Steel During The Second Industrial Revolution
The second Industrial Revolution was an era that created many inventions off of the first Industrial
Revolution, which included refining techniques to chemicals, electricity, transportation, and
production engineering to name a few. One of the most highly technological innovations of the second
Industrial Revolution, however, was the innovation of steel. Steel was used before the second
Industrial Revolution, but was mainly used to make swords and weapons by blacksmiths. Before the
second Industrial Revolution Henry Bessemer writes in his autobiography, At that date there was no
steel suitable for structural purposes . At the time, anything structural, including railways, buildings,
ships, and bridges were made out of wood and iron because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With the technology advancing, the production of material moved from small shops and homes into
large factories for mass production. This included steel industries that allowed the transfer of

around the cities where more abundant labor was available . Even with the pollution becoming a major
problem during the second Industrial Revolution because of all the manufacturing plants coming into
the city, this era laid the foundation for some of the famous and most popular inventions of today s
time. But still during the era of innovations, many inventions would not have been made possible
without the innovation of steel and the Bessemer process. This would be the reason steel had the most

Internal Analysis Conducting an internal analysis on Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will identify some
strengths within the firm that can be used for competitive advantage. Krispy Kreme can also grow and
expand on these strengths to keep that advantage in far reach of other firms. Krispy Kreme has
produced a very favorable and high quality doughnut with an excellent visual appeal not found
elsewhere. This is in part from great technology that allows quick finishing of cooking of partially
cooked doughnuts. Doughnuts are prepared in advance and cooked to a certain point (Krispy Kreme,
2001). They are kept stored properly and are then finished cooking by the technology of the Hot
Doughnuts Now machine. This process helps prepare for large orders and big rushes, while still giving
the customer quality and freshness. One big attraction of Krispy Kreme is there neon sign displayed at
all stores which signals Hot Now when the doughnuts are fresh out the oven. Customers want
freshness, so Krispy Kreme tells them when that is, without customers having to take chances on
whether they will receive fresh, hot products. The innovation of this technology and idea is a major
strength of Krispy Kreme and has been used for great advantage in the doughnut industry. Along with

Property Tax: A theoretical model
Factor mobility is a key factor for local bodies. Charles Tiebout in his seminal 1956 article put forth a
model where local bodies compete in the provision of public services. He considers a city resident
who wishes to move to the suburbs, a consumer voter , who selects a community that best reflects and
satisfies his preferences for public goods. Given that local governments have set patterns of
expenditure and revenue, the greater the number of local governments, the closer the consumer voter
may find his preferences represented.
Tiebout s model is based on the following assumptions: perfect mobility of consumer voters; their
perfect knowledge of differences between revenue and expenditure patterns and the ability to react to
these differences; many communities to choose from in which to live; no employment restrictions as
all consumer voters live on dividend income and no external economies or diseconomies in the
provision of public goods between communities. Additionally, he also defines an optimum level of
community services i.e. the number of residents for whom the bundle of services can be produced at
the lowest average cost. The relevance of this assumption

Is Mormonism Really A Cult
Mormonism Is it really a cult?
Many people see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as LDS or Mormonism,
as a cult. But are they really a cult? Again others see them as a valid denomination of Christianity.
Which of these is more correct?
A great deal of people consider Mormonism to be a cult. They think that they have strange customs,
such as not eating fruit. It is true that Mormonism is different in many ways from most Christianity,
but does that really make it a cult? To quote the textbook: A cult represents a distinct break from other
traditions . So by that definition, all religion is cultist in nature. One major difference between
Mormonism and most Christianity is Baptism of the Dead. Mormons believe that

Slaying the Dragon Essay
Slaying the Dragon: How Asian Women were Portrayed in Movies
Slaying the Dragon by Deborah Gee is a comprehensive look at media stereotypes of Asian and Asian
American women since the silent era. From the racist use of white actors to portray Asians in early
Hollywood films, through the success of Anna May Wong s sinister dragon lady, to Suzie Wong and
the 50s geisha girls, to the Asian American anchorwoman of today. The movie also shows how
stereotypes of exoticism and docility have affected the perception of Asian American women.
In many movies Asian women are sexually stereotyped as exotic, subservient, compliant, industrious,
and eager to please. If not that, Japanese women are shown to be inherently scheming, untrustworthy,

In the movie three Asian American women tell their story bout their lives in China and American life.
Nowhere in the movie are Asian American women presented as sexually subservient, but it presents
realistically the lives of these Asian women.
Historically in western drama, Asian women have been portrayed in a highly negative light. The Asian
women in films like Sayonara and The San Pebbles and musicals like Miss Saigon are seen as people
who are submissive and silent. A young American soldier is often involved in these plots, as most of
these plots are war dramas. The Asian girl falls in love with the American because she sees him as a
savior who will take her back home with him so she can fulfill what she thinks is the American Dream
, meaning that she can go from rags to riches. On the contrary, the American falls in love with the
Asian girl because he feels preference for submissiveness, which he finds more feminine and
attractive. As well, the American is embodied with the Christopher Columbus Syndrome , and feels
that he has to dominate her. This passive eastern femininity in relation to western male dominance is
portrayed in these dramas.
Because of this portrayal of Asian women, many Asian women feel that they are being approached by
men in a bad way. The submissiveness and weakness of these characters have angered many. Western
dramas have portrayed Asian women as submissive and

Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework And Process Essay
Enterprise Wide Risk Management In order to effectively treat risk, firms must first apply a risk
management framework and process. The enterprise wide risk management process provides a broad
approach to address and manage all of an organizations risk. Furthermore, this technique is comprised
of four components, lead and establish accountability, align and integrate, allocate resources, and
communicate and report. When implemented together these components are the essential to achieving
an organizations goals. Moreover, five risk management steps reinforce the enterprise wide framework
process and begins with scanning the environment, identifying the risks, analyzing the risks, treating
the risk and lastly, monitoring the risks to ensure they are being controlled and eliminated (Elliott,
2012). Banks in particular have a variety of risks which can be addressed using enterprise wide risk
management techniques. For example, ABC Community Bank would be subject to a number of
financial risks, including interest rate risk, liquidity risk, credit risk and price risk. With just 30
employees and one location, the organization is small and the company s ability to absorb financial
risks and survive is improbable. Therefore, the organization must take the necessary steps to address
the company s financial risks to ensure continuous survival and goal achievement.

