Skateboarding Memoir
Another memoir? It feels like the teachers in every grade meet and come up with the same
assignments. It s pointless. At least it s like a free period. It s why I sat in the back. I can be fully
secluded and do what I want, even though it s a large open library. Jam out, watch some videos,
whatever. I won t do well on this paper or in this class, but forget it. School just doesn t seem
important compared to anything else in my life. In every class I just sit and think of all the better
things I could be doing. Why do I have to be stuck here? I should just walk out. My life has just been
going downhill for the past few years. Who would want to write about that? Nonetheless have
somebody read it. A few minutes ago, my teacher asked why I didn t ... Show more content on

I m in the library so I m sure they won t care too much that I m reading instead of doing actual work.
Aside from music, skateboarding is the other half of my life. I ve probable written more stories about
it than music. I don t have an end goal in it, I just love it. It s fun weather I m progressing or not ;
chilling or trying some banger. But just as music goes, it takes up so much time. It s always one of the
two. Thinking of guitar riffs in math, thinking of some handrail to grind in Physics. The skatepark is
right near the school too. Every period I walk past a door and consider going for it. I m actually
getting kind of good too. It s torture, I just picture the progression I could be making. Landing new
tricks, stacking some decent clips, it s awesome. Not to mention all the hemies. They hype it up and
then everything just turns into a party. I ve always wanted to go on a music/skate tour. One of my
bands would hop in a van and go touring playing shows. Along the way we d skate, hit spots and try
and make a short video edit. That would be the dream life... Sadly I m stuck in school. Not to mention
all the other things eating up my time. Although there s things I enjoy, there s things I m not fond of
like work. My job isn t the worst. The pay is fair, the people are kind. Although if I didn t need money
in life I wouldn t be wasting my time. Who would? Then there s any work my family gives me. They
don t usually give me work, but that s why I do it. Aside from that there s all the school work outside
of school. It seems some teachers are beginning to understand that we have lives to live and that no
one does homework. It s all just pointless busy work

Franklin Delano Roosevelt And The New York
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, NY on January 30, 1882. He grew up extremely
wealthy and homeschooled until he was fourteen. However, in 1896 he attended Groton School for
boys, a prestigious prep school. He graduated in 1900 and went on to study at Harvard where he
received a degree in only three years. He met his wife and fifth cousin Eleanor during this time and
they were married on March 17, 1905. After he got married he studied law at Columbia University of
Law and passed the bar exam in 1907. Following law school, he practiced law for 3 years before
deciding that it was boring and moved on to bigger and better things, such as politics. At age 28 he
was invited to run for the New York State Senate in 1910. He ran as ... Show more content on

during the year, receiving base pay and certain special pays when performing inactive duty and full
pay and allowances while on active duty or under mobilization orders or otherwise recalled to full
active duty. Two years later in 1914 he ran for the U.S. Senate seat for New York and lost due to lack
of support. He stayed where he was for a few years and in 1920 accepted the nomination of Vice
President to James M. Cox, who was defeated by Warren G. Harding, but FDR gained national
exposure. He contracted polio shortly after this and took a few years to recover believing that his
political career was over. However, he continued with encouragement from his wife. He helped Alfred
E. Smith win the election for governor of New York in 1922, and in 1924 was a strong supporter of
Smith against his cousin, Republican Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Roosevelt gave nominating
speeches for Smith at the 1924 and 1928 Democratic conventions; the speech at the 1924 election
marked a return to public life following his illness and in 1928 he was elected the governor of New
York, during which Roosevelt maintained contacts and mended fences with the Democratic Party,
although he had initially made his name as an opponent of New York City s Tammany Hall machine,
which typically controlled Democratic Party nominations and political patronage in Manhattan.

How The Film Industry Has A Huge Budget For The City Over...
PART 2 CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing Oscar Wilde, 1890
Again, my concern started with a personal experience. In 2014, I was working as an Experience
Designer for Universal Pictures NBC International Ltd. .
The film industry has a huge budget to spend on the building of visual artefacts. However, I was quite
shocked by the squandering of resources I witnessed. There was no care or awareness of sustainability.
Also, I expected designers and production to work much more closely together, which would have
prevented much waste in the first place. Yet, the film industry being as hierarchical as it is, production
never got back to me.
According to the London Data store,
London is already the third busiest city in filmmaking in the world, behind LA and New York. This
booming industry has brought £770m of investment to the city over the last four years.
8. London Datastore greater London authority (2015), [accessed 6 May 2016].
I have always been fascinated by transforming materials into something magical. Yet most of the time
my task was to transform the very cheapest materials into a luxuriously looking illusion.
Obviously as a designer one aims to make the best of available resources in the most efficient way.
But ever working quicker and faster and thus taking a toll on quality, made me feel uncomfortable. I
felt trapped in a Kleenex society (source?) a disposable product which we buy, use and throw

Red Cabbage Ph Indicator Lab
Science Essay:
Red Cabbage PH Indicator
Did you know that, instead having to buy expensive PH indicators, you can just use the juice from red
cabbages? In this experiment, I will see how red cabbage can go from side dish to science. My
hypothesis is that the color of red cabbage will change color based on a reaction with different
substances to indicate whether it is an acid or base. According to the page madsci.org, red cabbage
contains a pigment called anthocyanin. this pigment changes its structure and its reaction to light
depending on the acidity of its environment. For this experiment, I only needed a few typical
household items. This is a list of everything I used:
One small, red cabbage

Four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important that the liquid is allowed to cool to room temperature so that residual heat doesn t affect
the PH readings. Now I have a homemade PH Indicator!
Using an eyedropper, I added a few drops of the indicator into each of my substances and viewed the
color changes through the clear plastic cups. I used the chart below to determine each substances PH
level by matching its colour to the chart below. The lower the PH level the more acidic, so a violet red
color is highly acidic; whereas a yellow color is highly basic.
I tested a few of the most common substances used in daily life: milk, soda, lemon juice and bleach.
My results are the following: In my first test, I tried testing the PH level of milk. I first thought that
milk would be basic, but after dripping some of the cabbage mixture into it, I discovered that it was
light blue, which means that it was actually slightly acidic! After researching this, I found that this is
true because milk contains lactic acid, which is responsible for the sour flavor of sourdough breads.

