Meridian
To be independent is to be without limitation and free of civilization, all the while, the thought of
being free of civilization, without limitation is overwhelmingly wild. In the novel Meridian, by
Alice Walker, the short presence of a character addressed as The Wild Child symbolizes the theme
of self awareness and pursuing one s life independently. Alice walker uses the short presence of The
Wild Child as an influential factor when developing her main character Meridian. The use of
characters from Meridian s ancestry, such as Feather Mae (Meridian s great grandmother) and
inanimate objects, such as The Sojourner (tree), further support the theme that The Wild Child
represents. Notably, Alice Walker writes her Meridian through a

As an activist against racism and a person of whom secludes herself from others, Meridian lives
as an outcast within society trying to avoid the judgement passed by people, just as The Wild
Child does. This shows both Meridian and The Wild Child s sense of self identity and
independence in the way that they realize that they would rather be separated from society and go
about things in their own way, the only way that they know. Although The Wild Child makes only
a brief appearance within the novel, Alice Walker makes her intentions of this character evident
by supporting the theme of self awareness and independence that The Wild Child represents with
other characters and objects. Feather Mae, Meridian s great grandmother is made out to also be a
person of free will, who is far reachinging and of an eccentric nature. Feather Mae is a woman
whoabandons all religion not founded on physical ecstasy and later results to worshiping the sun
while walking around naked. This is just as Meridian renounced religion at an early age in her
life because she had not experienced any type of ecstasy in trying to become devoted to Jesus.
Just as The Wild Child lived content in her own ways of surviving, both of these exceptional
women, Meridian and Feather Mae, endure life in their own idealistic way. Walker also emphasises
the importance of the rather large

In the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, South of Greece, lays the island of Crete refuge of the

valley of the kings in Egypt. The island s length is 260 km from East to West and its width is

They had water supply and designed a drainage system based on very ingenuous principles to fit
their palace. It is not surprising that buildings as large and complicated as the 22.000 square
meters palace at Knossos witch had over 1500 rooms led the skillful craftsman and artisan
Daedalus to elaborate the myth of labyrinth. All the great palaces had one feature in common
with the smaller ones, that they were perhaps the summer residences of the kings, the wonderful
fresco painting decorating the walls with fresh, lively scenes in an array of colors, or the
dazzling white and veined blocks of gypsum that were used to cover the walls and floors. The
social system was probably feudal and theocratic, and the king of each palace center was also the
supreme religious leader. There may have been a hierarchy of these priestkings, headed by the deity
ruler of Knossos.

Gov t Regulation in Private Sector
July 30, 2007
What are the key reasons for Government regulation of the private sector? In an economy there
are two sectors, the public and private. The private sector, by definition, is the part of a nation s
economy that isn t controlled by the government.(Investorwords). Several business organizations
make up the private sector with the three basic ones being sole proprietorships, partnerships, and
corporations. Most are for profit and part of that profit goes to the government in the form of
taxes. The private sector can be referred to as a market. Markets operate by themselves and allocate
resources efficiently, but they re not perfect. Government regulationof the private sector is justified
under two circumstances: when flaws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fairness, a moral consideration, would be a reason for why a natural monopoly would be regulated.
For developing countries, their developmental objectives such as growth are very important.
Natural monopolies like electricity or telecommunications are crucial to a nation s infrastructure.
Would an unregulated private monopoly make the proper investments necessary to offer the good
or service to everyone today and in their country s needs overt time. If mishandled, an unregulated
private monopoly could easily slow the grow of a developing country.
Why do we need antitrust laws? The antitrust law prohibits non competitive behavior and unfair
business practices. The term antitrust was originally formulated to combat business trusts , now
more commonly known as cartels. A distinction between single firm and muti firm conduct is
fundamental to the structure of the U.S. antitrust law which Philop Areeda has pointed out,
contains a basic distinction between concerted and independent action. (Areeda) Some activities are
subject to more investigation, such as price fixing, bid rigging, geographic market allocation, and
fraud. Consumer protection laws are a part of the antitrust laws. They attempt to regulate some
aspects of the relationship between consumers and businesses. Antitrust laws are further seen in
agreements of trade, monopolization and attempted monopolization, anticompetitive mergers, and
in tie in schemes. Anticompetitive behavior are typical

Distracted Driving and Cell Phones
Today, one of the major sources of automobile accidents is distracted driving due to cell phone
use. Driver distraction can be defined as the diversion of attention away from activities critical
for the safe driving toward a competing activity (Young 3). The dangers of driving while using a
cell phone cannot be overstated, but drivers still use their cell phones even though they are
illegal. According to a survey, About 2 out of 10 (18%) report that they have sent text messages
or emails while driving; about half (49%) of those 21 to 24 year olds report doing so (NHTSA).
This indicates that millions of people use their cell phones while driving everyday, and with the
increased availability and affordability of cell phones, the risk can only increase. In this paper the
topics that will be discussed in regard to cell phone use while driving include the brief history of
the cell phone, talking while driving, texting while driving, the part of the community most
affected by using cell phones, alternatives to reduce incidents, the laws that have been enacted, and
the organizations that endorse no texting while driving. In a time when rapid access to
information is valuable, cell phones have bridged the gap between the information and the user.
The cell phone came into existence when Martin Cooper, at Motorola, developed the first portable
handheld radio for the Chicago police department. The first cell phone, Motorola DynaTac, was
over 2.5 pounds and could be only used to

