Literary Analysis Of The Cask Of Amontillado
The story, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, is a narration of revenge and murder crafted
and committed in the most of secretive ways, that the victim, Fortunato, did not recognize the murder
plan until at the very last point of last breath. The story, narrated by Montresor, gives an account of an
oppressed individual, who had patiently and submissively subjected to oppression, until insults began,
and he could no longer take any more. The narrator had been oppressed many times by the victim
against whom he seeks revenge. In the very opening of the narration, the narrator claims to have been
hurt by the victim numerous times when stating THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I
best could (Poe, n.p.). However, while suffering quietly from all the injuries he had received from
Fortunato, Montresor had crafted a plan for revenge, which he ensured the target victim would not
detect. Indeed, Montresor continued to mask his evil plans against the victim through acting nicely
towards him and also maintaining a smile that only him knew was informed by the thought of revenge
(Poe, n.p.). Indeed, Montresor no doubt comes out as very crafty, and the secretively crafted plan of
revenge against Fortunato he made can be lauded as being genius. Nevertheless, this discussion holds
the argument that it is Fortunato s skepticism, as opposed to Montresor s definitive and genius plan,
that materializes the revenge.
The story, The Cask of Amontillado , is a

Government, Regulation Business Ethics
Government, Regulation amp; Business Ethics
The issue of business relations with government has increasingly become a key issue of business
ethics. Some of the many questions raised are * Is it acceptable for corporations to use their
considerable power tp shape government policy? * Is the government jeopardizing its role in
protecting the public interest when politicians sit on the board of corporations?
The government has a crucial role to play in establishing the rules of the game by which we judge
business ethics.
When we talk about the government, we know that the government is involved in issuing laws related
to business practices. Business ethics tend to begin where the law ends. This means that the

argue that it has certain advantagesif politicians have had the experience of the business world and
vice versa. On the other hand, there are also quite significant ethical problems linked to the close
amalgamation of business and politics. Eg. German ex chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was criticized
for taking up an appointment as Chair of the Germa Russian company, in charge of the new gas

makes obvious the problems that can arise when we have politcians who are entitled to set the rules of
the economic game also acting as players in the game.

The Effect of Slavery on the Identity of Cuba Essay
The Effect of Slavery on the Identity of Cuba
The Caribbean is a diverse region with a unique history. The progress and advancement of each island
complied with the European country in control of it at the time. The Caribbean was conquered and
colonized soon after Columbus discovery in 1492. A similar aspect of the heterogeneous region has
been its plantations. The plantations were an important aspect of the cultural history of the Caribbean.
Mintz believed that the plantations tied the colonies in the Caribbean to the European country that was
colonizing it. He states:
the plantation system was an agricultural design for the production of export commodities for foreign
markets a means for introducing agricultural capitalism to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mintz believed that the plantation system was something positive that helped to shape each colony
into what it presently is, he states the plantation system was not only an agricultural device; it also
became the basis for entire societal design (Mintz 27). Benitez Rojo, also believing that the plantation
system was something positive, believed so because they created an economy in the primarily
primitive Caribbean and it help them construct a structured economical system.
Slavery in the Caribbean also played the role of shaping each colony s identity and culture. When
Europe began importing and shipping in slaves from Africa into the colonies, miscegenation occurred.
As a result of slavery, a diverse Caribbean was created. It was molded by each individual s island
history and how it dealt with slavery, the integration of cultures, acculturation, and colonialism. The
importation of about four million African slaves to the Caribbean was mainly what made these islands
the melting pot that it is today. Today, Cuba is one of the most racially mixed islands in the Caribbean.
Could the racial mixture possibly be the result of the impact of slavery in Cuba during the period of
the colony s colonization? Could the Afro Cuban culture be the result of miscegenation, which was
impacted by slavery in the island?

Essay about The Americanization Of Canada
When the topic of Canada comes up among peoples, immediately the thought of ice hockey, the
Mounted Police, and beavers comes to mind. In fact, Canada has truly lost its true identity that we
once knew. It is slowly being assimilated and in fact Americanized ; in aspects of social identity,
national identity, and cultural identity.
First, Canada is being slowly Americanized ; in its social identity. When we talk about a country s
social identity, we examine a few areas. First is the media, which is constantly bombarding Canadians
with images and values of American culture. Through the images we see Americans constantly
fighting, either in aspects of global policing in their own backyard with Americans killing Americans.

First thought that comes to most peoples minds is that of the mounted police, beavers, ice hockey, and
wide land mass. In fact, our national identity has been brought about by the American way of life. This
buying spree essentially started when Walt Disney purchased the Mounted Police s image o it could be
displayed in the Ebcot center. The most powerful, stunning uniform is to be adorned by some no
account, flag waving, hillbilly yokel. Another national image wh8ich spans all three topics of social,
natural and cultural is that of Tim Horton s. The one place where we all go almost every day, has been
bought by an American, Dave Thomas. The image of hockey is distorted as well for there are 28 teams
in the NHL, and only 6 of those teams are based in Canada. That means that Canada only has 21% of
what is considered to be a national sport. The government image is distorted in the Canadians mind as
well. All of the American s television shows and news would have some Canadians believe that our
governments work the same, and all courts operate in the same way as Judge Judy s and the People s
Court. In summary, not only are Canadians loosing the social identity but their national identity as
well.
Third, not only is the Americanization of Canada taking place through the social and national
identities, but also through cultural identities. Canada is viewed as a mosaic and not a melting pot such
as in the States

