The Rise Of The Welfare State
The Rise of the Welfare State
In America today, just over ten million people are on unemployment insurance, one hundred and ten
million people are on welfare, and the total government spending annually is around one hundred and
thirty billion dollars (Welfare Statistics). The welfare state is a political system based on the
proposition that the government has the individual responsibility to ensure that the minimum standard
of living is met for all citizens. Specifically, in the matters of health care, public education,
employment, and social security, the welfare state assumes all responsibility. According to John
Rawls, In a just society the liberties of equal citizenship are taken as settled; the rights secured by
justice are not subject to political bargaining or to the calculus of social interests. The only thing that
permits us to acquiesce in an erroneous theory is the lack of a better one; analogously, an injustice is
tolerable only when it is necessary to avoid an even greater injustice (Rawls). In the 1840s, Otto Von
Bismarck, the first Chancellor of Germany, was the father of the modern welfare state. He built the
program to win over the support of the working middle class in Germany and ultimately reduce the
outflow of immigrants to the U.S., where welfare did not exist (Welfare State). In the United States,
not all companies provided workers with benefits, thus the workers appealed to the government,
giving rise to the first form of welfare capitalism.

electrical conductor. Node works as both transmitter and a receiver and in which MANET does not
require a fixed network infrastructure.Within the communication range, the nodes can communicate
with each other.MANET made popular in military use and emergency recovery. In this paper a new
approach for intrusion and detection system named EEACK is proposed. Both of the TWOACK and
Watchdog methods are considered as the first line of defense and it is not sufficient to protect
MANETs from packet dropping attacks. EAACK provide higher malicious behaviordetection rates in
certain circumstances while does not greatly affect the network performances. This paper proposes a
mechanism for a novel IDS named EAACK protocol specially designed for MANETs and compared it
against other popular mechanisms in different scenarios through simulations and migration

Comparison Of The Taiping Rebellion And Indian Mutiny
The Taiping Rebellion and Indian Mutiny were both revolts caused by Britain s actions, motivated by
their wish to control international trade in stride towards their Imperialistic goals of globalizing their
trade network to maximize profit and control. As information was gathered on Southeast Asia, Britain
became increasingly interested by the potential value of native goods. With the additional help of
developing technology at the time, Britain was able to gain control via despotism. The imperialistic
rule was successful as encountered regions in Southeast Asia had always easily controlled by global
powers, until indigenous voices in India and China were finally heard in their fight to push back
against Britain s greedy actions. Britain had found it necessary to expand their reach in India and
China for various reasons, some of which being to spread Christianity, creating more ports for sailors,
and benefitting trade networks. However India and China found fewer benefits in Britain s motives
and their message was eventually heard as the indigenous fought Britain s globalization tactics that
were not mutually beneficial but could be found on the agenda of British Imperialism.
The Taiping Rebellion and The Indian Mutiny, sometimes referred to as the Sepoy Mutiny, were
sparked for different reasons but both took place after the British gained influence on their respective
territories. Beginning with the Taiping Rebellion, a revolt not against foreigners but meant to counter

An Analyis of the Conventions of Courtly Love Within the...
An Analyis of the Conventions of Courtly Love Within The Miller s Tale and Morte Darthur While
both Morte Darthur and The Miller s Tale display some characteristics of a satirical approach in which
human vices are attacked in a whimsical manner through irony, comedy, and folly, they are actually
quite different in their literary genre and style. Morte Darthur , an adventurous tale with an imaginary
setting that perfectly idealizes the chivalrous knight hero and his noble deeds done for the love of his
lady, is a classic example of a tragic medieval romance. A fabliau, of which The Miller s Tale is an
example, takes a comical approach with the typically large cast of colorful characters: the blissfully
ignorant husband, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within these works, neither female character feels a marital commitment, yet both feel a strong
commitment to their lovers: Guinevere to Sir Lancelot, and Alison to Nicholas, this hende whom she

also happens to be his lover s husband. It is important to note that lovers in both Morte Darttur and
The Miller s Tale did not necessarily refer to sexual partners, for love at that time was not as love is
nowadays (Malory 442), but to the emotional connection between two people. At the time marriage
was either an institution of convenience or a strategy used to increase familial ties within the nobility
and ruling classes; it almost never had anything to do with personal choice or love. In fact, courtly
love was typically not practiced within a marriage. Instead it provided a means for people to feel and
express the love that was missing in their marriages, while holding on to the financial and social
advantages that the marital relationship provided. Courtly lovers had secret, lustful trysts which tended
to escalate into a mental and sometimes physical affair. However, it was expected that once an affair
began, the lovers would be fully committed to one another, as Capellano expressly stated, No one can
be bound by a double love. Malory especially uses commitment to

