working and together, the hope that one day they could actually
get the house and animals they desired. While working at the ranch they met a man named Candy, an
old man who had lost his hand while on the ranch. One of the other really important symbols in Of
Mice and Men was Candy s dog. Well hell! I had him so long. Had him since he was a pup. I herded
sheep with him. He said proudly, You wouldn t think it to look at him now, but he was the best damn
sheep dog I ever seen. (Steinbeck, 49) This was an old dog who was too old to do any work and he
was in pain all the time. This symbolizes the past, and how fast something can change. The roaring
twenties was a period of great change represented in the book The Great

American Bison Research Paper
American bison (Bison bison) have lived for thousands of years, but are now going extinct due to
buffalo hunting. Bisons live in America, and their habitats are mostly river valleys, prairies and grassy
plains. Bisons are Herbivores, their diets consisting mainly of grasses, weeds, and other leafy plants.
Their predators are gray wolves, cougars, and bears. There is one kind of species of American bison,
but American bison ancestors can be traced to Southern Asia thousands of years ago. Also, the history
of bison and Native Americans are intertwined. Female bison breed when they are two years old, and
give birth to their first calves when they are three years old. Cows can be 20 25 years old, giving birth
to a calf each year under the right conditions. The average gestation period of a bison is 283 days. A
baby bison is called a red dog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

helped revive bison populations around the country. Yellowstone National Park is the only place in the
United States where bison have continuously lived since prehistoric times. Interior conservation has
been the primary national conservation steward of the bison. The buffalo and the bison are the same
kind of animal, but a different species. The American bison are native to North and South America and
Europe, while the other two buffalo species reside in Africa and Asia.
Bison are the largest animal in North America, adults weighing an average of 1,400 lbs. Don t take
bison for granted. They may be huge, but they are incredibly fast for their size. They can also live to
be 20 years old, if under good conditions. Bisons wallow in the dirt to help get rid of any irritating

Text Neck Speech
How many hours do you spend using your smartphone per day? Are you concerned about how
smartphone usage may be damaging your health and posture? Are you suffering from neck or back
pain? Were you aware that smartphone usage creates as much as 27 kg of force on your neck? Will
you be changing your habits to address this? Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman, I am Zane. In the
next few minutes, I am going to talk about text neck, a repetitive strain injury (RSI). To start, we will
look at the causes of text neck. Then, we will turn to the effects of text neck. After which, I will share
some ways on how to prevent suffering from text neck and finally, I will summarize my presentation.
First of all, let s look at what causes text neck. When you peer down on your phone for extensive
period, the natural curvature of your neck changes and this puts a lot of pressure on our neck s
vertebrae and disc. On average, our head weighs about 4kg. But for every inch we drop our head
forward, the load is doubled. And as you hunch even further at 60 degree with your chin to your chest,
the weight increase seven fold at around 27kg. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Biological Theory And Gender Essay
This has been a very interesting class and while reviewing for this paper, I realized I will take away
more than I originally though in the way of instruction and understanding. When I first started, I
assumed gender communication was how male and females communicate. While I still hold to some
of my original theory s regarding gender, many of my views have changed. Additionally, this study as
made me aware of what a complicated issue gender is going way beyond the male female sex.
In our reading, Wood states (2009) We are born male or female (sex), but we learn to act in masculine
and/or feminine ways (gender) (Woods, p. 23). We examined three theoretical approaches to Gender in
an effort to understand why we act feminine or masculine. These theories not only provide
information, but influence our thoughts and behaviors towards others (Woods, p. 39). The Biological
Theory maintains biological characteristics are the bases of gender differences a sub group within this
is Sociobiology or the evolutionary theory whose focus is on reproduction to ensure survival. (Woods,
p. 40,41). Interpersonal theories include the psychodynamic theory stating it is the first relationship
that establishes gender identity, Psychological theory focusing on communication as the key to gender
identity, Social learning theory states we learn how to act masculine and feminine from the responses
of those around us, with the Cognitive Development theory focuses on gender consistency and that

