Machiavelli’s Views on Government Essay
At first glance Machiavelli s writings could be mistaken for evil and satanic beliefs, but in
reality there are many good underlying points as to how to rule a nation. I believe that the New
Yorker s description of Machiavelli is the best example of his life and beliefs, because it not only
touches upon the high points, but the low points of beliefs as well. The New Yorkergoes into great
detail about how Machiavelli came up from a mid level family to achieve a role as a government
official/ ambassador just to be thrown in prison after years of trying to stabilize and unify an
unstable country through means of war and fear. Machiavelli wasn t only a government official he
was a strategic genius, but only because as ambassador he had... Show more content on

For example, Machiavelli wrote about the young leader Borgia who conquered many nations in the
name of Spain. He explained how it was necessary for a prince... to work against what is merciful,
loyal, humane, upright, and scrupulous. . This makes a ruler look bad, however in reality what the
ruler does make a ruler look bad may improve the quality of the nations he is conquering and
ruling. Machiavelli wrote that Borgia conquered many nations, but these nations had weak
rulers, who had let the nations become over run with crime and filth, but once conquered by
Borgia and his men were brought up to a good quality standard with less crime and more peace
and order, due to the enforcement of Spanish law. That is why Machiavelli s misconceived
writings were actually meant to show that even though a ruler may look bad in people s eyes, his
actions actually create good within the nations he controls. A more recent example of a leader who
would fit under Machiavelli s theory was Adolf Hitler. Hitler was an extremist whose views should
never be tolerated, but in reality he had helped his people get out of an economic depression and
improved the quality of life for many Germans. What Machiavelli is trying to imply is to be a good
leader isn t to be the most well liked person, but to get results that improve people s lives even if
you have to be seen in a negative light. I do

Essay about Enviornmental Policy processes
Environmental Policy
There s a Snake Eating my Dog!
The environmental stepwise process is a process people take to implement, assess, and interpret
environmental related policies. The first step is to identify the problem, this is rather simple
because there are lots of problems in our day day lives. Next you have to Pinpoint the roots of the
problem, followed by envisioning a solution for these problems. Now, a particular issue could have
multiple causes, and thus multiple solutions. The you will get organized; when it comes to
influencing policy, organizations are usually more successful than individual people are. The next
step is the hardest, To cultivate access and influence. If you have a moving issue, influencing won t

The government tends to look at things based on an economical standpoint that tends to run biased
as they tend to ignore the moral/ethical aspects of the issue at hand. However, citizens and
businesses tend to APPEAR on the same side of the fence because businesses will do anything to
give the customers, or citizens what they want. However, the sad reality is that many businesses
Greenwash their products into seeming more environmentally friendly.
In our everglades and the surrounding areas of Florida, there is an ever growing issue taking
place. This is an issue that many people are aware of and fear. They fear for their lives but should
they be afraid? Many people think that large constrictors are dangerous to humans, but little do
people understand that they are JUST as dangerous as a feral cat or dog. I m not saying you should
go pick up a wild burmese python and take it home as a pet. However, what I am saying, is there
have been some major overreactions to the invasion of large constrictors.
The large constrictor issue is suspected to have began with a breeding facility for large
constrictors in the everglades. What happened was a complete accident. As common practice
breeders keep their snakes in tubs on large racks, and it is rumored that during a hurricane the tubs
of his breeding stock were knocked over and the large constrictors released into the everglades
where they have since learned to

Democracy As A Best Solution, And Underlying Capitalist...
Democracy has morphed in the face of time due to exterior forces which in turn have impacted the
understanding of what democracy in action should look like. Technology, education, religious
decay and rise, and many other facets of modern life have overwhelmed the understanding of what
democracy is. Simply engaging with the concept of democracyis in itself an acceptance of values
and assumptions about what governments, and many times economies, should look like. But this
paper hardly allows for alternative approach, so the mindset and concepts proposed are a result of
the acceptance of western understandings of governance, the natural arrival of democracy as a best
solution, and underlying capitalist forces which populates democracy at its core, from Locke to the
American founding fathers.
So the question becomes what democracy actually looks like in the real world. For as lofty or
revolutionary as the founders might have been in their goals, American democracy, now and
then, has never been as good as what it looks on paper. The evolutional lens of democracy is then
one of both how one arrives at governance and what does democracy stand for. Is it having
elections, which might or might not be free in nature? Is it torturing and discriminating against its
own citizens? Bending to the popular will of the majority? Protecting minorities? Seeing all as
equal in the eyes of the law? Is it none of the above? This really becomes then a question of the
cause and consequences of

Computer Security And Social Engineering
Computer Security and Social Engineering In terms of computer security, Social Engineering
refers to the psychological manipulation of people in order to access confidential information.
It is believed that it can be easier to trick people than to hack into their computing system by
force. Social engineers gather personal information or gain access to computers by exploiting
people s natural tendency to want to trust others and be helpful. Some methods that are used by
social engineers to gain information are via email, the internet or even by phone to trick people
into revealing sensitive information or get them to do something that goes against the company
s policy. Social engineering has been an effective method of committing fraud for centuries.
Recently, however, it has been used more and more to assist criminals in perpetrating crimes
that can net large sums of money. Without one social engineering method or another, most
current attacks would not be successful [11] . Employees are an organization s weakest link and
social engineering attacks are only limited by the creativity of the perpetrator, which relies on
the gullibility of people. In this paper we discuss some of the most common types of social
engineering attacks that are widely used. We will also cover how to defend ourselves from these
attacks and why these attacks work in today s society. By following the money trail, we ll also
shed light on how lucrative this business can be as well as why people

Global Expansion And The Conquest Of The Aztec Empire
Global expansion has been a large topic covered by historians for hundreds of years. The
development of independent countries establishing trade, business, and military powers had led to
the development and advancement of all the continents. The purpose of exploration, conquest and
governmental power are common themes that are shared among the powers of 16th century
Europe. With unexplored land and unknown inhabitants, the desire and race for expansion were a
primary purpose of European nations. Inhabitants of these new lands had established cultures,
religions, and social lives. Little documentation is to be found on native people of the North
American continent, the majority had no written language or were completely illiterate. Any
written records kept were kept in the writings of the victors. Understanding expansionism and
conquest can be told differently by many different scholars. Their evaluations can be one sided as
there is no other story upon documentation that can be evaluated. HernГЎndo Cortes and the
Conquest of the AztecEmpire was to be evaluated as the ruthless, war monger who sought power
and control and treasure in the name of the King of Spain. CortГ©s would invade a new piece of
land inhabited by cultures of Indians to seize fame and fortune. His military efforts along with the
help of other native tribal allies destroyed an Empire of the largest capacity. Reasoning and
purpose for the invasion can only be told as a conquistador laying claim on