Hamlet As A Nihilism
William Shakespeare s Hamlet portrays as multitude of ideas, meanings and interpretations. In this
essay, I will focus on analyzing Hamlet through the post modern existential lens of nihilism. Nihilism
has five main types; political, moral, epistemological, cosmic, and existential. Throughout the course
of the play, Hamlet shows many characteristics that showcase these principles , such as apathy and
despair. Hamlet is a nihilist character because through his actions of mania and despair he shows that
life is overall meaningless. He also has a lack of respect for authority and a rejection of moral
principles. Throughout the play, Hamlet shows a general disdain of authority figures In his perspective
they, mainly Claudius, do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet s wants and desires are completely out of joint with the atmosphere of Elsinore (Bloom).
Hamlet s desires do not follow the status quo of the rest of the people in the caste, or even that of his
time. This is because Hamlet has rejected typical principles and made his own. Moral nihilists refer to
ethical values as nothing more than what each individual gives bias or favor to (Carr). Hamlet s soul is
an empty vase that gives place to nothing (Cutrofello). Following his father s death, Hamlet feels life
has little meaning, he feels hopeless and believes there is no longer any thing good or worth living for
in life. As he describes in Act 1, How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this
world... Tis an unweeded garden... (1:1, lines 136 139). In this line, Hamlet is explaining that
comparing life after his father s death to a garden that is overgrown and dead; unweeded, flat and
stale. The last and deepest source only reveals itself at the point in which all our foundations have
been destroyed (Carr). This quote expresses perfectly what Hamlet is feeling, he lost one of the most
important figures to him, which ultimately caused his madness and insanity later in the play. The
source that was revealed after his foundation, his father, was lost was Hamlet s sense of mortality.
Hamlet s sense of his own mortality can be seen at various points through the play, for example,
Hamlet expresses suicidal tendencies in a famous

Essay on Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho
Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho
In the ancient text The Descent of Innana and the lyric poetry of Sappho, language is viewed as magic.
Not only are the words themselves acting as magic, as in an invocation, but other things manifest
themselves as magic throughout the works. The most common throughout the works of Sappho is that
of love. Sappho also shows us the magic of everyday life in many of her poems. Finally, the writing
down of the works performs a magic all of its own; the magic of continuation. Through the writing of
their works the story of Innana and the poetry of Sappho will live on forever. The most obvious use of
language as magic is in The Descent of Innana. This text is actually all ... Show more content on

In the poem You know the place: then , Sappho invokes the Goddess Aphrodite. She does this by
calling out to the goddess and naming the place she wishes for Aphrodite to appear. Leave Crete and
come to us / waiting where the grove is / pleasantest, by precincts / sacred to you; incense / smokes on
the altar... ( lines 2 6). This shows how words were believed to hold the power to persuade a god or
goddess. The hope was that, if the offering of poetry was beautiful enough, then the god would grant
the request of the poet. This is not the only form of magic that words held for the ancient Greeks.
In another poem that Sappho wrote, A Prayer to Aphrodite , Sappho describes anguished love. Sappho
desires nothing more then to have this unrequited love returned to her arms. In this poem the magic of
language calls Aphrodite forth and inspires her to do Sappho a favor. It inspires the goddess to give
Sappho the power to bring this person back to the glittering net of her arms (19). This shows Sappho s
true desire to harness the power of love through the magic of language. If she can only write this poem
beautiful enough then Aphrodite will take pity on her and give her what she most wants.
What s the secret wish of your crazy, wild heart? / Whom must Love compel with Her wily ruses /
back into the glittering net of your arms? / Sappho, who hurts you? (17 20). This is what Sappho
wishes to hear from Aphrodite. The power and beauty

AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY, ZARIA.
ABSTRACT
The main objective of Zakah(Alms giving) is to alleviate poverty in the Muslim community .The
system is specifically designed to take care of the needs of the poor and the needy from the Muslim
Ummah. In this paper, a close look at this vital role of Zakah is made, indicating that the present
economic hardship in the Muslim Ummah could be easily solved through the institution of Zakah. It
was practiced during the time of the Prophet (S.A.W.) and his Companions, and subsequently in the
period of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz. Therefore, the system of Zakah is strongly recommended to be used
for poverty alleviation in Nigerian Muslim communities.

Introduction
Zakah is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims are obliged by the Shari`ah to take a portion of their
wealth and give to the poor as charity. This is called Zakah. It is designed to take care of the basic
economic needs of the poor people and alleviate the problem of poverty in society. Our society today
is pervaded with poverty, hunger and unemployment. The Government has failed in discharging its
responsibilities of providing basic employment for its citizens, many wealthy Muslims have refused to

The Effects Of Cigarette Smoking On The Body And Others
Introduction Cigarette smoking is one of the most common known causes of diseases. It has a negative
effect on the body and others who are around the person smoking, but being able to quit can positively
change a person s health. Nicotine is one of the biggest component in a cigarette, it stimulates the
central nervous system which then gives the smoker a pleasurable feeling. The cigarette s stimulants
make smoking very addictive, which causes smoking cessation challenging for a person. There are
now various amounts of ways to help them gradually stop, and the number of different alternatives
that are readily available can greatly affect the person s habits. One common way to help smoking
cessation is the use of an electronic cigarette. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study by Bullen et al. (2013) and Hann, Mnatzaganian, Rahman, Wilson, and Worall Carter
(2015) states that e cigarettes without nicotine is not as effective for cessation. This is due to the fact
that it does not have the same effect as a regular cigarette, which contains nicotine. In the study
conducted by Bullen et al. (2013), out of the 73 people who were given placebo e cigarettes, only 3
were able to continue their cessation after six months (p.1633). The results of these studies can be due
to the fact that the e cigarette does not contain nicotine and the smoker is not getting the pleasurable
feeling a nicotine gives. The results of the use of e cigarettes with nicotine resulted with a higher
outcome, which will be explained in Alternatives with Nicotine. A device that contradicts the previous
study because evidence shows that it can actually help is a nicotine free inhalator. This only allows the
person to replace the physical gestures that they associate with smoking a regular cigarette, such as
hand to mouth action. By using this technique, Arcidiacono et al. (2011) implemented this in a
smoking cessation program for a six month study, they recruited smokers that exhaled a certain
amount of carbon monoxide. Within the six months, they compared the results of week four to week
twenty four. Week four consisted of 23 out of the 60 to successfully quit and by week

Tay-Sachs Disease
Description Tay Sachs disease, (also known as GM2 gangliosidosis or hexosaminidase A deficiency),
is a fatal autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by insufficient activity of the enzyme beta
hexosaminidase A. It is very rare, found more prevalently among certain populations, like those with
Eastern European, (Ashkenazi Jewish) heritage (Bethesda, 2014), and usually results in death by the
age of four. The purpose of this essay is to illustrate the pathology and inheritance patterns of this
genetic disorder, and provide the molecular base, prognosis, and possible treatments. The specific
enzyme beta hexosaminidase A is responsible for catalyzing the biodegradation of acidic fatty material
in the brain and spinal cord known as gangliosides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Warren Tay, an English physician who first described the symptomatic cherry red eye in 1881
(Edelson, 1997). Research later in the 20th century illustrated that Tay Sachs disease is a genetic
disorder caused by a mutation in the HEXA gene on chromosome 15. Many other HEXA mutations
have been discovered since then, including different mutations within different populations. Being an
autosomal recessive disorder, for an individual to exhibit symptoms it is required to have two Tay
Sachs alleles affected, meaning that when both parents are carriers, the offspring have a 25% of being
affected. This disease has shown to be prevalent in certain populations in recent years. Those of
Ashkenazi Jewish descent are one of these populations, being more prone to the infantile form of Tay
Sachs disease, caused by a base pair insertion leading to the mutation. More research has led us to
believe that compound heterozygosity is ultimately responsible for the disease s variability among
different populations. Those who are heterozygous carriers tend to exhibit abnormal enzyme activity
but never show true disease symptoms. This is due to the dominance phenomenon, and with Tay Sachs
being recessive autosomal, it requires

Latent Print Identification Paper
Though Hershel, Faulds, Galton and others set the stage in methods to indicate fingerprints should
have been used for identification there was still controversy around the science. With the advances of
technology, we now have a better understanding of why fingerprints have only been identified to a
single individual. They are unique and permanent. Embryology finds six weeks in utero formations of
early notching for what will become fingers starts. By week seven, webbing of the finger is almost
gone and volar pads start to form. During week ten through twelve, initial formation of epidermal
ridges begin. Primary ridges begin at the apex of the volar pads, tip of the finger and just above the
first joint. Secondary ridges start to form by week sixteen and stop the formation of primary ridges. By
twenty four weeks ridge formation has completely finished. For over one hundred years friction ridge
impressions have been only known to relate back to only one source thus resulting its broad usage in
law enforcement, banking, government buildings for identification purposes and etc.