Religion Is No Doubt A Popular Essay
College of Charleston
Zoroastrianism:
A Discussion
Christopher M. Kountz
REL 105 (05) 9:25 a.m. 10:40 a.m.
Spring 2015
In today s society, religion is no doubt a popular, if widely contested, topic. The vast array of belief
systems that exists worldwide has a significant influence on the opposing viewpoints of many current
hot button issues, and despite the intended separation of church and state here in the United States;
religion is both a social and political force. A person s spiritual beliefs often provide the basis for his
or her entire lifestyle, including physical appearance, dietary choices, and perhaps most importantly,
decisions that directly involve one s perspective of right and wrong. Even those who do not identify
with any one particular religion typically have some knowledge of the world s major religions, such as
Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam, simply because of their enormous numbers in terms of
followers which continue to rapidly expand.
However, beyond these theological giants exists a multitude of smaller, but no less meaningful, other
religions. Zoroastrianism, for example, is one of today s smallest religions, with an estimated 200,000
followers (Hartz, p. 8). As a comparison, the Islam religion boasts over one billion followers (Sonn, p.
185). Yet even though modern day Zoroastrianism is not nearly as widespread as its more prominent
counterparts, it is nonetheless an important cultural constituent, both due to its

Essay about The Effects of Runoff to Marine Life
Runoff is defined as excess water that soil does not absorb after a storm. Runoff collects various
particles on its way downhill, such as pesticides and nutrients, from the surrounding area, and moves
them into the nearby bodies of water. Some nutrients carried by runoff include: nitrate, ammonium,
and phosphate; all of which are found in golf course turf fertilizer (experiment). When these excess
chemicals enter the water, they create an imbalance in the ecosystem. This imbalance can be harmful
to inhabitants both in, and around the body of water. Those affected in the water may be subjected to a
decrease in dissolved oxygen levels, making it harder for the animals to breath. The levels of acidity in
the water may increase, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sliva and Dudley Williams gathered information that with increased urban land use, there were
increased chemical fluxes, and their data they gathered from increased agricultural land use disagreed
with the results of other similar studies. They determined major trends in water quality and where
pollution could potentially be derived from (Sliva Dudley Williams, 2001). It is a known fact that
unnecessary amounts of lawn fertilizer, containing nitrogen and phosphorus, are commonly used, and
result in pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. This occurs through runoff. Not all of the nutrients from
runoff get transported directly to the Bay. Overtime, some are absorbed into the ground, where they
mix with groundwater, and later meets up with the Bay. For example, in a stream near Baltimore,
scientists discovered that 56% of the nutrients in the water came from lawn fertilizer alone
(Chesapeake Bay Program, 2011). Nitrogen and phosphorus are not only the primary nutrients in lawn
fertilizer, they are also the primary nutrients required to sustain aquatic biological productivity, in the
correct moderation. In freshwater ecosystems, the growth of phytoplankton and algae are influenced
by a surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus. Aquatic grasses living under this excess growth are then
inhibited from growing, eventually leading towards grass bed loss, due to the lack of sunlight
available. Lack of sunlight results in a lack of photosynthesis. Unlike the more

The Cultural Impact Of Electricity And The World We Live
In today s world nothing is more important than the gadgets we use on a every day to day basis. What
we take for granted sometimes is the thing we use most and most importantly we use to charge
everything most of the time is some type of electricity. I hope to provide a clear and concise paper that
details and gives the cultural impact of electricity and the world we live. This paper will hit on three
topics reconstruction to the beginning of where man first began to harness electricity, how man used
this electricity to change the course of history as we know it, and the positives as well as the negatives
of electricity and the world we live in.
Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons. All matter is made up of atoms, and an
atom has a center, called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons
and uncharged particles called neutrons (Joseph, 2002)The nucleus of an atom is surrounded by
negatively charged particles called electrons. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the
positive charge of a proton, and the number of electrons in an atom is usually equal to the number of
protons (Joseph, 2002).When the balancing force between protons and electrons is upset by an outside
force, an atom may gain or lose an electron. When electrons are lost from an atom, the free movement
of these electrons constitutes an electric current (Joseph, 2002). To understand electricity one must
know that it is not an invention but a

The Tundra Ecosystem
Tundra
The tundra is a biome of a large, flat, treeless landscape in the Northern Hemisphere where permafrost
is evident. The tundra covers 20 percent of the earth s surface. The tundra has a colder climate with
temperatures 30 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit with precipitation of six to ten inches. The environment is
cold, windy and harsh; forcing plants and animals to adapt. Herbivores eat the plants to survive, and
the predators eat the other predators or herbivores. Nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide made
up the atmosphere in the tundra. The tundra has the same average temperatures and landscapes are
prevalent. Variation across continents is very little. The landscape, temperature and precipitation are
are very similar.