The s Leadership Style During World War II
William Frederick Halsey, Jr., was the South Pacific Fleet Admiral during World War II, His passion
for naval aviation helped save the community and provide national support from the American
people back home. He was the major source of moral during the war for the American people, and
always produced results whenever and wherever it was needed. Although Halsey s leadership style
has been disputed more often than not, his decisions and role as Fleet Admiral during World War
II served greatly in the American victory over Japan. HALSEY HELPED TIP THE BALANCE OF
POWER IN THE PACIFIC DURING THE EARLY STAGES OF WORLD WAR II DURING 1942
1943, AND ESTABLISH THE IMPORTANCE OF AVIATION AS A COMMUNITY IN THE
NAVY. William Halsey was raised with the influence of the Navy from birth. He was born on
October 30th, 1882 in New Jersey into a military family. His father was an officer in the Navy,
and a distant relative, Captain John Halsey, served as an English privateer during Queen Anne s
war 1703 1713. Halsey was essentially born into the navy, and was influenced by the service at such
a young age. His boldness outspoken nature was first demonstrated at an early age when he had
trouble receiving admission into the United States Naval Academy, and did not want to accept no
for an answer. What distinguished Halsey was the determination that he exhibited to get there...he
immediately started writing letters to anyone who might help, including one plea to President

Advantage and Disadvantage of Conditional Fee Agreements
COMMON LAW REASONING AND INSTITUTION RESEARCH ESSAY: STUDENT:
Abdulla Shafeeg Ali STUDENT NUMBER: 070391545 CANDIDATE NUMBER: 32188 3.
Analyse the advantages and disadvantages of conditional fee arrangements for legal aid. A
conditional fee arrangement is basically a form of risk sharing whereby if the lawyer loses the
case, the client does not have to pay. However, if the case is won, the lawyer can be recompensed
through a success fee, which is worked out as a percentage of his cost. In the US, many cases have
been funded this way but in English legal system conditional fee arrangement had been banned
until the enactment of the Courts and Legal Service Act 1990. Under the Access to Justice Act
1999 conditional fees form an important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another area which could be hit is that of cases which have enormous public importance, but
which need large amounts of work, are difficult to win, and may attract relatively low levels of
damages even if successful. These include some types of action against the police and
Government, such as complaints by prisoners about their treatment. The Act does address these
issues in that it provides for cases in excluded categories to be funded in exceptional
circumstances; it remains to be seen whether this will be sufficiently flexible in practice.
Another disadvantage is unfair trials. Where legal aid is refused, a trial may prove to be unfair
of one party is represented but the other is not. This is potentially a breach of Article 6 of the
European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), which guarantees the right to fair trial. In
Steel v UK (2005) (or common known as the McLibel Two), Ds were environmental
campaigners who were charged with defamation for disturbing leaflet criticizing nutritional
content of McDonald s fast food. Ds were refused legal aid because it is not generally available
for defamation cases. They were unrepresented (save for limited assistance from sympathetic
lawyers) whereas McDonald s was represented by a team of lawyers. Ds were found liable. They
challenged the fairness of UK proceedings in the European Court of Human Rights. The challenge
was successful. The European Court held that the Ds had not had a fair

Interest Rates and Other Critical Determinants of...
Interest Rates and Other Critical Determinants of Investment Spending in Bangladesh
Background
Investment, which is a spending devoted to enhancing or maintaining the existing stock of capital
in the economy provides goods and services necessary for better standard of living. Moreover, it has
greater importance as a policy tool. Policymakers often try to achieve target growth in GDP by
influencing the level of investment. They do so by undertaking policies that influence the rate of
interests. The underlying assumption is that investment is negatively related with the rate of
investment.
Historically, economic theories have suggested negative relationship between investment and
interest rates. Changes in either nominal or real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To investigate the impact of interest rates on investment spending, we use a simple regression
function for the two variables but add several slightly different variables. The starting point of
model formulation is;
I= f (LR, SR, S, Y, ER)В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В… (1)
Where, I = Investment LR= Interest rate on loans SR= Interest rate on savings S= Gross Domestic
Savings Y= GDP ER= Exchange rate
Investment is not a function of interest rate alone. Factors like income, savings, and saving rate
along with lending rate are important issues in setting the level of investment. That is why we need
to incorporate all of them in the regression function and test the marginal impact of each of them on
investment.
Accordingly, the estimating equation used in this study is;
where, the term e is the stochastic error term that captures the impact of all other variables not
included in the model.
Model Validation
The coefficient , which gives the change in investment due to one unit change in lending rate is
expected to be negative. Other slope coefficients ( are expected to have positive values since their
associated variables, interest on savings, savings, and income respectively should influence
investment positively. The coefficient can take positive or negative values depending on how a
rising trend in exchange rates influence the level of domestic saving. The expected impact is
determined by the

Human Nature, Law, And Justice In Utopia By Sir Thomas More
Human nature, Law, and Justice in Utopia
Utopia, Book I by Sir Thomas More begins with the narrator, More, that is traveling around
Northern Europe as an ambassador for England and ends up in Antwerp. While he was in
Antwerp, he met up with a good friend of his Peter Giles. One day he finds Giles conversing
with a bearded man. Soon Giles introduces him to this man, Raphael Hythloday. Hythloday is a
philosopher and travels to different places around the world. After More and Hythloday meet,
More is intrigued by the stories Hythloday has to say. The three of them all go to Giles house for
supper and a long chat. Hythloday then describes about the many voyages he has been on along
with Amerigo Vespucci, a famous Italian explorer. They have traveled to the New World, South of
the Equator, through Asia and then mentions how he ended up in an island called Utopia. He then
describes the different societies in the variety of countries he has gone to. Giles and More come
to the conclusion that Hythloday will be a great counselor to a king. Hythloday rejects their idea
and begins telling the story of when he once had a dinner with Cardinal Morton and others.
Throughout this dinner he proposed a variety of ways for punishing people who break the laws.
They refuse his proposals. He uses this story by showing More and Giles how useless it is to
counsel a king or prince when his other counsels agree with the king s beliefs and policies. He tells
other different stories to prove his

