Causes of the Salem Witch Craft Trials
Since there never was a spurned lover stirring things up in Salem Village, and there is no evidence
from the time that Tituba practiced Caribbean black magic, yet these trials and executions actually still
took place, how can you explain why they occurred? The Salem Witchcraft Trials began not as an act
of revenge against an ex lover, as they did in The Crucible, but as series of seemingly unlinked,
complex events, which a paranoid and scared group of people incorrectly linked. And while there were
countless other witchcraft trials, Salemî–¸ trials remain the best known. In Salem, fears of witchcraft
perpetuated by popular writings were personified when two girls were said to be bewitched. A hysteria
overcame the people of Salem, whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That Little Betty Parris was sick, and that the Dr. Griggs (who was too proud to say that he could not
diagnose Little Bettyî–¸ illness) claimed she was bewitched (Richardson 7), were enough reasons for
court authorities to suspect witchcraft was the cause of the illness. In addition, several young girls in
the village had participated in 弎lack magic?experiments ?harmless adolescent games ?in the
company of Tituba, Reverend Parrisî–¸ slave. The restless young girls allegedly met in Parrisî–¸ shed,
and created and listened to Titubaî–¸ incredible tales of sorcery and black arts, which were doubtless an
outlet for their repressed feelings. Soon, faulty cause and effect relationships sparked delirium. When
the girls had fits of hysteria ?seizures, trance like states, and sacrilegious screaming ?Parris called
upon his colleagues to exorcise the demons that possessed the girls. Ministers from nearby
communities met in Salem Village 懀o lead a public day of fasting and prayer, and to question the
afflicted girls about what had caused their disturbing behavior?(8). Occasionally, the girls went mute
or blind, choked, had muscle spasms, and had visions of frightening spirits. They claimed that evil
spirits ursued them, threatening, biting, pinching, pricking, and performing other bodily injuries?(8).
After that, public concern became mass hysteria. Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborne, were
arrested and tried. Only Tituba confessed to signing the Devilî–¸ book.

Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology
In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and
technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or principle of
giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in today s society.
Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic. Cell phones,
personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been created with the
intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier fashion. Devices are
customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While these devices have
contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures, especially in the United
States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This becomes extremely
apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones continually disrupt the
cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the frequency of use on these
personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered. Interpersonal skills are important
for a culture to thrive and to be successful. It is unknown what kind of effects technology will have in
the long run towards face to face communications and interpersonal relationships. The science fiction
book series, Divergent, has an interesting solution for what happens when societies let technology

Sir Robert Peel Review
American policing has been around for years and is extremely likely to be around for hundreds of
generations to come. Very early policing and punishments could include public humiliation and even
torture. Times have changed since the beginnings of police tactics now it is incredibly uncommon to
see public humiliation due to a crime. American policing has changed multiple times over the past
hundred plus years. In most eyes the changes have been for the best of the policing system, trying to
establish a concrete system. The policing system has developed overtime into a professional position,
preventing crime, using the police ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The police officers that went into the public had to meet certain qualifications. The officer had to act
in a professional manner while in the public. Theses officers were even tempered and did not lash out
quickly with violence physically or verbally. These officers were trained to be a well mannered, in
control of oneself, and respectful officer. After gaining respect of the citizens Sir Robert Peels next
major task was preventing crime and establishing authority.
Preventing crime was the primary purpose for Sir Robert Peel and his associates. In order to prevent
crime the London Metropolitan Police Act needed to be approved by parliament. In 1829 the act was
passed and Sir Robert Peel took advantage of this. This created a full time uniformed police agency
that would patrol the city with the effort of preventing crime from happening. With the public now
respecting officers and officers patrolling the streets that every citizen walked on the police officers
eventually gained a form of authority in the public. This authority came with the training for the job
and the citizens recognizing that the officer is there to help and prevent crime. United States
development of a formal policing agency came from
Sir Robert Peel and what the London Metropolitan Police have become. The law enforcement in the
United States developed in the early years of colonization. The colonies took what the English was
doing and developed their own system

Economic Changes In Early Modern Europe
Eve Orbach

October 22nd Economic Change in Early Modern Europe
The Early Modern Period of Europe was a time of vast change in the economy due to the Price
Revolution, multiple wars and extremely high taxes, the Peasant Revolts, and the discovery of new
lands during the Age of Exploration. During the Early Modern Period there were no classic examples
of the average European citizen because of the unique religion, climate, population, etc, of each
region. The one similarity that all Europeans shared was that they were all going through significant
economic change (even though most of the Europeans were unaware of this). In Europe during the
sixteenth century, the large majority of the population either lived and worked on small towns or farms
(about %90). Manors, the Church, and the government took usually more than half of what the
peasants farmed (the taxes from the peasants had a big role in supporting the power of the state).

Gold and silver were mainly mined from Potosi and Mexico. Because there was a lot of money
circulating, people who were selling items were able to charge more for what they were selling
because people were willing to pay (or had to pay) more money in order to get supplies. The inflation
of prices caused the wealthy to become even wealthier (the Price Revolution gave many the
opportunity to accumulate more wealth), and poorer citizens to lose a lot of money because they had
to pay the inflated prices. During the Price Revolution countries started to engage in Mercantilism,
which is when countries would import more goods than they would export. Mercantilism is based on
the belief that there is a certain number of specie that is circulating, and when one country gains
specie, another country loses that specie. Mercantilism helped countries become more self sufficient

Dental Sealants Essay
Dental Sealants Caries Risk
Dental sealants are used to fill pits and fissures on the occlusal, or chewing, surfaces of the premolars
and molars to help protect them from carious lesions and tooth decay ( Dental Sealants , 2016).
Posterior teeth that are selected for placement of sealants are either newly erupted, when occlusal
surface is deep and irregular, and have a history of dental caries (Wilkins, 621). So it is very
important, especially for children, to get sealants placed as soon as their molars erupt in order to lower
their risk for childhood caries. However, there are many factors that have caused children to be
withheld from radiographic screenings and treatment; one major factor is parents not being able to
afford the treatment. But, one thing that has helped many children get sealants placed is a school
sealant programs; funded by the Centers for Disease Control. The CDC has supported for the
placement of sealants along with other oral health care activities in many states, including South
Carolina. In South Carolina, school sealants programs have been helping save high caries risk teeth