Also the Canadian tundra is in the Canadian province of Quebec. The biodiversity of colder places
decreases as they get too cold, and as they get too hot. The tundra is a great example of a cold, low
biodiversity ecosystem. Species depend on one another to survive. The soil is very thin because
continental ice sheets covered it until a few thousand years ago. Microorganisms in this tundra are
very delicate and need a constant environment to survive. In fact, the soil has a higher carbon dioxide
level than other soils. The ecosystem is almost untouched by humans, but the increase of oil drilling
and wildfires can soon change that. Tourism is not well known in the tundra, for its cold temperatures
and low biodiversity narrow the tourists down to mainly scientists. The tundra in Canada is protected

Real Estate Agents And Economists
Real estate agents and economists love to extol the virtues of home ownership when interest rates are
low. In fact, they tend to see periods of low interest rates as the very best time to buy a home for just
about everyone.
Do your best to ignore the low rate hype. Sure, it s better to get a low rate mortgage than a high rate
one, but mortgage rates should never be the primary reason driving you to buy a house. It s even
possible that chasing low rates can cause you to lose money.
How in the world can that possibly happen?
Buying Before You re Ready to Settle In For the Long Haul

If you pay 3 percent in closing costs to purchase a home, then another 10 percent to sell it, the house
will need to have increased in value by at least 13 percent in order for you to not lose money on the
exchange. If the property doesn t rise in value at least that much, owning the house will cost you
money over and above your monthly payment and other expenses paid to maintain the property.
You Have Significant Non Mortgage Debt
Mortgages are usually thought of as being good debt . While that s often true, accumulating good debt
doesn t do anything to make your bad debt go away.
If you have a significant amount of bad debt credit cards, store charge accounts, car loans or other
forms of debt adding a mortgage to the list could prove to be an unsustainable burden.
Another type of debt almost synonymous with Millennials are student loans. Though generally
considered to be good debt themselves, they are nonetheless debt no matter how you classify them,
and add to your cost of living.
Before considering buying a home, carefully evaluate your existing debt situation. If you think that the
current debt load is even a little bit uncomfortable, your best course of action would be to wait in
buying a home until you get those other non housing debts under better control.
You can use a mortgage industry barometer to help you make this

Lillian sat on her porch that overlooked a lawn that had suffered the worst of winter. The grass was
still wilting, and the flowers her mother had tried to grow were still hidden underneath the mounds of
soil somewhere. The sun, however, glowed with all of its glory and gleam, its rays seemingly touching

same sky. Lillian gazed straight ahead on a wooden rocking chair, every so often rocking it backward

What was she doing, wasting away in this rocking chair anyway? And if she stared at the lawn any

same sitting position forever, staring perpetually out into the pit of her own despair. Wait. The

Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
In Katherine Mansfield s short story Miss Brill , an elderly woman is portrayed as content with her life
due to her unique ways of dissolving reality into her own. However, when she finally sees reality for
how it truly is, she is brought to the realization of her loneliness. This paper will analyze the hidden
qualities of loneliness through Mansfield s illusions, symbolism, and Miss Brill s personal revelation.
From the start, Miss Brill was crafting her own reality by personifying her fox scarf, by having it say
What has been happening to me? (65). Although Miss Brill expresses this question towards the fox, it
s underlying target is herself as a non living object is incapable of asking questions. She then
continues by stating that she felt a tingling in her hands breathed, something light and sad no, not sad,
exactly something gentle seemed to move in her bosom (65). The something gentle that she refers to is

uses the appeal of logos often throughout the film, but one of the most prominent examples occurs
when the jurors are discussing the knife that Juror 4 has pointed out is a unique knife that the

to Juror Four by saying, No. I m saying it s possible that the boy lost the knife and that someone else

also utilizes logical fallacies to prove a point with other jurors.
Logical fallacies are repeatedly used by the jurors throughout the movie, and Juror Eight is no

German Racial Views And Policies Towards The Jewish People...
On the 20th of January 1942, leading members of the Nazi party had met in Berlin to discuss how they
could make the mass murder of all the Jewish people in Europe an organised and methodical
procedure; this discussion would be known as the Final Solution of the Jewish Question . This essay
will prove that the progressive development of German racial views and policies towards the Jewish
people, did in fact led to the Final Solution, and ultimately an attempt at the mass genocide of the
Jewish population all due to the absurd anti Semitic mind sets of the German people.
In the 1920s, the Nazi party had come into power under Adolf Hitler s rule, who had begun to put in
place the Nazi parties racial ideology. The Nazis had seen the German people as racially superior, and
that anyone who wasn t German, was inferior and would interrupt the creation of the perfect human
race, or what would be known as the Aryan race. The inferior people noticed by the Nazis were the;
gypsies, Jews, poles and those of colour, however, the Jews were the main virus with regards to the
Germans. The German people had the idea that the crisis in Germany and the hyperinflation of the

Camp David Accords Essay
Former President Jimmy Carter is frequently referred to as a champion of human rights. While his
presidency is deemed mostly unsuccessful in handling domestic affairs, such as unemployment and a
sharp increase of inflation, Carter is well respected for his attempts to negotiate peace across the
world. One of his better known attempts is the Camp David Accords, in which Carter brought Israeli
Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat together to discuss peace
between the two nations. While most Americans see the Camp David Accords as progress toward
peace, Arab leaders felt the opposite.
In an effort to establish himself and his knowledge with international affairs, Carter immersed himself
in learning about the Middle East and did a tour in 1973 through Israel, Palestine, Egypt, and Syria.
Before the Camp David Accords, the situation between Israel and every other Middle Eastern country
was delicate and heightened by constant guerilla attacks back and forth. While Israel had Western
support, their successive militant governments established settlements along the Jordan River as well
as military occupation throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip pushing Palestinian refugees into
Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and the edge of the Gaza Strip. While occupying Palestinian lands in 1967,
the United Nations issued Resolution 242 calling for Israel to withdrawal from lands acquired by war
and work toward peace as well as settling the refugee problem.

