Rhetorical Analysis Of Apollo 11
The worldwide attention brought about by the success of the Apollo 11 moon landing was used by
many speakers and writers to push forward their own agenda or opinions using a variety of rhetorical
appeals and strategies. The texts, Man s First Step on the Moon , a news article by the Times of
London, In Event of Moon Disaster , a prepared speech to be spoken by President Nixon written by
William Safire, The July 16, 1969, Launch: A Symbol of Man s Greatness , a commentary by
philosopher Ayn Rand, and Transported , a political cartoon by Herblock, were all made in occasion of
the Apollo 11 mission and directed toward the viewers worldwide but each with a different purpose
and rhetorical appeal. Each of the four texts create an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done by establishing shared values between the speaker and audience and strong uses of
pathos. Despite this speech being written by William Safire, it was to be spoken by President Nixon to
establish automatic credibility due to him being the leader of the United States, one of the most
powerful countries. This use of ethos strengthens the argument of persevering through this difficulty
since the persona of the speaker is that of a compassionate, but stern figure that is meant to serve as
inspiration as to how the audience should act. In addition, the persona works in conjunction with
pathos to evoke strong emotions of sympathy and nationalism. This is seen in the third paragraph
where the phrase, They will be mourned.. is used as an anastrophe to greater emphasize the need to
remember and feel sorrow for the brave astronauts who gave their lives to further humanity. Their
sacrifice is later built further in the following paragraphs by comparing their achievements to those of
ancient times and how they ll never be forgotten. Safire s speech utilizes the automatic credibility
given by the president and emphasizes key points using rhetorical devices to establish shared values in
order to further evoke sympathy and later patriotism from the audience. Third, the commentary, The

Benefits Of Small Town Living
Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in Houston, Texas.
When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I
currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it
and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town
living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and
friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of
transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low
paying jobs and housing. Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can
see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future. I grew up, the
majority of my live, in a town in central Illinois, Kincaid, or better known as South Fork because of
the co op with the schools around us in sports. This town is approximately 20 miles southeast of
Springfield, and is only seven miles west from the nearest town, with many opportunities that my
town did not offer (City data).
With a total population of 1,495, including the town of Tovey about a mile away, as of July 1, 2015
Kincaid is ranked as number 587 of 1,367 as being a small town in Illinois (Kincaid, IL). Kincaid is
only about 0.62 square miles in land areas, and is located in

Abstract Art, Character Design, And Pencil Tests
For my case study the three pieces of artwork that I ll be talking about revolve around animation, as
that is my field of study. The artwork I chose will range from concept art, character design, and pencil
tests. First let s take a look at Hayao Miyazaki s concept art for one of his movies known as Spirited
Away, which was released in the United States in 2002. The movie appears to be satire, but that isn t
my purpose. I have five young female friends who are about the same age as Hiiragi san*, and I spend
every summer with them at my mountain cabin. I wanted to make a movie they could enjoy. That is
why I started this film, and that is my true purpose (Shoten). Those were the words of Miyazaki,
translated by Ryoko Toyama, showing that this image and the movie s purpose in general was to
provide entertainment. The intended audience for all Studio Ghibli films is family, and especially
children. Miyazaki s goal from his art is to make movies that everyone can enjoy, as stated above.
Getting back to this specific image, it is most likely a mixed media of watercolor, acrylic paint, and
probably edited with a computer, as it is a final background that was used in the movie. Immediately
you can see balance within this piece. While both sides are not exactly symmetrical it gives off that
implication by having both sides very similar if you were to split the image down the middle,
especially the train that almost appears that way on it s own. It also has a nice sense of

Technology And The Security Of The Public Confidence
Introduction
Imagine going about your weekly errands, making purchases like you normally would when you hand
the cashier your card for payment and it declines. You call the bank only to find out that your account
has been drained of all its funds. This experience leaves you confused, who, how and why has this
happened, and for the most part the answers do not come as quickly as you would, like or even at all.
This issue plays out day after day for thousands of consumers as merchant data breaches and
compromises have left millions of consumer information exposed. These recent compromises in
merchant systems and cyber attacks have exposed a deficiency in the security used to protect the
public. This largely in part to outdated technology and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hackers use those footholds to crawl through corporate networks until they gain access to the in
store cash register systems. From there, criminals collect payment card data off the cash register
systems and send it back to their servers abroad . (Perloth, N. (2014, August 22, P6). This has led to
fall out both from the public as well as industries scrambling to fix the situation before it gets any
worse.
The recent compromise of Target has exposed a more underlying issue of merchant s inability to
monitor and secure the payment systems and the databases that store consumer card information.
When it comes to the technology in place that monitors and secure customer information, there are no
active monitoring of the systems. There will need to be an overhaul of the current technology in place
by these organizations, if they hope to combat fraud and protect consumers from data breaches and
merchant compromises. (Heun, D. (2013).
Fall Out From Data Breaches
Cyber Attacks have forced industries to assess many areas of security as well as policies and
procedures currently in place that protect sensitive information. Companies have lost billions of
dollars as part these breaches, as they are forced to reimburse consumers for transactions and exposure
of their identities. A report by the

Abstract
Neohydatothrips samayunkur, a thrips species infest African marigold, is recorded from Egypt for the
first time. A detailed description is given of how to identify this thrips species. Tagetes erecta L. were
grown in the experimental farm at Giza governorate, Egypt. The Sampling was carried out during mid
April to late July and from early September to late December, (2013 2014). A weekly sample
randomly selected and examined for the presence of thrips. Identification was based on the
morphological characters. N. samayunkur adult body is bicolor, dark brown with abdominal segments