The Importance Of Physical Fitness For College Athletes
Physical fitness is vital for many college athletes. Things like muscle strength, muscular endurance,
anaerobic, and aerobic power are crucial to success of the athlete s performance. The vital physical
fitness of the athletes is to increase training sessions before the season and during season. Some of
these training session that college athletes participate in can lead to an increase in stress on certain
muscles. These muscles weaken over time due to the athlete not giving a proper time to recover from
training and playing. The most common injury for athletes are knee injuries. Some of the most
common, but are not limited to, include ACL, MCL, patellofemoral pain, and strains. Knee braces are
the most common way of helping reduce knee pain and prevent any further damage to the joint.
Though helpful knee braces can sometimes be uncomfortable, are not always supportive enough, and
are bulky. Due to these inconveniences, many athletes are turning to other alternative like Kinesio tape
(K tape). Kinesio tape has been used for many years and has helped many famous athletes like Kerri
Walsh Jennings, James Harden with their pain. Now it is more common for athletes in high schools
and colleges to use Kinesio tape because of its effectiveness and easy application and removal.
Kinesio tape and knee braces have been under debate recently on which one would be more effective
to use during physical activity.
Some of the research supports that Kinesio tape has helps reduce pressure to

My Love Of Books And Language
My love of books and language began in an unexpected way. When I was eight years old, my sister
and I switched rooms, and I was given the larger one. In revenge, my sister convinced my parents to
use this room as the family library. At the time I was furious at the thought of books taking the place
of my doll collection and having to move my stuffed animals to the attic. But I soon grew accustomed
to falling asleep facing a wall of novels arranged in alphabetical order. And when I could not fall
asleep, I played a game that I loved. I would choose a title, say The Visit on the second shelf, at the
end of the D section, asking myself, what visit could be so important that an entire book would be
written about it? Then it dawned on me; my parents frequently said, Don t rest your elbows on the
table, you couldn t eat like that if the Queen of England was coming. This was the most important
visitor I could think of. Maybe this story took place out in the British countryside and she was riding
in her carriage, and decided to visit the family of a farmer. It might have been around tea time and
they were eating scones and strawberry jelly...slowly I would nod off to sleep amid my fantastic
adventures from Jude the Obscure to Zorba the Greek. Growing up, I began to read the works that
filled my room, I even learned that Far from the Madding Crowd was not really about a fugitive trying
to run away from a crowd of crazy people. I learned to love novels and poetry. It was

Comparison Of Blindness And The Maze Runner
Blindness For my reading for this trimester I chose to read Blindness. The book starts with a man
suddenly going blind at a traffic light. From there everyone who comes in contact with this man
becomes blind and then the people who become blind find that people they come in contact with also
become blind. I had several connections with this book. In this paper I will talk about my connections
with this book to other books I have read and this book to my life. Two books that this story reminded
me of were The Hunger Games series and the Maze runner series. One of the main reasons why I
thought of these books was because of the fact that they are trapped or contained in a place against
their will. A similarly between The Maze Runner and Blindness is that they have a reason why they
were put in these places in The Maze Runner they were put in the maze because of their intelligence.
In Blindness they were put in the asylum because of the fear of the blindness spreading. A second
reason is that in these stories it seems like the government or whoever was in charge was against the
people contained in these areas. In a way all the governments in these ... Show more content on

Kentucky s Role During The Civil War
Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the
beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having won its
freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems were
brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the
southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to southern
whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave owning republic
that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready to lose one of their
most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the leadership of Abraham
Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but vowed to prevent its
expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping to preserve the
individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of secession (Henretta,
2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when on December 20, 1860 a
unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between South Carolina and the other
states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly to the surrounding southern
states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the month. At a meeting of the seceding

Restitution As A Means Of Reconciling Offender
Restitution as a means of rehabilitating offenders tries to give the offenders a better understanding of
what they have done, and the effects they have caused due to their actions. Punishing them with jail
time does not seem to be enough to get offenders to understand the magnitude of their crime. If they
have the ability to pay back the victims it will give them a sense of accomplishment and will allow
them to feel as if they are doing good and correcting their mistakes. Restitution as a means of
reconciling offender and their victims give the ideology that if they fully paid the person they hurt that
they can both put their anger behind them and move on from what had happened. Restitution as a
means of punishing the offenders means that

Needless to say that to do business in the current globalized economy, business partners need to
communicate effectively in a given language. But communication requires much more than a solid
knowledge of a language. Becoming communicatively competent in a foreign or second language
implies more than being able to speak fluently and accurately. Being communicatively competent in a
language requires having not only good linguistic knowledge but also knowledge of the culture that is
beneath that language, the culture that this particular language reflects. When doing business in a
global context, the ability to communicate cross culturally is a must for the success of any enterprise.
Electronic Communications Ltd. (ECL) had decided to start business in China and to form a

Post Conquest Mexico Essay
In 1521, the fall of Tenochtitlan proved to be an integral piece in the Spanish conquest of Mexico.
After months of devastating warfare between the Aztecs and the Spanish as well as the infection of
smallpox into the Aztec population, the Spanish conquered New Spain (Mexico) as their own,
resulting in the Spanish occupation and rebuilding of Tenochtitlan. The reshaping of the city was an
arduous and complex feat to say the least, as Hernan Cortés faced many challenges following the
satisfying victory of the conquest. In order to determine these various challenges involved in post
conquest Mexico, one must assess the various feats Cortés struggled through as well as Carlos I s
attempts to deal with the chaos in Mexico. The most decisive endeavours that the Spaniards faced
included: fixing a city of ruins, incorporating the indigenous peoples into society, and creating a
Christian basis throughout the land. Thus, post conquest Mexico faced a magnitude of challenges

Single Shot Essay
A single shot. A single shot is all it takes to freeze time, and create a standstill that will last for
generations. A single shot can transport people to a point in time, to let them remember an occasion
that they may have otherwise forgotten; not because it is unimportant, but rather in the scheme of life
sometimes the small moments may go unnoticed. The brain continues to amaze people day by day the
fact that an object so easily created, and so easily destroyed. It can resurface every emotion that was
present in that moment: in the ice age of time. By looking at photography s emotional impact, one can
see the effect on people s perspective on life and the world; this is important because it brings
attention to the exclusivity of pictures, image use in news events, and the personal memoirs that they
create. A picture cannot be measured in words, money, or tangible objects, it is a priceless piece of a
person s history. Nothing in the world compares to a photograph, an authentic view into the past that is
only accessible through the lens of a camera. Drawings and paintings are tweaked by an artist s bias
on how they remember a moment, videos take away interpretation, which can keep people from
thinking, and cause them to only focus on watching. Snapshots are the only representation that exist in
the world that isolate a moment in time and let the mind wander back to the time when it took place.
Scott Momaday expresses that, Photography, at its best, is authentic art, an

Analysis Of Xxxtentacion s Song Everybody Dies In Their...
Music is a form of art that affects everyone in one way or another. Music is a piece of art that fully
reflects the artist s feelings or lifelong experiences. Art affects everyone emotionally and everyone can
relate to music because the lyrics are meaningful in every way just like a story. For example,
XXXTentacion s music reflects his feelings and his emotional struggles and how he had problems
with suicide and clinical depression. I relate to one of his songs, Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares
.
In this song, he talks about how he is trapped in his mind. The line Tired of feeling like I am trapped
in my damn mind demonstrates this very clearly. By this, he means that he is stuck feeling the same
emotions, is depressed and not able to change. I relate to this line from the song because I have dealt
with a lot of emotional issues related to my childhood. This song is a reminder of my past issues and
helps to remind myself that life is worth living and that all my efforts were worth it. XXXTentacion

the way until my ninth grade year due to my anxiety that I still have trouble with often. Tired of

