c. Conducting Research
This is perhaps the most important step in the research paper writing process. Your research not only
provides you ethos as a writer by revealing your knowledge and understanding of the topic, but also
will very likely shape both your understanding and interpretation of the topic. Listed below are several
important tips for conducting research and notetaking: * In order to avoid later confusion, begin each
section by recording the author s name, book or article title, and page numbers (if relevant). * As you
examine each source, record important or unique notions which you may wish to incorporate within
your paper. Make certain to outline the general arguments of each source by including a descriptive
heading after the citation. This will aid you in more quickly and easily distinguishing between sources
in the future. Additionally, it may be useful to group sources into categories based on more refined
topics. * In order to diminish the risk of plagiarizing, do NOT directly lift phrasing or entire segments
of the text from sources without properly indicating that you have done so. If you find it necessary to
directly quote an author, clearly indicate what has been copied from the author and record the page
number on which this information can be found. * Remain critical of your sources: Do not assume that
an idea or criticism is valid, because it appears in the argument of a single critic or even multiple

York; Oxford: Oxford University Press; 2016.
Abina Mansah: An Overlooked History Abina Mansah, like many other women in her time, was a
young Akan woman who was wrongfully enslaved by her captors. Although slavery was made illegal
in 1875, many important men continued to seize youthful slaves female ones in particular, because
they were less likely to run away and seek liberation. Despite this, Abina refused to be a slave under
the authority of her master, Quamina Eddoo. With the help of court interpreter James Davis, she
attempted to force the court system to hear her voice. Young enslaved women like Abina are often
talked about in history, but never the ones to write historical documents themselves. Their voices are
hidden beneath the voices of important men, and this left women like Abina frustrated and angry. As a
student of the history of gender, Abina s story and her initiative to challenge the authority others had
over her shows us the importance of being heard, and how young women s expressions are often
disregarded and deemed less significant than those of important men.
The first element of Abina s story that depicts Abina s desire to be heard and how her voice was buried
under an Important Man s was the case in court. Quamina Eddoo, Abina s master who had purchased
her from Yaw Awoah, was a powerful and

Hinder Social Development
Through the use of social media, we can connect with friends and family and be informed of what is
currently happening in the world. Social media can have its positives and negatives. Social
development can be interrupted because of the media. The use of social media can hinder social
development because it causes health issues, makes you feel lonely and causes anxiety.
The use of social media can hinder social development because it causes health issues. In the article,
Social Networking: Failure to Connect it states, Reports of cyber bullying, happy slapping, even self
harm and suicide attempts motivated by social networking sites have become increasingly common in
the eight years since Friendster and then Myspace, Bebo and Facebook launched. In other words,
different types of health concerns have been reported due to social media. These health issues are
caused by negativity and negligence that the media has caused. Social development is affected
because of these issues. The media makes people, especially teenagers, do things against their health

increase among some clients who use Facebook because they focus too much on how many friends
they have, worry that others aren t posting enough items on their walls or fret about what to write in
their status updates, just as they agonize over what to say in person. In other words, the media puts a
lot of stress and pressure on people. Many people stress over the small amount of friends that they
have and compare that number to other people. A lot of pressure is present of what to write on your
status. As a result, it leads to users feeling anxious (Rosenwald 3). The use of the media has led people

Age Of Adaline Analysis
Blake Lively plays the main female character, a woman who meets and loses her husband during the

Essay On Residential Care
Residential Care promotes positive behavior and attitudes to the CICL. Residential care gives out
activities through the houseparents, visitors, and volunteers. These activities are given out daily, the
children are preoccupied most of time, which leads them to momentarily disregard the opportunity to
commit deviant acts again. The activities conducted by the facilitators involves cooking, cleaning,

the effect of this activity is massive. As mentioned by Moore (2013), Housework may not be
glamorous, but it s necessary, and knowing how to do it efficiently and effectively is a life skill. Based
on the survey results, 69% of the respondents claim that they never did the activities given in the
residential care, such as cooking, cleaning, and washing among others, while the remaining 31% did
the said activities before being admitted in the residential care. The results imply that the activities
improve their skills, especially their life skills. In residential care, the children are taught how to cook,
clean and wash their clothes. These activities were not usually performed by the majority before being
admitted in the residential care. On the other hand, the skills of the minority are enhanced since they
are expected to perform these activities daily. Overall, the activities provided by the residential care

The Irrational Consumer Culture Surrounding Education
In his book Why Teach?, Mark Edmundson constructs an argument about the paradoxical consumer
culture surrounding education. The Virginian professor takes a stance on the problems that he has both
experienced in his own classroom and observed on campuses, and he approaches each problem in
turn, making significant claims which are assigned appropriate blames. His essay, Liberal Arts Lite
Entertainment, originally published in 1997, is broken into six sections and begins with his experience
at his own university before branching out to all those across the country. Following this is a
deduction of student culture as well as professors. He gives hope to the idea of the acceptance and
praising of genius (as opposed to the alienation students endorse so well) towards the end of his essay,
narrowing his argument down to a more specific change that could possibly cause a domino effect
from individual students to universities across America. The scale of the situation is much too large to
be easily fixed, and it is clear that Edmundson s purpose in writing this essay is to inform those who
are engulfed in the academic world. More specifically, it seems, he targets professors and higher level
students, and even possibly their parents. By singling out these people and making the problem of
consumer culture in universities known to those who care exponentially about educating the youth, it
is much more likely that Edmundson s argument will trickle down to said youth in the process

Analysis Of Sam Walton s Vision
In 1963, Sam Walton had a vision. A vision, that he could bring what the consumers needed, to them,
at the lowest price possible. Mr. Walton believed that a company could not be run by just one person,
it had to take team work. With Mr. Walton relying on his associates at the lowest level possible, he
created the retail empire known today as Walmart. Mr. Sam, as he was referred to, would visit each
and every store to learn about its culture. He would sit down with each and every associate and get
ideas, comments, concerns, and anything that the associates wanted to talk to him about. This practice
allowed for Walmart to create a culture of its own. A culture where each person makes a difference, no
matter what your background or life style. The cultural synergy remains the same today. This
philosophy is the basis for Walmart s slogan, Every person makes a difference. Sam Walton knew that
in order to be successful he needed to hear from everyone, to make everyone a spokesperson for the
company. Many of the ideas that have been put into play have come from the lower level associates
who never thought they could make a difference. Each associate comes from a different walk of life
and background. This leads to the diverse workforce that Walmart has today. Sam s practices have
been instilled in today s current CEO, Doug McMillion. Doug McMillion, only the fourth CEO of
Walmart since Sam stepped down in 1988, has regained the atmosphere that Sam created and has