How To End Racism In America
Together racism disappears
We Americans should know by now what racism means from the news or from watching how colored
skin people get bullied more than white people. Did you know that in 1870, 4.8 million African
Americans lived in the United States and in 2007, there were 40.7 million African Americans that
lived in the United States. In this essay, I will be explaining the events that happen due to racism and
how we can stop racism. Three actions we can take to end the violence are to stop black churches
getting burned down, making all races equal, and stopping racist comments.
In this paragraph, you will learn about one important event that happened in the south and that has
affected black America . Six black churches were burned down in the south in just a ten day time
period. People think that the group of people burning the churches down is a supremacist group called
the KKK. A supremacist group is a group where white people think that they are better than all of the
other races usually towards black people. Since the six black churches got burned down in the south,
people are starting to think that whoever is targeting the churches are targeting black churchgoers. But
why would white supremacist group(s) be targeting black churchgoers when they could be targeting
black people in the government? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Research Study On Contemporary Organizations
Student s Name: Tutor s Name: Course: Date Introduction Contemporary organizations operate in a
very dynamic global environment and as such have learnt to value diversity in the workplace in order
to sustain a competitive edge. However, embracing diversity alone is not enough to lead to sustainable
success. What are needed are the organizations that want to be on top of the game to ensure an
inclusive workplace environment so that the fruits of diversity can be enjoyed. Diversity refers to
representation of multiple identity groups and their cultures in particular organization or workgroup
while inclusion is creating, fostering and sustaining practices and conditions that encourage and allow
each of us to be fully ourselves with our differences from and similarities to those around us as we
work together (Ferdman, 2013, p. xxii).Ferdman asserts that the goal of inclusion is the psychological
sense that we matter and that our voice and contributions are important. This inclusion begins with
everyone recognizing the fact that we are made up of many components, characteristics and identities
which are intertwined and make us whole. Just like an organism whose parts function differently but

individuals in the workplace. They all come from different ethnic and cultural background, race,

Violent Video Games
Violence in Video Games
Violent video games have been an epidemic for decades. Furthermore, the violence in video games
has increased and has become more realistic. Violent games like Mortal Kombat, Dead Space, Grand
Theft Auto and Call of Duty have become common household games. Boys are more effected by
video games; thus, video games have made males more violent because they include military
techniques, reality based settings, and change people s behaviors.
Knowing the history of violent video games is important in understanding how they have become
more violent. In 1976 Exidy games released the first violent video game, Death Race. In that game the
player would drive a car over stick figures, turning them into gravestones (Douglass). The public was
soon outraged by the video game and, the end result was that Exidy sales doubled or quadrupled (qtd.
in Douglass). People wanted the violence.
Most early video games did not include people to people violence like most games now, they were just
the gateway into the world of violence. The founder of Atari, Nolan Bushnell said, We had an internal
rule that we wouldn t allow violence against people. You could blow up a tank or you could blow up a
flying saucer, but you couldn t blow up people (Douglass). Later companies formed and with them
came better graphics, therefore more gore. Gradually it became clear that games sold better if they
contained more violence, and with that games like Mortal Kombat, with one to one

Advantages of Prapatti over Bhakti:
The chief advantage that Prapatti or Nyāsa Vidyā has over Bhakti Yoga is that it is easier to practise
than the latter. Bhakti Yoga as seen has many obstacles on the path to the goal. The requisite for

Analysis Of Obasan By Joy Kogawa
In Obasan, Joy Kogawa explores a woman s past through conflict, themes of silence and prejudice
presenting her traumatic story in an unthreatening manner suggesting it is possible to heal from
trauma. Obasan is a powerful novel written through the perspective of Naomi Nakane, who is the
protagonist of the novel. The novel s core is based on the memories and experiences of Naomi. The
setting is Western Canada and the novel goes back and forth between 1972 and World War II during
the internment of Japanese Canadians. Kogawa presents Naomi s story in an unthreatening manner as
a way to bring recognition of the horrific events in Canadian past as Karpinski argues that, Obasan
deliberately presents itself as unthreatening ...Constantly facing the risk of provoking a potentially
defensive and hostile reaction among white Canadian readers (54). Obasan centres around the
conflicts of the Japanese Canadian internment and the emotional, physical, and hardships that fell on
the Japanese during and after the war. Kogawa conveys that past events can impact an individual s life
due to the traumatizing memories and cause them to feel conflicted, but it is possible for them to heal
from such trauma. For instance, one of Naomi s earliest traumatic memories was when she was
molested by Old Man Gower, a family friend of hers. When she recalls the vivid images of Old Man
Gower sexually abusing her, she claims that it was unthinkable to be held by [such] force (67 68).

Teaching A Student Centered Environment
Students need to be the priority when it comes to student centered environments. In today s classroom
it is no longer the teacher instilling one way to solve the math problem into the students. It is the
students working cooperatively with the teacher and their classmates to find their own way to solve
the math problem. If they can solve a math problem in a way that is unique to the teacher or their
classmates and still gets the correct answer that is student centered learning. There are many steps that
need to be taken when creating and teaching a student centered environment in the classroom. The
three main steps are the environment of the classroom, teaching in a way that is student centered, and
assessing students. While these might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I mean by that is that in a round table there are going to be some students who are not facing the
same direction. These students should have the same amount of opportunity to view the teaching and
the instruction as any of the other students. The second step for creating a student centered mint is
teaching. In this paper, I am going to be specifically talking about teaching math. It is important that
teaching be done in a way that is relational. This means that the children are answering the questions
their own way and in a way that makes sense to them specifically. In the book teaching students
entered mathematics Walle states that They develop their understanding of mathematics because they
are at the center of explaining, providing evidence or justification, finding or creating examples,
generalizing, analyzing, making predictions, applying concepts, representing ideas in different ways,
and articulating connections or relationships between the given topic and other ideas. (Van de Walle,
Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 6). Method of teaching is very important when teaching
mathematics to children. With facilitative methods, the teacher might use investigations and inquiry,
cooperative learning, discussion, and questions that are more open‐ended. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp,
Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 10). This is important because through cooperative learning the children can

