Essay on BIS 320 Week 3 Individual Assignment
Determining Databases and Communications
BIS/320
Scenario 1 Today s world is one that is driven by technology. It s almost a get on board or get left
behind situation. Getting dressed, driving to the mall, and walking around shopping are being
replaced by staying in pajamas, walking to a computer, and shopping on Amazon.com. There are
benefits to both situations but it s up to choose how they would like to conduct business. As
business men and women the situation can become a bit more complicated. The following
examples help to clarify this statement.
As a marketing assistant that s in charge of setting up the company booth at trade shows to generate
new business, it s very critical that everything be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few examples of relationships that would need to be tracked are:
a. Quantity of parts vs. shipping cost.
b. Required date parts desired vs. shipping cost.
c. Parts needed vs. booth setup vs. trade show location.
Although it s possible to put just about any process in an excel spreadsheet, the concern is how
much time it would take to accomplish all of the required data entry. Why not use a database
software program such as Gigatrak to easily barcode and track all of the parts? This software can
then be combined with an Excel spreadsheet if the person has more of a comfort level with it.
(Asset Tracking, 2010)
In this particular example the preference would be to use a personal database management system
(DBMS). Why? Based on personal need and the expectations placed on the database there would
have to be significant growth expected to warrant the use of an enterprise database. An enterprise
database is designed for use with corporations or large businesses that plan to move large amounts
of data or conduct many simultaneous transactions ( To Use or Not to Use a Database? That Is the
Question , 2013). Also due to the relatively straightforward process of checking out booth parts and
components there really is no need for using a Decision Support System. If there were multiple
marketing assistants mixing and matching parts and trying to make deadlines then there could be
the possible need of a DSS.

Pros And Cons Of Having High School
Does only having a high school diploma mean you re unsuccessful? This is a topic that receives a
lot of attention in todays society. From political campaigns revolving completely around the
promise of free college education to the argument that many high schools need less book classes
and more hands on vocational classes. In many families in the current time they are the first
members of their families to attend college. However with all the arguments there are still on
question that is left unanswered does only having a high schooldiploma mean that you are
unsuccessful? Just eighteen precent of recent college graduates with student loans of over fifty
thousand dollars believe that the debt of their educationwas truly worth it. Is the debt worth the
education that you gain or is the work experience you gain out of high school with your diploma
better? ($50,000) The average cost to attend a four year college is 129,620 dollars which breaks
down to 32,405 dollars per year. The average family income in the United States is a little over
51,000 dollars per year. With the price of college being so high and the average family income as
low as it is makes the option for a lot of high students out of the question when they graduate high
school. ($50,000) One famous successful person... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Roger Bushell s Life In The Concentration Camp
Roger Bushell was an Auxiliary Air Force pilot who organized and led the escape from the
infamous German prison camp Stalag Luft III. Roger was first made into a prisoner of war
(POW) when he arrived at Dulag Luft. He was made into a permanent part of the British staff
under senior British officer Wing Commander Harry Day. His job in the POW camp was to help
new air force captured soldiers get used to their own life as a POW. Roger was always thinking
about escape. He quickly became friends with Fleet Air Arm pilot Jimmy Buckley and Day. The
three of them soon formed a committee known for being responsible for all escape attempts. Roger
was transferred along with the 17 other most troubling prisoners to the new camp StalagLuft III after

In Rogers childhood he could swear fluently in English, Afrikaans, and Kaffir, and he could spit
an incredible distance. This led to him being disliked and beat by other boys. Other parents also
disliked Roger a great deal. During the war he was captured by the Germans and put in to a
concentration camp. This led to him being considered a Prisoner of Waror a (POW) for short. Life
in the concentration camp was terrible. The German security guards were armed with torches
and steel spikes just to torment the already dying prisoners. This made the prisoners very angry
and they wanted to escape, so they started digging tunnels. Though Eventually the Germans
caught on. They dug sound detectors into the ground around the barbed wire fences at the
border of the camp to pick up the tunnel digging sounds, and like clockwork they found tunnel
after tunnel. There were also odd escape ways that the Germans had no way of picking up on; only
a few people escaped this way. One prisoner dressed up as a ferret and crawled away to freedom,
and the Germans didn t suspect a thing. If you were caught doing something undesirable as a

My Great Grandfather
In 1897, my great great grandfather was born in North Carolina. His name was Roy Hudson. He
served in the army in World War One and he died in 1960 from a lengthy issue with his heart. His
heart issues started when he developed pleurisy, most likely from sleeping on the cold, wet
ground while in the Army during World War One. He was only sixty three years old when he
died. Just before he died, he gave his wife, my great great grandmother, his glasses, a book, and a
billfold. My great great grandmother s name was Roland Goddard. She was born in 1898 in North
Carolina, and her parents died when she was only eight years old. She was very active in her
community, and acted in community plays. She was very kind, and she sang beautifully. In 1979,
she died when she was eighty one years old. One of RolandВґs children, Doris Hudson, was born in
North Carolina in 1927. She is my great grandmother, and she is still living. She is ninety years
old and I call her Gaga. She fell a few months ago and could not walk for a while, but she
recovered and is now able to walk slowly. When I was too young to go to daycare, she would
babysit me all day. She thought that is was alright for me to eat cookies when I could barely eat
solid food. She also thought that I was hungry every time that I cried, therefore I was a very
chubby baby. She had three children; Bobby Rose, Jacquelyn Jackie Rose, and Jerry Rose.
Jackie is my grandmother. She was born in Virginia, but moved to Buras, Louisiana, then later
moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She played outfield on a semi professional softball team, and
she was a teacher, although she retired after the 2016 2017 school year. She had two children;
Michael Marino, and Jamie Marino. Jamie is my mother. She was born in Virginia, but moved to
Buras, Louisiana, then to Shreveport, Louisiana. She currently teaches music at Sunset Acres
Elementary, but she has held other teaching jobs as an English or history teacher. She received her
Bachelor s degree in teaching at LSUS, and received her Master s degree in teaching through
online classes at Northwestern University. She served in the secret service under President Bush,
and met Dick Chaney, Bush s Vice President from 2001 2009. She has three

Radio Presenter: Good evening ladies and gentlemen, this is the BBC world service, coming to you
on this day the 17th of June 1963.
Today is the 10 year anniversary of the uprisings in East Berlin which started with the peaceful
demonstration of workers building a memorial to Stalin in Stalinallee.
Their protest against the increased work norms, the lack of consumer goods, high price of food
and low pension provisions took them to the Trade Union Head Quarters where they were swiftly
joined by others.
The protest quickly became a political one, but when not a single high ranking SED member came
out to reason with the crowd, it moved on to the Haus der Ministerien, where the protesters reported
contradictory messages.