The Cognitive Theory Of Emotion
Based on Tom s feelings of anger, the theory of emotion described in the text that best fits his feelings
at the time is cognitive appraisal theory. The cognitive appraisal theory states that if a person notices a
particular psychological response, that person has to decide what it means before he or she can feel an
emotion (Baird 195). In Tom s case, about halfway through his Milgram s experiment, his heartrate
starts increasing and he starts sweating. He then stands up angry and declares that what is going on is
wrong. He then proceeds to slam his fists on the table and say he will no longer participate. Tom s
reactions are following the cognitive appraisal theory of emotion as he first must process what he is
feeling about his heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drive reduction theory of motivation might help explain why Tom walked out. The book states
that departures from the optimal states creates drives (Baird 200). During this experiment, Tom was
removed from his optimal state as he began to sweat, his heartrate increased, he became angry, and
stated what was going on was wrong and he no longer would participate. Nonregulatory drives
involved in the drive reduction theory such as sex or social drives also might help explain why Tom
might have walked out. An example of these nonregulatory drive is a drive to preserve safety
motivates feelings of fear, anger, and even the need for sleep (Baird 200). The reason I chose this
theory of motivation to describe why Tom walked out is not only because of his removal from his
optimal state, but also because the other theories might not be able to explain why Tom left. The social
learning theory emphasizes the role of cognition in motivation and the importance of expectations in
shaping behavior (Baird 200). From the definition of the social learning theory, Tom s importance of
expectations or goals from the experiment were never introduced making it difficult to choose this
theory as we do not know what his goals were as a participant. Central state theory of motivation tries
to explain drive by understanding them as

on the facts below, one can come to the conclusion that, eyewitnesses should not be allowed to testify

Information Technology Healthcare System Applications
The World has spontaneously reduced into a tiny global village where advancement in technology has
taken the order of the day across many faculties and departments at the present. Healthcare is one of
the sections that have struggled to adapt to the new technologies in order to survive in the current
markets, which are full of competition as the major threat. In fact, the necessity for the use of
advanced technology in the health sector emanates from the demand of the clients and the
environmental constraints at hand. This paper intends to define the four major areas of Information

areas, describe the various types of private insurance, and highlight the types of reimbursement
methods under healthcare practice. Healthcare System Applications Clinical Information Systems This

How Did The Montgomery Bus Boycott Impact The Civil Rights...
Considering the history of America, there have been quite a few drastic changes both good and bad in
the past two centuries, especially for African Americans. From slavery, to unequal rights, there have
been several events in history that has created a form of unity for blacks and whites. From those
events led by Black Activist and protesters who felt that enough was enough and that it was time to
bring about a change birthed the Civil Rights Movement. Although this was not the first movement, it
was definitely one that made a lasing impact. Even more specifically the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was one of the most famous events during this protesting era. It allows
myself as well as others to question what we have been taught over the years. Although it is quite

Hamlet Appearance Vs Reality Essay
While Hamlet believes that [to] be or not to be, (Shakespeare 3.1. 64), is the question, I would argue
that a larger question exists that remains unanswered: what is? How does one differentiate between
what is real, and what is an illusion created by the depths of the mind? In The Tragedy of Hamlet,
Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare, the characters are challenged to constantly distinguish
between what is and what seems the presence of reality or appearance. Reality, in a literal sense, is the
state of things as they actually exist, (Fowler); however, it s possible that existing or not existing is
subjective. Hamlet, the protagonist and tragic hero of the play, interprets a much different reality than
the surrounding characters and devises appearances that drive others away from understanding his
truth; in turn, he is made a pawn in the illusions of others, specifically Gertrude, Claudius, and
Laertes, to the point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Laertes claims, I am justly killed with mine own treachery, (Shakespeare 5.2. 337). Laertes faces the
reality that in his own illusion, he has made himself, Gertrude, and Hamlet victims in King Claudius s

Growing up with my mother and sister and being the only male in my household definitely played a

acknowledging feelings and being strong emotionally, but that s not what makes a great doctor. I was
fortunate to go to a medical school that stressed the importance of the humanistic aspect of medicine
and instilled these principals in me. It s not womanly to care for someone and show emotion during
times of loss and it s not feminine to acknowledge a patient who is upset and comfort them. However,
approaching the patient humanistically can be difficult to accomplish while in the hospital. The

make the correct diagnosis, did I give the appropriate medications and of course did I miss something
that could be detrimental to their health? If a doctor does all of these correctly then he did a good job.

In Lies We Trust Analysis
In Lies We Trust
The 2009 romantic fantasy movie The Invention of Lying portrays a world completely devoid of
untruths, where everyone tells the truth all the time and everything said is taken at face value. Mark
Bellison, the protagonist, begins by explaining that in his world, everyone tells the entire truth, not
matter how hurtful or cruel. The audience notices a Pepsi ad with the tagline, Pepsi: when they don t
have coke, among other peculiar things. This premise is not only humorous because it is so contrary to
reality, but also unsettling, because it brings to light how frequently humans lie and are dependent on
lying, as well as how the world cannot exist without it. Indeed, although lying is often negatively
perceived, the ubiquity of it is observed all around the world, particularly in commonplace and social

The smell of freshly baked bread filled Jimin s nose as he awkwardly walked around downtown NY.
He tried to blend in with the locals, but everything he did made him stand out. He was dashingly

and the more normal he tried to walk, the more uncoordinated he looked. Jimin sighed audibly, he

The Effectiveness Of Virtual Media
The Effectiveness of Virtual Media In the world of learning nowadays, there are many ways to acquire
knowledge other than schools and teachers. Learning an instrument can take place beyond the
traditional classroom setting. As technology improves over the years, learning can take place not only
in a teacher to students setting but also from a vast amount of resources on the internet and digital
media. During the course of ten weeks, I used various online resources to learn how to play the piano
by learning how to play three different songs. So far, I have successfully learned all three songs by
watching YouTube videos and exploring piano instruction websites. During the learning process I
have encountered different challenges; some I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By practicing easy piano songs such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars and O Christmas Tree , I became
much familiarized with the position of each key and comfortable with pressing the keys without lifting
my whole hand. Needless to say, I would not be able to figure out how the piano works if I did not
receive any kind of instruction. The first thing I did was to search for YouTube videos because it is an
excellent choice to learn almost anything, not just instruments. YouTube not only teaches the viewers
by demonstrating on how to complete a particular task, but also uses videos to help the viewers
visualize what is going on. There was a variety of piano videos that were made specifically for
beginners like me. There was also variation between each videos depending on who the instructor was
and in which angle it was shot. Generally, I chose the videos that contained a well experienced
instructor instead of an amateur, and a good camera angle that clearly showed all the piano keys. After
this learning experience, I am confident that I am no longer a beginner. Although instructions from the
videos were easy to follow, there were still some challenges that I encountered during my practices
that could not be solved by the internet resources entirely. Having questions meant that I would have
to comment on the video and wait for an answer or look for a new video in order to find solution.