During The Romantic Era, Civil Rights Movements Began To
During the Romantic Era, civil rights movements began to gain strength. Through various methods,
advocates of such causes garnered support and brought attention to perceived problems in the status of
various peoples. Poetry was one of these methods, but the specifics of its implementation, from
appeals to literary devices, varied. Washing Day by Anna Lutita Barbauld used emotions and imagery
to support women s rights, but The Negro s Complaint, an abolitionist poem by Cowper, focused on
ethics to sway its readers.
The purpose of Washing Day is evident by the first stanza; Barbauld indicates that the poem focuses
on the struggles wives face during washing day with the lines Come, Muse, and sing the dreaded
washing day/ Ye who beneath ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same manner as the rain, the husbands are portrayed as major inconveniences worsening an
already miserable day. The narrator describes the women s apprehension of their husbands coming
with more demands such as sewing their stockings to accomplish this (Barbauld 33 40). With these
descriptions, Barbauld paints the men as one of the causes of the wives sadness.
In the later stanzas of the poem, the narrator switches to her own perspective as a child watching the
women go through the motions of washing day. Her naivety and ignorance strengthen Barbauld s
emotional appeal by providing a contrast to earlier descriptions of the wives view, but this perspective
s odd similarity to the men s own makes the strongest impact on the reader. As the women worked, the
narrator sought affection and food as she would on any other day; she didn t understand why her
mother and the other women brushed her aside in favor of working (Barbauld 58 65). Since she was a
child, to her, the day was the same as any other. As she listened to her mother urge haste in the chores,
she wondered as to the purpose of washing day (Barbauld 74 79). The ending lines capture the
purpose of these stanzas: The sports of children and the toils of men/ Earth, air, and sky, and ocean,
hath its bubbles/ And verse is one of them this most of all (Barbauld 84 86). Per these lines, everything
from the works of men to the play of children seems to have value, but the labor of women doesn t in

Ecotopia Big Wood Summary
In my excerpt of the reading, In Ecotopia s Big Wood s, Weston laments on Ecotopia s vast forests that
are treated with human dignity. The forests are looked at in a religious matter and treated like family.
The logging system includes education on the importance of trees in nature and how they must be
preserved by any means necessary. Weston even writes about a young man, who he points out did not
seem under the influence, leaning on a tree and saying, Brother Tree! . This appears to be the
consensus of every citizen in Ecotopia. The scientists of Ecotopia have even developed biodegradable
plastics out of tree pulp. Trees and the forests of Ecotopia are without a doubt a major factor in the
Ecotopian economy. Weston points out that in the America of the time, and arguably the America of
today, would find this to be not only a huge contradiction but also an economic penalty as a waste of
time. In America, time is money and the time it takes to reforest a logged forest, let alone teaching
those who are doing the logging about the importance of the forest would be looked at as a waste of
time and therefore money.
However, Weston appears to be appreciating this sentiment the Ecotopian society attributes to their
way of life and social norms. I read a few more excerpts from the book because I found it very
interesting how similar Ecotopia is to modern California s, and the northwest in general for that
matter, approach to environmentalism. Although Ecotopia is an exaggerated version of modern day
California, it is without a doubt based on what California was becoming and eventually became.
Recycling bins everywhere, civilized hippies starting their own communities in Northern California,
etc. Ecotopia is without a doubt based on California and the rest of the North West.
Being from the East Coast, I could vaguely relate to Weston in my shock of how different the same
country could be depending on the coast you resided on. I m not sure how many other states make you
pay for bags at the store, but I can assure you that much of the South and Southwest would have a
heart attack if they had to pay for their own bags. I consider myself an extremely Green individual,
recycling and reusing at every opportunity even

Why would that emotion react? Scientifically, emotions are pattern recognized from your reptilian and
mammalian brains. Which take control of motor system and the behavior. Intentions of hurting others
cause damage and pain. Two main reasons why someone would cause damage and pain is jealousy
and revenge. Jealousy is also an emotion that contains insecurity, concern and fear. The perfect
combination to hurt someone for what they see in the other. Depending on who they are and what their
ambitions are, jealousy can float above them. Jealousy is dangerous, Shakespeare s play Othello the
main character thinks that another man has taken his wife. In a jealous rage he ends up killing her,
believing there is betrayal involved when there was none to begin with. The humans mind can let us

Pearl Harbor Attack
In 1945, the United States had declared war on Japan after they had attacked Pearl Harbor. Since
Japan was an island, the U.S. wouldn t be able to directly attack them. It was too far away for an air
raid and naval raids would be too predictable and wouldn t work. So, the United States had to think of
a way to attack the Japanese. They decided that since the Japanese were still fighting against other
countries, they could attack the smaller islands surrounding Japan. The U.S. thought that these islands
would be less defended by the Japanese. The United States felt like they could use these islands to
provide a strong area for attacks on the Japanese mainland. This counter offensive attack was known
as the island hopping campaign. The United States were led by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz and
Douglas MacArthur. An island that the U.S. was strongly looking at was Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima already
had 3 airstrips on it, so they saw it as the perfect place to attack. Iwo Jima was an island located about
810 miles south east of Japan. It was part of an island chain called the Japanese Volcano Islands. It
measures about 5 miles long and has an area of about 8 square miles, which is about 8,000 times
smaller than Wisconsin. It ranges from 800 yards to 2.5 miles in width. Iwo Jima was widely known
for a volcano called Mount Suribachi. The U.S. really focused on capturing this landmark because it
could provide them with a great view of the island and it would make it easier to see the