Peter Pan Quotes
J.M. Barrie s novel Peter Pan tells the story of Peter Pan, the boy who would not grow up, and his
adventures in Neverland with Wendy, Michael and John Darling. Barrie s portrayal of Peter Pan
suggests several ideas about childhood. According to Barrie, children have flaws and their creative
imaginations recompense for their imperfection, another idea that is mostly highlighted in the
beginning and end of the book, is that no matter how much you don t want to, growing up is
inevitable. Throughout the book you get the sense that children are lighthearted and nonsensical. For
example, is when Wendy wakes up to Peter s sobs because he couldn t stick his shadow back on, How

too far and without thinking of the consequences. Children can be imprudent, rash, and carefree, as in
trying to stick a shadow on with soap. J.M. Barrie highlights the fact that children have strong,
fantastic imaginations. As the narrator is describing the house under the ground, where Peter, the Lost

Riders Of The Purple Sage Good Vs Evil
Samantha Hoppe The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Good versus evil, the primary plot to numerous literary genres, is concretely displayed in every
Western text. Whether it is cowboys versus Indians, the law versus outlaws, or cattlemen versus cattle
rustlers, the audience always sides with one side, and it is always the side of good . The Western genre
is carefully crafted to influence the audience in siding with a certain character. Authors and directors
develop distinct yet similar characters to show the relationship between good and evil.
In general, the good guys consist of the hero, generally a cowboy, and his love interest. The hero is

exercise violence in a way that even Lassiter never would, violence that targets the objects Jane loves.
They broke the laws of the West by not being honest or respectful to their enemy. As a result of Tull

The Business Model Of Uber And Dropbox
Around the world, people are chanting. Shame on Uber! Stop the evictions, stop the greed! They are
making signs. Homelessness: Love, Airbnb. They are organizing strikes in New York City. They are
storming headquarters in San Francisco. They are blocking roads in France. Uber drivers are
protesting Uber s sudden fare cuts. Community organizations are protesting Airbnb s opposition to
housing affordability bills. Taxi drivers are protesting Uber s opposition to comparable taxi regulation.
Their outrages differ but boil down to the same grievance these multibillion dollar companies are

What is the Sharing Economy?
An Emerging Business Model Uber, an application that connects ride hailing users with drivers, and
Airbnb, an online lodging platform that derives its name from bed and breakfasts, have practically
become synonymous with collaborative consumption. Companies compete to become the next Uber of
an industry. There is an Uber of flowers that delivers bouquets, an Uber of lawn care that encourages
lawnmower sharing, and even an Uber of medical marijuana (Entis, 2014). The analogy is precarious

Fossil Fuels Are A Non Renewable Source Of Energy
86% of the energy the USA uses comes from fossil fuels like petroleum and coal that provide
electricity and gas to power our growing energy needs. Fossil fuels are a non renewable source of
energy, meaning that we will eventually run out one day in the near future. When we drive our cars to
work, taking long showers, and leaving the lights on, we usually don t realize how much of our
resources we are using. Fossil Fuels, Power Plants and Fracking cause many of our environmental
problems that the world faces today due to our growing dependence on energy. These environmental
problems include global warming, air quality deterioration, oil spills, and acid rain. Saving and
producing energy from a renewable resource such as sunlight not only helps to conserve our limited
resources but also translates into happiness, safety for our environment, boundless energy, and a
personal benefit, such as financial savings. During the 18th century, massive quantities of fossil fuels
were used to power the economy let alone the world. MHI states that During the Industrial
Revolution, fossil fuels seemed to be the ideal energy source because of its seemingly endless supply.
Many machines during the Industrial Revolution such as the Steam locomotives, used coal as a form
of energy which would fuel the machine early on to balance the lack of firewood and charcoal. In this
article about fossil fuels, it states that we continued to use coal because there was a seemingly endless
supply of coal

