The Good Teacher And The Successful Teachers
Teachers have one of the most important jobs in society. They are responsible for educating the future
leaders of the country. So, it is common sense to have only the most effective teachers educate them.
Unfortunately, that is not the case today. The bad teachers and the successful teachers are treated as
equals under tenure. Tenure is given to a teacher after a certain number of years and ultimately
protects them from being fired. The very first state to adopt tenure was New Jersey in 1909 and by the
mid 1900s 80 percent of k 12 teachers had tenure already. At the time tenure began as a way to protect
teachers from wrongful termination due to pregnancy, political view, race or religion, and so on. (
Making The Grade ). Essentially tenure is a continual job contract for teachers who qualify after about
three to five years. Tenure covers a wide variety of topics, most of whom can be dealt with without the
implication of a complete job secure system. In today s society, tenure has lost its value and has
morphed into something that is hurting students. Tenure puts teachers before students. That s shocking
when the sole purpose of a teacher is to educate students. Supporters of teacher tenure argue that
teachers need to be protected from criticism in order to educate students. That is not what tenure is
allowing teachers to accomplish. There are more downfalls than positives for students as tenure exists
today, so it should be abolished from school systems nationwide.

Investigating The Theories Of Trace Evidence
Trace evidence can be used to link people or objects to places, other people, or other objects. This
often serves as a starting point, or lead, for a particular line of investigation (Lothridge, 2016). Trace
evidence can include a wide variety of materials, but most commonly tested are hair, fibers, paint and
glass. Other, less frequently included items are soil, cosmetics and fire debris (Lothridge, 2016). Dr.
Edmond Locard formulated the theory that Every contact leaves a trace . This became known as
Locard s exchange principle (Lothridge, 2016). Tools such as tweezers, tape, specialized vacuums,
swabs, alternate light sources, and lasers to find and collect trace evidence. Fibers and Threads can be

If the fibers are short or few in number, and if it is possible to do so, wrap the area or the entire item
containing the fibers in paper and send the whole exhibit to the Laboratory. When fibers or threads are
recovered, always send all clothing of persons from which they might have originated to the
Laboratory for comparison purposes. When a window is damaged in a burglary, or the headlights of a
hit and run case all glass should be recovered. Shoes and clothing of a suspect or other objects
contaminated with glass should be wrapped in paper and submitted to the laboratory for examination.
Glass from different locations should be kept in different containers. All glass should be collected
because there could be more than one type present. Small glass fragments should be placed in paper
bindles, then in coin envelopes, pill boxes, or film cans which can be marked and completely sealed.
Large glass fragments can be placed in boxes. Individual pieces can be separated with cotton or tissue
to prevent breakage and damaged edges during shipment. As part of the investigation of vehicle
accidents, it may be of importance to determine whether or not a headlight or taillight was illuminated
at the time the light was broken. Recovery of the filaments is of primary importance. If recovered, it
should be placed in a paper bindle or a small pill box sealed with tape. Whether or not the large
filaments are located, all remaining

North Tower Of The World Trade Center
On September 11, 2001, at 8:45 AM, Eastern Time, American Airlines flight 111, headed from Boston
smashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York. An hour later, a second plane
crashed into the south tower at 550 miles an hour. The south tower only lasted 56 minutes, collapsing
straight down, killing thousands of people, and creating a dust cloud that sent people scurrying for
cover in the streets below. The north tower didn t last much longer, also collapsing straight down,
setting surrounding buildings ablaze with it. A third plane hit the pentagon, and a fourth plane,
destined for the white house, was retaken by passengers and crashed in a field in northern
Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people lost their lives in a single day, making the 9/11 attacks the most
deadly terrorist action in history. America, needless to say, was hurt, and enraged. On September 20,
2001, President George W. Bush declared war on terrorism in a speech to congress, saying, after
listing demands to the Taliban, If you do not hand over the terrorists, you will share in their fate. This
began a decades long fight against terrorism in the Middle East. Since 2001, Al Qaeda, the terrorist
group who carried out the 9/11 attacks has been all but vanquished. However, Al Qaeda was by no
means alone in its extremist views of Islam. Since then, other groups have risen. The most notable of
these has risen quite recently, coming to America s attention in the past 2 years. While the demands

Hard Times Mr Bounderby Analysis
Hard Times Charles Dickens is a novel set in the Industrial Revolution. Hard Times focuses on the
role of the rich during this era and their impact on the society, one example being their pride in their
success. Dickens portrays this with the character Mr. Bounderby. Mr. Bounderby is known as the
Bully of humility, he is a man who pretends to be humble but is very much the complete opposite. He
puts himself before others not caring about the outcome or consequences that may come further on
such as people belittling his success. He pays little to no attention to other people s emotional state and
the situations they may be dealing with doing this with both Stephen, Mrs.Sparsit and Louisa. He
devotes his time ensuring that others know he is almost superior and manipulates others making sure
of it. Mr. Bounderby s pride throughout the novel causes his reputation to plummet and causes people
to think very differently of him. Mr. Bounderby is very successful; he claims to be a self made man
owning a bank and factory and being very well known throughout Coketown. To become a successful
man, Mr. Bounderby explains that he grew up with his drunken grandmother after his mother had left
him. He had to educate himself in the streets and had to work up to where he is now. He uses Louisa, a
young girl who has been asked to marry Mr. Bounderby by her father and Mrs. Sparsit; his
housekeeper (someone who tends the house and makes sure others are doing their job) to brag and

Depression and Antidepressants Essay
Depression and Antidepressants
Specifically the serotonergic hypothesis and the action of Prozac
The cause of Clinical depression has long been a mystery to physicians and researchers. Many
different theories have been proposed, but no conclusive evidence has been put forth. However, most
of what we know about depression stems from the results of certain drugs which have been successful
in treating the clinically depressed. These anti depressants have led to the assumption that depression
is most likely due to a chemical imbalance (of neurotransmitters) which somehow leads to the
symptoms of depression. To try and write a paper on all the theories of depression would be endless,
as would be a study on all the different types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pertinent findings will be explained, and their implications on future anti depressants will be
addressed.
Many clinical studies have been used to suggest a role for serotonin in the propensity for depression or
suicidal tendencies. Most of these studies measured the level of serotonin in the CSF in certain
individuals. Results established a link between reduced serotonin neurotransmission and aggression,
impulsivity, depression, and suicidal tendencies. Other data, using markers in presynaptic and
postsynaptic serotonergic neurons have shown that reduction in serotonin neurotransmission is a
biochemical risk factor for suicide (1).
Other clinical studies have implicated fluoxetine s effects on serotonin neurotransmitters, based on the
fact that serotonin is synthesized from the essential amino acid tryptophan. Patients taking fluoxetine
who were in remission from major depression were given a special diet which was tryptophan free.
This rapidly decreased plasma serotonin levels, and after a short period of time (as little as 30
minutes) many of the patients began to have signs of specific depressive symptoms. Later, the
reappearance of more general depressive symptoms were observed in a majority of the patients. Thus
it was shown that fluoxetine has a profound effect on the neurotransmitter serotonin, and decreased