Bus 670 Week 3 Individual Assignment Elements Of A Contract
BUS 670 Week 3 Individual Assignment Elements of a Contract A contract of employment is a type of
a contract used in labor law to attribute rights and responsibilities between parties to a contract (Blum,
2007). On the one end stands an employee who is employed by an employer . A written employment
contract is a document that someone and their employee sign which sets forth the terms and conditions
of the employment relationship (Tepper, 2011). Many rules, exceptions and considerations apply when
dealing with employment contracts. Suppose that the Fabulous Hotel hires you as head chef under a
two year employment contract. After two years, another hotel wants to hire you. However, in the
original employment contract you signed with the fabulous Hotel, the following paragraph appears:
The below signed agrees not to work as a chef for another hotel in the same metropolitan area for a
period of two years after leaving our employ. First, it is crucial to know and understand which law
governs the employment contract. According to Seaquist, contract law is governed by the common
law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) (Seaquist, 2012). If the contract handles the sales of
goods, it is governed by the UCC (Seaquist, 2012). If the contract handles anything besides the sale of
goods (such as real estate, insurance, personal services like employment, etc.) then it is governed by
the common law (Seaquist, 2012). When a business or employer hires an employee to join the staff,

Mark s Great Commission Research Paper
Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as well as
the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of
Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a
commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is
the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s
gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world.
On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching every creature. The
differences discovered between the two gospels are not contradictory, but rather, they complement
each other and give added insight to the church. George Peters maps out Mark s Gospel in three
categories
Mark s Methodology of Mission
Method of Mission Preaching
The Missions Focus The World
The Message of Mission The Gospel of Jesus Christ

One Foreshadowing is a way that the author will give hints and innuendos as to what will happen in
the story. Boyles opening sentence: There was a time when courtesy and winning ways went out of
style, when it was good to be bad, when you cultivated decadence like a taste. We were all dangerous
characters then (Bolye 261) is the perfect example to suggest that bad behavior is brewing in the boys.
The constant use of bad character throughout the story does more than just hint that wrongful acts are
about to occur. Later on the narrator explains The first two nights we d been out till dawn, looking for
something we never found...There was nothing to do but take a bottle of lemon flavored gin up to
Greasy Lake (Boyle 262) foreshadows their finding of this something . They were out so late looking
for trouble when trouble found them. Two Many times in stories authors will use symbolism by taking
object representing another, to give an entirely different meaning that is much deeper and more
significant. Boyle uses Greasy Lake as symbolism. The lake itself is a bad place. The water is murky
and the banks are covered in broken glass and littered with beer cans. It is obvious that tea parties will
not be thrown here. This is the kind of place rough people hang out in. Although all of the beer
drinking and pot smoking cannot compare to the horror of the discovery of a dead body. The narrator
was in the lake fleeing from the scene and bumped into a mass

Breast Lift
Every woman who resides in Manhattan wants to look her best. One area of the body that many
women would like to rejuvenate and enhance is their breasts: Board certified, plastic and
reconstructive surgeon Dr. Nina S. Naidu performs breast enhancement procedures to provide women
residing in and around NYC them with the youthful looking, voluptuous breasts they desire.
A Breast Lift
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that is specifically designed to address pendulous breasts and large
nipple areola complexes. During a breast lift, Dr. Naidu reshapes the breast tissue and removes any
excess breast skin. She then elevates the breasts and moves the nipple areola complexes to a higher
position on the breasts: This provides the patient with more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

You may need to discontinue taking certain medications prior to surgery. If you smoke, you will need
to stop smoking for at least eight weeks before and after your breast lift with augmentation. You may
be required to have pre surgical testing (a mammogram, blood work, etc.) or visit your family
physician to attain a preoperative clearance.
A Breast Lift with Augmentation in Manhattan: The Surgical Procedure
For your safety, on the night before your breast augmentation with a lift, you must avoid eating or
drinking after midnight: This short fast ensures that you do not have anything in your stomach prior to
your surgery.
A breast augmentation with a lift usually takes about three hours to complete. Dr. Naidu performs her
surgical procedures in a NYC hospital or ambulatory surgery center.
Patients do receive general anesthesia during their breast lift with augmentation. Since this is an
outpatient procedure and patients receive anesthesia, transportation to and from the surgery center
must be arranged prior to the day of surgery. In addition, Dr. Naidu likes her patients to have someone
remain with them for at least the night following their breast lift with augmentation.
Marking the Breasts
Dr. Naidu will visit you in pre op to mark your breasts. She will also answer any questions you have
about your surgery and/or

as Christian bible which is all written by the people. It used vocabulary and images to express its

Adjacent to each medallion is a text excerpt, a summary of a passage of the passage or a concise

Aristotle s Rhetoric And The Three Different Formations...
Rorty (1996) states, The proper aim of the rhetoric is that of finding the best available means of
persuasion, whatever the subject me be (1355a4 ff., 1355b26 ff.) (p. 1). This is exactly what Aristotle
does through the use of the rhetoric and the three different formations of the theory he created.
Aristotle was very adamant on the use of rhetoric when addressing an audience. Rorty (1996) claims
that Aristotle chides the authors of earlier handbooks on rhetoric for concentrating primarily on
techniques for swaying the emotions of judges and legislators, instead of first and primarily
considering the best modes of persuasion (p. 2). The use of persuasion was deemed more important to
Aristotle than trying to change ones emotions instead. Also stated The best orator does not manipulate
beliefs in order to make the worse appear to be the better course, but rather presents the best case in a
way that is comprehensible and moving to each type of character (1113a3o ff.) (Rorty, 1996, p. 2). The
speaker should not take the audience as a whole and degrade the topic they are speaking about to try to
change the perspective of the people in the audience. Aristotle would rather the speaker make the most
intellectual argument available to try and change the opinions of each individual.
A study was done using the rhetoric in advertisement today. The study was done to investigate how
rhetoric values can be found within a few controversial ad settings. This jest of this study is to

The Marriage Roles Of Elmer And Lavera Enacted
For Carolyn, the combination of faith and equality started in her earliest memories. In Chicago, the
family attended a Mennonite church that was intentionally interracial (Huffman). The church has both
white and black pastors and a strongly diverse congregation. As mentioned before, early experiences
with racial equality also colored Carolyn s thoughts on gender equality. Though heavily exposed to
issues of racial equality at that age, gender equality was still far off. We grew up with the idea that the
man was the head of the household. That would have just been accepted in our family, in our church,
in our relatives...that s just how it was (Huffman). The marriage roles Elmer and LaVera enacted came
not only from cultural norms, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But I think that s also, in some ways, been the hardest part. Because it moves so slowly. ...If there ever
would have been anything that would have made me not be a Christian, or give up my faith, it would
have been [gender issues] because so many people made it seem like you couldn t be a strong woman
or a woman that believed that you had equal voice, equal whatever if you were a Christian. They
would pull these ugly verses out of the Bible and tell you them. It took me a long time to kind of
figure out why or maybe to justify my position, I m not sure which why I think what I think. Again, I
think it s related to racial issues for me and gender issues. I really believe with all my heart, from
everything that Jesus says in the Bible, that Jesus thinks we re all alike. He says over and over again
things about caring for the widows and the poor and the lepers and the downtrodden and the outcasts. I
just think that message of respect and equality and inclusiveness and love for all is there. To me, it s
one of the central things about what it means to be a Christian. That love and acceptance for
everybody....It s also why, at this point, I feel the same way about homosexuality. Because, to me, that
s part of that. Yep, Jesus would accept us all. (Huffman)
Though change comes slowly for religious factions, change has come. Today, the Mennonite faith has
female pastors, including one of Carolyn s sisters, women in leadership, and does not