Analysis Of A Stolen Life
On June 10th, 1991, eleven year old Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped, while walking to her bus stop, by
Phillip and Nancy Garrido. After using a stun gun and dragging her into their car, the Garrido s
proceeded to take Jaycee towards Anaheim, California. Once there, Jaycee lived in several rundown
buildings in the Garrido s backyard for eighteen long years. It was during that time that Jaycee
suffered multiple accounts of abuse, including sexual and emotional, and gave birth to two daughters.
During her stay at the Garrido s, Jaycee s life was stolen for more than half of the time she had been
breathing. However, in August of 2009, thanks to the help of two police officers, she was rescued.
After the rescue, Jaycee felt that it was important that she shared her story with other kidnapping,
abuse, and rape victims to help them know that they are not alone and to show others to never lose
hope. It is because of her thoughts, that Jaycee wrote her memoir, aptly titled A Stolen Life, which
follows her kidnapping story from her first day gone, to her recovery after being rescued. Throughout
the 268 pages of A Stolen Life, I was on an emotional roller coaster ride as Jaycee told her story
through her young eyes and left no details out. During one of the very first chapters in the memoir,
Jaycee describes the first time Phillip Garrido raped her. I am so small and he is so big. Why is he
doing this? Is this normal? (31) Jaycee recounts. Jaycee did not even have an idea of what sex

Mental Illnesses During The Renaissance
Mental Illnesses during the Renaissance During the European Middle Ages and Renaissance, most
mental illnesses were not attributed to witchcraft or demonic possession as has been widely believed.
Witch hunts or more precisely, trials for witchcraft, were relatively rare prior to the fifteenth century
and, in fact, appear to have been most frequent in late sixteen and seventeenth centuries (Cohn 225).
In most cases mental illnesses were believed to have physical causes (Kemp 1). Contrary to what has
been written on the subject, supernatural causes of mental illness during the Middle Ages and
Renaissance were most likely only applied to a narrow range of disorders. Although cases of mental
illnesses ascribed to demonic possession may have been more wide spread in the Middle Ages and
renaissance than they are today, they were a minority of all cases of mental illness. For example a
Franciscan monk who was an influential medieval writer on medicine, discussed mental illness in
physical and environmental terms: indeed he makes no mention at all of demonic possession (Kemp
5). From the thirteenth century until today, there are legal records concerning insanity. The court of
Wards and Liverie, was concerned to determine the sanity of property holders (Kemp 5). Analysis of

The English Puritans
The English Puritans were a group of reformed Christians looking to escape for England and its
religious persecutions. With reformed beliefs and ideals, the Puritans came to the New World forming
new behaviors and strengthening unity among believers in God and worship. Causing controversial
conflict and laying persecutions of their own, the Puritans will subse quently transform early America
by laying the foundation for political, social and religious plat forms.
During the 16th century, King Henry VIII would come to find himself in a bit of a pre dicament. His
first wife, Catherine failed to produce a son which was unacceptable since there was such precedence
in having a male heir as a successor to the throne. King Henry s answer to this would be a divorce.
However, this was strictly forbidden under the laws of the Catholic Church so King Henry would start
a reformation leading to the Church of England. Most of the beliefs and religious structure will stay
the same apart from divorce. These shifts in religious re form would bring about many who disagreed
with the fundamental beliefs of the Church of Eng land and they would come to be known as the
Puritans. The Puritans were of Protestant faith and found the reformed Church of England to be still
too true to the Catholic Church. This group of Protestants believed in a more simple and pure way of
life with a closer relationship with God. Thus, being deemed with the title, Puritans. They felt that the

Population Health Effects: What has been the resulting effect on the health of the population exposed

Cytogentic findings:
One of the most prominent concerns regarding the industrial waste from the Love Canal was the risk
of genetic damage. A study was published in 1984 looked at the cytogenetic finds in individuals living
near the Love Canal (Heath et al., 1984). Two groups of Love Canal residents were studied, as well as
individual age and sex matched controls from another population in the Niagara Falls area that was

Dystopian Film Analysis
The most shocking aspect of the dystopian novel or film is the realisation that the future is contingent

To what degree does this perspective on dystopian novels and films resonate with your own reading?
Dystopian texts fulfil the purpose of exaggerating contemporary issues and appropriating them into a
fictional universe, in order to criticise and foreshadow the destructive trajectory of current political
and social trends (Ferris, 2007). Dystopia, evolved in response to the changing political and social
climate of the late 19th and 20th century. This saw the flourishing of utopia s inverse counterpart

world through a screen (GGG, 2013). For the inhabitants of the silo, the outside world can only be
seen through a projected image, captured by sensors. The inhabitants of the silo are content by this,
and are convinced that the image they see is the truth. They do not question or breed curiosity to
discover more. Wool demonstrates the deception a society can live under when it becomes too reliant
on technology as seen in The illusion, however, convinced only from a distance (Howey, 2013). This
makes evident the deceptive nature of the image that is being projected, and conveys Howey s
cynicism towards technologies role as an information portal. Furthermore, Howey depicts the
detrimental effects that arise from technology s augmenting role in society. This is shown through the
hierarchy and power division of the silo in Wool. The IT faculty play a fundamental role in
orchestrating the façade in which the rest of the silo lives under and are responsible for enforcing the
suppressive regime of the silo. Howey conveys the dangerous influence technology can have on
society when he says, His discovery was that evil men arose from evil systems (Howey, 2013). His
statement is further accentuated by the repetition of the