Jay Gatsby Influences
The Great Gatsby is generally regarded as a story of love and tragedy, but in actuality, it was a story of
a sad man chasing a baseless obsession with a woman and in trying to obtain this relationship,
succumbing to immoral practices and ultimately dying alone. The author of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott
Fitzgerald, is a widely acclaimed author who had a life of tragedy and loss that greatly impacted his
writing. He was able to see not only the light hearted, celebratory, and successful side of the American
Dream, but also the negative effects of overindulging with alcohol and incessant partying. He was able
to indirectly write about himself and his losses in the stories he wrote. Unfortunately, he was not able
to see how successful he had become. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of his decisions are based on his need to feel superior and his interminable chase after the idea of
Daisy that he has created. Part of the genius of the novel that Fitzgerald included was the two
dimensionality of the characters. Almost all of the characters lacked a human aspect of their
characterization. Fitzgerald wrote them this way on purpose. He wrote the characters of The Great
Gatsby the way that he saw people around him in his everyday life: shallow and vapid. Instead of
filling the novel with well rounded characters, he filled it with characters who at best made
questionable decisions, even with good intentions in mind. His decision in doing this is extremely
important to the themes portrayed in the novel. The Great Gatsby brought a lot of the social issues that
were going on in the 20 s into the light, and in a brilliant way. Writing Jay Gatsby as a static character
was an integral part of the themes that Fitzgerald hoped to depict with the The Great Gatsby, and an
extremely effective way to expose the general public of the 20s for whom Fitzgerald truly saw

Analysis Of Open By Andre Agassi
Many youngsters can have a hard time understanding parents and other people who belong to elder
generations and the other way around. This can have something to do with the time we are born in and
our mentality along with our way of thinking. This may be the topic in the extract from Andre Agassi s
autobiography Open from 2009, where it focuses on the relationships between the generations. But
why exactly are the characters from the different generations having such a hard time understanding
each other? And why has Andre written this text? When analysing the text s style of writing, it is
interesting to look at the structure of it. The text has a very common structure that implies a by line

Comparing and Contrasting Shelley s Frankenstein with Brook s Young Frankenstein
The 1818 book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and the 1972 movie Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks
both portray the differences in feminism regarding the cultural times through the character of
Elizabeth. When Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein, she was on a mission to pursue equal
rights in education for her daughter. In Shelley s time, the only way to show feminine empowerment
was to be literate and well poised, which readers can see in certain passages featuring Elizabeth in
Shelley s book. In the 1970 s, when the movie Young Frankenstein was made, female empowerment
was emphasized with a movement called lipstick feminism , which encouraged women to ... Show

By Elizabeth being so engrossed in keeping a good appearance and not even hug or kiss her husband
goodbye, she demonstrates that she is more important than any man, even her lover. Also in this scene,
her voice is noticeably louder than Frankenstein s as she proclaims her love for him, hinting that
because he is so captivated by her beauty, she has the upper hand, a common trait sought to be
depicted by many women in the 70 s. Just like in the novel, Elizabeth takes a backseat during most of
the plot but obviously misses her soon to be husband, just as the novel Elizabeth did. Contrastingly,
the film s Elizabeth is able to make a trip to Europe to see Frankenstein and to be with him. However,
when she arrives, she is seduced by the monster. This act demonstrates Elizabeth s free will and
unwillingness to hold back her feelings due to a societal norm that she must stay with the man who
she has been engaged to, as it is her personal choice to be with the Creature. As the audience
discovers, Elizabeth is truly only attracted to and falls in love with the Creature because he is
physically well endowed and attractive. Lipstick Feminism shows that outward sexuality empowers
women, which is probably what was demonstrated with the love story between Elizabeth and the
Creature. Elizabeth and the Creature end up marrying, again portraying her free will and ability to
break away from cultural standards with