Why Minnie Wright Killed Mr. Wright
3. The theme that I see in the freewriting is the story that the lonesome house tells the women,
especially Mrs. Hale. The men are looking for evidence, but the women see, feel and hear in the
silence. Murder has not been the experience of Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, but they understand the
emotions, the heart and the anger of Mrs. Wright. Minnie was silent for so long, she exploded in anger
at the end. 4. The stillness of the lonesome Wright home clearly tells the story of why Minnie Wright

Infrastructure Of Infrastructure And Infrastructure
Infrastructure
We are constantly surrounded by infrastructure assets. Infrastructure consists of all the assets that
countries require to enable its daily operations and orderly functions. Transportation, energy,
communications and water, are some of the infrastructure assets that serve as the backbone to our
society. While traveling this summer with my family, I realized just how far behind the U.S. is
compared to other parts of the world when it is considered one of the most advanced countries in the
world. I thought to myself... Why hasn t the U.S. invested in such projects? China spends 7% of its
GDP on infrastructure and India spends 5%. The U.S. spends just over 3%. As a result, U.S.
infrastructure now ranks 14th globally according to the World Economic Forum s infrastructure index.
In the current economic environment where interest rates are low and unemployment remains
elevated, a logical solution to stimulate growth would be to build, modernize, or replace our
infrastructure. Every 4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) releases a Report Card
for America s Infrastructure that represents the condition and performance of the nation s
infrastructure. In 2013, the United States infrastructure grade was a D+. Although we recognize the
report is a little self serving, the statistics behind their research is compelling. According to the report:
the average age of the 84,000 dams in the country is 52 years old, one in nine of the nation s bridges

Taking a Look at Chinese Culture
Those traditions have passed on to my family and society. According to Jandt (2003), Confucian
philosophy, which believes in harmony in society through respect to age and social hierarchy, affects
Chinese strongly. Confucianism has various effects on Chinese communication. As a Chinese, we
value Filial Piety and belong to collectivism. I may not say what I really want to mean when I think it
would hurt others. Foreigners such as Americans may feel surprised that HongKongers pay attention
to family so much. If Americans are asked to take a gap year in which be travelling around and their
parents disagree, most of them won t cancel the trip. For me, I would give up the trip honestly and this
may be a main difference between our values towards family. I like the culture I grew up in and the
tradition my family has. Respecting elders is what should be appreciated. I would like my generation
to keep the culture too; however, we can learn the advantages of other cultures. Individualism allows
us to fulfill obligations to self and to be independent. HongKongers can take balance between two
cultures and get improvement for our own.
Chinese is in high context culture and foreigners usually feel confused when I communicate with
them. In communication of Chinese, many things are left unsaid. We let the culture explain so that few
words can communicate a complex message. Although it is effective to in group, there are difficulties
in the communication with foreigners. During the

The Success Of A College Student
President Obama was once quoted saying, By the end of this decade two in three job openings will
require some higher education. Two in three. And yet, we still live in a country where too many
Americans are priced out of the education they need. which is a pretty depressing statement to hear
from our commander in chief regarding the future of the people. America is known for being the land
of opportunity where typically the favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle
and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that higher education
after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is
clearly emphasis on getting a college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be
for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an institution, but cannot
because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too
expensive for a country that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans,
and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the proper role in society as a
student looking for a better future. Today s college students have to deal with a huge financial decision
at a very young age that leads to frustration and confusion which is caused by the inflating prices of
college tuition. As decades have passed, it is clear that the cost of college

Rick Warren in his book the purpose driven church was mandated to attempt to put in print the story

Non Profit Performing Arts And Development World
Imagine with me this as an audience member, you are sitting amidst 1,000 other patrons in a glorious
concert hall, awaiting the arrival of the orchestra maestro to give a downbeat to all the musicians. The
normal concert buzz is in the air along with the pleasant chatter amongst the affluent concertgoers.
While taking a swift glance through the program, you notice that it is entirely blank. No names, no
sponsors, not even the names of musicians to be found. Only the back page, bearing this statement:
Good luck doing it without us! This is a simple example of what happened to Orchestre National de
Lille, a French orchestra, when the musicians began taking advantage of those who were running it.
Having majored in music at the collegiate level and also having been a student council member for the
Penn State Center for the Performing Arts, I can fully understand the critical role of the sponsors and
the inner mechanisms that run these organizations. My motivation to fill this need within the non
profit performing arts and development world is exactly what is leading me to pursue a graduate
degree in arts administration from a nationally recognized university. I see myself being placed in
roles of management and advocacy in the non profit sector and I feel that the knowledge gained from
this internship would be a vital part of my growth in this field.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles ( Electric Vehicle )
Imagine a world in which the air we breathe is clean, the skies are blue, automobiles are sleek and
fast, and don t burn fossil fuels. That world could be coming. It s a world filled with clean running
electric vehicles. An EV (electric vehicle) is a vehicle that gets some or all of its power for propulsion
from the electric grid. These cars present one of the best alternatives to gas based vehicles as they are
environmentally friendly, and circumvent the distribution of harmful elements such as carbon
emissions into the atmosphere. Some of the manufactures for the EVs and their models include the
Nissan LEAF, the Mitsubishi iMiEV, and plug in hybrid electric vehicles (part gasoline, part electric
battery), such as the Chevrolet Volt or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1908 the electric car suffered a big blow. That year, Henry Ford introduced the mass produced
Model T. It made gasoline powered cars widely available and affordable. By 1912, the gasoline car
cost only $650, while an electric car sold for $1,750. By the 1920s, the U.S. had much better roads
connecting cities, which Americans were eager to explore. When crude oil was discovered in Texas,
gas became cheap and was easily available to rural Americans, while few had electricity. By 1935,
electric vehicles had all but disappeared (Energy.gov, 2014). Commercially available EVs hit the
market again in 2011 (Larson, P., Viáfara, J., Parsons, R., Elias, A., 2014). Environmental concerns
about air quality, growing concerns about global warming, and finite fossil fuel supplies prompted a
new emphasis on the production of more fuel efficient vehicles (Nayum, Klöckner., Mehmetoglu,
2016). These concerns led to the development of improvements in automobile materials, system
technologies, and the design of improved rechargeable battery systems that are smaller, lighter weight,
and have a longer lasting charge. Advances such as these have rapidly accelerated the design of better,
more reliable EVs (Coffman, Bernstein, Wee, 2016). Unfortunately, sales of these vehicles are not
progressing as quickly as had been hoped, some prominent reasons being that EV vehicles are still too
expensive, consumers continue to have range anxiety (the fear of