There are many factors that can cause caries such as xerostomia, diet high in sugars, low
socioeconomic status, and inadequate daily oral hygiene, affecting both children and adults (Wilkins,
621). I also learned that there are sealant programs where dental hygienists volunteer their time to host
these programs by providing services such as placement of sealants, radiographic screenings,
prophylaxis, application of topical fluorides, and oral health care and treatment free of charge for
children who come from low income households (Collins, 2016). Another thing I learned was that the,
incidence of new pit and fissure caries can be lowered by 86% if the sealant is retained at 1 year,
78.6% at 2 years, and 58.6% at 4 years (Wilkins,

Jean Bartik ( 1994-2011 ) Journey Towards Computer...
Abstract
This research paper mainly focuses on Jean Bartik (1994 2011) journey towards computer
programming and her great contributions, works and her experience from the work to this computer
world.
Introduction [1]
Jean Bartik, Born on 1924 in Missouri and named as Betty Jean Jennings. As all her family members
were professionally teachers she is good at education and she opted for mathematics as a major from
Northwest Missouri State Teachers college. At that time she was only the student who selected
mathematics as a major with different courses like calculus and Astronomy. She is accompanied by
another student and several other students who were in naval training for some other different courses.
She used to perform well in studies from childhood. As she opted for different mathematics courses
than others, special professors were appointed to teach her the particular courses she opted. She is
only the student to be majored from mathematics from that college.
Professional Carrier [1]
After Completion of her under graduation she applied for a job in IBM and applied for a computer job
in Moore School at University of Pennsylvania. Computer is a term used as a position like professor ,
scientist , programmer . At that time World War 2 was going on and there is a need for army to
calculate the trajectories for firing tables of guns. These trajectories were used to help the soldiers how

strategies. Researchers have identified number of different factors that influence consumer buying
behavior. Retail environmental factors is one of these factors. This literature review seeks to identify
the retail environmental factors that influence consumer buying behavior. The structure of this
literature review is as follows. Firstly, the review describes the search process for the relevant studies.
Following this, the review then explains the studies thematic analysis. Finally, the review provides an
overall discussion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, a manual search was conducted in order to find other relevant studies and, from this
process, 2 studies was found relevant. Overall, 9 studies were included in this review.
Thematic analysis
After a process of individual analysis of the selected studies, the articles were grouped together
according to recurrent themes that emerged from the findings. In this literature review, three major
themes were identified which include; window displays, music and shop crowding.
Finding
Window displays
In relation to window display, three studies reported that there is a positive relationship between
consumers buying behavior and window display (Ali Hasnu 2013, Karbasivar Yarahmadi 2011 and
Tendai Crispen 2009). According to Ali Hasnu (2013, p.7) consumers buying decision is influenced by
the physical attractiveness of store displays. Consumers develop their first impressions by the store
displays which emotionally attract them to the product and buy that product (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.7).
Similarly, Tendai Crispen (2009, p. 107) reported that attractive window displays increases sales as
consumers purchase unplanned products. Moreover, the finding of Karbasivar Yarahmadi (2011) study
indicated that window display has strong effect on encouraging consumers to buying more and
enjoying their shopping time. In order to trigger shopping among consumers, store managers must
ensure attractive store displays (Ali Hasnu 2013, p. 7).

The Significance of Death and Sex to William Shakespeare
The Significance of Death and Sex to William Shakespeare
In this essay, I will consider Death and Sin in Shakespearean drama and I would like to look at three
of Shakespeare s tragic plays: Hamlet , Othello and King Lear .
Shakespeare uses many themes in all his play that attract audiences throughout history. The things he
wrote about are as relevant now as they were in his time. Death and Sin were issues that are always
around. In his plays, Shakespeare could comment on these things and make audiences see things that
they could not before.
In Hamlet, we can see clear examples of Death and Sin as significant to Shakespearean drama.
The first thing that points to both death and sin is the inclusion of a ghost in the play. ... Show more

Claudius is the cause of a death and therefore also the committer of a sin, and having committed
incest, he is guilty of two sins. The cause of the revelations on Claudius character as revealed by the
ghost make him a hated character in the play by the audience. There is normally a character that the
audience know everything about, giving cause for them to hate him, and Claudius is Hamlets hated
Character.
Religion in the 16th Century was still a prominent issue. Religion had changed from Catholicism to
Christianity, depending on which monarch was on the throne at the time. People were expected to
change religion depending on what their monarch said or face being an outcast. In Elizabeth s reign,
the religion changed from Catholicism to Protestantism. Being unsure of religions myself, the
definition in the Collins pocket dictionary is as follows:
Protestant: n 1 follower of any of the Christian churches that split from the Roman Catholic Church in
the sixteenth century. Adj 2 of or relating to such a church. Protestantism n
In the Ten Commandments, written for the Christian faith, there are some elements that must be

The Importance Of Human Relationship For Both Kai And Tamili
1) The duty to protect the well being of Kai versus importance of human relationship for both Kai and
Tamili. I chose this as the ethical problem because it seems as though Kai could use some help with
her well being. She has a lot on her plate with being in a strong recovery from bi polar (I) disorder, her
husband being deployed for the four time to Iraq, she has had suicidal ideation two within the past
month, trying to take on a new job as a principal, and in sessions she becomes stressed very easily and
shuts down. I ve noticed when Kai gets stressed in family session Tamili will get very angry. Kai
being stressed could be causing Tamili to act out in school and receive bad grades. This is why I chose
the importance of human relationship as the other problem. Kai and Tamili have bonded very well but
with Kai being so stressed lately it could be affect Tamili s performances at school. Tamili has been
bulling others at school, has low grades, and is being very disrespectful to her teachers.
2) a. I would want to ask Kai s close friends and family how she is currently handling life. With her
fiancé being deployed, with the possibly of become a school principle and Tamili not preforming well
in school. Asking the person who is mentoring Kai for the school principal position how Kai seems to
take on the workload. Is Kai stressed when more work is given to her, does she take on any work troth
at her to distract her from other things. I would then want to ask Kai how Tamili is