Selection And Development Of Talent Management
Selection and Development in Talent Management C4.12 Bellevue University Selection and
Development in Talent Management The shortage of skilled employees combined with tightening
budgets has left many organizations reassessing their talent management investments. Limited
resources and changes in the type of labor needed have left manufacturing firms with the
difficult choice of whether to invest in the development of internal talent or looking outside the
firm. The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical analysis of the selection or develop of
skilled trades in a large manufacturing organization. War for Skilled Labor Wheeler (1998)
suggests that manufacturing organizations are moving to more advanced and sophisticated
processes that require a workforce with advanced skill sets. The successful recruitment and
development of skilled labor is imperative as technological advances and complex machinery
becomes a necessity for manufacturing companies to remain competitive (Thornhill, 2006).
Michaels, Handfield Jones, and Axelrod (2001) propose that declining birth rates and earlier
retirements could create a skills shortage in critical areas. They refer to this trend as the
impending War for Talent. The aging workforce continues to be a growing concern for
organizations (Bloom, Canning, Sevilla, 2003). Thomas Calo (2008) has sent a call to action for

The Worst Phone Call Of My Life
On February 5th 2006 I received the worst phone call of my entire life. The day before was my
eighteenth birthday in which two of my best friends help celebrate with food, pop, and games!
On that night I invited my three closest friends, one of which never showed. Throughout the
night my friends and I continually phoned our friend to try and figure out why he never showed
up. After numerous attempts we decided he most likely drank too much beer, while his parents
were known to be out of town, and just passed out forgetting about my birthday. The next
morning I had a voicemail from my friends Mom asking me if he ever came over my house
because he was no were to be found. I immediately phoned my friends mother and she sadly
informed me that my friend was found in the woods unconscious after hitting a tree with his
snowmobile. He was found at 6 am in the morning by his father in 20 degree weather. My friend
was unconscious for almost 8 hours in the cold before being rushed to the University of Michigan
Medical center. I have always been interested in computers my entire life, from the engineering
aspect all the way to software development. The weeks following my friend s accident proved to

The Gospels Of Matthew, Mark And Luke
Jesus longest prophecy about the time of the end is found in the synoptic Gospels of Matthew,
Mark and Luke, with each giving their own accounts of the day that they were with Him on the
Mount of Olives. It is commonly referred to as The Olivet Prophecy, and it is an overview of the
circumstantial events that will lead to Jesusreturn. This prophecy was given during the week
before His crucifixion, and it is pivotal to understanding the future events that will affect the
entire world. The prophecy begins when Jesus and His disciples, having left the Temple, were
sitting on the Mount of Olives. They were enjoying a spectacular view and unexpectedly, Jesus
threw the disciples a curve when He announced that the beautiful Temple they were admiring
was going to be destroyed. Being curious and very concerned, Peter, James, John, and Andrew
asked Him to tell them when this prophecy of such end time doom was going to take place. Jesus
is so smart; He knew that they would want to know more. The apostle Mark s account of the
Olivet Prophecy which is found in Mark 13 says that Jesus revealed to them the conditions that
would be present on the Earth that would lead up to His return. He said it would be a time of
increasing trouble and turmoil. He warned them that at a future time on Earth; man would have the
capability to destroy all of human life. Matthew, however, gives a more descriptive account of what
Jesus said that day, For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not

The Employment Status Of Workers Essay
INTRODUCTION
It is certainly true that the current law defining the employment status of workers is uncertain, as
it is wholly inflexible to deal effectively with cases of non standard forms of employment,
atypical workers, for example: agency workers, part time workers, fixed term workers, as required
workers and homeworkers. Thus, reform is necessary to redress the concerns of lack of legal
certainty in relation to this area of the law.
This essay will argue that the concept of worker defined under section 230 of the Employment
Rights Act ( ERA ) 1996 is board; however, due to the undefined scope of section 230(3) of ERA
1996, employment tribunals and the courts have adapted a rigid approach in their interpretation;
that there is a high degree of legal uncertainty as established in this area of law; that the law does
not adequately deal with non standard forms of workers ; present proposals for reform by the UK
Parliament on the interpretation and application of law at common; and finally provide a
conclusion for the arguments put forth.
THE CURRENT STATE OF THE LAW Firstly, employment tribunals and the courts have
interpreted the concept of workers too narrowly, by limiting the common law interpretation of
workers under section 230(3) of the ERA 1996 and rights conferred on workers. Under section
230(3) ERA 1996, worker is defined as an individual who has entered into work: under a contract

Various Views on Unethical Behavior Essay
From the beginning of humanity, some form of principles about morals, right and wrong,
professionalism, etc. has been established. In most cases these rules or codes were never officially
recorded in earlier times, but they were naturally understood laws that governed human behavior.
These laws have been transformed and molded through past centuries by the brilliant minds of
philosophers such as Plato into a code of conduct that is categorized into what we now call ethics.
Ethics has everything to do with the golden rule of treating others as you would like to be treated
and the natural rights granted to everyday people. Humans have the right to life, physical integrity,

Every engineer should follow these cannons (everybody in any profession should also) but,
realistically, these rules are sometimes pushed aside. When the decision is made to overlook ethics,
terrible things can sometimes happen. Engineering disasters occur every day, and I believe that
most of the time it is material impurities/failure. However, an engineer isn t perfect, and unethical
behavior has been the cause of countless disasters such as the Challenger explosion, the Kansas
City Hyatt Regency walkway collapse, etc. I want to know where engineers have gone wrong.
What causes an engineer or anybody out there to make an unethical decision? Carelessness due to
laziness, strict deadlines, and people higher up in command could all be factors behind disasters.
The laziness and carelessness factor is a very broad subject when talking about ethics. Everything