Rosa Parks And The Montgomery Bus Boycott
Introduction
Rosa Parks wouldn t move from her seat, would you move because of the color of your skin? In
Montgomery Alabama in 1955 a bus boycott took place. The black community of Montgomery
decided not to ride the bus for about 381 days. In the end the busses lost to much money because the
majority of the people on the bus were colored so they gave in. In this essay I will discuss Rosa Parks
arrested which lead to the boycott. What happened during the boycott and the outcome of the boycott
in Montgomery Alabama.
The spark of the boycott
Before the boycott began many blacks were arrested and fined. Rosa Parks refused to move from her
seat in the colored section for a white man. Rosa was part of a group trying to stop segregation in a
peaceful manner. They needed some one to stand up for the cause but Rosa never thought it would be
here. Rosa was arrested and fined 10 dollars just because she didn t move. Many blacks used the
busses so the group wanted to do something with them but they didn t know what. When Rosa trial
began for not moving the boycott started. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Historical Development of Law Enforcement Essays
Since 27 B.C. law enforcement has been used by humans as a means to defend property and keep
peace. Law enforcement has been changing ever since it was created. It will keep changing for the
greater good of the community as long is there is a continual need for law enforcement.
According to REAL POLICE. (N.D.) Para 5, the first organized police force was created by the great
nephew of Julius Caesar, Gaius Octavius in 27 B.C. These men were called Vigiles. The Vigiles were
armed with wooden clubs and small swords. They were formed to perform two duties, fight fires in
the city and arrest law breakers. The prefect of the Vigiles became a powerful man. He had the ability
to judge and sentence lawbreakers.
In 1200 A.D., English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New York used bells to communicate with other officers out of voice range. There were ten different
bell codes used by the New York police. Also, New York replaced drafted citizens with paid watch
standers in 1658. REAL POLICE. (N.D.).
Research by Schmalleger (2005) shows that in 1829, the world s first modern police force was
formed. Sir Robert Peel selected 1,000 men to wear a uniform and patrol the streets. These uniformed
men were called Bobbies. The new police were founded on two principles, one, belief that it was
possible to discourage crime, and two, practice of preventive patrol. To this day, Bobbies still patrol
the streets of England.
Law enforcement was almost non existent in the American West during the late 1800 s and early 1900
s. Outlaws ruled the land with few worries about law enforcement. Only the bravest men would
attempt to police the west. Some of these brave men were self appointed law men, men like Charles
Lynch, a former Virginia farmer, and Wyatt Earp. These brave men were called Vigilantes and they
tracked down criminals in the west. With out them the west would have been to violent for the
expansion of the country. Schmalleger (2005).
Women began involvement with police work in 1845. They were assigned as matrons in the New York
Police Department. In 1893, the Mayor of Chicago appointed Marie Owens as the first woman to have
the title policeman . She was a widow of a Chicago police

Comparing Morpheus And Neo In The Film The Matrix
By the time the original 1999 film The Matrix came out in theaters, film critics and moviegoers were
fascinated by the unique style of the film which complimented the story and development of the main
character Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, through his changing sense of fashion, from simple t shirts he
sleeps in to long elegant coats which cloak new found abilities.
When we first meet Neo, his clothing emulates his position in life and his attitude towards it. Before
he begins his journey through the rabbit hole, Neo is Thomas A. Anderson, a computer programmer at
a conventional company where he works amongst hundreds of dull cubicles, forcing him to get extra
money and express his ignored talents through his secret life as a computer hacker. ... Show more

As he enters the skyscraper in which Morpheus is captured, Neo s clothing and stance shows how far

highlight his newfound muscles while also acting as a stark contrast to the baggy, short sleeved t shirts
he used to wear as a hacker. What really emphasizes his character growth is how Reeves has changed
Neo s stance and makeup, standing straighter and holding his head high. Instead of crouching in the
background with sweat in his hair and hiding behind a suit that makes him look small, Neo stands tall

Introduction
Green gram (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) is one of the most important pulse crop of the arid and
semiarid tropics (Chen et al., 1987). It is an excellent source of easily digestible protein. Several
factors are responsible for low production of Green gram. Among them, diseases play an important
role (Nene, 1980; Pal, 1996). Many fungal pathogens, some of which are seed transmitted, often
reduce the germination ability or kill the infected plants or substantially reduce the productive
capacity. However,

Odyssey Death and Rebirth in the Odyssey
The Odyssey, by Homer, is a classical piece of Greek literature. Throughout
The Odyssey, the Blind Bard makes use of many literary techniques in order
to lend meaning to the poem beyond its existence as a work of historic fiction
and aid his readers in the comprehension of the tale. One of these techniques
is the use of motifs. A motif is a recurring theme that is used throughout the
work. In The Odyssey, Homer makes use of many motifs including
eating/drinking, Odysseus s anger, bathing, and disguise, just to name a few.
However, perhaps the most important of Homer s motifs is the symbolic death
and rebirth theme. This motif is used throughout The Odyssey to emphasize
the growth and enlightenment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cyclops, if
any mortal man ever asks you who it was that inflicted upon your eye this
shameful blinding, tell him that you were blinded by Odysseus, sacker of cities
(IX. 502 4). The symbolic rebirth of Odysseus can be emphasized by the
cave, which can be seen as a symbol of the womb, therefore making
Odysseus emergence from the cyclops s cave a true rebirth. The next
example of the death and rebirth motif is a rather obvious one that needs little
symbolic inference: Odysseus s descent into the underworld in book XI. Homer
uses many light and dark references to emphasize the death and rebirth
theme in this book darkness symbolizing death and light symbolizing life and
therefore rebirth. . . .how is it then, unhappy man, you have left the sunlight
and come here to look on dead men, and this place without pleasure? (XI.
93 4). While in the underworld, Odysseus gains insights about his eventual
return home. With this knowledge, Odysseus and his crew return to the world
of the living, symbolizing their rebirth. Again, light and dark images are used to
emphasize this rebirth. . . .where Helios, the sun, makes his uprising . . . (XII.
4). As illustrated in the preceding line, Odysseus returns from the Underworld
to the place where the sun rises the symbolism is obvious. The

Robert Johnson Ramblin On My Mind Summary
Musical Analysis #3
As we discussed in class, the authors all believe that blues is much more than music. I identified with
the beliefs of the authors of the Robert Johnson and the Classic Blues passages. At the start of the
Robert Johnson passage, the author describes the perfect possibility of the American promise as
gaining energy from the pursuit of happiness. As Americans there is this innate belief that we could
achieve whatever we may want and if we do not have the ability to achieve our goals, in a way we still
deserve to obtain them. The author contrasts the statement, with the way that Robert Johnson delivers
his blues music as a way of breaking up and uncovering this desolate America that reveals itself when
it does fail you. Robert Johnson in Ramblin on My Mind , is an example of the singer wanting love in
his life but having to leave it since he is hurting. Throughout Johnson s discography, a lot of his songs
deal with sex. Here in this song it appears he found something real with a woman but has been hurt
through her actions and must leave her for his own emotional sake. ... Show more content on