The Importance of Stress Management Essay
The Importance of Stress Management
Stress today can be described as that which disturbs a person s mental and physical well being
(Morrison 1). Common symptoms of stress include chronic fatigue, changes in appetite, drug and/or
alcohol abuse, difficulty sleeping, body aches, and changes in emotions (Cooper 1 2). And although
stress is something that is inevitable, it can be controlled. Just about everything we do today creates
stress, both good and bad. In the face paced and technological world we live in, stress management is
key to survival as well as sanity.
Stress can be caused from numerous things for example, a death in the family, divorce, or loss of a
job. But stress is also attributed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stress is not only affecting individuals, but also affects how are businesses function and how our
society operates (Morrison 1).
Stress can cause many things that affect a healthy body. Stress causes quick yet shallow breathing in
which case, the body s cells are being deprived of oxygen. Stress will increase cholesterol levels and
can also cause indigestion, heartburn, a decreased sex drive, and also arteriosclerosis (the hardening of
the arteries). While these symptoms may seem minimal, stress can decrease the activity of white blood
cells. Since the white blood cells fight off sicknesses and diseases, the immune system is affected by
stress and can make the body more susceptible to colds, viruses, flues, and diseases (Morrison 2).
Stress can affect all aspects of one s mind and body. Behaviorally, stress can cause anger, excessive
crying, depression, apprehension, increased alcohol use, mood swings, and even suicide. It can cause
problems physically as well. Anorexia, fatigue, trembling, loss of appetite, and headaches are just a
few of the symptoms that overly stressed individuals may experience (Morrison 2).
It is critical to understand important stress management skills. If stress is not dealt with, it can result in
a burnout, or perhaps worse, People who experience high levels of anxiety are four to five times more
likely to die of a heart attack or stroke (Morrison

Kevin Bobo
Hemispheres, by Kevin Bobo, is a piece written for percussion quintet which, as the title implies,
draws from several different cultures music. It borrows from the music of Indonesia, India, Cuba,
Spain, Japan, and parts of West Africa. In my preparation of this piece, learned quite a bit of the
influence that gamelan had on Bobo s writing of this work. Focusing on the Indonesian inspired
section of this work, Bobo chooses an instrumentation of western percussion instruments that he
thinks most exemplifies a traditional gamelan ensemble. He also composed a melody and
accompaniment that created an atmosphere and feeling similar to that of Indonesian gamelan. With the
goal of having each section connect to one another with a common theme while still having each
represent a different are of the world, Kevin Bobo wrote a piece that makes world music more

Theology of the Body
Pope John Paul II s Theology of the Body
A Cliff Notes Version
Introduction
A. The Theology of the Body is the term used to describe the teaching of Pope John Paul about the
human person and human sexuality given during his Wednesday Catecheses in St. Peter s Square
between September 5, 1979 and November 28, 1984. John Paul II says that these catecheses could be
called Human Love in the Divine Plan or The Redemption of the Body and the Sacramentality of
Marriage.
B. Various scholars, in different language groupings, will generally break the theology of the body
found in these 129 catecheses down into four main sections, others six. I think the most logical way to
do so is to break it down into seven interrelated sections:
1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This redemption of the body, which agrees with our experience, opens the way for the proper theology
of the body.
B. Man s original solitude
1) God said: It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him (Gen 2:18).
This man refers to the human person, and not just to the male.
2) God had put man through a test in naming all of creation, which in addition to revealing to man his
freedom, allowed him to become aware of his difference from the rest of creation. He was also not
God. Man is conscious that he belongs to the visible world as a body among different bodies, but he
was self consciously in search of his identity and felt alone (another sign of self knowledge), because
he was different from the rest of creation and from God. This indicates man s original subjectivity.
3) God s command concerning the tree of the knowledge of good and evil provides man the moment
of choice and self determination, of free will.
4) God s command to fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion (Gen 1:28) by tilling the earth
shows that man s capacity to dominate the earth lies within himself, transforming it to his own needs.
C. The original unity of man and woman
1) The meaning of original solitude (man Adam) is substantially prior to the meaning of original unity
(male female).
2) The analogy of Adam s falling

Practical Skills Assessment
Students are measured constantly regarding their retention ability while in the classroom. Most of the
time, the measurement tool is a written exam, an oral report, or a presentation. Although these are
ways for a student to prove they have achieved mastery of the information, these tools are not
considered reliable To be considered a reliable assessment tool, there needs to be consistency. The
same exam given to the same student a second time should show the same result. Therefore, the exam
is able to confirm the aimed measurement of degree that the student has shown in mastering the
material. As in bowling, a bowler who has mastered the skills will have a consistent average each

