The Great Smokies By Daniel S. Pierce
In the book The Great Smokies From Natural Habitat to National Park, one can see the true passion
and application that the author, Daniel S. Pierce, holds for one of the United States most prized
possession, the Great Smoky Mountains. Like most, he is intrigued by the incomparable beauty and
thrill of the wilderness, with his main goal being to show that the propose of this national park isn t
just to protect undeveloped land but more to reclaim the wildness and all it stands for. He looks in
depth to the different land use of the smokies over time and the people who have called it home for
centuries with his lager focus on the movement to turn the Great Smokies in to the national park it is
today. The authors purpose is clear and concise. Pierce tells, in a factual tense but a semi narrative one,
the truths and rumors that surround the entirety of how the Great Smokies became more than just
wilderness and into a revered National Park. The chapter design is broken down in a timeline of how
the idea came into fruition and the eventual presidential decree and the challenges that approached the
construction of modern day Great Smoky Mountain National Park. In chapter 1 he begins with
Approximately eight thousand years ago, humans first entered the land now known as the Great
Smoky Mountain National Park and the final chapter starting with Welcome to Mankind! . Even the
chapter titles give small insights into what will follow in the chapters. The development, as previously

Summary Of The Land Use Act In Nigeria
In, The Land Use Act, 1978 author J.K Agbosu considers the role of the act in the context of class
relations in Nigeria. Namely, Agbosu (1988) argues that The Land Use Act, 1978, is a product of the
inherent contradictions of the colonial and neo colonial dependent, pseudo capitalist. economic
structures established in Nigeria since colonial times (1). Agbosu furthers this argument by proposing
that the reason that the act, is in part contradictory to the norms of everyday Nigerians is the failure of
legislators to look beyond their own classed perspectives and consider, [a] solution that not only
abolished private ownership rights in land but also abolished private ownership of other means of
production (1). Indeed, Agbosu takes a decidedly Marxist perspective in his analysis of the law.
However, the crux of the argument, which is that the post Colonial state offers its citizens no new
possibilities in its application of citizenship rights, is valuable to the discussion of democracy in
Africa. In his article, J.K Agbosu notes that the Land Use Act is in tension with traditional conceptions
of land within Nigeria. In the pre colonial era, in most societies, land was viewed as communal
property rather than a commodity; in other words, land was based around kinship ties. The purpose of
the Land Use Act is to divest communities, and their respective leaders, of their shared role in the
ownership of land and place it in the trust of the State. This shift in authority is not inherently unjust,
but as Agbosu notes the movement from communal to State ownership does not act the groundwork
for an equitable distribution of the land. Rather, the act seeks to impose a Western capitalist ideology
of land ownership upon indigenous peoples. This is evidenced in the displacement of poor Lagosians
in the 1990 destruction of the Maroko slum. The state government used the Land Use Act to legitimize
their claim to the communal land, thus, forcibly moving thousands of low income migrants. The
expropriated land was then given to a prominent and wealthy royal family; an action that would seem
to contradict the alleged purpose of the act, which was to benefit all Nigerians (Ehirim Capitalism
Central ). Moreover, while

Captain Durand Monologue
Days later, captain Durand begins the morning s routine by sorting the abundant mail, only he is not
awaiting any which would shed light on his cases for the good reason that a week ago, three letters
came on his desk, which were connected to at least one recent case, and oddly, to a rather old
investigation. All three had important information, but solely in regards to one of the victims,
Thibault. In fact, they established some strong suspicions and coincidences which in the end will
confirm is beliefs. From the letters, he learned of Thibault s peregrination, and a definite pattern
emerges: whenever Thibault works in a village, unfailingly, a young girl eventually is found dead,
killed in the same despicable manner, although, with consistency ... Show more content on

Neo Liberalism
Neoliberalism is the ability to globally trade, prosper and develop fairly and equitably among other
countries. Neoliberalism policies allow for countries to import/export goods and services, trade and
settle debts among countries. Neoliberalism policies stress privatization, export production, direct
foreign investment, and few restrictions on imports (Rowntree, Lewis, Price, Wyckoff, 2008). There
are several Latin American countries who are accepting the neoliberalism ideology; however, there are
some countries like Peru and Bolivia who are not embracing the neoliberalism philosophy. Recent
protests in Peru and Bolivia reflect the popular anger against trade policies that seem to benefit only
the elite (Rowntree, Lewis, Price, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For neoliberals, liberty is best preserved by a minimal state and economic utility best secured through
free markets ( Neoliberalism Deregulation, ).The concept of deregulation is not meant to eliminate
government from fraud, but rather reducing government control in the business, thus allowing more of
a free market.
Privatization is the idea that the government should transfer all government operated industries to the
private sector. These government owned businesses include, but are not limited to, banks, schools and
hospitals. Sell state owned enterprises, goods and services to private investors. This includes banks,
key industries, railroads, toll highways, electricity, schools, hospitals and even fresh water. Although
usually done in the name of greater efficiency, which is often needed, privatization has mainly had the
effect of concentrating wealth even more in a few hands and making the public pay even more for its
needs (Garcia, Martinez). One may argue that privatization is ineffective because it only benefit the
ones who can afford to purchase these government entities. However, according to The Latin
American and Caribbean Research Network Project, authors Alberto Chong and Florencio Lopez De
Silanes discuss the benefits of privatization. Overall, the empirical record shows that privatization
leads not only to higher profitability, but also to large

Choler The Global Burden Of Cholera
In the recent years, there are prevailing epidemic called Cholera in third world countries such as Haiti,
Viet Nam and Zimbabwe. It is estimated that 2.8 million cases and 91,000 deaths annually due to
cholera in endemic countries. Nearly, 11 million cholera cases occur in 2002 alone. The endemic
countries is usually a developing countries, which is at risk because they are lacking access to safe
water and sanitation facilities. The effected populations were mainly consisted of low income resident
and mostly live in the suburban area, where clean drinking water is not widely available. Dr.

