• An adverb phrase is a prepositional phrase that modifies a verb, an
adjective, or another adverb
• Adverb phrases tell when, where, why, how or to what degree.
1. The travelers left the hotel in the morning.
2. The family went to Vermont last December.
3. Throughout history people have shown curiosity about their
surroundings.
4. Blues music has remained popular over the years.
5. Most people wear comfortable clothes inside their homes.

• An adverb clause is a dependent clause that functions as an adverb.
• Adverb clauses tell when, where, why or how the action of the main
clause occurs.
1. You should give the iron time to heat up before you iron your
clothes.

3. You need proper shoes to go hiking in the mountains because the
ground is rough and hard.
4. People in 1793 got yellow fever when they were bitten by a
mosquito.