  • 3. Skateboarding Memoir Another memoir? It feels like the teachers in every grade meet and come up with the same assignments. It s pointless. At least it s like a free period. It s why I sat in the back. I can be fully secluded and do what I want, even though it s a large open library. Jam out, watch some videos, whatever. I won t do well on this paper or in this class, but forget it. School just doesn t seem important compared to anything else in my life. In every class I just sit and think of all the better things I could be doing. Why do I have to be stuck here? I should just walk out. My life has just been going downhill for the past few years. Who would want to write about that? Nonetheless have somebody read it. A few minutes ago, my teacher asked why I didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m in the library so I m sure they won t care too much that I m reading instead of doing actual work. Aside from music, skateboarding is the other half of my life. I ve probable written more stories about it than music. I don t have an end goal in it, I just love it. It s fun weather I m progressing or not ; chilling or trying some banger. But just as music goes, it takes up so much time. It s always one of the two. Thinking of guitar riffs in math, thinking of some handrail to grind in Physics. The skatepark is right near the school too. Every period I walk past a door and consider going for it. I m actually getting kind of good too. It s torture, I just picture the progression I could be making. Landing new tricks, stacking some decent clips, it s awesome. Not to mention all the hemies. They hype it up and then everything just turns into a party. I ve always wanted to go on a music/skate tour. One of my bands would hop in a van and go touring playing shows. Along the way we d skate, hit spots and try and make a short video edit. That would be the dream life... Sadly I m stuck in school. Not to mention all the other things eating up my time. Although there s things I enjoy, there s things I m not fond of like work. My job isn t the worst. The pay is fair, the people are kind. Although if I didn t need money in life I wouldn t be wasting my time. Who would? Then there s any work my family gives me. They don t usually give me work, but that s why I do it. Aside from that there s all the school work outside of school. It seems some teachers are beginning to understand that we have lives to live and that no one does homework. It s all just pointless busy work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Franklin Delano Roosevelt And The New York Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, NY on January 30, 1882. He grew up extremely wealthy and homeschooled until he was fourteen. However, in 1896 he attended Groton School for boys, a prestigious prep school. He graduated in 1900 and went on to study at Harvard where he received a degree in only three years. He met his wife and fifth cousin Eleanor during this time and they were married on March 17, 1905. After he got married he studied law at Columbia University of Law and passed the bar exam in 1907. Following law school, he practiced law for 3 years before deciding that it was boring and moved on to bigger and better things, such as politics. Naval Reserve which traditionally drilled one weekend a month and two weeks of annual training during the year, receiving base pay and certain special pays when performing inactive duty and full pay and allowances while on active duty or under mobilization orders or otherwise recalled to full active duty. Two years later in 1914 he ran for the U.S. Senate seat for New York and lost due to lack of support. He stayed where he was for a few years and in 1920 accepted the nomination of Vice President to James M. Cox, who was defeated by Warren G. Harding, but FDR gained national exposure. He contracted polio shortly after this and took a few years to recover believing that his political career was over. However, he continued with encouragement from his wife. He helped Alfred E. Smith win the election for governor of New York in 1922, and in 1924 was a strong supporter of Smith against his cousin, Republican Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Roosevelt gave nominating speeches for Smith at the 1924 and 1928 Democratic conventions; the speech at the 1924 election marked a return to public life following his illness and in 1928 he was elected the governor of New York, during which Roosevelt maintained contacts and mended fences with the Democratic Party, although he had initially made his name as an opponent of New York City s Tammany Hall machine, which typically controlled Democratic Party nominations and political patronage in Manhattan. • 5. How The Film Industry Has A Huge Budget For The City Over... PART 2 CIRCULAR ECONOMY Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing Oscar Wilde, 1890 Again, my concern started with a personal experience. In 2014, I was working as an Experience Designer for Universal Pictures NBC International Ltd. . The film industry has a huge budget to spend on the building of visual artefacts. However, I was quite shocked by the squandering of resources I witnessed. There was no care or awareness of sustainability. Also, I expected designers and production to work much more closely together, which would have prevented much waste in the first place. Yet, the film industry being as hierarchical as it is, production never got back to me. According to the London Data store, London is already the third busiest city in filmmaking in the world, behind LA and New York. This booming industry has brought £770m of investment to the city over the last four years. 8. London Datastore greater London authority (2015), [accessed 6 May 2016]. I have always been fascinated by transforming materials into something magical. Yet most of the time my task was to transform the very cheapest materials into a luxuriously looking illusion. Obviously as a designer one aims to make the best of available resources in the most efficient way. But ever working quicker and faster and thus taking a toll on quality, made me feel uncomfortable. I felt trapped in a Kleenex society (source?) a disposable product which we buy, use and throw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Red Cabbage Ph Indicator Lab Science Essay: Red Cabbage PH Indicator Did you know that, instead having to buy expensive PH indicators, you can just use the juice from red cabbages? In this experiment, I will see how red cabbage can go from side dish to science. My hypothesis is that the color of red cabbage will change color based on a reaction with different substances to indicate whether it is an acid or base. According to the page madsci.org, red cabbage contains a pigment called anthocyanin. this pigment changes its structure and its reaction to light depending on the acidity of its environment. For this experiment, I only needed a few typical household items. This is a list of everything I used: One small, red cabbage Cheese grater Boiling water Four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important that the liquid is allowed to cool to room temperature so that residual heat doesn t affect the PH readings. Now I have a homemade PH Indicator! Using an eyedropper, I added a few drops of the indicator into each of my substances and viewed the color changes through the clear plastic cups. I used the chart below to determine each substances PH level by matching its colour to the chart below. The lower the PH level the more acidic, so a violet red color is highly acidic; whereas a yellow color is highly basic. I tested a few of the most common substances used in daily life: milk, soda, lemon juice and bleach. My results are the following: In my first test, I tried testing the PH level of milk. I first thought that milk would be basic, but after dripping some of the cabbage mixture into it, I discovered that it was light blue, which means that it was actually slightly acidic! After researching this, I found that this is true because milk contains lactic acid, which is responsible for the sour flavor of sourdough breads. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of Physical Fitness For College Athletes Physical fitness is vital for many college athletes. Things like muscle strength, muscular endurance, anaerobic, and aerobic power are crucial to success of the athlete s performance. The vital physical fitness of the athletes is to increase training sessions before the season and during season. Some of these training session that college athletes participate in can lead to an increase in stress on certain muscles. These muscles weaken over time due to the athlete not giving a proper time to recover from training and playing. The most common injury for athletes are knee injuries. Some of the most common, but are not limited to, include ACL, MCL, patellofemoral pain, and strains. Knee braces are the most common way of helping reduce knee pain and prevent any further damage to the joint. Though helpful knee braces can sometimes be uncomfortable, are not always supportive enough, and are bulky. Due to these inconveniences, many athletes are turning to other alternative like Kinesio tape (K tape). Kinesio tape has been used for many years and has helped many famous athletes like Kerri Walsh Jennings, James Harden with their pain. Now it is more common for athletes in high schools and colleges to use Kinesio tape because of its effectiveness and easy application and removal. Kinesio tape and knee braces have been under debate recently on which one would be more effective to use during physical activity. Some of the research supports that Kinesio tape has helps reduce pressure to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Love Of Books And Language My love of books and language began in an unexpected way. When I was eight years old, my sister and I switched rooms, and I was given the larger one. In revenge, my sister convinced my parents to use this room as the family library. At the time I was furious at the thought of books taking the place of my doll collection and having to move my stuffed animals to the attic. But I soon grew accustomed to falling asleep facing a wall of novels arranged in alphabetical order. And when I could not fall asleep, I played a game that I loved. I would choose a title, say The Visit on the second shelf, at the