Should Fracking Be Used For Money For Traditional Sources...
This house believes that fracking should be used to compensate for traditional sources of fossil fuels
in the UK in the next 40 years. I am arguing against this motion from a social and environmental
angle. Introduction: In order to comply with the goal to cut traditional fossil fuel consumption by
2050, the UK needs to turn to alternative types of energy. Fracking is a method of extracting shale gas
from deep within the earth s surface, by injecting large quantities of water at very high pressures. This
water is mixed with chemicals, in order to free the gas by breaking down the shale within sedimentary
rocks (Goodwin 2014). These rocks are impermeable, the gas cannot flow through it, and so it needs
extracting via fracking. Currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fracking shouldn t be used to compensate for traditional sources of fossil fuels as the UK already
undergoes water crisis during periods with little rainfall. As a result of global warming, less frequent
but more intense precipitation events are expected to occur, preventing groundwater supplies
recharging because once the ground becomes saturated no more water can penetrate. Using millions of
gallons of water per well is likely to result in aquifer depletion, as the rate of precipitation and runoff
cannot replace the groundwater supplies used in fracking (Finelka, 2013). This could cause a
competition for water, with different resource users wanting supplies for what they deem most
important (Homme, 2014). Fracking companies will want the water for shale gas extraction but
farmers will want it for agriculture and homeowners for cooking and drinking. Using the water
supplies for fracking isn t right when water is a vital necessity for human survival, whether it is for
crop growth or drinking. We need to prioritise our water usage, and using millions of gallons of water
for shale gas extraction isn t more important than basic necessities. Fracking supporters argue recycled
wastewater or brackish water could be used rather than clean water, but this isn t always available in
the quantities needed and in 2011 this only counted for 1/5 of the water

String Quartet No. 4
The setting of this performance was just in the classroom. It was very informal, which was nice. The
audience was mostly students from our class as well as being students from a theory class. The first
piece String Quartet No. 5, Op. 18, by Beethoven, was very upbeat. It felt like I was in at formal dance
or almost like a ballroom at a fancy party. It was very interesting to listen to as it had a very brisk
pace, but then went to a tone that was a little darker and then followed with some happy again. The
second song was String Quartet No. 4 by Leon Kirchner was quite interesting. The song had many
notes that contrasted with one another. It was out of harmony at first, but then as the song progressed,
it slowly became more cohesive. This song made me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third song String Quartet No. 4 by Henry Cowell was very interesting as well. This song gave a
presence of a song that was influenced by Asian music. This song, unlike the last one, was more
upbeat and lively. When I heard this song, at first I thought of someone a shot of Chinese people
working in a rice patty from a movie. This song gave a very strong Asian influence and I quite
enjoyed this song as well. The fourth song Rondo in F major by Anton Webern gave the appearance of
a waltz. One can hear the smoothness in the transitions between each notes, unless the prior song. One
can tell that this song is of an older production. The song itself, gave a very somber mood behind it as
the song sounded as if it was played in a minor key. It was quite harsh and gave me the impression
that something bad was happening. The final song was Four, tango by Astor Piazolla gave a sense of a
very fast pace, mixed with dramatic pauses. This song was based off a tango and originated in Buenas
Aries. It is quite deep in tone, but at the same time very lively. There were sharp accents at the end of
some measures. It kind of gives the impression of another dramatic

Essay on Napoleon at Waterloo
The battle of Waterloo is universally associated with the last stand of Napoleon. It is (for all intents
and purposes) the most significant blow to Napoleons final attempt at a return to power, Napoleons
loss sealed his fate and consequently lost his empire (once and for all). However was it truly Napoleon
s faults that resulted in the loss at Waterloo? Or as many have stated was it more accurately Marshal
Ney s inability to follow Napoleons orders and command his troops in a custom that Napoleon not
only expected but had spent years refining. Before the battle of Waterloo Napoleon ordered 30 000
troops under the command of Marshal Grouchy to separate from the main force, splitting off in order

mistake is seen in the exemption of ordering infantry attacks along with his cavalry, this though a
forgivable mistake was compounded once his other mistakes are made. Infantry and cavalry are so
often used in tandem precisely because when cavalry attacks infantry alone, the infantry has only to
form strategic squares and the cavalry is easily repelled, this however the formation of squares is

Chrysler has now released the third vehicle to be equipped with this monster engine. Named the Jeep

Immoralization In Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
In Walt Whitman song of myself section 52; he expresses his emotions very clearly. A major theme
used in this section is immortalization. Along with immortalization, personification, tone and the use
of vocabulary are important features of this section. Immortalization is used to connect all things
living or not to himself, he also shows how he will continue to live on. In the beginning of this section
he shows some signs of immortalization, writing I sound my barbaric yawp over the roof of the world.
Yawp being a laud cry, he wants everyone to hear what he has to say. Towards the end of this section,
Whitman s immortality becomes more visible, his next line goes on to say, I depart as air... air is all