As black folk in America began recognizing a sense of place within the American society these types
of blues songs developed. Classic blues tended to be more relatable to the general audience because of
said shift. Now this form of blues was not just about the trials and tribulations of black people in
America, because of slavery and overall negative treatment. The ideas and themes within the songs
now dealt with the internal monologues within themselves on a human level. Because they were now
in the same place of talking about the dissatisfactions of life, white America could relate to these

Abraham Lincoln Freedman
Have you ever heard of Abraham Lincoln? Most Americans have, because he was one of the most
loved, and most hated presidents we ever had. He didn t start that way though. He was born in
Kentucky, in a one room, one window, hard packed dirt floor log cabin. He worked hard and was
ambitious, and over time he became one of the most well known presidents of the United States.
According to Russell Freedman, Lincoln was very ambitious and eager to prove himself.
In Lincoln: a Photobiography Russell Freedman claims that Lincoln was ambitious. Lincoln s family
was poor, so he tried to help them earn money. Then, when he was 17 years old, he got hired by a rich
old man to row his son down the river, On a twelve hundred mile flat boat voyage to New Orleans.
Lincoln earned 24 dollars for the three month voyage, which was a lot of money at the time. He must
have been brave, because he didn t know the man he was traveling with, and he didn t know how long
it would take. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On page 19 of Lincoln: Photo biography, it says, He joined the New Salem debate society, which met
once a week. Through the society, he got to meet many people and became more eager to have his
ideas shared. One of his fellow debaters, Mentor Graham, who was a schoolmaster, taught him
English and grammar. Turning him from a boy who had a country accent to a man who could grab
your thoughts and turn them toward what he thought. This also opened him to the idea of being a
lawyer.
Lincoln was ambitious according to Russell Freedman. Lincoln became a lawyer in 1830, then he
joined Congress 17 years later in 1847. He was quickly rising out of the poor shop keeper business
into the political business. This reminds me of President Trump, a businessman with no political
background who just became president of the United States. And not many people are happy with his
ideas, but, like Lincoln, he may turn out to be great just the

Edward Elgar Research Paper
The life of an artist can be a difficult one. Many artists produce work for their own enjoyment or
because it is their passion, but some are lucky enough to get paid for their work, enough to make it a
legitimate source of income. Edward Elgar, a composer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was
one of these artists. Although he composed music for enjoyment, he was popular enough in his day to
make a living from his music, and his reputation continued to grow after his death, making his work a
valued aspect of British culture today. Even though he was in the limelight during his lifetime, Elgar
could put his heart and soul into his music, which ultimately reflected his mood and the mores of the
Victorian and Edwardian eras he lived through. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author George Bernard Shaw wrote, Elgar is carrying on Beethoven s work (7). In 1917, Daniel
Gregory Mason wrote, Sir Edward Elgar... is surely one of the great men of our time (288). This was
after the First World War when Elgar s work was seen as inspiring patriotism. Much of the literature
on Elgar s work notes its contrast to other music at the time, which may explain why it took so long
for Elgar to become popular. In 1957, musician Ralph Vaughan Williams called Elgar s work, quite
new without being eccentric when referencing a performance of the Enigma Variations, originally
performed in 1899 (Williams et al. 302). In 1917, Daniel Gregory Mason said Elgar s work is an
escape from habit to initiative, from formality to eloquence, from insularity to cosmopolitanism (289).
Elgar lacked the formal training of many of his contemporaries, and this seems to have given him a
greater freedom in his composition. Mason wrote, But the important point is that however much... he
may fall back into the formula of his school, he has at his best left them far behind (289). Sir Ernest
Bullock noted that much of his music is distinguished by a characteristic individuality (Williams et al.
306). Most of his training instead came from experience with music and instruments. As a result,
critics often describe Elgar s work as having orchestral

We got to the hotel that we were staying at for the week while we were overloaded with excitement.
This hotel even had a water park attached to the building. When Morgan and I saw the water park our
jaws dropped. It looked like a humongous play ground full water that flowed down the slides carrying
children and families down the swishing streams that threw them into the freezing cold water at the
bottom of the slide.

The Importance Of Media In Mass Media
There are many different media outlets, and alternatives available to individuals in today s society to
receive information other than what is available in mass media. One alternative media is PBS. PBS is
unlike many programming stations around the nation. Their idea is to treat people like citizens and not
as consumers. On the Public Broadcasting Service website, it describes how their take on the news is
quite different from other stations. They believe that they are America s largest classroom, the Nation
s largest stage, and a trusted window to the world (2016). I am going to describe in the following
paper the background of the Public Broadcasting Service, how their view is different than corporate
giants, and what type of future does a company like this have in the kind of media world we live in
today.
Public Broadcasting Service is a different kind of media outlet than many. PBS different than other
media sectors because it is a private and a nonprofit corporation (2016). The people that make PBS the

The article states, Her cheeks were narrow and her forehead very high. and Her eyes were wide set

the girl s skeleton being found, the divers found extinct animals skeletons as well. The article states,
Trapped with her was a group of similarly doomed ice age animals. They included saber toothed cats,
elephant like gomphotheres and giant sloths. A third reason to why you should read the article is
because the divers that discovered her, believe that she s a water nymph. The article states, In myth
and legend, nymphs are nature spirits who take the form of beautiful maidens. They live hidden in
water or woods. So when divers discovered the remains of a teenage girl in a dark, underwater cave,
they named her Naia, for water nymph . That, for me, sounded pretty crazy, which made me want to