Of Selfishness In Lord Of The FliesAndJulius Ceaser
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative
altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness. In this quote, Martin Luther King, Jr., expresses
how a person has a decision between selflessness and selfishness, and that their decision predicts the
way they live. The choice of walking in, the light of creative altruism, allows a person to live a life
with little harm due to their selfless ways. However, a person s choice of walking in, the darkness of
destructive selfishness, will bring them many struggles and devastations throughout their lifetime.
Therefore, based on the person s actions, they will follow either a path of hardship or ease. Similarly,
in William Golding s, Lord of the Flies, and Shakespeare s, Julius Ceaser, the characters choose
between a selfless or selfish lifestyle. This decision is made through their intentions of killing to help
themselves or to benefit the lives of their group. In both the book, the character, Jack Merridew, and in
the play, the characters, Brutus and Cassius, all choose to kill with the goal of helping their groups.
Although the character s notions are right, there are hidden feelings of jealousy resulting in crimes that
are for their own good.
To further illustrate, in William Shakespeare s, Julius Ceaser, his character, Marcus Brutus, believes
that his choice to kill Ceaser is for the good of Rome. In the play, Cassius convinces Brutus that

Sexualization Of Women In The 21st Century
Will the sexualization of women in advertising campaigns affect the young generation of 21st century
Jaissie Ngan
Digital photography 2015
WRITTEN DISSERTATION
We have become a generation where we rely on certain aspects to help promote an advertisement. This
can range from racism, feminism, sexism, ageism and even possibly religion, homophobia; the list can
go on and on. This may concern very few people or many people; they may find it offensive or
disturbing.
Adverts have been around for hundreds of years, and have since developed hugely as technology has
enabled us to advance even more. Adverts have developed from illustration with text in the early 1700
s to large high definition photograph/illustration on billboard or TV advertisements with high
definition. (Adage, website, 1999) Advertising in the 21st century doesn t just stop at billboards and
TV advertisements. We have now gone onto using every space available to us to advertise, we are
surrounded by adverts, or even advertisements surrounds us. Its endless, everywhere we go, we see
adverts posted on a wall or on websites that we visit.
Shock advertising or the term shockvertising is used to draw the public attention to deliberately make
then stop and think about the advert they are seeing or have seen. This is where the controversy starts.
For shock advertising to work effectively it has to display something that is distressful or disturbing so
that the public will stop to look and think about at the

Theme Of Romanticism In My Antonia
When Jim Burden initially reaches Nebraska, his descriptions of nature help the reader understand not
only his personal experiences, but also the Romanticism prevalent in the book, My Antonia. This sets
the reader up for the struggle and conflict between Modernism and Romanticism in the book, which is
a major theme that Willa Cather utilizes in her novel. However, there is more to this Romantic
description that meets the eye. On pages 12 and 13, Jim describes looking at the land while he travels
to his grandparents, a passage which evokes beauty and hints towards philosophical meaning. Through
this passage in the first chapter, it becomes clear that Jim s narration of the nature around him works to
highlight the idea that the land is a heaven that is untouched. Like young Jim, the land is in a blank
slate, which intertwines the land and Jim together. This is furthered through the progression of the
land and Jim, as they progress into godlike beings. Through this progression and balance, the balance
between Modernism and Romanticism is achieved, and the reader better understands the intentions of
Cather, thus leading to a better understanding of the text as a whole. Jim s view of the land, and his
word choice in describing the land, proves that Nebraska is a symbol for heaven. This heavenly state
is important, as it shows that the land is important and highly placed. Jim explicitly states that, unlike
his hometown, Nebraska was not entirely earthly in presence. He says,

Rape And Its Treatment On Campuses
No means no. That is, until you are on a college campus. Then no probably means yes. It is no secret
that there is a campus rape epidemic that has seemed to sweep the headlines in recent years. The
problem seems new yet goes back perhaps to even the first widespread admittance of women to
college campuses. And still the campus rape problem remains, pushed under rugs and bordering on do
not ask do not tell policies perpetuated by many colleges and universities. Rape and its treatment on
campuses has become such an issue that even popular culture and media is beginning to speak out.
The days of universities coddling the perpetrators needs to come to a close society says so. The media
says so. Even our television shows say so.
The 2015 documentary The Hunting Ground debuted to film festivals revealing to audiences the
issues ingrained in our university system in how they treat rape taking place on their campuses (Dick).
Testimonials of rape victims from across the nation spoke out about their experiences with how their
schools treated their cases from accusations simply being ignored to suspected rapists being
disciplined with expulsions effective only after graduation. Some schools even find fault within the
victims themselves, falling privy to trends of victim blaming and slut shaming. Schools will have a
hundred sexual assault charges on their campus, even more resulting in no action: no suspensions and
no expulsions. So the lenience toward assailants, it has to

What Is The Setting Of The Bluest Eye
In the novel, The Bluest Eye, we learn about the lives of black, middle school aged girls. The novel
takes place in 1941, during a time where racial and prejudice situations are prevalent in the lives of
African Americans. The children experience a childhood full of racialism, great pain, and
subordination,
The children who we come to learn so much about are two sisters, Claudia and Frieda, Pecola, who is
their foster sister now. Claudia gives a brief look into the setting of the story in describing her home as
well. Our house is old, cold, and green . She explains where she lives and how cold the house is and
how it looks. She introduces us to, Mr. Henry a friend of the family that comes to visit them
occasionally. The children sit and hear grown folks talking in the kitchen. They hear how the grown
folks talk about each other bad, there is not much good to usually say. Well, somebody asked him why
he left a nice good churchwoman like Della for that heifer (13). This shows how African Americans
are negative about each other and rarely have any nice encouraging words to say about one another.
Pecola is now in the home due a fire at home by Cholly Breedlove, her father. She has been on a long
journey of great pain and confused about what kind of identity she wants to have. She is now in the
home with Claudia and Frieda since the event has taken place. She has a cup with Shirley Temple

Designing A New Type Of Internal Combustion Engine
Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
The intention of Rudolf Diesel to provide a new type of internal combustion engine operating with
higher efficiency than conventional steam and Otto cycle engines, and that could be operated on many
types of fuels. The engine cycle developed by diesel involves injection of fuel into a volume of air
heated by compression. Over the course of history, the durable and efficient diesel engine has replaced
other less efficient modes of power production, including steam engines in the railroad industry. A
diesel engine or compression ignition (C.I.) engine is an internal combustion engine that uses the heat
of compression to initiate ignition to burn the fuel, which is injected into the combustion chamber.