Face Construct And Criterion-Related Validity Essay
There are differences among face, construct, and criterion related validity. Face validity assesses a task
under evaluation. A group of subjective experts evaluate face validity (Maribo, Pedersen, Jensen,
Nielsen, 2016). Face validity can be utilized to motivate stakeholders within an organization. If
stakeholders are not supportive of the results from face validity they will become disengaged. For
example, when measuring the level of professionalism during the hiring process questions should
relate to different levels of professionalism. If not stakeholders will not be motivated to give their
opinion and the true assessment of the hiring process will not be achieved. Face validity considers the

367, 2012). This particular validity is important when it comes to legal defensibility. Construct
validity explains how what is being studied matches the actual measure. Criterion validity answers the
question of whether a test reflects a certain set of abilities. One way to assess criterion validity is to
compare it to a known standard. A reference is needed to determine an instrument s criterion related
validity. Criterion related validity predicts the future. If a nursing program designed a measure to
assess student learning throughout the program, a test such as the NCLEX would measure student s
ability in this discipline. If the instrument produces the same result as the superior test the instrument
has a high criterion related validity. The higher the results the more faith stakeholders will have in the
assessment tool. A criterion related validity study is conducted by statistically correlating scores with
some measure of job performance (Biddle, p.308, 2010). Criterion related validity is most important
when it comes to predicting performance in a specific job, and predicting future

How Does Voltage Gated Sodium Ions Move Into Sodium Channels
The way a signal starts in the motor neuron is by way of a stimulus activating sensory neurons. This
signal travels by way of the axon that contains schwann cells. The signal continues to move into the
CNS, which causes signal to be sent to interneurons. The interneurons can send the signal through the
peripheral system or to the brain via the spinal cord.
When a skeletal muscle fires it is caused by a signal in a motor neuron. Voltage gated sodium channels
open up after a threshold stimulus of 55mV is reached. Next, Sodium ions move into the cell
membrane, thus depolarizing the cell at +30mV, which is its action potential. Sodium channels close
and Potassium channels open. Potassium moves out, which repolarizes the cell. Hyperpolarization

The Truth In David Eggers s The Circle By David Eggers
In The Circle by David Eggers, all personal secrets are considered deception. Withholding the most
insignificant opinion or experience is tantamount to a blatant lie. Therefore, the central character Mae
deceives her viewers when she partakes in private conversations with her friend Annie. Eggers uses
Mae s internal conflict over privacy and her eventual confession to express how idealism can delude
an individual s morality. Mae s transparency causes her to discretely modify her behavior until she is
no longer herself. She undergoes these slight behavior changes as a result of being watched by
thousands every single day. After going transparent, she pays more attention to every little movement
and decision she makes everything from what she eats to how she dresses. She makes these
adjustments because being constantly surveilled makes her more self conscious and sensitive to other
people s opinions. As a representative of the Circle to the whole entire world, she faces the pressure of
presenting an image of perfection. This pressure to appear perfect every moment of every day results
in the deterioration of both Mae s mental health and identity. However, the idealistic beliefs of the
Circle prevent her from recognizing her new lifestyle as unhealthy. She convinces herself that being
watched is a good kind of calibration for her personal habits. Her acceptance of the Circle infringing
on every aspect of her life shows how Mae loses her personhood for the sake of

Struggle Of Funding During The Nineteenth Century Essay
Struggle of Funding In the early 17th century colonist was required to teach their children how to read
the bible. During this period, the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted the Old Deluder Act, forcing
communities of fifty families or more to establish funds, and operate schools. Many didn t follow the
law because they were not privileged as the wealthy communities were; therefore, many poor children
remained uneducated unless they were taught by their families. According to Bayer Sampat, (2016),
the Land Ordinance of 1875, and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 were passed requiring areas to
establish schools. Thomas Jefferson and Dr. Benjamin Rush spoke in favor of a public education
system, unfortunately it wasn t established until the nineteenth century.
Moving forward, the United States public schools funding comes from the state, the federal
government, and local communities. The appropriation of these funds varies according to several
factors; however, the federal government only gives a fraction of these funds compared to the local
and state governments. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in the United States,
about 93% is funded via the state and local governments (Bayer Sampat, 2016).
As world economy changes defining and reshaping educational policies, goals were set to make global
organizations efficient by decreasing spending to promote cost effectiveness and encouraging
establishments to do better with less. School districts in the

Disadvantages Of Deficit Spending
Deficit spending is when there is an excess of government expenditures over the government revenue,
creating a shortfall that must be financed through borrowing (Deficit Spending, 2014). To put this in
other terms deficit spending is when the government needs to borrow money in order to pay for
different government programs and other items of value. In the past deficit spending has been used
when a country was facing a war or they needed to finance a building project. Deficit spending is also
used to help pull a country out of a recession. The actions taken by the government during the late
1930s and early 1940s are a prime example of deficit spending. The United States were in the middle
of the great depression and consumer spending had fallen drastically due to the number of people that
found themselves unemployed and without money. In order to combat this drastic decrease in
spending the government took on a number of projects that were meant to increase the overall
spending. In order to spend more the government would have to borrow money. Once the country was
out of the depression, and consumer spending began to grow, the idea was that the government would
be able to pay back the money that they had borrowed. In order to determine if deficit spending is
worth the cost a country needs to look at the advantages and disadvantages.
One of the major advantages of deficit spending is the amount of revenue and jobs that are created in a
time when the overall consumer

