The Effects Of Radiation On Public Health
The Effects of Radiation in the Environment on Public Health
Introduction
Radiation in the environment is widespread and a necessary process for the existence of life. We
encounter it from natural sources like the sun or from modern technology such as computed
tomography better known as CT scan, and nuclear power plants. Radiation from sunlight is
essential but too much of it can be harmful, just as the use of radiation in CT scans. Computed
tomography can provide lifesaving information about disease but can also cause disease.
One of the topics that every so often pops up in the news is radioactive waste management and
protecting the public against the hazards of radioactive waste from power plants and other
facilities that produce radioactive waste. People want to know where is this waste disposed and/or
stored and who has access this material. Many of the concerns center around the dangers of
radioactive leaks and exposure; consequently, most people do not want this material in their
neighborhood. Another concern is the use of waste material as nuclear weapons by terrorists.
The disposal and managing of radioactive waste is extremely complicated, not only because of the
dangers hazardous waste poses, but also because of the strict compliance the management of this
waste must undergo. If radioactive hazardous waste is compliant with the regulations of all the
governing federal agencies, it does not pose an environmental public health risk.

The purpose of exams is to determine your current level of course knowledge. Exams are not
devised to reward hard work or effort, though hard work and effort generally contribute to greater
course knowledge and, thus, better exam grades.
Participation 5% of your final grade Participation will be based on a random day I choose to take
attendance and involvement in class. I may include attitude and personal interest in the course and
course materials, and partaking in optional voluntary essay assignments given throughout the
semester as part of the participation 5%. It looks like this: 1% attendance and 4% optional essay or
voluntary participation during class. Many students opt for the essay credit in which case I will
expect APA style with appropriate university studentquality with proper grammar and spelling. I
will also provide a CIVILITY bonus for showing respect in abstaining from inappropriate internet
use during lectures.
Missing an Exam: Make up exams will be provided only for serious medical or compassionate
situations (i.e., the death of a loved one) that have been approved by the Student Advisor (Amy

The Nissan Rogue
Car manufacturers sometimes choose odd names for their vehicles. Most such names, including
the Mazda Bongo and the Mitsubishi Pistachio, never make it to the US as marketers wisely
intervene and demand changes. The Nissan Rogue has one of those names that slipped through
the cracks, although it is doubtful whether the true meaning of the word is known by many. Of
rogue Merriam Webster describes as, a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel. The second
dictionary definition may be more in line with what Nissan was thinking, a playfully
mischievous person; scamp. Naming choice aside, the Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover
sport utility vehicle, just one of several models this Japanese brand sells in North America. The
Juke is the smallest of the lot, followed by the Rogue, Murano and Pathfinder. The Xterra a
midsize traditional body on frame SUV was retired at the end of 2015. That leaves the Armada
at the top of the SUV pecking order in the Nissan range. 2015 Nissan Rogue A 2015 Nissan
Rogue SV FWD edition was a recent weekly test vehicle, a five passenger SUV with an optional
third row seat. That two person seat is part of a $940 SV Family Package, one that curiously
includes run flat tires. From the get go I ll say this: if you really need room for seven, you re
looking at the wrong vehicle: the Nissan Pathfinder SUV (please read my review here) or the
Nissan Quest minivan are better suited for the job. Otherwise stick with two rows the third row is

The Third Bank Of The River By Roger Rosenblatt
Journey means to travel, to start at one point and move on to another. It was clearly
demonstrated in The Children of Cambodia, an essay by Roger Rosenblatt. It takes place in
1983 where he interviewed Cambodia children after the reign of Pol Pot. Pol Pot was the leader
of Cambodia during the 1970s and he led 1.5 million Cambodians into death of starvation,
execution, or being overworked. In another topic of journey, The Third Bank of the River, written
by J.G. Rosa, is about a father who abandons his familyby traveling away on a canoe for years
without reason. Finally, Cathedral is a story written by Ray Carver in which a judgmental man lets
his wife s blind friend spend the night at their house and things turn out unexpectedly. The main
resolution these three pieces of writing have in common is that at least one character undergoes a
journey. In deeper detail, journey can be from realizing things about life or oneself, aging from
adolescence into adulthood, or moving on. These three stories portray journey in different ways.
In The Third Bank of the River, journey is shown by the family. The importance of the father going
into complete isolation represents the effects he has on his peers. There is an opposite effect from
this story because the father s abandonment left a prominent mark on the family and their future.
From an outside perspective, some may assume that the father would be the one who s miserable
and empty, yet this story carries out the reverse

The Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities In School
One of the parents greatest achievements and immediate responsibility is to sent their children
toschool but sending them to school doesn t only mean to make them accademically active but also
tomake them socially active by joining and participating on ectra curricular activities. Participating
onextra curricular activities contributes a lot and helps the child molds their social being. From
preparatory to elementary to high schooland even to college, school doesn t only for
academicenhancements and purposes, it always includes extra curricular activities.Students who
participate in extracurricular activities generally benefit from the many opportunitiesafforded them.
Benefits of participating in extracurricular activities included having better grades, having higher
standardized test scores and higher educational attainment, attending school moreregularly, and
having higher a higher selfconcept. Participants in out of school activities oftenlearned skills such
as teamwork and leadership while decreasing the likelihood of alcohol use andillicit drug use and
related problem behaviors. Those who participate in out of school activitiesoften have higher grade
point averages, a decrease in absenteeism, and an increased connectednessto the school.Music,
parental involvement, sports all of these have an influence on how children performacademically.
The way children choose to spend their free time can affect their school performance;it is not
simply traditional in class instruction that impacts academic achievement.Students attending school
who participates in some sort of organized activities which may includeclubs, athletic opportunities,
dance line or cheer teams, Scouts, drama or theater, youth groups, student council, and club sports.
There is substantial interest in how teenagers are spending their leisure time outside the school day,
and what types of activities are important to their development.Through my research, I found out
that there are studies that support either being involved, beingover involved, or not being involved
at all in extracurricular activities and how participation canimpact what becomes of teens in the
future based on participation in activities outside the schoolday.Research indicates

The Creation Of A Utopian Civilization Essay
In an imperfect world such as ours, the idea of a utopia capable of satisfying all needs and
desires has been attempted to be made reality time and time again. However, few have succeeded
because it is difficult if not impossible to accommodate a large population of people with varying
interests. The key to maintaining a utopian civilization is ensuring that all basic needs are met in
order to avoid the overthrow of the established government regulation activity. The creation of
Bentopia is centered around the goal to make the most efficient society possible while still allowing
citizens the freedom to choose. As the architectural committee, we strived to develop both public
and personal spaces that optimize the use of space in a non wasteful manner, while also keeping in
mind the climate, geographical location of our city, and environmental impact our structures have.
The way we have organized houses, shopping malls, governmental and corporate buildings within
our utopia is meant to maximize resources we have on hand through the division of the city into
three districts. The most important considerations when creating a layout fit for a utopia fifty years
into the future is offering a comfortable, sustainable lifestyle while still retaining core values of free
will and equality. The practical distribution of material goods should not jeopardize basic rights that
are standard within an ideal society. When first approaching the dilemma on how to allot land, the

