Definition Essay-Peering Into Photography
Peering into Photography Since its arrival in the late 1820 s, photography has become much more
common and ubiquitous in our day to day lives. Due to its increased technological presence, our
society, purposefully or not, has altered some of its fundamental values. While some of these changes
worked in our favor, others resulted in a community that is significantly more divided and focused on
the individual instead of the collective society. In a time when we should be working together to create
a better future, we are instead significantly more concerned with ourselves and our image. As a result
of our infatuation with photography we have altered the way in which we see ourselves and therefore,
we have become more self conscious, self centered and conceded.
Photography and the photographs they produced were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, many support the idea that the growing prevalence of such technologies has led to an increase
in body dissatisfaction and body concerns (McLean). In allowing others to determine how we should
feel or see ourselves, we are more and more passive in our lives and as a result, less active members of
our communities. All in all, there is certainly a growing concern amongst our society about self image.
We may be using external stimuli in creating these perceptions of ourselves but still, the fundamental
topic of this conversation revolves around the individual, not the larger society they are a part of.
Today, we are more self conscious and in a way, as a result of the endless amount of time we allow
ourselves to be preoccupied by our own self image, each of us as individuals has become more self
centered. The more ubiquitous this technology becomes, the clearer it is that many members of our
society today, live in a highly anthropocentric

Biology Personal Statement
The field of science and I do not have the lifelong love as many of the other STEM students at this
school do. Throughout my entire elementary career, I hated science mainly due to the topics covered
were heavily in the geology department. I can t say science runs in my family, in fact college doesn t
even run in my family. It wasn t until my freshman year in high school I finally was given the
opportunity to learn about molecular biology that science popped up on my radar of interest. I was
hooked from my first honors biology class, however was still a bit apprehensive about being a
biologist as a future career. Learning about the mechanisms at play in the body was interesting, but I
always wanted to go in a more kinesthetic direction. I wanted to know how these systems were at
work, and even more, how they could be harnessed to improve efficiency or to arrive at some other
targeted mean. Being the hands on person I am, I wasn t satisfied with just the theoretical ideas being
explored, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of this previous school year, I had privilege to have been hired by the Garden Lab, a
neurology lab looking at the various aspects of inflammatory responses in the brain, and how this

undergraduate experience, however, I am very interested in joining the Chet Moritz lab. The Moritz
lab would be a rewarding combination, because it is an actual integration of the engineering of
fabricated devises in tandem with the neurological system. I was also drawn to the molecular and

Bethune s Beach After The Readings Of Brooker T. Washington
Bethune relocated to Daytona Beach after the readings of Brooker T. Washington inspired her to go
with her vision and open her own school. Many people tried to discourage her to not to go to Daytona
because the black laborers in the area lived in poverty much like slavery and the Ku Klux Klan would
commit violent acts against anyone who tried to better African Americans. Her husband Albertus
Bethune did not agree with her dreams and left her to return back to N.C. and they never got back
together again. On October 3rd, 1904 Bethune opened the doors of the Daytona Normal and Industrial
Institute for Negro Girls. Her rent was 11 dollars a month and she would charge the young ladies fifty
cents a week for tuition. The local black community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She offered two hundred for the land with a down payment of five dollars. The owner didn t believe

had started to really take shape and through her success she Enabled Others to Act. They acted through
their action to foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust. She also
strengthens others by sharing power and discretion. Bethune knew in order for her vision to be
successful she had to get the community engaged in the work she was going. She was able to have
enough volunteers to clear the debris from the newly purchased land. She was able to beg for used
bricks and other supplies for the new school house and she traded labor of the men for the tuition of
their families. Bethune was never too prideful to ask for help she would give talks at hotels or her and
the students would sing for the guest, she would even go from door to door to ask for money. She soon
learned that a lot of rich white men and white women s societies supported the school. One of her
letters she sent asking for support reached James Gamble from Protector Gamble and until he actually
met Bethune he thought she was a white woman. However, after he was over his shock, he was

Dog Whistling Is A Term Used By Politicians
Dog Whistle Politics is a term used by politicians to persuade the people by gaining their votes into a
political position of power. Dog Whistling has been used for years by politicians to achieve what they
want while campaigning for public offices. Politicians have been maneuvering and scheming for years
during elections for the peoples vote. They have always put on a show for the people just to receive
their vote. They set their sights on an office of public position and they begin a long and hard working
race to gain votes. Dog whistling is just a different way for them to use codes or demonstrate to
certain people to what they are really trying to say. Politicians portray a good and upright demeanor. It
s part of their job. During their campaign for a specific position, they make promises to the people,
they put time into well thought out and written speeches, they research every city and the population
during the campaign tour and it is all to persuade the vast majority of people for their vote. It deals
with race as well. Dog Whistling and racism seem to go hand in hand because it s dealing with race.
Racism has been in politics for years. Dog Whistling is just a word used to speak to a certain group of
people in code. Racism is still imbedded in us as people because we cannot treat each other equal.
Some politicians use Dog Whistling as a way to speak to the mass of racism that is still current in
today s society. The author in this book uses Dog Whistle Politics

Raising Money in U.S. Stock Markets
1. Is raising money in U.S. stock markets more or less difficult than in the rest of the world? To start,
using the article that is cited for the class is...well, dated at the very least. The United States has gone
through at least a complete financial cycle since after the article was written. The tech bust and then
the quickly following tragedy of September 11, 2001 with the ensuing market meltdown were just the
beginning. Just to put it into perspective, During the last seven years, we ve had recession, 9 11, Rita,
Katrina, two wars, the mutual fund scandal, the meltdown in subprime, Enron, WorldCom and Martha
Stewart. According to Michael Arnow, director of financial planning in the Milwaukee office of SJA

Is it wise for a U.S. corporation to list its stock on foreign stock exchanges? What are the possible
advantages and disadvantages of such a move? Listing on a foreign exchange brings the added risks of
uncertainty of the US dollar, trade embargoes, trade tariffs, foreign service fees, an entirely different
IRS reporting structure, and many other hurdles. If a company is big enough to have a financial
management section headed by a CFO, then it should not be very difficult to list on a foreign
exchange with enough program management. The advantages of listing of a foreign exchange include
greater exposure, opportunities in foreign markets that might otherwise be unattainable, and higher
profits. The disadvantages are much the same as in the setup; recurring foreign taxes, trade margin
fluctuations, and other foreign trade barriers. Overall, an ADR or move to forward markets would, for
a US based company, be a good move in the current economy. Exposure to foreign markets and
currencies would translate back to higher profits. For companies outside the US, moving in would be a
short term fiasco between the weakening dollar, but in the long run an excellent move because now is
the time to get into the US on the cheap . References Kathleen Gallagher (23 January). Don t panic,