With any probable petrol crisis, for all the sectors the alternative fuel is vital to be developed. In
addition, pollutants have formed because of combustion of petroleum based fuels in diesel engines.
Pollutants from diesel engines include carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulphur
dioxides (SOx), oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). NOx and PM are the two
primary pollutants of diesel engines. It was stated by Lloyd and Cackete, that Diesel emissions
contribute to the development of cancer; cardiovascular and respiratory health effects; pollution of air,
water, and soil; soiling; reductions in visibility; and global climate change. Research on reducing
emissions resulted from diesel engines and studies on decreased fuel consumption are being founded
worldwide, especially in EU countries. There are many works on reliable researching and
implementations and useful results came to exist. Research and developing alter native diesel engine
fuel is one of the aspects of these studies.
An alternative fuel for internal combustion (IC) engines is considered as a viable option because of the
pollution effect amount of petroleum products available. As an alternative fuel is biodegradable and
renewable fuel, biofuel is the most suited substitute for biodiesel. In developing countries the demand

The Process Of Patient Assessment
DIABETES ASSESSMENT TOOLS The process of patient assessment is an integral part in the
development of education and plans of care. Because diabetes is largely a self managed disease,
education is key to patient success. The process of providing diabetes self management education
(DSME) may be facilitated by a variety of healthcare professionals, including nurses, dietitians,
pharmacists, physicians, mental health professionals, optometrists, podiatrists, and exercise
physiologists. Diabetes is a multifaceted, chronic disease that impacts body systems specific to each of
the disciplines (AADE, 2011). Single and multidisciplinary tools exist to facilitate the process of
effective patient assessment. Examples of these will be explored to identify strengths and
opportunities for improvement.
In an ideal setting DSME is provided by a multidisciplinary team, which allows the patient the
benefits of an array of expertise and perspective (AADE, 2011). While most patients benefit from this
approach, some may be averse to working with multiple team members and a single person on the
team may end up being the primary resource. It should also be noted that, not all patients have access
to a multidisciplinary team due to rural settings or barriers with insurance coverage. In these
situations, patients may receive care from a single healthcare professional that, with proper training
and mentorship from peers in other disciplines, can effectively provide education and support.

What Was The Cause Of The Mexican War
The Mexican War started in 1846 and began after the United States annexed the independent Republic
of Texas. This provoked outrage because at the time Mexico still considered Texas part of its
northeastern province territory, although Texas declared its secession after the 1836 Texas Revolution.
Initially, the United States refused to accept Texas as part of the United States due to the rising
concerns over slavery in the nation at the time. But at the end of President John Tyler s term, he
annexed the state into the U.S. and left Mexico s reaction to the descending president. President James
K. Polk led the United States into Mexico because he, like many others in the nation at the time,
believed in manifest destiny, and wanted to expand the

Terrorism and Airport Security Essay
Terrorism and Airport Security
The morning of September 11 was like any other. The sun rose from the east, and the day was full of
life. People went to work as they were accustomed to, and everybody seemed safe from harms way. In
airports across America: planes were taking their passengers to their destinations in record times.
People went through airport security as usual, walking through the metal detector and sending their
bags through the x ray machines. Security at the airport was normal. Bags were checked for guns and
explosives as they had been doing for many years. This seemingly routine day turned out to be far
from normal. A group of people that belonged to Al Qaeda had different plans for the people of the

word terrorism, as defined by Wikipedia, is an 18th century French word from terrorisme or under
terror. It is a term that is used to calculate the use of violence or the threat of violence against a
civilian population, for the purpose of producing fear usually for some political end. This refers to a
group, but a single terrorist can be labeled as someone who is an active participant in a terrorist act or
in direct funding or logistical support, which includes harboring terrorist groups (Terrorism, 2004).
Over the past few years in Western culture, terrorism can often be defined as a euphemism for
violence by Arabs and even Muslims. This has caused a great hate between the people of America and
those of the Middle East.

Analysis of Eugene O Neill s Long Day’s Journey into Night...
In the early 20th century, America was moving up socially and economically because of the advancing
technology. The standard of living was vastly improving, and people lived a much better condition;
however, women were still trapped in the world of patriarchy during this time period. Patriarchy is a
social system that privileges men by promoting traditional gender roles which casts men as rational,
strong, protective, and decisive while woman as emotional (irrational), weak, nurturing, and
submissive (Tyson 85). Because of such system, women are indoctrinated into the mentality that they
are inferior to men. In the play, Long Day s Journey into Night, Eugene O Neill portrays Mary Tyrone,

The reason that women were subordinate to men was because society believes women are physically
weaker than men; so they are unsuitable for hard outdoor labor or heavy duty work (Clive, Tim and
Robert). Because of such tradition, these women became dependent to their husbands and did not have
the same freedom that the men enjoyed. In the play, Mary is a beautiful woman and lives the life like
any other girls of her time; but she is emotionally attached to her sons and her family when she
marries into the Tyrone family. She is also getting old, so she keeps going on her days worrying about
her change of appearance. She suffers from a morphine addiction and she is psychologically wounded
because of her past. She tries many times to break free but she could not stop as she spends time with
her family. She has gone through many struggles but she cannot move on with her life. She keeps
looking back into the past; and she regrets marrying into the family because of the dreams she had to
sacrifice such as becoming a nun or a concert pianist. At the beginning, Mary was not on morphine
until the death of her second son, Eugene. She is traumatized and she is afraid when she is pregnant
with the third child. That is when morphine is first subscribed to her as a painkiller. The morphine
relieves her from the pains but it also makes herself addict to it. Every time she runs away from a

transition from saturated animal fats to unsaturated vegetable oils. According to the article in the

The modern American diet has generally accepted the theory of cholesterol containing foods

The American Heart Association, today, takes the same stance it took in the 1960s with a recent quote
from their website stating:
Eating foods that contain saturated fats raises the level of cholesterol in your blood. High levels of
blood cholesterol increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Be aware, too, that many foods high
in saturated fats are also high in cholesterol which raises your blood cholesterol even higher. Even

challenged it.

The Structures Within An Animal Cell
The structures within an animal cell are described as follows:
Plasma Membrane or Cell Membrane:
This is a thin membranous layer which surrounds the cell and acts as a barrier, it works to separate the
contents within the cell from its external environment as well as from other cells.
It s structure is important as it provides structural support and protection of components within it as is
is made up of a double membrane layer or phospholipid bilayer. It works likes a gatekeeper of
pathway so allowing certain or selected molecules to pass through and exit the cell, such as water,

The proteins produced are mainly to be used within the cell and the enzyme which are products by

They are found within the cell, either free in the cytoplasm or they can be attached to the Endoplasmic

Endoplasmic reticulum:
This organelle is a network of membranes which are either attached to the nucleus or found
throughout the cytoplasm.
It is a folded membrane which gives the appearance of tubes if interconnected sheets.
These membranes may vary from cell to cell depending of the function and size of particular cells.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum:
This is known as such due to the ribosomes which are attached to the surface of the Endoplasmic
reticulum and gives it the appearance of bumpy looking membranes.
It can also be attached to the nuclear envelope which is found surrounding the nucleus.

face. Ideally, it would be delivered directly to a providers EMR system, so when a patient goes to an
outside lab for blood tests, the results would show up in the electronic record at the doctor s office,
and the doctor would be notified that the results are there. However, with limited EMR use across the
country, HIEs have had to provide alternative delivery methods. HIE is considered to be one of the
key components of the national health IT infrastructure being established by the HITECH Act.
Policymakers and health care providers believe this health IT infrastructure will produce a number of
benefits, many of which are directly related to HIE.
Benefits of HIE
Physicians can help to ease the transition to a patient electronic health record by engaging the patients
in open dialogue that will educate the patient on the benefits of an electronic record and address their
concerns. Physicians can let patients know that their electronic record will enable them to