Anthropomorphism is an interpretation of what is not human in terms of human characteristics. The
hawk at the beginning of the poem is an example of anthropomorphism. Whitman gives the hawk
human actions, it accuses me and it complains of my gab and my loitering. The complaining the hawk
does refer to the fact of what Whitman constantly tried to show everyone of what he wanted. It seems
as if the hawk is tired of hearing what Whitman has to say, with the line, he complains of my gab and
my loitering. In this case gab is to talk in rapid or thoughtless manner, so according to the hawk
Whitman is just talking nonsense. The use of tone also affects the way this section can be interpreted;
the beginning of this section first begins by accusing Whitman. The spotted hawk swoops by and
accuses me... , and then goes on as if it doesn t bother him if others do accuse him, as long as he is
able to say what he wants. As the section continues there is a shift in tone, he becomes more peaceful
and calm. He accepts that it is his time to leave, but not forever because he will live on. Whitman
accepts the fact that he couldn t make a change but it will come later. His words will filter and fiber

Grateful Dead Essay
Throughout history there have been many musical quot;influences quot;. One extremely important
influence to modern music is The Grateful Dead.
The group was formed in 1965 by bluegrass enthusiast Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Ron
quot;Pigpen quot; McKernan on vocals and organ, Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, classical music
student Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, and Bill Kreutzmann on drums. From the beginning, they
brought together a variety of influences, from Garcia s country background to Pigpen s feeling for
blues (his father was an R amp;B radio DJ) and Lesh s education in contemporary serious quot; music.

Grisman is a still a renowned mandolinist, but while with Garcia, they both explored the bluegrass
scene. This was Jerry s quot;foundation quot; for his musical contributions to the Grateful Dead.
Without Jerry s influence, the Grateful Dead would not have it s distinct earthy timbre or feel that has
been extremely significant in attracting their particular following.
Another contribution to the Dead s style was bassist Phil Lesh. With only formal jazz training on the
trumpet, Lesh picked up a bass and learned as he went while playing with the Grateful Dead s then
nucleus, The Warlocks. Lesh is famous for his jazz improvisational style. This particular style usually
finds his fingers running up and down the neck of a five or six string bass (seen right), dropping what
are affectionately known to fans as quot;Phil Bombs quot;, furiously low frequency notes that tend to
rumble in auditoriums and can only be created with a five or six string bass. As one can well imagine,
these two aforementioned styles together could create somewhat of an interesting style. Well, it only
gets better.
Bill Kreutzmann, the quot;heartbeat quot; of the Grateful Dead, had been behind a kit since the age of
eleven when Jerry Garcia met him in 1962. His early love of drums allowed him to be heavily
involved in the quot;rock and roll quot; scene. As a teen, Kreutzmann even created rock in roll bands
in which to play, as the interest was barely there. After meeting

Canada s Sovereign And Morally Just Approach
Canada has been highly involved in global issues and has held itself on moral grounds, despite some
opposing influence. Canada s sovereign and morally just approach can be seen in many events in the
20th century, such as in the Second World War, the Korean War, the Suez Crisis and the Vietnam War.
As well, Canada s imperfect, yet improving immigration policy displays the acceptance and unbiased
approach Canada has towards people of different backgrounds. Despite some minor missteps and
impediments, Canada would make an excellent choice for UN Advisor Country for the reason that
Canada has spearheaded much global intervention, especially for such a small (population wise) and
unassuming country. The Second World War was an important event in Canadian history, turning an
unobtrusive country on the outer edge of global affairs into a critical player in the 20th century s most
important struggle. The Canadian Prime Minister of the time, William Lyon Mackenzie King was
hesitant to join the Second World War due to the devastating effects of the first war still being fresh.
Canada took all variables into account and launched Canada into the war very well, with a primary
focus on the manufacturing duties of the war. Notably, Canada carried out a vital role in the Battle of
the Atlantic, allowing goods produced in Canada to pass the ocean and neutralize threats by German U
boats. In addition, Canada played a big role in the air war over Germany and contributed forces to the

Comparison Of Mythical Creatures In Arabian Nights And...
Culture differences in the world are reflected in the novels from different regions of the world.
Arabian Nights is a novel full of Arabian stories and folktales gathered from the Islamic Golden Age,
while The Journey to the West, also known as XiYouJi is a Chinese novel full of folk tales from the
Ming Dynasty. The Journey to the West is now a popular cartoon and storybook for children in China.
These two novels differ slightly in characters, and religion, and the historical context, but they both
have the same underlying principles.
Mythical creatures are almost always literary creatures that generated popularity out of literary
circulation and storytelling. They are legendary creatures that at one point were believed to be real
beings, while some have their origin traced from literary myths. The mythical creatures used in
Arabian Nights consists of Jinni, while The Journey to the West consists of mythical creatures such as
the Scorpion Demon. When comparing these creatures, a question begins to arise. Why are mythical
creatures part of literature? Mythical creatures are archetypes that form from the collective
unconscious of people. These creatures can be found in any culture at any time. They may take a

Workplace Bullying Institute states, many studies acknowledge that there is a fine line between strong
management and bullying. Comments that are objective and are intended to provide constructive
feedback are not usually considered bullying, but rather are intended to assist the employee with their
work. If you are not sure an action or statement could be considered bullying, you can use the
reasonable person test. Would most people consider the action unacceptable (Oppermann, 2009)? The
practice of bullying may be executed by an individual against the other, or can alternatively engage
many individuals working as a group. Although, the border line that separates strong management and
bullying can be indistinct, an individual who perceives that he or she is targeted for uneven treatment
is possibly being bullied. The National Institute of Occupational Safety Health (NIOSH) indicates that
mental disorders among the different workforce, said to be brought by workplace bullying, impacts to