A University Of A Campus Statue Essay
Every day millions of people in the world are making an impact and difference that should be
recognized and honored. To continue, this is the reason why there are so many statues in the world,
including in art museums, in libraries, and even on the campuses of colleges, to show forth the honor
and respect people have towards them for making a difference in their lives. For instance, a campus
statue represents a symbolism to an individual who has made an impact on the grounds of a college
campus that will be remembered for a life time. In this case, Columbus State University located in
Columbus, Georgia, should have a campus statue in honor of a person who brought so much life on
the premises of this college that can impact every life that steps foot here. However, there is a
possibility of four people who can represent this statue: Callie McGinnis, Robert Arnold, Walter
Richards, and William Clifford Tucker. To begin, Callie McGinnis is currently still present on Earth
and was Columbus State University s first Dean of Librarian who moved to the city of Columbus,
Georgia from New Orleans, Louisiana to work as a reference librarian on July 1, 1974 to January 5,
2010. On the other hand, Robert Arnold was a public educator/teacher for 27 years and he eventually
moved to the city of Columbus, Georgia to teach at Clover Hill Junior High School in the year of
1911. In addition, when he passed away due to health reasons, the high school was named after him,

The Limitations Of Standardized Testing Essay
The limitations of standardized testing as a rigid and narrow criterion for gauging the educational
capabilities of students in public education. The criterion for standardized testing relies on narrow
areas of knowledge that define a hierarchical imposition of intelligence testing that forces the student
to perform ion a constrained academic environment. This type of testing has become a mechanized
tool to reject the individual needs of the student in a linear testing methodology. The importance of a
more diversified and individual style of education must address the talents of the student in relation to
a broader system of education. Therefore, the problem of one size fits all in standardized testing forces
the student to take a test that generalizes educational standards in the public school system. In essence,
an analysis of the individual needs of the student define the problem of a one size fits all system of
standardize testing in modern American school system. The problem of standardized testing in the
American public system is founded on the systemic generalization of student s intelligence. These
tests are often engineered to the student through an uncreative and linear evaluation of their
knowledge base. In this manner, standardized testing only measures a small range of cognitive and
mental capabilities of the student, which often focus on writing, reading, math, and the sciences: The
obsession with raising student standardized test scores is leading

Why Do Rosemary Plants Grow Speed Than Singing
Will talking to rosemary plants cause a larger increase in the plant s growth speed than singing? It is
important for gardeners to know how to make rosemary plants grow as tall as possible because the
plant is more often used for cooking than for decoration. The anticipated outcome of the experiment
was that singing would cause a larger increase in the growth speed of the plants because of the active
genetic response all plants have to high frequency sounds, like singing. To find the answer to this
question, three rosemary plants were grown under the same circumstances, other than the sounds they
received. One of the plants was sung to everyday one of them was spoken to, and the other received
no sound at all. After one and two weeks,

The Aims and the Results of the Attempts by the Nazi...
The Aims and the Results of the Attempts by the Nazi Regime to Transform German Society
When the Nazis came to power in 1933 they began to introduce a set of ideas into the German society.
These ideas were based on the Nazi ideology, which had been outlined by Hitler in his book Mein
Kampf or My Struggle a few years earlier. This essay will examine the Nazis attempts to integrate
their ideological beliefs about youth and about women into the German society. The essay will also
assess the success of this integration.

Overall the Nazis aimed to concentrate a large majority of their resources on the conversion of the
youth to Nazi ideology. This was a key aim because the Nazis saw the youth as the future of Germany
and they wanted to have an influence over this generation. Another major aim for the Nazis was the
creation of a national racial community. This idea was known as the Volksgemeinschaft and was
central to the Nazi view of the future.
It wasn t only through youth groups that the youth were indoctrinated to the Nazi regime. The
education system was also completely geared to spreading the Nazi party propaganda. For example
the curriculum was designed around the Nazi ideology. Geography taught the boys map skills and
other skills that would be critical during a war. History taught the Nazi version of History, which was
a contrived version of events, which blamed the Jews for all of Germany s problems in the past. Even
subjects such as Maths were used by the Nazis to further their cause with lesson concentrating on the
angles of ballistics and other such material.
The Nazi views towards women were also presented in the educational system with a girls education
being divided into a number of different lessons each one of which encouraged a life at home.
Examples of these lessons include Hauswirtschaft. This involved domestic science, cooking, house

The Lotus casino
Many of the locations in the movie within the USA corresponded to a certain mythological location. A
notable example of this would include the location of the third pearl that the protagonists, Grover,
Annabeth, and Percy went to retrieve, which was set in Lotus casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. This is an
extremely significant setting, as it is named after, and therefore is based on the mythological country
of the Lotus eaters . Evidently, as they enter, they are encouraged to eat lotus cookies, presented to
them by each passing staff member. These lotus shaped cookies make them lose track of time, dulls

It is clear that the film is directed at young children and family viewers with the purpose of educating
the audience of ancient Greek mythology in a modernised, child friendly method. This is clear in the
portrayal of the gods in their common modern American apparel instead of traditional Greek
clothing(see appendix A and B). A further example of this is when Percy Jackson uses the reflective
back of an iPod for combat with Medusa, as it allowed him to view her indirectly. In mythology,
Perseus used the reflective shield of Athene for the same purpose. The switching of the shield to an
item of modern technology emphasizes the modification of Greek myths in the film. Additionally,
Hermes winged boots were portrayed as winged Converse sneakers(See appendices C and D), given to
Percy by Luke, demigod son of Hermes/Hermes archetype. Converse sneakers are extremely popular
in the most recent generations/children of the modern day world, along with iPods, so the overall
effect of this modernisation of mythology is that no piece of equipment looks out of place. Moreover,
since the mythology in this movie has been modernised, it is a great way to entertainingly educate
people about ancient Greek mythology. To conclude, the target audiences of the film determined how
it adapted and modernised mythology for entertainment, as well as educational