Last Flight by Amelia Earhart
February 9, 2017
For so much of our history as a people, we are often reminded of the many successful men that
accomplished things to make this world a better place. We are reminded about their long, devastating
journey to reach their goals and maintain their prosperity; however, not once do we hear of their wives
or female siblings. In the early 1900 s it was still presumed that this was the role of the man. A woman
from Kansas, however, rose beyond the clouds of prejudice her name Amelia Earhart. Determined and
hard working, this woman set on surpassing the limits previously placed on women, and in her book,
Last Flight, Amelia Earhart fought the many odds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On April 8, 1931, she set the altitude record by flying 18,415 feet. On January 11, 1935, she became
the first person to fly across the Pacific from Honolulu to Oakland (Earhart 89 93). All this was done
during a time and place where people lossed their jobs, and the economy was bad. Unemployment rate
almost tripled between 1930 and 1933 as it jumped from 8.9 percent to 24.9 percent. Americans relied
on Earhart s successes as national achievements and viewed them as encouragement through all of the
unrest of the great depression. It was a signal that while America s economy was still weakening, the
country s spirit to accomplish was still strong. It was also a symbol that the American dream was still
active and that, at least in some way, those who worked hard would be compensated. Her
accomplishments proved to the world that women were equal, and lifted America to the center stage of
civil rights.
In conclusion, the book Last Flight, by Amelia Earhart, portrayed a critical moment in American
History; traditional viewpoints were challenged, aviation became ingrained in the American culture,
and women became major players in the American Dream. Amelia Earhart s accomplishments have
jarring similarities to Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space, orbiting the earth forty eight
times. She put the previous four American astronauts all male to shame with their combined total of

The book s plot and characters are original and interesting, from the concept of White Witches and
Black Witches to the uniqueness of its main character Nathan, and while the pacing of the story can be
quite slow, this assists the ability the book has to make the plot easy to understand, which is also
achieved through the simple narration of the story from the first person point of view of the illiterate
Nathan. The novel is also appeals to teenagers and young adults of all interests, as it the story is filled
with action and violence yet has little bits of romance in between, coming together to form a book
categorized by fantasy. Overall, Half Bad would be a fantastic book to read for SHS due to these
factors, after all, it is a record breaking novel... literally. In 2014, Guinness World Records awarded
Half Bad with two titles for its rapid translation into over 45 different languages before publication:

Do Rights Exist For The Agency Worker Case Study
Do rights exist for the agency worker? The Regulations have been a slow burner as the Directive was
first drafted in 2002, with the possibility of the draft never evolving. The length of time for the AWR
2010 to be passed emphasises the struggle for the agency worker to obtain the rights within the UK as
well as Europe. Despite opposition from British government, other Member States initially supported
the Directive. This can be extracted from how the agency worker is viewed as a cover piece, and is
only considered from a business perspective, rather than another type of worker who should have
more, if not equal rights, to those there on a permanent basis. This gradual development (or lack of
development at the time) benefited the end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reiterates the above, demonstrating that the Member States were complacent where the rights of
the agency worker were concerned, and how vulnerable the agency worker was within the work force.
These types of workers have always been left unclarified, it provides employers with a scapegoat to
terminate, or employ, an agency worker without the same implications that are attached to a
permanent employee from day one. The theoretical theory of the agency worker gives the
understanding that they are expected to cement over the cracks and cover the duties of others that are
on long term leave, for example maternity. The agency worker is a rapid solution to rush another body
into the work environment. This impacts the career development of the agency worker, questioning
the high quality of work and the satisfaction they receive. The chance to progress and be selected for
internal promotions would be limited and once the assignment was completed, the agency worker
potentially would no longer be required. It subconsciously brackets certain groups such as young
school leavers, working mothers and older workers into committing to this type of employment, due to
the beneficial features it potentially has for the individual . It is a fine balance between flexibility and
security for both the agency worker and the end user, both key concepts for both contracting parties.
Arrowsmith (2009 ) supports the expressed

Simple Distillation and Gas Chromatography The objective of the lab was to purify compounds that

There was no distillate in the distillation head after 20 minutes on the setting of 40 so the Variac

was 87.437% to 12.563%. The second fraction was collected between 47.3°C and 40.5°C. 88.429% to
11.571% was the ratio of hexane to octane for this fraction. The third fraction was collected at 30.6°C,
and the ratio of hexane to octane was 94.957% to 5.043%. The contents of the conical reaction vial
were placed in a fourth vial and a chromatogram was obtained for it. The ration of hexane to octane
was 7.501% to 92.499%. During the collection of the three fractions, a piece of the glass pipet broke
off into the distillation head. The results of the experiment could have been incorrect because the
glassware was not properly cleaned. The distillate also could have collected too fast which would have
lowered the separations efficiency. From this information, infer that hexane has a lower boiling point
than octane because most of the distillate was hexane. The majority of what was left in the conical
reaction vial was octane because the temperature was not hot enough to turn it into a gas to go into the
distillation

Marketing Plan For The Local Grocery
Philadelphia, another metropolitan area with its share of struggling neighborhoods, has tried to find
success by partnering with Food Trust. In 2012, the local grocery, Olivares signed up for a program
run by The Food Trust, a regional advocacy group that gets funding from a variety of public and
private sources. The Food Trust provided money and expertise, sprucing up the store with a new
refrigerated display case, awning, vegetable kiosk, as well as signs throughout directing customers to
the healthy eats (Hargreaves, 2015). The Trust provides training on how to handle and fresh produce
such as not storing the bananas next to the apples, as apples give off ethylene, which rots the bananas.
In addition, the Trust gives advice on how to sell produce, like never letting just a few pieces of fruit
linger at the bottom of a big box, as well as training with ordering and book keeping (Hargreaves,
2015). Since partnering with Philadelphia s health department in 2010, the Trust has done varying
degrees of renovations on over 200 stores. A full on conversion like Olivares cost about $60,000

The Battle Of The Woods Lived A Village Of Warriors
Deep in the woods lived a village of warriors that had long fought to keep their lands clear of the wolf
menace, but to no avail. It seemed to the villagers that there was a stalemate between them, or perhaps
the wolves had grown accustomed to the taste of their blood and were finally bored with them. The
killings became sporadic and less frequent, to the point where eventually the warrior culture began to
deteriorate. The magic that was instilled in every villager was fading, their innocent blue eyes
remained. Without killing, their eyes were never stained with death and a pair of brown eyes was a
rare sight here. Wolves were now just fairy tales told to children to keep them from straying too far
into the woods. Such was the case with the Faraway girl, whom people simply called Red. She donned
a blood red cape wherever she went because it was a family heirloom handed down to her by her
mother. Every Faraway woman for ten generations had worn the cape and kept it in the most
immaculate condition. When they would wear it the people of the village always called them Red
instead of their given name, it was tradition. Some of the older villagers knew a story of a great
warrior who wore a cape like it. They say it was made of the blood of one thousand wolves, their
deaths woven into the magic fabric. This was the same story that was told to Red when she asked her
grandmother why she had one brown eye and one blue. She told her, One of our ancestors was said to