Tsunami And The Tsunami Of Japan
A simple slip of a tectonic plate does not sound detrimental. The result of this plate slip, a big wave
also sounds fairly innocent. However, when we see these two things come to life, it can be disastrous.
Tsunamis can travel at speeds of 500 miles per hour and it is very hard for them to lose energy.
Tsunamis retain their energy, meaning they can travel across entire oceans with very small amounts of
energy being lost. These tsunami waves can reach heights above 100 feet. Two tsunamis that stand out
from all others are the Sumatra tsunami and the Japan tsunami. Looking at these allows us to see just
how destructive tsunamis can be. On March 11, 2011 a magnitude 9 earthquake took place 100 km off
the northeast coast of Japan. This was the largest earthquake that Japan had ever encountered. In the
history of japan there has never been an earthquake above a magnitude of 8.4. Japan lies on a
boundary between the pacific plate and the North American plate, positioning the country perfectly for
natural disasters cause by tectonics. The energy behind the massive earthquake had reportedly been
building up for hundreds of years, which is what caused the massive destruction. It is also important to
note that earthquakes send off two different types of waves. The fastest waves that result from an
earthquake are known as P waves or primary waves. The slower, but much more destructive waves are
called S waves or Secondary waves which is what caused the most damage. During the 2011

Leading Change Analysis
Week Four Discussion Forum
In this week s reading assignment in the book, Leading Change, by Mr. Kotter, I gained additional
insight in regards to aligning different parts of the business to result in a better outcome.
The first concept from this week s reading that resonated with me was in the interdependence section
of Chapter 9. The author outlines a company that has clear visibility and ownership allowing the
company to control the manufacturing, sales, marketing, and development. This is an optimal solution
in order to control your quality and speed. The part that I found interesting is that not many companies
have this capability anymore because it is not fast, customer focused and less costly. Garmin is
currently set up in this manner; owning its own manufacturing facilities and having its own marketing
agency in the building. My opinion is that because of this the company can quickly turn and change it
strategies with the market. This in contrast to the authors. At least in my experience when dealing with
third party companies there is a higher cost and slower timeline to change scope with the market. Let
me know what your thoughts are on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have an fast acceptance in the market, we stuck with it in hopes that the market share would increase.
Two years later we have launched our second generation product, but we are making many of the
similar mistakes that lead to our decreased in sales from the initial product offering. I felt that
performing this technique would help me in approaching senior management with a proposed set of

Describe The Story Of Nabucco
Before Verdi wrote his opera, the story of Nabucco appeared on the Italian stage for the first time in
1819. Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published
edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the work.
The second story of Nabucco again appeared on the Italian stage, this time in the form of five act
ballet written by Antonio Cortesi and performed at La Scala in 1838. The work was written and
performed for the Coronation Season at La Scala. Commemorating the crowning of Austrian Emperor
Ferdinand as King of Lombardy and Venetia, an event that marked the high point of Austrian
domination in Italy. Temistocle Solera appears to have based his libretto to this scenario, and it was
with its scenery and costume that Marelli first staged Verdi`s opera.
The opera was based on a plot taken from the Old Testament of the Bible, Daniel 4:29 33, the story of
Zechariach and the Jews suppressed by Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar whose name for purposes of
song is reduced to Nabucco and his resentful daughter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Viewed on a more complex level, the symbolism of Nabucco offers an intricate relationship between
the characters and political events. In this view, King Nabucodonosor might represent Napoleon, and
his two daughters, one legitimate, symbolizing Italy, and another illegitimate Austria. The Babylonian
religion and the high priest of Baal, ironically represent the Pope and the Catholic Church. The
parallels between the opera`s subject matter and Italy`s situation in 1840s are easy to discern: the
opera was about a chosen nation dreaming of freedom from foreign domination, the Hebrews slaves
represented the Italians struggling against their Austrian

Does Economic Globalization Affect Interstate Military...
DOES ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION AFFECT INTERSTATE MILITARY CONFLICT?
I
Although there is still not agreement on a common definition of this phenomenon, in this paper I will
accept the one developed by R.M. Joshi (2009). He identifies, indeed, Economic Globalization as the
increasing economic integration and interdependence of national, regional and local economies across
the world through an intensification of cross border movement of goods, services, technologies and
capital
There are two good reasons, in my opinion to accept Prof. Joshi s definition. First, it contains two core
point affecting every aspect of that phenomena: Interdependence and Cross border movements.
Second, it focuses on the interaction among markets avoiding approximate expression often used in
public debate as Global Economy and Global Market that could mislead the reader, where national
states still play an important role in Economies destinies, many people are not involved in economy,
some markets still operate on a local level, transnational corporations are anyway nationally based and
we can not (still) talk about a global labour market. (Aspers and Kohl 2011).

Firearms and Their Consequences
Is the convenience of others worth the life of a single innocent? The answer of this question should
spark such a reaction that it would make it impossible to remain neutral. And as such the world should
ask the land that claims to be home of the brave; being the United States of America, what it s stance
is on gun control. Because the land of opportunity can no longer say yes to unrestricted gun sales and
no the safety of its innocents; or should only the gun owners dictate the laws in the land of
opportunity. America needs to enforce gun restrictions to save the lives of innocent people. To long
has it allowed its own civilians to dictate the worth of the life of an innocent. Should the general
consensus be to hold life to the highest value? Is it not unfathomable to allow convenience to trump
safety? Sometimes the only unbiased facts that can be stated are numbers, and here is some. Twelve,
six, twenty, and six; sure that those numbers are not significant individually but further explanation the
significance will deepen the meaning of each of numbers of these Massacres that occurred from July
to December of the same year. Twelve was the number of lives ended in July in Colorado of 2012, and
no this was not a fight, heated argument or anything even remotely close to that which statistically
speaking is the leading cause for gun violence. Under those circumstances a shooting could be
understandable; but this was a movie premier in Colorado where innocents lost their lives

Community Policing And The Police Essay
Community policing is a police procedure forced to make a superior relationship between the police
and the group. Community policing is characterized as a synergistic exertion between the police and
the group that distinguishes issues of wrongdoing and clutter and includes all components of the
Community in the look for answers for these issues. Does people group based policing achieve social
orders coveted result and desires? This is one of many inquiries we may have about the genuinely new
and disputable subject of group policing.
Community policing is maybe the most misconstrued and most of the time manhandled topic in police
administration amid this decade. In the previous couple of years, it has turned out to be in vogue for
police offices to start community policing, frequently with little thought of what that expression
implies. In reality, all way of hierarchical tinkering has been marked group policing. However, people
group policing is not a program.
Rather, people community policing is an esteem framework which saturates a police office, in which
the essential hierarchical objective is working helpfully with individual natives, gatherings of
nationals, and both open and private associations to recognize and resolve issues which possibly
impact the reasonableness of particular neighborhoods, ranges, or the city overall. Community based
police offices perceive the way that the police can t viably manage such issues alone, and must join
forces with other people