Artificial lagoons and channels run throughout Redwood Shores, and marshes and wetlands surround
it. The Lagoon at Redwood Shores and the surrounding waterways offer opportunities for sailing,
wind surfing, kayaking, and rowing (NATC, 3). Athletic fields are scattered throughout the area and
are used for soccer, baseball, softball, and other sports (NATC, 3). Tennis courts are present in
residential areas, and surrounding pathways are used for walking, jogging, and biking (NATC, 3). A
popular walking trail is the Marina View Park walkway along Oracle Parkway (Graham and
Fairclough 2014, 1). The Pacific Athletic Club is located close to the wetlands. For a membership fee,
residents can use the amenities at this facility, which includes a fitness center and a pool (NATC, 3).
The Bay Trail is a recreational hotspot, which loops around the Redwood Shores peninsula (NATC, 6).
The Bay Trail provides outdoor recreation for hikers, joggers, bicyclists and skaters through its multi
use paths, dirt trails, bike lanes, and sidewalks and city streets that are designated as bike lanes (San
Francisco Bay Trail). The Bay Trail also allows for wildlife viewing opportunities, and is optimal for

The Creation Of A Utopian Civilization Essay
In an imperfect world such as ours, the idea of a utopia capable of satisfying all needs and desires has
been attempted to be made reality time and time again. However, few have succeeded because it is
difficult if not impossible to accommodate a large population of people with varying interests. The key
to maintaining a utopian civilization is ensuring that all basic needs are met in order to avoid the
overthrow of the established government regulation activity. The creation of Bentopia is centered
around the goal to make the most efficient society possible while still allowing citizens the freedom to
choose. As the architectural committee, we strived to develop both public and personal spaces that
optimize the use of space in a non wasteful manner, while also keeping in mind the climate,
geographical location of our city, and environmental impact our structures have. The way we have
organized houses, shopping malls, governmental and corporate buildings within our utopia is meant to
maximize resources we have on hand through the division of the city into three districts. The most
important considerations when creating a layout fit for a utopia fifty years into the future is offering a
comfortable, sustainable lifestyle while still retaining core values of free will and equality. The
practical distribution of material goods should not jeopardize basic rights that are standard within an
ideal society. When first approaching the dilemma on how to allot land, the urban

Social Hierarchy Of The Aztec Social Structures
Social Structures The Aztec people had a rigid social hierarchy that was made up of nobles (pipiltin),
commoners (macehualtin), serfs, and slaves. The noble members of society were made up of lords
(tecihtli), government and military leaders and high level priests. Only these nobles were allowed to
show evidence of their wealth by wearing jewellery and decorated capes. Nobles were entitled to
receive tribute from commoners in the form of goods, services and labour. The commoner class was
made up of farmer, merchants, artisans and low level priests. Commoners would usually live in
calpulli or neighbourhood ward lead by a single noble or group of commoner elders. The merchants
and artisans had it the best of all of those in this class with more freedom and wealth than those
around them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The serfs would work the land of the noble s but would not reside with the commoners. Slavery could
be a punishment for an individual s crimes or failure to pay tribute to the nobles above them. Someone
could elect to send themselves or their children into slavery to pay off a debt with permission of the
court and any prisoners of war that were not sacrificed to the gods would most likely end up as a
slave. Unlike many other cases of slavery throughout history, slaves had the right to marry, have
children, to buy their freedom or even substitute another in their place. Slaves were rarely resold and
so were usually released upon the death of the noble they served. No Aztecs were born slaves and

Lemon Law Research Paper
Lemon Laws
Lemon laws, not everyone is aware that such a law exists. If everyone in the world knows about this
law and how it can protect the customer from malfunctions and defect, it would be a law used
regularly. Not all filed claims go to court and the ones that do, it s either one or the other side that wins
or losses. The term lemon is used not only to describe fruit, but also automobiles and other goods. In
the 1800s it was a word used to describe unpleasant people and in the 1900s lemons began to refer to
items that were worthless. Lemon law is just a nickname for any state or federal law that provides a

The Wanderings Of Odysseus And The Odyssey And The Odyssey
In Edith Hamilton s book, Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes and in The Wanderings of
Odysseus from The Odyssey the epic poem by Homer and translated by Robert Fitzgerald, Jason and
Odysseus display the following similar traits throughout their adventures: selfishness, dishonesty, and
delegate. Throughout Jason and Odysseus adventures, they both showed a great amount of selfishness.
Selfishness is the act of being selfish, lacking consideration for others. On Jason s quest to finding the
Golden Fleece, the author mentions, ...he thought of ambition only, never of love or of gratitude
(Hamilton 133). During the long quest for the Golden Fleece, Jason was only focused on being
successful, not much different from Odysseus. While on Odysseus voyage there had been fierce
cannibals who bombarded the fleet of ships with boulders. Selfishness played apart of this
misdemeanor because Odysseus didn t seem to care to help out the rest of his crew, Only Odysseus,
his ship, and its crew of 45 survive the shower of boulders. The lone ship then sails to Aeaea, home of
the goddess Circe, who is considered by many to be a witch (Fitzgerald 1224). Both scenarios from
Hamilton s book and Fitzgerald s book are very similar. The main characters both seem like they only
care about themselves being successful and they don t fully put thought into their mentor s health.
Mentors are the people who have intentions to helping out. The mentor in The Mythology would be
Medea and in The Odyssey, it would have been his crew, who did not survive on the other ships. They
may have not been aware that they were being selfish because they were busy having their mind set on
having to stay alive and complete the duty. In effect of having their minds only set on getting the job
done, all three of these characteristics have played a part of it.
A great amount of dishonesty had played a part on the way of Jason and Odysseus adventures. In
Edith Hamilton s book, Jason showed dishonesty by taking all the glory when many people helped
along the way, All that she did evil and of good was done for him alone, and in the end, all the reward
she got was that he turned traitor to her (Hamilton 133). Jason wasn t very honest to Medea,