The Influence Of Lin Vs. Lin On Chinese Foreign Relations
In the 1839 Chinese foreign relations was based on what was good for China. If they were making
profits, everything was peachy. But if more harm was being done than good, the Chinese as Lin Zexu
says, would remove it for the world. China was very strict on Europeans living in China. Emperor
Qian only allowed Europeans that he thought in service of the dynasty to stay, and they must obey
strict rules. Europeans had to adopt Chinese dress, were forced to stay in their designated precincts ,
and were never allowed to return to or communicate with their home country. It was the respect of
these rules by the British rulers, according to Lin that China had welcomed so hospitably trade with
England for last two hundred years. But recently Lin describes a change in the English trade. He
begins to describe this group as barbarians that are interested only in profit, regardless of who they
hurt. they were taking advantage of the Chinese people, something the Chinese government saw as a
huge harm that they needed to remove.

difference to Lin between British and Chinese trade. Chinese are about profits without harm, while the
British are not able to see past the money. He even flips the situation, describing a group of people
taking advantage of the English, driving the message home with a sideways compliment. Lin tells
Queen Victoria that she is kind and benevolent so she would not wish to give unto others what [she

The American Company Called Amazon
1) Introduction In order to carry out this research, I have chosen the American company called
Amazon. It is a well known, web based international retailer which is based in Seattle, Washington. 2)
Product Description Amazon started out as a simple web auctions based service in kind to eBay, but
failed to cut into the market share. The company then became a marketplace for fixed price goods
much like an online retail website with a small collection of goods for sale. Over time it started to
develop its product line and range by supplying DVDs, CDs, software, apparel, beauty products,
groceries, health care products, kitchen supplies, jewelry, musical instruments and other items
(Mudambi and Schuff, 2010). The website was able to provide an online platform to these products.
As the company matured, it expanded its retail services and then also developed delivery services of
its products to people s doorsteps at the prescribed time. Demand and Future Outlook The basic nature
of the demand curve will always be negatively sloped as people would be willing to demand less at
higher prices and higher at lower prices. The factors which can affect the demand curve and cause it to
shift for Amazon will include number of buyers. As buyers in the market increase, the curve will shift
outwards as more people will be willing to buy at the same price. As the income of the people also
rises, they would be able to afford more products from Amazon so they will buy them shifting the
demand

Platos Forms Essay examples
I. Introduction
Purpose
I intend to show the validity of Plato s arguments about his theory of Forms. Aristotle, along with
others, cross examines Plato s proposals. Yet, I happen to see the potential of his point of view and
would like to take a deeper look into his theory. The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze the
theory of Plato s Forms from his perspective and that of several others, including Aristotle.
Topics
The topics in which I will mainly focus on will be Forms as universals, Forms as separate entities
(substances), Universe as two realities, and Forms as final causes. For the most part, the topics are
interwoven together yet I will try to separate them in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Denyer uses the example of gold in his ring, stating that the ring is composite while the gold in his
ring is incomposite. As for particulars and forms, they are in the same sense respectively. In
conclusion, Nicholas claims that quot;Plato s theory of forms is not a grotesque misunderstanding of
universals; it is a sober, intelligent, and largely true account of the elemental stuffs from which the
world is made quot; (315). In Aristotle s Metaphysics, Plato claimed that the quot;elements of the
Forms are the elements of all things quot; which filters in with Denyer s consideration of Forms being
chemical elements (Apostle 24).
Topic #2: Forms as Substances
In Aristotle s Criticism of Plato and the Academy, Heraclitean affirms the existence of Ideas (Forms).
In his argument, he refers to Ideas as separated universals. He persuaded that quot;all sensible things
are in constant flux, so that if there is to be knowledge of anything there must be apart from the
sensibles some other entities (or substances) which are stable, for there is no knowledge of the things
that are in flux quot; (186). Many who once believed in the existence of Forms as separate entities did
so because they were persuaded by Heraclitean arguments (Cherniss).
More support for Plato s theory that Forms exist as substances can also be found in Cherniss novel. It
can be assumed that Aristotle thought

to the oath of the aristocrats of upholding justice and protecting the weak, prey s on those who are in
trouble. Seizing the land of those who were below him and having nobody even question him of his
suspicious actions as Chaucer states, So great a land buyer elsewhere was none; / He would directly
buy up the estate; / His purchase, no one could invalidate (Chaucer, 320 323). This is

Science should not be seen as a collection of facts, concepts, and useful ideas about nature, or even the

examining nature. In other words, science is a method of discovering reliable knowledge about nature.
There are other ways of learning knowledge about nature; nevertheless science is the only way that
results in getting hold of of reliable knowledge. Dependable knowledge is material that has high
viewpoint of accuracy because its certainty has been defendable by a reliable technique. Reliable data
is called standard correct idea, to distinguish reliable facts from belief that is false and unjustified.

So if the market isn t affected by which way you obtain the information, why is one way illegal and
the other legal when it is the exact same information?
For example, if I overheard a conversation by a CEO (or even if the CEO told me directly) revealing a
morsel of information pertaining to their business that had not become available to the public yet, that
would be an illegal piece of information to trade on. On the other hand, if I went to that CEO s
business every day and interviewed their customers or managers and my efforts turned up the same
information, that information would be absolutely legal to trade on because it was the product of
research even though it is the same exact information that was obtained by the CEO in the first place.
Victimless Crime
There is no guarantee that there is always a victim of insider trading, more often than not, there is
actually no victim at all. When a person trades on the market, whether using legally obtained
information or illegally obtained information, they have no idea who is on the receiving end of their
trade. That person trading does not in any way have a direct impact on other people and whether or not
they are interested in buying or selling and that does not matter whether it is legally obtained
information or illegally obtained information or whether the trading party profits or loses. The person
who is initiating the trade is solely doing it

Home Mortgage Refinance Research Paper
A home mortgage refinance can be a sound financial decision in many circumstances. This is
especially the case when interest rates are attractive. There are several factors that should be
considered when making the decision to refinance; however.
When you first purchased your home and took out your mortgage, you probably looked at interest
rates, terms and fees. When you decide to take advantage of a home mortgage refinance, you need to
consider these factors as well as a few others. For example, you should take into consideration the
amount of money that is left remaining on the balance of your mortgage. This is important because
ultimately the amount of money you will be able to refinance will be based on the amount of money