Dante s Inferno And The Balance Of Power Essay
In Dante s Inferno, Dante (the poet) targets the balance of power between the papacy and empire. The
imbalance between the two is at fault of the papacy, according to Dante, which is understood to be due
to the great refusal. With the great refusal, the papacy was able to fulfill its greed for power which
ultimately resulted in Dante s exile. However, unlike other poets and other influential individuals of
his time, specifically Thomas Aquinas, Dante took the next step to show how all these sins came
together to contribute to social disorder. Dante s divine comedy infiltrates the corruption in the church
and its contribution to the political instability in Florence and even all of Italy (which was not unified)
at the time. Dante explores the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The political turmoil became further drawn out between opposition for the empire to have power or
whether the power should be held by the papacy. According to Dante and Thomas Aquinas, a
philosopher and Franciscan during Dante s time, they both agree that the church s role did not require
the amount of power they were trying to acquire. However, a lot of that changed when Pope Celestine
V abandoned his duties of the papacy which gave rise to Dante s biggest enemy, Pope Boniface VIII.
Unlike Aquinas, for Dante the biggest things were the effect on the community and the infiltration of
trust which most of his characters in the Inferno are guilty of. However the infiltration within the
church is much too widespread and personally affected Dante; in turn in his poem he has placed them
in different levels of hell to make them wish they can repent what they did on earth, as the inferno is a

The Lines By Jodi Picoult And Samantha Vanleer
For this portion of my summer assignment, I read Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha
VanLeer. I have selected twelve important and meaningful passages from the novel as well as a Quote
of the Book . Between the Lines is about a girl, Delilah, and a book character, Oliver, that despite the
limits of the story, connect and can even speak to one another. Oliver had never felt as if he d
belonged in his book and dreaded living the same plot over and over every single time someone
opened his book. So, he asked Delilah to help him get to her world and leave the book. After many
failed attempts, Delilah, with the help of a boy named Edgar, is able to get Oliver out of the book, but
only because Edgar willingly switches places with Oliver. Finally, the passages I have selected are
ones that are important, if not necessary to the book, and it was difficult to only select thirteen total.
My first selected passage is from pages nineteen and twenty. I did not write the lines I speak; they
were given to me long before I remember. I mouth the words, but the actual sound is in the Reader s
mind, not coming from my throat. Similarly, all the moves that we make as if we re performing a play
somehow unravel across someone else s imagination. It is as if the action and sound on our tiny,
remote stage are being broadcast in the thoughts of the Reader. I m not sure that I ever really learned

Jury System
The Jury System
CLU 3M1
By: Khalil Meghji
The jury system has been used for thousands of years to fairly determine innocence or guilt in a trial.
Although not utilized as much as in the past it is still used for most criminal and some civil cases. This
leads to an unjust legal system full of bias. The jury system was first seen in use by the ancient Greeks
thousands of years ago[1]. Though the system was the fairest way to produce a verdict, it cannot apply
today because society has endured a change which taints the foundation of a fair trial by jury. Juries

This can alter the impact of evidence or testimony and the juror cannot make an informed decision.
The jury is not familiar with the law which can lead to confusion about different legal terms, what
evidence is considered circumstantial and how to exclude that from their decision after seeing it in
court. A jury comprised of the general public are also much more open to being influenced by how a
lawyer presents their case and not by evidence. Since the jury does not have any knowledge of
forensics they can be influenced by expert witnesses put on the stand by both the defense and the
prosecution which are completely contradictory.
The jury system has been used for thousands of years however, there are more logical and economical
methods to judge innocence or guilt fairly. While the jury system is not only taxing on the government
s resources it is also very difficult for the juror s. A juror in Canada is not compensated for trials under
10 days, if a trial runs from 11 49 days they get forty dollars a day, after 49 days the juror s receive
one hundred dollars per day[6]. To put a working citizen in the position of losing up to ten days pay to
serve in jury duty is very difficult. Being put into jury duty potentially carries other costs such as
childcare and transportation which is not covered by the government.
The jury system has been in use for thousands of years and has produced many fair verdicts. This

Radiology is the branch of medicine that uses radiation to diagnose and treat diseases. Radiologists