How Does Kromer Influence In Demian
The Foundation Of Childhood Life can be described as a skyscraper. When childhood morality
builds a strong foundation, one can reach great heights. However, when built with a weak, unstable
foundation, life s obstacles undermine the building, causing it to crumble to the ground. In the
novel, Demian, Hermann Hesse pursues the idea of how external influence from Emil Sinclair s
peers, during his childhoodlead to his heretic belief in Abraxas. Through encounters with Kromer
and Demian, Sinclair s ethical spectrum shifts to the darker side of life, which he never confronts
before, due to his parents upbringing. Sinclair s abusive relationship with Kromer catalyzes his
metamorphosis from virtuous to villainous. Weak and vulnerable, he let[s] the devil take the
hindmost (16). The devil represents Kromer, tempting Sinclair to follow him on the Highway to

himself. He saves Sinclair from his oppressor, only to introduce his own influence. Like Kromer,

The Army Campaign Plan
the most important and why? Give an example of something that the Army could do to enhance
capabilities in that domain. The most important imperative of four in the Army Campaign Plan is
develop leaders to meet the challenges of the 21st century because in the future leaders will deal a

can only be assumed that these type of actions will increase. In this case future leaders must be

in policy. It does the US Army a disservice if policies are not implemented to address the above
challenges. In the JCIDS process, the role of concepts in developing capabilities include turning

Essay about 2001 A Space Odyssey Analysis
2001: A Space Odyssey
The following paper will analyze the movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick and The

film, the following are the most dominant. I will be discussing Scientific themes, Religious and
Moral Themes, and Clarke s development of the short story into a full length film.
The first issue, I will be discussing the scientific themes of the movie. The movie, 2001: A Space

www.dictionary.com defines a monolith as something, such as a column or monument, made
from one large block of stone. This is first portrayed in the first couple of scenes in the movie. As
the gorilla finds the monolith, picks it up and uses it as a weapon to kill prey. Next, when the
gorilla throws the bone up in to the air, it becomes a space ship over Earth. As I researched, this
was the longest time change in history of all the movies. Considering the bone became the
spaceship just shows that even though technologically people have progressed, the minds still
stayed relatively the same with the same goals. As a saying my mother once told me, Men are
like children, but when they get older they change their toys. I find this to be relevant in 2001 as
the time change only portrays a different time period but more or less the same content. Because
the movie is very slow paced, in my opinion, it gives the viewer a lot of time to question everything
that is happening and make sure to understand everything. There is not much conversation there
either which is not serving as another distraction. Makes the theme of the movie very clear. Stanley

The moldable mind once filled with practical applications will understand the lessons taught by
the novel. Daniel Defoe, author of the novel, wrote about singular man on an island fighting to

Patriarchy In The Han Dynasty
Patriarchy is a system that determines the hierarchy of men within a society and defines men as the
head of the household. Patriarchy provided men with family authority which acted as a model for
political authority. In ancient China, emperorship was passed on through hereditary principles
within a ruling familylineage or dynasty. The Han dynasty had adopted Confucianism as the state
ideology of Northern China, which implemented changes to the social order. Confucius believed
that everyone should be taught their role in society, but his teachings did little to help women learn
their roles. Ban Zhao, a female Chinese historian born in the first century to a famous family in the
Han dynasty, wrote Lessons for a Woman. Her work highlighted the importance of male authority
and women s perspectives of the patriarchal society that was influenced by Confucianism.
Confucianism is a philosophy that focused on family and social harmony, rather than on spiritual
values. Women s roles were not clearly defined by Confucianism, and many women were
uneducated on the role they played in the household and society. Ban Zhao wrote Lessons for a

America Imagine The World Without Her Essay
There are many documentaries about America, one particular documentary has been written by Mr.

of conservative sparks a variety of opinions in America society that shows indignity, empathy, and
awareness in the audience. Although I disagree that the Affordable Care Plan as a masterpiece of

It is clear that Mr. Danish D Souza bias is against the government in the documentary America

regard of the Obama Care plan; Saul Alinsky was a Jewish American community organizer and
writer who was a radical from the left ideology. Mr. D Souza argued that Saul Alinsky had three
strategies Polarization, Demonization, and Deception which the President Barack Obama used in
the Affordable Care Act, and he pointed out that Affordable Care Act is a masterpiece of extortion
and distortion; to be specific, he added Obama gives the impression that he is colluding with us
against the insurance companies, but in reality, he is colluding with the insurance companies

companies to make profit and force Americans to buy insurance. He claimed that Obama is forcing
American to buy insurance they do not want to buy.

reconciliation challenge. It is difficult to change the old behaviour of some people. This is
because it has become habit to them. Changing the people behaviour and introduce the new
practice will cause a conflict between follower and leader. Donahue explained that in order to
handle the conflict and ask the follower to stop the bad habit, the leader should speak the truth but
do it in a gracious, even tone, seeking to understand the other person even as they point out the

Second challenge is learning challenge. Leader will faced problem in teach the entire follower.