Radio Presenter: Thank you for your time Konrad. Now we are going to move on to talk to Walter
Ulbricht, the current Head of State for the GDR. Walter, do you believe that the way in which East
Germany dealt with the uprising was appropriate? The public were demanding to be listened to and
it seems as though they were only answered with violence.
Ulbricht: Violence was a necessary force at the time of the uprising. The mental pollution that had
been seeping in from the West was too toxic to not take severe action. We had to turn to the Soviet
Union for military support. In total, around 16 Soviet divisions with 20,000 soldiers as well as
8,000 Kasernierte Volkspolizei members were used to stop the Uprising and show the people of
East Germany that they had no reason to be so disheartened by the government, despite the
attempts by western agencies to disrupt the national stability and legitimacy of the SED.
It was clear that the increasing influence the West was bringing to our people needed to stop and
we therefore had to ensure that the public understood the seriousness of going against the
successful politics of the GDR.
Radio presenter: Thank you Walter for helping to reflect on the traumatic riots of June 1953. We
are now being connected with the USA in order to talk with Dwight Eisenhower who was the

The Cabinet Of Doctor Calligari
Lesson 3 Expressionism is to take a individual view of the world and to distort it radically in
order to invoke a certain mood, feeling, or idea, rather than making an explicit statement. During
the First World War, the imperial government of Germany prohibited all foreign films and
encouraged the production of new film that supported the war effort through propaganda and
distraction. Because the whole idea of expressionist films is to invoke a certain mood in the
viewer and not really make any clear statements, they were the perfect mechanism to distract the
German people from the social stress and economic instability created by the war. There s perhaps
no greater example of expressionist film than The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari by Robert Wiene.
Siegfried Kracauer dubbed the film revolutionary not only because of its expressionist form, but
also because of its political message.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The entire film avoids all sorts of realism by avoiding any strait or perpendicular lines, as well as
distorting many objects, buildings, and backgrounds to invoke certain moods, such as anxiety and
confusion. The expressionist form of this film represents the movement as a whole because, with
every scene, the film is attempting more to create a feeling in the viewer, rather than simply tell a
message. The expressionist movement is about feeling without being told what to feel, which is
exactly what this film

The Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy By Douglas Adams
One of the literary highlights of my life has been reading The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy
by Douglas Adams. The short novel is packed with tons of humor, not leaving any joke untold.
However, despite being by far the funniest book I ve ever read, it discusses some fascinating
subjects, both philosophically and scientifically. Because Hitchhiker s Guide is such a fantastic
book, I propose a course based around discussing the topics covered in the book and learning
about the science and philosophy behind the book. The course would allow for in depth
discussions of a plethora of topics like time travel and even the existence of God. It would be great
for honors students because it would take advantage of their natural urge to learn and debate as well
as teach students about material that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, discussing a whale appearing in the sky and subsequently falling to the earth
(which happens in the book, if you haven t read it), would allow for discussion on both the
probability of random events (like a whale appearing in the sky) and life philosophy. Aside from
discussing the topics discussed by the book, the course could take a literary turn and discuss the use
of humor and writing of the book. Douglas Adams has a unique sense of humor, which is largely
dominated by dry, absurdly matter of fact statements. This would add a literary perspective to a
course that already discusses STEM and philosophical subjects. Part of the course would require
reading The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, as well as reading The Science of the Hitchhiker s
Guide to the Galaxy by Michael Hanlon, a book that discusses the same things the course would,
and would give students a jumping off point for class discussions. This course would offer multiple
interesting topics for everyone, and would foster intellectually stimulating

The History Of Mathematics In A Large Nutshell
Math through the Ages provides an interesting and concise analysis of the mathematical culture of
different societies in history. The section The History of Mathematics in a Large Nutshell provides
an interesting discussion of Greek mathematics. The mathematics of the culture both influenced and
was influenced by the culture of the society. The Greeks were most likely the most important
historical society in the Western world. They spread their vast knowledge and affected the
mathematical traditions of the world. According to Greek historians, their mathematical pursuits
began somewhere around 600 B.C.E. Our earliest record of Greek mathematics, however, is from
300 B.C.E. Unfortunately, most of what we know about the Greek mathematical tradition comes
from the 3rd and 4th century. These works seem to do a decent job at preserving the past, but how
well they preserve the works scholars cannot know (Berlinghoff Gouvea, 2004, p. 14). One reason
for the Greeks extensive influence on mathematics was the broad range of Greek speaking people.
Greek mathematics is not limited to Greece, but rather extends throughout the Mediterranean
world. Greek was the language of the educated in most of the Mediterranean. Building on the work
of the Egyptians, the Greeks made many great mathematical achievements (Berlinghoff Gouvea,
2004, p. 15). The Greek numeration system was very similar to the Roman s and rather primitive
compared to that of the Babylonians. The system used the

while carrying 239 passengers and crew from 14 different nations. The Boeing 777 aircraft
vanished without a distress call 94 minutes after taking off, while making a scheduled flight

are still a mystery to this day. It stands as the most expensive search in aviation history, spending
$160 million spanning over 46,000 square miles of ocean. The cause of the disappearance was
declared an accident and the possible crash zone is believed to be somewhere in the Indian ocean,
due to the findings of over 20 objects that have washed ashore on beaches off the coastlines of

Kimberly Belflower s Play Lost Girl
Lost Girl written by Kimberly Belflower, a student at the University of Texas in Austin from New
York who writes plays with fresh emotions and beautiful language that inspect the relationship
between young women s internal and external lives. Lost Girl is a play about adult Wendy Darling,
the girl who when younger ran away with the well known Peter Pan. More specifically the play is
about Wendy dwelling on her past with Peter and past in Neverland. She is obsessed with him, the
lost boy who took her flying and gave her the childhood adventure any child only dreams to be a
part of. She clings to the memory in hopes that he will one day come back like he said he would,

With Wendy being the dynamic antagonist of this play it was destin for her to change in some
way on the playwright. From the beginning when she mentions thinking about Peter for eight
minutes a day to when she realizes that she not only leaves eight minutes to think about him, but
she lets him affect her life; even though they have not seen each other in years. This implication
takes place not only in the play but in the real world as well. I do not agree to holding onto things
that are not tangible. Holding on to a feeling you had when one was younger does not help a
person as an adult. It will start to affect the things you do or the things you should be doing. It
will affect the people around you, just like Wendy s situation, it will cause conflict between the
ones that you are close to. No one around you wants to see their loved one or best friend clinging
on to a feeling they should have no problem letting go of. The disadvantage of holding on to old
feelings results in an unhappy person, in someone who cannot leave the mindset they are in. It will
slow a person down in succeeding in life, creates speed bumps in life, and keep them from their

True Colors Reflection Essay
Not everyone has a clear idea of their personality especially in their teen and early adult years.
The best way to find out is to ask yourself the right questions about yourself, which can be very

basically your personality type. By doing the true colors assessment and asking the right
questions I have figured out what I want in my life, how I have changed since the beginning of

more sensitive and I value people a lot more than I used to. The beginning of my high school
years I was very cold and distant. I learned those characteristics will not get me anywhere I
wanted to be. I accepted that I do actually have emotions, sometimes too many, but once I
actually starting feeling them I became happier. Now that I am senior in high school I am at a
harmonious state with my personality. By finding my true color, I now know what I want from
my career. Since my personality result was blue, I will work best in something that causes me to
be social. I chose the pharmacy career because I also have the trait of being a caretaker and, what
better way to take care of people than by making sure they get the medicine they need to feel
better. The people I work with best would be encouraging which is what most people who work in
that career are. I

How Did Emperor Muthito Change Japan
Emperor Mutsuhito, also known as Emperor Meiji, was born in Japan and eventually became an
emperor there. The period in which he ruled was referred to as the Meiji Era, which means
enlightened peace . During this time, he made many decisions that worked to reverse the last two
centuries of Japan isolation. This included the elimination of feudalism and the establishment of a
more centralized government. For example, in 1889, the emperor established a new constitution
modeled after several European nations. He also changed education to focus more on math and
science, instead of Japanese culture. Although several groups resented these decisions, Emperor
Mutsuhito s decisions helped Japan to grow and become more successful. Another ruler, Kemal...