Financial Restatement Paper
University of Phoenix ACC/537
After the introduction of the Sarbanes Oxley Act lots of companies have had to submit financial
restatements in their financials. This paper is to examine the financial restatements that have been
done by Kodiak Energy Inc. over the past several years due to incorrect reporting on the value of
their stocks. Kodiak Energy entered into an agreement with to purchase land from Thunder River
Energy in exchange for shares of stock in the Kodiak Energy Company. Kodiak Energy issued
seven million shares reported to be worth $2.00 per share. The SEC decided to look into this
arrangement and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kodiak Energies paid a heavy price
The shareholders were not pleased about the deception that Kodiak Energy had deceived them on
and quickly showed them the repercussion of lying and stealing from them. Over the next five
years, Kodiak Energies stock went from being worth $3.65 a share to a mere .10. Even though the
company tied to rectify the situation with a restatement, their years of dishonesty caught up to them
and they were unable to rectify their reputation by simply failing a misstatement. Kodiak Electric
almost put themselves out of business by trying to steal $1,125,835 from their shareholders pockets,
and reporting it as additional capital paid in to make it seem legitimate.
Restatements can be helpful if they are used to explain honest mistakes. Misstatements cannot be
used to cover up illegal accounting procedures. Shareholders will take notice and the end results
can be devastating to a company s business.

Growing stage
ECCO is a well developed company. Each step they take they try to improve every stage in the
value chain. They are very efficient and you can see this in their increasing sales. They got
companies all over the world and one main objective is minimizing their costs. They do this by
example having companies all over world instead of exporting their goods. This will help ECCO
reduce taxes on export goods. They can do this in Turkey by creating their own factory and have
local employees.
Value chain
Ecco controls the entire value chain from cow to customer. One of Ecco s most important raw
materials is high grade leather and that is the reason why they have operated their own tanneries in
the Netherlands, Thailand and Indonesia for many years. The tanneries help ensure that the
important raw material is always in compliance with Ecco s tough quality standards. Ecco s
tanneries are among the world s leading suppliers of high quality leather for car and airplane seats,
gloves, bags and shoes manufactured by other companies. In order to meet the growing demand,
they initiated the construction of a tannery near the factory in Xiamen, China in October 2007. The

Power In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Power is defined as the possession of control or command over others; authority...
(Dictionary.com), and all people have power, whether they notice it or not. Though some employ
their power for respectable reasons, often times power is not used in honorable ways. The matter
of abuse of authority is prevalent in the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck
illustrates that those who have power abuse it exceedingly often, as shown by Curley attacking
countless others, including Lennie, a mentally disabled man, Curley s wife mistreating the men of
the ranch, and Curley s wife making demeaning comments about Crooks, the African American
stable buck. First, Curley exploits the reality that his father is the owner of the ranch, where... Show

26). Curley s influence over the other men convinces them that he is supreme and no one can be
better, thus resulting in a shameful battle between Curley and the detested man. His need to prove
his seniority usurps Curley s mind, and drives him psychotic until able to show himself better. This
need, in turn, forces the men into a position where they must assist Curley or potentially lose their
job because of the influence Curley can have on his father, resulting in the man whom Curley has
quarrels with being harmed. Additionally, Curley elects to fight other men for any type of
provocation. For instance, he asked Lennie, a mentally disabled man, What...you laughin at?...Get
up on your feet...I ll show ya... (Steinbeck, 62) when Lennie had been smiling innocently while
absorbed in thoughts of the farm he and George were going to own. As a result, the men engaged in

Themes Of Love And A Poem
This is my anthology which is a collection of different Love Poems . It includes my creations of
poems that I have made in this course, two favorite poems that I enjoyed quite a lot, a poem that I
have borrowed and a graffiti poem that I have also created in this course.
To start it off, I have chosen my theme as Love because I find this topic interesting and one of the
topics that contains a deep meaning. The special part about my anthology is that it shows
different aspects of love and a timeline of love. There is a poem that is about falling in love and
another about the death of a love. My anthology considers different perspectives towards Love.
The poems that I have used in my anthology consists of a wide array of authors, such as William
Shakespeare, Percy Bysshe Shelley, D. H. Lawrence, Martin Armstrong and also me. In my
anthology there are two poems created by me The Blooms of My Love and All I want from you (is
away) , there are two found poems one by Percy Bysshe Shelley called Music, When Soft Voices
Die , another by William Shakespeare Let me not to the marriage of true minds , there is another
borrowed poem called Love Has Crept into Her Sealed Heart by D. H. Lawrence, and the last one is
a graffiti work done by me on a poem called Mrs. Reece Laughs by Martin Armstrong. All these
poems are poems that were interesting to me and filled with lots of deep messages.
Furthermore, the poems I have selected, have been carefully decided upon. Each one has

The Role of Fate in Romeo and Juliet
Most of Shakespeare s plays are conceived around a foundation in either tragedy or comedy, this
polarity of themes allowing him to experiment with the full range of human emotions. Typically,
an integral part of a Shakespearean tragedy is love, which is frustrated by a breakdown in order,
or the character of the hero, due to some human limitation. The play Romeo and Juliet has all
these typical characteristics. However, the resultant conclusion of events for the characters in this
tragedy is adversely affected by the hands of fate, and not solely the product of human limitations.
Fate in fact has a decisive role in the events of the play; it is a series of rapid coincidental events,
which lead to the final tragedy. Romeo and Juliet are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Participants in the action, some of them in parts that are minor and seem insignificant, contribute
one by one the indispensable stitches which make the pattern, and contribute them not knowing;
that is to say, they act when they do not know the truth of the situation in which they act, this
truth being known, however, to us who are spectators. (The Brevity of Friar Laurence, 850) The
idea that Fortune dictates the course of mankind dates back to ancient times. Those writers of the
medieval world incorporated the goddess Fortune into Christianity and made her God s servant,
responsible for adding challenges to our lives so that we would see the importance of giving up
our tumultuous earthly lives to God. The most influential treatise on the theme of Fate was The
Consolation of Philosophy, written by the scholar Boethius (A.D. 475 525). Written while he
awaited execution, it is a dialogue between himself and his guide Philosophy , who explores with
him the true nature of happiness and fate, and leads him to hope and enlightenment. Here is an

Business- How Key Elements of Marketting Achieve Success
Our success is a direct result of knowing how to market a brand and having the right people
representing the brand (Norman, 2009). Marketing is a key element in the success of any business.
The elements of marketing incorporate: situational analysis, market objectives, the target market
and marketing strategies.
Most marketing plans begin with an executive summary, providing a brief summary of the current
issues affecting a business. It is crucial in identifying key features of a marketing plan. Following
the executive summary a business finds out its current position in the market using a situational
analysis. A situational analysis is an exceptional way to open the marketing plan as covers four
components in a market analysis, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mass markets consist of all consumers, taking into account all factors market. Segment markets
target one area of the market and need to focus greatly on price and promotion. Niche markets
being the smallest are very specific in what they sell and have a tight customer base. Imax theatres
use market segmentation to attack and promote their films to all of the market. For example in
using geographical locations they target Sydney siders as a major segment accounting for 60% of
sales. This is then broken further down into more specific areas such as schools and tourists. In
doing this they have the ability to target consumers more specifically. They may target schools by
screening educational films or by giving them a discount for an entire class.
The final component used to achieve success in the marketing business scenarios are strategies.
These are market strategies or methods that are used to achieve the previous component; market
objectives. The main strategies adopted by business are the marketing mix. This consists of the
four P s, product, prices, promotion and place. An ideal way to demonstrate how these are crucial
in success is the expansion on the Imax case study. Elaborating on the Imax target markets are the
strategies it uses to achieve its objectives. Its strategy in relation to the product side of things is a