Past literature define cirrhosis as a non reversible end result of liver disease, however recent studies
have shown it s a dynamic process. If K.D stops his alcohol intake, he will reduce the acetaldehyde
and acetate in his body which is the main causes of cell and tissue damage. The mechanism of tissue
reversal takes place by blocking the formation of excessive acetaldehyde in the mitochondria. In the
absence of excessive alcohol in the cells, only the primary alcohol oxidative metabolic pathway takes
place. Alcohol is metabolized to acetaldehyde by the cytosolic enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH).
Due to the ADH s high affinity and low capacity, saturation occurs very quickly. If the patient

Wickham as well as Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. However the seriousness of the situation in itself, the
relationship between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet is furthermore developed because of these two
letters. Elizabeth turns to Mr. Darcy as soon as he appears and immediately notifies him of everything.
This action of hers illustrates the budding closeness between the two and how she relies on Darcy.
Both Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy blame themselves for not exposing Mr. Wickham as the vagrant that he
truly is. Therefore, this shared guilt provides the nascent couple with a strong emotional connection
and a universal principle. A major factor of a couple s relationship is how they react in times of
distress. Do they turn to each other for support or withdraw from one another? Elizabeth s reliance on
Mr. Darcy is a foreshadowing of a wonderful relationship to come for the couple. The two letters
alone are a catalyst in exposing these emotions that might otherwise be suppressed. The two letters
will generally contribute to furthering the development of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy s relationship.
Perhaps the reasoning behind Lydia s actions could be her family and their attitudes toward certain
subjects such as men, romance, and marriage. Mrs. Bennet is consistently pressuring her daughters to
become married women in order to ensure social status and financial security for the remainder of
their lives. It seems that her only goal in life is

Cultural Differences Between Hofstede s Six Dimensions
Cultural Differences in Hofstede s Six Dimensions
In a global economy, the way employees interact within the workplace is critical to the way that
business is conducted and is ultimately successful. Leaders and managers who interact within the
global setting need to understand differences between each person s culture, regardless of whether or
not the interaction is amongst employees or clients. These differences can include mannerisms or
methods of etiquette that may seem strange or unique to those from a different cultural setting. Other
differences might include the way that organizations in different nations may or may not be willing to
do business or work with other groups based on race, gender, ethnicity, sex, or religion. With a utility
such as Geert Hofstede s Six Dimensions, one can gain insight into the differences between countries
the world over regarding these cultural differences (Hofstede).
Hofstede s Six Dimensions Geert Hofstede is a famous social scientist that was born in Haarlem,
Netherlands in 1928 (Hofstede, 2015). He has over 240 major publications addressing the different
dimensions related to leadership and management within the context of diverse national cultures

infrastructure of other nations outside of their own. The six dimensions that Hofstede uses to analyze
these differences are known as; power distance, individualism, masculinity,

Visual Attention Paper
Vision is the most important sensory compared to other sensory modality therefore there is a wide
range of research carried out on vision. Visual attention is defined as a term that portrays how
individuals are able to change their view while attending to an image that is of a normal perspective
due to the neurones in the cortex (Carasco, 2011). It is often described as a focal point which is
situated with different locations in the region of space (Wright, 1998). Visual search requires detecting
a specific target as quickly as possible. For example, trying to find your car in a large car park. By

consuming (Gelade et al., 1980). The hypothesis of the present study predicts that the participants will
react quicker to the simple feature condition compared to the conjunction feature condition when

According to the Oxford Dictionary a leader is someone who commands a group, organization or

those around him? Did Steve Jobs or Bill Gates change the world of technology. by ordering people
around? No one change the world for the better through absolute power, rather, these people changed
the world by inspiring everyone around them. From my personal experience, and when we examine
history, a successful leader does not lead using fear or commands, but with compassion by inspiring
those around them. Throughout history, some of the most successful leaders have been those who

The Pros And Cons Of Hong Kong Schooling
Hong Kong schooling can be seen as an elitist or as a pyramidal school system. As formal schooling
begins, many (if not all) parents will make every effort to help their child gain admission to
prestigious primary schools such as La Salle. At Year 6, students strive for higher banding allocation
so as to be assigned to better secondary schools. In sixth form, students fight for the best exam scores
possible, as the students with the best exam scores are offered places of first degree courses at the
eight government funded institutions. Even then, intense competition has occurred amongst this group
of high achievers for admission to the more preferred institutions or courses. For example, the
University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have been the
most preferred among the eight for many years. This scenario is exceptionally consistent with

saying that it could be a relationship, but there is not a clear answer to what the indirect meaning is.