Maturation can be defended as genetically programmed development. Stages of development ‘switch
on at fairly predictable time during childhood. The changes occur quiet rapidly, and allow a similar
pattern in almost all children. Almost all individuals have a unique genotype. This affects their
aptitudes and intelligence. Certain children have noticeable cognition deflects that limit their ability to
learn. Some of the conditions that lead to such deficits are strongly influences by genetics. The Role of
Learning Learning is the main process by which children acquire behaviour and understanding from
the environment. Children learn in various ways and acquire new ways in learning, as they get older.
Learning probably contributes more to human development has it does in any other species. This has
enabled humans to adapt to living in environments and conditions that are far different from those
present during much of human evolution. The role of a child in learning Children play an important
and active role in their own learning. Most infants display an intense curiosity about the world. This
leads them to make the most of opportunities to learn through play. Children also make demands on
parents on parents in a way that leads to learning opportunities, although without necessarily realising
that this is what they are doing. The tendency of children from around 3 6 years old to ask a long

Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson
Character Identification In the book Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, out of the four
main characters, I most resemble the little person Haw. Right away, it was obvious I was not like the
mice. I am a thinker. Sniff and Scurry reacted far too immediately for me. When the change happened,
they were already out in the maze seeing what they could find. Change tends to affect me more
heavily than it did the mice. I tend to use a combination of brainpower and emotion when I am
looking for my Cheese just like Hem and Haw. What makes me more similar to Hem is the reaction to
the change. When the Cheese goes missing, Hem experiences an intense emotional reaction. He yells
and screams because he feels entitled to his Cheese. He had been enjoying the Cheese for so long that
he could not imagine a situation where the Cheese was no longer there for him. Haw s reaction is
much more subtle. He was sad. The Cheese being at Cheese Station C was a measure of comfort for
him, and without it he was left in shock. This is precisely how I react. I tend to count on all the
constant people and situations in my life. If my family, girlfriend, car, apartment, or air conditioning
were ever to withdraw their presence it would leave me in shock. Just like with Haw, it is not about
me having the most powerful of any of the things listed above, but more about my personal comfort
with the current situation. After they find Cheese Station C empty several times, Hem and Haw

Analyse the Commodity Attractions of the Element Nickel Essay
Nickel
Introduction
The intension of the paper is to analyse the commodity attractions of the element nickel. It is highly
related to physical and chemical properties of the element because any commercial usage of this
element is based on its property. Also, nickel is extracted from ore, so the ore deposit of it will be
highly related to the capital of any nickel related business. The laterite nickel ore deposit, Greenvale
located in Queensland be focused on to reveal the genesis and other attributes of this type of nickel
deposit. Based on these information a conclusion of the current market status of nickel can be
portrayed.

(Keim 1990). Nickel is widely used in industries.
Ore deposit condition Most of nickel is extracted from laterite nickel ores, which consist 60% 70% of
nickel on earth. This kind of ore is formed by the chemical weathering of serpentinite and other
igneous rocks. Because of this requirement of weathering, deposits are located mostly in a humid
tropical environment (Figure 1). (Butt Cluzel 2013) The major end product of this weathering process
will be: hematite, nickeliferous limonitic ore ((Fe,Ni)O(OH).nH2O) and nickeliferous silicate ore
((Ni,Mg)6Si4O10(OH)8). Nickeliferous limonitic ore and nickeliferous silicate ore are the two
dominant types of nickel ore. (Pickles 2003) uplifted oxide rich regoliths form nickeliferous limonitic
ore and nickel goes downward to saprolite and combine with silicates to form nickeliferous silicate
ore. The silicate ore deposits at a greater depth than the limonitic ore. Nickeliferous limonitic ores are
mostly weathered product of goethites. (Butt Cluzel 2013) For both ores nickel content of each will be
around 1.5%. Nickel in the silicate ore will be more than 1.5%. (Pickles 2003) Since laterite nickel
ores are from the weathering of pre existing rock, the composition of surrounding rocks, topography
and climate are important factors. Usually laterite nickel ores will form on olivine rich ultramafic
rocks. These rocks are the basic building blocks of nickel ores.

Catholic Interpretation Of The Bible
Religion. Religion is something that everyone knows about, most people have, but no one really
knows why exactly we have it. Although there are a myriad of different religions practiced by people
all over the world with varying beliefs, the grand majority of widely practiced religions such as
Christianity and Judaism are premised in their interpretation of the Bible. The Bible is a collection of
texts written by human beings several hundred years ago, recounting a history of events from the
creation of the universe by God to the supposed second coming of Christ sometime in the future.
Different religions vary based on their interpretation of the Bible and the meaning they place behind
this interpretation. Catholicism is based on a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is the main counterargument for the thesis of the paper, there are a myriad of examples
of specific change in the religion over time depending on the societal attitudes that are ever evolving.
An example of this comes from the changes or so called improvements that have come out of the
Vatican. If it was just that the religion was adding new information or growing to include new
information, there would not be specific changes to the Catholic interpretation of the Bible, it would
be that there was no assumptions made or observed from this solidified and unchanging interpretation
of the Bible. However, this is not the case as observed in the book by Maines and McCallion
discussing the liturgical change in the Vatican II Church. In the book it discusses how the
interpretation of the Bible in the Catholic religion has evolved over time, being influenced by the
major thinkers of the time and the societal attitudes and norms of that specific time. For example,
Maines and McCallion describe that there were two dominant changes with respect to Catholicism
which occurred from roughly World War II to 1960 (9). These changes that occurred during this time
period reflected the views of society and not only changed based on the changes in Catholics
lifestyles, but changed the subsequent interpretation of the