Essay On Exotic Animals
People Shouldn t Be Able To Have Exotic Animals
There are many exotic animals all over the world that live in the wild. There are many species and
some are extinct. Exotic animals are very expensive that require more than what people realize. These
animals belong in their natural habitats. It is wrong and cruel for the animals that have to live in
captivity when they are meant to live in the wild. Taking exotic animals out of the wild disrupts the
natural food chain and negatively affects natural selection. Exotic animals belong in the wild because
the reason they are exotic is because they cannot be tamed like any other pet, and if they can t be
tamed, they can become a harm to the owner and to others that the animal feel threatened by. Injury
and possibly death is likely to happen under such circumstances of the animals being neglected.
Another reason why I believe that exotic animals do not belong under human captivity as pets is
because it is harmful to the pets and the nature of them. Some animals need their families to survive
and they also need to learn to hunt in order for them to survive. Once an exotic animal becomes the
pet of someone, it becomes dependent which is unhealthy for the animal, especially if they are brought
under captivity at such an early age. Owning exotic animals as keeping them as pets should be illegal
is what I believe is right. Exotic animals kept as house pets are a hazard to the pet owners and any
other people around the

Camera Angles In Beowulf
An iconic film that has shown the generations of Anglo Saxon culture is called Beowulf, created in
2007 by Robert Zemeckis. Beowulf is the legendary warrior, he and his men set out on a journey to
Denmark to fight a battle and conquer a foreign beast. During the specific portion of the film Beowulf,
being the noble king that he is, ignored Wiglaf s word of advice to not fight as it is not a king like
thing to do. Secondly, Beowulf stood out in the scene as he removed his armor and stood tall
compared to Fin from Frisian, which represents body language. Lastly, the battle took place on the
shoreline of Denmark, close to the castle, the cinematography included the ocean with many guards
and warriors surrounding the foreign warrior. To begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beowulf arrives on the scene with along with Wiglaf right behind, and demand his soldiers to finish
the foreign warrior off quickly. Authority is shown by the specific camera angles as Beowulf is shown
in depth to the low angle shot and also the close up during their engagement between each other. With
the camera committing a close up on Beowulf it shows the buildup of an important scene coming up
and it builds the stage for the viewer. With the camera angle showing Beowulf with the low angle
shot, it resembles his appearing larger and more dominant than the opponent. His opponent was given
the high angle shot showing isolation and having a lesser importance compared to the king. An over
the shoulder camera angle was also used, the camera goes through Finn s shoulder while he is holding
his weapon up high and Beowulf s face is right in the center dominating his opponent just by verbally
speaking to him. Secondly, body language is equally important as the camera angles are, as body
language shows how a character responds to an event happening. A body has many secret meanings
and during this scene, Beowulf is seen being dominant by taking control of an escalating situation near
the shores of Denmark. Beowulf uses

Review Of The Things They Carried
JANIELLE DUMAPIT
THE THINGS THEY CARRIED ESSAY: Role of Women in the Novel The Things They Carried by
Tim O Brien contains many themes involving the impact of war, which are very prevalent in the lives
of the soldiers and Tim himself; their very being in the war influences their thoughts and actions.
Because of the nature of the war, these stories revolve around men and how their direct contact with
the war changes their lives. While it is easy for women to be omitted from a story about war,
especially the Vietnam War, O Brien still incorporates them into his. In the novel The Things They
Carried, there are very few women represented in both passing and the direct action; however, these
women are used to allow the reader to further understand major messages about war: hope and
motivation to persevere, the change that people undergo, and the general pointlessness of it.
Several women characters are not directly in the action of the novel; however, their purpose is to give
the soldiers hope, which is evident through their mementos and keepsakes. O Brien opens up the novel
with an explanation of how much Martha means to Jimmy Cross by writing, First Lieutenant Jimmy
Cross carried letters from a girl named Martha, a junior at Mount Sebastian College in New Jersey.
They were not love letters, but Lieutenant Jimmy Cross was hoping, so he kept them folded in plastic
at the bottom of his rucksack (O Brien 2). Letters, more specifically Martha s, are not only mentioned

The Symbolism Of Tunnels In Literature
Lauren Schmidt
Mr. Porter
English IV
25 September 2017
A Deeper Look: Stars, skeletons, and shadows are objects that may initially seem common and
insignificant to the plot of a novel. However, authors sometimes have a purpose behind simple objects
like these, events that occur, and/or the types of characters that are developed. When an author utilizes
a recurrent symbol, character, or situation that is an instinctual expression of man s nature and
experiences that are universal, the author is incorporating archetypes. In the novel
, author Stephen Chbosky develops several archetypes with a purpose of aiding the reader in
understanding and connecting with the novel and its characters. By including several prominent
archetypes such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this understanding, the reader is more likely to be able to relate to Charlie s adolescent
transformation or make connections with other young adult novels. The season of winter is a
prominent archetype in as well. Winter often accompanies dark, dreary, and somber times. In the
novel, Charlie hits his ultimate low point in his battle with depression in the middle of winter. He felt
that he was alone and had absolutely no one to turn to. One night shortly after New Year s, Charlie
found himself both mentally and physically lost. Suffocated by heavy thoughts, he wandered outside
and laid in the snow, only for a policeman to find him pale blue and asleep the next day, and he didn t
stop shivering from the cold until a long time after [his] mom and dad drove [him] home from the
emergency room, (Chbosky 98). The cold, snowy winter can be viewed as an archetype that affects
how the reader perceives this point in Charlie s transformation. The mood of the story, or how it
makes the reader feel, seems much more dismal because of the time of year. The reader will be able to
understand more completely how miserable of a time this was for Charlie, and he/she could
potentially relate to this feeling of loneliness. Another archetype that is present in is a hero. A hero is a
character who embarks on a journey where challenges and fears are overcome. Often times, heroes

Literature Review
The increasing focus by many policymakers and measurement experts on using statistical models to
evaluate teacher effectiveness has led to heightened debate regarding the usefulness of these methods
but little discussion of the possible sources of error inherent in value added modeling. Even the most
robust models for making high stakes decisions about teacher effectiveness contain numerous sources
of error that can lead to ill founded interpretations of the data. Both teachers and schools can be

As of 2013, 43 states measure teacher effectiveness, at least in part, through student achievement; 25
of these states are in the process of instituting entire teacher evaluation systems that rely on student
growth data to measure teacher impact (National Council on Teacher Quality, 2013).
Within the larger classification of student growth measures is value added modeling (VAM), a method
that uses a statistical model to establish a causal link between teachers and the achievement of
students within their classroom. VAMs are considered promising because, in a perfect world, they
might have the potential to promote education reform and to create a more equitable accountability
system holding teachers and schools accountable for the aspects of student learning that are
attributable to effective teaching without burdening teachers and schools with responsibility for factors
outside of their control.
Value added models are being used to evaluate teacher effectiveness in districts across the country,
including New York City and Washington, D.C. Opinion on their potential for misuse and
misinterpretation has been split, with some arguing that VAMs are inherently imprecise and ill suited
to measuring teacher effectiveness (Rothstein, 2008; Baker et al., 2010), while others posit that the
possibilities for error are minimal (Kane and