end of the D section, asking myself, what visit could be so important that an entire book would be written about it? Then it dawned on me; my parents frequently said, Don t rest your elbows on the table, you couldn t eat like that if the Queen of England was coming. This was the most important visitor I could think of. Maybe this story took place out in the British countryside and she was riding in her carriage, and decided to visit the family of a farmer. It might have been around tea time and they were eating scones and strawberry jelly...slowly I would nod off to sleep amid my fantastic adventures from Jude the Obscure to Zorba the Greek. Growing up, I began to read the works that filled my room, I even learned that Far from the Madding Crowd was not really about a fugitive trying to run away from a crowd of crazy people. • 10. Comparison Of Blindness And The Maze Runner Blindness For my reading for this trimester I chose to read Blindness. The book starts with a man suddenly going blind at a traffic light. From there everyone who comes in contact with this man becomes blind and then the people who become blind find that people they come in contact with also become blind. I had several connections with this book. In this paper I will talk about my connections with this book to other books I have read and this book to my life. Two books that this story reminded me of were The Hunger Games series and the Maze runner series. One of the main reasons why I thought of these books was because of the fact that they are trapped or contained in a place against their will. A similarly between The Maze Runner and Blindness is that they have a reason why they were put in these places in The Maze Runner they were put in the maze because of their intelligence. In Blindness they were put in the asylum because of the fear of the blindness spreading. A second reason is that in these stories it seems like the government or whoever was in charge was against the people contained in these areas. In a way all the governments in these ... Why the doctor s wife never goes blind we don t know. I just don t understand how just about the whole world goes blind but she somehow doesn t. • 11. Kentucky s Role During The Civil War Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having won its freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems were brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to southern whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave owning republic that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready to lose one of their most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but vowed to prevent its expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping to preserve the individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of secession (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when on December 20, 1860 a unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between South Carolina and the other states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly to the surrounding southern states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the month. At a meeting of the seceding ... But communication requires much more than a solid knowledge of a language. Becoming communicatively competent in a foreign or second language implies more than being able to speak fluently and accurately. Being communicatively competent in a language requires having not only good linguistic knowledge but also knowledge of the culture that is beneath that language, the culture that this particular language reflects. When doing business in a global context, the ability to communicate cross culturally is a must for the success of any enterprise. Electronic Communications Ltd. After months of devastating warfare between the Aztecs and the Spanish as well as the infection of smallpox into the Aztec population, the Spanish conquered New Spain (Mexico) as their own, resulting in the Spanish occupation and rebuilding of Tenochtitlan. The reshaping of the city was an arduous and complex feat to say the least, as Hernan Cortés faced many challenges following the satisfying victory of the conquest. In order to determine these various challenges involved in post conquest Mexico, one must assess the various feats Cortés struggled through as well as Carlos I s attempts to deal with the chaos in Mexico. The most decisive endeavours that the Spaniards faced included: fixing a city of ruins, incorporating the indigenous peoples into society, and creating a Christian basis throughout the land. Thus, post conquest Mexico faced a magnitude of challenges based on the socio political, religious, and economic values necessary to conceive their perfect image ... Overall, the chaos and lack of order among the initial framework of New Spain was easily overcome as the communal effort of the Spaniards led to the creation of their empire through rebuilding a city from ruins after the conquests. • 16. Single Shot Essay A single shot. A single shot is all it takes to freeze time, and create a standstill that will last for generations. A single shot can transport people to a point in time, to let them remember an occasion that they may have otherwise forgotten; not because it is unimportant, but rather in the scheme of life sometimes the small moments may go unnoticed. The brain continues to amaze people day by day the fact that an object so easily created, and so easily destroyed. It can resurface every emotion that was present in that moment: in the ice age of time. By looking at photography s emotional impact, one can see the effect on people s perspective on life and the world; this is important because it brings attention to the exclusivity of pictures, image use in news events, and the personal memoirs that they create. A picture cannot be measured in words, money, or tangible objects, it is a priceless piece of a person s history. Nothing in the world compares to a photograph, an authentic view into the past that is only accessible through the lens of a camera. Drawings and paintings are tweaked by an artist s bias on how they remember a moment, videos take away interpretation, which can keep people from thinking, and cause them to only focus on watching. Snapshots are the only representation that exist in the world that isolate a moment in time and let the mind wander back to the time when it took place. Music is a piece of art that fully reflects the artist s feelings or lifelong experiences. Art affects everyone emotionally and everyone can relate to music because the lyrics are meaningful in every way just like a story. For example, XXXTentacion s music reflects his feelings and his emotional struggles and how he had problems with suicide and clinical depression. I relate to one of his songs, Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares . In this song, he talks about how he is trapped in his mind. The line Tired of feeling like I am trapped in my damn mind demonstrates this very clearly. By this, he means that he is stuck feeling the same emotions, is depressed and not able to change. I relate to this line from the song because I have dealt with a lot of emotional issues related to my childhood. This song is a reminder of my past issues and helps to remind myself that life is worth living and that all my efforts were worth it. On the one end stands an employee who is employed by an employer . A written employment contract is a document that someone and their employee sign which sets forth the terms and conditions of the employment relationship (Tepper, 2011). Many rules, exceptions and considerations apply when dealing with employment contracts. Suppose that the Fabulous Hotel hires you as head chef under a two year employment contract. After two years, another hotel wants to hire you. However, in the original employment contract you signed with the fabulous Hotel, the following paragraph appears: The below signed agrees not to work as a chef for another hotel in the same metropolitan area for a period of two years after leaving our employ. First, it is crucial to know and understand which law governs the employment contract. According to Seaquist, contract law is governed by the common law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) (Seaquist, 2012). If the contract handles the sales of goods, it is governed by the UCC (Seaquist, 2012). If the contract handles anything besides the sale of goods (such as real estate, insurance, personal services like employment, etc.) then it is governed by the common law (Seaquist, 2012). Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world. On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching every creature. • 23. Aristotle s Rhetoric And The Three Different Formations... Rorty (1996) states, The proper aim of the rhetoric is that of finding the best available means of persuasion, whatever the subject me be (1355a4 ff., 1355b26 ff.) (p. 1). This is exactly what Aristotle does through the use of the rhetoric and the three different formations of the theory he created. Aristotle was very adamant on the use of rhetoric when addressing an audience. Rorty (1996) claims that Aristotle chides the authors of earlier handbooks on rhetoric for concentrating primarily on techniques for swaying the emotions of judges and legislators, instead of first and primarily considering the best modes of persuasion (p. 2). The use of persuasion was deemed more important to Aristotle than trying to change ones emotions instead. Also stated The best orator does not manipulate beliefs in order to make the worse appear to be the better course, but rather presents the best case in a way that is comprehensible and moving to each type of character (1113a3o ff.) (Rorty, 1996, p. 2). The speaker should not take the audience as a whole and degrade the topic they are speaking about to try to change the perspective of the people in the audience. Aristotle would rather the speaker make the most intellectual argument available to try and change the opinions of each individual. A study was done using the rhetoric in advertisement today. • 24. The Marriage Roles Of Elmer And Lavera Enacted For Carolyn, the combination of faith and equality started in her earliest memories. In Chicago, the family attended a Mennonite church that was intentionally interracial (Huffman). The church has both white and black pastors and a strongly