Nigeria, The Niger Delta and the Nigerian Government
Nigeria might be rich in resources; its population lives in poverty. With a Multidimensional Poverty
Index (MPI) of .31, it was ranked number 157 out of the 186 United Nations (UN) member states in
2012. Also, according to the World Bank, the poverty headcount ratio was 68%, meaning this part of
the population lived with less than $1.25 a day in 2010.
The Niger Delta is one of the nine states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It counts about 20 million
people and around 70 000 km² of land. The region is one of the most prominent wetlands in the world.
Oil has produced about $600 billion since the 1960 s.
Despite its wealth in resources, the majority of the people live under poor conditions. To counter this
poverty, the Nigerian government has set up several commissions in the past. The most prominent are
the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) and the Niger Delta
Development Commission (NDDC).
The OMPADEC was established in 1993 and focused on the development of the Niger Delta Region
(NDR). It however failed due to factors as corruption, mismanagement and non sufficient funding.
Hereafter, the NDDC was to replace the OMPADEC. It would create socio economic development in
the NDR. The NDDC set up various projects in the region. However, due to the poor structure of the
organisation and inadequate funding the NDDC have

I think providing opportunities to socialize and have adventures are a great strength of the recreation
center, because residents could easily participate new activities with moderate price and near their
houses. Christie graduated CSULB with Recreation major, but did not get any certification to become
a recreation service supervisor at the city of Fountain Valley. When she was little, local parks had
summer programs and socialized with with kids a lot. She wanted to give similar opportunities to
current children, therefore, she put more attention into kids programs like dancing class, football
program, baseball class and etc. City of Fountain Valley is providing various sports, education, arts,
and health programs from youth to seniors. Christie said she loves working with youth and activities
that she could learn new adventures. Currently, contracted classes, which is hiring companies, are
booming because those are more efficient and cheaper. Usually, companies provide basketball,
softball, and other classes. In addition, intergenerational program is a hot trend. Through

of capital, technology, managerial know how, or marketing skills to carry out production or business

Partly because of their size, MNCs tend to dominate the sectors in which they specialize. As a result,
their transnational business ventures offer much debate about their impact on developing countries;
many arguments have been proposed on this subject alone ( ). This paper will be used to illustrate the
opportunities created by MNCs for less developed countries. A historical account will be presented
identifying the general impact of MNCs on developing countries up to the 21st century. Contemporary
views will also be used for the purpose of evaluating the influence of MNCs in the areas of growth
and efficiency, welfare, and values and institutions in the present and potential future consequences.
The earliest version of the modern MNC is visible in the imperialistic and colonizing ventures by
Western Europe, dating back to the 16th century. The modern version of the MNC was apparent with

The Narrative Techniques Used by Hitchcock in Rear Window...
The Narrative Techniques Used by Hitchcock in Rear Window
L.B. Jeffries is a high class magazine photographer for what seems to be a worldwide publication. In
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window , he is a temporarily wheelchair bound man and his voyeuristic side
appears later on in the film.
Rear Window depicts a 20th century New York in which fraudsters, murderers and salesmen all live
alongside each other. The story describes a man who broke his leg during a photography assignment.
He is, for the time being, stuck in a wheelchair with nothing to do but look at the neighbours through
his Rear Window . He hasn t seen the light of day since seven weeks ago.
Rear Window is one of Alfred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also shows that it is the start of the story. The window fills the whole frame of the shot. This is a
good way of setting the scene for the viewers. Old style joyous jazz music is played at the start a good
way of portraying happy times. The opening scene in Rear Window has no dialogue, leaving even
more of the viewers in a pool of anticipation. The scene highlights the fact that every single thing in
the film will be seen through that particular window.
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window is a great example of first rate camerawork. The camera is used as
the narrator and probably plays the biggest role within the film. At the start of the film, the camera is
used to pan around every single apartment within the inner city New York apartment block to
introduce the characters. Although the characters do not speak, they still play a major role in the film.
Alfred Hitchcock puts the viewers in the position of L.B Jeffries, making us all voyeurs. The camera is
used to tell the story, as there is very little dialogue in the film. Throughout nearly all of the film, only
one shot is used to tell the story, there are very few cuts. By doing it this way, Hitchcock is showing us
exactly what the character is seeing.
The cast of Rear Window includes Jimmy Stewart, the lovely Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, and

Charles Robert Darwin s Life and Accomplishments
Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist who was born in Shrewsbury, England on February
12, 1809. He was the second youngest of six children. Before Charles Darwin, there were many
scientists throughout his family. His father, Dr. Robert Darwin, was a medical doctor, and his
grandfather, Dr. Erasmus Darwin, was a well known botanist. Darwin s mother, Susannah Darwin,
died when he was only eight years old. Darwin was a child that came from wealth and privilege and
who loved to explore nature. In October 1825 at age sixteen, Darwin enrolled at Edinburgh University
with his brother Erasmus. Two years later, Charles became a student at Christ s College in Cambridge.

Darwin believed all plants and animals had changed from past families by natural selection. An
example of natural selection would be the different coloration between beetles (Understanding
Evolution, 2008). There are two different colored beetles, one is brown and the other is green. Since
the environment cannot have an overpopulation, the green beetles will get consumed by birds and not
be able to survive and reproduce as much as the brown beetles. The brown beetles have offspring
because the trait has a genetic basis. When they produce more offspring, they become more common
in the environment and if this process continues, the population of beetles will be mostly brown.
Certain characteristics are innate within a species which help them reproduce and survive more than
other species with no such inborn characteristics. These species will become more favorable and most
common in the population. Darwin s theory of natural selection favors organisms that are prone to
adapting well to the environment, it makes it easy to pass on their genes stabilizing the population and
making it stronger. Species begin to die out according to, what Darwin calls, survival of the fittest.
Darwin s Survival of the Fittest theory is a natural process resulting in the development of a species
best adapted to the environment. This is when the species only the species that are best adapted the
environment and its conditions are able to survive and reproduce. If they are not

HOW DO YOU ENCOUNTER STATE AND CITIZENSHIP IN YOUR DAILY LIFE?
UNDERSTANDING STATE:
The modern word state has been derived from the word status earlier employed by Teutons. It was
Niccolo Machiavelli who first used the term state in political science. From the beginning of social
life, mankind has lived under some kind of authority. The authority has varied in its nature and has
exercised its function through different forms of organisation. Beneath these differences in the
concrete manifestation of political lifemay be observed a practical identity of purpose, and by