When multiple people are given assessments of some kind or are the subjects of some test, then
similar people under the same circumstances should lead to scores that are similar or duplicates (
Types Of Reliability , 2011). This is the idea of inter rater reliability. Another mode of reliability
is the administration of the same test among different participants and expecting the same or
similar results ( Types Of Reliability , 2011). This is known as Test retest reliability. This method
of measurement might be used to make determinations about the effectiveness of a school exam or
personality test ( Types Of Reliability , 2011). Surveys and other methods of research present the
appropriate avenues for data collection. Data collection and measurement methods are used in
human services to help organizations achieve leadership capacity and to achieve high performance
outcomes. Agencies that track the effectiveness of their services through field studies and surveys
will have a record of techniques that have worked best to fulfill mission goals. The evidence of
such reported facts will come in handy in terms of funding, policy efforts, and keeping

In England during the industrial revolution there was a lot of poverty and pollution, especially in
the main towns where the mass unemployment and people often had to go into the work houses.
The conditions that they were made to work in were overcrowded. There was no sanitation or
anywhere to clean, and there was a large amount of pollution. These all led to diseases among the
workers. Some of the jobs that the children were made to do were chimney sweeping or selling
matches. Adults had to do bone crushing for fertilisers, working in kitchens and doing the laundry
for rich people. At the time there were three poets that all felt strongly about the appalling

For example, in traditional rural Punjab, two of the most important centers of human activity have
been the Sikh Gurdwara and a source of water pond, tank, pool, or running water. Surrounding these
two sites was community land, not used anyone for personal farming. This area provides shade,
shelter, and firewood within easy reach. Instead of having people going into the forest and

that a community can thrive whilst co existing with nature. Furthermore, the culture is based on

Marxist View On The Importance Of Being Ernest
Viewing the play of The Importance of Being Earnest from a feminist perspective portrays the men
in the Victorian Era to be misogynistic. A perpetuated stereotype in this play is that women should
be protected from the truth. Jack:[In a very patronizing manner] My dear fellow, the truth isn t
quite the sort of thing one tells to a nice, sweet, refined girl. What extraordinary ideas you have
about the way to behave to a woman (29)! The belief that women are fragile and unable to handle
anything serious is present. Furthermore, when Algernon discovers that Cecily is convinced that
they had met before and had had many romantic encounters, she is presented as mentally insane.
This perpetuates the belief that women depend on men and could not be satisfied without one in
their life. In addition to this, Gwendolen and Cecily are the ones being deceived by Jack and
Algernon. This shows that women are stereotypically submissive to men and can be taken
advantage of. Through evaluating The Importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Multicultural Education Chapter 15 Summary
Chapter fifteen of Multicultural Education is divided into three major sections. These three sections
include recruitment and barriers, recruitment recommendations, and retention issues/difficulties. A
large part of this chapter focuses on the underrepresentation of culturally diverse students in gifted
and advance placement programs. When taking a look at gifted educationprograms, there is an
extreme underrepresentation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans in
these programs. Gifted education programs are a need not just a privilege and should not be used
as a simple form of segregation between races or cultures.
In 1954, the United States Supreme Court ruled deliberate school segregation to be unconstitutional.

Such supports may include teaching of study skills, test taking skills, time management skills, and
organizational skills. Whether or not a student is gifted is often associated with their achievement
and productivity. It used to be believed that there was no such thing as a gifted underachiever, but
over time that has proven to be false. Gifted students may tend to underachieve when they are
unmotivated or uninterested in school, are procrastinators, do not complete assignments or only
do enough to get by. Gifted underachievers are not as likely to receive or be referred for gifted
education or advanced placement classes. This often occurs due to testing being warped and using
a single mode of assessment, such as focusing only on IQ scores, Rather than using a single mode
of assessment, testing should include both intelligence and achievement data in order to fully
determine if a student is both gifted and achieving, gifted and underachieving, or gifted but weak
when it comes to academic or social skills. This would help significantly when it comes to
determining placement decisions for students as well as help those gifted underachievers become
achievers by teaching them study and language skills that they may currently be lacking.
Recruitment for gifted education programs need to develop a more well rounded philosophy,

This vast market share achievement evidences the lack of domestic competition and further
weakening of Japan as an advantaged location. During this period, Shimano also began establishing
production and marketing operations beyond the borders of Japan, a strategy to help shield the
company from the recession that followed the Oil Shock of the 1970s, as well as to take advantage
of favorable factor conditions and related and supporting industries in Singapore. Singapore was an
ideal location because it shared Japan s cultural commitment to superior quality manufacturing.
Although Shimano s structure remained aligned with the cultural values of Japan, and its domestic
strategies leveraged them by aiming education at developing the Japanese market, the strength in

its home base s disadvantaged location, Shimano was able to simulate strong demand and factor

6.03 Synthesis Lab Report
This lab could have contained errors. The errors could have happened when performing the lab.
Some of the possible errors in this lab are:
There might have been some mistakes made while transferring the ingredients from the beaker and
the funnel to the flask and the burret.
The antacid tablets were not crushed properly, resulting in big crumbs of the tablet which will
affect the dissolving process of the lab.
There might have been more KOH solution added to the flask resulting in the observations to be
wrong.
The mixture might have contained more or less than 5 drops of bromophenol blue, which might
have resulted in the indication of the lab.
Not enough attention paid when the solution was changing colours.
The buret might have been leaky resulting in more KOH dropped in the erlenmeyer flask.
Conclusion: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lab checked for neutralization and check if it did not neutralize too much or too little. There
were two commonly sold brands examined in this lab which were the Tums and Rolaids. The
crushed tablets were dissolved in 0.10 M HCl with a pH indicator bromophenol blue and a
solution of KOH was added to it in order to neutralize the solution. The solution turned light blue
when it was neutralized. Both the tablets were neutralized and titrated in the same way. From the
observations above; Rolaids was better because it had better neutralizing ability per each dollar
spent than the Tums. As the Rolaids were 4.07g/$ and the Tums were 4.01g/$ as seen from the
observations above. So, the better buy is the Rolaids out of the two as the neutralization ability per
dollar spent in the Rolaids is better than the

Freedom Of Speech On College Campuses
After reviewing Supreme Court cases relevant to the issue of freedom of speech on public
college campuses it is evident that some guidance has been given, here is what we know when
looking at free speech on public college campuses. First, in Sweezy, there is a recognized right by
the Court to Academic Freedom, especially scholarship and the need for the freedom to inquire,
evaluate, and study (354 U.S. 234). Secondly, in Keyishian, the Court set the standard for Academic
freedom as not allowing ...laws that cast a pall of orthodoxy over the classroom (385 U.S. 603).
Keyishian also recognized that restrictions put forth by the college that administer a potential