Kemal Ataturk helped to industrialize the nation and help it to grow. Finally, Shah Reza Pahlavi is

The Crusades Of The Middle Ages
During the Middle Ages, there was a series of seven wars that lasted seven centuries known as the
Crusades. Each Crusader Army had one major goal: to recapture Jerusalem from the Seljuk Turks,
the land where Jesus had been crucified. Historical narratives often depict the first Crusaders as
warriors and religious heroes because they succeeded in temporarily recapturing the Holy Land.
While the Second Crusade depicted the crusaders as a mass failure when they lost the land they
were protecting, the third crusade portrayed them as religious heroes once again, when Richard the
Lionheart almost captured the Holy Land again. However, the Fourth Crusadeshattered all hopes of
recapturing Jerusalem. The Roman Catholic people had high expectations for the war, but it ended
horribly when the crusaders attacked their own allies in Constantinople. This tragedy was a major
turning point during these wars because it changed how the crusaders were viewed. The failure of
the 4th crusaders forces historians to wonder how a well trained army failed to attack their enemies
and instead attacked the very people they wanted to protect. When one examines the issues
encountered by the crusaders, the greediness of the Venetians, the political struggles of
Constantinople, and the spread of Greek cultures, one can better understand the cause and effect of
the Fourth crusade.
The war began in a rush by the new young and ambitious pope, Innocent the Third who was

How Does Macbeth Change Throughout The Play
In the play The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, it starts off describing Macbeth as a
loyal thane of Glamis and very loyal to his king. Throughout the okay, he will transform from this
loyal warrior to a very evil, power hungry tyrant. He did not reach this transformation alone
however, there were a few ugly sisters who helped with this transformation.
Obviously the three witches that are introduced in the beginning play a major role in what Macbeth
and his wife Lady Macbeth would do throughout the play. The play opens up with the Three
Witches being the first to talk, so we meet them very early and actually before anyone else. At
this point, they sort of set the mood of the play by displaying the weather and mood of what s
going on. One way they set the mood of the play with weather is by what they said in Act 1, Scene
1 in the first two lines, When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? .
The Three Witches are often referred to as The Weird Sisters by many of the characters. Throughout
the play, the witches lurk around to persuade characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to evil
temptations. For example, when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth would not (in my opinion) have murdered the King without the predictions of the witches.
This gives the witches the credit that they deserve. I think that maybe if the witches hadn t been so
correct about their predictions earlier in the play, then Macbeth might have just shrugged them off

Reflection Of Music In This Little Light Of Mine
Music is defined as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to
produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of music. What truly exemplifies this
definition is the performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald
Craig Manuel and Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of
Mr. Manuel s Baritone voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel
performed twelve compositions in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much
he loved the Lord and the other four were taken from major events he performed for such as:
Festival of the Lion Kingat Hong Kong Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney
Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney films. Even though each of these pieces
were different in context they had numerous similarities such as: all of them being polyphonic,
crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were used frequently, each piece
was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an opera, and he used
vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were brilliantly performed,
the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall Johnson, This
Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first piece that was
performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in Low D flat in
quadruple meter.

Examples Of Equality In Harrison Bergeron
The short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut is a story about such an equal society that
people s lives are being ruined. Harrison Bergeron fought the government to free him and his
society of the handicaps that are used to create a perfectly equal world. Also, what is equality?
Equality is not a good quality for a society because, there is no room for change, and no one has the
motivation to continue. The definition of equality is the state of being equal, especially in status,
rights, and opportunities. In Harrison Bergeron, the Government took the equality to an extreme
level, by forcing equality upon the general population. They gave those who were strong, weights to
slow them down, those who are beautiful masks to wear, and the intelligent, headphones that
produced loud noises when they thought. The quote from Benjamin Franklin Without continual
growth and progress such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning, is
and example of what would happen to a society if it was perfectly equal. If America lived in a
society today,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tort Of Negligence Case Summary
Issue: The second issue to consider is whether Amin could bring a claim of negligence against Bob

Rule: The tort of negligence will apply once it has been established that a duty of care was owed,
there was a breach of that duty, and damage resulted from that breach.

Patrick was drinking alcohol and had the added responsibility of safely driving the boat. The risk
was foreseeable and not farfetched or fanciful, in all probability the risk of injury is likely to
occur, the magnitude of the risk is high and there were other alleviations and responsibilities
available.
There has also been a breach of the required standard of care from Bob as he has not acted as a
reasonable person would have in similar circumstances. The risk was once again foreseeable and
not farfetched or fanciful, in all probability the likelihood was that an injury would occur, as Bob
was the spotter the magnitude of the risk was even higher and once again there were other

When considering Amin s injuries, the question becomes whether he sustained the injuries water

Amin sustained is not too remote in this instance. However, there is a presumption that Amin may
have contributed to the risk as he was intoxicated.

Cultural Puree in Colonial America Essay
Acclaimed Nobel Prize winner Tony Morrison has her novel A Mercy set in the colonial America
of 1680 in New York, Maryland and Virginia. Many cultures were contributing to the abundantly
laid table. Gronim writes: New York had not attracted huge waves of colonists. By the turn of the
eighteenth century, a census counted a mere eighteen thousand people (including slaves) (3). New
York was where our protagonist, the Vaarks, Florens, their African American slave, Lina, their
Native American slave, Sorrow, an orphan, and their two indentured British servants are living. As
many people living in the New York colony, the Vaarks were farmers and made their living from

extremely important aspects of their everyday lives: religion and food. Southern eating and
cooking habits were specifically influenced by African American slaves, who did the majority of
cooking on the old southern plantations (Schiflett 44). There were four main crops on southern
plantations, and these crops were rice, sugar, cotton, and rice. While multiple crops were grown
on the plantations, each plantation chose one cash crop as their main crop. Yet even in a system
of assimilation, where individual needs, desires, and tastes were suppressed, slaves managed to
supplement their food supplies through gardening, gathering, fishing, and hunting (Shiflett 44). In
the novel, many different food choices were presented to the reader. They made rice with
molasses, which embodies two of the major crops at that time. Items such as pork for meat and
corn for a starch were also major aspects of a slave s food choices. Other major food items that
were popular throughout Virginia as seen in the novel were oysters, stews,

David Schön Model Of Reflective Practice
As important as methods may be, the most practical thing we can achieve in any kind of work is
insight into what is happening inside us as we do it. The more familiar we are with our inner

The Stele Of Naram-Sin Sne Analysis
In my essay, I will compare and contrast two historical pieces. The first one is the Victory Stele
of Naram Sin. The stele was made by the Mesopotamian empire during the Akkadian period,
which was from 2254 to 2218 BCE. It was founded in Susa, present day Shush, Iran. The second
piece is the Palette of Narmer. The palette was made by the nation during the Egyptian period
during 3000 2920 BCE. Both of the objects convey different messages in them through their visual
construction. First I will discuss the scenes in the objects, then I will discuss the composition, and
lastly, I will explain what the pieces were made of and how tall they are.

him are the enemies that are begging him to live. Unlike the Victory Stele of Naram Sin that

Egypt s government. The front of the palette is a smiting scene. This is where Narmer holds the
hair of Lower Egypt s king. On the back, Narmer is seen wearing a red crown to signify his
victory. The composition is an important part of the art. In both pieces, the eyes move from the top

3. Explain the basic logic of probability theory
Probability can be a complex field of mathematics, but in its simplest definition it is the likelhood
of an event being true divided by the total number of possibilities. For example, flipping a coin has
two possibilities: heads or tails. There is only one way for a coin to land on heads, so the answer to
this probability question is 1:2.
1. In a poll, respondents were asked whether they had ever been in a car accident. 177
respondents indicated that they had been in a car accident and 107 respondents said that they
had not been in a car accident. If one of these respondents is randomly selected, what is the
probability of getting someone who has been in a car accident? 177 = Probability of choosing
someone who was in a car accident because fraction cannot be reduced any more 107 than it is. So
the odds are 177 out of 284 total choices.