Politically organized people of a definite territory iii. An organization of public law that is
monopolistic over the use of violence against a group or population iv. An organization which in
internal matters carries out its function through a unified set of institutions known as the government.
ELEMENTS OF THE STATE:
The state, as said earlier may be viewed as both a concrete thing and an abstract idea. A concrete thing
means that it is specific human group or association and viewed in abstract terms, it is a corporation
possessing a juristic personality. The state is composed of both physical and metaphysical elements.
These elements are:
i. A group of human beings, i.e. population (population) ii. A territory upon which they permanently
reside (territory) iii. Internal sovereignty and independence from foreign control (sovereignty) iv. A
political organization or agency through which the collective will of the population is expressed, i.e.
government (government)
Absence of any one of these elements nullifies the state: all must exist together. The state is not
people, nor the land nor the government, but all of them in addition; the state must possess that unity
which makes it a distinct and independent political entity. These features are common to all states,
irrespective of their historically specific manifestation. For e.g., it applies to the Greek City states, the
medieval kingdom, the modern monarchy and all the other kinds of states that

Delivery Of Safe Care For Post Laryngectomy Patients
Delivery of Safe Care in Post Laryngectomy Patients 2
Introduction The larynx is a part of the throat which contains vocal cords that resonate as air passes
through them, resulting in our voices. This part of the respiratory system, which lies in between the
tongue and trachea, is also involved with breathing and protection of the trachea from food aspiration.
Several risk factors such as diet, age, excessive drinking or alcohol use and even acid reflux can
increase the chances of developing cancer of the larynx. A growth may occur anywhere on the tissues
of the larynx causing laryngeal caner leading you to have surgery. In many cases a laryngectomy is
done to extract a tumor or growth that may eventually become malignant. It is important that before,
during and after surgery we maintain care for the patient. The purpose is to optimize the delivery of
safe care for post laryngectomy patients.
Scope of problem/Literature findings Cancer of the head and neck are diagnosed each year with a high
incidence of laryngeal cancer. Maddox and Davies (2012) reported that, The estimated number of

Benefits Of Soybean Breeding Programs Essay
Exotic soybean germplasm that has the potential to significantly increase seed yield has been
evaluated in several previous studies. Three high yielding germplasm lines that contain exotic ancestry
have been released by USDAARS and the Illinois Agricultural Experiment Station. The released lines
LG00 3372 from the cross PI 561319A × PI 574477 (Nelson and Johnson 2011a), LG04 6000 from
the cross PI 436682 × Lawrence (Nelson and Johnson 2012), and LG06 5798 from LG00 3372 x
LD00 3309 (Nelson et al. 2013) yielded significantly (P=0.05) more than the highest yielding check
cultivars in field tests. The releases of these germplasm lines provide evidence that exotic germplasm
can be used as a parent for soybean breeding programs to provide new genetic diversity as well as to
improve seed yield of US soybean cultivars.
Advances in biotechnology and statistical programs have made it more efficient to map the locations
of genes and QTL. However, complex quantitative traits including seed yield are often difficult to
identify and their use in soybean breeding programs can be complicated by epistasis, QTL by genetic
background interactions, and QTL by environment interactions (Bernardo 2008; Yang et al. 2008).
Strong interactions between QTL as well as between QTL and environments for seed yield have been
reported in soybean (Kim et al. 2012b; Lark et al. 1995). The objectives of this study were to map
QTL and to identify effects of the QTL and/or epistasis on important agronomic

American Civil Liberties Union Case Analysis
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was started in 1920 and has since committed itself to the
protection of the rights of the American people. With branches in every state, Puerto Rico, and
Washington, D.C., the employees work in courtrooms, government agencies, and communities to
change policies and laws that infringe on the rights delineated by the Constitution. Their vision is to
create an America in which everyone might live freely. This is a strong vision for many reasons. First
and foremost, it endures. For the last 97 years, the ACLU s employees and affiliates have been united
against all challenges to the freedoms this nation guarantees. As further evidence of the vision s
strength, these individuals constantly monitor policies and laws being implemented to seek out any
that might harm Americans. On occasion they must put their own reputation on the line to do so. This
vision is challenging because of these circumstances, but this group has won many court cases in the
last century that has allowed it to fulfill its mission. Finally, the ... Show more content on

For example, vision statement of the public relations department could read, The PR department will
disseminate information of the rights of Americans to the public effectively and accurately through the
use of articles in newspapers, television commercials, and by maintaining each of our offices such that
they are welcoming and informative. Through this, they will ensure that they are working toward
keeping all Americans apprised of their rights. When people understand their rights, they are more
comfortable exercising them, which makes protecting them easier. The legal department s might say,
The legal department will ensure that citizens of the nation at large are upholding their commitment to
the Constitution. Through this vision statement, they can remind themselves that they must be vigilant

What Is The Police Incident Essay
This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington;
On 8 11 2017 at approximately 1000 hrs I was on routine patrol, in a fully marked Auburn PD patrol
vehicle, in the parking lot of the Muckelshoot Casino at
2402 Auburn Way S. I often patrol this parking lot as it is a high crime area and I have made many
arrest related to stolen vehicles and illegal narcotics.
On this date I was on the eastside of the main parking lot, when I drove by a blue Dodge Charger,
WA/BEP1426. I observed that the vehicle was occupied by a female, who was sitting in the front
passenger sit, and a male who was sitting in the driver seat. I noticed that the male appeared to be
passed out. The male was sitting in an upright position with his ... Show more content on