UA s policy is vague because there is no correct answer and they want to be legally sound if their
policy is ever challenged. The Supreme Court cases are vague because there will be times when
the situation calls for an alteration of a previous opinion, such as Tinker in Kuhlmeier. The
facts: what happened, what was spoken, what actions were taken... are the most important
aspects of free speech, because there are only limited and uncertain guidelines to follow. Judging
cases as they come along is the only future for free speech, this is because if there ever is a
narrowly defined definition for each aspect of free speech two things may happen. First, there
will be no end to the definition or second, the definition will be so limiting that within a few
years, the definition will not be inclusive enough or incorporate the speech of an ever developing
world. With technology changing, who knows what speech will be like in the coming years. To
have vague standards, with case by case facts and interpretations will ensure that free speech is
duly handled, maybe not always in the way the public wants, but such is legality. If we take a step
back, the questions being asked are often similar, but with their own individuality. Where
academics draw the line for speech will vary, and will often be challenged. But, maybe the gray

Effect Of Ascorbic Acid On Vitamin B2
Chemical stability examination of vitamins B6 (Pyridoxine), vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and vitamin
B2 (riboflavin) for neonatal use in parental nutrition
Background
Vitamins are parental nutrition (PN) constituents used to provide daily requirements and supply
deficiencies in neonates. The vitamin loss in the parental nutrition bad is commonly caused by
chemical degradation. The reduction thiamine and oxidation of vitamin C are the frequent reactions
of chemical degradation. The vitamin C is most unstable vitamin added to parental nutrition. It is
highly oxidized. Its oxidation is influenced by high temperatures and the catalysis by the oligo
elements like copper. Its first degradation route is reversible and has biological activities while the
remaining degradation routes are irreversible and lack biological activities. The degradation of
vitamin C depends on the availability of oxygen in the medium (packaging material used). Various
amino acids also affect the vitamin C stability due to its copper ions chelating and this reduces its
potential which further decreases residual oxygen effect. The vitamin C end product (oxalic acid
formation) possesses a toxic potential and quickly interacts with free available calcium ions thereby
initiating calcium oxalate precipitation.
Thiamine degradation is caused by reduction as result of the presence of sodium metabisulfite
which is an antioxidant applied in the crystallization of amino acids solution. Vitamin B2 is most

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Hillary Rodham Clinton s Speech
On September 5, 1995, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke in front of delegates from 180
countries at the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. There, she was to deliver one
of her greatest speeches on a topic that affects all of us; human rights, more notably, the rights of
women and children. In her speech, Clinton persuaded those in attendance, utilizing ethos, pathos
and logos, to understand the importance of women s rights and to demand that they take steps to
ensure that women receive the same liberties as men.
Aristotle, Greek philosopher and scientist, argued that there were three ingredients needed to
effectively persuade those around you; ethos, pathos, and logos.

It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are sold into the slavery of prostitution for
human greed and the kinds of reasons that are used to justify this practice should no longer be

Humans have rights. Women are humans. Women should have human rights. Hillary utilized this
argument to persuade her audience with logos appeal as it is only logical that women s rights
should be equal to all human s rights, because after all, women are humans.
We need to understand there is no one formula for how women should lead our lives. That is why
we must respect the choices that each woman makes for herself and her family. Every woman
deserves the chance to realize her own God given potential. But we must recognize that women will
never gain full dignity until their human rights are respected and protected. (Clinton, 1995)

Essay on Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson, 28th president of the United States (1913 21), secured a legislative program of
progressive domestic reform, guided his country during WORLD WAR I, and sought a peace
settlement based on high moral principles, to be guaranteed by the LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
Early Life and Career
Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton, Va., on Dec. 28, 1856. He was profoundly
influenced by a devoutly religious household headed by his father, Joseph Ruggles Wilson, a
Presbyterian minister, and his mother,
Janet Woodrow Wilson, the daughter of a minister. Woodrow (he dropped the

Opposed by wealthy alumni and trustees, he also lost his battle for control of the proposed
graduate college. The Princeton controversies, seen nationally as a battle between democracy and
vested wealth, propelled Wilson into the political arena.
George Harvey, editor of Harper s Weekly, with help from New Jersey s
Democratic party bosses, persuaded Wilson to run for governor in 1910.
After scoring an easy victory, he cast off his machine sponsors and launched a remarkable program
of progressive legislation, including a direct primary law, antitrust laws, a corrupt practices act, a
workmen s compensation act, and measures establishing a public utility commission and permitting
cities to adopt the commission form of government.
Success in New Jersey made him a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination. Although
Wilson entered the 1912 Democratic
National Convention a poor second to Speaker of the House Champ Clark, his strength increased
as Clark s faded, and he won the nomination after 46 ballots. Offering a program of reform that he
called the New Freedom,
Wilson ran against a divided Republican party. In November, with only 42 percent of the popular
vote, he won 435 electoral votes to 88 for
Progressive candidate Theodore Roosevelt and 8 for the Republican candidate,
President William Howard Taft.

The Fourteenth Amendment And The National Government Essay
The tenth amendment states that any power not granted to the National US government is given to
the states. The tenth amendment deals with three different types of power. The three separate
powers are delegated powers, reserved powers, and prohibited powers. Delegated powers are the
powers assigned to the Federal government. An example would be the power to regulate commerce.
The reserved powers are the powers that are granted to the states. An example would be to regulate
education. The prohibited powers are the powers that are denied to the national or state government
by the Constitution. An example would be that the states cannot declare war or the national
government cannot make any law that respects a particular religion. The only question that is posed
by the tenth amendment is whether a claimed federal power is justified. The tenth amendment
helps establish federalism in the Unites States. Federalism is a type of government in which the
national government and the state s share sovereignty. The 10th amendment verifies that not all
power is delegated to the national government or the states. The national government has all power
vested to it from the enumerated powers of the Constitution, but the states have all other powers not
already given to the national government. Generally, the national government has the powers
concerning the well being of all the states, while the states have the powers to solve problems that
are more close to home. For example, one of the

Another major problem banks have had to content with is the inconsistency in monetary and
regulatory policies. The surveillance and regulatory measures of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
have unfortunately been unable to keep the pace with the rapidity of the charges in the financial
system.
All these factors deregulation, competition, innovation, economic recession, political instability,
escalating inflation, and frequent reversal in monetary policy have combined to create a
challenging and precarious financial environment for banks. Consequence of the new financial
environment has been rapidly declining profitability of the traditional banking activities. Thus, in a
bid to survive and maintain adequate profit level in this highly competitive environment, banks
have tended to take excessive risks. But, then the increasing tendency for greater risk taking has
resulted in insolvency and failure of a large number of the banks [9].
The continuing deterioration in the financial health of the banks and increasing incidence of bank
failure since deregulation have raised question about the nature and state of the Nigerian banking
sector. 1. Statement of the Problem
It is a known fact that banks play

Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William...
Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth wrote two versions of the poem To A Butterfly, one in March, the other in
April. In reading the poems, the situation presented is obviously the same, only interpreted
differently and reflected differently. As Wordsworth himself said about poetry
: it is the spontaneous
overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity: the
emotion is contemplated till by a species of reaction the tranquillity gradually disappears. Both
versions of the poem are about the memory that the sight of a butterfly brings back, not so much a