Does NASA spend too much money? In 2016, NASA s budget for space exploration is $18.5 billion
and is projected to only increase in the coming years, in 2020 the budget is estimated to be nearly $20
billion. This budget is broken down into several different categories on where they are to spend money
of the year; the categories are: Science, Aeronautics, Space Technology, Exploration, Space
Operations, Education, Safety, Security, Mission Services, Construction and Environmental
Compliance and Restoration, and Inspector General. In each category, they are only allotted so much
money to spend on a project for that year and every year it either increases or decreases depending on

itself through hard economic times before investing in theoretical tomorrows . (DeGroot, Jerry. The

from more useful programs on Earth such as education systems, helping the poor, or paying back
national debt. These people need not to worry about the money being wasted in space because
although it s very difficult, space exploration has proven to be a successful thing to

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay
The phrase so it goes is repeated 106 times in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. From dead
champagne to the massacre at Dresden, every death in the book is seemingly equalized with the phrase
so it goes . The continuation of this phrase ties in with the general theme on indifference in the story.
If the Tralfamadorian view of time is correct, then everyone is continuously living every moment of
their life and dying is not the end. However, if Vonnegut believed in this idea, then he wouldn t have
felt compelled to write about the firebombing of Dresden. It is clear that both Billy Pilgrim and Kurt
Vonnegut are affected by the massacre they saw, but they have different ways of rationalizing it. Billy
finds comfort in the Tralfamadorian view of life, whereas Vonnegut disagrees, and urges the reader to
disagree too. The constant repetition of so it goes breaks the reader away from the Tralfamadorian
point of view, and allows them to come to their own conclusion that although it would be nice to
forget the bad parts of life, it is important to remember all of the past. Vonnegut helps the reader come
to this conclusion by repeating the phrase after gruesome moments, and showing how meaningless life
can be if the Tralfamadorian ideas are believed, as seen through Billy Pilgrim s bland life.. The first
use of so it goes comes in the first chapter, while Vonnegut is talking in the first person. He met a cab
driver who was a German soldier and said things were much

Female Characters In Peter Pan
The Repression of Female Characters in Peter Pan
At first glance, J. M. Barrie s Peter Pan appears to be an innocent literary depiction of a young boy
who wishes to never grow up thus, remaining a child. Peter Pan, the story s main protagonist, poses as
the mischievous and youthful boy who spends his eternal life seeking adventures and leading the Lost
Boys through the make believe island, Neverland. Peter acquires the company of a young British girl
by the name of Wendy Darling and her two little brothers, John and Michael Darling. In the company
of the British children, Pan travels back to Neverland to primarily utilise Wendy for her motherly
expertise. Further inquiry and literary analysis of the 1904 novel leads readers to believe there is more
to the story than what can be seen at first glance. Peter Pan is one of many novels subject to feminist
literary criticism; the novel displays an array of male characters with very few female characters to
contrast. Furthermore, female characters can be seen as passive, and frequently submit to paternal
authority. In Peter Pan, women are assigned specific roles that mirror the responsibilities of those in
the Victorian Era. The demeaning and gender stereotypical interpretation of women coupled with the
encouragement of male dominance places the story under criticism for its subjugation of women. In
essence, the female characters are subject to the gender stereotypes and societal norms of the Victorian
era in which they are

The State Of Texas County
In Texas, each county is governed by a five member Commissioners Court, which consists of a
County Judge (elected at large) and four Commissioners (elected from single member precincts). The
County Judge has no veto authority over the decisions of the Court; they have one vote along with the
other Commissioners. In smaller counties, the County Judge also performs judicial functions, while in
larger counties their role is limited to the Court. Elections are based on the political parties, Democrat,
Republican, Independent and sometimes Libertarian. Counties do not have home rule authority
because their authority is strictly limited by the State. Texas counties, merely exist to deliver specific
types of services at the local level as prescribed by state law, but cannot enact or enforce local
ordinances.
254 counties make up the state of Texas. The Dallas metropolitan area is much larger, and is one of the
fastest growing in the country. The 12 county Dallas Fort Worth Arlington (DFW) metropolitan area
has a population of 6,985,579 and is expected to be 7,960,117 by 2020 (Texas Population 2020
Projections, 2014). Nearly one million new residents in the DFW metropolitan area will cause more
traffic congestion, the need for new jobs and more housing. People normally like to live closer to their
employers, so the areas with the best jobs will see faster population growth. Cities and counties need
to compete for companies much like they did with Toyota. Toyota moved their U.S.

Dan Sperber s Article The Future of Writing
In Dan Sperber s article The Future of Writing, he assesses the presence of writing and reading in our
society, as well as where it may lie in the future . He addresses the possible downfall of writing, the
prevalence that reading will hold in our society, as well as how our society will adapt and handle the
changes. He also covers the emergence of text to speech and speech to text technological advances,
the effects on society and how the disappearance of the two of them will never fully occur. Sperber s
main claim throughout the article is that writing, with the help of technology, may eventually cease to
exist, or at least be far less prominent . While writing has obtained a unique and prominent standing in
most places of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Sperber does stress that there is a strong difference between the writing and reading, and
their relationship with technology. While he states that writing may completely be taken over by
technology, the same could never be done to reading. Most particularly because the two are very
closely linked, yet writing could never exist without reading. The benefits that are present with writing
come mostly from reading, as well as with the fact that as you write, you read along with your words.
Though writing may be replaced at some point in time, reading can never be replaced despite the text
to speech technology.
In particular, he addresses the impact that technology could have, and like writing it involves both
speech and text, yet in the opposite order. This time technology would allow a person to listen to the
text be read to them rather than having to read it themselves. However, Sperber suspects that this is
much less likely than the latter, particularly because most people prefer to read and interpret on their
own. They typically also do not enjoy the voice of the computer, and it is much harder to follow,
especially due to

The Rise of the Norman Empire
Hold the wall! shouted King Harold II as the Normans began to work their way past the Anglo Saxon
shield wall. The Anglo Saxon empire reigned over London for its fair share of time before William the
Duke of Normandy decided to take it from them. William was the son of Robert I and his wife was
Matilda of Flanders. William was of Viking origin and he spoke French. King Harold II was ruler of
London after King Harold I died. King Harold II was the last Anglo Saxon King of England. In the
year 1066 a great battle took place that would change the way London lived forever. This battle was
called The Battle of Hastings.