She stated that she was. I asked Resendiz if she knew she had warrants for her arrest. Resendiz stated
that she did. I walked to the passenger side of the vehicle and asked Resendiz to step out of the
vehicle. At the time, Resendiz still had a large purse on her lap. As she exited the vehicle she placed
the purse of the floorboard of the vehicle. As I placed Resendiz in handcuffs per my training, Sgt
Hopper asked the male to hand him the purse, as at the time of the arrest Resendiz was in possession
of the purse. The male handed the purse to Sgt
Hopper. I advised Resendiz of her Miranda Rights, which I read from a pre printed card. Resendiz
stated that she understood her rights and agreed to speak with me.
Officer Blake, who had arrived on scene to assist, spoke with the male and asked him for his name.
The male provided his name as Christian Morales. Officer Blake checked Morales through
WACIC/NCIC. The return indicated that Morales had an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant was
active through SO Seattle for
Theft 3rd (C17024915). Dispatch confirmed the warrant and Officer Blake asked
Morales to step out of the vehicle, where he placed him in handcuffs, per his training. Officer Blake
also advised Morales of his Miranda Rights.
Both Morales and Resendiz stated that they did not have IDs, therefore both were confirmed with
DOL photos. The warrants for Morales and Resendiz were confirm, via dispatch, through