An Author s Credibility In The Academic Discourse...
An Author s Credibility In The Academic Discourse Community
The academic discourse community has certain expectations about an argument which make the
work convincing and credible to members of the community. Before the work is even considered
however, the community has expectations of the author. The author must fulfill these expectations
in order to be considered credible or convincing. Some general criteria for an author in the
academic discourse community include having a voice in the work, credentials and experience that
make him or her qualified to write on the subject, a sense of professionalism about them shown in
the tone and diction of the work, and a balanced view of all sides of the issue. In the case of author

The delayed and half hearted attempt at a thesis is not a good feature of an argument according
to the academic discourse community. The second error that Cave makes is that he looses his
voice in the paper as a whole. Short though it is, Cave still manages to stuff no less than eleven
sources in his article. While a wide variety and scope of outside sources in not intrinsically bad,
on the contrary it usually is desirable, summarizing the sources rather than having them back up
his own ideas is where Cave goes wrong. There are 21 paragraphs total in Cave s article, only 5
of which contain his own voice. At a scanty 24% appearance rate, the academic discourse
community would be sure to note the lack of the author s voice. Both the tardy, weak thesis and
the overkill of sources as compared to Cave s own voice make the reader question his credibility as
an author.
A strong voice of the author is present in John E. Calfee s article entitled How Advertising
Informs to Our Benefit . First, Calfee has a clear and strong thesis that appears early in the article.
His statement, ...the truth is that people find advertising very useful indeed shows the clear
position that he has take and appears in the very first paragraph of the article. This early evidence
of voice reassures the reader that the author is confident and knows what he is talking about. He

psychosexual theory and its relationship to adult neurotic behaviour as well as looking at the
criticisms of Freudian theory.
According to Freud personality is mostly established by the age of five. Early experiences play a
large role in personality development and continue to influence behaviour later on in life.
Freud s theory of psychosexual development is one of the best known, but also one of the most
controversial. Freud believed that personality develops through a series of childhood stages during

young girls. Freud believed that girls experienced penis envy.
Eventually the child begins to identify with the same sex parent as a means of vicariously
possessing the other parent. For girls Freud believed that penis envy was never fully resolved and
that all women remain fixated on this stage. Psychologists such as Karen Horney disputed this
theory, saying it is both inaccurate and demeaning to women. Horney suggested that men
experienced feelings of inferiority because they cannot give birth to children.

The Golden Age Of A Civil War Across China Essay
Daoism appeared as a reaction to a civil war across China, known as the warring states period,
which caused a wide feeling of civil unrest. The war went on for nearly two hundred and fifty
years and spread across the Zhou Dynasty, which was divided into eight separate states. Daoist
believed that war was a result of excessive desire, and only through modest desire will people and
the state experience peace and unity. Daoist argued that desire and all actions must be natural,
and we must return to nature to establish our balance. We must return to nature and to a time like
the Golden Age, that came before the Zhou Empire and the warring states. The Golden Age
refers to a more simple time in life, in which people had relied on agriculture in small villages
with a trusted government that also followed the way, causing a balance and unity. To manifest
this simplicity and selflessness naturally is the Dao, which is the way of all things. Though in
today s world we have strayed far from nature, for reason and excessive desires have corrupted
people and their values. Daoist would believe that our society is unbalanced ,and we must return to
the path of the Dao to restore our unity. We must behave naturally and act modestly in order to find
the way, but like the opposing states in the Zhou Dynasty, we have excessive desires causing
unnatural behaviors. These unnatural behaviors keep many people from finding the way, but the

Environment And Human Environment
Ecosystems is the dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro organism communities and their
non living environment that work together to form a functional unit and they are constantly
changing due to the fluctuating equilibrium from natural stress and human action which has had
adversarial impacts on ecosystems. This is evident in Minnamurra rainforest as human induced
modifications and environmental stresses had resulted in a vulnerable ecosystem. Furthermore, the
removal of factors that contribute to the vulnerability of an ecosystem is important as it affect the
functioning of the ecosystem as processes are accelerated, biodiversityis decreased which greatly
affects humans. Despite the negative effects caused by humans, they have discovered that
ecosystems are susceptible from harm caused by natural environmental factors or human impacts
and realised the importance of protecting and managing ecosystems therefore have implemented
management strategies that are supposed to prevent further detriment and as a consequence may
induce resiliency.
Within Minnamurra rainforest all biophysical components rely on each other, for example changes
to the lithosphere (gaseous elements surrounding the earth), can cause stress to the flora and fauna
within the ecosystem and impact other abiotic factors. Human interaction has also caused many
detrimental impacts on the ecosystem through changes in lithospheric processes. For instance
littering can bring unwanted diseases that can affect

Comparison Of Blake s Songs Of Innocence And Songs Of...
When regarding the different options I had in comparing two of the works we have already read
this semester, my mind automatically went to William Blake s Songs of Innocence and Songs
of Experience. Blake s examination of the duality of a single subject s nature lends itself
perfectly to a close reading such as this. When looking at the different options available to me in
Blake s volumes, Holy Thursday (both the Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience
versions) demonstrated this duality clearly. The subject in Holy Thursday stays the same,
however, the nature of the subject is drastically different in each poem. In both Songs of
Innocence and Songs of Experience, the poem titled Holy Thursday occurs on Holy Thursday.
This was a special service at St. Paul s Cathedral in London, which was held on the first Thursday
in May. The tradition started in 1782, and this special service was held for the poorest children in
London. These children would be brought to the church by their parish officers, serving
approximately six thousand children. Both poems focus on this procession of children to the
cathedral, describing the state of the children and the varying attitudes towards the event itself.
These varying attitudes are what divides these poems that are so similar in content to two
drastically different creations. In Songs of Innocence, Holy Thursday opens with a picture of a
bright, cheery, and exciting event. Blake chooses crisp and clear language to describe the