Dr. Mohammad Ali paper pushes for the oral cholera vaccine that is more affordable for everyone by
presenting age and area specific to estimate cholera burden in endemic countries. Currently, there are
two pre qualified oral cholera vaccines that is effectively protected populations at high risk of cholera.
Dukoral is administered to adults and children whose is older than six and Shanchol s immunization is
given to baby whose age is less than one. By using literature searches and disease monitoring systems
such as (ProMED), to provide a detailed data that describing the outbreak. Unsurprisingly, the number
obtain by the ProMED data is about five times higher than the number reported by the World Health
Organization. However the research carry out by Dr. Mohammad Ali cannot be generalized because
for the three largest cholera endemic countries such as India, Indonesia and China, they only take in
account for the portion of population, who lacking access to clean drinking water and sanitized
facilities that had reported cholera.
The mortality rate for cholera is high if not treated immediately. Most developed countries in North
America, Europe has very low child and very low adult mortality due to high tech medical equipment.
In less developed countries, the mortality rate is tripped sometime even quadruple which is alarming.

Capitalism In Dubai Essay
Capitalism the new economic system which are cities moving to. Is it safe? Do the governments know
the disadvantages of the capitalism? Does the capitalism improve the city on the long term or it is just
a short term of illusionist growth? The capitalism has made huge noises that it is a good role to follow
especially with what Dubai had achieved in short time but, how about Dubai real heritage. Dubai
capitalism model is a huge mistake because it leads to inequality, support destroying the legacy and
cause unstable Economy. First of all, the biggest issue of the capitalism is the inequality and that is
why other cities should never copy Dubai. According to Roche,C.(2015), capitalism main idea is
monopolization because it is depends on maximizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nowadays, when anyone visits Dubai it is like visiting an international country with many
nationalities but without natives. Because Dubai where built by others which have been taking all over
the country now. Indeed, the percentage of natives in Dubai now is less than one percent which is
horribly so bad. Although, the late moving of the government to restore the heritage of Dubai the
culture and traditions of Dubai has been vanished already and reached Point of no return. And this has
too many negative things on the next generation. Also regarding the disappearing of the traditions and
the original culture Dubai heritage has been abandoned and natives now are forced to adapt with the
residents culture because the residents are the majority now. Also, all the natives are moving out from
their own town because Dubai has become a center for prostitution even though, the prostitution are

Dubai now is no longer owned by United Arab of Emiratis, it is owned by rich people and they taking

The Deployment Of Automation For An Automated Warehouse
Executive Summary The change from a manual warehouse to an automated warehouse is significant
and the impact of that change should never be under estimated. Even limited application of automated
technologies will have a dramatic effect on the processes used in the warehouse, the management
systems required to make it effective and on the people who have to adapt to accept its use. The
deployment of automation in warehouses, whether it is a fully integrated solution or an enhancement
to a manual technology, can bring competitive advantages to companies with benefits in staffing,
property or service. In staffing, we could have reduced costs, providing improved ergonomics and an
alternative to unproductive labor. Property includes saving on space, reduced facility size and reduced
costs. Service benefits include improved order accuracy, product security and condition, and lead
times. Also, if a service provider like Amazon wants to launch its Prime services in a developing
nation which hardly has any money for automation services, they would find it very difficult to fulfil
the customer requirements with their 2 day delivery system. This is because of the drawback of having
a manual warehousing. Speaking of manual warehousing, there are numerous issues related to labor
that a company might encounter in the long run. Probably the biggest driver is the ever increasing cost
of labor. Wages are spiraling downwards due to the financial crisis, but this may only be temporary.

Using Uniform Resource Locator ( Url )
Websites are made up of webpages each of which has its exclusive addresses called uniform resource
locator (URL). URLs direct users to get to a unique web page through web browsers. URL naming
and managing are considered two important issues as it is crucial for a webpage to have an accurate
address which appropriately represents content of the page and also generate helpful application in
web analytics. Protocol identifier, hostname, path or stem and parameters are core components of
URLs as they generate the frame of each URL. Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) is one kind of
protocols used to reach hypertext documents on the Net. Protocol and resource name, which is the

Additional information is gathered as campaign medium is added to the parameters as it provides extra
data such as email or cost per click (CPC). Campaign name identify a specific product, promotions
and etc. Campaign term is applied for paid keyword search. Campaign content is used to separate ad,
content or link, which refer to the same URL. The fact that the functionality of the page or its content
is not affected when extra parameters are added to the URL is crucial to know as parameters are
applied in web analytics tools such as Google analytics to get traffic source data. Web analytics tools
such as Sitecatalyst, Webtrends and Google analytics uses parameters differently. Sitecatalyst is highly
depended on page names than additional parts of URLs so parameters do not make further data.
Webtrends mainly uses hostname and path to identify pages, however, Webtrends is able to recollect
disregarded parameters when they are needed to separate unique pages. Google Analytics applies three
main campaign parameters which are campaign source, campaign medium and campaign name. In
Google analytics there is an option to have additional campaign such as campaign trend and campaign
content. URLs in Web analytics are of high importance as they define data strategy, cookies strategy,
sessions and etc. The domain segment the URL makes a mandate rule when it