In the last two lines, we learn that the memory is not of the two of them together, but primarily
of his sister, Emmeline, who feared to brush the dust from off its wings. The memory seems like
it should be a happy one, but the language of the beginning of the poem tells us otherwise, and
we are left wondering what has happened between the memory and now. The tone of the second
poem, the April poem, is quite different from that of the first. Here, the poet does not impose his
own thoughts and impressions upon the butterfly, but simply observes it, and wonders about the
natural life of a butterfly. He thinks of what it would be like to be a butterfly, thoughts that would
put one in a fanciful mood, not a somber one. If the butterfly happened to take flight in the April
poem, I think the poet would be happy about this (compare lines 7 9 of the April poem to lines 1 2
of the March poem). The next stanza is very important in differentiating between the uneasy sort
of reflective mood of the March poem, because it describes the orchard ground as theirs, his and
his sister s together, showing us that nothing bad has happened to her (an idea I got from the
March poem). He tells the butterfly that it is welcome in their orchard whenever it would like to
rest, and they would like to see him often. Lines 16 19 describe the conversations they will have

American Directness and the Japanese Essay
American Directness and the Japanese
American and Japanese ways of speaking are so different that they often cause culture shock to
both Americans and Japanese who visit each other s country. Most Japanese who come to the
United States are at first shocked and have a problem with the American direct way of speaking.
Culture shock occurs because most Japanese cannot easily escape from the formula politeness=
indirectness. Compared to the American way of speaking, Japanese speak much more indirectly.
Directness is considered a form of impoliteness in Japan. Therefore, when we want to be polite, we

Americans in the presence of guests say, I m hungry or Can I have another glass of juice? On the
other hand, we can easily understand what they want.
At the same time, Japanese are shocked because their way of being polite no longer holds good in
the United States. If we answer, Uh..., yes. I m hungry but only a little, our host or hostess may
postpone the meal. Later, Americans around me might notice my stomach rumbling and wonder
why I did not tell the truth.
Similarly, Japanese may be surprised to hear Americans say No often because Japanese tend not
to say No. We usually express our reluctance to accept an offer by subtle facial and verbal
expressions because we want to avoid making people feel bad by refusing directly. For instance, a
Japanese student studying might say, Um..., yes, when asked by an American roommate if he may

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power.
Abraham Lincoln. Once you give a man power, it all goes downhill from there. In The Lord of
the Flies by William Golding, there is one group of boys on an island. The boys elect one chief,

they feel like the new leader can help them better than the old one, they think that the leader can
provide for them and it doesn t matter who that leader is, they will follow them because there s no

One reason that people will follow a corrupt leader is that the people will look for anyone else to

Billy Elliot Diversity
Billy Elliot, directed by Stephen Daldry, is a coming of age film, filmed in the year 2000. It was
set in the year 1984. The film was set in the North of England, in a village called Everington. The
director made sure that the movie did not go off course and stayed relevant to the time period of
the 1980s. I found that the language presented in the film, was relevant to the time period and the
labeling or stereotyping used was very appropriate to the 1980s period. This was because people
were only coming to terms with the change and the diversity of men being gay or females being
lesbian. The four aspects covered in this essay will be on, Billy Elliot and his relationship with his
father. The relationship between Billy Elliot and Mrs. Wilkinson.... Show more content on

In the movie, Billy was not seen as a normal eleven year old boy just because he enjoyed ballet.
In the 1980 s gender diversity was not accepted as much as it is now. When he did ballet, Billy s
class was full of female students which were seen as normal and boys were not expected to do
any female activities. Billy did not mind joining the class and he actually enjoyed it. Billy was
not very good at dancing but he eventually found a passion and a fire within him to want to do
ballet. One of the problems that Billy faced was to actually learn how to dance. His body had
never had to have been controlled and every movement in ballet was controlled and precise.
Another obstacle was that he had to deal with the abuse and disgrace from Jackie and Tony who
were worried that Billy would have been seen as a poof . Jackie and Tony were disgusted when
they heard Billy wanted to become a professional ballet dancer. This made Billy more determined
to achieve his dream, not just to prove his family wrong, but other people who thought that boys
shouldn t dance. Billy wanted it so much that he would practice in secret. The biggest goal was
that he had to prove not just to himself but also to Mrs. Wilkinson that he had the passion to make
ballet a lifetime career and the willingness to learn to join the Royal Ballet

Comparing Roland Marchand The Advertisers Of The 1920s And...
Using close readings of the advertisements themselves as well as extensive information on the
marketing and advertising industries, Roland Marchand argues that the advertisers of the 1920s
and 1930s worked both as advice givers about the problems of modernity. His analysis is divided
into three sections: the advertisingindustry, advertising as visual culture. Using three examples,
Marchand illustrates why the early twenties were a turning point in advertising. The reason being
the shift in the ads themselves from being product centered to consumer centered, where the
product is a solution to a consumer problem.
Marchand notes the patronizing attitude of the admen to mostly female consumers even as they
worked to connect with them. However,

The Cleveland Way Analysis
The opening section of the Cleveland Way begins with a leisurely stroll along the beautiful wooded
valley of the river Rye, climbing gradually to the limestone plateau of the Hambleton Hills. Pausing
at one of Yorkshire s most famous attractions the White Horse of Kilburn.
Assuming that the riches of Helmsley have already been explored, we begin our journey of
discovery from the market square. There are some superb views of Helmsley Castle as we leave
the village. The Cleveland Way meanders through the woodland to Rievaulx Bridge where a short
detour to Rievaulx Abbey is worthwhile.
The Abbey, founded in 1132, was the first Cistercian abbey in the North of England. Rievaulx s
foundation, initiated by St Bernard of Clairvaux, was part of an ambitious plan for the monastic
colonisation of Northern England and Scotland. Rievaulx soon became one of the most powerful
monasteries in England, a place for meditВation, learning and culture. The Abbey began to establish
colonies in 1136. The most important of these was Melrose Abbey, Scotland s first Cistercian
monastery, endowed by King David.
Walter l Espec, the great Norman lord of Helmsley, provided most of the abbey s land. In addition,
he granted to William, the first abbot, and his twelve monks, the present site on the banks of ...

Radish Essay
Abstract: The objective throughout this radish report is to determine the growth affects of using
Osmocote fertilizer compared to not using fertilizer on the growth of Radishes, focusing on the
radish root size, root weight, leaf area, and the SPAD. For growing Radishes with and without
fertilizer, you need six four inch starter pots filled lightly with soil, then determine which pots will
be the control, and which will be the test group. The easiest way to keep track of these two groups
is by labeling them, using tags to identifying the date, name of plant, and whether it is your control
or test. Next, gather Radish seeds and begin planting them four per pot about a half inch under the
soli and then cover lightly, always remember to water your seeds after planting them to begin...

Antibiotics Resistance
Antibiotics are powerful very frequently used potential drugs in fighting bacterial infections
worldwide, [1]. These agents saved millions of lives in the past fifty years in both hospital based
and outpatient settings. Inadequate measures to control the spreading of infections, overprescribing
as well as inappropriate selection and dosing of antibiotics by healthcare providers, unfettered
access to antimicrobials by public, failure to adhere to clinically desired treatment regimens are
some of the driving force to spread of antibiotics resistance, [2]. In addition, lack of regulations to
promote the rational use of antibiotics in humans, infection prevention and control are some of the
other factors that lead to emergence of resistance to antibiotics, [3].