Practitioners should check for Kitemarks and CE markings. Kitemarks are symbols that show
products have been tested and meet the British Standard Institute requirements. CE markings
show that products meet European standards as set out by the European Community. Children
also need to communicate and socialise with their peers, children from other age groups and
other adults. They need to feel safe and secure in their environment so that they feel able to speak
to adults about any concerns they may have, or to ask questions and seek help without fear of
embarrassment. They need good role models who can help them extend their decision making
skills and develop independence appropriate to their age and development level. Practitioners have
a further responsibility to provide additional support to children who may have special educational
needs. This may be through individual sessions within the school, liaison with external services
such as educational psychologists or through the CAF (Common Assessment Framework) process.
The CAF process was developed to gather and assess information in relation to a child s needs in

We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay
INTRODUCTION
I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a
lot to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution
that has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this
district would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry
about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron.
Purpose
Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no
dates as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high
schools would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high
school in or near these districts.
Problem
Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already
owns the property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when
you have a property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an
excellent choice property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our
tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools
in the community of Akron.
Scope
My proposal for a solution to the problem is to build a new learning center on the site occupied

Sonnet X By John Donne Analysis
Socrates once said: [...]For anything that men can tell, death may be the greatest good that can
happen to them: but they fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And
what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know? ( Socrates
) Sonnet X by John Donnediscusses the idea that people fear deathwithout just cause, simply
because humans are terrified of that which they cannot comprehend. In his poem, Donne
communicates this messages by means of conceit, personification, and witty wordplay.
Donne is known for writing metaphysical poetry; his writing included lots of conceits, and Sonnet
X is no exception. The metaphysical conceit featured in this poem compares death to sleep. From
rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, / Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
(Donne. Lines 5 6) This couplet articulates that, because death is merely a stronger, much more
permanent version of sleep, it should not be feared; if sleep is pleasurable, then why should
death not be viewed similarly? After all, as Donne continues in lines 11 and 12, sleep induced
by drugs such as opium, which is derived from poppies, and charms can provide rest akin to or
even better than death. So why then, the speaker asks in line 12, is Death so prideful? The
following mention of sleep takes a religious angle; One short sleep past, we wake eternally (Line
13) refers to the interim between a person s death and Judgement Day, when the soul proceeds to
Heaven to live eternally, provided the person lived a righteous lifestyle. Thus, this line means that
death is not the end, per se, but rather the beginning of eternal life in Heaven. While Donne was
not the first to compare death and sleep, this conceit helps communicate that death should not be
feared, for it is much the same as sleep, and marks the beginning of one s eternal stay in the Pearly
Gates.
Wordplay and wit are abundant in Sonnet X; in several instances, the word death is used in three
different ways in the same line! The poem is an apostrophe, the speaker is directing his words at
Death, so obviously, there is personification throughout. This, along with metaphors and other
figures of speech, allows

According to the Singapore consumer watchdog, there have been an increasing number of
complaints against tuition agencies in the country. With the given situation, the quality of education
is then compromised. Several agencies remain to be unregulated, making and following their own
rules. Given the standard regulations and procedures, owners still remain to be deviant. Others
owners are informed however, that they still manage to overlook the standards. To serve as a
guideline, the following is a discussion on the standard procedures on how to set up a tuition agency
in Singapore.
Two Methods to Register
Basically, there are two methods of registration: 1) smart and paper forms and 2) electronic
registration.
The first method requires ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CPE Requirement
1. Evidence of Registration by ACRA
All the relevant documents from ACRA must be forwarded to CPE for compliance. Without the
requirements, the applicants cannot move forward to further registration procedures. One of the
requirements checked is the tuition agency for proprietary. The proprietary name is integrated with
academy, school, or education to be labelled as a place of learning.
The CPE makes sure that no two tuition agencies have the same name, otherwise parents and
students will be confused. Association with the government such as the inclusion of Singapore,
nations or government is also discouraged.
2. Details of the Agency Managers
A list of the ruling body for the tuition agency must also be identified. The managers are the same
with the listed directors of the business as registered by ACRA. A full personal detail in the
Declaration Form is required. In case of the issues, this form serves as a proof for accountability of
the managers. It is also used for scrutiny.
3. Suitability of the Agency Premises
The agency premise is more on the infrastructure allotted by the tuition agency. Much like in every
educational institution, there is a minimum space for classrooms and administrative duties. Aside
from the enclosures, CPE also requires all the premises to be danger free. In fact, CPE ensures that

INTRODUCTION
The growing dependence of many countries, especially the USA and Europe on the imported oil
and the daily increase of oil price and the heightened concern on the global warming and the
environmental pollutions which has forced many car manufacturing companies to study the new
and innovative techniques in solving this very important issue.
Toyota as the world s third car manufacturing company and the first in Japan has introduced a new
era in the vehicles history.
Initial hydrogen, fuel cell and pure electric vehicles were not much successful as they were all

CONVINCING CONSUMERS:
The main issue on Hybrid vehicles was that most of consumers did not believe it as a real car.
Overtime, Toyota succeeded to convince the automobile buyers that Toyota Priusis a real, usable
and efficient hybrid car.
DRIVING RESPONSIBILITY.
Toyota Prius has been equipped with a monitoring system which helps the driver to know how to
run his/her car to have a better function and reduce the fuel usage and save more energy. This helps
the driver to feel responsible on his/her driving and to maximize the car fuel efficiency.
LONG TERM PLAN BEFORE LAUNCHING THE PRODUCT:
Although Toyota invented this new hybrid vehicle more than ten years ago, it did not offer the car
to the USA consumers immediately. The main reason was that Toyota was aware of the new
technology challenges. While Toyota was on the market research and new product development,
other companies were focusing on merger and acquisition. Brand recognition, technology changes
and improvement take several years to finish and Toyota wanted to launch a product which has
cleared all the possible obstacles such as space, efficiency, speed, safety, weight which can meet all
consumers expectations.
MAINTAINS ITS COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES OVER COMPETITORS
The introduction of Toyota Prius was not just a short term goal. Toyota had much broader goals.