  • 2. Steel During The Second Industrial Revolution The second Industrial Revolution was an era that created many inventions off of the first Industrial Revolution, which included refining techniques to chemicals, electricity, transportation, and production engineering to name a few. One of the most highly technological innovations of the second Industrial Revolution, however, was the innovation of steel. Steel was used before the second Industrial Revolution, but was mainly used to make swords and weapons by blacksmiths. Before the second Industrial Revolution Henry Bessemer writes in his autobiography, At that date there was no steel suitable for structural purposes . Krispy Kreme has produced a very favorable and high quality doughnut with an excellent visual appeal not found elsewhere. This is in part from great technology that allows quick finishing of cooking of partially cooked doughnuts. Doughnuts are prepared in advance and cooked to a certain point (Krispy Kreme, 2001). They are kept stored properly and are then finished cooking by the technology of the Hot Doughnuts Now machine. This process helps prepare for large orders and big rushes, while still giving the customer quality and freshness. One big attraction of Krispy Kreme is there neon sign displayed at all stores which signals Hot Now when the doughnuts are fresh out the oven. Customers want freshness, so Krispy Kreme tells them when that is, without customers having to take chances on whether they will receive fresh, hot products. Charles Tiebout in his seminal 1956 article put forth a model where local bodies compete in the provision of public services. He considers a city resident who wishes to move to the suburbs, a consumer voter , who selects a community that best reflects and satisfies his preferences for public goods. Given that local governments have set patterns of expenditure and revenue, the greater the number of local governments, the closer the consumer voter may find his preferences represented. Tiebout s model is based on the following assumptions: perfect mobility of consumer voters; their perfect knowledge of differences between revenue and expenditure patterns and the ability to react to these differences; many communities to choose from in which to live; no employment restrictions as all consumer voters live on dividend income and no external economies or diseconomies in the provision of public goods between communities. Additionally, he also defines an optimum level of community services i.e. the number of residents for whom the bundle of services can be produced at the lowest average cost. Slaying the Dragon Essay Slaying the Dragon: How Asian Women were Portrayed in Movies Slaying the Dragon by Deborah Gee is a comprehensive look at media stereotypes of Asian and Asian American women since the silent era. The movie also shows how stereotypes of exoticism and docility have affected the perception of Asian American women. Nowhere in the movie are Asian American women presented as sexually subservient, but it presents realistically the lives of these Asian women. The Asian women in films like Sayonara and The San Pebbles and musicals like Miss Saigon are seen as people who are submissive and silent. A young American soldier is often involved in these plots, as most of these plots are war dramas. The Asian girl falls in love with the American because she sees him as a savior who will take her back home with him so she can fulfill what she thinks is the American Dream , meaning that she can go from rags to riches. On the contrary, the American falls in love with the Asian girl because he feels preference for submissiveness, which he finds more feminine and attractive. As well, the American is embodied with the Christopher Columbus Syndrome , and feels that he has to dominate her. This passive eastern femininity in relation to western male dominance is portrayed in these dramas. Moral nihilists refer to ethical values as nothing more than what each individual gives bias or favor to (Carr). Hamlet s soul is an empty vase that gives place to nothing (Cutrofello). Following his father s death, Hamlet feels life has little meaning, he feels hopeless and believes there is no longer any thing good or worth living for in life. • 10. Essay on Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho In the ancient text The Descent of Innana and the lyric poetry of Sappho, language is viewed as magic. Not only are the words themselves acting as magic, as in an invocation, but other things manifest themselves as magic throughout the works. The most common throughout the works of Sappho is that of love. Sappho also shows us the magic of everyday life in many of her poems. Finally, the writing down of the works performs a magic all of its own; the magic of continuation. Through the writing of their works the story of Innana and the poetry of Sappho will live on forever. The most obvious use of language as magic is in The Descent of Innana. Leave Crete and come to us / waiting where the grove is / pleasantest, by precincts / sacred to you; incense / smokes on the altar... ( lines 2 6). This shows how words were believed to hold the power to persuade a god or goddess. The hope was that, if the offering of poetry was beautiful enough, then the god would grant the request of the poet. This is not the only form of magic that words held for the ancient Greeks. In another poem that Sappho wrote, A Prayer to Aphrodite , Sappho describes anguished love. Sappho desires nothing more then to have this unrequited love returned to her arms. In this poem the magic of language calls Aphrodite forth and inspires her to do Sappho a favor. It inspires the goddess to give Sappho the power to bring this person back to the glittering net of her arms (19). This shows Sappho s true desire to harness the power of love through the magic of language. If she can only write this poem beautiful enough then Aphrodite will take pity on her and give her what she most wants. What s the secret wish of your crazy, wild heart? / Whom must Love compel with Her wily ruses / back into the glittering net of your arms? / Sappho, who hurts you? (17 20). MUSTAPHA ISA QASIM, DEPARTMENT OF ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCE EDUCATION, (ISLAMIC STUDIES SECTION) AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY, ZARIA. ABSTRACT The main objective of Zakah(Alms giving) is to alleviate poverty in the Muslim community .The system is specifically designed to take care of the needs of the poor and the needy from the Muslim Ummah. In this paper, a close look at this vital role of Zakah is made, indicating that the present economic hardship in the Muslim Ummah could be easily solved through the institution of Zakah. It was practiced during the time of the Prophet (S.A.W.) and his Companions, and subsequently in the period of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz. Therefore, the system of Zakah is strongly recommended to be used for poverty alleviation in Nigerian Muslim communities. It has a negative effect on the body and others who are around the person smoking, but being able to quit can positively change a person s health. Nicotine is one of the biggest component in a cigarette, it stimulates the central nervous system which then gives the smoker a pleasurable feeling. The cigarette s stimulants make smoking very addictive, which causes smoking cessation challenging for a person. There are now various amounts of ways to help them gradually stop, and the number of different alternatives that are readily available can greatly affect the person s habits. One common way to help smoking cessation is the use of an electronic cigarette. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study by Bullen et al. (2013) and Hann, Mnatzaganian, Rahman, Wilson, and Worall Carter (2015) states that e cigarettes without nicotine is not as effective for cessation. (2013), out of the 73 people who were given placebo e cigarettes, only 3 were able to continue their cessation after six months (p.1633). The results of these studies can be due to the fact that the e cigarette does not contain nicotine and the smoker is not getting the pleasurable feeling a nicotine gives. The results of the use of e cigarettes with nicotine resulted with a higher outcome, which will be explained in Alternatives with Nicotine. A device that contradicts the previous study because evidence shows that it can actually help is a nicotine free inhalator. This only allows the person to replace the physical gestures that they associate with smoking a regular cigarette, such as hand to mouth action. By using this technique, Arcidiacono et al. Tay-Sachs Disease Description Tay Sachs disease, (also known as GM2 gangliosidosis or hexosaminidase A deficiency), is a fatal autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by insufficient activity of the enzyme beta hexosaminidase A. It is very rare, found more prevalently among certain populations, like those with Eastern European, (Ashkenazi Jewish) heritage (Bethesda, 2014), and usually results in death by the age of four. The purpose of this essay is to illustrate the pathology and inheritance patterns of this genetic disorder, and provide the molecular base, prognosis, and possible treatments. Research later in the 20th century illustrated that Tay Sachs disease is a genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the HEXA gene on chromosome 15. Many other HEXA mutations have been discovered since then, including different mutations within different populations. Being an autosomal recessive disorder, for an individual to exhibit symptoms it is required to have two Tay Sachs alleles affected, meaning that when both parents are carriers, the offspring have a 25% of being affected. This disease has shown to be prevalent in certain populations in recent years. Those of Ashkenazi Jewish descent are one of these populations, being more prone to the infantile form of Tay Sachs disease, caused by a base pair insertion leading to the mutation. More research has led us to believe that compound heterozygosity is ultimately responsible for the disease s variability among different populations. Those who are heterozygous carriers tend to exhibit abnormal enzyme activity but never show true disease symptoms. This is due to the dominance phenomenon, and with Tay Sachs being recessive autosomal, it requires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Research Study On Contemporary Organizations Student s Name: Tutor s