Benjy is the first narrator out of four in William Faulkner s The Sound and the Fury. He is unable to
speak, so his story is told through his thoughts and memories. Despite Benjy s mental limitations he is
the most illuminating and most important narrator in the novel, as Faulkner intended. His memories
reveal more in the story than any other narrator because he is able to remember without concealing
information. Faulkner uses Benjy s narration to build a foundation and pretense for the novel, creating
a puzzle for the reader. Benjy is mentally retarded and has no sense of time, leaving the Compson

how many voices and opinions are involved in everything Benjy does and how much he is around the

crucial to the actual situation, he was in the room listening. Benjy s credibility as a narration is often
reduced because of his limitations, however he continually adds to the novel s background and grows
as a character. Roggenbuck explains how he grows throughout the novel:
Critics also cite Benjy s frequent use of the verb go as an example of his limitations, but in this, too,
Benjy changes as he grows. Though as a child Benjy does often use went to describe his motions and
the motions of objects and people around him . . . by 1928 he more frequently and habitually settles
for went and went away to describe how things move, signaling both his increased passivity and his
diminished involvement with people or objects not immediately present.

better appreciate what you are reading. Memory helps us to link one story to another, letting us have a

some aspects, similar. Symbols let us better understand what the real theme is; is The Lord of the Flies

The Education Of All Handicapped Children Act
Introduction
Historically schools have been allowed to exclude children, especially those with disabilities.
However, the recognition of educators to implement change where students with disabilities are
concerned has certainly come to the forefront of ethical responsibility with the passing of the
Education of All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA) in 1975 now known as the Individuals with
Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA). Before EAHCA many states allowed schools to exclude
children with disabilities from their mandatory attendance laws. Furthermore prior to EAHCA it has
been estimated that 4,000,000 children with disabilities in the U.S. did not receive the necessary
support and accommodations in school, with another 1,000,000 that ... Show more content on

In addition, Evans claims that the district failed to provide the right of due process by failure to
convene an impartial hearing within 45 days of her request in violation of 34 C.F.R. 300.512(a). In
addition, Frank had the right to have a proper IEP at the start of the school year that included a
statement of disability, Frank s present level of educational functioning, strategies to evaluate progress
and including Frank s teacher as part of the IEP team for evaluation. Finally, the district failed to
provide personalized instruction with sufficient support services to permit Frank to benefit
educationally from that instruction (Evans v. Board of Education of the Rhinebeck Central School
District, 930 F. Supp. 83 S.D. YH, 1996).
Major Principles of IDEA
Under IDEA there are 6 major principles. According to Frieden (2003), Chairperson for the National
Council on Disability, the first major principle is Zero Reject. Under this rule schools must educate all
school aged children as they have the right to be educated and included in a system of free appropriate
public education (FAPE). What this includes is the removal of physical barriers that impede access to
schools; there must be procedures in place that address behavior problems; and support services must
be continued even in the event of suspension or expulsion from school. Finally, each

Long Walk And Freedom By Robert Nelson Mandela
Long Walk to Freedom , released in 1995, is a biographical story about the revolutionary and former
South African President Nelson Mandela. The book narrates how Mandela becomes a remarkable
leader in the construction of a democratic South Africa. It chronicles his early life, growing up,
education and his 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country s
segregated society. Mandela begins his book with a description of his ancestry and later goes on to
talk about his early childhood, which mainly consisted on herding cattle and practicing a traditional
southern South African type of martial art. When Mandela became of age, his father sent him to
school, which was a rare privilege for a child in his village. Mandela transcended at school and his
uncle decided to invest on Nelson s school success by sending him to a series of exclusive boarding
schools.
In the following sections of his biography, Mandela describes his young adulthood and his gradual
metamorphosis into a leader of South Africa s freedom and equality movement. As a young adult,
Nelson moved to Johannesburg and became an active member in the African National Congress
(ANC), an organization dedicated to fight for the rights of black South Africans. Mandela joins the
ANC s Youth League; a subgroup that advocated similar, but more radical ideals than the main
organization, in which he adopted a leadership role.
Unfair racial laws had ruled South Africa for a long time, but the

which make the company become more competitive. Meanwhile, it s a good opportunity for the

Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self
In this modern day world people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think they
mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are identity,
and self. Identity to me is similar to social scientist phrase presentation of self , and what that means is
how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that are
constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self
which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the family struggle with
knowing their self, and identity. The family begins as middle upper class materialistic people in
California that are nameless with a sense of family unity, and self worth. Eventually transforming to
isolated, exhausted, loss souls having to wear ID numbers on their collar (p. 24). Starting off with the
father which is a very symbolic character since he is only spoken about in memories, and letters. Even
so far away his family describes him as loving, caring, and warm hearted. The children would say Our
father, the father we remembered, and had dreamed of, almost nightly, all through the years of the war,
was handsome and strong. He moved quickly, surely, with his head held high in the air. He liked to
draw for us. He liked to sing for us. He liked to laugh (p. 132). All to show that to them he was

Developing a Service Brand Using the Service Mix

In such service industries as Telecoms, IT, Banking and Insurance, Hospitality etc, customer service is
the rule and personnel that can deliver on this value are king.
Process
Closely related to People are a number of processes essential to achieving effective customer
satisfaction. These are the systems used in assisting an organization to deliver the services it offers
efficiently to the market. In all, whatever process an organization has on ground, it must be influenced
by the core essence of its operations, which should be consistent and competitive value driven service
delivery.
Daily, the service processes of service organizations are being restructured to ensure the delivery of
the very best value possible, and meet the ever improving standard, relevant to the industry involved.
For example, the process that allows you to obtain an efficient service delivery in a bank would differ
from the one that is in place at a holiday resort; and this would also differ from the one that is on
ground at a transport organization or an airline, and definitely different from those that cater to your
culinary needs at a fast food joint.
Even within the same industry, the processes employed for service delivery could differ significantly
from one competitor to the other. For example, the process in a fast food eatery like Chicken Republic
is not the same you get at a