Another, and possibly outlandish hypothesis, is in par with Chlamydosaurus kingii, and is usually

located in the southwest portion of Germany. In the modern age, Bavaria boasts distinct seasons, due
to its position in the continental climate zone. Commencing during the vernal equinox, precipitation
deluges Bavaria constantly, on the behalf of the rain shadow effect. The rain shadow effect prescribes
that mountains compel the air to ascend in order to journey above them. This results in air of a lower
temperature. Bavaria has an elevated mountain chain coined the Bavarian Alps. If the air mass is
traversing from west to east, the areas on the west (windward) side will receive the rain. Oppositely,
the areas on the east (leeward) side will reside with the torrid air, and receive little to no monsoon.
Contrarily, the climate in the Jurassic Period differentiated superlatively as it was moderately littered
with trees, abundant in invertebrates, significantly barren, semi tropical with tainted waters, and a
quaggy texture embodied the land. Germany 155 million years ago was mostly comprised of a balmy,
shallow sea, mottled with islands. Organism such as sponges and corals thrived in these seas,

Negotiation Process, Alternative And The Outcome
According to Rubin and Brown (1975), negotiation refers to a process in which individuals work
together to formulate agreements about the issues in dispute. Both parties should be interested to
communicate each other and generate the offer. An agreement will occur once the both parties accept
each other offers. There has to be several components that need to be matched between two parties
during the negotiation like their interest, process, alternative and the outcome (Neale Northcraft,
1991). Everyone is dealing with negotiation process in their life schedule in different forms like it may
be asking help with colleague for new project or it may be with your family members to reschedule
their off days so you can go out friends. It is very helpful to learn its tool and technique to get the
outcome we wanted. It is also very useful for me to learn negotiation tool and technique personally
because it helps you to deal with the different situation by using our own skills and abilities. It is not
only helpful for me doing sales relationship management at my work but also to develop my overall
leadership quality and influencing skills. Negotiation tool and technique is an important issue for
analysis and design of organizations because it plays an effective role in each stage of project in an
organization like preparation and planning, define the ground roles, clarification and justification,

Essay about Public Safety vs. Civil Rights
Public Safety v. Civil Rights
CJA 550
Crystal Shepherd
March 7, 2011
The argument of public safety versus civil rights has always been at the forefront of many major
political issues in the United States. Civil rights are the foundation of this country, and they protect it s
citizens. But with that, comes the protection of criminals, terrorists, and enemies of the state, and the
freedom for these people to move and operate against American ideals. The slightest restrictions on
civil rights increases the safety of the general public, enables law enforcement agencies to operate
more fluidly, and increases the rate for crushing the opposition.

Some of the countries and states still have the electric chair, firing range, and even the hanging squad.
One of the states that still had the electric chair was Nebraska. Nebraska, the only state with the
electric chair as the primary method of execution, determined on February 8, 2008 that it was cruel
and unusual punishment under the state s constitution, and the United States constitution. Prisoners are
no longer electrocuted in Nebraska, and now the state has no method of execution. A survey of experts
from the American Society of Criminology, the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, and the Law
and Society Association showed that the overwhelming majority did not believe that the death penalty
is a proven deterrent to homicide. (Radelet Akers, 1995) Gun Control: Amendment Violation or Public
Safety Concern The NRA argues that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees
individuals the right to own and carry guns. They are concerned that federal regulations will continue
to increase until owning a handgun will be difficult to achieve, infringing on their Constitutional
rights. They also argue that if law abiding citizens have guns, they are safer from criminals, bringing
crime rates down. The Brady Center, on the other hand, argues that the Second Amendment of the
U.S.Constitution does not guarantee individuals the right to own and carry guns. Further, they argue

Bosk Reading Error
Summary: The Bosk reading Error, Rank, and Responsibility is about the professionalization of
surgical residence in the United States. Whether the surgeon is a resident or an experienced attending,
in the process of performing any surgery, mistakes are inevitable. However, in the case of the
attending, the quantity and nature of the error should be less frequent than that of the resident. Among
the interns, the three most common errors are technical, judgmental, and normative; and among
attendings the quasi normative error is most common. Thus, a technical error is defined as any error
that is reported and treated immediately. When this does not happen, the interns level of training is
questioned. In the case of judgmental error, an incorrect

Outdoor Recreation and Park Management
In order for a national park to protect their natural and cultural values, it is crucial for managers to
effectively and actively administer protocols and regulations to safeguard the ecological integrity of
the park and to provide to visitors the service they desire. While managers attempt to resolve such
issues, they find themselves in a predicament where conflicting goals play a problematic factor. A
diversity of issues poses as threats to the flora and fauna, vegetation and landscape of parks within
Canada. Over the years, the ability to control fire, introduced plant life, losses of species, urbanization
and tourism have contributed to significant issues that managers face on a daily, weekly, monthly, and
yearly basis. Largely, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only are smaller provincial parks are immune to this issue but also parks on a larger scale national

3. Loss of Species / Increase in Fauna
The next issue to deal with is the introductions of species often unfavourably affect the native fauna
and flora. The newly emerged fauna can directly contend with indigenous fauna for breeding sites and
food. A possible harm that is negatively tied with the foreign fauna also introduced diseases, wide
spread of weeds and prey upon native species (Louda 1997). Introduced species include domestic and
feral cats, domestic dogs, foxes, rabbits, blackbirds and the common starling. This issue is not to be
ignored as it is deeply tied into the overall appeal of why tourist may visit a park.
4. Fire
One issue that should not go unnoticed for park management is the control of fire. The control of fire
both negatively (forest fires) and positively (fire regime) should be placed as a priority as it endangers
both human life and the ecological footprint of the park. Plant communities and their connected flora
and fauna have progressed over thousands of years under a natural fire regime. The use of fire has key
effects on ecosystems (Weber Stock, 1998). The effects of fire management may be advantageous or
undesirable, depending on the distinctiveness of the fire and the nature of the area burnt. Fires have
the possibility to cause soil erosion, alter stream flow

The Difference Between Film And Film Analysis
The Distinction Between Films and Novels Even though films and novels are equally important to
society, novels are greatly underappreciated. A film is a set of actions recorded by a camera that would
later be processed into a story. On the other hand, a novel is a narrative book that represents characters
and actions that might or might not have realism in it. Major studios are making millions off of movies
that are watched by people across the world (Box Office Mojo, 2016), while book publishers and
writers are not making as much (Dennis, 2014). There are several distinctions between novels and
films, including the age of those interested, profit, how the advancement of technology has affected
both, and the benefits, all of which will be discussed in this essay.