Whether you believe in paranormal forces or not, it is not safe for minors to be outside after

Authorship Of Hebrews
The author for the book of Hebrews is unknown, as there is no ascription or introduction given by
the author; therefore, scholars may only propose possible authors without confirming who it is.
With that said, many scholars have pushed for Pauline because in earlier manuscripts Hebrews
followed Romans which they thought warranted Pauline authorship. Some of the early church
fathers believe that there is Pauline influence, however, not Pauline authorship simply for the
reason that Hebrews seems to be written by a well educated Greek with elaborate and complex
language. There are other suggestions made by scholars, most of which they are unable to
support. Pricilla is one example, it would be fitting for her authorship of Hebrews based on her
being in Paul s inner circle and the book having Pauline influence, however, one would have to look
past the strong presence of the authors masculine self reference.... Show more content on

Moreover, Luke translates Barnabas to mean son of consolation which ties into Hebrews being a

which Paul confirms in his letters, however, this does not confirm his authorship as there are also
various things that would not agree with his authorship. Lastly, there is discussion concerning
Apollos as the author of Hebrews, there are many connections that have been made, such as,
Apollos being a Jew and Hebrews showing strong knowledge of Judaism, Apollos being well

There is a fine line between how much safety a corporation should provide to the consumer

Take, for instance, the all too familiar McDonald s coffee episode. Does McDonald s have a

A corporation that has been given such estimates from its engineering department has a
responsibility to implement a safety device. Electric start is the single most important option that
should be incorporated on all models for safety reasons. The profile of users in a shop or garage
setting differs greatly from users in a home. Users in a shop or garage are more likely to be
mechanically inclined. Additionally, safety features are arguably more important in a home than in
a shop or garage. In a home, the heater is typically closer to combustibles, including furniture,
curtains, and carpet. Due to these variables, CSH should market an indoor/outdoor heater and an
outdoor only heater. The only necessary option on the outdoor heater is the electric start, as
previously discussed. A shop or garage user will likely be more mechanically inclined and able
to adjust the wick accurately. A thermostat shouldn t be needed because the unit will less likely
be near combustibles. Overheating due to flare ups will not be as big of an issue either because
of the surroundings, not to mention the user is more likely to notice flare ups because the unit
will only be operating when he or she is in the garage or shop, in most cases. A removable tank
would also not be necessary since fill up is easier outdoors.
On the other hand, the indoor/outdoor heater should have three options incorporated on the base
model. The first is the electric start option, as mentioned

Theme Of Government Control In V For Vendetta
In Both James McTeigue film V for Vendetta and Kurt Vonnegut s 2BR02B short story, In both texts
authors presents a Fraudulent government which has control over its society. In 2BR02B the
government runs the Federal Bureau of Termination gas chambers where the suicides occur. V For
Vendetta tells a story about a revolutionary character who battles to ruin, and in the long run
overthrow the apparently rightist governmentthat tenets England. James McTeigueand Kurt
Vonnegutuse characterisation, symbolism and setting to show government control over society.
Characterisation
In the film V for vendetta , author James McTeigue has displayed how the government has
enforced people to believe that freedom equals chaos, which is what the main character V wants to
expose to the nation. There is one important scene which discusses freedom it is during V s speech
to the nation, which he exposes the lies created by the government and urging people to fight
against.
V for Vendetta demonstrates rebellion against injustice through the main character V. He was a
casualty of illicit genetic testing by the government with an end goal to assist their insight about
the human body s capacity to survive epidemics. V was the only one left standing and was able
escape from the torture. His hatreds then turned into vengeance. He declared to bring justice to
the nation and overthrow the injustice of the government. Kurt Vonnegut s also maneuvers the
story to show the main character Edward wehling as the victim to the government regime.
Wehling lives in a cutting edge United States where age and illnesses were vanquished and there
were no detainment facilities, slums, challenged people, poverty, or wars. The population was at
a controlled 40 million yearly. Edward wehling attributes of being overruled come to show when

In fact, there are several artists that had helped changed the way rock music is by adding new
elements to the music genre. For example, the Beatles is one main group that had revolutionize the

song), instead of centered around albums. When the Beatles released their eighth album called
Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967, it transformed the rock music industry to be
more albums orientated. Another famous artist that probably made as big of an impact or even
bigger than the Beatles is Elvis Presley. Elvis is the definition of early rock, because he was a
musical and cultural icon who not only helped shaped rock music itself, but also helped
influence people around the world in many ways, such as people s everyday fashion and attitude.

In endometriosis, this endometrial tissue begins to grow in places outside the uterus. Typical sites
include the fallopian tubes, intestines, vagina, and on scars that my form after abdominal surgery.
The misplaced endometrial tissue thickens, engorges with blood and bleeds during the menstrual
cycle, just like the normal tissue in the uterus. However, there is no place for the abnormally placed
endometrial tissue outside the uterus to shed blood. This results in the formation of cysts, scars,
and adhesions. This process can also block or affect the fallopian tubes so that conception and

Why Viruses Are Not Living Organisms
In general, viruses are a distinct group comparing to others. Viruses have similar characteristic as
a living organism, but it also lack some of the element that a living organism have. Viruses are a
hereditary material that may be single strand genome, or other may contain a double strand
genome which is ribonucleic acid or deoxyribonucleic acid. Viruses are very small species, when a
virusis not in contact with a cell, it is just a proteinthat contains a genome. In the other hand, when
it is in contact with a cell, it will requires help from the cells that have been inserted into to
duplicates itself. I agree that viruses are considered not living organisms because they can not do
many functions by themselves without entering a cell.
Cell theory define Cells as the basis of life in the universe, all living organisms are made of cell,
and all cells created by other old cells. There are many types of cells that can be categorize.

things. Golgi apparatus is sacs of cisterna, that looks like folds. Golgi modifies, describes, packs,

Design Of Image Capture, Display, Colour Processing And...
INTRODUCTION
Aim: Throughout this laboratory we aimed to understand the processes used to achieve the
development of image capture, display, colour processing and finally object tracking. In particular,
we aim to learn the I2C protocols to program the registers used to configure the camera, how to
convert a raw image to a full colour image, detect a selected colour and then track it.
Block Diagrams and images for the image processing steps:
The block diagram in Figure 1, illustrates the processing blocks that were created to being the
image processing steps. It also shows the variables created in the code and how they interact to
produce the initial output of display an image from the camera to the screen. The clock for the
640x480 (frame size 800x525) display image runs at a frequency of 25.2 MHz and the clock for
the camera runs at a frequency of 48.825 MHz to synchronize the display. The I2C setup,
involves using I2C protocols to program registers within the camera. It is a two wire protocol,
where one wire acts as the clock to pass from the FPGA to the device, and the other wire is the data
wire which is bidirectional. The data wire is a top level entity and requires the setup module to have
3 data connections. These are input data from the camera to the controller, output data from the
FPGA controller to the camera and output enable (tristate control), which determines whether the
data is input or output.
Producing the image on the VGA display, involves using

The Maze Runner Thomas Compare And Contrast
Thomas, from The Maze Runner by James Dashner, is courageous, intelligent, and quick to
think on his feet. He doesn t remember his past, only his name. He is brought to the Glade by
WICKED, an organization that wants to fight the Flare. There are many similarities and
differences between us. One similarity between us is that we are both loyal to our friends and
we ve both been betrayed by them. We care for our friends and would do anything to help them.
For example, Thomas showed this when he ran through the doors right before they closed to save
Alby and Minho. We also both have been betrayed by our friends, like how Thomas was betrayed
by Theresa and Alby. We have more differences between us than similarities. One of them is that