Sternberg believes that psychology can help others in their everyday lives. Sternberg conducted this
study at an APA convention where he would give the audience members three quizzes based on his
research on learning, love and conflict resolution. The exercises showed that if your style doesn t
match with the three most important levels that you are involved in you are less likely to be
successful. There first quiz was revolved around how we think and learn in the work place it contained
three levels and each person has a varying amount of each. The three levels are the legislative,
judicial, and executive and everyone has a different style due to fact that we are all different. No one
level is better than the other, but it all depends on what task is being given. Furthermore, Sternberg s
second quizzed put emphasis on how we love impacts our relationships. There are also three levels
included in Sternberg s triangular theory of love, which include intimacy, passion and commitment.
Intimacy, passion, and commitment all positively related to successful relationships. How well the
levels matched with your partner would determine the happiness of the relationship. Also, the third
quiz involved how we solve conflict. Sternberg found that the way we solve conflict is steady and
almost universal. The article proves that the Psychology is important for the basic human interaction

Analysis Of Huntington s Clash Of Civilizations Theory
Introduction
Huntington s Clash of Civilizations theory does not help with understanding the contemporary politics
and history of the Middle East. His theory is too simplistic and does not consider the complexity of the
region. Indeed, Said is correct to call Huntington s theory a clash of ignorance as one cannot gain an
understanding of the Middle East through an orientalised lens. This essay aims to show the complexity
of the history and politics of the Middle East. This will be done by looking at the history of the Middle
East, Pan Arabism and the Arab Spring. It will also consider Korany s intermestics theory as a better
theory in helping to understand the contemporary politics and history of the Middle East.

Complexity of the Middle East
History:
The history of the Middle East shows the complexity of the region. From colonialism; the Tanzimat
reforms which emphasised on minority rights and relations between Muslims and non Muslims; the
Constantinople agreement between Britain, France and Russia; the Sykes Picot; the Balfour
Declaration; the Arab revolts of June 1916 to October 1918 against Ottoman rule; the Baghdad Pact;
Nasser s diplomatic success of the 1955 Suez crisis which led him to be seen as the hero of the Arab
world; the setting up of the United Arab Republic of Egypt and Syria in February 1958 and the
overthrow of Qasim and Mosaddegh government, one can see that the history of the Middle East is
rich and complex. It cannot be understood with Huntington s simplistic label of the Middle East as
Islamic states . Korany states that the 1980 88 Iran Iraq war and Iraq s factional in fighting; Iraq s
1990 invasion of Kuwait and rising Sunni Shia rifts show Huntington s theory to be a self fulfilling
prophesy, if not a misleading conceptual lens (Korany, 2016, p. 83). This can be seen when analysing

fundamental question, what is goodness? Perspectives vary by culture, religion and from person to
person depending on countless variables. This question particularly interested the philosophers Plato
and Epicurus. Although both men had fully rational, valid, and interesting takes on the idea of
goodness, my argument is that Epicurus ideology in my opinion is the most reasonable answer. In this
essay, I will begin by explaining Epicurus hedonistic view, I will then explain why Plato dissents, and
then I will finish off by explaining why I believe Epicurus idea is more reasonable.
Hedonism the idea that pleasure is the greatest good, was the ethical theory used by Epicurus to show
us how to live a happy life. A prominent belief of his was that we needed to master our desires. To do
this, we must first understand our desires and where they come from. This means being able to look at
your desires, and understand those that are necessary for survival, for your happiness, and those which
are not necessary at all. By doing this, Epicurus would say that you will be able to make wise
decisions which will ultimately lead to a happy life.
Epicurus makes the point saying that when we judge something, let s say a car for instance, we judge
it based on how it makes us feel. Does this car give you pleasure? Does it irritate you or cause you
pain? If it does cause you pain,

The Birth Of Virtual Teams
Abstract Teams have always contributed significantly towards the successful operation of any
organization. Traditionally, team members had to endure the challenges of time, distance, and even
cultural differences in order to successfully complete a team activity. However, recent advancements
in technology have led to the birth of virtual teams. The paper aims to explore the effectiveness and
differences ofvirtual teamsas compared to face to face teams. The evaluation will be on the basis of
dimensions such as performance, cohesion, conflict, trust and satisfaction among others.
Introduction
Due to the recent increased utilization of information communication technology in organizations,
there has been a rising trend of the adoption of virtual teams. These teams have helped organizations
conduct their businesses in a very effective way. In furtherance of that, these teams have also helped in
enhancing the speed at which communication is carried out. For instance, team members in different
countries or continents can actually contribute ideas for a project in real time via electronic means
(Hendrickson, 1998). However, these groups have faced some criticisms which have made them to be
underutilized. Some of the issues raised against these teams include lack of involvement and
inclusiveness, lack of trust, lack of employees with technical and interpersonal skills and lack of
cohesion among others. Past research has revealed that virtual teams have proved to be effective,

Dollar General Mission Statement Analysis
The website www.missionstatements.com lists the mission of Dollar General as Serving Others. For
Customers, A Better Life. For Shareholders, A Superior Return. For Employees, Respect and
Opportunity. On their website, http://www2.dollargeneral.com/About Us/pages/mission profile.aspx,
Dollar General shortens that to just Serving Others, however, navigating the website shows that Dollar
General does work to incorporate the full mission statement into their day to day operations. In fact,
each section of the mission statement is addressed in the about us page. First, let s look at For
Customers, A Better Life. Dollar General doesn t try to carry everything. They narrow their product
selection down to include only the most common necessities. ... Show more content on

Dollar General is very active in the communities in which it operates specifically with its literacy
programs. While www.dgliteracy.org is the charitable focus that Dollar General puts its name on, they
also have partnerships with other nationwide charitable organizations. The About Us page on
www.dollargeneral.com aligns quite well with their stated mission. In many ways, it is simply an
elaboration of their mission statement. The Dollar General website is an example of the correct way to
align a company s mission with the website. It appears to be an organization where the mission and
vision permeate the entire workforce. From leadership on down, it appears that Dollar General is truly
living their mission

Nazi Medical Experiments During The Holocaust
George Noah Fudge

Ms. Childs
WWII Nazi medical experiments Essay The essay you will be reading about will contain how Nazi
science experiments were inhuman. There will be some experiments you will be reading that actually
occurred during WWII.
Nazi human experiments were a series of medical experiments done on large numbers of prisoners
most of them were Jewish and Jewish children were included too from Europe, but there were some
other races too such as Romani, Ethnic Poles, Soviet POWs and non Jewish Germans. Caused by Nazi
s in Germany in the concentration camps in the early 1940s during WWII and the Holocaust. The
prisoners did not willingly volunteer usually the experiments ended in death or disfigurement of
permanent disability. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once you read about some of the things they did to the people in their so called science experiments is
hard to believe that humans actually did that to other humans. Like there was one where they were
testing mustard gas burns. They exposed the people to it deliberately then once they had the burns
they would study them. Another one they were testing was head injury experiments. They took this
little boy about ten, eleven, or twelve and strapped him down to a chair where he could not move and
just above his head was a mechanized hammer that would come down every few seconds and hit him
on the head. Eventually he was driven insane. This isn t even a science experiment this is pure torture.