Name: Course: Date Introduction Contemporary organizations operate in a very dynamic global environment and as such have learnt to value diversity in the workplace in order to sustain a competitive edge. However, embracing diversity alone is not enough to lead to sustainable success. What are needed are the organizations that want to be on top of the game to ensure an inclusive workplace environment so that the fruits of diversity can be enjoyed. Diversity refers to representation of multiple identity groups and their cultures in particular organization or workgroup while inclusion is creating, fostering and sustaining practices and conditions that encourage and allow each of us to be fully ourselves with our differences from and similarities to those around us as we work together (Ferdman, 2013, p. xxii).Ferdman asserts that the goal of inclusion is the psychological sense that we matter and that our voice and contributions are important. This inclusion begins with everyone recognizing the fact that we are made up of many components, characteristics and identities which are intertwined and make us whole. Violent games like Mortal Kombat, Dead Space, Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty have become common household games. Boys are more effected by video games; thus, video games have made males more violent because they include military techniques, reality based settings, and change people s behaviors. Knowing the history of violent video games is important in understanding how they have become more violent. In 1976 Exidy games released the first violent video game, Death Race. In that game the player would drive a car over stick figures, turning them into gravestones (Douglass). The public was soon outraged by the video game and, the end result was that Exidy sales doubled or quadrupled (qtd. in Douglass). People wanted the violence. Most early video games did not include people to people violence like most games now, they were just the gateway into the world of violence. The founder of Atari, Nolan Bushnell said, We had an internal rule that we wouldn t allow violence against people. You could blow up a tank or you could blow up a flying saucer, but you couldn t blow up people (Douglass). Later companies formed and with them came better graphics, therefore more gore. Advantages Of Bhakti And Prapatti Bhakti and Prapatti corresponds to the operation of the Divine ascent and descent both point to the same fact; for Rāmānuja there is no material difference between them. Analysis Of Obasan By Joy Kogawa In Obasan, Joy Kogawa explores a woman s past through conflict, themes of silence and prejudice presenting her traumatic story in an unthreatening manner suggesting it is possible to heal from trauma. Obasan is a powerful novel written through the perspective of Naomi Nakane, who is the protagonist of the novel. The novel s core is based on the memories and experiences of Naomi. The setting is Western Canada and the novel goes back and forth between 1972 and World War II during the internment of Japanese Canadians. In this paper, I am going to be specifically talking about teaching math. It is important that teaching be done in a way that is relational. This means that the children are answering the questions their own way and in a way that makes sense to them specifically. In the book teaching students entered mathematics Walle states that They develop their understanding of mathematics because they are at the center of explaining, providing evidence or justification, finding or creating examples, generalizing, analyzing, making predictions, applying concepts, representing ideas in different ways, and articulating connections or relationships between the given topic and other ideas. With facilitative methods, the teacher might use investigations and inquiry, cooperative learning, discussion, and questions that are more open‐ended. • 23. Of Selfishness In Lord Of The FliesAndJulius Ceaser Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness. In this quote, Martin Luther King, Jr., expresses how a person has a decision between selflessness and selfishness, and that their decision predicts the way they live. The choice of walking in, the light of creative altruism, allows a person to live a life with little harm due to their selfless ways. However, a person s choice of walking in, the darkness of destructive selfishness, will bring them many struggles and devastations throughout their lifetime. Therefore, based on the person s actions, they will follow either a path of hardship or ease. Similarly, in William Golding s, Lord of the Flies, and Shakespeare s, Julius Ceaser, the characters choose between a selfless or selfish lifestyle. This decision is made through their intentions of killing to help themselves or to benefit the lives of their group. In both the book, the character, Jack Merridew, and in the play, the characters, Brutus and Cassius, all choose to kill with the goal of helping their groups. Although the character s notions are right, there are hidden feelings of jealousy resulting in crimes that are for their own good. • 25. Theme Of Romanticism In My Antonia When Jim Burden initially reaches Nebraska, his descriptions of nature help the reader understand not only his personal experiences, but also the Romanticism prevalent in the book, My Antonia. This sets the reader up for the struggle and conflict between Modernism and Romanticism in the book, which is a major theme that Willa Cather utilizes in her novel. However, there is more to this Romantic description that meets the eye. On pages 12 and 13, Jim describes looking at the land while he travels to his grandparents, a passage which evokes beauty and hints towards philosophical meaning. Through this passage in the first chapter, it becomes clear that Jim s narration of the nature around him works to highlight the idea that the land is a heaven that is untouched. Like young Jim, the land is in a blank slate, which intertwines the land and Jim together. This is furthered through the progression of the land and Jim, as they progress into godlike beings. Through this progression and balance, the balance between Modernism and Romanticism is achieved, and the reader better understands the intentions of Cather, thus leading to a better understanding of the text as a whole. Jim s view of the land, and his word choice in describing the land, proves that Nebraska is a symbol for heaven. This heavenly state is important, as it shows that the land is important and highly placed. Jim explicitly states that, unlike his hometown, Nebraska was not entirely earthly in presence. Over the course of history, the durable and efficient diesel engine has replaced other less efficient modes of power production, including steam engines in the railroad industry. Because diabetes is largely a self managed disease, education is key to patient success. The process of providing diabetes self management education (DSME) may be facilitated by a variety of healthcare professionals, including nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, physicians, mental health professionals, optometrists, podiatrists, and exercise physiologists. Diabetes is a multifaceted, chronic disease that impacts body systems specific to each of the disciplines (AADE, 2011). Single and multidisciplinary tools exist to facilitate the process of effective patient assessment. Examples of these will be explored to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. In an ideal setting DSME is provided by a multidisciplinary team, which allows the patient the benefits of an array of expertise and perspective (AADE, 2011). While most patients benefit from this approach, some may be averse to working with multiple team members and a single person on the team may end up being the primary resource. It should also be noted that, not all patients have access to a multidisciplinary team due to rural settings or barriers with insurance coverage. In these situations, patients may receive care from a single healthcare professional that, with proper training and mentorship from peers in other disciplines, can effectively provide education and support. ... • 48. The Wanderings Of Odysseus And The Odyssey And The Odyssey In Edith Hamilton s book, Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes and in The Wanderings of Odysseus from The Odyssey the epic poem by Homer and translated by Robert Fitzgerald, Jason and Odysseus display the following similar traits throughout their adventures: selfishness, dishonesty, and delegate. Throughout Jason and Odysseus adventures, they both showed a great amount of selfishness. Selfishness is the act of being selfish, lacking consideration for others. On Jason s quest to finding the Golden Fleece, the author mentions, ...he thought of ambition only, never of love or of gratitude (Hamilton 133). During the long quest for the Golden Fleece, Jason was only focused on being successful, not much different from Odysseus. While on Odysseus voyage there had been fierce cannibals who bombarded the fleet of ships with boulders. Selfishness played apart of this misdemeanor because Odysseus didn t seem to care to help out the rest of his crew, Only Odysseus, his ship, and its crew of 45 survive the shower of boulders. The lone ship then sails to Aeaea, home of the goddess Circe, who is considered by many to be a witch (Fitzgerald 1224). Both scenarios from Hamilton s book and Fitzgerald s book are very similar. The main characters both seem like they only care about themselves being successful and they don t fully put thought into their mentor s health. Mentors are the people who have intentions to helping out. The mentor in The Mythology would be Medea and in The Odyssey, it would have been his crew, who did not survive on the other ships. They may have not been aware that they were being selfish because they were busy having their mind set on having to stay alive and complete the duty. In effect of having their minds only set on getting the job done, all three of these characteristics have played a part of it. A great amount of dishonesty had played a part on the way of Jason and Odysseus adventures. In Edith Hamilton s book, Jason showed dishonesty by taking all the glory when many people helped along the way, All that she did evil and of good was done for him alone, and in the end, all the reward she got was that he turned traitor to her (Hamilton 133). Jason wasn t very honest to Medea, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