The Battle itself was fought over the only road that connected Hastings to London and the victor of
the battle would own that road. The coastline of Sussex was nearer than it was today and caused the
major road that crossed through Hastings and London a major trade route. King Harold needed this
road for sustaining his campaign and William wanted control of the only proper road to the Heart of
England. The battle was not actually fought in the town of Hastings but rather fought roughly seven
miles away from the town. The reason they called the Battle, the Battle of Hastings was because back
in the middle ages era battle was important. The people of 1066 agreed that battle was wealthy. The
title Battle of Battle simply did not work so they named it to the nearest large city, which was
Hastings. (historylearningsite).
An important part of the battle itself was what the information was gathered from. Most things known
about the Battle of Hastings was collected from the Bayeux Tapestry. The Bayeux Tapestry was not
exactly a tapestry though its name says differently, but instead it is an embroidered linen cloth that is
about 70 meters long. The Bayeux Tapestry depicts the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings,
during the battle itself, and the events thereafter starting with a scene depicting Edward the Confessor
sending Harold to Normandy and ends with the English troops fleeing the battlefield at

My Only Friend In My Life
Inside the high school, I walk to my first period class, geometry. The study of shapes, something I ll
never use in life. However long that life may be.
That s when I see my only friend in the world after J died: Rachel Myers. Strange, considering she s
white and usually their kind don t hang out with the colored folk. I walk up to her and tap her locker to
get her attention. What do you want, Marcus? she asks, not even bothering to look at me. Yup, that s
how great of friends we are now. What s your problem? Daddy lower your allowance? I shoot back.
Here s the thing. We re okay, you and me. But we re not friends, not anymore, so stop acting like we
are. I don t want to be seen with you. I m not here to get the crap beaten out of me, so sorry, but screw
off.
Are you screwing with me? I ve known you and we ve been friends since 2nd effing grade! The words
go from a shout to a hushed whisper as I remember what happens to the kids who make too much
noise. And I m cutting the friendship off, she says like a bitch as she walks away from my life. I wrap
my fingers around the cuff of her long sleeved shirt. Ohhh no. Oh no you effing don t. You don t get to
walk away from me. Not after all the crap we ve been through. My only arm ripped away from that
traitor as my shirt is yanked back and I m choked. An infamous voice booms from my attacker. This

The Stresses that Come with Being a Nurse
Multiple studies over the past twenty plus years have looked at factors affecting the nurse s workday
and the effects it has on them. When an individual first enters a chosen career, he or she is driven. If
the work environment is not encouraging of the individual s efforts and concerns, the reality of the job
and the individual s prospects begin to deviate and frustration and disappointment happens. (Kerri,
2014) These feelings can bring about job displeasure, resulting in decreased efficiency, loss of
confidence and concentration, and behavior changes. If these circumstances are not addressed, stress
accumulates and causes typical stress related symptoms. The definite stressors within the work
environment that lead to stress and burnout can be different among occupations and between
individuals within an occupation. The starting place of burnout is in the work environment, but
because not every individuals working in a certain environment will experience burnout, personal risk
factors must have a role in putting the individual at risk for burnout. Therefore, personality is another
important factor to be considered.
Jennings (2010) found that: Neuroticism has been associated with exhaustion. External locus of
control has demonstrated a positive relationship with burnout and stress. Findings are mixed for
hardiness. Evaluations of anxiety reflect a link with stress and burnout. Anxiety is viewed as having
two components state anxiety, the temporary component which manifests

Children with Special Needs

and have helped her in many of the autism fundraisers that she puts on to raise money for her autism

took over once he got into school. All his services are done in school the occupational therapist,
physical therapist, and speech therapy are done on a weekly basis. The mother even stated that her son
goes horse back riding with his class. She feels good about the progress her son has progressed to but
feels that he needs more in school service time. The reason her son does not receive more in school
help is because the school is stretched thin on funding and finding the necessary people to give him
services. She also goes on to state that finding help out of school is difficult. This had answered my
next question for her which was do you feel your child is getting enough services? I didn t want the
interview to turn to a negative aspect of things so I decided to ask the question what are some strong
aspects of your local public special education programs? She seemed to have a lot of great things to

Book Review Barbarians to Angels Essay
Wells, Peter. Barbarians to Angel: The Dark Ages Reconsidered. New York, NY: W.W. Norton
Company, Inc., 2008
Barbarians to Angels written by Peter Wells is an enlightening read that sheds light on to what really
went on during The Dark Ages . The written word during 400 800 AD came from educated citizens of
the Roman Empire and their recount could be judgmental. Many historians are led to believe that
Barbarians destroyed Roman and everyone suffered from acts of violence, a mass migration, disease,
starvation, and this was the way of life for hundreds of years. But Peter Wells goes beyond the
information in the written accounts and looks at the actual archaeological evidence. He uses this
information to help visualize life that went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But over time some of these building would be torn down to make room for other uses and the some
of the larger stones would be reused. Wells see s this as another example of how life didn t stop just
continued on differently. The studies of these cities reveal that there was continuity from one
generation to the next and not abrupt declines followed brilliant discoveries.
Wells points out several times throughout the book and he even uses a whole chapter to talk about
Religion. The way Wells stresses that even though the declared religion is Christianity people still
used or practiced their beliefs from before. Wells does use archaeological evidence to back this up
from the burial sites, burial practices in Christian literature, artwork, and mythological themes hidden
with Christian imagery. This evidence shows that the general public was very slow to accept proper
Christian practice, and even those converted rulers held to traditions too. The book makes one think
about how long and how many of these traditions survived. Wells even states in the book on pages 184
185, Wearing or carrying charms, saying prayer before meals, decorating Christmas trees, coloring
eggs at Easter, and tossing coins into fountains are parts of practices that were carried out by the
prehistoric Peoples of Europe. What people think today when they toss their pennies, dimes, and

Feasibility Of Preventive Maintenance On The Oil Pipelines
ABSTRACT Oil spills have devastating effects wherever it occurs like damage to aquatic, aerial and
terrestrial life. Most of NNPC s oil spillage is largely due to pipeline corrosion. This paper will
explore the feasibility of preventive maintenance on the oil pipelines which will aid in the prevention
and early detection of oil leakages. The major causes of pipeline spillages are corrosion, stress, etc.
Preventive maintenance practices on the oil pipelines consists of actions that will improve the
conditions of the pipeline systems for optimized performance and aversion of unwanted system
failure. A preventive maintenance system will be developed using the FMEA approach as
methodology. Keywords: Oil spillage, NNPC, pipelines, preventive ... Show more content on

Consistent oil spills from these pipelines constitute health hazards. Problem statement Currently
majority of NNPC s pipelines are poorly maintained and this is causing oil spillage as the pipelines
tend to rupture or leak when oil is being transported to the refineries. A ruptured or leaking pipeline is
very hazardous to the environment and leads to production loss for NNPC. From the most current data
released, NNPC lose 600,000 barrels of crude oil, which is about 28% of the 2.1 million barrels
produced daily with total worth of about $160 million annually (NNPC annual report). In a study
conducted on productivity of industries in Nigeria which also applies to NNPC, it was identified that
most of the causes of low productivity were due to lack of manager s unwillingness to maintain the
system effectively (Nwachukwu, 2006). Poorly maintained operation management activities result in
low production quality and quantity, low market share and low growth rate. In the case of NNPC s
pipelines, apart from low productivity, oil is spilled which has disastrous effects on the community.
Thesis statement The emphasis of this praxis will be development of a preventive maintenance system
for NNPC which will drastically reduce or eliminate oil spillage from the pipelines, reduce adverse
consequences of lack of a maintenance system like frequent oil spillage, identify optimal maintenance
practices that will prevent future leakages of oil pipelines and implementation of standard

Reflection Paper On Christmas Angels
Christmas Angels Christmas in the Chapel has been a huge staple in my childhood, and every year, I
ve looked forward to seeing the signing angels from my church Jefferson Street of from Lincoln
Christian Church. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade, and entered the
Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca,
Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. I was new to all
of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year); being afraid of heights did not
help at all.
The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from
falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as
pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was
over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who)
asked me, Are you okay?
I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to do it in
front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack? Thankfully, I
soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my heart pound; I
think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign for the very first
time.