It was straightforward in the past because the only way to make revenue was through ticket sales.
However, studios are looking for new methods of making revenue due to ticket sales not being the
only way anymore (Zipin, 2015). This results in movies making much more money than they used to
in the past, sometimes even going up to billions of dollars. In comparison, novels only make a fraction
of that amount, with the exception of certain franchises gaining sudden popularity for one reason or
another. There are four different categories of publishing a novel (aspiring, self published only,
traditionally published only, and hybrid). Roughly 90% of the authors that publish their work to aspire

A Guard on Religious Freedom Essay
Persuasive Essay #1
A Guard on Religious Freedom
In the eyes of our founding fathers, few things seemed as important as the separation of church and
state. The first amendment grants all Americans the freedom to subscribe to any religion they wish and
promises that the government will not promote any religion above any other. Although the separation
of church and state and the freedom of religion are firmly and concretely secured in the Constitution
of the United States, events in the recent past bring to question whether this ideal is under threat of
losing its place as an American standard.
A recent controversy that brings to light the threat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to choose a battle wisely to not take away from future battle and maintain importance
on the battles deserving of a fight.
One such battle that is deserving of attention is the battle of prayer in school or the moment of silence
as a clever euphemism. To publicly bring attention to students with different beliefs is clearly a
violation of the ideals of our fore fathers. Not only does the moment of silence bring sensitive
differences to light but clearly presses on the issues of religion and possibly alienates religious
minorities.
Another such recent test to the separation of church and state was President Bush s public definition of
marriage and attack on homosexual relationships. Under the code of unethical, Mr. Bush attempted to
ban the union of two same sex members from joining as married. Although no Biblical scripture has
been presented as support for the proposed constitutional amendment, the disagreement with same sex
marriage can primarily be found in the religious fields or in area s traditionally known as religiously
dominant areas. Marriage is both an emotional as well as contractual union of individuals. To prevent
the union should require the backing of evidence that appeals to more than the fickle nature of the
public.
When arguing for the importance of the maintenance of the separation of church and state, it is
important to focus on

Western Medicine Versus Traditional Medicine

Position Paper: Western Medicine versus Traditional Medicine
The Limitations of Traditional Medicine from the Needs of the Society
In this time of modern technologies, we have found new ways of treating and curing disease.
However, traditional medicine that was derived from old cultures is still available. Some people still
prefer this kind of method, but some stick to conventional one which is the western medicine.
Western medicine is related to scientific method and emphasize measurable biochemical processes
that drive disease, treatment and health. It relies on new modern technologies to alleviate disease and
cure symptoms ( knowledgewharton , n.d.)

It can also help in controlling infectious disease. Modern advances have developed effective drugs for
managing heart disease, like diuretics, beta blockers and hypertensive (Jamison,2006). It can easy
alleviate the symptoms and discomfort of the patient so he/she can live normally. But also, it can also
use procedures to understand the underlying cause of the symptoms to cure or prevent. Advanced
medical devices can locate the problem through x rays, blood tests, etc.( benefits ,n.d.). Western
medicine is also flexible, you can store it in your household while traditional medicines can t ( debate ,
2011). The medicine is also specific for a certain illness.
When it comes to the asurance, and time,it is better to use the more improved and advnced one. It is
more convenient to use, easier, and more effective. Although, traditional medicine is an impressive
method too, it is still has some limitations. But one thing that could be better for the society, is the
incorporation of herbal plants into our modern medicines.

Water Treatment Systems Should Be Banned
Many people in the United States, and in other parts of the world, take water for granted because all
they have to do it turn on a faucet. More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation,
and hygiene related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world. (Adams
2003) What if clean, drinkable water was available to those people? Water is needed to produce crops;
it is also needed to hydrate people to keep them alive as well as feed animals. Water treatment systems
can be used to take contaminated water, like that which is found all over the world in rivers and lakes,
after it is run through a treatment system the water is lacking contaminates and drinkable.
The product that I have decided would benefit not only my business but also the world would be my
father in law s water treatment business. The knowledge and ability of his company to take
contaminated water, that you would not want to handle with gloves let alone drink, run it through his
treatment system make it clean and pure is something that parts of the world desperately need. Using
the four utilities of customer value, I can demonstrate why marketing these types of systems could be
beneficial and lucrative.
Form consists of everything the manufacturer has to put into a product (White 2012). Form utility

Garcinia Cambogia
Garcinia cambogia extract is a weight loss pill that was advertised by Dr. Oz during a segment on his
daytime talk show. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer
interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained
that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the
fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more
promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The
active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme
which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving
for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with
potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during
the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent
as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended
population. By allowing the audience to ask questions that Dr. Oz answers on the spot, viewers are left
with more confidence in the product. Dr. Oz specifically manipulates his language with the objective
to entice women, referring to weight loss as a decrease in dress size. Dr. Oz conveys a sense of