The Tax System Of South Africa
As there aren t two eggs are identical, tax systems are vary from country to country. Each country
has its own rules and principles to levy taxes from its citizens and foreigner to whom conducts

Income is taxed in the country where that income originates,
irrespective of the legal or physical residence of the recipient of income under the source based tax
system. Even though South Africa Adopted the residence based system in 2011, many states still will
tax
the income derived by a person from commercial activities undertaken in their states, hence a source
based system of tax imposes a taxation liability on income arising within a specific jurisdiction or
territory.
From the Appellate Division of Kerguelen Sealing Whaling Co., Ltd v CIR Ë¡, the fundamental
logic of a residence based tax system has been contrasted to that of a source based system in the
following: In some countries residence (or domicile) is made the test of liability for the reason,
presumably, that residents, for the privilege and protection of residence, can justly be called upon to
contribute towards the cost of good order and government of the country that shelters

resources or the activities of its inhabitants is entitled to a share of that wealth, wherever the recipients

Symphony Orchestra Essay

Professor Dewey
Music 1306
Concert Critique #1 I have never been personally a fan of the romantic orchestra music but going to
listen to a concert live is breathtaking. I attended the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Masterpieces
concert with music director Fouad Fakhouri performing Igor Stravinsky s Symphony of Psalms and
Gustav Mahler s Symphony No.1 in D major. There was a full stage of musicians and a complete
choir to back it up.
The first half of the performance was a complete orchestra of woodwinds, strings, drums, brass,
excreta and a four part choir. Overall the performance took no longer than thirty minutes to play the
three part Symphony of Psalms. This Symphony was much shorter than I was ... Show more content

Mr. Fakhouri had also explained how this is one of his favorite pieces and just had to have his
orchestra perfect, as they did successfully.
After a minor wobble of the director stand, a few adjustments and giggles, Symphony No.1 in D major
began. The first movement started off with an eerie introduction, with the first two notes morphing
into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very soothing, romantic
time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does, what I came to believe it was
a love story. The Allegro begins in the cello with the second Wayfarer song, Ging heut morgen Ubers
Feld, (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a light and happy tone in the beginning as if two
lovers had just met, this was the main theme of this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part
maybe one of despair in paradise but that only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious
ending of happily ever after. (Kahn)
The second movement Scherzo, gave more of an elegant, royal ball sound. Where the women dress in
gowns and the men in tuxedos, while drinking wine and dancing the night away. This movement has
the rhythm of the Landler, an Australian folk dance. It conforms to the classic minuet and trio form
though Mahler takes the first section beyond the standard repeat structure. The first three notes of the
Scherzo and the Trio recall the birdcall theme from the first movement. If