Sceptile Controversy Blame
by BlameTheBlax One of the biggest causes of debate when it comes to Pokémon is which starter to
choose from. Usually, people will simply choose the one that they like the most, however, there are
those who aim only for the most competitively viable. So when Pokémon Sun and Moon came out
with Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio, there was bound to be controversy over which one was the best.
Sometime later, we received the leaks of the starter final evolutions. While the masses shrugged this
off as yet another fan concept, I personally found the art to be far too detailed to be entirely fake. Lo
and behold, a month before the game s official release, the demos were subject to datamining and we
found that the leaks were actually valid. While I m unsure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gives it plenty of wiggle room for balancing out stats, but if I were to decide them, it would look
something like 70/105/70/100/70/120. This gives it enough defense to take one or two weaker hits, the
speed to outpace the majority of Pokémon it ought to in order to prosper in competitive, and the attack
to actually do some damage with every hit. As for hidden abilities, there are countless possibilities
with this. My list of ideas is based off of abilities that are somewhat likely, so with that said, here they
are: Sniper, Levitate, Technician, Infiltrator. Sniper is an obvious choice, personally I wouldn t like it,
but I could imagine the benefits if it gets Focus Energy. Levitate is also fairly obvious, why would we
have a bird that can t fly? Empoleon makes this idea redundant, not to mention Grass resists Ground
anyway, but never complain about immunities. There s also how Ghosts can levitate, but this holds
much less weight due to Pokémon like Golurk and Aegislash. Technician would actually be very
intriguing, since Hidden Powers would be boosted and it could run Shadow Sneak with the boost,
assuming it gets it. Lastly, Infiltrator would be interesting. While it may not be the best competitively,
the ability to ignore Screens and Substitutes is awfully rare and would make Decidueye become even

Meeting Of The Minds Project
Personal Reflection Paper Prior to the Meeting of the Minds project, at the beginning of the semester,
I did not think this course on would have much of an effect on me. However, as the weeks went by, I
began to have a different idea of what it meant to be a critical thinker, and I quickly realized how
important it was for me to embody the definition of this type of thinking. As the school year
progressed, I found myself analyzing my perception of the topics friends and family discussed from an
outsider s perspective. While I used to think of myself as a critical thinker, this class made me evaluate
how good I am at analyzing different subjects and whether I actually reach good educated conclusions.
When finding claims to research, I realized how important it is to be educated on different subjects,
regardless of whether it affects one directly or not. Since I have an interest in the medical field, I chose
to find a claim that pertain in one way or another to medicine. Additionally, since I wanted the claim
to relate to patient care, I decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, I believe this skill will help me have a more comprehensive view on a wide array of
topics because it will allow me to strengthen my position by evaluating how apt is the evidence
presented. In addition, this project has reminded me of how important it is to be informed on different
issues that may or may not come to affect me. Along with this, I have also become cautious of how
authors or speakers portray their stance on a subject, and whether or not they are biased, and as a
result, I believe I now can reach educated conclusions. Thus, all these new acquired skills have
allowed me to become a better critical thinker, for these have given me a more open minded
perspective that helps me not only in other subjects, but also in the real

Media Influence On Marijuana
Whether by exit/entrance, in person, internet, or telephone, over time, political polls have been used
by mass media outlets to strategically create interest groups and objectively measure public opinion.
Political scientist, V.O. Key, Jr., described public opinion as those opinions held by private persons
which government finds it prudent to head. The media relies on polls the right amount because it s
only a general sample and doesn t include every potential factor such as question ambiguity, non
response, and non attitudes. In addition, as discussed in lecture, many citizens are unconnected,
uninformed, or inconsistent in their ideologies. Given these potential errors, the media s use of polls
has a mixed effect. On one hand, polls are able to keep audiences updated in public opinion and

In discussion, we attributed its popularity to medicinal marijuana, cultural influences (music and
television), and educational progression on its effects. I am confident in the data presented because of
its demographical breakdown. Men were more likely to support marijuana legalization over women;
democrats were more supportive than republicans, and younger people and medicinal marijuana users
were highly in support of legalization. CBS News uses this poll in order to explain how progressive
Americans have felt toward marijuana over the years. As mentioned in the introduction, many
Americans were uninformed on the effects of marijuana from the 1970s up to the 2000s. In addition to
that notion, since 1997, the percentage of Americans who had not tried marijuana decreased from 65%
to 56%, meaning many Americans based their opinion off environmental influences. I feel this article
provided ample evidence that conveys to its audience that the perception on marijuana has completely

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Looming Uncertainty For...
Dreamers: Here to Stay
A rhetorical analysis of Ricardo Aca s article The Looming Uncertainty for Dreamers Like Me.
Nearly 800,000 students fear their protection after the proposed recall of the Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals (DACA). New York Times author Ricardo Aca is one of those students protected
under the 2012 act (Source). He discusses his position with use of the rhetorical triangle. He builds his
ethics by personal accomplishment. He is a senior at Baruch College studying public relations

He additionally states how the program, although numerous participants, is difficult to be on (main).
This made me curious, in response I researched. Several requirements have been issued by the
Government. One must be under the age of 31 at the time of act establishment, have lived in the US
from 2007 to present time, never committed a felony, misdemeanor, etc., and are in or have graduated
high school, or received equivalent diploma ( Consideration of Deferred... ). He claims to pay taxes
and yet receives little benefits. They can not receive health insurance or state funded financial aid.
(source). This lead me to conclude that there is a greater harm in discontinuing the DACA. They
benefit our economy by working and paying taxes; our government gives no money in return, just
rights. Although his logic is vague, he provides just enough to intrigue the inquisitive.
Pathos is the most prominent. His word choice varies based on what emotion he is attempting to
appeal. He provides the reader with anger, fear, love, and hopelessness. The line I found most
invoking was step out of the shadows of society. With my love of poetry, I found the alliteration to be
impactful. Although not one direct emotion is given, the reader can notice the hissing s . Other words
contain a more direct in impact. He invokes anger on the reader by using strong, multi syllable words

Determinism Vs Compatibilism Essay
To compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism, we must
know what each is first before we can break them down to their cores and begin to an analyze each to
see what is the basically the same and what is different. John Chaffee author of The Philosopher s
Way, A Text with Readings states that determinism is The view that every event, including human
actions, is brought about by previous events in accordance with universal causal laws that govern the
world. Human freedom is an illusion (Chaffee, 173). Chaffee s definition of compatibilism is The
view that all events, including human actions, are caused. However, we can consider human actions