If you only have five years left on your mortgage, it may not make good financial sense to refinance
because you would be extending the payment on your mortgage beyond that time frame in most cases.
Unless you are facing dire circumstances, it would usually be best to remain in the first mortgage. If;
however, you have more than five years left on your mortgage there are numerous advantages to a
home mortgage refinance including the ability to tap into your equity and lower monthly mortgage
payments.
You should also make sure you check your credit rating before you pursue refinancing your home. As
you are probably aware, your credit rating had a tremendous impact on your ability to qualify for your
first mortgage. The same can be said of a home mortgage refinance. To get the best rates possible, you
wan to make sure that your credit report is accurate.
Many people make the decision to refinance their mortgages because they are either having a difficult
financial time or they want to pay off higher interest bills with a lower interest home equity loan. A
home mortgage refinance can be a good solution which will allow you to consolidate all of those bills
into a single loan with a lower interest rate. You will be able to save money each month and then start

Mussolini Research Paper
He demonstrated great skill in winning over a valuable ally. Discuss this view of Mussolini s policy
towards the Roman Catholic Church.
Mussolini did demonstrate his political skills in winning over a valuable ally through establishing
mutually beneficial policies that allowed the state to cooperate with the Roman Catholic Church.
However, in consideration of not just early successes and the settlement of the Roman question , but
also the policies he introduced after 1929 as well as the anti Jewish laws, ultimately, Mussolini
demonstrated pragmatism rather than pure political skill. With policies that accommodated both
parties, he should not be considered as solely responsible for this relationship, especially since he did

The anti Jewish law passed in 1938 was condemned by the Catholic Church, which issued a formal
letter of protest to Mussolini. Clearly, this policy was not advantageous to the relationship between the
state and the Church, and upset the balance that was previously established. However, this may be
explained by the fact that Mussolini s end goal was never to form strong ties with the Church, but to
gain the support of the majority of Italians who were Catholic. As his policies, foreign policy in
particular, was drawn to an alliance with Germany, he acted in the interest of this relationship, which
he deemed to be strategically valuable for fascist rule. Consequently, Mussolini weakened his ties with
the Church, and of course in this case, he did not demonstrate great skill in maintaining cordial
relations. At the same time, Mussolini still showed the pragmatism that characterised his leadership,
for although he offended a valuable ally, he appeased another Germany. Also the fact Lateran Pact
restricted the Church s involvement in foreign policy illustrates that Mussolini had been skilful in this
arrangement. Again, this goes to show that the long term benefits prove that he had made political
decisions that were pragmatic, regardless of the offense he may have caused to the Pope.
Ultimately, while Mussolini cannot be fully credited for the cordial relationship between the Church
and the state, he did much to ensure that his regime would be given the support from a valuable ally
that the liberal government did not have. In considering both the positive and negative policies he
proposed, he proved himself to be a pragmatic leader, skilful in the way he harnessed Church support
despite his personal disdain for

The Stages Of Psychological Development
Erik Erikson is a well known psychologist one of his most well known theories is the stages of
psychological development. With Erikson s theory he takes on the idea that social events or situations
will affect a person s personality throughout one s life rather than just when they are developing in
their childhood. His big idea was about identity and how a person develops their identity, with this is
where he came up with the identity crisis and the eight stages of development. The eight stages are
trust verse mistrust, autonomy verses shame and doubt, initiative verse guilt, industry verses
inferiority, identity verses role confusion, intimacy verses isolation, generatively verses stagnation,
and ego integrity verses despair shape us as individuals and are a guideline to follow. The next main
theories of Erik Erikson is the stages of psychological development, there are eight stages that Erikson
divides development into. The first stage is trust verses mistrust which occurs during the ages of new

Rainforests Have Been Declining Rapidly over the Last Few...
Rainforests have been declining rapidly over the last few decades. There are various factors
responsible for this decline, resulting in serious impacts on the environment and the economy.
Critically discuss the causes of deforestation and solutions to it. Deforestation is the cutting down of a
large area of trees and the destruction of forests by people. Forests are what we call an exhaustible
resource, one which can be used up if it is not used carefully. Over the last few decades, deforestation
has threatened the rainforests with total extinction. To understand why deforestation is such an
important issue, you first have to understand why trees matter. Trees improve in many ways the life of

In his concept, Adam Smith explains that in a free market no regulation of any type would be needed
to ensure that the mutually beneficial exchange of goods and services can take place, since the

Many private agents, according to these studies, have no interest in maintaining the forest s beauty and
biodiversity, as services provided by forests are benefits that cannot be priced, so are not profit
making.
Another factor precipitating deforestation appears to be poverty. Commonly held views argue that
high discount rates received by poor countries are a cause of deforestation (The World Bank Forestry
Policy 1991, Pearce and Watford 1993.). Because forests imply long gestation; private agents,
particularly from the poorest countries, value what they can get immediately from forests more than
what they can get in the future. But in 1999, Ekbom and Bojo challenged those views in a World Bank
examination by showing that poverty does not necessarily lead to shorter time horizons and an
increased rate of environmental degradation. They show how in fact the rural poor have used
resources in a conservationist manner over a long period spanning centuries. Ostrom (1990), one of
the various analysts they quoted, established a number of conditions that would lead to long term use

Analysis Of Human Family By Maya Angelou
Human Family by Maya Angelou
Juxtaposition: When two topics that are brought up together, contrast to bring out the differences in
them
Example: I note the obvious differences in the human family... But we are more alike than we are
unalike Human Family, Maya Angelou, 1 2 and 35 36.
Function: The speaker points out all the ways that, as humans, we are different. The way we act, the
way we look, the ways we are amused, etc. They talk of how they once traveled the world and saw all
the differences in everyone, yet in those differences, found out we are more alike than set apart. As
they note that there are differences in the beginning of the poem, there is contrast in the idea that we
are all more alike than unalike. We think that the speaker is simply going to tell us how we are all the
same, but they begins by pointing out that we aren t. That causes the reader to think deeper into the
meaning and what it means if the speaker knows we are all different and unique. This juxtaposition
helps the poem as it brings up all the things the reader would be thinking in their brains if it had
simply said that we are all the same. The speaker states that it is fact we are all different, but when
looked at on a deeper level, we all share the same emotions and are very similar.
Alzheimer s by Kelly Cherry
Imagery: The description of an event, object, or person that is so in depth that the reader can picture it
in their minds.
Example: He remembers it as his, remembers the walkway he built between the front room ad the
garage, the rhododendron he planted in the back, the car he used to drive Alzheimer s, Kelly Cherry,
14 17.
Function: A man with Alzheimers is just arriving home for the first time after being in the hospital. He
is welcomed by, what we assume to be, his wife. As he arrives at the door he begins to think and
remember the vivid memories he has in this house. This imagery shows the reader that the man,
although he has alzheimers, can still remember the house he built and everything about where he
lived. He also talks earlier in the poem about the weather