I Was A Warehouse Wage Slave By Mac Mcclelland
The American Dream has been drilled into the heads of almost all Americans and quite a few
foreigners. The idea is that Every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success
and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative . The most common misconception
foreigners have about America, is that the streets are paved with gold and poverty does not exist,
when in reality the streets are not paved at all. As an American citizen, I cannot full heartedly
believe that people are determined by the country they were born into because I believe that if
someone is determined enough to succeed, such a person will. Living in a third world country
undoubtedly has its setbacks but it is not a set determination of one s fate. The essay, I Was a
Warehouse Wage Slave by Mac McClelland fully supports the idea that people have to fight for
what they desire in life, while the other essay s My Summer at an Indian Call Center by Andrew
Maran, and, The New Mecca by George Saunderssuggest that success is determined by place of
birth. Although the essays disagree about the foundation of success, they have many similarities
regarding how people s identities are affected by demanding jobs. All three essays demonstrate that
the workers identities are distorted because they are forced to sacrifice their own wants and needs,
and to adopt an identity according to their companies preference, so that the shoppers, tourist etc.

The Giver Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Giver started off as a book. Then it was transformed into a movie. These are some differences

brings me to my next reason. They added a special вќ¤ between Jonas and Fionaп’‹ that was not in
the book. In the movie there was a lot of things left out. Like in the movie they skipped a year.
When you look In the book it showed when he was a 11 and then his sister was waiting for a bike.
Also when Jonasleft in the movie the givergave him the memory of strength and courage. In the
book he does not receive the memories of strength and courage. In the movie when Jonas was
escaping from the community he rode off in a motorcycle from one of the leaders. In the book
he rode a bike. In the book when Jonas is riding away with Gabe he has to hide behind trees and

something bad out. So then he wants to leave because his brother is going to be killed. He has to
go to elsewhere to give the community all of the memories. The book says that there is no color.
In the movie it is all in black and white until the very end where he gives everyone the memories.
In the book they all have the same jobs as the movie they did not add any or take any away. The

The Qualities of a Leader
The qualities of one s leaders play a vital role in determining the success or failure of a society.
Virtuous leaders let a nation succeed when its at its greatest peril. The effectiveness of the leader
allows the nation to be great and the fulfill their mission. Over the years, the view on what an
effective government is has changed. In the 6th Century China, a Philosopher named Lao Tzu saw
an effective government as one that used war last, that the ideal form of governing is to have
minimal effect on peoples lives. In the 13th Century Italy, Machiavelli, a diplomat and philosopher,
advised that the prince should be well versed in the art of war, and should exercise qualities and
laws that bring them praise so their position is not disputed. While both views seem to be extreme
of a spectrum it will be clear the Machiavelli s Prince is the better leader for the modern society.
On the Subject of war and conflict, Lao Tzu deems it a last resort as it leads to suffering no
matter the outcome. When a country goes counter to the Tao, warheads are stockpiled outside
the cities. (Kindle Locations 1934 1935) Lao Tzu here is stating that once we stray from the
ideal path, pain and suffering will follow. Fear is the greatest enemy and is what leads to conflict. It
is once a person finds pleasure in war, they lose themselves and are no longer his idea of the ideal
man and is instead a

Role Of Copper In The Chain Of Life Essay
INTRODUCTION: COPPER S PLACE IN THE CHAIN OF LIFE
For good health and vitality, the human body needs several key nutrients that work together, like
the links of a chain. If one of the links is broken, the chain is ineffective hence the saying: A chain
is as strong as its weakest link. The nutrients that form the chain of life are carbohydrates, protein,
vitamins, enzymes, lipids and sterols and minerals. All the six must be present in adequate
quantities for life to thrive.
Minerals, the group that copper belongs to, are critical to every chemical reaction that occurs in the
body. Whether it s energy production, tissue manufacture, protein synthesis, water balance or

Consumption of high amounts of zinc can help remove of excess copper from the body.
COPPER RICH FOODS
Because the human body cannot synthesize copper, this mineral must be obtained exclusively
from diet in trace amounts. You ll get dietary copper from a wide variety of foods, which include
dark green leafy vegetables such as kale and spinach; seafood such as oysters, squid and lobster;
dried legumes such as kidney beans and soy and nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts and cashew nuts.
Other food sources of copper include organ meat such as liver, avocado, chocolate, dried peaches,
figs and raisins. Drinking water supplied through copper pipes also delivers some small quantities
of copper, even though most people don t anything about it. Such an abundance of dietary sources
of copper might suggest that there s no need for supplementation. But a recent research has
established an emerging trend that should get people to sit up and listen. According to a recent
survey, only 25% of Americans are consuming a daily amount of copper that the US Food and

Banning Books In Schools
Catchy Title
As a teen, students should not be exposed to the inappropriateness that are put in books at such a
young age. There are several reasons that banned books should be kept out of the classrooms. A
few specifically are, racial issues, inappropriate language and sexual profanity. Some people
believe books should be banned in schools/libraries because it is putting inappropriate knowledge
in at such a young age.
First, Racial Issues is a main conflict going around across the world, we never thought it would
come down to being in children s books. For example, To Kill A Mockingbird uses the N word
directly (Lee 108). Students with different races should not have to experience those kinds of
things in books they are reading in school. It offends people with race. To Kill A Mockingbird
also states racial groups(Lee 109). Books children read in schools should not state racial groups
directly. It can upset people with race. Students will easily be offended by this kind of stuff.
Also, Inappropriate Language is used immensely throughout kids books. Exposing inappropriate
language into kids heads at such a young age. Therefore, Without parental permission students
should not be able to read this stuff. Students read it and than think that it is ok to say. To Kill A

Terrorism is terrorist activity either made on one s homeland or made on another person s country,
which is/has become a huge concern for the United States. After the attacks of September 11, 2001,
the US has taken huge measures to make sure there were not foreign attacks made on US soil
again, but what about domestic attacks? The attacks of 9/11 left more than 3,000 civilians dead and
more injured, but the number of deaths caused by homegrown terrorism far exceeds that number.
Because of the amount of homegrown terrorism in the US one starts to think is homegrown