Compatibilists are panned by determinists for failing to comprehend the extent to which human
freedom is limited, and by libertarians for failing to grasp the true extent of human freedom.
Compatibilism suggests a considerate description of moral freedom. However, a line has to be drawn
between that which is determined and that which is open to choice. Compatibilists have to decide on
exactly what is and what is not a seminal factor. The intricacies of the sciences make such a line tough
to induce.
Compatibilism decides that moral responsibility is significant in our social order but that it is not
reasonable to hold a person responsible for actions caused by his emotions, beliefs, desires and
decisions if he has no choice about having them
It is, however, hard for the compatibilists to decide what exactly is resolute and what can be freely
selected. The intricate environment of people and the roles of physics, genetics and psychology make
deciding what exactly is, or is not, a determining cause extremely difficult.
Compatibilism also allows for originality in our choices so not all our choices are the result of
prevailing yearnings and

The Use Of Aestivation And Vertebrate Animals
Introduction
Aestivation is derived from Latin: aestas, summer, but also spelled aestivation in American English is
a state of animal dormancy, similar to hibernation, characterized by inactivity and a lowered metabolic
rate that is entered in response to high temperatures and arid conditions. It takes place during times of
heat and dryness, the hot dry season, which are often the summer months. [1]
Mechanism of Aestivation
Invertebrate and vertebrate animals are known to enter this state to avoid damage from high
temperatures and the risk of desiccation. Both terrestrial and aquatic animals undergo aestivation.
Organisms that aestivate appear to be in a fairly light state of dormancy, as their physiological state
can be rapidly reversed, and the organism can quickly return to a normal state. A study done on Otala
lactea, a snail native to parts of Europe and Northern Africa shows that they can wake from their
dormant state within ten minutes of being introduced to a wetter environment. Fossil records show
that the act of aestivating may be several hundred million years old.
The primary physiological and biochemical concerns for an aestivating animal are to conserve energy,
retain water in the body, ration the use of stored energy, handle the nitrogenous end products, and
stabilize bodily organs, cells, and macromolecules. This can be quite a task as hot temperatures and
arid conditions may last for months. The depression of metabolic rate during aestivation causes a

probably could have carried it back beyond the Civil War through the branches (Walker, 1988). By

as documentation that she has visited a spectacle of the past. Dee has forsaken her birth name for a

and heritage and instead embraces what Dee sees as the novel charm of African American culture. Dee
asks to take home hand made items from her home to use as decoration and displays from the past.
She requests the churn top as a centerpiece for the alcove table and she would come up with
something artistic to do with the dasher (Walker, 1989). Grandma Dee s quilts were her most coveted