Essay How to Tame a Wild Tongue
Natalie Gonzalez 3/14/2007 Gloria Anzaldua, author of the article How to tame a Wild Tongue ,
expresses very strong views on how she feels her native Chicano Spanish language needs to be
preserved in order to maintain cultural unity when used as a private form of communication. Her
statement, for a people who cannot identify with either standard (formal, Castilian) Spanish, nor
standard English, what recourse is left to them but to create their own language? suggests that despite
the societal pressures of needing to learn more formal and ‘properly accepted English and Spanish,

The English language is universal. It has very set rules, forms and functions. The Chicano language at
best represents a personal story, a private communication that is not understandable or even acceptable
by non chicanos. By contrast, Richard Rodriquez, in his article entitled Aria , strongly believes in
surrendering to learning the proper English language, despite how strongly he feels his native tongue
is a private language that once functioned to unite his family. Rodriguez creates a division of a public
and a private discourse. He feels that he has a ‘right to learn the public language of los gringos . He
creates a visual clash of two worlds: a public world as represented by school and the need to learn
English; and a private world as represented by his family and the use of Spanish within the home. He
feels that in order to adapt and create assimilation that he needs to abandon the comfort of using
Spanish to communicate and force himself to learn English – even if it meant alienating his family
members. He does not believe as Anzaluda does that you have to create your own language if you
cannot identify with more formal forms of acceptance. Although he admits it is heartbreaking to have
shared fewer words with his parents because of the language barrier, he thinks his choice in learning
and practicing English was necessary. In fact, the more he learned

American Diplomacy That Kissinger Notes And What Makes...

U.S. History Introductory Paper
August 31, 2015
In this paper I will be answering the following questions. What are the inherent tensions in American
Diplomacy that Kissinger notes and what makes American diplomatic history unique? To what extent
would you define yourself as a realist or an idealist in regards to American foreign policy? What
unique factors contribute to American expansionism and isolationism? The inherent tensions in
American diplomacy, in the twentieth century, that Kissinger notes, are foreign policy, the balance of
power system, and the conflicts and ideas of Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt. Foreign
policy was a tension in American diplomacy because America had two conflicting stances towards
foreign policy. The first stance was the fact that they thought it was best to perfect democracy in
America, and then just act as an example to the rest of the world. The second stance as Kissinger
states is that America s values impose on it an obligation to crusade for them around the world. In
short America wavered between a tough decision of isolationism and commitment. Also the balance of
power system was a tension in American Diplomacy because it was a big issue in foreign policy. The
balance of power system s goal was not peace, but to maintain stability and moderation. This meant
that the system would not satisfy everybody involved, it worked because dissatisfaction wasn t so high
that somebody would

Heroic Statements In Beowulf
The Anglo Saxon story of Beowulf shows considerable heroic statements. Beowulf was an admirable
hero that everyone looked up to, much like modern heroes today like, Spiderman and Batman.
Beowulf was thought of as a strong character that was virtually flawless. Everyone that went up
against him failed. There are many things that separate him from an everyday hero, and there is much
that is alike between the two. Beowulf, prince of the Geats, and their strongest warrior, was called
upon by the Dane s to help them stop a raging beast from eating their own (Snell). This caused him to
leave his country to aid the Dane s in defeating a monster named Grendel. In the battle between
Grendel and himself, Beowulf decided against using weapons besides his bare hands. This showed
both strength and determination to prove himself as the greatest warrior in the lands. After beating
Grendel by ripping his arm off, Grendel s mother sought revenge for the loss of her ... Show more

Everybody has one, and one person s hero could be another s everyday person. Thomas A. Barron has
this to say, If heroes show us anything, it s how to become our best selves. But when we ask why
people become heroic, nobody has an answer. In short, heroic and egotistical impulses can arrive at
the same moment. But can we choose between them? (Cloud). It is very hard to know when something
is egotistical or when something is supposed to be heroic. Everybody has different reasons for doing
different things. Whether or not a man saving a cat from a tree is a form of heroism or a form of
manipulation for money, is only something they would know. Being a hero is about more than helping
someone out, being a hero is going above and beyond for someone you might not even know. If
heroes show us anything, it s how to become our best selves. They may do great things for the world,
but to many of my readers the true mark of a hero is someone who inspires and motivates others to do
their best.

There are many movies that make the contrast of the lives of prisoners and their guards. So often do
we see a colorful group of people who struggle under the control of a tyrannical leader, struggling to
keep both their spirits and sanity up. Cool Hand Luke is not an exception to these films. However, it
does contain a main character with a nonchalant type attitude that irks his superiors and earns respect
from his fellow prisoners, which is not often seen. This leads to him becoming a very popular
character in the prison, specifically to his new admirer Dragline. Dragline the former head honcho

The nurse s most prominent qualities are that she is more casual in her manner of speaking and makes

1. LITERATURE REVIEW
This literature review explores the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty
and how do these theories affect businesses in hospitality industry. Hence, there are many researchers
that have studied about these two concepts that will help people to better understand about the two
theories.
Why does customer satisfaction is very important in business? This is because all businesses need
customers and if the customer is satisfied with the item he or she bought, it will help to increase the
market of the business itself. As that particular customer will help to try and promote the products to
their relatives or friends. Customer satisfaction basically is the key objective in service operations
representing an affective self evaluation based on price and quality trades off (Roest and Pieters,1997).

fairness (Oliver and Swan,1989), expectancy disconfirmation (Oliver and Burke, 1999), need
fulfilment (Oliver, 1995), and price acceptance or desire to pay (Huber et al., 2000). This

Symbols And Metaphors Of Oedipus The King
The story of Oedipus the King have many symbols and metaphors that can be interpreted differently
from person to person. There are many metaphors that are used as symbols in Oedipus the King,
which includes sight and blindness, self affliction, and the three way crossroad. These are the three
main symbols that were used in the story, and sight means knowledge, self affliction stems from a
sense of guilt, and the three way crossroad stands for decisions.
The symbol of vision is a big component of the story of Oedipus. There are several situations where
vision is presented in this story and it is a symbol of knowledge. The blind man that told Oedipus that
he would kill his father had knowledge about something that Oedipus did not. Although the blind man
could not visually see, he had knowledge that allowed him to see Oedipus future through a prophecy.
Oedipus had the ability to see and was warned by others and did not take the advice that was offered
by others. As a result, he cut his eyes out because of the awful things that he did.
The use of blindness and sight was a symbol that was used throughout the story. Some of the
characters lacked the ability to see, but they had the knowledge instead. Although Tiresias was blind,
he could see more about reality than most of the other characters. He was compensated for being blind
with his gift of prophecy. Oedipus has excellent vision, but is blind to the truth because he does not
accept the words of the prophet. He