Speech On Smoking
A Breath of Fresh Air
Even after people know what these substances can and will do to their body, people keep taking
it and in the process, they slowly destroy their bodies every day just so they can feel good for
some number of hours. Some of those people get so addicted they lose jobs, friends, homes and
even family smoking these toxic chemicals. The smoke you put in your lungs starts to break
down tissues there and other body parts and can lead to serious or even fatal diseases. I could go
all eternity without ever smoking or doing any drugs of any kind and never be bothered about it.
Even teens who get dared to smoke at a party can really destroy their bodies. The harmful toxins
break down their bodies and causes diseases for them later in their life. Smoking causes 90% of
deaths from lung cancer, around 80% of deaths from COPD, and around 17% deaths from heart
disease. Sadly, most people don t realize the damage just one cigaret can have on your body.
Every drag you take on the cigaret raises you blood pressure and heart rate. Teenagers that smoke
at the age of 15 are three times more likely to die from cancer than someone who starts smoking
in their mid 20s. For this reason, smoking as a teen can permanently damage your body and
smoking can even kill young adults or give them intense diseases later on in their life.
If you have ever seen a long term smoker before and after their years of smoking, you ve seen first
hand the damage they do to the outside of

Medical Ethical Controversy On Abortion
Medical Ethical Controversy
A recent medical ethical controversy that resurfaces every few years is the debate of abortion. The
Roe v. Wade US Supreme Court decision in 1973 made a significant change to abortion laws, giving
women the choice to terminate pregnancy without requiring eminent health risks to the mother.
(n.d., 2015) The ethical debate of abortion continues even with the practice being legal.
The 2016 GOP elections are placing the debate of abortion back in the limelight. (Milligan, 2015)
Some groups of individuals have strong beliefs about abortion being ethically wrong and should
not be allowed as an option. As with any ethical dilemma there are strong believers on each side of
the situation. Pro life versus Pro choice is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new regulations are aimed at the donation of the tissues from aborted fetuses. The release of
Planned Parenthood videos discussing this practice has brought much exposure to this practice. The
sale of tissue from an aborted fetus is illegal, unless the patient consents to donating the tissue. (Ura
/Walters, 2015)
Medical professionals that choose to work within the abortion industry are met with much
controversy and at times danger to their well being. The 1991 murder of Dr. David Gunn started
several years of murders, assaults and bombings against abortion clinics and employees. The irony
of these individuals committing murder to protest a woman s right to obtain an abortion, is
blatantly obvious. The fact that medical professionals have to fear for their safety because they are
providing a legal service to patients is ridiculous.
Whether a person would choose to obtain an abortion for themselves, does not provide them for
the right to make a decision about what another individual would choose to do. Personally I am a
Pro choice supporter and support any woman who deems that an abortion is the right decision
based on her individual circumstances. The ethical dilemma of abortion will not be disappearing
anytime soon, because of the strong emotions of

The Great Leadership Of The Shah
FEW US PRESIDENTS got it as wrong as Jimmy Carter, when, on New Year s Eve 1977, during
a state visit to Iran he confidently opined: Iran, because of the great leadership of the Shah, is an
island of stability in one of the more troubled areas of the world. The President spoke way too
soon. A week later, the Shah s police shot down dozens of theology students in the holy city of Qom
as they demonstrated against a scurrilous attack on the prominent Muslim cleric Ayatollah
Khomeini in a pro government newspaper.
The incident triggered off a year of growing protest that climaxed in a full blown revolution. The
Shah s government collapsed. He was forced out of Iran and into exile.
US relations with the new regime began to deteriorate speedily. The catalyst was the events that
took place on 4 November, when, angered by the US government s decision to allow the exiled
Shah into the US for cancer treatment, a mob of young Iranians, mostly radical university students
and supporters of Ayatollah Khomeini, laid siege to the US Embassy in Tehran. They surged over
the wall around the Embassy compound and broke into its buildings. Most of the embassy
personnel in the compound were taken hostage. Their ordeal was to last for the next 14 months.
Six Americans managed to escape capture. Lee Schatz, the Agricultural AttachГ©, casually strolled
through the crowd to take refuge inside the Swedish Embassy. Robert Anders, the head of the

Chapter 25 of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck Essay...
Chapter 25 of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
In the twenty fifth chapter of his novel The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck presents the reader
with a series of vivid images, accompanied by a series of powerful indictments. Steinbeck
effectively uses both the potent imagery and clear statements of what he perceives as fact to
convey his message. This short chapter offers a succinct portrayal of one of the major themes of the
larger work. Namely, the potential bounty of nature corruptedand left to rot by a profit driven
system, a system that ultimately fails.
Steinbeck begins the chapter with the simple statement, The spring is beautiful in California (p.

32). Spring is how Steinbeck has chosen to begin this chapter and, though it is not an everlasting
spring, this Californian spring resembles Ovid s Golden Age. Just as Ovid s ages of the world
degenerate into baser and baser metals, so Steinbeck s California degenerates from springtime of
bounty to a harvest time of fruit rotting on the ground.
Continuing to contrast Ovid and Steinbeck another difference becomes apparent. In Ovid s Golden
Age the earth is bountiful without the interference of humans. Ovid says, The earth itself, without
compulsion, untouched by the hoe ... produced all things spontaneously, and men were content
with foods that grew without cultivation (p. 32). Steinbeck s Californian Eden comes about in
vastly different manner. Steinbeck states, Behind the fruitfulness are men of understanding and
knowledge and skill (p. 346). These men manipulate the earth, experimenting with seeds and roots,
seeking to make plants resilient to all manners of pest and blight. Others, men of chemistry, devise
chemical sprays to kills insects, and cut out disease and rots, mildews and sicknesses (p. 346).
There are still others. Doctors of preventative medicine, surgeons, and border guards, all of whom
are attempting to increase the yield and bounty of the earth. No,

Southern Renaissance Influence
The Southern Renaissance was a time during the 1920s and 1930s where there was a change in
southern literature. Even though most of the Southern Renaissance took place during the 1920s
and 30s it was still affected by WWII. The Southern Renaissance is important because it saw a
bunch of new southern writers and affected southern literature. People say that the Southern
renaissance ended before WWII but it actually continued after WWII and was Affected by it.
One example of how WWII had an effect on the Southern Renaissance is ...the coming of the
second World War and its aftermath not only confirmed those changes but it created a modern
day south that in numerous respects seemed to bear little relationship to the community in
which the leading writers of the Southern Renaissance had been born a half century or so earlier
(Rubin 463). This quote shows what the second world war did to the south. The Southern
Renaissance and WWII also had effects on segregation and black novelists. One example of the
effect the renaissance had on segregation is the period in which it emerged saw the south
decidedly on the defensive in its efforts to stave off challenges to segregation (Abadie 14). A
good example of how the renaissance affected black novelists is the depression in the 1930s and
World War II in the 1940s are central events in American social history. Yet southern black novels
during these two decades rarely do more than hint at the effects either event had on the lives of

Main Ideas Of The Communist Manifesto
The Main Ideas of the Communist Manifesto
This essay discusses the three main ideas of The Communist Manifesto. The first idea is the
struggle between class divisions, the bourgeoisie and the proletariats, how the bourgeoisie came to
dominate society. The second idea is how the bourgeoisie exploited various mediums through means
of production and came to bring about the industrial revolution and how the proletariats united to
overthrow the bourgeoisie. The final idea is how the communists work together with the proletariats
towards a common goal of abolishing private property, thus creating freedom for all.