The length of this poem is 3 stanzas long with 11 lines per stanza. The rhyme scheme is

senses the most. The first would be Hedge crickets sing; and now with treble soft. , this appeals to my

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness , this makes me feel the mist of air you feel during this time

The first and most obvious device would be personification. Odes are when the author talks to an
inanimate object, but doesn t necessarily mean they personify them. Keats does that many times in this
poem, but the first one is exemplified in this quote Close bosom friend of the maturing sun; conspiring
with him how to load and bless . This makes me picture the sun sitting there whispering to the sun as
if they are little girls in a school yard! Another device used in the poem would be alliteration,
examples of this are winnowing wind and oozing hours . The last device I found was not one that I
think I have ever heard. This one is apostrophe, apostrophe is when the poet addresses another party in
the poem. An example of this is who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store? .

William Shakespeare s Beowulf Essay
Tuttle 1
Beowulf Unfit to be King of the Geats For 1000 years we have been reading of the adventures of
Beowulf, and his story was told for hundreds of years before. The tale is full of trials, tribulations,
adventure, great loss, great victory, and wonderful battles. But, what do we make of it? Is it a tale told
to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to warn the readers of the
dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of leadership and the
inevitable results of such an event?
The author of Beowulf takes great care to describe the hero in detail, and we, as readers, learn about
his abundant courage and strength. We are taken on a tour through his early struggles, his successes
against the great monster Grendel and Grendel s mother, and his ultimate demise during his battle with
a dragon. But one needs to analyze the unstated theme in order to fully appreciate the effect that
Beowulf has had on readers for generations. Stanley Greenfield, in his article Beowulf and Epic
Tragedy writes that, in the end, For all of Beowulf s efforts, he is reaped only with useless gold, for a
nation soon to perish (104). This is representative of the core issue at hand in this epic. Beowulf is
unfit to be a great king, despite his physical prowess. Because of his early and continuing history of
foolishly taking unnecessary risks, his excessive pride and lack of humility, the diminishing quality of

where the liquid rocket engine pumps some of the stored fuel and oxidizer into a combustion chamber,
where they are burned, producing a huge amount of very, very hot and pressurized gas. This process
causes the whole spaceship to start shaking and rumbling, signifying in my mind that the mission was

could feel the vibrations more and more throughout your body, and at T minus zero seconds, the hot
gas that was built up is passed through an exit nozzle and expelled out of the spaceship, accelerating
the gas, and generating an enormous amount of thrust.

Should Same Sex Couples Be Allowed to Adopt With the battle of same sex marriage still continuing,
it has yet aroused another subject similar to the matter: should same sex couple be allowed to adopt.
Throughout the 21th century, this topic has been controversially debated whether or not same sex
couples adopting is a negative or beneficial right. With this being said, homosexual couples should be
allowed to adopt because kids with homosexual parents are more open minded, shown the same love

Holistic Philosophy Of Education
Over the last several decades the number of education initiatives that describe themselves as holistic
has drastically expanded as the parents, students, and educators have expressed the feeling that a
different option for mainstream education is required. Holistic education is a philosophy of education
based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections
to the community, to the natural world, and to humanitarian values such as compassion and peace.
Holistic education addresses the broadest advancement of the individual at the cognitive and affective
levels. Holistic education concentrates on the relationship between the entire and the part and proposes
that teaching and learning approaches should be established in a bigger vision. Within this holistic
perspective, the student is situated as a dynamic, participatory and critical learner who sees and
comprehends him. The holistic vision incorporates a feeling of the individual who is associated with
his or her encompassing setting and environment (J, Miller 2004). Holistic education is an adventure
for both the teacher and the student.