diverse congregation. As mentioned before, early experiences with racial equality also colored Carolyn s thoughts on gender equality. Though heavily exposed to issues of racial equality at that age, gender equality was still far off. We grew up with the idea that the man was the head of the household. They would pull these ugly verses out of the Bible and tell you them. It took me a long time to kind of figure out why or maybe to justify my position, I m not sure which why I think what I think. Again, I think it s related to racial issues for me and gender issues. I really believe with all my heart, from everything that Jesus says in the Bible, that Jesus thinks we re all alike. He says over and over again things about caring for the widows and the poor and the lepers and the downtrodden and the outcasts. I just think that message of respect and equality and inclusiveness and love for all is there. To me, it s one of the central things about what it means to be a Christian. Infrastructure consists of all the assets that countries require to enable its daily operations and orderly functions. Transportation, energy, communications and water, are some of the infrastructure assets that serve as the backbone to our society. While traveling this summer with my family, I realized just how far behind the U.S. is compared to other parts of the world when it is considered one of the most advanced countries in the world. I thought to myself... Why hasn t the U.S. invested in such projects? China spends 7% of its GDP on infrastructure and India spends 5%. The U.S. spends just over 3%. As a result, U.S. infrastructure now ranks 14th globally according to the World Economic Forum s infrastructure index. In the current economic environment where interest rates are low and unemployment remains elevated, a logical solution to stimulate growth would be to build, modernize, or replace our infrastructure. Every 4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) releases a Report Card for America s Infrastructure that represents the condition and performance of the nation s infrastructure. In 2013, the United States infrastructure grade was a D+. Although we recognize the report is a little self serving, the statistics behind their research is compelling. Respecting elders is what should be appreciated. I would like my generation to keep the culture too; however, we can learn the advantages of other cultures. Individualism allows us to fulfill obligations to self and to be independent. HongKongers can take balance between two cultures and get improvement for our own. America is known for being the land of opportunity where typically the favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that higher education after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is clearly emphasis on getting a college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an institution, but cannot because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too expensive for a country that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans, and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the proper role in society as a student looking for a better future. It made gasoline powered cars widely available and affordable. By 1912, the gasoline car cost only $650, while an electric car sold for $1,750. By the 1920s, the U.S. had much better roads connecting cities, which Americans were eager to explore. When crude oil was discovered in Texas, gas became cheap and was easily available to rural Americans, while few had electricity. By 1935, electric vehicles had all but disappeared (Energy.gov, 2014). Commercially available EVs hit the market again in 2011 (Larson, P., Viáfara, J., Parsons, R., Elias, A., 2014). Environmental concerns about air quality, growing concerns about global warming, and finite fossil fuel supplies prompted a new emphasis on the production of more fuel efficient vehicles (Nayum, Klöckner., Mehmetoglu, 2016). These concerns led to the development of improvements in automobile materials, system technologies, and the design of improved rechargeable battery systems that are smaller, lighter weight, and have a longer lasting charge. Advances such as these have rapidly accelerated the design of better, more reliable EVs (Coffman, Bernstein, Wee, 2016). Unfortunately, sales of these vehicles are not progressing as quickly as had been hoped, some prominent reasons being that EV vehicles are still too expensive, consumers continue to have range anxiety (the fear of ... Since the white blood cells fight off sicknesses and diseases, the immune system is affected by stress and can make the body more susceptible to colds, viruses, flues, and diseases (Morrison 2). Stress can affect all aspects of one s mind and body. Behaviorally, stress can cause anger, excessive crying, depression, apprehension, increased alcohol use, mood swings, and even suicide. It can cause problems physically as well. Anorexia, fatigue, trembling, loss of appetite, and headaches are just a few of the symptoms that overly stressed individuals may experience (Morrison 2). It is critical to understand important stress management skills. If stress is not dealt with, it can result in a burnout, or perhaps worse, People who experience high levels of anxiety are four to five times more likely to die of a heart attack or stroke (Morrison ... • 36. Kevin Bobo Hemispheres, by Kevin Bobo, is a piece written for percussion quintet which, as the title implies, draws from several different cultures music. It borrows from the music of Indonesia, India, Cuba, Spain, Japan, and parts of West Africa. In my preparation of this piece, learned quite a bit of the influence that gamelan had on Bobo s writing of this work. Focusing on the Indonesian inspired section of this work, Bobo chooses an instrumentation of western percussion instruments that he thinks most exemplifies a traditional gamelan ensemble. He also composed a melody and accompaniment that created an atmosphere and feeling similar to that of Indonesian gamelan. With the goal of having each section connect to one another with a common theme while still having each represent a different are of the world, Kevin Bobo wrote a piece that makes world music more accessible to the average listener. Gamelan has a lot of defining facets that make it unique from many other genres of global music. It has spiritual and religious implications and is also played in many state and government ceremonies. Gamelan has become a very large part of Indonesian culture and has even been presented as a gift to the government on occasion. Being that many can participate at once, gamelan connects its players to each other through their shared musical experience. With the tuning creating a shimmering effect, the music is very alive and even has a sense of breathing amongst the instruments. Bobo implemented several of these factors into a section of his own piece and, by doing so, he has made it more accessible and easier to play gamelan in a traditional western ... • 37. Theology of the Body Pope John Paul II s Theology of the Body A Cliff Notes Version Introduction A. The Theology of the Body is the term used to describe the teaching of Pope John Paul about the human person and human sexuality given during his Wednesday Catecheses in St. Peter s Square between September 5, 1979 and November 28, 1984. John Paul II says that these catecheses could be called Human Love in the Divine Plan or The Redemption of the Body and the Sacramentality of Marriage. B. Various scholars, in different language groupings, will generally break the theology of the body found in these 129 catecheses down into four main sections, others six. I think the most logical way to do so is to break it down into seven interrelated sections: 1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This redemption of the body, which agrees with our experience, opens the way for the proper theology of the body. B. Man s original solitude 1) God said: It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him (Gen 2:18). This man refers to the human person, and not just to the male. 2) God had put man through a test in naming all of creation, which in addition to revealing to man his freedom, allowed him to become aware of his difference from the rest of creation. He was also not God. Man is conscious that he belongs to the visible world as a body among different bodies, but he was self consciously in search of his identity and felt alone (another sign of self knowledge), because he was different from the rest of creation and from God. This indicates man s original subjectivity. 3) God s command concerning the tree of the knowledge of good and evil provides man the moment of choice and self determination, of free will. 4) God s command to fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion (Gen 1:28) by tilling the earth shows that man s capacity to dominate the earth lies within himself, transforming it to his own needs. C. The original unity of man and woman 1) The meaning of original solitude (man Adam) is substantially prior to the meaning of original unity (male female). 2) The analogy of Adam s falling ... • 38. Practical Skills Assessment Students are measured constantly regarding their retention ability while in the classroom. Most of the time, the measurement tool is a written exam, an oral report, or a presentation. Although these are ways for a student to prove they have achieved mastery of the information, these tools are not considered reliable To be considered a reliable assessment tool, there needs to be consistency. The same exam given to the same student a second time should show the same result. Therefore, the exam is able to confirm the aimed measurement of degree that the student has shown in mastering the material. As in bowling, a bowler who has mastered the skills will have a consistent average each game, with the allotment of variation due to extraneous factors not associated with the bowlers mastery, such as lane conditions or faulty pins. This is why during the practical skills exams, the evaluators must be given clear directions and behavior anchors, as in the behavior the evaluator is requiring the student to show on a rated scale. Evaluators need to understand that although the skill was not done possibly the way the evaluator would do it, but if the ultimate goal was reach, the skill was successful.