Hard Times Sissy And Bitzer Analysis
In Dicken s Hard Times two characters Sissy and Bitzer are compared early in the novel. Dickens
comparison is used to further the theme that a person needs both fact and fancy to have a morally
developed personality. Dickens does this by portraying the effects of a life raised on only facts
compared to a life raised on a combination of fancy and facts. Later this comparison continues
showing how much Sissy has improved the lives of others, compared to Bitzer, who has ruined the
lives of others. By having Sissy represent a life of fancy and fact, and Bitzer represents a life solely of
fact than comparing the two Dickens is able to show the reader that facts may be nice to know, but
someone can not only have facts without fancy. This is seen

The Worst Mistake Of My Life
June 10, 2017, just a fun summer night, or that s what me and my cousin thought it was going to be.
Little did I know, that was going to be the worst mistake of my life. My dad was out of town for a rock
concert and my grandma was gone to help my Great grandpa because he had cancer. So that left us
with just our grandpa. Around 6 o clock my best friend called me and invited me and my cousin over
for a BBQ. He came to pick us up and i was told to be home around 12. As we all sat around the
picnic table outside laughing and having a good time, my friends parents went around taking everyone
s keys away, including the ones that weren t drinking. Even though no one would be able to get me
home when i was supposed to, that didn t stop me from drinking. Beer after beer and a few shots of
liquor here and there. I got a little too carried away and completely disregarded the time. One oclock
started to approach and we realized that we were going to be in BIG trouble if we didn t get home. We
sat there trying to figure out what we were going to do because we didn t want to have to call our
grandpa. It was around 1:30 when we finally made a decision, but we never expected that, that one
decision would change our lives. We knew we had to get home before my grandpa would wake up and
see that we still weren t at home. So we took it upon ourselves to walk home. We didn t really think
anything of it because my house was only a few blocks from my friends, but we seemed to have

from numerous failed attempts to befriend humans thus drives them into madness, turning their
friendliness toward mankind into hatred. The novels structures both depict characters that started from
naive, innocent beings, and transformed into ruthless monsters. In both Shelley s Frankenstein, and
Gardner s Grendel, the characters start off with kindness toward mankind, that when met with
rejection, inevitably results in frustration and violence.
In both novels, the antagonists began their lives as innocent creatures, ignorant to the outside world
and full of kindness toward mankind. Frankenstein s creation enters the world with the physical
abilities of a mature male, but the knowledge of a newborn demonstrated when he says I remember, a
stronger light pressed upon my nerves, so that I was obliged to shut my eyes. Darkness then came over
me, and troubled me. (Shelley, 92). The creature resides in an utter state of ignorance and naivety; a
state where one has no intentions to commit any treacherous task. Similarly, Grendel s state of
existence consisted of ignorance and naivety as well. During the novel, he reminisces about the early
years of his existence when he says I lived those years, as do all young things, in a spell. Like a puppy

I Have A Knife At Your Neck By Don t Make A Sound
I have a knife to your neck. Don t make a sound. Get out of bed and come with me. These are the
words that Elizabeth Smart heard as she was awoken on June 5, 2002. (Moses, 2010). At only 14 years
old, Smart was taken from her home, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was not found until nine
months had passed. Brian David Mitchell broke into the Smart s home and grabbed the youngster
from her room that she shared with her sister Mary Katherine. What Mitchell did not know was that
Mary Katherine was awake and saw the whole ordeal. The youngest daughter waited until she knew it
was safe to depart her bed and raced to her parent s bedroom. She s gone. Elizabeth is gone, Mary
disclosed to her parents, Ed and Lois. At first, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rewind to around 2 days before her kidnapping, Smart was in her class at church. Her Sunday school
teacher had preached a few things that she took to heart. If you will pray to do what God wants you to
do, He will change your life, he said. I pressed my dress again, my head down. I was listening
carefully to him now. I don t know what it was, but there was something in the way he said it, the
intensity of his voice, that made me realize that what he was saying was important. That day after
church, Elizabeth went into her closet to escape the loudness of her siblings and prayed. God, I m
here, I said. I m only fourteen. I know I m just a little girl. But I ll do whatever it is that you want me
to do. I really do want to serve you. But I m not sure that I know how. Elizabeth does not think what
transpired was something that God expected. He without a doubt would not have wished the anguish
and torment that she was going to experience upon anybody, particularly upon a young girl. But since
that time, I have learned an important lesson. Yes, God can make some good come from evil. But even
He, in all His majesty, won t make the evil go away. Men are free. He won t control them. There is
wickedness in this world. Which left me with this: When faced with pain and evil, we have to make a
choice. We can choose to be taken by the evil. Or we can try to embrace the good. (Smart, 2013).
Elizabeth woke up with her younger sister in a slumber adjacent to her,

Jamaica s representation as our host country is due in part to its yearning desire to attract more foreign
investment. Since 1998, the Jamaican government has liberated its market in hopes of attracting
foreign investors. By 2005, Jamaica created a Free Trade of Americans opening its borders and
relieving its trade barriers for U.S. products. Some tax incentives include the Tax Relief Act which
provides incentives to those who invest in infrastructure development and provides repatriation of
funds.