Jesus s Blood With The Cup
One question brought up as a result of reading the narrative. Is Jesus relating the wine to his body in a
literal sense? Jesus identifies his blood with the cup. In the NT, αἷμα may refer to the red fluid within
the body s circulatory system; however, it more often has metaphorical connotations. It may denote
the death of a person, generally as the result of violence or execution...This metaphorical corollary is
especially true when αἷμα is found with ἐκχύννω in 23:35 and 26:28. Thus, in his saying over the cup,
Jesus also speaks of his violent death. The reason this has to be clarified is that it could easily lead a
person to say the cup is his blood in a literal sense. D. A. Carson in his practical counsel to Pastors
said, make sure that your own theology of the Lord s Supper is stable, mature, exegetically grounded,
and thought through. I suspect that one of the reasons why we settle for mere rote in our celebration of
the Lord s Supper is that we have not done the work that would enable us to be much fresher and more
evocative. In personal reflection, this paper and the research to get to this point has helped become
more stable and avoid a rote celebration of the Lord s Supper. This study has codified the connection
to fellowship and philanthropy in a completely different manner than ever before. The historic
development of the doctrines surrounding the Lord s Supper is clearer. I also understand many of the
terms better when people use them and what

The Water Treatment Process
Surface waters necessitate water treatment before consumption to eliminate the risk present to the
consumer. Poor quality water which consists of suspended and dissolved particles pose health risks.
The most harmful contamination is the microbiological contamination which leads to infectious
diseases (Water treatment, 1994).Since the early 1800 s water purification systems have been used to
eliminate the health risk posed by the recycled water. During the final process of treatment alternate
disinfectants are used, however UV radiation and chlorination are predominantly employed
techniques. UV radiation emitted by the sun was discovered to have germicidal effects on pathogens
and micro organisms present water. From this discovery came the introduction of UV radiation lamps,
which emit similar UV rays to the sun to disinfect the water. Chlorination systems had come into use a
few years later during the 1900 s as scientists had discovered the disinfection properties of chlorine.
Both methods have benefits and weaknesses, however chlorination is more suitable due to its low cost
of production and decreased risk of bacterial products in metropolitan areas.
The treatment process involves the removal of contaminants through a number of stages which
include: pre water treatment, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.
This is called the multiple barrier principle (Water Treatment, 1994).
The water treatment begins with the process of screening,