Essay about Domestic vs International Adoption
In today s society, the idea of adoption is an open and welcome one. However, the biggest decision in
adoption today is whether to adopt domestically or internationally. There is a very large growing trend
in international adoptions today. Compared to adoption rates in 1987, in 2004 international adoptions
had risen over 200% as compared to an 8% rise in domestic adoptions. After World War II,
international adoptions began to rise because Americans began adopting European and Japanese war
orphans. However, this was not the only reason for international adoptions. Desperate poverty and
social upheaval such as the one child law in China, are factors that have led others to adopt from Latin
America and China. Also, after the Child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, a couple must realize that in both international and domestic adoptions, there is a risk of the
adoption not working out. In a domestic adoption, birth mothers can change their mind until they sign
the legal paperwork. Each state varies on their time frames a birth mother can sign her paperwork,
however most states allow the birth mother to sign 48 72 hours after the baby is born. From that point
on, in most states, the birth mother cannot change her mind. In international adoptions countries can

You could be interested in adopting a certain child and it is not uncommon for the orphanage to
promise this child to several agencies. The orphanage s goal is to place the children as soon as
possible. On the plus side though, international adoptions are more lenient on who they let adopt. This
can be a positive for many couples wanting to adopt that are not allowed to adopt domestically.
Specifically, homosexual couples are welcomed in international adoptions, yet in some states are not
legally allowed to adopt. Also, there are age restrictions for parents over the age of forty that do not
apply for international adoption. One of the biggest factors couples consider, especially concerning
international adoptions is the idea of travel. In a domestic adoption only

to show national pride, economic gains and, most importantly, make history (Wendel Flora, 3).
However, some people believe that the Olympics cost too much money and countries are taking
money away from their people and making the country/people go poor. If those countries are ... Show

According to the article, During the Berlin 1936 Olympics, Hitler planned to show the world that the
Aryan people were the dominant race. Jesse Owens, an African American...proved him wrong and
sealed his place in Olympic history by becoming the most successful athlete of those games (Wendel
Flora, 4)The chance for Olympians to move around the world and prove to people who don t believe
in them, or in this case, their race, the Olympics is the place to prove it. Jesse Owens proved to
HITLER that the Aryan people were not the dominant race. For Olympians, the chance to prove
themselves and their country, culture, customs, race, etc., is something that Olympians and even
citizens of their countries, or others, take pride in. For this reason, the Olympics can not stay in the

Pros And Cons Of Augmented Reality
In this technology era, Augmented Reality (AR) was created to fulfil human curiosity about exploring
beyond the reality. Humans build up the experiences of a real world based on the responses from sense
organs, such as eyes, ears, nose and hands. By replacing real images, using sound and tactility with
computer generated illusions, augmented reality offers us a new way to interact with the physical
world. It creates an altered version of our reality, which is refined with digital information, on the
screen of your own computer or mobile devices. Merging and combining the virtual and the real, it
can create a totally new range of experiences for the users. Nowadays augmented reality have been
adopted in the fields of military, medical, entertainment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the school, we can use augmented reality to create active learning experiences hitherto
inconceivable and redefine the learning space. One of the application, Aurasma app allow user to
create augmented reality experiences of their own. For example, students can scan a page of their
works, the page can reveal a video of their teacher helping them solve a problem. Other than that, it is

The Danger of Nuclear Weapons versus the Necessity of...
Nuclear weapons continue to present a real threat to humanity and other life on Earth. Scholars of
international relations and policymakers share in the belief that the sheer power and destructiveness of
nuclear weapons prevent them from being used by friends and foes alike. Then the real question
becomes; what is the need for nuclear weapons? Nuclear weapons are defined as, volatile device that
originates its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission or a combination of fission and
fusion. Both reactions release massive amounts of energy from fairly small amounts of matter.
Nuclear weapons have greatly changed the way war is fought. Along with these more dominant
weapons come ways to control and countermeasure such power. ... Show more content on

So this then is the dilemma: directly and indirectly, both strength and weakness of a county can upset
the balance of security and the status quo in international relations. With the development of nuclear
weapons becoming more and more common, could lead to countries wanting to achieve an advantage
over other. Syria s recent development and controversial testing of biological weapons being a perfect
example. This then begins a never ending cycle for power. This can possibly lead to countries getting
rid of the competition. Luckily no country wants to be the first to start a nuclear holocaust. I am in
favor of both nuclear disarmament and stricter nuclear arms control. It s hard to trust so much power
in the hands of mere man. I am in favor of nuclear energy because of the reliability a few tons of
radioactive can produce the same amount of energy as hundreds of tons of coal, fossil fuels or natural
gas. So significantly less energy is expended on its transport to reactors. Also there is an increase in
efficiency when it comes to the usage of nuclear energy. Small amounts can give power to city for a
longer period of time in comparison to other convention energy sources. However in my mind the
negative aspects outweigh the positive benefits. Nuclear weapons aren t very precise weapons; they do
not attack the desired party. However nuclear weapons are destructive forces that annihilate anything
within the blast radius. Unlike conventional weapons,

Seven Steps to Solving the Housing Crisis
The crisis that America has found herself in, to be completely blunt and honest, all revolves around
stupidity and bad choices. American citizens that had absolutely no business even thinking of buying a
house flooded the market and were encouraged by greedy bankers that were out to make a profit,
without thinking of the consequences or morals involved. Now the government has over stepped their
boundaries and are spending this country into such deep debt, which makes one think that that light at
the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train with no hope of slowing down, let alone stopping. The
solution to this economic crisis is outlined in seven easy baby steps: 1. America needs to create a small
emergency fund (at least a million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Houses would be paid for, jobs would open up, the stock market would probably not shift as much as
it does, welfare programs would become obsolete, over 70% of Americans would stop living pay
check to pay check, and everyone would retire with dignity. Everyone could get themselves educated,
which would make us all winners, and broke people would stop buying houses that they can t afford.
If everyone bought houses that they could afford then there would be no more foreclosures; especially
if everyone had an emergency fund to give them an alternative if something happened. If businesses
weren t built on debt, especially sole proprietorships, then businesses wouldn t have to lay a bunch of
people off or cut down productivity. America needs to save to help take care of her people and
Americans need to take care of themselves so that we all win in the end.
Lastly, America needs to build a bunch of wealth and give a bunch of it away. This concept is for the
government and her people because when one gives and it becomes a habit, that person is forever
changed. It reminds them that it s not all about them. It s not about getting a bunch of stuff that they
can t afford to impress people that they don t even like. It s about taking care of your neighbor; it s
about being a selfless person and nation in a selfless world. America needs to invest in herself again,
because the best invest one