Corruption In George Orwell s Animal Farm
In every society, power and regulation is necessary in ensuring an established population.
Without leaders who have jurisdiction and administrative power, chaos and disorder can break
loose. However, what if this power is given to leaders who will not stop the chaos, but only create
it? What if the possession of absolute power creates leaders who do not fear whether their people
suffer, but instead only fear the loss of their position as absolute? This idea, that power can corrupt,
is prominent in the Fairy Story, Animal Farm written by George Orwell. Though this idea is not
expressed directly to readers, Orwell s use of symbolism plays a major role in allowing readers to

Initially, the purpose of building a windmill is to make the animals lives easier. Snowball argues
of the benefits a windmill would bring the animals, declaring that so much labor would be saved
that the animals would only need to work three days a week (Orwell, 33). Through this
declaration, Snowball argues that through the introduction of industrialization on the farm, the
amount of strenuous labor the animals experienced would decrease, allowing them to live easier
lifestyles. However, as the story progresses, and the animals workload only increases in order to
build the windmill, readers are able to understand that the benefits of the windmill and a lifestyle
of ease will not be attained by all the animals, but only by the pigs. All that year the animals
worked like slaves. But they were happy in their work, they grudged no effort or sacrifice, well
aware that everything that they did was for the benefit of themselves, and those of their kind who
would come after them, and not for a pack of idle thieving human beings (Orwell, 40). Through this
quote, the animals express their feelings towards the windmill, viewing it as a symbol of freedom
from their human oppressors and their blind acceptance of their current state of suffering. Believing

The Truman Show Thesis Statement
1.Introduction
The film, The Truman Show (1998) is about the man named Truman Burbank, a first child who is
legally adopted legally by the broadcasting company and been unknowingly publicizing his entire
life as an entertaining show to the whole world. Although he lives in the world where everything is
manipulated, at least for him, he is just like a normal man with own family, friends, and job. The
difference between others and Truman lies on the taboo that Truman has attained through the
traumatic event of losing his own father. His taboo is that he is incapable of living the city,
Seahaven as leaving the city signifies knowing the truth of his life. The film majorly depicts the
moment when Truman realized skepticism around his entire life and departs the journey to find the
truth and real identity
Throughout this journey to find the truth, lots of similarities between the life of Truman and

Police Enforcement And The Security Of The Virtual City...
Abstract
This essay is an examination of community policing as it relates to the interests of the Virtual City
Police Department. Advances in technology has changed police work, officers are incorporating
technology and sophisticated investigative techniques to solve crimes. This essay will focus on the
pros and cons of community policing in a modern society, where police officers must rely more on
technology and forensics than citizens to solve crimes and apprehend criminals.
Introduction
Police have been linked to citizens since the reform era redefined the nature of the relationship
between police and citizens (Kelling, Moore, 1988). The new model demanded an impartial law
officer who related professionally, neutrally, and in distant terms to citizens. Weaknesses in the
model were displayed through a decentralized organizational structure which failed to provide
supervision to patrol officers, resulting in a rise in police corruption (Kelling, Moore, 1988).
Continuing reformations put officers in automobiles reasoning that the automobile would increase
the extent of the patrol and give the officers a greater advantage over criminals (Kelling, Moore,
1988). As more officers patrolled in automobiles the rapport of community relations was lost,
officers were no longer an intimate part of the community structure. The decline in contact between
the citizens and police was not helped by the centralization of precincts, as smaller

The Yellow Rose Of Texas
Texas is well known for its history throughout time. Following the history of Texas, there are many
different myths and legends. From the First Texans to the Legend of Houston, the oil industry all
the way to the myth of the Cowboy Culture. I m going to talk about just ten of these myths and
legends that I find interesting. The Yellow Rose of Texas
is about a young slave woman by the
name of Emily West Morgan in the antebellum era in Texas. The myth has it that Emily was the
reason that Santa Anna lost the Battle of Jacinto, by distracting him during Houston s surprise
attack. According to the legend, Santa Anna was attracted to Emily and she uses this to help
distract Santa Anna from his military duties. Thus allowing Houston to achieve his surprise
attack. This is in the reading because there is a lot of talk whether the Yellow Rose was indeed
apart of Houston s victory at the Battle of Jacinto. The Legend of Sam Houston and his true
intentions for Texas. This Legend is about Sam Houston and his arrival in Texas in December
1832. It is said that when he arrived in Mexico, he carried with him an American passport to
identify him as an official of the United States. It seems unlikely that he went to talk with the
Comanche Indians since he has never met with them before. Instead it is believed that Houston was
sent to Mexico by President Andrew Jackson as a plan to annex this region to the United States.

A major issue when treating alcoholism is the likelihood of relapse. A lack of social support may
contribute to an increased likelihood of relapse, while maintaining positive social support can

animals that had been previously exposed to ethanolshow increased consumption after a period of

relatable fable, as Taylor Ellison explores... Bram Stoker s Dracula
Love is not black and white and Francis Ford Coppola s ageless classic Bram Stoker s Dracula
epitomises the many layers that come with romance. The dark love story highlights the romance
of the gothic horror and still manages to convey the fear and terror that cemented the original
novel as an iconic and memorable classic. Coppola s imaginative view of a timeless tale embodies
the gothic genre, with strong themes of romance, sexuality and lust, as the complexity of love is
exposed. Coppola allows us an insight into his processes when creating this epic narrative.