Why Overpopulation Is The Problem
Research physicist for the American Center for International Policy Studies, Gioietta Kuo, in her
article Mega Crisis? Overpopulation is the Problem describes the possibility of a global mega crisis, a
perfect storm of political, economic, and environmental instability resulting from overpopulation and
leading to the extinction of mankind (Kuo, 23). The purpose of Kuo s article is to stress the fact that
overpopulation has been over looked as the source of many of the problems afflicting the world today,
including climate change, food and water scarcity, environmental degradation, as well as other
economic and social effects like unemployment. She adopts logos, ethos, and pathos as well as an
urgent tone in order to persuade the United Nations, government officials, and the general public to
acknowledge the fact the current high population is the main cause of the problems affecting the world
today and also to stress that the unchecked population growth will lead to a mega crisis.
Kuo was spurred into writing this article by two events, the first was the publishing of an article titled
Global MegaCrisis: Four Scenarios, Two perspectives by William Halal and Michael Marien in May
June 2011. The articled also discussed the impending mega crisis but according to Kuo it failed to
include the one evil that is the mother of all others: world overpopulation (Kuo, 23). With this
statement she hopes to invoke the feeling of urgency and create awareness of the ignored source

Babe Ruth, Informative
Everyone has heard of the infamous Babe Ruth , but few people know that his birth given name is
George Herman Ruth, Jr. He lived from February 6, 1895 August 16, 1948, and was best known as
Babe Ruth and nicknamed the Bambino and the Sultan of Swat . Babe was an American baseball
player who spent 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) playing for three teams between the
years of 1914 1935. The most important points of Babe s life are his early childhood, his major league
baseball career, and the legacy that Babe left behind.
Ruth came from German American parents, Kate Schamberger Ruth and George Herman Ruth, Sr. His
parents owned a succession of saloons (bars) and sold lightning rods. Babe Ruth was one of seven

Babe s amazing pitching allowed the Red Sox to win the World Series again, four games to one. Ruth
extended his World Series consecutive scoreless inning streak to 29⅔ innings, a recorded that would
last until almost fifty years later. Inly July 1918, Ruth walked off the field due to a dispute with the
manager, a mistake that would soon lead him to be traded to the Yankees. However Ruth wouldn t go
out without a fight. Ruth placed a curse on the Red Sox for trading him to the Yankees. The Red Sox
didn t win another World Series until 2004 (86 years later).
On December 26, 1919, Babe Ruth was traded to the Yankees. Several reasons such as Babe s
negative attitude and his demand for a double in his salary led his trade to the New York Yankees for
almost $2mil (in now a days dollars). Babe would stay with the Yankees from 1919 1935. During his
career with the Yankees, Babe Ruth emerged from a pitcher, to an all star hitter. In 1920, Babe hit 54
home runs and his .847 slugging average would remain a Major League Baseball record for over 80
years. The best year of Ruth s career was 1921, hitting 59 home runs, batting .378 and slugging .846.
Ruth also hit a record high of 139 home runs on July 18, 1921. Ruth s name soon became synonymous
with the term home run. Babe s powerful home runs went as far as 575 feet from the home plate.
Unfortunately, due to an injury, Babe was not able to play in a majority of the World Series against the
New York Giants. This led to the

Arms And Weapons In Beowulf
Another example of weapons in Beowulf references to arms and armor, very accurate to the Anglo
Saxons traditional shields and weapons. Then Hrothgar s thane leaped onto his horse and, brandishing
a spear, galloped down to the shore; there, he asked at once: Warriors! Who are you, in your coats of
mail, who have steered your tall ship over the sea lanes to these shores? .... Never have warriors,
carrying their shields, come to this country in a more open manner. Nor were you assured of my leader
s approval, my kinsmen s consent. I ve never set eyes on a more noble man, a warrior in armour, than
one among your band; he s no mere retainer, so ennobled by his weapons. ... The boar crest, brightly
gleaming, stood over their helmets: superbly tempered, plated with glowing gold, it guarded the lives
of those grim warriors. ... Their byrnies were gleaming, the strong links of shining chain mail chinked
together. When the sea stained travelers had reached the hall itself in their fearsome armour, they
placed their broad shields (worked so skillfully) against Heorot s wall. Then they sat on a bench; the
brave men s armour sang. The seafarer s gear stood all together, a grey tipped forest of ash spears; that
armed troop was well equipped with weapons. .... in common we all share sword, helmet, byrnie, the
trappings of war. (Levick, 1) Anglo Saxon Honor Code Fighting was seen as something honorable and

Elitism In Government
The ability to compel another person to comply with one s intentions is known as power. Authority is
a form of power that takes its force from legitimacy, political authority that is assigned by the law or
the state through legal documents. The government is an institution that is based upon authority. There
are various ways in which authority can be conferred upon a governmental institution and many
opinions on how it should be used. Thomas Jefferson states that a good government should be
considerate of the people s needs, and should concern itself with protecting its citizens without
interfering with citizens personal affairs. According to this interpretation, the government must be
restricted in its authority, should act in the interests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a government such as Jefferson describes, majoritarian politics is most fitting. Majoritarian politics
generally occurs when the government considers issues important to the people. The people have more
power because pressure from the majority opinion is exerted on the leader. Meanwhile, elitism occurs
when public opinion is largely absent, giving leaders greater freedom to act in self interest. There are
several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes power as being in the hands of business leaders,
a view exemplified by the influence held by American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key
leaders in society control and are served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the
media and wealthy members of society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as the vessel of
power and hand behind administrative action, and may be exemplified by members of Congress, who
deliberate amongst themselves on matters that may concern the public; and the pluralist view, which
describes various powerful groups in government and politics as cooperating with each other while
being aware of the public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation
between various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows for more self
interest. Although a self interested government does not necessarily dictate that policies will be
unbeneficial for the people, it is on the whole detrimental and less restricted than the ideal Jefferson
held for government. A majoritarian government is best suited to Jefferson s idea of

Littering Ethos Pathos Logos

advertisement there is a saying littering says a lot about you which implies that people who litter are
lazy. The advertisement is meant to appeal to all people in todays society to stop littering. When
looking at the advertisement, people might think it is clever and witty, while others might think it is
rude and inappropriate to call someone lazy . I chose this advertisement as the artifact because I think
it best includes all ethos, pathos, and logos. The concept that this artifact is representing are the three

Ethos is at works in this advertisement because the company is using their own credibility to stop
people from littering by implying that they are lazy . Pathos is being used the most in this
advertisement because the company is grabbing the audiences attention by using feelings. Some
people feel angry while looking at the advertisement because they don t want to be considered lazy
if they drop a wrapper on the ground instead of in the trash. Some people feel sad while looking at the
advertisement because they don t think there should even be an advertisement to tell people not to
litter. The audience gets these feelings because the speaker, in this case the company, grabs the
audiences attention by telling them they are lazy. Lastly, logos is at work in this advertisement but it is
being used with the audience instead of the company. They must think about the topic that is being
presented in the ad and the reasoning behind why someone would make an advertisement about this