Separations Of Powers In Australia Essay
In the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Australia, exists a doctrine called the separation of
powers. This doctrine exists to ensure that no single body of government, is in a position to hold all
the power in the nation, when making decision s which can be detrimental to others. Yet at the same
time Australia does not use doctrine of separations of powers as strictly as other countries. It is the
intention of this essay to see how the doctrine of separations of power operates in Australia, then
compare it to another country. To see how it operates there and to view differences and similarities
which exist between these two countries.
To first understand why the doctrine of separations of powers operates differently in Australia, we first
must establish what exactly the Separations of powers is. As such the Separations of Powers doctrine,
can basically be expressed as separating the three major bodies of government, to reduce the
likelihood of one body obtaining all the power in the government . The three bodies of government
comprise of: the Legislative, the Executive and the Judicial. The Legislative body comprises up of

all works, and I have always had an interest in computers which function on electricity. I also love
subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, and Trigonometry. I began considering engineering last
year when I took an elective, Intro to Engineering, it was comprised of hands on projects that I worked
on and tried to make work. I loved the hands on approach it was fun and I learned a ton of useful skills
and information. As for picking the electrical part, that was as simple. Ever since I was little I have
loved computers I used them mostly for video games, but I was always curious as to their inner
workings. I have had the enlightening experience of building my own personal computer from scratch.
I went out bought the parts and carefully, as to not damage the delicate parts, put it together, installed
my operating system, and now enjoy my own computer. This only made me more interested as to how

Chewing Gum And Memory Essay
Does the Flavor of Gum Positively Influence Memory
We remember what we understand; we understand only what we pay attention to; we pay attention to
what we want. Edward Bolle
Your memory is extremely important, especially for college students. Your memory is your brain s
filing system that holds all of the information you have memorized throughout your lifespan. There is
short term memory that is then stored in a large filing cabinet called your long term memory. There are
ways in which you can improve your memory. The purpose of this study is to determine how others
perceive flavor and how it is positively related to memory by completing lab tasks using a Qualtrics
survey.
Chewing gum can enhance episodic and working memory conducted in a study done by Wilkinson,
L., Scholey, A., and Wesnes, K. (2002), and had also proposed that the act of chewing gum during
cognitive tests would improve mental performance. Participants in the free chewing group
experienced a significant increase in accuracy on immediate and delayed word recall as well as on
spatial and numeric working memory tasks. The effects of gum chewing that were manipulating
memory content were done measuring a heart rate response. In common with the earlier experiment,
chewing gum is a benefit to having an enhanced episodic long term memory along with working
memory, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we would have done a recall test as the previous studies have done, we would have had participants
come in 24 hours after the initial study to determine if they could recall the previous given words and
pictures Having more participants in the study would have drastically changed our results. A placebo
effect would be changing the comparison group to include water or flavorless gum, along with our two
flavors of gum, comparing flavor versus chewing, also using a cinnamon mints and cinnamon

Ellen Foster Essay
Ellen Foster
When I was little I would think of ways to kill my daddy. [P.1], says eleven year old Ellen. Thus the
young narrator begins her life story, in the process painting an extraordinary self portrait. Ellen Foster
is a powerful story of a young girl growing up in a burdensome world. As one reads this work
presented by Kaye Gibbons, a chill runs down their back. Ellen, the main character is faced with a
hard life dealing with endless losses, with the deaths of both her parents and her grandmother being
included. Why would one get a chill you wonder? This individual has thoughts and feelings that many
have never experienced and cannot express. Ellen is merely a child no older then the age of ten but if
not knowing this fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her grandmother treats her badly. She acts as if Ellen is to blame for her daughter s death. This is how
Ellen describes the beginning of hers and her grandmother s relationship, My mama s mama picked
me up in her long car that was like the undertaking car only hers was cream. I told Roy and Julia on
more time I did not need to go. If we have to live together the least you could do is talk to me like you
know I am in your car is what I thought to say to her. I figured she would warm up to me. But all she
asked on the way to her house was when does school start again? Lord it just ended and I sure am
looking forward to the summer at your house I said for the icebreaker. I asked you when school starts.
I do not need the commentary is what she said back to me hot. So September. I said September. I said
my answer quick and on time like the army way. I saluted in my head. {P. 61}
Ellen finds a woman at church that takes in orphan girls, but will there be any room for her? Will it
just end up being another misunderstanding, like with her aunt, who was under the assumption that
she would just be visiting for a few days. It is Ellen s determination which eventually lands her a place
in a loving home, with loving companionship.
Against all odds, Ellen never gives up her belief that there is a place for her in the world, a home that
will satisfy all her longing for love, acceptance, and order. Her eventual success in finding that