  • 2. The Rise Of The Welfare State The Rise of the Welfare State In America today, just over ten million people are on unemployment insurance, one hundred and ten million people are on welfare, and the total government spending annually is around one hundred and thirty billion dollars (Welfare Statistics). The welfare state is a political system based on the proposition that the government has the individual responsibility to ensure that the minimum standard of living is met for all citizens. Specifically, in the matters of health care, public education, employment, and social security, the welfare state assumes all responsibility. According to John Rawls, In a just society the liberties of equal citizenship are taken as settled; the rights secured by justice are not subject to political bargaining or to the calculus of social interests. The only thing that permits us to acquiesce in an erroneous theory is the lack of a better one; analogously, an injustice is tolerable only when it is necessary to avoid an even greater injustice (Rawls). In the 1840s, Otto Von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of Germany, was the father of the modern welfare state. He built the program to win over the support of the working middle class in Germany and ultimately reduce the outflow of immigrants to the U.S., where welfare did not exist (Welfare State). In the United States, not all companies provided workers with benefits, thus the workers appealed to the government, giving rise to the first form of welfare capitalism. ... • 4. Comparison Of The Taiping Rebellion And Indian Mutiny The Taiping Rebellion and Indian Mutiny were both revolts caused by Britain s actions, motivated by their wish to control international trade in stride towards their Imperialistic goals of globalizing their trade network to maximize profit and control. As information was gathered on Southeast Asia, Britain became increasingly interested by the potential value of native goods. With the additional help of developing technology at the time, Britain was able to gain control via despotism. The imperialistic rule was successful as encountered regions in Southeast Asia had always easily controlled by global powers, until indigenous voices in India and China were finally heard in their fight to push back against Britain s greedy actions. Britain had found it necessary to expand their reach in India and China for various reasons, some of which being to spread Christianity, creating more ports for sailors, and benefitting trade networks. However India and China found fewer benefits in Britain s motives and their message was eventually heard as the indigenous fought Britain s globalization tactics that were not mutually beneficial but could be found on the agenda of British Imperialism. The Taiping Rebellion and The Indian Mutiny, sometimes referred to as the Sepoy Mutiny, were sparked for different reasons but both took place after the British gained influence on their respective territories. An Analyis of the Conventions of Courtly Love Within The Miller s Tale and Morte Darthur While both Morte Darthur and The Miller s Tale display some characteristics of a satirical approach in which human vices are attacked in a whimsical manner through irony, comedy, and folly, they are actually quite different in their literary genre and style. Morte Darthur , an adventurous tale with an imaginary setting that perfectly idealizes the chivalrous knight hero and his noble deeds done for the love of his lady, is a classic example of a tragic medieval romance. A fabliau, of which The Miller s Tale is an example, takes a comical approach with the typically large cast of colorful characters: the blissfully ignorant husband, the ... Within these works, neither female character feels a marital commitment, yet both feel a strong commitment to their lovers: Guinevere to Sir Lancelot, and Alison to Nicholas, this hende whom she loveth so (Chaucer 245). Sir Lancelot s commitment is also to his lover instead of his employer, who also happens to be his lover s husband. It is important to note that lovers in both Morte Darttur and The Miller s Tale did not necessarily refer to sexual partners, for love at that time was not as love is nowadays (Malory 442), but to the emotional connection between two people. At the time marriage was either an institution of convenience or a strategy used to increase familial ties within the nobility and ruling classes; it almost never had anything to do with personal choice or love. In fact, courtly love was typically not practiced within a marriage. Instead it provided a means for people to feel and express the love that was missing in their marriages, while holding on to the financial and social advantages that the marital relationship provided. Courtly lovers had secret, lustful trysts which tended to escalate into a mental and sometimes physical affair. However, it was expected that once an affair began, the lovers would be fully committed to one another, as Capellano expressly stated, No one can be bound by a double love. Throughout The Odyssey, the Blind Bard makes use of many literary techniques in order to lend meaning to the poem beyond its existence as a work of historic fiction and aid his readers in the comprehension of the tale. One of these techniques is the use of motifs. A motif is a recurring theme that is used throughout the work. In The Odyssey, Homer makes use of many motifs including eating/drinking, Odysseus s anger, bathing, and disguise, just to name a few. • 14. Robert Johnson Ramblin On My Mind Summary Musical Analysis #3 As we discussed in class, the authors all believe that blues is much more than music. I identified with the beliefs of the authors of the Robert Johnson and the Classic Blues passages. At the start of the Robert Johnson passage, the author describes the perfect possibility of the American promise as gaining energy from the pursuit of happiness. As Americans there is this innate belief that we could achieve whatever we may want and if we do not have the ability to achieve our goals, in a way we still deserve to obtain them. The author contrasts the statement, with the way that Robert Johnson delivers his blues music as a way of breaking up and uncovering this desolate America that reveals itself when it does fail you. Robert Johnson in Ramblin on My Mind , is an example of the singer wanting love in his life but having to leave it since he is hurting. Mason wrote, But the important point is that however much... he may fall back into the formula of his school, he has at his best left them far behind (289). Stages of development ‘switch on at fairly predictable time during childhood. The changes occur quiet rapidly, and allow a similar pattern in almost all children. Almost all individuals have a unique genotype. This affects their aptitudes and intelligence. Certain children have noticeable cognition deflects that limit their ability to learn. Some of the conditions that lead to such deficits are strongly influences by genetics. The Role of Learning Learning is the main process by which children acquire behaviour and understanding from the environment. Children learn in various ways and acquire new ways in learning, as they get older. Learning probably contributes more to human development has it does in any other species. This has enabled humans to adapt to living in environments and conditions that are far different from those present during much of human evolution. The role of a child in learning Children play an important and active role in their own learning. Most infants display an intense curiosity about the world. This leads them to make the most of opportunities to learn through play. Children also make demands on parents on parents in a way that leads to learning opportunities, although without necessarily realising that this is what they are doing. Right away, it was obvious I was not like the mice. I am a thinker. Sniff and Scurry reacted far too immediately for me. When the change happened, they were already out in the maze seeing what they could find. Change tends to affect me more heavily than it did the mice. I tend to use a combination of brainpower and emotion when I am looking for my Cheese just like Hem and Haw. What makes me more similar to Hem is the reaction to the change. When the Cheese goes missing, Hem experiences an intense emotional reaction. He yells and screams because he feels entitled to his Cheese. He had been enjoying the Cheese for so long that he could not imagine a situation where the Cheese was no longer there for him. Haw s reaction is much more subtle. He was sad. The Cheese being at Cheese Station C was a measure of comfort for him, and without it he was left in shock. This is precisely how I react. I tend to count on all the constant people and situations in my life. If my family, girlfriend, car, apartment, or air conditioning were ever to withdraw their presence it would leave me in shock. Just like with Haw, it is not about me having the most powerful of any of the things listed above, but more about my personal comfort with the current situation. It is highly related to physical and chemical properties of the element because any commercial usage of this element is based on its property. Also, nickel is extracted from ore, so the ore deposit of it will be highly related to the capital of any nickel related business. The laterite nickel ore deposit, Greenvale located in Queensland be focused on to reveal the genesis and other attributes of this type of nickel deposit. Ore deposit condition Most of nickel is extracted from laterite nickel ores, which consist 60% 70% of nickel on earth. This kind of ore is formed by the chemical weathering of serpentinite and other igneous rocks. Because of this requirement of weathering, deposits are located mostly in a humid tropical environment (Figure 1). (Butt Cluzel 2013) The major end product of this weathering process will be: hematite, nickeliferous limonitic ore ((Fe,Ni)O(OH).nH2O) and nickeliferous silicate ore ((Ni,Mg)6Si4O10(OH)8). Nickeliferous limonitic ore and nickeliferous silicate ore are the two dominant types of nickel ore. (Pickles 2003) uplifted oxide rich regoliths form nickeliferous limonitic ore and nickel goes downward to saprolite and combine with silicates to form nickeliferous silicate ore. The silicate ore deposits at a greater depth than the limonitic ore. Nickeliferous limonitic ores are mostly weathered product of goethites. (Butt Cluzel 2013) For both ores nickel content of each will be around 1.5%. Nickel in the silicate ore will be more than 1.5%. (Pickles 2003) Since laterite nickel ores are from the weathering of pre existing rock, the composition of surrounding rocks, topography and climate are important factors. Usually laterite nickel ores will form on olivine rich ultramafic rocks. These rocks are the basic building blocks of nickel ores. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although there are a myriad of different religions practiced by people all over the world with varying beliefs, the grand majority of widely practiced religions such as Christianity and Judaism are premised in their interpretation of the Bible. The Bible is a collection of texts written by human beings several hundred years ago, recounting a history of events from the creation of the universe by God to the supposed second coming of Christ sometime in the future. Although this is the main counterargument for the thesis of the paper, there are a myriad of examples of specific change in the religion over time depending on the societal attitudes that are ever evolving. An example of this comes from the changes or so called improvements that have come out of the Vatican. If it was just that the religion was adding new information or growing to include new information, there would not be specific changes to the Catholic interpretation of the Bible, it would be that there was no assumptions made or observed from this solidified and unchanging interpretation of the Bible. However, this is not the case as observed in the book by Maines and McCallion discussing the liturgical change in the Vatican II Church. In the book it discusses how the interpretation of the Bible in the Catholic religion has evolved over time, being influenced by the major thinkers of the time and the societal attitudes and norms of that specific time. For example, Maines and McCallion describe that there were two dominant changes with respect to Catholicism which occurred from roughly World War II to 1960 (9). These changes that occurred during this time period reflected the views of society and not only changed based on the changes in Catholics lifestyles, but changed the subsequent interpretation of the ... Darwin believed all plants and animals had changed from past families by natural selection. An example of natural selection would be the different coloration between beetles (Understanding Evolution, 2008). There are two different colored beetles, one is brown and the other is green. Since the environment cannot have an overpopulation, the green beetles will get consumed by birds and not be able to survive and reproduce as much as the brown beetles. The brown beetles have offspring because the trait has a genetic basis. When they produce more offspring, they become more common in the environment and if this process continues, the population of beetles will be mostly brown. Certain characteristics are innate within a species which help them reproduce and survive more than other species with no such inborn characteristics. These species will become more favorable and most common in the population. Darwin s theory of natural selection favors organisms that are prone to adapting well to the environment, it makes it easy to pass on their genes stabilizing the population and making it stronger. A concrete thing means that it is specific human group or association and viewed in abstract terms, it is a corporation possessing a juristic personality.