ABSTRACT
This technical paper consists of the study of data mining algorithm in cloud computing. Cloud
Computing is an environment created in user s machine from online application stored in clouds
and run through web browser. Therefore, it is essential to manage user s data efficiently. Data
mining also known as knowledge discovery is the process of analyzing data from different
perspectives and summarizing it into useful information where the information can be used to
increase revenue, cut costs of implementation and maintenances, or all. Data mining software and/or
algorithms is one of a number of analytical tools for analyzing data. It allows users to analyze
data from many different dimensions or angles, categorize it, and summarize the relationships
identified. Technically, data mining is the process of finding correlations or patterns among
dozens of fields in large relational databases. The process of mining data can be done in many
ways; this paper discusses the theoretical study of two algorithms K means and Apriori, their
explanation using flow chart and pseudo code, and comparison for time and space complexity of
the two for the dataset of an Online Retail Shop .

In the novel Meridian, by Alice Walker, the short presence of a character addressed as The Wild Child symbolizes the theme of self awareness and pursuing one s life independently. Alice walker uses the short presence of The Wild Child as an influential factor when developing her main character Meridian. The use of characters from Meridian s ancestry, such as Feather Mae (Meridian s great grandmother) and inanimate objects, such as The Sojourner (tree), further support the theme that The Wild Child represents. Notably, Alice Walker writes her Meridian through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an activist against racism and a person of whom secludes herself from others, Meridian lives as an outcast within society trying to avoid the judgement passed by people, just as The Wild Child does. This shows both Meridian and The Wild Child s sense of self identity and independence in the way that they realize that they would rather be separated from society and go about things in their own way, the only way that they know. Although The Wild Child makes only a brief appearance within the novel, Alice Walker makes her intentions of this character evident by supporting the theme of self awareness and independence that The Wild Child represents with other characters and objects. Feather Mae, Meridian s great grandmother is made out to also be a person of free will, who is far reachinging and of an eccentric nature. Feather Mae is a woman whoabandons all religion not founded on physical ecstasy and later results to worshiping the sun while walking around naked. This is just as Meridian renounced religion at an early age in her life because she had not experienced any type of ecstasy in trying to become devoted to Jesus. Just as The Wild Child lived content in her own ways of surviving, both of these exceptional women, Meridian and Feather Mae, endure life in their own idealistic way. It is not surprising that buildings as large and complicated as the 22.000 square meters palace at Knossos witch had over 1500 rooms led the skillful craftsman and artisan Daedalus to elaborate the myth of labyrinth. All the great palaces had one feature in common with the smaller ones, that they were perhaps the summer residences of the kings, the wonderful fresco painting decorating the walls with fresh, lively scenes in an array of colors, or the dazzling white and veined blocks of gypsum that were used to cover the walls and floors. The social system was probably feudal and theocratic, and the king of each palace center was also the supreme religious leader. There may have been a hierarchy of these priestkings, headed by the deity ruler of Knossos. For developing countries, their developmental objectives such as growth are very important. Natural monopolies like electricity or telecommunications are crucial to a nation s infrastructure. Would an unregulated private monopoly make the proper investments necessary to offer the good or service to everyone today and in their country s needs overt time. If mishandled, an unregulated private monopoly could easily slow the grow of a developing country. Why do we need antitrust laws? The antitrust law prohibits non competitive behavior and unfair business practices. The term antitrust was originally formulated to combat business trusts , now more commonly known as cartels. A distinction between single firm and muti firm conduct is fundamental to the structure of the U.S. antitrust law which Philop Areeda has pointed out, contains a basic distinction between concerted and independent action. • 5. Distracted Driving and Cell Phones Today, one of the major sources of automobile accidents is distracted driving due to cell phone use. Driver distraction can be defined as the diversion of attention away from activities critical for the safe driving toward a competing activity (Young 3). The dangers of driving while using a cell phone cannot be overstated, but drivers still use their cell phones even though they are illegal. According to a survey, About 2 out of 10 (18%) report that they have sent text messages or emails while driving; about half (49%) of those 21 to 24 year olds report doing so (NHTSA). This indicates that millions of people use their cell phones while driving everyday, and with the increased availability and affordability of cell phones, the risk can only increase. In this paper the topics that will be discussed in regard to cell phone use while driving include the brief history of the cell phone, talking while driving, texting while driving, the part of the community most affected by using cell phones, alternatives to reduce incidents, the laws that have been enacted, and the organizations that endorse no texting while driving. In a time when rapid access to information is valuable, cell phones have bridged the gap between the information and the user. Limited resources and changes in the type of labor needed have left manufacturing firms with the difficult choice of whether to invest in the development of internal talent or looking outside the firm. The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical analysis of the selection or develop of skilled trades in a large manufacturing organization. War for Skilled Labor Wheeler (1998) suggests that manufacturing organizations are moving to more advanced and sophisticated processes that require a workforce with advanced skill sets. The successful recruitment and development of skilled labor is imperative as technological advances and complex machinery becomes a necessity for manufacturing companies to remain competitive (Thornhill, 2006). Michaels, Handfield Jones, and Axelrod (2001) propose that declining birth rates and earlier retirements could create a skills shortage in critical areas. They refer to this trend as the impending War for Talent. The aging workforce continues to be a growing concern for organizations (Bloom, Canning, Sevilla, 2003). Throughout the night my friends and I continually phoned our friend to try and figure out why he never showed up. After numerous attempts we decided he most likely drank too much beer, while his parents were known to be out of town, and just passed out forgetting about my birthday. The next morning