  • 2. Literary Analysis Of The Cask Of Amontillado The story, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, is a narration of revenge and murder crafted and committed in the most of secretive ways, that the victim, Fortunato, did not recognize the murder plan until at the very last point of last breath. The story, narrated by Montresor, gives an account of an oppressed individual, who had patiently and submissively subjected to oppression, until insults began, and he could no longer take any more. The narrator had been oppressed many times by the victim against whom he seeks revenge. In the very opening of the narration, the narrator claims to have been hurt by the victim numerous times when stating THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could (Poe, n.p.). However, while suffering quietly from all the injuries he had received from Fortunato, Montresor had crafted a plan for revenge, which he ensured the target victim would not detect. Indeed, Montresor continued to mask his evil plans against the victim through acting nicely towards him and also maintaining a smile that only him knew was informed by the thought of revenge (Poe, n.p.). Indeed, Montresor no doubt comes out as very crafty, and the secretively crafted plan of revenge against Fortunato he made can be lauded as being genius. Nevertheless, this discussion holds the argument that it is Fortunato s skepticism, as opposed to Montresor s definitive and genius plan, that materializes the revenge. The story, The Cask of Amontillado , is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the many questions raised are * Is it acceptable for corporations to use their considerable power tp shape government policy? * Is the government jeopardizing its role in protecting the public interest when politicians sit on the board of corporations? The government has a crucial role to play in establishing the rules of the game by which we judge business ethics. When we talk about the government, we know that the government is involved in issuing laws related to business practices. Business ethics tend to begin where the law ends. This means that the governments establish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He, as the owner of Italy s 3 major television stations and largest publishing house, has been able tovirtually dominate the meida and thereby, marginalize any criticism of his government. The ethics of occupying a dual role in business amp; ethics is somewhat questionable. On one hand, one could argue that it has certain advantagesif politicians have had the experience of the business world and vice versa. On the other hand, there are also quite significant ethical problems linked to the close amalgamation of business and politics. Eg. German ex chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was criticized for taking up an appointment as Chair of the Germa Russian company, in charge of the new gas pipeling through the Baltic Sea. This deal was negotiated in th final months of his term in office. It makes obvious the problems that can arise when we have politcians who are entitled to set the rules of the economic game also acting as players in the game. 4] State Capture by Business direct payment of bribes to govt officials by businesses. Where it is intended to buy an influence on regulation, we refer to it a state capture. 5] Ethical issues in context of privatization amp; deregulation An issue of extensive debate has been the price at which formerly public companies should be sold to private owners. For eg. When Deutsche Telekom was privatized, the share price immediately sank dramatically. Another ex is of the group that took over British Rail in a management buyout and ... The progress and advancement of each island complied with the European country in control of it at the time. The Caribbean was conquered and colonized soon after Columbus discovery in 1492. A similar aspect of the heterogeneous region has been its plantations. The plantations were an important aspect of the cultural history of the Caribbean. Mintz believed that the plantations tied the colonies in the Caribbean to the European country that was colonizing it. He states: the plantation system was an agricultural design for the production of export commodities for foreign markets a means for introducing agricultural capitalism to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mintz believed that the plantation system was something positive that helped to shape each colony into what it presently is, he states the plantation system was not only an agricultural device; it also became the basis for entire societal design (Mintz 27). Benitez Rojo, also believing that the plantation system was something positive, believed so because they created an economy in the primarily primitive Caribbean and it help them construct a structured economical system. Slavery in the Caribbean also played the role of shaping each colony s identity and culture. When Europe began importing and shipping in slaves from Africa into the colonies, miscegenation occurred. As a result of slavery, a diverse Caribbean was created. It was molded by each individual s island history and how it dealt with slavery, the integration of cultures, acculturation, and colonialism. The importation of about four million African slaves to the Caribbean was mainly what made these islands the melting pot that it is today. Today, Cuba is one of the most racially mixed islands in the Caribbean. Could the racial mixture possibly be the result of the impact of slavery in Cuba during the period of the colony s colonization? Could the Afro Cuban culture be the result of miscegenation, which was impacted by slavery in the island? SPAIN and the EVOLUTION of SLAVERY in CUBA Among the discovery of the rich lands of ... In fact, Canada has truly lost its true identity that we once knew. It is slowly being assimilated and in fact Americanized ; in aspects of social identity, national identity, and cultural identity. First, Canada is being slowly Americanized ; in its social identity. When we talk about a country s social identity, we examine a few areas. First is the media, which is constantly bombarding Canadians with images and values of American culture. Through the images we see Americans constantly fighting, either in aspects of global policing in their own backyard with Americans killing Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First thought that comes to most peoples minds is that of the mounted police, beavers, ice hockey, and wide land mass. In fact, our national identity has been brought about by the American way of life. This buying spree essentially started when Walt Disney purchased the Mounted Police s image o it could be displayed in the Ebcot center. The most powerful, stunning uniform is to be adorned by some no account, flag waving, hillbilly yokel. Another national image wh8ich spans all three topics of social, natural and cultural is that of Tim Horton s. The one place where we all go almost every day, has been bought by an American, Dave Thomas. The image of hockey is distorted as well for there are 28 teams in the NHL, and only 6 of those teams are based in Canada. That means that Canada only has 21% of what is considered to be a national sport. The government image is distorted in the Canadians mind as well. All of the American s television shows and news would have some Canadians believe that our governments work the same, and all courts operate in the same way as Judge Judy s and the People s Court. In summary, not only are Canadians loosing the social identity but their national identity as well. Third, not only is the Americanization of Canada taking place through the social and national identities, but also through cultural identities. • 6. Religion Is No Doubt A Popular Essay College of Charleston Zoroastrianism: A Discussion Christopher M. Kountz REL 105 (05) 9:25 a.m. 10:40 a.m. Spring 2015 In today s society, religion is no doubt a popular, if widely contested, topic. The vast array of belief systems that exists worldwide has a significant influence on the opposing viewpoints of many current hot button issues, and despite the intended separation of church and state here in the United States; religion is both a social and political force. A person s spiritual beliefs often provide the basis for his or her entire lifestyle, including