Network Administrator Has Higher Level Of Control
LAN stands for Local Area Network. It is a type of network that covers a greater distance and it
interconnects computers and devices either wired or wireless. LAN is mainly used in private
organisations such as college or university. More or less everyone uses wireless router at home
these days and the user is able to connect between 5 10 devices wirelessly. The user can share the
broadband or the connection with ADSL by using Ethernet cables. Smaller LANs can connect at
least 2 3 computers using one cable. It also depends on the size of the organisation. Smaller
LANs are easier to manage. The users need to be careful when using larger LANs and need to
make sure that the network within it is transmitted efficiently. The user can increase the number
of computers connected by using routers and switches. This ensures that the network
administrator has higher level of control over the network. IEEE 802.3 is the wired Ethernet
used by LAN and therefore it is related to LAN. The set up cost for LAN is relatively cheap.
WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It is a type of network that interconnects the LANs
meaning it connects the LANs together over large distance. WAN is used in school or college
or in a joint network academy (Super Janet). WANs can be both public and private. Frame replay
is one type of technology used by WAN. Frame relay is a standardised packet based protocol that
is used for high speed data transmission to connect devices by WAN. MPLS stands for

Antigone or Creon as the Tragic Hero in Antigone Essay
A tragic hero is a character in a play that is known for being dignified but has a flaw that assists in
his or her downfall. Antigone is a Greek tragic piece written by Sophocles. In the theatrical
production the use of power and morality versus law is evident. The promotion to the conflict was
that Creoncreated a law in which enabled Polynieces, Antigone s brother, to be buried in the
proper way. As it is the way of the gods Antigone found it fit to bury her brother causing her to
disobey the law of Thebes. Both Antigone and Creon, the main characters, could represent a tragic
hero. However Creon is more eligible for being the tragic hero because he fits the definition.

Creon orders the guards to take Antigone away not caring for his son s feelings, since she is his
fiancГ©e. Creon feels the law should stand despite the fact that Antigone was his niece or how
moral her act was. Bring her [Antigone] out! Let her die before his eyes... (Scene 3, 130). This
quotes shows that Creon took his position as king seriously to the point where in he was willing
to sacrifice the feelings of his own son. He was willing to be the cause of son s destruction just
to prove that he is the king and always right. I will go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5,
102,104). Not only does this quote show leadership but also stubbornness he was risking his
relationship with his son to prove that he was the leader of Thebes. Creon says another quote
which shows his loyalty to his kingdom, I call to God to witness that if I saw my country headed
for ruin, I should not be afraid to speak out plainly, (Sophocles, scene 1,24 26). It shows his strong
sense of leadership which catches up with him in the end causing destruction.
Tragic heroes have identifiable flaws which cause their destruction. In this situation Creon s major
flaw was that he was self centered, and never listened he thought he was always right. Haemon
points out that Creon needs to stop being narrow minded and stubborn, ...Not far off when you
shall pay back corpse for corpse... (Scene 5, 72 73). Teiresias the fortune teller warns Creon that his

Macbeth Is Evil
What defines a villain? Is it a person who whose actions has negatively affected society? Acted
immoral? Has done something that is scorned down upon by society? Or is it simply a person
who has done wrong in general? Many argue that a villain is Yes to all these questions but I
believe otherwise. I believe that a villain is not just someone who has done wrong, or acted
immorally, but someone who has done those things without reason. The more we think about it,
the more we see how unlikely these crimes apply to reality and how much they evade us from the
truth of the villain world. The character Macbeth in the tragedy of Macbeth and Jae Hee in The
Girl Who See Smells are two outstanding examples of the misconception of who a villain really...

fans have insisted upon calling him the barcode murderer , for he would often slit the wrists of
the victims in resemblance to a barcode. However, at the end of the drama, I did not curse him
out, nor did I wish he were dead. Instead, I felt sympathy and remorse for his wrongful deeds. At
this point, you re probably thinking What a strange, strange person. Why would she even justify

was simply his experiences that led him to make the decisions that he did. His childhood life
had been terrifying in the sense that his whole family had been previously slaughtered by
another man. Determined to exert revenge, Jae Hee embodies his life around the idea of
catching the murder and everyone he loves, which he does so successfully. Now, if you think
about this for a moment, the idea of protecting your loved ones through a method of revenge isn

What Is Wrong To Take Supplies From Work Wrong
We re just talking about a few lousy nails, said Archie Bunker in response to an accusation made
about his most recent act at work. Mr. Bunker had allegedly taken a box of nails without the
permission of his employer, yet, Mr. Bunker is not the only person committing this crime. Minimal
theft is a problem that people seem to think is morally acceptable, significantly more if the item
came from work. Although it is a small miscellaneous item, the quantity and the rate of which an
item is taken can impact the total profit from the employers. Regardless of the number or price of
the merchandise taken, it is theft nonetheless. Even using or borrowing equipment is ethically
unacceptable since the owner is not aware of it. Without a doubt, taking and using supplies from
work is improper behavior.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When workers take small objects from their workplace, they are taking items that are pennies on
the dollar. However when all of the pennies are counted on a grand scale, they accumulate to
massive amounts of dollars. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, the workers are
taking profits from their employers. The profits taken have long lasting effects that the workers are
not seeing. Companies and corporations will start cutting paychecks, increasing prices, and even
firing their employees when their net revenue starts declining. This is a situation where everyone
loses; the employees get their wages cut, the consumers become affected by inflation, and the
owners have to take preventative measures just to keep their companies afloat. These occurring

An Investigation of Foreign Direct Investment in Indian Banking Sector L.Kannan
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays an important role in the economic development of a country.
The Indian banking system is radically different from those common in other countries due to its
unique geographic, social and economic characteristics. India has a huge population, different
cultures in different parts of the country and also disparities in income. In this research paper

Also in India the population spread among rural and urban areas is also skewed in the favour of
urban areas. All these features reflect in the volume and structure of the Indian banking system.
Further in order to fulfill the requirements to the government policy it has been subjected to
different nationalization schemes at different times. RBI credit policies form the guidelines for
banks in India. Since they had to satisfy the domestic obligations, the banks have so far been
confined within the Indian borders. Banking in India originated in the last decades of the 18th
century. The first banks were The General Bankof India, which started in 1786, and Bank of
Hindustan, which started in 1770; both are now defunct. The oldest bank in existence in India is
the State Bank of India, which originated in the Bank of Calcutta in June 1806, which almost
immediately became the Bank of Bengal.