Conducting Research This is perhaps the most important step in the research paper writing process. Your research not only provides you ethos as a writer by revealing your knowledge and understanding of the topic, but also will very likely shape both your understanding and interpretation of the topic. Listed below are several important tips for conducting research and notetaking: * In order to avoid later confusion, begin each section by recording the author s name, book or article title, and page numbers (if relevant). * As you examine each source, record important or unique notions which you may wish to incorporate within your paper. Make certain to outline the general arguments of each source by including a descriptive heading after the citation. This will aid you in more quickly and easily distinguishing between sources in the future. Additionally, it may be useful to group sources into categories based on more refined topics. * In order to diminish the risk of plagiarizing, do NOT directly lift phrasing or entire segments of the text from sources without properly indicating that you have done so. If you find it necessary to directly quote an author, clearly indicate what has been copied from the author and record the page number on which this information can be found. * Remain critical of your sources: Do not assume that an idea or criticism is valid, because it appears in the argument of a single critic or even multiple ... Abina Mansah: An Overlooked History Abina Mansah, like many other women in her time, was a young Akan woman who was wrongfully enslaved by her captors. Although slavery was made illegal in 1875, many important men continued to seize youthful slaves female ones in particular, because they were less likely to run away and seek liberation. Despite this, Abina refused to be a slave under the authority of her master, Quamina Eddoo. With the help of court interpreter James Davis, she attempted to force the court system to hear her voice. Their voices are hidden beneath the voices of important men, and this left women like Abina frustrated and angry. As a student of the history of gender, Abina s story and her initiative to challenge the authority others had over her shows us the importance of being heard, and how young women s expressions are often disregarded and deemed less significant than those of important men. • 8. The Irrational Consumer Culture Surrounding Education In his book Why Teach?, Mark Edmundson constructs an argument about the paradoxical consumer culture surrounding education. The Virginian professor takes a stance on the problems that he has both experienced in his own classroom and observed on campuses, and he approaches each problem in turn, making significant claims which are assigned appropriate blames. His essay, Liberal Arts Lite Entertainment, originally published in 1997, is broken into six sections and begins with his experience at his own university before branching out to all those across the country. Following this is a deduction of student culture as well as professors. He gives hope to the idea of the acceptance and praising of genius (as opposed to the alienation students endorse so well) towards the end of his essay, narrowing his argument down to a more specific change that could possibly cause a domino effect from individual students to universities across America. The scale of the situation is much too large to be easily fixed, and it is clear that Edmundson s purpose in writing this essay is to inform those who are engulfed in the academic world. More specifically, it seems, he targets professors and higher level students, and even possibly their parents. By singling out these people and making the problem of consumer culture in universities known to those who care exponentially about educating the youth, it is much more likely that Edmundson s argument will trickle down to said youth in the process ... • 10. Analysis Of Sam Walton s Vision In 1963, Sam Walton had a vision. A vision, that he could bring what the consumers needed, to them, at the lowest price possible. Mr. Walton believed that a company could not be run by just one person, it had to take team work. With Mr. Walton relying on his associates at the lowest level possible, he created the retail empire known today as Walmart. Mr. Sam, as he was referred to, would visit each and every store to learn about its culture. He would sit down with each and every associate and get ideas, comments, concerns, and anything that the associates wanted to talk to him about. This practice allowed for Walmart to create a culture of its own. A culture where each person makes a difference, no matter what your background or life style. The cultural synergy remains the same today. This philosophy is the basis for Walmart s slogan, Every person makes a difference. Sam Walton knew that in order to be successful he needed to hear from everyone, to make everyone a spokesperson for the company. Many of the ideas that have been put into play have come from the lower level associates who never thought they could make a difference. Each associate comes from a different walk of life and background. This leads to the diverse workforce that Walmart has today. The cognitive appraisal theory states that if a person notices a particular psychological response, that person has to decide what it means before he or she can feel an emotion (Baird 195). In Tom s case, about halfway through his Milgram s experiment, his heartrate starts increasing and he starts sweating. He then stands up angry and declares that what is going on is wrong. The drive reduction theory of motivation might help explain why Tom walked out. The book states that departures from the optimal states creates drives (Baird 200). During this experiment, Tom was removed from his optimal state as he began to sweat, his heartrate increased, he became angry, and stated what was going on was wrong and he no longer would participate. Nonregulatory drives involved in the drive reduction theory such as sex or social drives also might help explain why Tom might have walked out. An example of these nonregulatory drive is a drive to preserve safety motivates feelings of fear, anger, and even the need for sleep (Baird 200). The reason I chose this theory of motivation to describe why Tom walked out is not only because of his removal from his optimal state, but also because the other theories might not be able to explain why Tom left. The social learning theory emphasizes the role of cognition in motivation and the importance of expectations in shaping behavior (Baird 200). From the definition of the social learning theory, Tom s importance of expectations or goals from the experiment were never introduced making it difficult to choose this theory as we do not know what his goals were as a participant. However, when we see these two things come to life, it can be disastrous. Tsunamis can travel at speeds of 500 miles per hour and it is very hard for them to lose energy. Tsunamis retain their energy, meaning they can travel across entire oceans with very small amounts of energy being lost. These tsunami waves can reach heights above 100 feet. Two tsunamis that stand out from all others are the Sumatra tsunami and the Japan tsunami. Looking at these allows us to see just how destructive tsunamis can be. On March 11, 2011 a magnitude 9 earthquake took place 100 km off the northeast coast of Japan. This was the largest earthquake that Japan had ever encountered. In the history of japan there has never been an earthquake above a magnitude of 8.4. Japan lies on a boundary between the pacific plate and the North American plate, positioning the country perfectly for natural disasters cause by tectonics. The energy behind the massive earthquake had reportedly been building up for hundreds of years, which is what caused the massive destruction. It is also important to note that earthquakes send off two different types of waves. The fastest waves that result from an earthquake are known as P waves or primary waves. The slower, but much more destructive waves are called S waves or Secondary waves which is what caused the most damage. During the 2011 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leading Change Analysis Week Four Discussion Forum In this week s reading assignment in the book, Leading Change, by Mr. Kotter, I gained additional insight in regards to aligning different parts of the business to result in a better outcome. The first concept from this week s reading that resonated with me was in the interdependence section of Chapter 9. The author outlines a company that has clear visibility and ownership allowing the company to control the manufacturing, sales, marketing, and development. This is an optimal solution in order to control your quality and speed. The part that I found interesting is that not many companies have this capability anymore because it is not fast, customer focused and less costly. Garmin is currently set up in this manner; owning its own manufacturing facilities and having its own marketing agency in the building. My opinion is that because of this the company can quickly turn and change it strategies with the market. This in contrast to the authors. At least in my experience when dealing with third party companies there is a higher cost and slower timeline to change scope with the market. Let me know what your thoughts are on ... • 24. Describe The Story Of Nabucco Before Verdi wrote his opera, the story of Nabucco appeared on the Italian stage for the first time in 1819. Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the work. The second story of Nabucco again appeared on the Italian stage, this time in the form of five act ballet written by Antonio Cortesi and performed at La Scala in 1838. The work was written and performed for the Coronation Season at La Scala. Commemorating the crowning of Austrian Emperor Ferdinand as King of Lombardy and Venetia, an event that marked the high point of Austrian domination in Italy. Temistocle Solera appears to have based his libretto to this scenario, and it was with its scenery and costume that Marelli first staged Verdi`s opera. The opera was based on a plot taken from the Old Testament of the Bible, Daniel 4:29 33, the story of Zechariach and the Jews suppressed by Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar whose name for purposes of song is reduced to Nabucco and his resentful daughter, ... The Babylonian religion and the high priest of Baal, ironically represent the Pope and the Catholic Church. The parallels between the opera`s subject matter and Italy`s situation in 1840s are easy to discern: the opera was about a chosen nation dreaming of freedom from foreign domination, the Hebrews slaves represented the Italians struggling against their Austrian ... I Although there is still not agreement on a common definition of this phenomenon, in this paper I will accept the one developed by R.M. Joshi (2009). He identifies, indeed, Economic Globalization as the increasing economic integration and interdependence of national, regional and local economies across the world through an intensification of cross border movement of goods, services, technologies and capital There are two good reasons, in my opinion to accept Prof. Joshi s definition. First, it contains two core point affecting every aspect of that phenomena: Interdependence and Cross border movements. Second, it focuses on the interaction among markets avoiding approximate expression often used in public debate as Global Economy and Global Market that could mislead the reader, where national states still play an important role in Economies destinies, many people are not involved in economy, some markets still operate on a local level, transnational corporations are anyway nationally based and we can not (still) talk about a global labour market. (Aspers and Kohl 2011). II The one among trade and peace is an old story. Yet in the XVII century Montesquieu (1758) wrote Peace is the natural effect of trade. Two nations who traffic with each other become reciprocally dependent . Another giant of that time, Immanuel Kant (1795), seems to share this point of view in his Essay on Perpetual Peace. At ... • 26. Firearms and Their Consequences Is the convenience of others worth the life of a single innocent? The answer of this question should spark such a reaction that it would make it impossible to remain neutral. And as such the world should ask the land that claims to be home of the brave; being the United States of America, what it s stance is on gun control. Because the land of opportunity can no longer say yes to unrestricted gun sales and no the safety of its innocents; or should only the gun owners dictate the laws in the land of opportunity. America needs to enforce gun restrictions to save the lives of innocent people. To long has it allowed its own civilians