physical appearance, dietary choices, and perhaps most importantly, decisions that directly involve one s perspective of right and wrong. Even those who do not identify with any one particular religion typically have some knowledge of the world s major religions, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam, simply because of their enormous numbers in terms of followers which continue to rapidly expand. However, beyond these theological giants exists a multitude of smaller, but no less meaningful, other religions. Zoroastrianism, for example, is one of today s smallest religions, with an estimated 200,000 followers (Hartz, p. 8). As a comparison, the Islam religion boasts over one billion followers (Sonn, p. 185). Yet even though modern day Zoroastrianism is not nearly as widespread as its more prominent counterparts, it is nonetheless an important cultural constituent, both due to its ... • 7. Essay about The Effects of Runoff to Marine Life Runoff is defined as excess water that soil does not absorb after a storm. Runoff collects various particles on its way downhill, such as pesticides and nutrients, from the surrounding area, and moves them into the nearby bodies of water. Some nutrients carried by runoff include: nitrate, ammonium, and phosphate; all of which are found in golf course turf fertilizer (experiment). When these excess chemicals enter the water, they create an imbalance in the ecosystem. This imbalance can be harmful to inhabitants both in, and around the body of water. Those affected in the water may be subjected to a decrease in dissolved oxygen levels, making it harder for the animals to breath. The levels of acidity in the water may increase, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sliva and Dudley Williams gathered information that with increased urban land use, there were increased chemical fluxes, and their data they gathered from increased agricultural land use disagreed with the results of other similar studies. They determined major trends in water quality and where pollution could potentially be derived from (Sliva Dudley Williams, 2001). It is a known fact that unnecessary amounts of lawn fertilizer, containing nitrogen and phosphorus, are commonly used, and result in pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. This occurs through runoff. Not all of the nutrients from runoff get transported directly to the Bay. Overtime, some are absorbed into the ground, where they mix with groundwater, and later meets up with the Bay. For example, in a stream near Baltimore, scientists discovered that 56% of the nutrients in the water came from lawn fertilizer alone (Chesapeake Bay Program, 2011). Nitrogen and phosphorus are not only the primary nutrients in lawn fertilizer, they are also the primary nutrients required to sustain aquatic biological productivity, in the correct moderation. In freshwater ecosystems, the growth of phytoplankton and algae are influenced by a surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus. Aquatic grasses living under this excess growth are then inhibited from growing, eventually leading towards grass bed loss, due to the lack of sunlight available. Lack of sunlight results in a lack of photosynthesis. Unlike the more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Cultural Impact Of Electricity And The World We Live In today s world nothing is more important than the gadgets we use on a every day to day basis. What we take for granted sometimes is the thing we use most and most importantly we use to charge everything most of the time is some type of electricity. I hope to provide a clear and concise paper that details and gives the cultural impact of electricity and the world we live. This paper will hit on three topics reconstruction to the beginning of where man first began to harness electricity, how man used this electricity to change the course of history as we know it, and the positives as well as the negatives of electricity and the world we live in. Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons. All matter is made up of atoms, and an atom has a center, called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons and uncharged particles called neutrons (Joseph, 2002)The nucleus of an atom is surrounded by negatively charged particles called electrons. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the positive charge of a proton, and the number of electrons in an atom is usually equal to the number of protons (Joseph, 2002).When the balancing force between protons and electrons is upset by an outside force, an atom may gain or lose an electron. When electrons are lost from an atom, the free movement of these electrons constitutes an electric current (Joseph, 2002). To understand electricity one must know that it is not an invention but a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tundra covers 20 percent of the earth s surface. The tundra has a colder climate with temperatures 30 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit with precipitation of six to ten inches. The environment is cold, windy and harsh; forcing plants and animals to adapt. Herbivores eat the plants to survive, and the predators eat the other predators or herbivores. In fact, they tend to see periods of low interest rates as the very best time to buy a home for just about everyone. Do your best to ignore the low rate hype. Sure, it s better to get a low rate mortgage than a high rate one, but mortgage rates should never be the primary reason driving you to buy a house. It s even possible that chasing low rates can cause you to lose money. How in the world can that possibly happen? If you have a significant amount of bad debt credit cards, store charge accounts, car loans or other forms of debt adding a mortgage to the list could prove to be an unsustainable burden. The sun, however, glowed with all of its glory and gleam, its rays seemingly touching each end of the earth. The impossibly blue sky was clear of any evidence that clouds had trailed that same sky. The Classic 1957 Movie 12 Angry Men Delves In To A Panel The classic 1957 movie 12 Angry Men delves in to a panel of twelve jurors who are deciding the life or death fate of an eighteen year old italian boy accused of stabbing his father to death. The twelve men selected as jurors are a diverse group, each coming to the table with their own socioeconomic backgrounds, personal experiences, prejudice s, and all of this plays a role in the jurors attitudes and/or misconceptions of the accused young man. Juror Eight responds to Juror Four by saying, No. I m saying it s possible that the boy lost the knife and that someone else stabbed his father with a similar knife. It s possible. Along with the three appeals, Juror Eight also utilizes logical fallacies to prove a point with other jurors. Logical fallacies are repeatedly used by the jurors throughout the movie, and Juror Eight is no exception. After Juror Ten states that he believes the boy is guilty because of the testimony given by the woman who lives across the street, Juror Eight employs an Ad Hominem fallacy when he responds to Juror Ten by asking, I d like to ask you something: you don t believe the boy s story. Now that all of the participant s dispositions were categorized accordingly, the next step was to create equations that would evaluate a person s life expectancy at different points in their lives. Although several analyses were made during this experiment, the focal one was the hazard regression analysis. This analysis calculated mortality rate at all different ages by closely relating it to the personality dimension of the participant (Friedman, Tucker, Tomlinson Keasey, Schwartz amp; Wingard, 1993). After running through all the data and placing it in the appropriate equations, astounding results were revealed. As expected woman had a greater life expectancy then men, along with showing a mortality hazard rate that was two thirds the rate of men. On the 20th of January 1942, leading members of the Nazi party had met in Berlin to discuss how they could make the mass murder of all the Jewish people in Europe an organised and methodical procedure; this discussion would be known as the Final Solution of the Jewish Question . This essay will prove that the progressive development of German racial views and policies towards the Jewish people, did in fact led to the