Theme Of Through The Tunnel
People often learn a lot about themselves through their own decisions and struggles. Through the
Tunnel by Doris Lessing is about an eleven year old boy named Jerry. During vacation in France,
the boy and his mother enjoy themselves daily by the shore. The boy wants to imitate the French
boys who swim through a challenging tunnel, and he overcomes this challenge eventually. Form the
safe beach to the tunnel, Jerry s maturity is tested. The setting in Through the Tunnel has an impact
on the characters, the plot, and the symbols.
One way the setting has an impact involves the characters. For example, it is so important for
Jerry to swim through the tunnel. He wanted to be with the older boys and be grown up. Every
day on his vacation he would tell himself something very specific. On the day before they left, he
would do it. (4) Jerry kept reminding himself that he must go through the tunnel. He never gave
up practicing swimming to the tunnel, but always kept trying. Even though there are times
where he left like he is not going to make it. Another example is even though Jerry is alone, he
still wanted to make sure his mother is alright. There she is, a speak of yellow under an umbrella
that looked like a slice of orange peel . (2) When Jerry swam out into the deepness, he could see
his mother because then the rocks are less in the way. Jerry likes knowing that his mother is there
for him when he needs her, and that she is okay. The final example about the setting

Nike And Sweatshop Practices During Asian Pacific Region
Nike and Sweatshop Practices in Asian Pacific Region The introduction and growth of
globalization in the developing world coupled with the rise of Multi National Corporations have
produced an onslaught on factory workers who are forced to work in sweatshops for little or no
pay. A business dictionary defines globalization as the worldwide movement towards economic,
financial, trade and communications integration. Globalization points towards the opening of
local and nationalistic perspectives to a broader outlook of a unified and independent world
with free transfer of capital goods and services across national borders. The transfer of these
goods and services is done by Multi National Corporations (MNCs). MNCs continue to move
their factories overseas to evade the strict regulatory guidelines that embody employees rights and
privileges. Moreover, developing countries provide access to a vast pool of cheap labor. Utilizing
cheap labor in less developed countries enables MNCs to continue to meet the demands of
consumers in the developed countries as well as their bottom line. To gain competitive advantage in
the market and increase profits, MNCs conduct business around the world utilizing the availability
of cheap labor. Even though government has a part to play in protecting the human and
environmental resources within host countries the question is should MNCs be allowed to abuse,
exploit and violate the rights of these workers? Throughout the 1990s, Nikewas

Review Of The City Of Ladies
The Role of Stories in The City of Ladies Christine De Pizan s The City of Ladies is
acknowledged as one of the earliest feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason tells Christine
numerous stories about significant female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the
City of Ladies. Lady Reason tells Christine various stories to expunge the propagated lies men
have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will
serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the base of protection in the city. However, the
argument about the city s selective acceptance is brought into question because it appears to
accept the very principals Lady Reason is trying to prove wrong. This assumption is incorrect
because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance
because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is
essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues
with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in
the story of The City of Ladies. Not unlike the reality of her situation the character Christine is very
well read, and clearly an intellectual who values the pursuit of knowledge. However, she faces a
crisis of identity following a revelation that most philosophical and literary works condemn
womankind. She convinces herself that women must

The Impact That Directive Leaders, And Devil s Advocates
The purpose of this article was to evaluate the impact that directive leaders, participative leaders,
and devil s advocates can have on group decision making particularly the overall quality of the final
decision, the process of the group decision making, and five groupthink symptoms for decision
making groups. Experimenters directly manipulated the style of leadershipbeing applied as well as

aspects of group decision making. This experiment also included measurements of the objective and

In keeping with this role play, the directive leader revealed his ideal solution to the rest of the
group within the first two minutes of the session, discouraged others from providing alternative
solutions, stressed the importance of being unanimous, and accentuated his prior experience in
scenarios that were similar to the Lost at Sea task. On the contrary, the participative leader s role
was to encourage group member participation and explore various different alternative solutions.
The confederate group members assigned to play the role of devil s advocate were to challenge
any solutions that the group leader or other group members presented, remind the group of the
significance of the decision making process for choosing the best possible solution, encourage
group members to present differing alternatives in response to one another s offered solutions, and
promote the rationalization or substantiation for all solutions presented. In contrast, when the
assigned confederate member of the group was not playing the role of devil s advocate, he did not
challenge the solution presented by the leader, did not advocate for any presented solutions, and
behaved like any other group member.
To complete this study each group was asked to form a group decision based on the Lost at Sea
Survival task. This particular task was chosen due to its ability to produce a resolution that can be
quantitatively evaluated for group decision quality.

Tutoring Should Be Allowed In Schools
The need for tutors is overwhelming. Tutors help fill the gap between the teachers and the students.
With so many students in each classroom, the teacher can t give each student the one on one
attention that some students need. This is where tutors come in to play. Tutors have been a key
instrument ineducation since as far back as the 1500 s (Gordon 9). Tutoring is almost as old as
educating children. Tutoring younger students is also still going strong in the twentieth century.
Today it is more~important than ever due to the increase in students and low budgets that some
schools have. As stated by Edward E. Gordon in his book, Centuries of Tutoring Schoolinghas
dominated the twentieth century, but tutoring still holds an important... Show more content on

When you tutor or volunteer you are doing a service for your community and for yourself.
Some of the reasons that tutoring is needed in society are outlined next. According to Dorothy
Lloyd, the trend of the 60 s included a rapidly changing population of students whose educational
needs became difficult to meet due to their mobility and lack of achievement. This change
stimulated a rise in tutor programs (46). As society became increasingly industrialized, families
moved from city to city and their children went with them. Thus making it hard for teachers and
schools to form a lasting bond between the children and the teachers.
The education systems are radically changing due to the fact that previous material and techniques
believed to be successful were no longer effective. The importance of education in modern society
led to a sense of depression about the need to provide a good education. This need is supported by
Reisner, Petry, Armigage (1990),who regarded tutoring and mentoringas highly relevant methods of
intervention that addressed national, state, and local priorities (Lloyd 50). The age of the computer
is an example of this. You can no longer do just about anything without a computer. If school
districts don t have access to computers then their students are left behind.
The classroom sizes are increasing every year and the one on one attention is being lost in the
process, Carter states in School Volunteers: What They Do How They Do

Religion Assessment Ezekiel was a young priest when he was growing up, he was always

after the first exiles arrived in Babylon, he began preaching. When Ezekiel received the messages