The Sports And Entertainment Organization
As an Executive in the Monumental Sports and Entertainment organization, I have been tasked with
the responsibility to analyze the upcoming culmination of our broadcasting contract with CSN Mid
Atlantic. Currently, we have a partnership with CSN for the broadcasts of the Washington Capitals and
Washington Wizards games. The Capitals contract is coming to an end after the 2016/2017 season and
the Wizards contract is not until after the 2020/2021 season. With all the specifics of the current
partnership in the favor of CSN s (Steinberg, 2014), our organization has reached out with them to talk
about restructuring our deal, but had no luck as of date.
Monumental Sports and Entertainment is an enterprise that showcases both sports organizations, the
Verizon Center venue along with multiple other ones. Monumental has also started a broadcasting
network which is relatively new. The Network utilizes the internet to distribute its content and
provides fans with all news in DC sports. It currently does not broadcast Wizards or Capitals games.
We have explored the option of broadcasting the games in house and through Monumental Network.
Majority owner of Monumental and both teams, Ted Leonsis expects that Monumental Network could
one day broadcast Caps and Wizards games, in addition to other local programming. Leonsis would
like to wait until Monumental is a little but more profitable because he is dealing with player
contracts, the Verizon Center venue and labor costs in his

Stravinsky Opera And Oedipus Comparison
The Stravinsky Opera directed by Julie Taymor, is a loose adaptation from the play Oedipus Rex
written by Sophocles. This film narrates Oedipus life and how the oracle affects his life. The fact that
Stravinsky Opera is a loose adaptation makes the film different than what we could imagine while
reading the original play, besides the film shows us that the director is able to see through situation,
interpret them and demonstrate how everything happened instead of making a summary of certain
moments like how Sophocles did in Oedipus Rex s play. On the other hand, the structure used by
Taymor in the film which implements costumes, actions and animals, helps the spectator to see
through situations in the film letting us know how the film will ... Show more content on

The Oedipus Rex tells us a summary of some moments in the play, skipping actions made by some
characters in the play and avoiding explanations of how certain situations happened. The Oedipus Rex
s play clearly explains that Iocaste (Oedipus mother) was found death in her room by one of the
messengers because she could not face the reality of being married with her own son who killed her
husband and took his place in tebas. On the other hand, the Stravinsky Opera clearly shows us how
Iocaste hang herself the moment after she steps out the scene when she was talking with his son and
goes to her room to kill herself with a white cloth. This clearly shows us that the author and director of
this opera had a great imagination in order to demonstrate what was not explained in the play;
moreover, the author indicates when everything happened and how did it

Immigration Issues in the News
H. R. 2604 (2012): Help Separated Families Act of 2013 is a Federal bill introduced by Representative
Lucille Roybal Allard, a Democrat in California s 40th District. After the introduction of this Federal
bill it was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means: 113th Congress, 2013 2015. The bill, (H. R.
2604) was introduced to the Senate floor as of Jun 28, 2013 (GovTrack.us, 2013). This bill would
ensure that immigration status alone does not disqualify a relative from being a placement for a child
whose parent (s) has been deported.
Understanding the Problem Immigration issues have been in the news; and have been debated by
politicians. Political parties over the years have been vocal in voicing their concerns about American
immigration (Russit, 2013). The problem is if you are an undocumented immigrant and you are
stopped by an arresting agency you will be detained and deported according to the current
immigration policy (Russit, 2013). Russit (2013) explains the judicial branch of our Supreme Court
has ruled over this issue for over four decades. They have determined the federal government has the
exclusive power of regulating immigration. These powers are based on the Commerce Clause,
Naturalization Clause, Migration and Importation Clause and the War Power Clause of Article I of the
US Constitution. The courts have ruled that any state or local law that attempts to regulate
immigration is in violation of the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution and is

Examples Of Magical Transformation In The Little Mermaid
The theme of transformation is very common in folk tales and fairy tales and has been a very
prominent motif throughout literary history. Hans Christian Andersen uses magical transformations in
several of his tales, most famously perhaps in The Little Mermaid , but also in stories like The Wild
Swans . This essay will focus on these two tales and discuss how they show magical transformation as
a means of giving hope and redemption. Magical transformation has been a key motif in storytelling
for thousands of years. The transformation is usually from human to something other; an animal, a
plant or some other natural object. Alan E. Knight says in Between Folk and Liturgy that this
transformation usually happens in a world where magic is not ... Show more content on

The Historical Accuracy of Henry V by William Shakespeare...
The Historical Accuracy of Henry V
Henry V, written by William Shakespeare, is by far one of his more historically accurate plays. This
play is the life of young King Henry V, who ascended to the throne after his father, Henry IV s death.
These times were much different for England, as Henry V was a noble lord whom everyone loved,
whereas angry factions haunted his father s reign. Shakespeare portrays a fairly accurate account of
the historical Henry V, but certain parts are either inflated deflated, or conflated to dramatize Henry V
as a character suitable for a Renaissance audience.