educators recognize that students do not simply learn through their intellects, but through their
feelings and concerns, their imaginations and their bodies. Neves (2015) also agreed that in planning

The Effectiveness of Deep-Breathing Exercises After...
The purpose of this evidence based nursing practice paper is to discuss the effectiveness of deep
breathing exercises in the care of a patient who is recently postoperative a coronary artery bypass graft
surgery (CABG). It will also critique two professional research studies on this topic, and will answer
three essential questions about each study. What are the results of the study? Are the results of the
study valid? How are the findings clinically relevant to this patient? The patient, who will be referred
to as Mr. Doe throughout this paper, is a 58 year old male with coronary artery disease. His medical
history includes angina, shortness of breath, diabetes type II, as well as hypercholesterolemia. He was
scheduled for a CABG ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two studies that will be critiqued are over the effectiveness of deep breathing exercises in
reducing postoperative pulmonary complications after CABG surgery. Study #1 showed that patients
performing deep breathing exercises after CABG surgery had significantly smaller atelectatic areas
and better pulmonary function on the fourth postoperative day compared to a control group
performing no exercises, (Westerdahl, Lindmark, Eriksson, Friberg, Hedenstierna, Tenling, 2005). .
This study began with 115 patients that were all undergoing CABG surgery at a university hospital
and were randomized to a deep breathing group that performed deep breathing exercises
postoperatively and to a control group that performed no breathing exercises, (Westerdahl, Lindmark,
Eriksson, Friberg, Hedenstierna, Tenling, 2005). Of the 115 patients in study #1, 23 were excluded for
various reasons, leaving a total of 90 patients participating. This study was a well controlled
randomized controlled trial conducted at one site with fewer than 100 patients, and according to this
information, the study is valid, and the use of deep breathing exercises in reducing pulmonary
complications postoperatively is likely to be effective. According to this study, Mr. Doe would benefit
from performing deep breathing exercises because he is a postoperative CABG patient, and the study
showed that performing these improved pulmonary

Gainsborough, A Story of a Painter and an Era Essay
Gainsborough, A Story of a Painter and an Era
To be able to appraise the originality of eighteenth century English art, one must recognize its
importance in history. A great painter to research is Thomas Gainsborough. His artwork was an
important aspect of the art community of the middle seventeen hundreds. His paintings seem to bring
brightness and color to a period in art that needed his creative boost. His combination of portrait
paintings along with beautiful landscapes was not recognized in his time, but would be recognized as
remarkable later in history.
Thomas Gainsborough was born in 1727 in the town of Sudbury in Suffolk (Internet 1). He grew up as
the son of a woodworking father and his mother was a teacher. He had 7 ... Show more content on

This did not interest Gainsborough; he enjoyed being able to paint subjects outdoors (Internet 4). He
was fond of drawing trees grass and other objects that would not be found in an indoor studio. He was
not the first to draw backgrounds in his paintings; many have done this before him. His task was to
paint a background that was just as important as the subjects do but not distract either. By painting
outdoors, his paintings became much more colorful that most paintings of the past (Woodall 32).
Brighter paintings were much improvement over the paintings of the past. They were very eye
appealing and much more noticeable. Gainsborough s untrained painter s eye did not effect the
outcome of his paintings; he was painting from his heart. He painted whatever his eyes saw; in most
cases the outcome of his paintings were a perfect mix of background and foreground. People began to
start noticing his artwork even though he did not have a degree or formal education in art; this was
very promising to the young painter. His work slowly moved up into the great artwork of the city. His
name was becoming known all around. He can begin his career with the bright colors he added to the
scenery of the painting.
One superb example of where the colors and scenery effected a painting is in the painting Mr. and
Mrs. Andrews. In my first examination of the painting, many questions were brought up. One question