  • 2. Essay on BIS 320 Week 3 Individual Assignment Determining Databases and Communications BIS/320 Scenario 1 Today s world is one that is driven by technology. It s almost a get on board or get left behind situation. Getting dressed, driving to the mall, and walking around shopping are being replaced by staying in pajamas, walking to a computer, and shopping on Amazon.com. There are benefits to both situations but it s up to choose how they would like to conduct business. As business men and women the situation can become a bit more complicated. The following examples help to clarify this statement. As a marketing assistant that s in charge of setting up the company booth at trade shows to generate new business, it s very critical that everything be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A few examples of relationships that would need to be tracked are: a. Quantity of parts vs. shipping cost. b. Required date parts desired vs. shipping cost. c. Parts needed vs. booth setup vs. trade show location. Although it s possible to put just about any process in an excel spreadsheet, the concern is how much time it would take to accomplish all of the required data entry. Why not use a database software program such as Gigatrak to easily barcode and track all of the parts? This software can then be combined with an Excel spreadsheet if the person has more of a comfort level with it. (Asset Tracking, 2010) In this particular example the preference would be to use a personal database management system (DBMS). Why? Based on personal need and the expectations placed on the database there would have to be significant growth expected to warrant the use of an enterprise database. An enterprise database is designed for use with corporations or large businesses that plan to move large amounts of data or conduct many simultaneous transactions ( To Use or Not to Use a Database? That Is the Question , 2013). Also due to the relatively straightforward process of checking out booth parts and components there really is no need for using a Decision Support System. If there were multiple marketing assistants mixing and matching parts and trying to make deadlines then there could be the possible need of a DSS. Scenario 2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Having High School Does only having a high school diploma mean you re unsuccessful? This is a topic that receives a lot of attention in todays society. From political campaigns revolving completely around the promise of free college education to the argument that many high schools need less book classes and more hands on vocational classes. In many families in the current time they are the first members of their families to attend college. However with all the arguments there are still on question that is left unanswered does only having a high schooldiploma mean that you are unsuccessful? Just eighteen precent of recent college graduates with student loans of over fifty thousand dollars believe that the debt of their educationwas truly worth it. Is the debt worth the education that you gain or is the work experience you gain out of high school with your diploma better? ($50,000) The average cost to attend a four year college is 129,620 dollars which breaks down to 32,405 dollars per year. The average family income in the United States is a little over 51,000 dollars per year. With the price of college being so high and the average family income as low as it is makes the option for a lot of high students out of the question when they graduate high school. • 4. Roger Bushell s Life In The Concentration Camp Roger Bushell was an Auxiliary Air Force pilot who organized and led the escape from the infamous German prison camp Stalag Luft III. Roger was first made into a prisoner of war (POW) when he arrived at Dulag Luft. He was made into a permanent part of the British staff under senior British officer Wing Commander Harry Day. His job in the POW camp was to help new air force captured soldiers get used to their own life as a POW. Roger was always thinking about escape. He quickly became friends with Fleet Air Arm pilot Jimmy Buckley and Day. The three of them soon formed a committee known for being responsible for all escape attempts. In Rogers childhood he could swear fluently in English, Afrikaans, and Kaffir, and he could spit an incredible distance. This led to him being disliked and beat by other boys. Other parents also disliked Roger a great deal. During the war he was captured by the Germans and put in to a concentration camp. This led to him being considered a Prisoner of Waror a (POW) for short. Life in the concentration camp was terrible. The German security guards were armed with torches and steel spikes just to torment the already dying prisoners. This made the prisoners very angry and they wanted to escape, so they started digging tunnels. Though Eventually the Germans caught on. They dug sound detectors into the ground around the barbed wire fences at the border of the camp to pick up the tunnel digging sounds, and like clockwork they found tunnel after tunnel. There were also odd escape ways that the Germans had no way of picking up on; only a few people escaped this way. One prisoner dressed up as a ferret and crawled away to freedom, and the Germans didn t suspect a thing. If you were caught doing something undesirable as a (POW) there were severe ... • 5. My Great Grandfather In 1897, my great great grandfather was born in North Carolina. His name was Roy Hudson. He served in the army in World War One and he died in 1960 from a lengthy issue with his heart. His heart issues started when he developed pleurisy, most likely from sleeping on the cold, wet ground while in the Army during World War One. He was only sixty three years old when he died. Just before he died, he gave his wife, my great great grandmother, his glasses, a book, and a billfold. My great great grandmother s name was Roland Goddard. She was born in 1898 in North Carolina, and her parents died when she was only eight years old. She was very active in her community, and acted in community plays. She was very kind, and she sang beautifully. In 1979, she died when she was eighty one years old. One of RolandВґs children, Doris Hudson, was born in North Carolina in 1927. She is my great grandmother, and she is still living. She is ninety years old and I call her Gaga. She fell a few months ago and could not walk for a while, but she recovered and is now able to walk slowly. When I was too young to go to daycare, she would babysit me all day. She thought that is was alright for me to eat cookies when I could barely eat solid food. She also thought that I was hungry every time that I cried, therefore I was a very chubby baby. She had three children; Bobby Rose, Jacquelyn Jackie Rose, and Jerry Rose. Jackie is my grandmother. She was born in Virginia, but moved to Buras, Louisiana, then later moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She played outfield on a semi professional softball team, and she was a teacher, although she retired after the 2016 2017 school year. She had two children; Michael Marino, and Jamie Marino. Jamie is my mother. She was born in Virginia, but moved to Buras, Louisiana, then to Shreveport, Louisiana. She currently teaches music at Sunset Acres Elementary, but she has held other teaching jobs as an English or history teacher. She received her Bachelor s degree in teaching at LSUS, and received her Master s degree in teaching through online classes at Northwestern University. Today is the 10 year anniversary of the uprisings in East Berlin which started with the peaceful demonstration of workers building a memorial to Stalin in Stalinallee. Their protest against the increased work norms, the lack of consumer goods, high price of food and low pension provisions took them to the Trade Union Head Quarters where they were swiftly joined by others. The protest quickly became a political one, but when not a single high ranking SED member came out to reason with the crowd, it moved on to the Haus der Ministerien, where the protesters reported contradictory messages. Walter, do you believe that the way in which East Germany dealt with the uprising was appropriate? The public were demanding to be listened to and it seems as though they were only answered with violence. Ulbricht: Violence was a necessary force at the time of the uprising. The mental pollution that had been seeping in from the West was too toxic to not take severe action. We had to turn to the Soviet Union for military support. In total, around 16 Soviet divisions with 20,000 soldiers as well as 8,000 Kasernierte Volkspolizei members were used to stop the Uprising and show the people of East Germany that they had no reason to be so disheartened by the government, despite the attempts by western agencies to disrupt the national stability and legitimacy of the SED. It was clear that the increasing influence the West was bringing to our people needed to stop and we therefore had to ensure that the public understood the seriousness of going against the successful politics of the GDR. • 7. The Cabinet Of Doctor Calligari Lesson 3 Expressionism is to take a individual view of the world and to distort it radically in order to invoke a certain mood, feeling, or idea, rather than making an explicit statement. During the First World War, the imperial government of Germany prohibited all foreign films and encouraged the production of new film that supported the war effort through propaganda and distraction. Because the whole idea of expressionist films is to invoke a certain mood in the viewer and not really make any clear statements, they were the perfect mechanism to distract the German people from the social stress and economic instability created by the war. There s perhaps no greater example of expressionist film than The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari by Robert Wiene. Siegfried Kracauer dubbed the film revolutionary not only because of its expressionist form, but also because of its political message.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The entire film avoids all sorts of realism by avoiding any strait or perpendicular lines, as well as distorting many objects, buildings, and backgrounds to invoke certain moods, such as anxiety and confusion. The short novel is packed with tons of humor, not leaving any joke untold. However, despite being by far the funniest book I ve ever read, it discusses some fascinating subjects, both philosophically and scientifically. Because Hitchhiker s Guide is such a fantastic book, I propose a course based around discussing the topics covered in the book and learning about the science and philosophy behind the book. The course would allow for in depth discussions of a plethora of topics like time travel and even the existence of God. It would be great for honors students because it would take advantage of their natural urge to learn and debate as well as teach students about material that... Aside from discussing the topics discussed by the book, the course could take a literary turn and discuss the use of humor and writing of the book. Douglas Adams has a unique sense of humor, which is largely dominated by dry, absurdly matter of fact statements. This would add a literary perspective to a course that already discusses STEM and philosophical subjects. Part of the course would require reading The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, as well as reading The Science of the Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy by Michael Hanlon, a book that discusses the same things the course would, and would give students a jumping off point for class discussions. • 11. The History Of Mathematics In A Large Nutshell Math through the Ages provides an interesting and concise analysis of the mathematical culture of different societies in history. The section The History of Mathematics in a Large Nutshell provides an interesting discussion of Greek mathematics. The mathematics of the culture both influenced and was influenced by the culture of the society. The Greeks were most likely the most important historical society in the Western world. They spread their vast knowledge and affected the mathematical traditions of the world. According to Greek historians, their mathematical pursuits began somewhere around 600 B.C.E. Our earliest record of Greek mathematics, however, is from 300 B.C.E. Unfortunately, most of what we know about the Greek mathematical tradition comes from the 3rd and 4th century. These works seem to do a decent job at preserving the past, but how well they preserve the works scholars cannot know (Berlinghoff Gouvea, 2004, p. 14). One reason for the Greeks extensive influence on mathematics was the broad range of Greek speaking people. Greek mathematics is not limited to Greece, but rather extends throughout the Mediterranean world. Greek was the language of the educated in most of the Mediterranean. Building on the work of the Egyptians, the Greeks made many great mathematical achievements (Berlinghoff Gouvea, 2004, p. 15). Kimberly Belflower s Play Lost Girl Lost Girl written by Kimberly Belflower, a student at the University of Texas in Austin from New York who writes plays with fresh emotions and beautiful language that inspect the relationship between young women s internal and external lives. Lost Girl is a play about adult Wendy Darling, the girl who when younger ran away with the well known Peter Pan. More specifically the play is about Wendy dwelling on her past with Peter and past in Neverland. She is obsessed with him, the lost boy who took her flying and gave her the childhood adventure any child only dreams to be a part of. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Wendy being the dynamic antagonist of this play it was destin for her to change in some way on the playwright. From the beginning when she mentions thinking about Peter for eight minutes a day to when she realizes that she not only leaves eight minutes to think about him, but she lets him affect her life; even though they have not seen each other in years. This implication takes place not only in the play but in the real world as well. I do not agree to holding onto things that are not tangible. Holding on to a feeling you had when one was younger does not help a person as an adult. It will start to affect the things you do or the things you should be doing. It will affect the people around you, just like Wendy s situation, it will cause conflict between the ones that you are close to. No one around you wants to see their loved one or best friend clinging on to a feeling they should have no problem letting go of. • 18. The Crusades Of The Middle Ages During the Middle Ages, there was a series of seven wars that lasted seven centuries known as the Crusades. Each Crusader Army had one major goal: to recapture Jerusalem from the Seljuk Turks, the land where Jesus had been crucified. Historical narratives often depict the first Crusaders as warriors and religious heroes because they succeeded in temporarily recapturing the Holy Land. While the Second Crusade depicted the crusaders as a mass failure when they lost the land they were protecting, the third crusade portrayed them as religious heroes once again, when Richard the Lionheart almost captured the Holy Land again. However, the Fourth Crusadeshattered all hopes of recapturing Jerusalem. The Roman Catholic people had high expectations for the war, but it ended horribly when the crusaders attacked their own allies in Constantinople. This tragedy was a major turning point during these wars because it changed how the crusaders were viewed. The failure of the 4th crusaders forces historians to wonder how a well trained army failed to attack their enemies and instead attacked the very people they wanted to protect. When one examines the issues encountered by the crusaders, the greediness of the Venetians, the political struggles of Constantinople, and the spread of Greek cultures, one can better understand the cause and effect of the Fourth crusade. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion Kingat Hong Kong Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. Harrison Bergeron fought the government to free him and his society of the handicaps that are used to create a perfectly equal world. Also, what is equality? Equality is not a good quality for a society because, there is no room for change, and no one has the motivation to continue. The definition of equality is the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. There are other suggestions made by scholars, most of which they are unable to support. OSA Pathogenesis Paper Though overweight and an excess of regional adipose tissue are considered major risk factors for OSA, there are also other interacting elements in OSA pathogenesis, such as craniofacial abnormalities and an altered UA structure. The rationale of using image and speech analysis in OSA assessment can be found on works such as Lee et al. [3, 4] and Davidson et al. [5], where the evolutionary changes in physiological characteristics such as craniofacial morphology or acquisition of speech are connected to the appearance of OSA from an anatomical basis. Electric start is the single most important option that should be incorporated on all models for safety reasons. The profile of users in a shop or garage setting differs greatly from users in a home. Users in a shop or garage are more likely to be mechanically inclined. Additionally, safety features are arguably more important in a home than in a shop or garage. In a home, the heater is typically closer to combustibles, including furniture, curtains, and carpet. Due to these variables, CSH should market an indoor/outdoor heater and an outdoor only heater. The only necessary option on the outdoor heater is the electric start, as previously discussed. A shop or garage user will likely be more mechanically inclined and able to adjust the wick accurately. A thermostat shouldn t be needed because the unit will less likely be near combustibles. Overheating due to flare ups will not be as big of an issue either because of the surroundings, not to mention the user is more likely to notice flare ups because the unit will only be operating when he or she is in the garage or shop, in most cases. A removable tank would also not be necessary since fill up is easier outdoors. On the other hand, the indoor/outdoor heater should have three options incorporated on the base model. This assumption is incorrect because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in the story of The City of Ladies. Not unlike the reality of her situation the character Christine is very well read, and clearly an intellectual who values the pursuit of knowledge. However, she faces a crisis of identity following a revelation that most philosophical and literary works condemn womankind. She convinces herself that women must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Impact That Directive Leaders, And Devil s Advocates The purpose of this article was to evaluate the impact that directive leaders, participative leaders, and devil s advocates can have on group decision making particularly the overall quality of the final decision, the process of the group decision making, and five groupthink symptoms for decision making groups. Experimenters directly manipulated the style of leadershipbeing applied as well as devil s advocacy in comparison to previous studies which also separately observed these same aspects of group decision making. This experiment also included measurements of the objective and subjective outcomes of group decision making by including the quality of the decision, the amount of disagreements before a group decision was reached, and any... In keeping with this role play, the directive leader revealed his ideal solution to the rest of the group within the first two minutes of the session, discouraged others from providing alternative solutions, stressed the importance of being unanimous, and accentuated his prior experience in scenarios that were similar to the Lost at Sea task. On the contrary, the participative leader s role was to encourage group member participation and explore various different alternative solutions. The confederate group members assigned to play the role of devil s advocate were to challenge any solutions that the group leader or other group members presented, remind the group of the significance of the decision making process for choosing the best possible solution, encourage group members to present differing alternatives in response to one another s offered solutions, and promote the rationalization or substantiation for all solutions presented. In contrast, when the assigned confederate member of the group was not playing the role of devil s advocate, he did not challenge the solution presented by the leader, did not advocate for any presented solutions, and behaved like any other group member. To complete this study each group was asked to form a group decision based on the Lost at Sea Survival task. This particular task was chosen due to its ability to produce a resolution that can be quantitatively evaluated for group decision quality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Tutoring Should Be Allowed In Schools The need for tutors is overwhelming. Tutors help fill the gap between the teachers and the students. With so many students in each classroom, the teacher can t give each student the one on one attention that some students need. This is where tutors come in to play. Tutors have been a key instrument ineducation since as far back as the 1500 s (Gordon 9). Tutoring is almost as old as educating children. Tutoring younger students is also still going strong in the twentieth century. Today it is more~important than ever due to the increase in students and low budgets that some schools have. As stated by Edward E. Gordon in his book, Centuries of Tutoring Schoolinghas dominated the twentieth century, but tutoring still holds an important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When you tutor or volunteer you are doing a service for your community and for yourself. Some of the reasons that tutoring is needed in society are outlined next. According to Dorothy Lloyd, the trend of the 60 s included a rapidly changing population of students whose educational needs became difficult to meet due to their mobility and lack of achievement. This change stimulated a rise in tutor programs (46). As society became increasingly industrialized, families moved from city to city and their children went with them. Thus making it hard for teachers and schools to form a lasting bond between the children and the teachers. The education systems are radically changing due to the fact that previous material and techniques believed to be successful were no longer effective. The importance of education in modern society led to a sense of depression about the need to provide a good education. This need is supported by Reisner, Petry, Armigage (1990),who regarded tutoring and mentoringas highly relevant methods of intervention that addressed national, state, and local priorities (Lloyd 50). The age of the computer is an example of this. You can no longer do just about anything without a computer. If school districts don t have access to computers then their students are left behind. The classroom sizes are increasing every year and the one on one attention is being lost in the process, Carter states in School Volunteers: What They Do How They Do ... • 52. Community Assessment Assessment History I did my community assessment paper on Bristol Township, which was located in Bristol, Pennsylvania. Bristol Township is been known to be one of the oldest communities in Pennsylvania. In 1692, it was once incorporated as Buckingham Township before the name changed in 1702 to become what is now Bristol ( Wilson, 2014).