  • 2. Definition Essay-Peering Into Photography Peering into Photography Since its arrival in the late 1820 s, photography has become much more common and ubiquitous in our day to day lives. Due to its increased technological presence, our society, purposefully or not, has altered some of its fundamental values. While some of these changes worked in our favor, others resulted in a community that is significantly more divided and focused on the individual instead of the collective society. In a time when we should be working together to create a better future, we are instead significantly more concerned with ourselves and our image. As a result of our infatuation with photography we have altered the way in which we see ourselves and therefore, we have become more self conscious, self centered and conceded. Photography and the photographs they produced were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, many support the idea that the growing prevalence of such technologies has led to an increase in body dissatisfaction and body concerns (McLean). In allowing others to determine how we should feel or see ourselves, we are more and more passive in our lives and as a result, less active members of our communities. All in all, there is certainly a growing concern amongst our society about self image. We may be using external stimuli in creating these perceptions of ourselves but still, the fundamental topic of this conversation revolves around the individual, not the larger society they are a part of. Today, we are more self conscious and in a way, as a result of the endless amount of time we allow ourselves to be preoccupied by our own self image, each of us as individuals has become more self centered. The more ubiquitous this technology becomes, the clearer it is that many members of our society today, live in a highly anthropocentric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Biology Personal Statement The field of science and I do not have the lifelong love as many of the other STEM students at this school do. Throughout my entire elementary career, I hated science mainly due to the topics covered were heavily in the geology department. I can t say science runs in my family, in fact college doesn t even run in my family. It wasn t until my freshman year in high school I finally was given the opportunity to learn about molecular biology that science popped up on my radar of interest. I was hooked from my first honors biology class, however was still a bit apprehensive about being a biologist as a future career. Learning about the mechanisms at play in the body was interesting, but I always wanted to go in a more kinesthetic direction. I wanted to know how these systems were at work, and even more, how they could be harnessed to improve efficiency or to arrive at some other targeted mean. I hope to stay with the Garden lab for a period of my undergraduate experience, however, I am very interested in joining the Chet Moritz lab. The Moritz lab would be a rewarding combination, because it is an actual integration of the engineering of fabricated devises in tandem with the neurological system. I was also drawn to the molecular and cellular bioengineering program, because of its interdisciplinary nature that gives the students in the program a vast array of resources for their ... • 4. Bethune s Beach After The Readings Of Brooker T. Washington Bethune relocated to Daytona Beach after the readings of Brooker T. Washington inspired her to go with her vision and open her own school. Many people tried to discourage her to not to go to Daytona because the black laborers in the area lived in poverty much like slavery and the Ku Klux Klan would commit violent acts against anyone who tried to better African Americans. Her husband Albertus Bethune did not agree with her dreams and left her to return back to N.C. and they never got back together again. On October 3rd, 1904 Bethune opened the doors of the Daytona Normal and Industrial Institute for Negro Girls. Her rent was 11 dollars a month and she would charge the young ladies fifty cents a week for tuition. The local black community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They acted through their action to foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust. She also strengthens others by sharing power and discretion. Bethune knew in order for her vision to be successful she had to get the community engaged in the work she was going. She was able to have enough volunteers to clear the debris from the newly purchased land. She was able to beg for used bricks and other supplies for the new school house and she traded labor of the men for the tuition of their families. Bethune was never too prideful to ask for help she would give talks at hotels or her and the students would sing for the guest, she would even go from door to door to ask for money. She soon learned that a lot of rich white men and white women s societies supported the school. • 5. Dog Whistling Is A Term Used By Politicians Dog Whistle Politics is a term used by politicians to persuade the people by gaining their votes into a political position of power. Dog Whistling has been used for years by politicians to achieve what they want while campaigning for public offices. Politicians have been maneuvering and scheming for years during elections for the peoples vote. They have always put on a show for the people just to receive their vote. They set their sights on an office of public position and they begin a long and hard working race to gain votes. Dog whistling is just a different way for them to use codes or demonstrate to certain people to what they are really trying to say. Politicians portray a good and upright demeanor. It s part of their job. During their campaign for a specific position, they make promises to the people, they put time into well thought out and written speeches, they research every city and the population during the campaign tour and it is all to persuade the vast majority of people for their vote. It deals with race as well. Dog Whistling and racism seem to go hand in hand because it s dealing with race. Racism has been in politics for years. Dog Whistling is just a word used to speak to a certain group of people in code. Racism is still imbedded in us as people because we cannot treat each other equal. Some politicians use Dog Whistling as a way to speak to the mass of racism that is still current in today s society. The author in this book uses Dog Whistle Politics ... • 6. Raising Money in U.S. Stock Markets 1. Is raising money in U.S. stock markets more or less difficult than in the rest of the world? To start, using the article that is cited for the class is...well, dated at the very least. The United States has gone through at least a complete financial cycle since after the article was written. The tech bust and then the quickly following tragedy of September 11, 2001 with the ensuing market meltdown were just the beginning. Just to put it into perspective, During the last seven years, we ve had recession, 9 11, Rita, Katrina, two wars, the mutual fund scandal, the meltdown in subprime, Enron, WorldCom and Martha Stewart. According to Michael Arnow, director of financial planning in the Milwaukee office of SJA Financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it wise for a U.S. corporation to list its stock on foreign stock exchanges? What are the possible advantages and disadvantages of such a move? Listing on a foreign exchange brings the added risks of uncertainty of the US dollar, trade embargoes, trade tariffs, foreign service fees, an entirely different IRS reporting structure, and many other hurdles. If a company is big enough to have a financial management section headed by a CFO, then it should not be very difficult to list on a foreign exchange with enough program management. The advantages of listing of a foreign exchange include greater exposure, opportunities in foreign markets that might otherwise be unattainable, and higher profits. The disadvantages are much the same as in the setup; recurring foreign taxes, trade margin fluctuations, and other foreign trade barriers. Overall, an ADR or move to forward markets would, for a US based company, be a good move in the current economy. Exposure to foreign markets and currencies would translate back to higher profits. For companies outside the US, moving in would be a short term fiasco between the weakening dollar, but in the long run an excellent move because now is the time to get into the US on the cheap . In 2016, NASA s budget for space exploration is $18.5 billion and is projected to only increase in the coming years, in 2020 the budget is estimated to be nearly $20 billion. This budget is broken down into several different categories on where they are to spend money of the year; the categories are: Science, Aeronautics, Space Technology, Exploration, Space Operations, Education, Safety, Security, Mission Services, Construction and Environmental Compliance and Restoration, and Inspector General. • 8. Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay The phrase so it goes is repeated 106 times in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. From dead champagne to the massacre at Dresden, every death in the book is seemingly equalized with the phrase so it goes . The continuation of this phrase ties in with the general theme on indifference in the story. If the Tralfamadorian view of time is correct, then everyone is continuously living every moment of their life and dying is not the end. However, if Vonnegut believed in this idea, then he wouldn t have felt compelled to write about the firebombing of Dresden. It is clear that both Billy Pilgrim and Kurt Vonnegut are affected by the massacre they saw, but they have different ways of rationalizing it. Billy finds comfort in the Tralfamadorian view of life, whereas Vonnegut disagrees, and urges the reader to disagree too. The constant repetition of so it goes breaks the reader away from the Tralfamadorian point of view, and allows them to come to their own conclusion that although it would be nice to forget the bad parts of life, it is important to remember all of the past. Vonnegut helps the reader come to this conclusion by repeating the phrase after gruesome moments, and showing how meaningless life can be if the Tralfamadorian ideas are believed, as seen through Billy Pilgrim s bland life.. The first use of so it goes comes in the first chapter, while Vonnegut is talking in the first person. He met a cab driver who was a German soldier and said things were much ... • 9. Female Characters In Peter Pan The Repression of Female Characters in Peter Pan At first glance, J. M. Barrie s Peter Pan appears to be an innocent literary depiction of a young boy who wishes to never grow up thus, remaining a child. Peter Pan, the story s main protagonist, poses as the mischievous and youthful boy who spends his eternal life seeking adventures and leading the Lost Boys through the make believe island, Neverland. Peter