President Of The United States
His power, his passion, is the fabric of America. And it s woven by work ethic and dreams and
drive and faith in the Almighty, what a combination. (S, Palin) Donald Trump is powerful,
persuasive and risky. As a candidate for President of the United States, Trump stands strong to
purported morals. His campaign video depicts him as the ultimate candidate ; an individual is
who has the ability to stand up for middle class American s yet be strong enough to institute
change, which the Obama administration has been perceived as failing to do. However we are
also able to see how Trump has used his power to shape his ideal self into something he is not.
Someone who uses codes and signifiers in his favour to fabricate new ideas and conventions.
Donald Trump has a strident voice, but those who stand with him appear silent in stark contrast.
The reason for this being that Trump s campaign, even down to his fan base, is centred on
oppression. His goal is to appeal to middle class, white citizens who feel that they have been
deprived of the American Dream. That is; the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal
opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative
(Oxford Dictionaries). He targets this subgroup and directs their resentment to the people who have
tarnished this American Dream . For example, Trump has voiced that he wants to deport all
Mexicans and build a wall between the borders demonstrating his strong motive to

How Did Religion Affect European Society
The birth of modern science created conflict between religion and science in European societies.
With the conflicts, the people had started to question the church. These conflicted changes between
religion and science, had positively impacted the common people and had greatly damaged the
stability of the church itself. The idea that everything was to be perfect affected the communities of
the people. The ideas that the church had displayed in decades past, rejected any further discoveries
or advancements that they didn t see fit.
The geocentric model created by Ptolemy, and the heliocentric model created by Copernicus, had
greatly differed in which force of being (the sun or the earth,) was the center of the universe.

Aristotle was a Greek astronomer who theorized that the moon and the stars were made of pure
and perfect substance, and that they were perfect spheres. Galileo had differed in his discovery of
the moon and the stars, they were in fact, not perfect. According to the artist of the cartoon, Galileo
had discovered that the moon was rough and had craters. The Catholic church had not liked his
discovery, compared to Aristotle s claim, because he proved that not everything was not ideal to
their opinions or beliefs. The Catholic church perhaps believed in Aristotle s discovery more so,
because it showed that everything was in unison with each other. Galileo and Copernicus were one
in the same, as their opinions and theories went against the Catholic church s knowledge of the
world and everything around it. Once again, science was rejected over religion. (document three.)
The Catholic church rejected any further scientific knowledge, if not based on ideal reasoning.
Everything had to be perfect, and this affected the communities beliefs of what was right, and what

Melisman Vs. Freeman Summary
Stakeholders encase all individuals and groups who in one way or another are impacted by the
presence, successes, or failure of a business. Employees, suppliers, managers, the community,
customers, competition, the government, and stockholders are all considered, in the broadest
sense, to be stakeholders. Stockholders, unlike the rest, in addition to being stakeholders, are their
own little group. Stockholders are the owners or public and private limited companies. Companies
have the right to restrict ownership, and spread it over as few or as many individuals as they wish.
Stockholders own pieces of the company and with that have a vested interest in the financial
growth of the company. Money speaks, and in all cases, with the exception of eleemosynary
companies, the owners are most concerned with making profit. Together stakeholders and
stockholders comprise all crucial groups in businessaffairs. Business theories plot the two against
each other, as business can only be managed to favorably manage one of the two. Edward Freeman

Within the same idea, Freeman also pointed out that the same was true with customer service.

The Pros And Cons Of The Crusades
The Crusades were a series of wars inspired by conflicting religious ideologies, specifically
between Christians and Muslims. A series being, that between the years 1096 and 1291, nine major
military expeditions occurred. Christian Muslim interactions between the 1000 1500 centuries were
mostly negative then positive. The justification for war included securing and gaining control of the
holy lands or territories sacred to both groups (Damascus, The River Jordan, Jerusalem, and
numerous others) and to diffuse or universalize their religious ideologies to those living in the
eastern hemisphere. Jerusalem was considered the holiest of all sites, because it was significantly
important to both religions, in different ways. To Christians, Jerusalem represents; the place of
birth, ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the Savior or Messiah to
Christianity. However, to Muslims, Jerusalem houses the Al Aqsa Mosque (the third holiest site in
Islam), in which they believe Muhammad was transported to during the Night Journey (a physical
and spiritual journey) from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca. Islamic hero or leader of the Crusades,
Saladin, is credited with re conquesting Jerusalem from the Christians, uniting Muslim fractions

Bio of Steven King Stephen King
Stephen Edwin King was born September 21, 1947in Portland, Maine, U.S. He is an American
novelist and short story writer whose many novels and story collections, and the numerous films
adapted from this large body of work, have established his reputation as the leading author of horror
fictions in contemporary literature, and with reviving the genre of horror fiction in the late 20th
century.
King graduated from the University of Maine in 1970 with a bachelor s degree in English. Abused
by a fanatically religious mother and ridiculed by her classmates, Carrie was the first of many
novels in which King blended horror, the macabre, fantasy, and science fiction. Among such works

King s stories reverberate with subtexts. Carrie resonates with a residual dread of the women s
liberation movement. Salem s lot reflects America s post Watergate fear that corruption exists on
every level of society. Thinner (1984), published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, applies
conspicuous consumption with the curse of anorexia nervosa. King typically adapts his
metaphors from the stock repertoire of horror fiction. IT (1986) shows childhood fears in the
form of such classic Universal Studio movie monsters as Frankenstein, Wolfman, and the Mummy.
In Misery (1987) King, not hesitating to be self referential, pictures a successful writer kidnapped
by a crazily devoted fan. The Dark Half (1989) fictionalizes his use of the Richard Bachman
pseudonym, as a horror writer s pen name becomes a threat to his existence.
King s major contribution to horror literature is to situate it within the general anxieties of
contemporary life. His focus is not on vampires, werewolves and such but on ordinary people
faced with these horrors and the darker horrors of the lost jobs, disintegrating families, mental
breakdown, and all the other fears that haunt the atomic age. His novels vindicate the dreads of that
age.
King also wrote the short stories collected in Night Shift (1978), as well as several novellas and
motion picture screenplays. Some of his novels were successfully adapted for the screen by such
directors as Brian De