I had a voicemail from my friends Mom asking me if he ever came over my house because he was no were to be found. I immediately phoned my friends mother and she sadly informed me that my friend was found in the woods unconscious after hitting a tree with his snowmobile. He was found at 6 am in the morning by his father in 20 degree weather. My friend was unconscious for almost 8 hours in the cold before being rushed to the University of Michigan Medical center. The Gospels Of Matthew, Mark And Luke Jesus longest prophecy about the time of the end is found in the synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, with each giving their own accounts of the day that they were with Him on the Mount of Olives. It is commonly referred to as The Olivet Prophecy, and it is an overview of the circumstantial events that will lead to Jesusreturn. This prophecy was given during the week before His crucifixion, and it is pivotal to understanding the future events that will affect the entire world. The prophecy begins when Jesus and His disciples, having left the Temple, were sitting on the Mount of Olives. They were enjoying a spectacular view and unexpectedly, Jesus threw the disciples a curve when He announced that the beautiful Temple they were admiring was going to be destroyed. Being curious and very concerned, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him to tell them when this prophecy of such end time doom was going to take place. Jesus is so smart; He knew that they would want to know more. The apostle Mark s account of the Olivet Prophecy which is found in Mark 13 says that Jesus revealed to them the conditions that would be present on the Earth that would lead up to His return. He said it would be a time of increasing trouble and turmoil. He warned them that at a future time on Earth; man would have the capability to destroy all of human life. • 11. The Employment Status Of Workers Essay INTRODUCTION It is certainly true that the current law defining the employment status of workers is uncertain, as it is wholly inflexible to deal effectively with cases of non standard forms of employment, atypical workers, for example: agency workers, part time workers, fixed term workers, as required workers and homeworkers. Thus, reform is necessary to redress the concerns of lack of legal certainty in relation to this area of the law. This essay will argue that the concept of worker defined under section 230 of the Employment Rights Act ( ERA ) 1996 is board; however, due to the undefined scope of section 230(3) of ERA 1996, employment tribunals and the courts have adapted a rigid approach in their interpretation; that there is a high degree of legal uncertainty as established in this area of law; that the law does not adequately deal with non standard forms of workers ; present proposals for reform by the UK Parliament on the interpretation and application of law at common; and finally provide a conclusion for the arguments put forth. THE CURRENT STATE OF THE LAW Firstly, employment tribunals and the courts have interpreted the concept of workers too narrowly, by limiting the common law interpretation of workers under section 230(3) of the ERA 1996 and rights conferred on workers. Virtuous leaders let a nation succeed when its at its greatest peril. The effectiveness of the leader allows the nation to be great and the fulfill their mission. Over the years, the view on what an effective government is has changed. In the 6th Century China, a Philosopher named Lao Tzu saw an effective government as one that used war last, that the ideal form of governing is to have minimal effect on peoples lives. In the 13th Century Italy, Machiavelli, a diplomat and philosopher, advised that the prince should be well versed in the art of war, and should exercise qualities and laws that bring them praise so their position is not disputed. While both views seem to be extreme of a spectrum it will be clear the Machiavelli s Prince is the better leader for the modern society. A few specifically are, racial issues, inappropriate language and sexual profanity. Some people believe books should be banned in schools/libraries because it is putting inappropriate knowledge in at such a young age. First, Racial Issues is a main conflict going around across the world, we never thought it would come down to being in children s books. For example, To Kill A Mockingbird uses the N word directly (Lee 108). Students with different races should not have to experience those kinds of things in books they are reading in school. It offends people with race. To Kill A Mockingbird also states racial groups(Lee 109). Books children read in schools should not state racial groups directly. It can upset people with race. Students will easily be offended by this kind of stuff. Also, Inappropriate Language is used immensely throughout kids books. Exposing inappropriate language into kids heads at such a young age. Therefore, Without parental permission students should not be able to read this stuff. Students read it and than think that it is ok to say. To Kill A Mockingbird and several other children ... • 32. A Brief Note On The Terrorism And Terrorism Canan Kumas POLS 431 01 Globalization and Security Dr. Daniel Herman Research Paper Homegrown Terrorism Terrorism is terrorist activity either made on one s homeland or made on another person s country, which is/has become a huge concern for the United States. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, the US has taken huge measures to make sure there were not foreign attacks made on US soil again, but what about domestic attacks? The attacks of 9/11 left more than 3,000 civilians dead and more injured, but the number of deaths caused by homegrown terrorism far exceeds that number. Because of the amount of homegrown terrorism in the US one starts to think is homegrown terrorism a bigger threat to the US than international terrorism? Post 9/11 Attacks Made on the US In 2001, under Resolution 1373, all 192 members of the UN agreed that terrorism a serious domestic crime, abiding by or abetting to terrorism, or material helping terrorists would be serious offenses. Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security expressed her huge concern on the rise of homegrown terrorism. Since 9/11 there have been 37 domestic terrorist attacks on US soil. The Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation states that the dangers of the al Qaeda organization have receded due to the growing threat of homegrown terrorists. • 33. Corruption In George Orwell s Animal Farm In every society, power and regulation is necessary in ensuring an established population. Without leaders who have jurisdiction and administrative power, chaos and disorder can break loose. However, what if this power is given to leaders who will not stop the chaos, but only create it? What if the possession of absolute power creates leaders who do not fear whether their people suffer, but instead only fear the loss of their position as absolute? This idea, that power can corrupt, is prominent in the Fairy Story, Animal Farm written by George Orwell. Though this idea is not expressed directly to readers, Orwell s use of symbolism plays a major role in allowing readers to successfully understand that power can corrupt. The building of Animal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, the purpose of building a