acquires the company of a young British girl by the name of Wendy Darling and her two little brothers, John and Michael Darling. In the company of the British children, Pan travels back to Neverland to primarily utilise Wendy for her motherly expertise. Further inquiry and literary analysis of the 1904 novel leads readers to believe there is more to the story than what can be seen at first glance. Peter Pan is one of many novels subject to feminist literary criticism; the novel displays an array of male characters with very few female characters to contrast. Furthermore, female characters can be seen as passive, and frequently submit to paternal authority. In Peter Pan, women are assigned specific roles that mirror the responsibilities of those in the Victorian Era. The demeaning and gender stereotypical interpretation of women coupled with the encouragement of male dominance places the story under criticism for its subjugation of women. In essence, the female characters are subject to the gender stereotypes and societal norms of the Victorian era in which they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The State Of Texas County In Texas, each county is governed by a five member Commissioners Court, which consists of a County Judge (elected at large) and four Commissioners (elected from single member precincts). The County Judge has no veto authority over the decisions of the Court; they have one vote along with the other Commissioners. In smaller counties, the County Judge also performs judicial functions, while in larger counties their role is limited to the Court. Elections are based on the political parties, Democrat, Republican, Independent and sometimes Libertarian. Counties do not have home rule authority because their authority is strictly limited by the State. Texas counties, merely exist to deliver specific types of services at the local level as prescribed by state law, but cannot enact or enforce local ordinances. 254 counties make up the state of Texas. The Dallas metropolitan area is much larger, and is one of the fastest growing in the country. The 12 county Dallas Fort Worth Arlington (DFW) metropolitan area has a population of 6,985,579 and is expected to be 7,960,117 by 2020 (Texas Population 2020 Projections, 2014). Nearly one million new residents in the DFW metropolitan area will cause more traffic congestion, the need for new jobs and more housing. People normally like to live closer to their employers, so the areas with the best jobs will see faster population growth. • 11. Dan Sperber s Article The Future of Writing In Dan Sperber s article The Future of Writing, he assesses the presence of writing and reading in our society, as well as where it may lie in the future . He addresses the possible downfall of writing, the prevalence that reading will hold in our society, as well as how our society will adapt and handle the changes. He also covers the emergence of text to speech and speech to text technological advances, the effects on society and how the disappearance of the two of them will never fully occur. Sperber s main claim throughout the article is that writing, with the help of technology, may eventually cease to exist, or at least be far less prominent . While writing has obtained a unique and prominent standing in most places of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Sperber does stress that there is a strong difference between the writing and reading, and their relationship with technology. While he states that writing may completely be taken over by technology, the same could never be done to reading. Most particularly because the two are very closely linked, yet writing could never exist without reading. The benefits that are present with writing come mostly from reading, as well as with the fact that as you write, you read along with your words. Though writing may be replaced at some point in time, reading can never be replaced despite the text to speech technology. In particular, he addresses the impact that technology could have, and like writing it involves both speech and text, yet in the opposite order. This time technology would allow a person to listen to the text be read to them rather than having to read it themselves. However, Sperber suspects that this is much less likely than the latter, particularly because most people prefer to read and interpret on their own. They typically also do not enjoy the voice of the computer, and it is much harder to follow, especially due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Rise of the Norman Empire Hold the wall! shouted King Harold II as the Normans began to work their way past the Anglo Saxon shield wall. The Anglo Saxon empire reigned over London for its fair share of time before William the Duke of Normandy decided to take it from them. William was the son of Robert I and his wife was Matilda of Flanders. William was of Viking origin and he spoke French. King Harold II was ruler of London after King Harold I died. King Harold II was the last Anglo Saxon King of England. In the year 1066 a great battle took place that would change the way London lived forever. This battle was called The Battle of Hastings. When an individual first enters a chosen career, he or she is driven. If the work environment is not encouraging of the individual s efforts and concerns, the reality of the job and the individual s prospects begin to deviate and frustration and disappointment happens. (Kerri, 2014) These feelings can bring about job displeasure, resulting in decreased efficiency, loss of confidence and concentration, and behavior changes. If these circumstances are not addressed, stress accumulates and causes typical stress related symptoms. The definite stressors within the work environment that lead to stress and burnout can be different among occupations and between individuals within an occupation. The starting place of burnout is in the work environment, but because not every individuals working in a certain environment will experience burnout, personal risk factors must have a role in putting the individual at risk for burnout. Therefore, personality is another important factor to be considered. Jennings (2010) found that: Neuroticism has been associated with exhaustion. External locus of control has demonstrated a positive relationship with burnout and stress. Findings are mixed for hardiness. Evaluations of anxiety reflect a link with stress and burnout. All his services are done in school the occupational therapist, physical therapist, and speech therapy are done on a weekly basis. The written word during 400 800 AD came from educated citizens of the Roman Empire and their recount could be judgmental. Many historians are led to believe that Barbarians destroyed Roman and everyone suffered from acts of violence, a mass migration, disease, starvation, and this was the way of life for hundreds of years. Consistent oil spills from these pipelines constitute health hazards. Problem statement Currently majority of NNPC s pipelines are poorly maintained and this is causing oil spillage as the pipelines tend to rupture or leak when oil is being transported to the refineries. A ruptured or leaking pipeline is very hazardous to the environment and leads to production loss for NNPC. From the most current data released, NNPC lose 600,000 barrels of crude oil, which is about 28% of the 2.1 million barrels produced daily with total worth of about $160 million annually (NNPC annual report). In a study conducted on productivity of industries in Nigeria which also applies to NNPC, it was identified that most of the causes of low productivity were due to lack of manager s unwillingness to maintain the system effectively (Nwachukwu, 2006). Poorly maintained operation management activities result in low production quality and quantity, low market share and low growth rate. In the case of NNPC s pipelines, apart from low productivity, oil is spilled which has disastrous effects on the community. Thesis statement The emphasis of this praxis will be development of a preventive maintenance system for NNPC which will drastically reduce or eliminate oil spillage from the pipelines, reduce adverse consequences of lack of a maintenance system like frequent oil spillage, identify optimal maintenance practices that will prevent future leakages of oil pipelines and implementation of standard ... Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca, Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who) asked me, Are you okay? • 21. Comparing Frankenstein And Grendel s Rejection Rejection lies in a vast sea of confusion and mixed emotions. In both of the novel s, major characters Grendel and Frankenstein attempted to obtain companionship, but never succeeded. The frustration from numerous failed attempts to befriend humans thus drives them into madness, turning their friendliness toward mankind into hatred. The novels structures both depict characters that started from naive, innocent beings, and transformed into ruthless monsters. In both Shelley s Frankenstein, and Gardner s Grendel, the characters start off with kindness toward mankind, that when met with rejection, inevitably results in frustration and violence. In both novels, the antagonists began their lives as innocent creatures, ignorant to the outside world and full of kindness toward mankind. Frankenstein s creation enters the world with the physical abilities of a mature male, but the knowledge of a newborn demonstrated when he says I remember, a stronger light pressed upon my nerves, so that I was obliged to shut my eyes. Overpopulation is the Problem describes the possibility of a global mega crisis, a perfect storm of political, economic, and environmental instability resulting from overpopulation and leading to the extinction of mankind (Kuo, 23). The purpose of Kuo s article is to stress the fact that overpopulation has been over looked as the source of many of the problems afflicting the world today, including climate change, food and water scarcity, environmental degradation, as well as other economic and social effects like unemployment. There are several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes power as being in the hands of business leaders, a view exemplified by the influence held by American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key leaders in society control and are served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the media and wealthy members of society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as the vessel of power and hand behind administrative action, and may be exemplified by members of Congress, who deliberate amongst themselves on matters that may concern the public; and the pluralist view, which describes various powerful groups in government and politics as cooperating with each other while being aware of the public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation between various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows for more self interest.