over throwing the bourgeoisie and gaining political control. Having the communist on side through

especially regarding their wage labour. In bourgeoisie society, living labour is but a means to
increase accumulated labour. In communist society, accumulated labour is but a means to widen,
to enrich, to promote the existence of the labourer...In bourgeoisie society, capital is independent
and has individuality, while the living person is dependent and has no individuality. (Marx, 1848,
page 24) The bourgeoisie continued to exploit workers for capital gain. Abolition of bourgeois
individuality and freedom and private property is the aim for communists. In order to do precisely
this the working class must rise into political supremacy gaining political power allowing them to
oppress the bourgeois class. If the proletariat during its contest with the bourgeoisie is
compelled...will thereby have abolished its own supremacy as a class. Thus creating an association

What Effect Does Stress Have on Health? Many individuals face the problem of stress today.
Every individual will eventually experience stress at some point in his or her life. Stress is defined
as an internal state which can be caused by physical demands of the body or by environmental and
social situations, which are evaluated as potentially harmful, uncontrollable, or exceeding our
resources for coping. An environmental situation could be a natural disaster such as a hurricane and
a social circumstance could be work. This means that stress is typically inevitable; humans

When the acne worsens, the person will then have to go find a solution for their acne. Teenagers are
sufferers to stress related acne breakouts, as hormones are very unbalanced and constantly
changing. Adults however, will find that their acne formed from high levels of stress. Both age
groups suffer regardless due to cells that produce sebum during stress. Situations that put individuals
into emotional distressing situations will cause an outburst of acne. These cells will continue to
produce sebum uncontrollably causing worsened symptoms for the victim.
When stress occurs, this creates a mental disturbance in the mind. This mental disturbance or
disruption creates insomnia, which is the inability to sleep. Stress has the ability to create
hyperarousal upsets the balance between sleep and wakefulness. The increase in stress will feed
this unbalance creating insomnia. Thirty seven percent of adults report fatigue or feeling tired
because of stress and More than one third of teens (35 percent) report that stress caused them to lie
awake at night (American Psychological Association 5,2). Stress affects insomnia by making it
even harder to fall asleep and to stay asleep.
Stress frequently affect your life physically as well as mentally. The psychological toll on one