to dictate the worth of the life of an innocent. Should the general consensus be to hold life to the highest value? Is it not unfathomable to allow convenience to trump safety? Sometimes the only unbiased facts that can be stated are numbers, and here is some. Twelve, six, twenty, and six; sure that those numbers are not significant individually but further explanation the significance will deepen the meaning of each of numbers of these Massacres that occurred from July to December of the same year. Twelve was the number of lives ended in July in Colorado of 2012, and no this was not a fight, heated argument or anything even remotely close to that which statistically speaking is the leading cause for gun violence. In the previous couple of years, it has turned out to be in vogue for police offices to start community policing, frequently with little thought of what that expression implies. In reality, all way of hierarchical tinkering has been marked group policing. However, people group policing is not a program. • 29. Essay On Exotic Animals People Shouldn t Be Able To Have Exotic Animals There are many exotic animals all over the world that live in the wild. There are many species and some are extinct. Exotic animals are very expensive that require more than what people realize. These animals belong in their natural habitats. It is wrong and cruel for the animals that have to live in captivity when they are meant to live in the wild. Taking exotic animals out of the wild disrupts the natural food chain and negatively affects natural selection. Exotic animals belong in the wild because the reason they are exotic is because they cannot be tamed like any other pet, and if they can t be tamed, they can become a harm to the owner and to others that the animal feel threatened by. Injury and possibly death is likely to happen under such circumstances of the animals being neglected. Another reason why I believe that exotic animals do not belong under human captivity as pets is because it is harmful to the pets and the nature of them. Some animals need their families to survive and they also need to learn to hunt in order for them to survive. Once an exotic animal becomes the pet of someone, it becomes dependent which is unhealthy for the animal, especially if they are brought under captivity at such an early age. Owning exotic animals as keeping them as pets should be illegal is what I believe is right. Exotic animals kept as house pets are a hazard to the pet owners and any other people around the ... An over the shoulder camera angle was also used, the camera goes through Finn s shoulder while he is holding his weapon up high and Beowulf s face is right in the center dominating his opponent just by verbally speaking to him. • 31. Review Of The Things They Carried JANIELLE DUMAPIT THE THINGS THEY CARRIED ESSAY: Role of Women in the Novel The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien contains many themes involving the impact of war, which are very prevalent in the lives of the soldiers and Tim himself; their very being in the war influences their thoughts and actions. Because of the nature of the war, these stories revolve around men and how their direct contact with the war changes their lives. While it is easy for women to be omitted from a story about war, especially the Vietnam War, O Brien still incorporates them into his. In the novel The Things They Carried, there are very few women represented in both passing and the direct action; however, these women are used to allow the reader to further understand major messages about war: hope and motivation to persevere, the change that people undergo, and the general pointlessness of it. Several women characters are not directly in the action of the novel; however, their purpose is to give the soldiers hope, which is evident through their mementos and keepsakes. O Brien opens up the novel with an explanation of how much Martha means to Jimmy Cross by writing, First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried letters from a girl named Martha, a junior at Mount Sebastian College in New Jersey. They were not love letters, but Lieutenant Jimmy Cross was hoping, so he kept them folded in plastic at the bottom of his rucksack (O Brien 2). The Symbolism Of Tunnels In Literature Lauren Schmidt Mr. Porter English IV 25 September 2017 A Deeper Look: Stars, skeletons, and shadows are objects that may initially seem common and insignificant to the plot of a novel. However, authors sometimes have a purpose behind simple objects like these, events that occur, and/or the types of characters that are developed. When an author utilizes a recurrent symbol, character, or situation that is an instinctual expression of man s nature and experiences that are universal, the author is incorporating archetypes. With this understanding, the reader is more likely to be able to relate to Charlie s adolescent transformation or make connections with other young adult novels. In the novel, Charlie hits his ultimate low point in his battle with depression in the middle of winter. He felt that he was alone and had absolutely no one to turn to. One night shortly after New Year s, Charlie found himself both mentally and physically lost. Suffocated by heavy thoughts, he wandered outside and laid in the snow, only for a policeman to find him pale blue and asleep the next day, and he didn t stop shivering from the cold until a long time after [his] mom and dad drove [him] home from the emergency room, (Chbosky 98). The cold, snowy winter can be viewed as an archetype that affects how the reader perceives this point in Charlie s transformation. The mood of the story, or how it makes the reader feel, seems much more dismal because of the time of year. The reader will be able to understand more completely how miserable of a time this was for Charlie, and he/she could potentially relate to this feeling of loneliness. Even the most robust models for making high stakes decisions about teacher effectiveness contain numerous sources of error that can lead to ill founded interpretations of the data. Within the larger classification of student growth measures is value added modeling (VAM), a method that uses a statistical model to establish a causal link between teachers and the achievement of students within their classroom. VAMs are considered promising because, in a perfect world, they might have the potential to promote education reform and to create a more equitable accountability system holding teachers and schools accountable for the aspects of student learning that are attributable to effective teaching without burdening teachers and schools with responsibility for factors outside of their control. Value added models are being used to evaluate teacher effectiveness in districts across the country, including New York City and Washington, D.C. Opinion on their potential for misuse and misinterpretation has been split, with some arguing that VAMs are inherently imprecise and ill suited to measuring teacher effectiveness (Rothstein, 2008; Baker et al., 2010), while others posit that the possibilities for error are minimal (Kane and ... Perspectives vary by culture, religion and from person to person depending on countless variables. This question particularly interested the philosophers Plato and Epicurus. Although both men had fully rational, valid, and interesting takes on the idea of goodness, my argument is that Epicurus ideology in my opinion is the most reasonable answer. In this essay, I will begin by explaining Epicurus hedonistic view, I will then explain why Plato dissents, and then I will finish off by explaining why I believe Epicurus idea is more reasonable. Hedonism the idea that pleasure is the greatest good, was the ethical theory used by Epicurus to show us how to live a happy life. A prominent belief of his was that we needed to master our desires. To do this, we must first understand our desires and where they come from. This means being able to look at your desires, and understand those that are necessary for survival, for your happiness, and those which are not necessary at all. By doing this, Epicurus would say that you will be able to make wise decisions which will ultimately lead to a happy life. The Dollar General website is an example of the correct way to align a company s mission with the website. It appears to be an organization where the mission and vision permeate the entire workforce. From leadership on down, it appears that Dollar General is truly living their mission ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There will be some experiments you will be reading that actually occurred during WWII. Nazi human experiments were a series of medical experiments done on large numbers of prisoners most of them were Jewish and Jewish children were included too from Europe, but there were some other races too such as Romani, Ethnic Poles, Soviet POWs and non Jewish Germans. Once you read about some of the things they did to the people in their so called science experiments is hard to believe that humans actually did that to other humans. Like there was one where they were testing mustard gas burns. They exposed the people to it deliberately then once they had the burns they would study them. Another one they were testing was head injury experiments. They took this little boy about ten, eleven, or twelve and strapped him down to a chair where he could not move and just above his head was a mechanized hammer that would come down every few seconds and hit him on the head. Eventually he was driven insane. This isn t even a science experiment this is pure torture. strapped him down to a chair where he could not move and just above his head was a mechanized hammer that would come down every few seconds and hit him on the head. • 45. Jesus s Blood With The Cup One question brought up as a result of reading the narrative. Is Jesus relating the wine to his body in a literal sense? Jesus identifies his blood with the cup. In the NT, αἷμα may refer to the red fluid within the body s circulatory system; however, it more often has metaphorical connotations. It may denote the death of a person, generally as the result of violence or execution...This metaphorical corollary is especially true when αἷμα is found with ἐκχύννω in 23:35 and 26:28. Thus, in his saying over the cup, Jesus also speaks of his violent death. The reason this has to be clarified is that it could easily lead a person to say the cup is his blood in a literal sense. D. A. Carson in his practical counsel to Pastors said, make sure that your own theology of the Lord s Supper is stable, mature, exegetically grounded, and thought through. I suspect that one of the reasons why we settle for mere rote in our celebration of the Lord s Supper is that we have not done the work that would enable us to be much fresher and more evocative. In personal reflection, this paper and the research to get to this point has helped become more stable and avoid a rote celebration of the Lord s Supper. This study has codified the connection to fellowship and philanthropy in a completely different manner than ever before. The historic development of the doctrines surrounding the Lord s Supper is clearer. I also understand many of the terms better when people use them and what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Water Treatment Process Surface waters necessitate water treatment before consumption to eliminate the risk present to the consumer. Poor quality water which consists of suspended and dissolved particles pose health risks. The most harmful contamination is the microbiological contamination which leads to infectious diseases (Water treatment, 1994).Since the early 1800 s water purification systems have been used to eliminate the health risk posed by the recycled water. During the final process of treatment alternate disinfectants are used, however UV radiation and chlorination are predominantly employed techniques. UV radiation emitted by the sun was discovered to have germicidal effects on pathogens and micro organisms present water. From this discovery came the introduction of UV radiation lamps, which emit similar UV rays to the sun to disinfect the water. Chlorination systems had come into use a few years later during the 1900 s as scientists had discovered the disinfection properties of chlorine. Both methods have benefits and weaknesses, however chlorination is more suitable due to its low cost of production and decreased risk of bacterial products in metropolitan areas. The treatment process involves the removal of contaminants through a number of stages which include: pre water treatment, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. This is called the multiple barrier principle (Water Treatment, 1994). The water treatment begins with the process of screening, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