The Doctor-Patient Relationship Is The Primary Mode Of
The doctor patient relationship is the primary mode of cognition that is at the heart of the discourse of
medicine and bioethics. Healthcare is constructed around encounters between practitioners and
patients, and the relationship between them is integral to how the cultures of healing are at work and
represented in literature, in history and social sciences around the world. Life and mortality are two
great questions of being that perennially haunt the human existence; and physicians play the most
significant role in negotiating between the physical and the metaphysical worlds of being, suffering
and trying to find cure and comfort as long as life goes on. The cultures of healing across time, space
and nationality explored however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is Foucault s famous observation in The Birth of the Clinic ( as translated into English in 1973)
where he illustrates the doctor patient relationship in terms of power, and the subject object hierarchy.
The diseased body is in disorder, in a state of displacement, and its subjectivity is erased as it becomes
subject to the doctor s examination. In several literary works of the nineteenth century, such
representations of doctor patient relationship are to be found as corresponding to the Foucauldian
pattern, that is, turning the patient s subjectivity into an object of the doctor s authoritative gaze.
However, since Foucault himself has elsewhere insisted on the double meaning of subject (1982, 212),
it is possible to problematize the doctor patient relation and attempt to come to terms with one s own
subject object position within the established discourse of medical gaze. It is interesting, however, to
examine how literary representations of doctor patient relationships across cultures and nationalities
have interrogated the notion of seeing as an alternative mode of vision.
Opthalmology as a special branch of medical science established itself quite seriously in the Victorian
period. Wilkie Collins Poor Miss Finch (1872) is a medical surgical novel , and the surgery is operated
on the eye. Beneath the story

Good Ideas In The Circle By Dave Eggers
Have you ever had that creepy feeling that someone is watching you, but when you look around no
one is there? Or wonder how everyone seems to know your every move? That could be how we would
feel on a daily basis if we really were to implement some of the ideas Dave Eggers puts forth in his
book, The Circle. Concepts such as secrets are lies , undisclosed ideas can be a detriment to the
company; sharing is caring , every aspect of your life should be shared with others; and privacy is
theft , concealment of ideas is robbing everyone of advancement. The impact to our society if these
fictional ideas were fully developed and mandated could be devastating. Some of the ideas Eggers
explores are not all that far fetched. It is known that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this day and age, privacy is almost becoming a luxury, and it is almost impossible to go online
without your every move being tracked. While companies feel they have a right to invade your
privacy for the betterment of all, who is it really helping? It s no surprise some companies sell their
user s information to other companies to generate targeted ads to specific users; however, not many
people know Microsoft does this on all computers that run Windows 10, which turns out to be just
over 25% of the PC market. ...Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including
your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private

to and abide by, states that Microsoft can lawfully collect data they deem useful. This data includes
basic personal information, buying preferences, email or video communications, and much more.
Microsoft also tracks and records, each keystroke, duration of use, and telemetry of every one of its
Window 10 users. They say this information is vital to the company for fixing bugs, and improving the
performance of the operating system and associated services Lenovo is another company that has been

The Legacy Of John Caldwell Calhoun
John Caldwell Calhoun was born March 18th, 1782 in Abbeville, South Carolina. In the year 1807,
John Calhoun received admission to the South Carolina bar and practiced law. The year after, he was
elected into the state legislature of South Carolina, where he served for two years leading to his
election to the U.S House of Representatives in the year 1810. In 1817, John Calhoun was appointed
as Secretary of War by President Monroe, in which during his term, he made substantial changes to
the War Department. Calhoun served two terms as Vice President: in 1825 with John Quincy and in
1829 with Andrew Jackson. In 1832 he quit his Vice President position and returned to South Carolina
as a Senator, a position which he held for eleven years. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he served as a Senator of Kentucky from the years of 1806 and 1807, and returned to the State
House of Representatives, from the years of 1807 until 1809. Henry then returned to the Senate until
1811. Clay became one of the leaders of an anti British group known as the War Hawks while he was
a U.S Representative from 1815 to 1825. After his term as Secretary of State, Henry returned to the
U.S Senate from 1831 to 1852. Clay s recognition as a compromiser originated from his involvement
in the Missouri Compromise. Henry s appointment as the Secretary of State caused controversy. His
pursuit for the Presidency in the 1824 election ended with no majority for any of the candidates. Clay
supported John Adams instead of Andrew Jackson, which violated the instructions of the Kentucky
legislature. Due to the informal precedent that the Secretary of State would eventually assume the
presidency, Jackson supporters pictured Clay s position as Secretary of State as a corrupt bargain.
Nevertheless, Clay had experience as a diplomat and a goal to pursue as Secretary of State. Clay
served in the Peace Commission after the War of 1812 which negotiated the Treaty of Ghent with the
British in 1814. As one of the commissioners, Clay urged to keep the British from receiving free
navigation on to the Mississippi River. Clay had based his policy plan on the American System,
dwelling upon the federal support of the national economic development. To that time in history, Clay
had