Examples Of Archetype In Beowulf
Beowulf was an epic poem that embodied many of the themes of the time period that it was
written. Many ideas such as the obsession was wealth, power, and fame are well documented
throughout history. While Beowulf was certainly fiction, there is no reason that the unknown
creator of the epic would not have taken elements from the surrounding culture to enrich the story.
This theory would justify the recurring elements of masculine male warriors and a lack of women
as anything other than wives or bargaining chips. It is no secret that women have not always been
treated as equals, especially in a time where most societies were patriarchal. All of the ancient
societies also tend to have their legends and heroes. Beowulfwas simply an exaggeration... Show

A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
A Midsummer NIght s Dream A Midsummer Night s Dream is a classical play written by
William Shakespeare. It is one of his more eccentric piece of work. The play is about the
struggle of love between four essential characters: Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius , and Helena.
However, it is not quite that simple. The play is quite confusing. In Midsummer Night s dream
the play take place in two realms fairy realm and human realm, two of the three main settings.
Another one of the settings take place inside the cottage of a carpenter Peter Quince. At one point
during the play the realms converge Making it difficult for the audience to distinguish the
difference between reality and illusion within the play. This is one of the many reasons the play
is interesting or appealing. Also to add on, the symbolism of the tile and moon, and comedic
elements within the play serves engage and intrigue. The beginning of the play begins in Athen
during the light of day, reality. It is here we are introduced to the first six of essential characters:
Theseus, Hippolyta, Egeus, Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, and Helena. Here we learn that Theseus
and Hippolyta are getting, however, they are not happy as one might think. Now, Egeus, the father
of Hermia insists she marries Demetrius, one of her two suitors. However, Hermia does not want
to marry Demetrius, she loves Lysander. On the other hand, Helena loves Demetrius, he does not

Markets And International Monetary Fund
Markets Want Greece in the Eurozone The fickleness of financial markets is a constant source of
both frustration and amazement, particularly in the Eurozone. Having started last week concerned
about the ramifications of a resounding No vote in Greece s referendum about bailout terms
imposed by the Troika, there was a strong rally in anticipation of deal eventually being signed
between Greece and her creditors. Markets have, therefore, seemingly taken the view that the best
known outcome is for Greece to remain in the single currency, regardless of the imperfections of
any agreement. In the absence of substantial debt write downs, however, the situation facing Greece
remains dire. Both the US and International Monetary Fund (IMF) have... Show more content on

Thus, this highlights the utter hypocrisy of the current negotiations surrounding Greece: both
France and Germany, in fact, conveniently ignored the rules for the fiscal convergence criteria

sustainability of the current membership of euro has, therefore, not been laid to rest.
Understanding Events in China Events in China took on a new level of intensity last week as
the authorities attempted to stabilise the equity market. The weakness appears to be event drive
as opposed to being the result of economic malaise. In fact, recent economic data out of China
suggests that recent stimulus measures appear to have had some traction. The event in question
appears to be a large margin call being made by one of the main regulatory authorities. Recently,
I mentioned that margin debt as a percentage of GDP was a relatively high 8%. The problem
facing the authorities was sourcing where the trouble was emanating from. Margin debt can be
originated from two sources: 1) licensed brokers, and 2) the so called grey market within the
shadow banking system. The origination split is roughly 50/50 between the two sectors. This is
where the similarities end. At licensed brokers, margin credit can only be extended for up

Spinoza On Substance Monism
The stance that Spinoza has on substance is that there is only one substance, out of which all else
is somehow constituated. Substance for the Stoics, is also seen as a monist philosophy. Because
Stoics think of the world as a unitary system that contains all beings they should be considered
substance monism. This is often cited as the clearest example of how Spinoza was most influenced
by Stoic philosophy. However, Spinoza states that there is only one substance, but further from that,
he unambiguously signals that understanding it is a prerequisite to understanding the
epistemological, psychological, and moral issues where as for the Stoics this is not completely
obvious; nor it is obvious that they place substance at the basis of all philosophical investigation.
From the Stoic view, they do make philosophical investigation being with nature: we must first
learn about it before we can advance to logic and ethics. So upon initial thought, one might think
although they may not call it substance, the Stoics do have nature and its conceptual and
argumentative status seems similar to that of Spinozistic substance. Therefore, because the Stoics
have a concept that is equivalent in key respects to Spinoza s substance, the differences that I stated
above may appear not so great after all.
What lies at the heart of Stoic monism is the intuition that the world constitutes a genuine and well
integrated whole, but by contrast, Spinozistic monism is held to be based on either

Sentiment analysis is a technique for tracking the mood or sentiment of the public for a particular
product or incident. Sentiment analysis is also called as opinion mining and it involves in making
of a machine that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sentiment analysis concentrates on attitudes, whereas the traditional method of text mining mainly
focuses on the analysis of facts. There are few main fields of research in Sentiment analysis:
sentiment classification, feature based sentiment classification and opinion summarization.
Sentiment classification deals with classifying entire document according to the opinions shown
with respect to a certain object. While feature based sentiment classification considers the opinions
on the features of a certain object. Opinion summarization task is different compared to traditional
text summarization because only the features of the product are examined on which the customers
have expressed their opinions via any social media. Opinion summarization does not summarize the
reviews by selecting a subset or rewriting some of the original sentences from the reviews to capture

Mental Disorders And The United States
Mental disorders affect many people throughout the United States. Although it is not a direct link to
criminal behavior, it is a major risk factor and oftentimes criminal offenders are found to have them.
Mental disorders cause their victims delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, and aggression. The
definition of mental disorder is a vast number of mental conditions, ranging from the mild to the
serious that impede one s ability to function. Sometimes with the more serious disorders may
absolve an individual of criminal responsibility (Bartol, A Bartol, C, 2014). There are several
different kinds of mental disorders including but not limited to schizophrenia, psychopathy,
depressive disorders, and antisocial personality disorder(Bartol, A Bartol, C, 2014). In this paper,
each different kind of mental disorder will be discussed along with the discussing the fallacy of
the public believing that many people get off with the not guilty by reason of insanity plea. It is
hypothesized that individuals who display mental disorders are at a greater risk to commit
criminal offenses. The literature reviews that follow describe each type of mental disorder and
types of crimeas a result of them. They will also describe the not guilty by reason of insanity plea.
Schizophrenia crime There are several different subtypes of schizophrenics which include the
disorganized type, catatonic type, paranoid type, undifferentiated type, and the residual type. Of all
these types, the paranoid