Bendectin Case
Their conclusions were based upon in vitro (test tube) and in vivo (live) animal studies that found a
link between Bendectin and malformations; basically that the chemical structure of Bendectin was
similar to other other substances known to cause birth defects; and the reanalysis of previously
published epidemiological (human statistical) studies. In neither essence the submitted documents
were never published nor peer reviewed articles demonstrated a link between Bendectin and birth
defects. Merrell Dow had introduced evidence that no epidemiological study ever performed had
concluded that the use of Bendectin by pregnant women significantly correlated with the incidence of
birth defects in those women s children (Atikian, 1994 p.1516). ... Show more content on

the passengers died, and others were seriously injured. A diversity suit was brought against the tire
maker, Kumho Tire Co., and its distributors, claiming that the tire was defective. Rule of Law: Federal
Rules of Evidence (FRE) Rule 702 gives the district judge discretion to determine reliability of
evidence in regards to the circumstances and facts of a particular case. Dennis Carlson Jr. testified as
an expert witness for the petitioners as a tire failure analyst, intending that the tire s manufacture or
design caused the blow out. Whereas his opinion was based on visual and tactile inspection of the tire;
upon this theory this sort of tire failure was the result of a defect and not tire abuse. The petitioner s
moved to exclude Mr. Carlson s testimony on the ground that his methodology failed to satisfy Federal
Rules of Evidence Rule 702. The District Court granted the petitioner s summary judgment motion
arguing that in examining the factors set out in Daubert v Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals. Inc. Mr.
Carlson s methodology is not reliable. (Kumho Tire Co., 2015). The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals
reversed, held that the District Court erred as a matter of law in applying Daubert, and held that the
Daubert factors did not apply to Mr. Carlson s testimony. (Kumho Tire Co., 2015). Judge Stephen
Breyer delivered the opinion for the United States Supreme Court holding that the Daubert factors
may apply to the testimony of engineers and other experts who are not scientists. The District Courts
decision to not admit Mr. Carlson s expert testimony was lawful because it found his methodology
unreliable after appropriate examinations (Rule 702,

Thesis For Nickel And Dimed
A Journey Too Extreme In Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich proclaims that while on a mission
to experience the struggles in the everyday life of the poor, she will never be able to fully understand
what it s like to be in that situation. Throughout her journey, she comes across many different people
and job opportunities, making for a different outcome every time. Although there was variation of
variables, her response to troubling situations was always the same: giving up. For example, while she
was working in a restaurant in Key West, she decided to quit her job as a waitress after being yelled at
by her supervisor. The same day, she quit a housekeeping job due to the low pay $6.50 an hour. In
another instance, she quit her job as

Ezra Pound Modernism

Ezra Pound: The Father of Modernism
Ezra Pound has been deemed one of Poetry s most important contributors. (Remembering Poets, 1).
T.S. Eliot and Donald Hall both believed Ezra Pound to be the biggest influence on poetry of his time.
(Poetry.org, 1). He was dedicated to his work, and from a young age, until his death in 1972, he
worked tirelessly, creating poetry that some deigned controversial, whether aesthetically or politically.
Those who did not find these controversial, the critics, the public, were too scared to read his works.
Pound however, never let any of this keep him from continuing to pursue his dreams and do what he
loved, writing poetry. Instead, he concentrated on advancing his art and maintaining his standards with
his aesthetics, while speaking out against these naysayers, showing them that he was not intimidated
by his adversaries.

Comparing The Fall Of The House Of Usher And Ligeia
The Fall of the House of Usher, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and Ligeia, there was an affinity
between the many characters of each one of the stories. There were also many other analogies in the
books so far as a situation, plot, setting, etc. In the story The Murders of the Rue Morgue, which is a
very mysterious story, the main action commences when the narrator and another man named C.
Auguste Dupin meet together because they are seeking for the same book at an ambiguous library in
Rue Montmartre. The two men read about a murder in a newspaper headline, then one night they re
staying at a hotel and hear a shriek from about the fourth floor above them in which they call the cops
in backlash to that. Once the cops had broken into the apartment, for the door was locked, they found
what seemed to be a murder scene for all of the blood and the hair on the floor.
The police officers and the other two men react to the scene of what seems to be death by acting
concerned about finding what had happened and who it had happened to and who committed the
crime. In the story The Fall of the House of Usher it all starts with the character under the name
Roderick approaching a house which seems to be described as an evil feeling, for it is in a type of a

Because the cops knew that they would either see or meet death on their job before they took that job.
And with Roderick and his sister, Roderick knew his sister would soon die from her disease and there
was nothing he could do about it. In both stories the characters coped with the death of honest people
fairly unexpectedly for most reactions to death that are seen in the modern day. Edgar Allan Poe s
stories usually included death, which I kinda found weird but it continues to make the story

Personal Worldview: Initial Statement
I believe we as human beings have distinguishing characteristic that we passed down to one another
since the beginning of time. Things such as the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we act. It
s what we use to provide what we receive as normal when we are judging how best to live amongst
our peers and as individuals. Human Nature is the tool we have used since the first human being was
crated and placed upon this earth. It is the tool we are all born with that directs us in the decisions we
make whether they are wise decisions or bad choices. Human nature is who we are as a species.
Human nature is why today s society is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So basically everything is left up to the individual. This was a bit much for me to grasp or even try
understanding. I am a Christian and stand firm in my belief in God and what awaits me in the afterlife.
I know and trust in the bible when it tells me that I will be held accountable for all that I do that is
immoral and sinful. My only salvation is to pray for forgiveness and repent. I believe that when I meet
my maker I will be fully aware of what is going on and although my body, the keeper of my soul, will
be no more: I will. I do not believe that I will become a part of nature or this force that pantheists
speak about. I know that I am not God. I am a product of God made in his image.
I found the New Age Movement to be a very interesting worldview. At times it had me scratching my
chin at the different concepts that they boast to be true. In the end and with further research I realize
that they too fall short of Christianity. There is just no way the world will be able to run without any
guidance and if we could govern ourselves then we would all be living in a state of peace right now.
Unfortunately we are not and it is because the world has laid down their bibles and picked up
pamphlets of other hogwash that has blinded them to the way of the bible. There is only one true God
and way to salvation. I continue to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and God the creator. With all the
worldviews I have come in