Final Solution, and ultimately an attempt at the mass genocide of the Jewish population all due to the absurd anti Semitic mind sets of the German people. In the 1920s, the Nazi party had come into power under Adolf Hitler s rule, who had begun to put in place the Nazi parties racial ideology. The Nazis had seen the German people as racially superior, and that anyone who wasn t German, was inferior and would interrupt the creation of the perfect human race, or what would be known as the Aryan race. The inferior people noticed by the Nazis were the; gypsies, Jews, poles and those of colour, however, the Jews were the main virus with regards to the Germans. The German people had the idea that the crisis in Germany and the hyperinflation of the Weimar republic occurred all due to the Jewish people, and what would really create an anti Semitic atmosphere, would be Germany s loss of world war one. While his presidency is deemed mostly unsuccessful in handling domestic affairs, such as unemployment and a sharp increase of inflation, Carter is well respected for his attempts to negotiate peace across the world. One of his better known attempts is the Camp David Accords, in which Carter brought Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat together to discuss peace between the two nations. While most Americans see the Camp David Accords as progress toward peace, Arab leaders felt the opposite. In an effort to establish himself and his knowledge with international affairs, Carter immersed himself in learning about the Middle East and did a tour in 1973 through Israel, Palestine, Egypt, and Syria. Before the Camp David Accords, the situation between Israel and every other Middle Eastern country was delicate and heightened by constant guerilla attacks back and forth. While Israel had Western support, their successive militant governments established settlements along the Jordan River as well as military occupation throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip pushing Palestinian refugees into Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and the edge of the Gaza Strip. While occupying Palestinian lands in 1967, the United Nations issued Resolution 242 calling for Israel to withdrawal from lands acquired by war and work toward peace as well as settling the refugee problem. ... A group of subjective experts evaluate face validity (Maribo, Pedersen, Jensen, Nielsen, 2016). Face validity can be utilized to motivate stakeholders within an organization. If stakeholders are not supportive of the results from face validity they will become disengaged. A reference is needed to determine an instrument s criterion related validity. Criterion related validity predicts the future. If a nursing program designed a measure to assess student learning throughout the program, a test such as the NCLEX would measure student s ability in this discipline. If the instrument produces the same result as the superior test the instrument has a high criterion related validity. This signal travels by way of the axon that contains schwann cells. The signal continues to move into the CNS, which causes signal to be sent to interneurons. The interneurons can send the signal through the peripheral system or to the brain via the spinal cord. When a skeletal muscle fires it is caused by a signal in a motor neuron. Voltage gated sodium channels open up after a threshold stimulus of 55mV is reached. Next, Sodium ions move into the cell membrane, thus depolarizing the cell at +30mV, which is its action potential. • 25. The Truth In David Eggers s The Circle By David Eggers In The Circle by David Eggers, all personal secrets are considered deception. Withholding the most insignificant opinion or experience is tantamount to a blatant lie. Therefore, the central character Mae deceives her viewers when she partakes in private conversations with her friend Annie. Eggers uses Mae s internal conflict over privacy and her eventual confession to express how idealism can delude an individual s morality. Mae s transparency causes her to discretely modify her behavior until she is no longer herself. She undergoes these slight behavior changes as a result of being watched by thousands every single day. After going transparent, she pays more attention to every little movement and decision she makes everything from what she eats to how she dresses. She makes these adjustments because being constantly surveilled makes her more self conscious and sensitive to other people s opinions. As a representative of the Circle to the whole entire world, she faces the pressure of presenting an image of perfection. This pressure to appear perfect every moment of every day results in the deterioration of both Mae s mental health and identity. However, the idealistic beliefs of the Circle prevent her from recognizing her new lifestyle as unhealthy. She convinces herself that being watched is a good kind of calibration for her personal habits. During this period, the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted the Old Deluder Act, forcing communities of fifty families or more to establish funds, and operate schools. Many didn t follow the law because they were not privileged as the wealthy communities were; therefore, many poor children remained uneducated unless they were taught by their families. According to Bayer Sampat, (2016), the Land Ordinance of 1875, and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 were passed requiring areas to establish schools. Thomas Jefferson and Dr. Benjamin Rush spoke in favor of a public education system, unfortunately it wasn t established until the nineteenth century. Moving forward, the United States public schools funding comes from the state, the federal government, and local communities. The appropriation of these funds varies according to several factors; however, the federal government only gives a fraction of these funds compared to the local and state governments. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in the United States, about 93% is funded via the state and local governments (Bayer Sampat, 2016). • 28. Disadvantages Of Deficit Spending Deficit spending is when there is an excess of government expenditures over the government revenue, creating a shortfall that must be financed through borrowing (Deficit Spending, 2014). To put this in other terms deficit spending is when the government needs to borrow money in order to pay for different government programs and other items of value. In the past deficit spending has been used when a country was facing a war or they needed to finance a building project. Deficit spending is also used to help pull a country out of a recession. The actions taken by the government during the late 1930s and early 1940s are a prime example of deficit spending. The United States were in the middle of the great depression and consumer spending had fallen drastically due to the number of people that found themselves unemployed and without money. In order to combat this drastic decrease in spending the government took on a number of projects that were meant to increase the overall spending. In order to spend more the government would have to borrow money. Once the country was out of the depression, and consumer spending began to grow, the idea was that the government would be able to pay back the money that they had borrowed. In order to determine if deficit spending is worth the cost a country needs to look at the advantages and disadvantages. One of the major advantages of deficit spending is the amount of revenue and jobs that are created in a time when the overall consumer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first movement started off with an eerie introduction, with the first two notes morphing into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very soothing, romantic time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does, what I came to believe it was a love story. The Allegro begins in the cello with the second Wayfarer song, Ging heut morgen Ubers Feld, (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a light and happy tone in the beginning as if two lovers had just met, this was the main theme of this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part maybe one of despair in paradise but that only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious ending of happily ever after.