The Effects of Black Death
The Effects of Black Death
Black death was a bubonic plague, which took the lives of millions of people in the mid 1300s.
This plague was caused by a bacterium called Yersinia pestis, which lived in fleas. Therefore,
transmitting the bacteria to its rodent hosts every time they would feed. The bacteria then killed
the rodents leaving the fleas without hosts to feed on and in result they would feed on the
humans. (Bailey 7 12) Most people who were infected would last two to three days before they
died, no longer than two to three weeks. The plague moved rapidly, medical researchers believe it
could have moved as fast as eight to twelve miles a day. The plague was first encountered in China
and it spread through Asia and into Europe in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His justification was that his wife was old and she would cause no suspicion. (212) The standards
and requirements of the Church had lowered tremendously. Placing men in high places whose
intentions were immoral. The priests knew the demand there was for them therefore, they raised
their fees to make more money. The fees had gone so high that the people began to complain to the
archbishop of Canterbury Simon Islip, an he in response issued the constitution Effrenata on May
28th, 1350, which it aimed to keep the priests from charging excessive amounts of money for their
services during the plague. The constitution was called Effrenata because that was the first word of
the document, which it meant, unbridled as in unbridled greed of the human race . Islip s intention
to help the people through the constitution of Effrenata did not have much success due to greedy
priests taking advantage of those in need. (Byrne 68)
Another aspect of life that was highly affected was society. During the plague and after the plague
society s values and faith began to change. When the Black Death began taking the lives of the
clergy just as well as everyone else, society began to wonder if the clergy were as powerful and
as united to God as they had once believed, because no matter their prayer the plague was still
raging. The people lost faith in the clergy and by the end of the plague the Church had lost its
authority, not only for the reason

Florida Panthers Draft Review
2015 NHL Draft: Florida Panthers Draft Review The Florida Panthers are on the verge of an
identity crisis after missing the playoffs again for the 13th time in 14 seasons. For a fanbase that
has only seen the playoffs four times since the team s inception in 1993, General Manager Dale
Tallon is facing a critical turning point for the franchise. The Panthers have young talent like Aaron
Ekblad, Jonathan Huberdeau, Aleksander Barkov, among others but they haven t been able to gain
traction thanks to questionable decision making from the front office. The Panthers have
stockpiled prospects and are starting to reap the rewards of their patience, and the 2015 NHL
Entry Draft was a critical time as the team played host for the event. Tallon has... Show more

I think it really worked out for me, and something that took a lot of thought especially after
playing forward for so long, Schemitsch said. I think in the long run it was the right decision.
The night leading up to the NHL Entry Draft was filled with nervous anticipation for
Schemitsch, who relied upon advice from his brother Geoffrey, a veteran of over 200 games in
the OHL. I was pretty nervous, the Thornhill, ON native said of the process. Just thinking about
it a lot at night and eventually fell asleep. My brother has always been there for me, gave me tips
on how to handle things and gave me advice to just enjoy it. The Panthers will certainly enjoy
having him on board, as he put together a 14 goal and 35 assist season, an improvement of 32
points from his rookie season. Those totals were good for ninth overall in OHL scoring by
defensemen, meaning the Panthers are getting a player who is just beginning to realize his
potential. As a player that compares himself to Brent Seabrook, the Panthers will be pleased if
Schemitsch turns out to be anything like the player he models his game