Universal Social Policy
Citizen views in the United States have been ever changing. Our, American, views on welfare and
what it means to have a welfare state have been changing as well. As Theda Skocpol describes in,
Social Policy in the United States, the Social Security Act of 1935 was our first form of universal
social policy. This victory came after unsuccessful attempts at creating a form of old age pension.
There are a lot of similarities between policies, during the New Deal and Post War area, particularly
roadblocks. In a time of regulation, both the United States and Britain were creating policies in
response to growing demands from those in the industrial sector. Many of these demands could be
addressed through reshaping, in some cases, creating new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many in the United States feel that they should not be paying for others, however the intention is not
to pay for others, but more so create a social safety net that anyone can fall onto if need be. Efforts to
fight poverty in the United States have been ongoing, the means of which the nation should address
and aid the situation is controversial for some. In the creation of the New Deal policies and Social
Security, there was an inherent racist nature behind the opposition for comprehensive and universal
policies. The idea of a form of social security went against the beliefs some had against big
government. Because of this, many approached social policy with the mentality that because the
market regulates itself, there should be no form of government intervention for when the market goes
into crisis. We know this to not be true because of continual regulation of the market, either by
government or business at the end of the day, those who can afford to save themselves from crisis can
do so and those who cannot are left to the demise of the market. Many argue that health care is an
economic argument, I am not stating that it is not, but after looking at policy history, oppositions seem
to be rooted in the social and

The Significance Of Strategic Bombing Of Germany
In this essay I will assess the significance of strategic bombing of Germany. I will do this by
evaluating four key areas of the German war effort. This will include German and British moral,
German economy, its effect on the outcome of the Eastern Front and the results of the preparation for
D Day. Overall allied bombing did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the war as for the
majority of the war bombing techniques and technology were primitive and so had little effect. It only
became a threatening tool latter on in the war, when the allies had effectively won.
One potentially significant area of impact caused by strategic bombing was its effect on German
moral. This is because it was expected to terrify and shock the German ... Show more content on

This panic combined with the bombing of a single rocket research station was enough to make the
Luftwaffe chief of staff, Hans Jeschonnek, commit suicide. The devastating effect of these events was
amplified by the fear of an invasion of Germany, due to the Allied forces landing in Normandy and the
Russians approaching from the East. However, because of the unreliability of bomber commands
performance the Nazis managed to quickly control the situation. They ensured that no photographs or
news reports were published from the bomb stricken reports meaning that the rest of Germany could
only gather information from stories and tales. On top of this only a small part of Germany was
bombed as the allied forces simply did not have the technology to reach the majority of the Reich.
That it was relatively easy for the country to regroup, resulting in heavy retaliation and a continuous
growth in German production. However, in the last years of the war bombing technology drastically
improved and the attacks were relentless. As opposed to less than one quarter of bombs dropping
within five miles of the target, each bomb now hit their target and inflicted maximum damage due to
new aiming technology. Bombing raids were now performed twenty four hours a day, in the night by
Bomber Command and in the day by the heavily armoured bombers in the American 8th squadron.
1,500 bombers were now available after a huge increase in production speed, each with the

Dulce Et Decorum Est Effects Of War
Wilfred Owen s anti war poem Dulce et Decorum Est graphically illustrates the negative experiences
of war. From the death to lack of basic supplies Owen s poem relays the conditions of the thousands
who fought in the front lines during World War I. The last four lines sums up the message Owen is
attempting to make to the public you have been told it is sweet and proper to die for one s country ,
but it is not these are the atrocities faced by those fighting for you and they are not something that is a
wanted experience.
To fully experience the poem the reader must first understand two things: the historical events
occurring at the time the poem was written, and the poem that the Latin words Dulce et decorum est

(The present simple plunges is again nicely ambiguous, so that we cannot really tell whether the
repetitions were at the time, or since, or both.) My conclusion would be that, insofar as the poem
suggests or accommodates such a reading, it also can seem to broaden and deepen its grasp, even so
far as to acknowledge covertly that the deepest, complicating iniquity of war is that its events can
dispossess one of one s best self, dividing oneself from oneself and others and overwhelming one s
most humane of responses toward pity and truth (Hughes 4).
Owen is haunted by his man who was not able to get his gas mask on in time to avoid the harmful
effects of the gas that was used in the war. By not being able to help the other soldier Owen feels as if
he is somehow responsible because he did not help the man as he was plunging for Owen s mask. The
last stanza describes the comrade s face as he lays in the wagon dying from the gas. This stanza also
leaves the reader something to think about in regards to the cost of

A Summary Of Order On City Public Spaces
Because of the post fiscal crisis decades of the late 20th century in city of New York, The mayoralties
of Ed Koch, David Dinkins, Rudy Giuliani all saw a multipronged campaign to impose order on cities
public spaces, usually by ridding them of the homeless, squeegeemen , protesters, and sundry other
urban undesirables who made the life unpleasant for white middle class and upper classes, the
attraction of whom was increasingly seen as the key for the urban economic revival It was into that

an increasing inequality of economic resources in the neighborhood. In the images, all of the existing
neighborhood was intentionally erased by the rendering and presenting as barren buildings which can
be prompted by increasing circulation. This strategy of moving undesirable in the urban space and, in
so doing, help reclaim space for development was underway in Chelsea which was known as West