  • 2. The Effects Of Radiation On Public Health The Effects of Radiation in the Environment on Public Health Introduction Radiation in the environment is widespread and a necessary process for the existence of life. We encounter it from natural sources like the sun or from modern technology such as computed tomography better known as CT scan, and nuclear power plants. Radiation from sunlight is essential but too much of it can be harmful, just as the use of radiation in CT scans. Computed tomography can provide lifesaving information about disease but can also cause disease. One of the topics that every so often pops up in the news is radioactive waste management and protecting the public against the hazards of radioactive waste from power plants and other facilities that produce radioactive waste. People want to know where is this waste disposed and/or stored and who has access this material. Many of the concerns center around the dangers of radioactive leaks and exposure; consequently, most people do not want this material in their neighborhood. Another concern is the use of waste material as nuclear weapons by terrorists. The disposal and managing of radioactive waste is extremely complicated, not only because of the dangers hazardous waste poses, but also because of the strict compliance the management of this waste must undergo. If radioactive hazardous waste is compliant with the regulations of all the governing federal agencies, it does not pose an environmental public health risk. This paper will discuss ... Exams are not devised to reward hard work or effort, though hard work and effort generally contribute to greater course knowledge and, thus, better exam grades. I may include attitude and personal interest in the course and course materials, and partaking in optional voluntary essay assignments given throughout the semester as part of the participation 5%. • 4. The Nissan Rogue Car manufacturers sometimes choose odd names for their vehicles. Most such names, including the Mazda Bongo and the Mitsubishi Pistachio, never make it to the US as marketers wisely intervene and demand changes. The Nissan Rogue has one of those names that slipped through the cracks, although it is doubtful whether the true meaning of the word is known by many. Of rogue Merriam Webster describes as, a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel. The second dictionary definition may be more in line with what Nissan was thinking, a playfully mischievous person; scamp. Naming choice aside, the Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover sport utility vehicle, just one of several models this Japanese brand sells in North America. The Juke is the smallest of the lot, followed by the Rogue, Murano and Pathfinder. The Xterra a midsize traditional body on frame SUV was retired at the end of 2015. That leaves the Armada at the top of the SUV pecking order in the Nissan range. 2015 Nissan Rogue A 2015 Nissan Rogue SV FWD edition was a recent weekly test vehicle, a five passenger SUV with an optional third row seat. That two person seat is part of a $940 SV Family Package, one that curiously includes run flat tires. From the get go I ll say this: if you really need room for seven, you re looking at the wrong vehicle: the Nissan Pathfinder SUV (please read my review here) or the Nissan Quest minivan are better suited for the job. Otherwise stick with two rows the third row is mostly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Third Bank Of The River By Roger Rosenblatt Journey means to travel, to start at one point and move on to another. It was clearly demonstrated in The Children of Cambodia, an essay by Roger Rosenblatt. It takes place in 1983 where he interviewed Cambodia children after the reign of Pol Pot. Pol Pot was the leader of Cambodia during the 1970s and he led 1.5 million Cambodians into death of starvation, execution, or being overworked. In another topic of journey, The Third Bank of the River, written by J.G. Rosa, is about a father who abandons his familyby traveling away on a canoe for years without reason. Finally, Cathedral is a story written by Ray Carver in which a judgmental man lets his wife s blind friend spend the night at their house and things turn out unexpectedly. The main resolution these three pieces of writing have in common is that at least one character undergoes a journey. In deeper detail, journey can be from realizing things about life or oneself, aging from adolescence into adulthood, or moving on. These three stories portray journey in different ways. In The Third Bank of the River, journey is shown by the family. The importance of the father going into complete isolation represents the effects he has on his peers. There is an opposite effect from this story because the father s abandonment left a prominent mark on the family and their future. From an outside perspective, some may assume that the father would be the one who s miserable and empty, yet this story carries out the reverse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Creation Of A Utopian Civilization Essay In an imperfect world such as ours, the idea of a utopia capable of satisfying all needs and desires has been attempted to be made reality time and time again. However, few have succeeded because it is difficult if not impossible to accommodate a large population of people with varying interests. The key to maintaining a utopian civilization is ensuring that all basic needs are met in order to avoid the overthrow of the established government regulation activity. The creation of Bentopia is centered around the goal to make the most efficient society possible while still allowing citizens the freedom to choose. As the architectural committee, we strived to develop both public and personal spaces that optimize the use of space in a non wasteful manner, while also keeping in mind the climate, geographical location of our city, and environmental impact our structures have. The way we have organized houses, shopping malls, governmental and corporate buildings within our utopia is meant to maximize resources we have on hand through the division of the city into three districts. The most important considerations when creating a layout fit for a utopia fifty years into the future is offering a comfortable, sustainable lifestyle while still retaining core values of free will and equality. The practical distribution of material goods should not jeopardize basic rights that are standard within an ideal society. When first approaching the dilemma on how to allot land, the urban ... Financial Restatement Paper Financial Restatement Paper Financial Restatement Paper University of Phoenix ACC/537 After the introduction of the Sarbanes Oxley Act lots of companies have had to submit financial restatements in their financials. This paper is to examine the financial restatements that have been done by Kodiak Energy Inc. over the past several years due to incorrect reporting on the value of their stocks. Kodiak Energies paid a heavy price The shareholders were not pleased about the deception that Kodiak Energy had deceived them on and quickly showed them the repercussion of lying and stealing from them. Over the next five years, Kodiak Energies stock went from being worth $3.65 a share to a mere .10. Even though the company tied to rectify the situation with a restatement, their years of dishonesty caught up to them and they were unable to rectify their reputation by simply failing a misstatement. Kodiak Electric almost put themselves out of business by trying to steal $1,125,835 from their shareholders pockets, and reporting it as additional capital paid in to make it seem legitimate. Restatements can be helpful if they are used to explain honest mistakes. Misstatements cannot be used to cover up illegal accounting procedures. The matter of abuse of authority is prevalent in the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck illustrates that those who have power abuse it exceedingly often, as shown by Curley attacking countless others, including Lennie, a mentally disabled man, Curley s wife mistreating the men of the ranch, and Curley s wife making demeaning comments about Crooks, the African American stable buck. The Role of Fate in Romeo and Juliet Most of Shakespeare s plays are conceived around a foundation in either tragedy or comedy, this polarity of themes allowing him to experiment with the full range of human emotions. Typically, an integral part of a Shakespearean tragedy is love, which is frustrated by a breakdown in order, or the character of the hero, due to some human limitation. The play Romeo and Juliet has all these typical characteristics. However, the resultant conclusion of events for the characters in this tragedy is adversely affected by the hands of fate, and not solely the product of human limitations. Effect Of Ascorbic Acid On Vitamin B2 Chemical stability examination of vitamins B6 (Pyridoxine), vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and vitamin B2 (riboflavin) for neonatal use in parental nutrition Background Vitamins are parental nutrition (PN) constituents used to provide daily requirements and supply deficiencies in neonates. The vitamin loss in the parental nutrition bad is commonly caused by chemical degradation. The reduction thiamine and oxidation of vitamin C are the frequent reactions of chemical degradation. The vitamin C is most unstable vitamin added to parental nutrition. It is highly oxidized. Its oxidation is influenced by high temperatures and the catalysis by the oligo elements like copper. Its first degradation route is reversible and has biological activities while the remaining degradation routes are irreversible and lack biological activities. The degradation of vitamin C depends on the availability of oxygen in the medium (packaging material used). Various amino acids also affect the vitamin C stability due to its copper ions chelating and this reduces its potential which further decreases residual oxygen effect. The vitamin C end product (oxalic acid formation) possesses a toxic potential and quickly interacts with free available calcium ions thereby initiating calcium oxalate precipitation. Essay on Woodrow Wilson Woodrow Wilson Woodrow Wilson, 28th president of the United States (1913 21), secured a legislative program of progressive domestic reform, guided his country during WORLD WAR I, and sought a peace settlement based on high moral principles, to be guaranteed by the LEAGUE OF NATIONS. Early Life and Career Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton, Va., on Dec. 28, 1856. He was profoundly influenced by a devoutly religious household headed by his father, Joseph Ruggles Wilson, a Presbyterian minister, and his mother, Janet Woodrow Wilson, the daughter of a minister. The Princeton controversies, seen nationally as a battle between democracy and vested wealth, propelled Wilson into the political arena. George Harvey, editor of Harper s Weekly, with help from New Jersey s Democratic party bosses, persuaded Wilson to run for governor in 1910. After scoring an easy victory, he cast off his machine sponsors and launched a remarkable program of progressive legislation, including a direct primary law, antitrust laws, a corrupt practices act, a workmen s compensation act, and measures establishing a public utility commission and permitting cities to adopt the commission form of government. Success in New Jersey made him a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination. Although Wilson entered the 1912 Democratic National Convention a poor second to Speaker of the House Champ Clark, his strength increased as Clark s faded, and he won the nomination after 46 ballots. Offering a program of reform that he called the New Freedom, Wilson ran against a divided Republican party. In November, with only 42 percent of the popular vote, he won 435 electoral votes to 88 for Progressive candidate Theodore Roosevelt and 8 for the Republican candidate, President William Howard Taft. ... • 31. The Fourteenth Amendment And The National Government Essay The tenth amendment states that any power not granted to the National US government is given to the states. The tenth amendment deals with three different types of power. The three separate powers are delegated powers, reserved powers, and prohibited powers. Delegated powers are the powers assigned to the Federal government. An example would be the power to regulate commerce. The reserved powers are the powers that are granted to the states. An example would be to regulate education. The prohibited powers are the powers that are denied to the national or state government by the Constitution. An example would be that the states cannot declare war or the national government cannot make any law that respects a particular religion. The only question that is posed by the tenth amendment is whether a claimed federal power is justified. The tenth amendment helps establish federalism in the Unites States. Federalism is a type of government in which the national government and the state s share sovereignty. The 10th amendment verifies that not all power is delegated to the national government or the states. The national government has all power vested to it from the enumerated powers of the Constitution, but the states have all other powers not already given to the national government. Generally, the national government has the powers concerning the well being of all the states, while the states have the powers to solve problems that are more close to home. Consequence of the new financial environment has been rapidly declining profitability of the traditional banking activities. Thus, in a bid to survive and maintain adequate profit level in this highly competitive environment, banks have tended to take excessive risks. • 33. Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William... Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William Wordsworth William Wordsworth wrote two versions of the poem To A Butterfly, one in March, the other in April. In reading the poems, the situation presented is obviously the same, only interpreted differently and reflected differently. As Wordsworth himself said about poetry : it is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity: the emotion is contemplated till by a species of reaction the tranquillity gradually disappears. Both versions of the poem are about the memory that the sight of a butterfly brings back, not so much a memory but a feeling the poet gets upon seeing this butterfly. In the first version of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the last two lines, we learn that the memory is not of the two of them together, but primarily of his sister, Emmeline, who feared to brush the dust from off its wings. The memory seems like it should be a happy one, but the language of the beginning of the poem tells us otherwise, and we are left wondering what has happened between the memory and now. The tone of the second poem, the April poem, is quite different from that of the first. Here, the poet does not impose his own thoughts and impressions upon the butterfly, but simply observes it, and wonders about the natural life of a butterfly. He thinks of what it would be like to be a butterfly, thoughts that would put one in a fanciful mood, not a somber one. If the butterfly happened to take flight in the April poem, I think the poet would be happy about this (compare lines 7 9 of the April poem to lines 1 2 of the March poem). The next stanza is very important in differentiating between the uneasy sort of reflective mood of the March poem, because it describes the orchard ground as theirs, his and his sister s together, showing us that nothing bad has happened to her (an idea I got from the March poem). He tells the butterfly that it is welcome in their orchard whenever it would like to rest, and they would like to see him often. Just as Ovid s ages of the world degenerate into baser and baser metals, so Steinbeck s California degenerates from springtime of bounty to a harvest time of fruit rotting on the ground. This quote shows what the second world war did to the south. The Southern Renaissance and WWII also had effects on segregation and black novelists. One example of the effect the renaissance had on segregation is the period in which it emerged saw the south decidedly on the defensive in its efforts to stave off challenges to segregation (Abadie 14).