Sugarlands Visitor Center Essay
Day 1 Sugarlands Visitor Center, Elkmont Campground, Abrams Trail, and Abrams Falls First, I
watched a twenty minute documentary film about the history of the mountains including wildlife and
nature that I might encounter, plus activities that are offered in the park. Next, I browsed the
interactive museum that had stunning authentic wildlife displays, with native plants. Ranger Sam
answered my questions, advised me on wildlife sightings, and offered valuable suggestions on places
to visit within the park. The bookstore displayed interesting books, maps, badges, post cards, and had
a variety of gifts. The Sugarlands Visitor Center offers a wealth of information, leaving you with a
passion to explore all the park s mountainous terrain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Entering at Cades Cove, I hiked down the narrow muddy trail through the forest listening for the
sounds of rushing water. The cold crystal clear water flowed effortlessly over the smooth rocks and
the air was quite refreshing. Carefully, I made my way down stream watching my footing, while
admiring the spectacular scenery. The remoteness of the area provided solitude and the quiet stillness
was relaxing. As the sun beamed overhead, I caught a glimpse of a large dark fish with a light yellow
back and light spots, a brook trout. Moving about I cast my line in the distance and was patient as the
brilliant rainbow trout with it silvery sides, bluish green backs, black spots, and bright pink bands
shined in the sun s rays. I lost track of time in the peaceful environment, and after several hours, I had
my quota of five trout over seven inches, a successful day for any angler. Then, I headed to the
campsite to freshen up and then hurried off for horseback riding at Sugarland Riding