  • 2. Causes of the Salem Witch Craft Trials Since there never was a spurned lover stirring things up in Salem Village, and there is no evidence from the time that Tituba practiced Caribbean black magic, yet these trials and executions actually still took place, how can you explain why they occurred? The Salem Witchcraft Trials began not as an act of revenge against an ex lover, as they did in The Crucible, but as series of seemingly unlinked, complex events, which a paranoid and scared group of people incorrectly linked. And while there were countless other witchcraft trials, Salemî–¸ trials remain the best known. In Salem, fears of witchcraft perpetuated by popular writings were personified when two girls were said to be bewitched. A hysteria overcame the people of Salem, whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That Little Betty Parris was sick, and that the Dr. Griggs (who was too proud to say that he could not diagnose Little Bettyî–¸ illness) claimed she was bewitched (Richardson 7), were enough reasons for court authorities to suspect witchcraft was the cause of the illness. In addition, several young girls in the village had participated in 弎lack magic?experiments ?harmless adolescent games ?in the company of Tituba, Reverend Parrisî–¸ slave. The restless young girls allegedly met in Parrisî–¸ shed, and created and listened to Titubaî–¸ incredible tales of sorcery and black arts, which were doubtless an outlet for their repressed feelings. Soon, faulty cause and effect relationships sparked delirium. When the girls had fits of hysteria ?seizures, trance like states, and sacrilegious screaming ?Parris called upon his colleagues to exorcise the demons that possessed the girls. Ministers from nearby communities met in Salem Village 懀o lead a public day of fasting and prayer, and to question the afflicted girls about what had caused their disturbing behavior?(8). Occasionally, the girls went mute or blind, choked, had muscle spasms, and had visions of frightening spirits. They claimed that evil spirits ursued them, threatening, biting, pinching, pricking, and performing other bodily injuries?(8). After that, public concern became mass hysteria. Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborne, were arrested and tried. Only Tituba confessed to signing the Devilî–¸ book. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in today s society. Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic. Cell phones, personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been created with the intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier fashion. Devices are customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While these devices have contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures, especially in the United States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This becomes extremely apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones continually disrupt the cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the frequency of use on these personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered. Interpersonal skills are important for a culture to thrive and to be successful. It is unknown what kind of effects technology will have in the long run towards face to face communications and interpersonal relationships. The science fiction book series, Divergent, has an interesting solution for what happens when societies let technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sir Robert Peel Essay Sir Robert Peel Review Danny Granillo CJA 214 September 27th, 2011 Jason Hillis Sir Robert Peel Review American policing has been around for years and is extremely likely to be around for hundreds of generations to come. Very early policing and punishments could include public humiliation and even torture. Times have changed since the beginnings of police tactics now it is incredibly uncommon to see public humiliation due to a crime. American policing has changed multiple times over the past hundred plus years. In most eyes the changes have been for the best of the policing system, trying to establish a concrete system. The policing system has developed overtime into a professional position, preventing crime, using the police ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The police officers that went into the public had to meet certain qualifications. The officer had to act in a professional manner while in the public. Theses officers were even tempered and did not lash out quickly with violence physically or verbally. These officers were trained to be a well mannered, in control of oneself, and respectful officer. After gaining respect of the citizens Sir Robert Peels next major task was preventing crime and establishing authority. Preventing crime was the primary purpose for Sir Robert Peel and his associates. In order to prevent crime the London Metropolitan Police Act needed to be approved by parliament. In 1829 the act was passed and Sir Robert Peel took advantage of this. This created a full time uniformed police agency that would patrol the city with the effort of preventing crime from happening. With the public now respecting officers and officers patrolling the streets that every citizen walked on the police officers eventually gained a form of authority in the public. This authority came with the training for the job and the citizens recognizing that the officer is there to help and prevent crime. United States development of a formal policing agency came from Sir Robert Peel and what the London Metropolitan Police have become. • 5. Economic Changes In Early Modern Europe Eve Orbach 10H1 October 22nd Economic Change in Early Modern Europe The Early Modern Period of Europe was a time of vast change in the economy due to the Price Revolution, multiple wars and extremely high taxes, the Peasant Revolts, and the discovery of new lands during the Age of Exploration. During the Early Modern Period there were no classic examples of the average European citizen because of the unique religion, climate, population, etc, of each region. The one similarity that all Europeans shared was that they were all going through significant economic change (even though most of the Europeans were unaware of this). In Europe during the sixteenth century, the large majority of the population either lived and worked on small towns or farms (about %90). Manors, the Church, and the government took usually more than half of what the peasants farmed (the taxes from the peasants had a big role in supporting the power of the state). The inflation of prices caused the wealthy to become even wealthier (the Price Revolution gave many the opportunity to accumulate more wealth), and poorer citizens to lose a lot of money because they had to pay the inflated prices. During the Price Revolution countries started to engage in Mercantilism, which is when countries would import more goods than they would export. • 6. Dental Sealants Essay Dental Sealants Caries Risk Dental sealants are used to fill pits and fissures on the occlusal, or chewing, surfaces of the premolars and molars to help protect them from carious lesions and tooth decay ( Dental Sealants , 2016). Posterior teeth that are selected for placement of sealants are either newly erupted, when occlusal surface is deep and irregular, and have a history of dental caries (Wilkins, 621). So it is very important, especially for children, to get sealants placed as soon as their molars erupt in order to lower their risk for childhood caries. However, there are many factors that have caused children to be withheld from radiographic screenings and treatment; one major factor is parents not being able to afford the treatment. But, one thing that has helped many children get sealants placed is a school sealant programs; funded by the Centers for Disease Control. According to Ali Hasnu (2013, p.7) consumers buying decision is influenced by the physical attractiveness of store displays. • 10. The Significance of Death and Sex to William Shakespeare The Significance of Death and Sex to William Shakespeare In this essay, I will consider Death and Sin in Shakespearean drama and I would like to look at three of Shakespeare s tragic plays: Hamlet , Othello and King Lear . Shakespeare uses many themes in all his play that attract audiences throughout history. The things he wrote about are as relevant now as they were in his time. Death and Sin were issues that are always around. In his plays, Shakespeare could comment on these things and make audiences see things that they could not before. In Hamlet, we can see clear examples of Death and Sin as significant to Shakespearean drama. The first thing that points to both death and sin is the inclusion of a ghost in the play. ... People were expected to change religion depending on what their monarch said or face being an outcast. In Elizabeth s reign, the religion changed from Catholicism to Protestantism. I chose this as the ethical problem because it seems as though Kai could use some help with her well being. She has a lot on her plate with being in a strong recovery from bi polar (I) disorder, her husband being deployed for the four time to Iraq, she has had suicidal ideation two within the past month, trying to take on a new job as a principal, and in sessions she becomes stressed very easily and shuts down. I ve noticed when Kai gets stressed in family session Tamili will get very angry. Kai being stressed could be causing Tamili to act out in school and receive bad grades. This is why I chose the importance of human relationship as the other problem. Kai and Tamili have bonded very well but with Kai being so stressed lately it could be affect Tamili s performances at school. Tamili has been bulling others at school, has low grades, and is being very disrespectful to her teachers. 2) a. I would want to ask Kai s close friends and family how she is currently handling life. With her fiancé being deployed, with the possibly of become a school principle and Tamili not preforming well in school. Thesis Of Last Flight By Amelia Earhart Ibrahim Albaba Mrs. Seeger APUSH || Period 1 Last Flight by Amelia Earhart February 9, 2017 For so much of our history as a people, we are often reminded of the many successful men that accomplished things to make this world a better place. We are reminded about their long, devastating journey to reach their goals and maintain their prosperity; however, not once do we hear of their wives or female siblings. In the early 1900 s it was still presumed that this was the role of the man. A woman from Kansas, however, rose beyond the clouds of prejudice her name Amelia Earhart. Determined and hard working, this woman set on surpassing the limits previously placed on women, and in her book, Last Flight, Amelia Earhart fought the many odds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On April 8, 1931, she set the altitude record by flying 18,415 feet. On January 11, 1935, she became the first person to fly across the Pacific from Honolulu to Oakland (Earhart 89 93). All this was done during a time and place where people lossed their jobs, and the economy was bad. Unemployment rate almost tripled between 1930 and 1933 as it jumped from 8.9 percent to 24.9 percent. Americans relied on Earhart s successes as national achievements and viewed them as encouragement through all of the unrest of the great depression. It was a signal that while America s economy was still weakening, the country s spirit to accomplish was still strong. It was also a symbol that the American dream was still active and that, at least in some way, those who worked hard would be compensated. Her accomplishments proved to the world that women were equal, and lifted America to the center stage of civil rights. In conclusion, the book Last Flight, by Amelia Earhart, portrayed a critical moment in American History; traditional viewpoints were challenged, aviation became ingrained in the American culture, and women became major players in the American Dream. Amelia Earhart s accomplishments have jarring similarities to Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space, orbiting the earth forty eight times. She put the previous four American astronauts all male to shame with their combined total of thirty six. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Sally Green s Half Bad Characters Sally Green s debut novel Half Bad (2014) would be a fantastic pick for Seekonk High School s 2018 summer reading book. The novel takes place in the United Kingdom in the 21st century in a world that is shared between humans and witches. White Witches are the majority of the population and are considered the good , while Black Witches are discriminated against, captured, and tortured by the Council of White Witches, the leading body of White Witches in the U.K.. The book s plot and characters are original and interesting, from the concept of White Witches and Black Witches to the uniqueness of its main character Nathan, and while the pacing of the story can be quite slow, this assists the ability the book has to make the plot easy to understand, which is also achieved through the simple narration of the story from the first person point of view of the illiterate Nathan. The novel is also appeals to teenagers and young adults of all interests, as it the story is filled with action and violence yet has little bits of romance in between, coming together to form a book categorized by fantasy. Overall, Half Bad would be a fantastic book to read for SHS due to these factors, after all, it is a record breaking novel... literally. In 2014, Guinness World Records awarded Half Bad with two titles for its rapid translation into over 45 different languages before publication: Most translated book by a debut author, pre publication and Most translated children s book by a debut author pre publication (Children s Book Council Authors). • 14. Do Rights Exist For The Agency Worker Case Study Do rights exist for the agency worker? The Regulations have been a slow burner as the Directive was first drafted in 2002, with the possibility of the draft never evolving. The length of time for the AWR 2010 to be passed emphasises the struggle for the agency worker to obtain the rights within the UK as well as Europe. Despite opposition from British government, other Member States initially supported the Directive. This can be extracted from how the agency worker is viewed as a cover piece, and is only considered from a business perspective, rather than another type of worker who should have more, if not equal rights, to those there on a permanent basis. This gradual development (or lack of development at the time) benefited the end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reiterates the above, demonstrating that the Member States were complacent where the rights of the agency worker were concerned, and how vulnerable the agency worker was within the work force. These types of workers have always been left unclarified, it provides employers with a scapegoat to terminate, or employ, an agency worker without the same implications that are attached to a permanent employee from day one. The theoretical theory of the agency worker gives the understanding that they are expected to cement over the cracks and cover the duties of others that are on long term leave, for example maternity. The agency worker is a rapid solution to rush another body into the work environment. This impacts the career development of the agency worker, questioning the high quality of work and the satisfaction they receive. The chance to progress and be selected for internal promotions would be limited and once the assignment was completed, the agency worker potentially would no longer be required. It subconsciously brackets certain groups such as young school leavers, working mothers and older workers into committing to this type of employment, due to the beneficial features it potentially has for the individual . It is a fine balance between flexibility and security for both the agency worker and the end user, both key concepts for both contracting parties. Arrowsmith (2009 ) supports the expressed ... The results of the experiment could have been incorrect because the glassware was not properly cleaned. The distillate also could have collected too fast which would have lowered the separations efficiency. In 2012, the local grocery, Olivares signed up for a program run by The Food Trust, a regional advocacy group that gets funding from a variety of public and private sources. The Food Trust provided money and expertise, sprucing up the store with a new refrigerated display case, awning, vegetable kiosk, as well as signs throughout directing customers to the healthy eats (Hargreaves, 2015). The Trust provides training on how to handle and fresh produce such as not storing the bananas next to the apples, as apples give off ethylene, which rots the bananas. • 17. The Battle Of The Woods Lived A Village Of Warriors Deep in the woods lived a village of warriors that had long fought to keep their lands clear of the wolf menace, but to no avail. It seemed to the villagers that there was a stalemate between them, or perhaps the wolves had grown accustomed to the taste of their blood and were finally bored with them. The killings became sporadic and less frequent, to the point where eventually the warrior culture began to deteriorate. The magic that was instilled in every villager was fading, their innocent blue eyes remained. Without killing, their eyes were never stained with death and a pair of brown eyes was a rare sight here. Wolves were now just fairy tales told to children to keep them from straying too far into the woods. Such was the case with the Faraway girl, whom people simply called Red. She donned a blood red cape wherever she went because it was a family heirloom handed down to her by her mother. Every Faraway woman for ten generations had worn the cape and kept it in the most immaculate condition. When they would wear it the people of the village always called them Red instead of their given name, it was tradition. Some of the older villagers knew a story of a great warrior who wore a cape like it. They say it was made of the blood of one thousand wolves, their deaths woven into the magic fabric. This was the same story that was told to Red when she asked her grandmother why she had one brown eye and one blue. She told her, One of our ancestors was said to have slain ... His memories reveal more in the story than any other narrator because he is able to remember without concealing information. Faulkner uses Benjy s narration to build a foundation and pretense for the novel, creating a puzzle for the reader. Compatibilism decides that moral responsibility is significant in our social order but that it is not reasonable to hold a person responsible for actions caused by his emotions, beliefs, desires and decisions if he has no choice about having them It is, however, hard for the compatibilists to decide what exactly is resolute and what can be freely selected. The intricate environment of people and the roles of physics, genetics and psychology make deciding what exactly is, or is not, a determining cause extremely difficult. Compatibilism also allows for originality in our choices so not all our choices are the result of prevailing yearnings and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Use Of Aestivation And Vertebrate Animals Introduction Aestivation is derived from Latin: aestas, summer, but also spelled aestivation in American English is a state of animal dormancy, similar to hibernation, characterized by inactivity and a lowered metabolic rate that is entered in response to high temperatures and arid conditions. It takes place during times of heat and dryness, the hot dry season, which are often the summer months. [1] Mechanism of Aestivation Invertebrate and vertebrate animals are known to enter this state to avoid damage from high temperatures and the risk of desiccation. Both terrestrial and aquatic animals undergo aestivation. Organisms that aestivate appear to be in a fairly light state of dormancy, as their physiological state can be rapidly reversed, and the organism can quickly return to a normal state. A study done on Otala lactea, a snail native to parts of Europe and Northern Africa shows that they can wake from their dormant state within ten minutes of being introduced to a wetter environment. Fossil records show that the act of aestivating may be several hundred million years old. The primary physiological and biochemical concerns for an aestivating animal are to conserve energy, retain water in the body, ration the use of stored energy, handle the nitrogenous end products, and stabilize bodily organs, cells, and macromolecules. This can be quite a task as hot temperatures and arid conditions may last for months. The depression of metabolic rate during aestivation causes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Quilt In Alice Walker s Everyday Use The quilt in the story was hand sewn by Grandma Dee out of remnants from her dress, her husband s shirts, and her father s Union uniform from the Civil War. Mama believes and loves her family and has an appreciation for her family tree. Mama tells Dee you know as well as me you was named after your aunt Dicie (Walker, 1988), and Aunt Dicie was named after Grandma Dee, and she named after her mother, and even though Mama says that s about as far back as I can trace it (Walker, 1988), she probably could have carried it back beyond the Civil War through the branches (Walker, 1988). By following family tradition and naming her daughter Dee, it is evident that Mama loves her family and wishes to keep family tradition alive and well. The quilt made by ... Upon her arrival, Dee begins taking pictures of her Mama and her sister but takes special care to include the house in the background. She does not take pictures as cherished memories of a trip home, but rather as documentation that she has visited a spectacle of the past. Dee has forsaken her birth name for a new name: Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo. This new name epitomizes her separation from her family and heritage and instead embraces what Dee sees as the novel charm of African American culture. Dee asks to take home hand made items from her home to use as decoration and displays from the past. She requests the churn top as a centerpiece for the alcove table and she would come up with something artistic to do with the dasher (Walker, 1989). Grandma Dee s quilts were her most coveted item. She wanted to hang them in her home as the ultimate exhibit of her home for her friends to gawk at and stare, not in appreciation, but in condescending infatuation of her ...
