BASIC TEACHING
MODEL OF
GLASER
BY
MEERA KRISHNAN
2
INTRODUCTION
 Developed by Robert Glaser in 1962
 Relationship between teaching and learning.
 Simple and adequate conceptualization
 Belongs to psychological model
Why this model is considered as
basic teaching model?
 The process of teaching in terms of
elements used.
 Applied to all levels of education
elementary, secondary and higher.
 Applied to any subject matter
 Teaching for long time is possible
Basic components involved in
teaching –learning process
Divided into four basic components
Instructional objectives
Entry behaviour
Instructional procedures
Performance assessment
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
 The student should attain upon completion of a unit
of instruction
 Specific, general or in behavioural term
 Instruction should be effective and systematic
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
 Initial behaviour of a learner
 It is essential to detect the entering behaviour
of the learner before giving instructions
 It is just like previous knowledge of a subject or
the performance of the learner in terms of
educational abilities
 Transformation of student from entry
behaviour to terminal behaviour
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE
 It is the active part of the learner
 Indicates the method, procedure and
strategies of teaching
 Depends on two previous components
PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENTS
 If the need arises objectives may be modified
the instructional procedure may be improved
and assessment of performance is made
again.
 Observation ,interview, rating scale
 All components are interrelated
Assumptions of basic teaching
model
 It is developed on the assumption that
“every lesson assumes some knowledge on
the part of the learner”.
 Through instructional procedure , the
teacher guides the learner from entry
behaviour to terminal behaviour.