  • 5. The Constitution And The United States The Constitution was written with one principal issue in mind: factions. This central point of tension within any government has remained a founding principle in the United States, and a strong national government is the answer to this issue. By creating a representative and balanced national core the country is given the best chances to avoid tyranny. While these ideals have worked well in the United States, the Constitution has fallen short of its original goals. Control of the US is now placed in a two party system, and too often in corporate control, both factions inadequately checked by the current system. Madison postulates that a larger national government will more effectively prevent tyranny for two reasons. He states first that representatives must be raised to a certain number, in order to guard against the cabals of a few . With only a limited number of representatives, the ability for a faction to take control is greater. Increased diversity with in the deciding body is necessary to protect against these dangers. He also states that a larger pool of voters can prevent unethical swaying of elections, and therefore prevent tyranny. Another view presented in The Federalist Papers was the necessity of a cumbersome government. An expedient government is one in which laws can be changed quickly, and one in which justice is easily avoided. An example can be taken from the Committee of Public Safety during the French revolution. Here, expediency was great and tyranny the result. The constitution addresses the controlling of faction specifically. The system s aim is to create a cumbersome, checked government that will prevent a faction control. The principle method employed to achieve this end is to divide powers, and to create a system of checks and balances to insure that each power achieves their designated role within the whole of the government. The powers outlined being the legislative, the executive, and the judicial; each piece checking the others. Take, for example, the legislative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Should Pluto Be Considered A Planet Essay Many may urge that Pluto should be considered a planet for it has similar characteristics as the planets of the Solar System; however, others still believe that Pluto should not be considered a planet because of its slight differences and conditions that are not matched. Pluto is recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) as a dwarf planet for it doesn t match the third condition of what defines a planet. IAU proposed three conditions to becoming a planet. The first condition being: (a) is in orbit around the Sun; the second condition being: (b) has sufficient mass for its self gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape; the third condition, in which Pluto has not met the standards to, being:(c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit. The Guardian stated in one of it s articles that Pluto should not have a ban from being a planet due to its small size. IAU, however, has not made any regards on this criticism. Comparing and Contrasting Shelley s Frankenstein with Brook s Young Frankenstein The 1818 book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and the 1972 movie Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks both portray the differences in feminism regarding the cultural times through the character of Elizabeth. When Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein, she was on a mission to pursue equal rights in education for her daughter. In Shelley s time, the only way to show feminine empowerment was to be literate and well poised, which readers can see in certain passages featuring Elizabeth in Shelley s book. In the 1970 s, when the movie Young Frankenstein was made, female empowerment was emphasized with a movement called lipstick feminism , which encouraged women to ... By Elizabeth being so engrossed in keeping a good appearance and not even hug or kiss her husband goodbye, she demonstrates that she is more important than any man, even her lover. Also in this scene, her voice is noticeably louder than Frankenstein s as she proclaims her love for him, hinting that because he is so captivated by her beauty, she has the upper hand, a common trait sought to be depicted by many women in the 70 s. Just like in the novel, Elizabeth takes a backseat during most of the plot but obviously misses her soon to be husband, just as the novel Elizabeth did. Contrastingly, the film s Elizabeth is able to make a trip to Europe to see Frankenstein and to be with him. However, when she arrives, she is seduced by the monster. This act demonstrates Elizabeth s free will and unwillingness to hold back her feelings due to a societal norm that she must stay with the man who she has been engaged to, as it is her personal choice to be with the Creature. As the audience discovers, Elizabeth is truly only attracted to and falls in love with the Creature because he is physically well endowed and attractive. Lipstick Feminism shows that outward sexuality empowers women, which is probably what was demonstrated with the love story between Elizabeth and the Creature. The imbalance between the two is at fault of the papacy, according to Dante, which is understood to be due to the great refusal. With the great refusal, the papacy was able to fulfill its greed for power which ultimately resulted in Dante s exile. However, unlike other poets and other influential individuals of his time, specifically Thomas Aquinas, Dante took the next step to show how all these sins came together to contribute to social disorder. However, a lot of that changed when Pope Celestine V abandoned his duties of the papacy which gave rise to Dante s biggest enemy, Pope Boniface VIII. Is it a tale told to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to warn the readers of the dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of leadership and the inevitable results of such an event?