  • 2. Machiavelli’s Views on Government Essay At first glance Machiavelli s writings could be mistaken for evil and satanic beliefs, but in reality there are many good underlying points as to how to rule a nation. I believe that the New Yorker s description of Machiavelli is the best example of his life and beliefs, because it not only touches upon the high points, but the low points of beliefs as well. The New Yorkergoes into great detail about how Machiavelli came up from a mid level family to achieve a role as a government official/ ambassador just to be thrown in prison after years of trying to stabilize and unify an unstable country through means of war and fear. Machiavelli wasn t only a government official he was a strategic genius, but only because as ambassador he had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Machiavelli wrote that Borgia conquered many nations, but these nations had weak rulers, who had let the nations become over run with crime and filth, but once conquered by Borgia and his men were brought up to a good quality standard with less crime and more peace and order, due to the enforcement of Spanish law. That is why Machiavelli s misconceived writings were actually meant to show that even though a ruler may look bad in people s eyes, his actions actually create good within the nations he controls. A more recent example of a leader who would fit under Machiavelli s theory was Adolf Hitler. Hitler was an extremist whose views should never be tolerated, but in reality he had helped his people get out of an economic depression and improved the quality of life for many Germans. • 4. Democracy As A Best Solution, And Underlying Capitalist... Democracy has morphed in the face of time due to exterior forces which in turn have impacted the understanding of what democracy in action should look like. Technology, education, religious decay and rise, and many other facets of modern life have overwhelmed the understanding of what democracy is. Simply engaging with the concept of democracyis in itself an acceptance of values and assumptions about what governments, and many times economies, should look like. But this paper hardly allows for alternative approach, so the mindset and concepts proposed are a result of the acceptance of western understandings of governance, the natural arrival of democracy as a best solution, and underlying capitalist forces which populates democracy at its core, from Locke to the American founding fathers. So the question becomes what democracy actually looks like in the real world. For as lofty or revolutionary as the founders might have been in their goals, American democracy, now and then, has never been as good as what it looks on paper. The evolutional lens of democracy is then one of both how one arrives at governance and what does democracy stand for. Is it having elections, which might or might not be free in nature? Is it torturing and discriminating against its own citizens? Bending to the popular will of the majority? Protecting minorities? Seeing all as equal in the eyes of the law? Is it none of the above? This really becomes then a question of the cause and consequences of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Computer Security And Social Engineering Computer Security and Social Engineering In terms of computer security, Social Engineering refers to the psychological manipulation of people in order to access confidential information. It is believed that it can be easier to trick people than to hack into their computing system by force. Social engineers gather personal information or gain access to computers by exploiting people s natural tendency to want to trust others and be helpful. Some methods that are used by social engineers to gain information are via email, the internet or even by phone to trick people into revealing sensitive information or get them to do something that goes against the company s policy. Social engineering has been an effective method of committing fraud for centuries. Recently, however, it has been used more and more to assist criminals in perpetrating crimes that can net large sums of money. Without one social engineering method or another, most current attacks would not be successful [11] . Employees are an organization s weakest link and social engineering attacks are only limited by the creativity of the perpetrator, which relies on the gullibility of people. In this paper we discuss some of the most common types of social engineering attacks that are widely used. The development of independent countries establishing trade, business, and military powers had led to the development and advancement of all the continents. The purpose of exploration, conquest and governmental power are common themes that are shared among the powers of 16th century Europe. With unexplored land and unknown inhabitants, the desire and race for expansion were a primary purpose of European nations. Inhabitants of these new lands had established cultures, religions, and social lives. Little documentation is to be found on native people of the North American continent, the majority had no written language or were completely illiterate. The Act does address these issues in that it provides for cases in excluded categories to be funded in exceptional circumstances; it remains to be seen whether this will be sufficiently flexible in practice. While a wide variety and scope of outside sources in not intrinsically bad, on the contrary it usually is desirable, summarizing the sources rather than having them back up his own ideas is where Cave goes wrong. • 16. The Golden Age Of A Civil War Across China Essay Daoism appeared as a reaction to a civil war across China, known as the warring states period, which caused a wide feeling of civil unrest. The war went on for nearly two hundred and fifty years and spread across the Zhou Dynasty, which was divided into eight separate states. Daoist believed that war was a result of excessive desire, and only through modest desire will people and the state experience peace and unity. Daoist argued that desire and all actions must be natural, and we must return to nature to establish our balance. We must return to nature and to a time like the Golden Age, that came before the Zhou Empire and the warring states. The Golden Age refers to a more simple time in life, in which people had relied on agriculture in small villages with a trusted government that also followed the way, causing a balance and unity. To manifest this simplicity and selflessness naturally is the Dao, which is the way of all things. When looking at the different options available to me in Blake s volumes, Holy Thursday (both the Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience versions) demonstrated this duality clearly. The subject in Holy Thursday stays the same, however, the nature of the subject is drastically different in each poem. This was a special service at St. Paul s Cathedral in London, which was held on the first Thursday in May. The tradition started in 1782, and this special service was held for the poorest children in London. These children would be brought to the church by their parish officers, serving approximately six thousand children. Both poems focus on this procession of children to the cathedral, describing the state of the children and the varying attitudes towards the event itself. These varying attitudes are what divides these poems that are so similar in content to two drastically different creations. • 22. Sonnet X By John Donne Analysis Socrates once said: [...]For anything that men can tell, death may be the greatest good that can happen to them: but they fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know? ( Socrates ) Sonnet X by John Donnediscusses the idea that people fear deathwithout just cause, simply because humans are terrified of that which they cannot comprehend. In his poem, Donne communicates this messages by means of conceit, personification, and witty wordplay. Donne is known for writing metaphysical poetry; his writing included lots of conceits, and Sonnet X is no exception. The metaphysical conceit featured in this poem compares death to sleep. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, / Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow, (Donne. Lines 5 6) This couplet articulates that, because death is merely a stronger, much more permanent version of sleep, it should not be feared; if sleep is pleasurable, then why should death not be viewed similarly? After all, as Donne continues in lines 11 and 12, sleep induced by drugs such as opium, which is derived from poppies, and charms can provide rest akin to or even better than death. So why then, the speaker asks in line 12, is Death so prideful? The following mention of sleep takes a religious angle; One short sleep past, we wake eternally (Line 13) refers to the interim between a person s death and Judgement Day, when the soul proceeds to Heaven to live eternally, provided the person lived a righteous lifestyle. Thus, this line means that death is not the end, per se, but rather the beginning of eternal life in Heaven. While Donne was not the first to compare death and sleep, this conceit helps communicate that death should not be feared, for it is much the same as sleep, and marks the beginning of one s eternal stay in the Pearly Gates. Wordplay and wit are abundant in Sonnet X; in several instances, the word death is used in three different ways in the same line! The poem is an apostrophe, the speaker is directing his words at Death, so obviously, there is personification throughout. This, along with metaphors and other figures of speech, allows ... While Toyota was on the market research and new product development, other companies were focusing on merger and acquisition. Employees, suppliers, managers, the community, customers, competition, the government, and stockholders are all considered, in the broadest sense, to be stakeholders. Stockholders, unlike the rest, in addition to being stakeholders, are their own little group. Stockholders are the owners or public and private limited companies. Companies have the right to restrict ownership, and spread it over as few or as many individuals as they wish. Stockholders own pieces of the company and with that have a vested interest in the financial growth of the company. King typically adapts his metaphors from the stock repertoire of horror fiction. IT (1986) shows childhood fears in the form of such classic Universal Studio movie monsters as Frankenstein, Wolfman, and the Mummy. In Misery (1987) King, not hesitating to be self referential, pictures a successful writer kidnapped by a crazily devoted fan. King s major contribution to horror literature is to situate it within the general anxieties of contemporary life. His focus is not on vampires, werewolves and such but on ordinary people faced with these horrors and the darker horrors of the lost jobs, disintegrating families, mental breakdown, and all the other fears that haunt the atomic age. • 41. Spinoza On Substance Monism The stance that Spinoza has on substance is that there is only one substance, out of which all else is somehow constituated. Substance for the Stoics, is also seen as a monist philosophy. Because Stoics think of the world as a unitary system that contains all beings they should be considered substance monism. This is often cited as the clearest example of how Spinoza was most influenced by Stoic philosophy. However, Spinoza states that there is only one substance, but further from that, he unambiguously signals that understanding it is a prerequisite to understanding the epistemological, psychological, and moral issues where as for the Stoics this is not completely obvious; nor it is obvious that they place substance at the basis of all philosophical investigation. From the Stoic view, they do make philosophical investigation being with nature: we must first learn about it before we can advance to logic and ethics. So upon initial thought, one might think although they may not call it substance, the Stoics do have nature and its conceptual and argumentative status seems similar to that of Spinozistic substance. Therefore, because the Stoics have a concept that is equivalent in key respects to Spinoza s substance, the differences that I stated above may appear not so great after all. What lies at the heart of Stoic monism is the intuition that the world constitutes a genuine and well integrated whole, but by contrast, Spinozistic monism is held to be based on either ...