windmill is to make the animals lives easier. Snowball argues of the benefits a windmill would bring the animals, declaring that so much labor would be saved that the animals would only need to work three days a week (Orwell, 33). Through this declaration, Snowball argues that through the introduction of industrialization on the farm, the amount of strenuous labor the animals experienced would decrease, allowing them to live easier lifestyles. However, as the story progresses, and the animals workload only increases in order to build the windmill, readers are able to understand that the benefits of the windmill and a lifestyle of ease will not be attained by all the animals, but only by the pigs. All that year the animals worked like slaves. But they were happy in their work, they grudged no effort or sacrifice, well aware that everything that they did was for the benefit of themselves, and those of their kind who would come after them, and not for a pack of idle thieving human beings (Orwell, 40). Through this quote, the animals express their feelings towards the windmill, viewing it as a symbol of freedom from their human oppressors and their blind acceptance of their current state of suffering. Believing that the windmills produce will someday benefit themselves, the animals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In an effort to keep the United States from playing an effective role in the war in Europe, Germany offered Mexico the opportunity to regain Texas and other territories lost to the United States during the nineteenth century, in return for a Mexican declaration of war against the U.S. The telegram backfired, as its release by British authorities brought the U.S. closer to war with Germany. Tactically, the First World War introduced wireless communications to the battlefield, increasing flexibility but making codes and ciphers even more essential in guaranteeing security. The Truman Show Thesis Statement 1.Introduction The film, The Truman Show (1998) is about the man named Truman Burbank, a first child who is legally adopted legally by the broadcasting company and been unknowingly publicizing his entire life as an entertaining show to the whole world. Although he lives in the world where everything is manipulated, at least for him, he is just like a normal man with own family, friends, and job. The difference between others and Truman lies on the taboo that Truman has attained through the traumatic event of losing his own father. His taboo is that he is incapable of living the city, Seahaven as leaving the city signifies knowing the truth of his life. The film majorly depicts the moment when Truman realized skepticism around his entire life and departs the journey to find the truth and real identity Throughout this journey to find the truth, lots of similarities between the life of Truman and Siddhartha can be found. • 37. Police Enforcement And The Security Of The Virtual City... Abstract This essay is an examination of community policing as it relates to the interests of the Virtual City Police Department. Advances in technology has changed police work, officers are incorporating technology and sophisticated investigative techniques to solve crimes. This essay will focus on the pros and cons of community policing in a modern society, where police officers must rely more on technology and forensics than citizens to solve crimes and apprehend criminals. Introduction Police have been linked to citizens since the reform era redefined the nature of the relationship between police and citizens (Kelling, Moore, 1988). The new model demanded an impartial law officer who related professionally, neutrally, and in distant terms to citizens. Weaknesses in the model were displayed through a decentralized organizational structure which failed to provide supervision to patrol officers, resulting in a rise in police corruption (Kelling, Moore, 1988). Continuing reformations put officers in automobiles reasoning that the automobile would increase the extent of the patrol and give the officers a greater advantage over criminals (Kelling, Moore, 1988). As more officers patrolled in automobiles the rapport of community relations was lost, officers were no longer an intimate part of the community structure. The decline in contact between the citizens and police was not helped by the centralization of precincts, as smaller ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the First Texans to the Legend of Houston, the oil industry all the way to the myth of the Cowboy Culture. I m going to talk about just ten of these myths and legends that I find interesting. The Yellow Rose of Texas is about a young slave woman by the name of Emily West Morgan in the antebellum era in Texas. The myth has it that Emily was the reason that Santa Anna lost the Battle of Jacinto, by distracting him during Houston s surprise attack. According to the legend, Santa Anna was attracted to Emily and she uses this to help distract Santa Anna from his military duties. Thus allowing Houston to achieve his surprise attack. This is in the reading because there is a lot of talk whether the Yellow Rose was indeed apart of Houston s victory at the Battle of Jacinto. The Legend of Sam Houston and his true intentions for Texas. This Legend is about Sam Houston and his arrival in Texas in December 1832. It is said that when he arrived in Mexico, he carried with him an American passport to identify him as an official of the United States. It seems unlikely that he went to talk with the Comanche Indians since he has never met with them before. Instead it is believed that Houston was sent to Mexico by President Andrew Jackson as a plan to annex this region to the United States. A lack of social support may contribute to an increased likelihood of relapse, while maintaining positive social support can decrease this risk. One study discussed the possibility of social interaction influencing relapse behavior in the prairie vole. This study focused on the alcoholdeprivation effect (ADE), where animals that had been previously exposed to ethanolshow increased consumption after a period of abstinence, modeling relapse behavior commonly seen in addiction. The aim of the study was first to observe whether prairie voles, like mice and rats in previous experiments, could display an ADE and second, to determine whether this effect could be influenced by social... During a four day period, animals were continually given water and had access to 10% ethanol each day. Data mining also known as knowledge discovery is the process of analyzing data from different perspectives and summarizing it into useful information where the information can be used to increase revenue, cut costs of implementation and maintenances, or all. Data mining software and/or algorithms is one of a number of analytical tools for analyzing data. It allows users to analyze data from many different dimensions or angles, categorize it, and summarize the relationships identified. Technically, data mining is the process of finding correlations or patterns among dozens of fields in large relational databases. The process of mining data can be done in many ways; this paper discusses the theoretical study of two algorithms K means and Apriori, their explanation using flow chart and pseudo code, and comparison for time and space complexity of the two for the dataset of an Online Retail Shop .