  • 2. The Great Smokies By Daniel S. Pierce In the book The Great Smokies From Natural Habitat to National Park, one can see the true passion and application that the author, Daniel S. Pierce, holds for one of the United States most prized possession, the Great Smoky Mountains. Like most, he is intrigued by the incomparable beauty and thrill of the wilderness, with his main goal being to show that the propose of this national park isn t just to protect undeveloped land but more to reclaim the wildness and all it stands for. He looks in depth to the different land use of the smokies over time and the people who have called it home for centuries with his lager focus on the movement to turn the Great Smokies in to the national park it is today. The authors purpose is clear and concise. Pierce tells, in a factual tense but a semi narrative one, the truths and rumors that surround the entirety of how the Great Smokies became more than just wilderness and into a revered National Park. The chapter design is broken down in a timeline of how the idea came into fruition and the eventual presidential decree and the challenges that approached the construction of modern day Great Smoky Mountain National Park. In chapter 1 he begins with Approximately eight thousand years ago, humans first entered the land now known as the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the final chapter starting with Welcome to Mankind! . Even the chapter titles give small insights into what will follow in the chapters. The development, as previously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of The Land Use Act In Nigeria In, The Land Use Act, 1978 author J.K Agbosu considers the role of the act in the context of class relations in Nigeria. Namely, Agbosu (1988) argues that The Land Use Act, 1978, is a product of the inherent contradictions of the colonial and neo colonial dependent, pseudo capitalist. economic structures established in Nigeria since colonial times (1). Agbosu furthers this argument by proposing that the reason that the act, is in part contradictory to the norms of everyday Nigerians is the failure of legislators to look beyond their own classed perspectives and consider, [a] solution that not only abolished private ownership rights in land but also abolished private ownership of other means of production (1). Indeed, Agbosu takes a decidedly Marxist perspective in his analysis of the law. However, the crux of the argument, which is that the post Colonial state offers its citizens no new possibilities in its application of citizenship rights, is valuable to the discussion of democracy in Africa. In his article, J.K Agbosu notes that the Land Use Act is in tension with traditional conceptions of land within Nigeria. In the pre colonial era, in most societies, land was viewed as communal property rather than a commodity; in other words, land was based around kinship ties. The purpose of the Land Use Act is to divest communities, and their respective leaders, of their shared role in the ownership of land and place it in the trust of the State. This shift in authority is not inherently unjust, but as Agbosu notes the movement from communal to State ownership does not act the groundwork for an equitable distribution of the land. Rather, the act seeks to impose a Western capitalist ideology of land ownership upon indigenous peoples. This is evidenced in the displacement of poor Lagosians in the 1990 destruction of the Maroko slum. The state government used the Land Use Act to legitimize their claim to the communal land, thus, forcibly moving thousands of low income migrants. The expropriated land was then given to a prominent and wealthy royal family; an action that would seem to contradict the alleged purpose of the act, which was to benefit all Nigerians (Ehirim Capitalism Central ). Neoliberalism policies allow for countries to import/export goods and services, trade and settle debts among countries. Neoliberalism policies stress privatization, export production, direct foreign investment, and few restrictions on imports (Rowntree, Lewis, Price, Wyckoff, 2008). There are several Latin American countries who are accepting the neoliberalism ideology; however, there are some countries like Peru and Bolivia who are not embracing the neoliberalism philosophy. This includes banks, key industries, railroads, toll highways, electricity, schools, hospitals and even fresh water. Although usually done in the name of greater efficiency, which is often needed, privatization has mainly had the effect of concentrating wealth even more in a few hands and making the public pay even more for its needs (Garcia, Martinez). One may argue that privatization is ineffective because it only benefit the ones who can afford to purchase these government entities. • 8. The Deployment Of Automation For An Automated Warehouse Executive Summary The change from a manual warehouse to an automated warehouse is significant and the impact of that change should never be under estimated. Even limited application of automated technologies will have a dramatic effect on the processes used in the warehouse, the management systems required to make it effective and on the people who have to adapt to accept its use. The deployment of automation in warehouses, whether it is a fully integrated solution or an enhancement to a manual technology, can bring competitive advantages to companies with benefits in staffing, property or service. In staffing, we could have reduced costs, providing improved ergonomics and an alternative to unproductive labor. Property includes saving on space, reduced facility size and reduced costs. Service benefits include improved order accuracy, product security and condition, and lead times. Also, if a service provider like Amazon wants to launch its Prime services in a developing nation which hardly has any money for automation services, they would find it very difficult to fulfil the customer requirements with their 2 day delivery system. This is because of the drawback of having a manual warehousing. Speaking of manual warehousing, there are numerous issues related to labor that a company might encounter in the long run. Probably the biggest driver is the ever increasing cost of labor. Wages are spiraling downwards due to the financial crisis, but this may only be temporary. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rain shadow effect prescribes that mountains compel the air to ascend in order to journey above them. This results in air of a lower temperature. • 21. Water Treatment Systems Should Be Banned Many people in the United States, and in other parts of the world, take water for granted because all they have to do it turn on a faucet. More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world. (Adams 2003) What if clean, drinkable water was available to those people? Water is needed to produce crops; it is also needed to hydrate people to keep them alive as well as feed animals. Water treatment systems can be used to take contaminated water, like that which is found all over the world in rivers and lakes, after it is run through a treatment system the water is lacking contaminates and drinkable. The product that I have decided would benefit not only my business but also the world would be my father in law s water treatment business. The knowledge and ability of his company to take contaminated water, that you would not want to handle with gloves let alone drink, run it through his treatment system make it clean and pure is something that parts of the world desperately need. Using the four utilities of customer value, I can demonstrate why marketing these types of systems could be beneficial and lucrative. Form consists of everything the manufacturer has to put into a product (White 2012). Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended population. By allowing the audience to ask questions that Dr. Oz answers on the spot, viewers are left with more confidence in the product. Dennis Carlson Jr. testified as an expert witness for the petitioners as a tire failure analyst, intending that the tire s manufacture or design caused the blow out. Whereas his opinion was based on visual and tactile inspection of the tire; upon this theory this sort of tire failure was the result of a defect and not tire abuse. The District Court granted the petitioner s summary judgment motion arguing that in examining the factors set out in Daubert v Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals. Inc. Mr. Carlson s methodology is not reliable. (Kumho Tire Co., 2015). The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals reversed, held that the District Court erred as a matter of law in applying Daubert, and held that the Daubert factors did not apply to Mr. Carlson s testimony. (Remembering Poets, 1). T.S. Eliot and Donald Hall both believed Ezra Pound to be the biggest influence on poetry of his time. (Poetry.org, 1). He was dedicated to his work, and from a young age, until his death in 1972, he worked tirelessly, creating poetry that some deigned controversial, whether aesthetically or politically. Those who did not find these controversial, the critics, the public, were too scared to read his works. Pound however, never let any of this keep him from continuing to pursue his dreams and do what he loved, writing poetry. Instead, he concentrated on advancing his art and maintaining his standards with his aesthetics, while speaking out against these naysayers, showing them that he was not intimidated by his adversaries. Comparing The Fall Of The House Of Usher And Ligeia The Fall of the House of Usher, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and Ligeia, there was an affinity between the many characters of each one of the stories. There were also many other analogies in the books so far as a situation, plot, setting, etc. In the story The Murders of the Rue Morgue, which is a very mysterious story, the main action commences when the narrator and another man named C. Auguste Dupin meet together because they are seeking for the same book at an ambiguous library in Rue Montmartre. The two men read about a murder in a newspaper headline, then one night they re staying at a hotel and hear a shriek from about the fourth floor above them in which they call the cops in backlash to that. Once the cops had broken into the apartment, for the door was locked, they found what seemed to be a murder scene for all of the blood and the hair on the floor. The police officers and the other two men react to the scene of what seems to be death by acting concerned about finding what had happened and who it had happened to and who committed the crime. Human Nature is the tool we have used since the first human being was crated and placed upon this earth. This was a bit much for me to grasp or even try understanding. I am a Christian and stand firm in my belief in God and what awaits me in the afterlife. I know and trust in the bible when it tells me that I will be held accountable for all that I do that is immoral and sinful. My only salvation is to pray for forgiveness and repent. I believe that when I meet my maker I will be fully aware of what is going on and although my body, the keeper of my soul, will be no more: I will. I do not believe that I will become a part of nature or this force that pantheists speak about. I know that I am not God. I am a product of God made in his image. In the end and with further research I realize that they too fall short of Christianity. There is just no way the world will be able to run without any guidance and if we could govern ourselves then we would all be living in a state of peace right now. Unfortunately we are not and it is because the world has laid down their bibles and picked up pamphlets of other hogwash that has blinded them to the way of the bible. As Theda Skocpol describes in, Social Policy in the United States, the Social Security Act of 1935 was our first form of universal social policy. This victory came after unsuccessful attempts at creating a form of old age pension. There are a lot of similarities between policies, during the New Deal and Post War area, particularly roadblocks. In a time of regulation, both the United States and Britain were creating policies in response to growing demands from those in the industrial sector. Efforts to fight poverty in the United States have been ongoing, the means of which the nation should address and aid the situation is controversial for some. In the creation of the New Deal policies and Social Security, there was an inherent racist nature behind the opposition for comprehensive and universal policies. The idea of a form of social security went against the beliefs some had against big government. Because of this, many approached social policy with the mentality that because the market regulates itself, there should be no form of government intervention for when the market goes into crisis. We know this to not be true because of continual regulation of the market, either by government or business at the end of the day, those who can afford to save themselves from crisis can do so and those who cannot are left to the demise of the market. I will do this by evaluating four key areas of the German war effort. This will include German and British moral, German economy, its effect on the outcome of the Eastern Front and the results of the preparation for D Day. Overall allied bombing did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the war as for the majority of the war bombing techniques and technology were primitive and so had little effect. It only became a threatening tool latter on in the war, when the allies had effectively won. One potentially significant area of impact caused by strategic bombing was its effect on German moral. This panic combined with the bombing of a single rocket research station was enough to make the Luftwaffe chief of staff, Hans Jeschonnek, commit suicide. The devastating effect of these events was amplified by the fear of an invasion of Germany, due to the Allied forces landing in Normandy and the Russians approaching from the East. However, because of the unreliability of bomber commands performance the Nazis managed to quickly control the situation. They ensured that no photographs or news reports were published from the bomb stricken reports meaning that the rest of Germany could only gather information from stories and tales. On top of this only a small part of Germany was bombed as the allied forces simply did not have the technology to reach the majority of the Reich. That it was relatively easy for the country to regroup, resulting in heavy retaliation and a continuous growth in German production. However, in the last years of the war bombing technology drastically improved and the attacks were relentless. As opposed to less than one quarter of bombs dropping within five miles of the target, each bomb now hit their target and inflicted maximum damage due to new aiming technology. Owen is haunted by his man who was not able to get his gas mask on in time to avoid the harmful effects of the gas that was used in the war. By not being able to help the other soldier Owen feels as if he is somehow responsible because he did not help the man as he was plunging for Owen s mask.