  • 2. The Good Teacher And The Successful Teachers Teachers have one of the most important jobs in society. They are responsible for educating the future leaders of the country. So, it is common sense to have only the most effective teachers educate them. Unfortunately, that is not the case today. The bad teachers and the successful teachers are treated as equals under tenure. Tenure is given to a teacher after a certain number of years and ultimately protects them from being fired. The very first state to adopt tenure was New Jersey in 1909 and by the mid 1900s 80 percent of k 12 teachers had tenure already. At the time tenure began as a way to protect teachers from wrongful termination due to pregnancy, political view, race or religion, and so on. ( Making The Grade ). Essentially tenure is a continual job contract for teachers who qualify after about three to five years. Tenure covers a wide variety of topics, most of whom can be dealt with without the implication of a complete job secure system. In today s society, tenure has lost its value and has morphed into something that is hurting students. Tenure puts teachers before students. That s shocking when the sole purpose of a teacher is to educate students. Supporters of teacher tenure argue that teachers need to be protected from criticism in order to educate students. That is not what tenure is allowing teachers to accomplish. There are more downfalls than positives for students as tenure exists today, so it should be abolished from school systems nationwide. ... A third plane hit the pentagon, and a fourth plane, destined for the white house, was retaken by passengers and crashed in a field in northern Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people lost their lives in a single day, making the 9/11 attacks the most deadly terrorist action in history. America, needless to say, was hurt, and enraged. On September 20, 2001, President George W. Hard Times focuses on the role of the rich during this era and their impact on the society, one example being their pride in their success. Dickens portrays this with the character Mr. Bounderby. Mr. Bounderby is known as the Bully of humility, he is a man who pretends to be humble but is very much the complete opposite. He puts himself before others not caring about the outcome or consequences that may come further on such as people belittling his success. He pays little to no attention to other people s emotional state and the situations they may be dealing with doing this with both Stephen, Mrs.Sparsit and Louisa. He devotes his time ensuring that others know he is almost superior and manipulates others making sure of it. Mr. Bounderby s pride throughout the novel causes his reputation to plummet and causes people to think very differently of him. Mr. Bounderby is very successful; he claims to be a self made man owning a bank and factory and being very well known throughout Coketown. To become a successful man, Mr. Bounderby explains that he grew up with his drunken grandmother after his mother had left him. He had to educate himself in the streets and had to work up to where he is now. Depression and Antidepressants Essay Depression and Antidepressants Specifically the serotonergic hypothesis and the action of Prozac The cause of Clinical depression has long been a mystery to physicians and researchers. Many different theories have been proposed, but no conclusive evidence has been put forth. However, most of what we know about depression stems from the results of certain drugs which have been successful in treating the clinically depressed. These anti depressants have led to the assumption that depression is most likely due to a chemical imbalance (of neurotransmitters) which somehow leads to the symptoms of depression. The pertinent findings will be explained, and their implications on future anti depressants will be addressed. Many clinical studies have been used to suggest a role for serotonin in the propensity for depression or suicidal tendencies. Most of these studies measured the level of serotonin in the CSF in certain individuals. Results established a link between reduced serotonin neurotransmission and aggression, impulsivity, depression, and suicidal tendencies. Other data, using markers in presynaptic and postsynaptic serotonergic neurons have shown that reduction in serotonin neurotransmission is a biochemical risk factor for suicide (1). Other clinical studies have implicated fluoxetine s effects on serotonin neurotransmitters, based on the fact that serotonin is synthesized from the essential amino acid tryptophan. Patients taking fluoxetine who were in remission from major depression were given a special diet which was tryptophan free. This rapidly decreased plasma serotonin levels, and after a short period of time (as little as 30 minutes) many of the patients began to have signs of specific depressive symptoms. Later, the reappearance of more general depressive symptoms were observed in a majority of the patients. Thus it was shown that fluoxetine has a profound effect on the neurotransmitter serotonin, and decreased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To continue, this is the reason why there are so many statues in the world, including in art museums, in libraries, and even on the campuses of colleges, to show forth the honor and respect people have towards them for making a difference in their lives. For instance, a campus statue represents a symbolism to an individual who has made an impact on the grounds of a college campus that will be remembered for a life time. The criterion for standardized testing relies on narrow areas of knowledge that define a hierarchical imposition of intelligence testing that forces the student to perform ion a constrained academic environment. This type of testing has become a mechanized tool to reject the individual needs of the student in a linear testing methodology. The importance of a more diversified and individual style of education must address the talents of the student in relation to a broader system of education. Therefore, the problem of one size fits all in standardized testing forces the student to take a test that generalizes educational standards in the public school system. In essence, an analysis of the individual needs of the student define the problem of a one size fits all system of standardize testing in modern American school system. The problem of standardized testing in the American public system is founded on the systemic generalization of student s intelligence. These tests are often engineered to the student through an uncreative and linear evaluation of their knowledge base. In this manner, standardized testing only measures a small range of cognitive and mental capabilities of the student, which often focus on writing, reading, math, and the sciences: The obsession with raising student standardized test scores is leading ... On the other hand, if I went to that CEO s business every day and interviewed their customers or managers and my efforts turned up the same information, that information would be absolutely legal to trade on because it was the product of research even though it is the same exact information that was obtained by the CEO in the first place. Victimless Crime There is no guarantee that there is always a victim of insider trading, more often than not, there is actually no victim at all. When a person trades on the market, whether using legally obtained information or illegally obtained information, they have no idea who is on the receiving end of their trade. That person trading does not in any way have a direct impact on other people and whether or not they are interested in buying or selling and that does not matter whether it is legally obtained information or illegally obtained information or whether the trading party profits or loses. Mussolini did demonstrate his political skills in winning over a valuable ally through establishing mutually beneficial policies that allowed the state to cooperate with the Roman Catholic Church. However, in consideration of not just early successes and the settlement of the Roman question , but also the policies he introduced after 1929 as well as the anti Jewish laws, ultimately, Mussolini demonstrated pragmatism rather than pure political skill. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The anti Jewish law passed in 1938 was condemned by the Catholic Church, which issued a formal letter of protest to Mussolini. Clearly, this policy was not advantageous to the relationship between the state and the Church, and upset the balance that was previously established. However, this may be explained by the fact that Mussolini s end goal was never to form strong ties with the Church, but to gain the support of the majority of Italians who were Catholic. As his policies, foreign policy in particular, was drawn to an alliance with Germany, he acted in the interest of this relationship, which he deemed to be strategically valuable for fascist rule. Consequently, Mussolini weakened his ties with the Church, and of course in this case, he did not demonstrate great skill in maintaining cordial relations. At the same time, Mussolini still showed the pragmatism that characterised his leadership, for although he offended a valuable ally, he appeased another Germany. Also the fact Lateran Pact restricted the Church s involvement in foreign policy illustrates that Mussolini had been skilful in this arrangement. Again, this goes to show that the long term benefits prove that he had made political decisions that were pragmatic, regardless of the offense he may have caused to the Pope. Ultimately, while Mussolini cannot be fully credited for the cordial relationship between the Church and the state, he did much to ensure that his regime would be given the support from a valuable ally that the liberal government did not have. In considering both the positive and negative policies he proposed, he proved himself to be a pragmatic leader, skilful in the way he harnessed Church support despite his personal disdain for ... Another factor precipitating deforestation appears to be poverty. Commonly held views argue that high discount rates received by poor countries are a cause of deforestation (The World Bank Forestry Policy 1991, Pearce and Watford 1993.). Analysis Of Human Family By Maya Angelou Human Family by Maya Angelou Juxtaposition: When two topics that are brought up together, contrast to bring out the differences in them Example: I note the obvious differences in the human family... But we are more alike than we are unalike Human Family, Maya Angelou, 1 2 and 35 36. Function: The speaker points out all the ways that, as humans, we are different. The way we act, the way we look, the ways we are amused, etc. They talk of how they once traveled the world and saw all the differences in everyone, yet in those differences, found out we are more alike than set apart. As they note that there are differences in the beginning of the poem, there is contrast in the idea that we are all more alike than unalike. We think that the speaker is simply going to tell us how we are all the same, but they begins by pointing out that we aren t. That causes the reader to think deeper into the meaning and what it means if the speaker knows we are all different and unique. This juxtaposition helps the poem as it brings up all the things the reader would be thinking in their brains if it had simply said that we are all the same. The speaker states that it is fact we are all different, but when looked at on a deeper level, we all share the same emotions and are very similar. Function: A man with Alzheimers is just arriving home for the first time after being in the hospital. He is welcomed by, what we assume to be, his wife. As he arrives at the door he begins to think and remember the vivid memories he has in this house. This imagery shows the reader that the man, although he has alzheimers, can still remember the house he built and everything about where he lived. By contrast, Richard Rodriquez, in his article entitled Aria , strongly believes in surrendering to learning the proper English language, despite how strongly he feels his native tongue is a private language that once functioned to unite his family. Rodriguez creates a division of a public and a private discourse. He feels that he has a ‘right to learn the public language of los gringos . He creates a visual clash of two worlds: a public world as represented by school and the need to learn English; and a private world as represented by his family and the use of Spanish within the home. He feels that in order to adapt and create assimilation that he needs to abandon the comfort of using Spanish to communicate and force himself to learn English – even if it meant alienating his family members. Khalil Akil U.S. History Since 1877 U.S. History Introductory Paper August 31, 2015 In this paper I will be answering the following questions. What are the inherent tensions in American Diplomacy that Kissinger notes and what makes American diplomatic history unique? To what extent would you define yourself as a realist or an idealist in regards to American foreign policy? What unique factors contribute to American expansionism and isolationism? The inherent tensions in American diplomacy, in the twentieth century, that Kissinger notes, are foreign policy, the balance of power system, and the conflicts and ideas of Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt. Foreign policy was a tension in American diplomacy because America had two conflicting stances towards foreign policy. The first stance was the fact that they thought it was best to perfect democracy in America, and then just act as an example to the rest of the world. The second stance as Kissinger states is that America s values impose on it an obligation to crusade for them around the world. In short America wavered between a tough decision of isolationism and commitment. Also the balance of power system was a tension in American Diplomacy because it was a big issue in foreign policy. The balance of power system s goal was not peace, but to maintain stability and moderation. Beowulf, prince of the Geats, and their strongest warrior, was called upon by the Dane s to help them stop a raging beast from eating their own (Snell). This caused him to leave his country to aid the Dane s in defeating a monster named Grendel. In the battle between Grendel and himself, Beowulf decided against using weapons besides his bare hands. Nuclear weapons are defined as, volatile device that originates its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission or a combination of fission and fusion. Syria s recent development and controversial testing of biological weapons being a perfect example. This then begins a never ending cycle for power. This can possibly lead to countries getting rid of the competition. Luckily no country wants to be the first to start a nuclear holocaust. I am in favor of both nuclear disarmament and stricter nuclear arms control. It s hard to trust so much power in the hands of mere man. I am in favor of nuclear energy because of the reliability a few tons of radioactive can produce the same amount of energy as hundreds of tons of coal, fossil fuels or natural gas. So significantly less energy is expended on its transport to reactors. Also there is an increase in efficiency when it comes to the usage of nuclear energy. Small amounts can give power to city for a longer period of time in comparison to other convention energy sources. However in my mind the negative aspects outweigh the positive benefits. Nuclear weapons aren t very precise weapons; they do not attack the desired party. However nuclear weapons are destructive forces that annihilate anything within the blast radius.