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of Apollo 11 The worldwide attention brought about by the success of the Apollo 11 moon landing was used by many speakers and writers to push forward their own agenda or opinions using a variety of rhetorical appeals and strategies. The texts, Man s First Step on the Moon , a news article by the Times of London, In Event of Moon Disaster , a prepared speech to be spoken by President Nixon written by William Safire, The July 16, 1969, Launch: A Symbol of Man s Greatness , a commentary by philosopher Ayn Rand, and Transported , a political cartoon by Herblock, were all made in occasion of the Apollo 11 mission and directed toward the viewers worldwide but each with a different purpose and rhetorical appeal. Each of the four texts create an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is done by establishing shared values between the speaker and audience and strong uses of pathos. Despite this speech being written by William Safire, it was to be spoken by President Nixon to establish automatic credibility due to him being the leader of the United States, one of the most powerful countries. This use of ethos strengthens the argument of persevering through this difficulty since the persona of the speaker is that of a compassionate, but stern figure that is meant to serve as inspiration as to how the audience should act. In addition, the persona works in conjunction with pathos to evoke strong emotions of sympathy and nationalism. This is seen in the third paragraph where the phrase, They will be mourned.. is used as an anastrophe to greater emphasize the need to remember and feel sorrow for the brave astronauts who gave their lives to further humanity. Their sacrifice is later built further in the following paragraphs by comparing their achievements to those of ancient times and how they ll never be forgotten. Safire s speech utilizes the automatic credibility given by the president and emphasizes key points using rhetorical devices to establish shared values in order to further evoke sympathy and later patriotism from the audience. • 3. Benefits Of Small Town Living Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in Houston, Texas. When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing. Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future. I grew up, the majority of my live, in a town in central Illinois, Kincaid, or better known as South Fork because of the co op with the schools around us in sports. This town is approximately 20 miles southeast of Springfield, and is only seven miles west from the nearest town, with many opportunities that my town did not offer (City data). With a total population of 1,495, including the town of Tovey about a mile away, as of July 1, 2015 Kincaid is ranked as number 587 of 1,367 as being a small town in Illinois (Kincaid, IL). • 4. Abstract Art, Character Design, And Pencil Tests For my case study the three pieces of artwork that I ll be talking about revolve around animation, as that is my field of study. The artwork I chose will range from concept art, character design, and pencil tests. First let s take a look at Hayao Miyazaki s concept art for one of his movies known as Spirited Away, which was released in the United States in 2002. The movie appears to be satire, but that isn t my purpose. I have five young female friends who are about the same age as Hiiragi san*, and I spend every summer with them at my mountain cabin. I wanted to make a movie they could enjoy. That is why I started this film, and that is my true purpose (Shoten). Those were the words of Miyazaki, translated by Ryoko Toyama, showing that this image and the movie s purpose in general was to provide entertainment. The intended audience for all Studio Ghibli films is family, and especially children. Miyazaki s goal from his art is to make movies that everyone can enjoy, as stated above. Getting back to this specific image, it is most likely a mixed media of watercolor, acrylic paint, and probably edited with a computer, as it is a final background that was used in the movie. Immediately you can see balance within this piece. While both sides are not exactly symmetrical it gives off that implication by having both sides very similar if you were to split the image down the middle, especially the train that almost appears that way on it s own. It also has a nice sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Technology And The Security Of The Public Confidence Introduction Imagine going about your weekly errands, making purchases like you normally would when you hand the cashier your card for payment and it declines. You call the bank only to find out that your account has been drained of all its funds. This experience leaves you confused, who, how and why has this happened, and for the most part the answers do not come as quickly as you would, like or even at all. This issue plays out day after day for thousands of consumers as merchant data breaches and compromises have left millions of consumer information exposed. These recent compromises in merchant systems and cyber attacks have exposed a deficiency in the security used to protect the public. This largely in part to outdated technology and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hackers use those footholds to crawl through corporate networks until they gain access to the in store cash register systems. From there, criminals collect payment card data off the cash register systems and send it back to their servers abroad . (Perloth, N. (2014, August 22, P6). This has led to fall out both from the public as well as industries scrambling to fix the situation before it gets any worse. The recent compromise of Target has exposed a more underlying issue of merchant s inability to monitor and secure the payment systems and the databases that store consumer card information. When it comes to the technology in place that monitors and secure customer information, there are no active monitoring of the systems. There will need to be an overhaul of the current technology in place by these organizations, if they hope to combat fraud and protect consumers from data breaches and merchant compromises. (Heun, D. (2013). Fall Out From Data Breaches Cyber Attacks have forced industries to assess many areas of security as well as policies and procedures currently in place that protect sensitive information. • 8. During The Romantic Era, Civil Rights Movements Began To During the Romantic Era, civil rights movements began to gain strength. Through various methods, advocates of such causes garnered support and brought attention to perceived problems in the status of various peoples. Poetry was one of these methods, but the specifics of its implementation, from appeals to literary devices, varied. Washing Day by Anna Lutita Barbauld used emotions and imagery to support women s rights, but The Negro s Complaint, an abolitionist poem by Cowper, focused on ethics to sway its readers. The purpose of Washing Day is evident by the first stanza; Barbauld indicates that the poem focuses on the struggles wives face during washing day with the lines Come, Muse, and sing the dreaded washing day/ Ye who beneath ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the same manner as the rain, the husbands are portrayed as major inconveniences worsening an already miserable day. The narrator describes the women s apprehension of their husbands coming with more demands such as sewing their stockings to accomplish this (Barbauld 33 40). With these descriptions, Barbauld paints the men as one of the causes of the wives sadness. In the later stanzas of the poem, the narrator switches to her own perspective as a child watching the women go through the motions of washing day. Her naivety and ignorance strengthen Barbauld s emotional appeal by providing a contrast to earlier descriptions of the wives view, but this perspective s odd similarity to the men s own makes the strongest impact on the reader. As the women worked, the narrator sought affection and food as she would on any other day; she didn t understand why her mother and the other women brushed her aside in favor of working (Barbauld 58 65). Since she was a child, to her, the day was the same as any other. As she listened to her mother urge haste in the chores, she wondered as to the purpose of washing day (Barbauld 74 79). The ending lines capture the purpose of these stanzas: The sports of children and the toils of men/ Earth, air, and sky, and ocean, hath its bubbles/ And verse is one of them this most of all (Barbauld 84 86). Per these lines, everything from the works of men to the play of children seems to have value, but the labor of women doesn t in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Ecotopia Big Wood Summary In my excerpt of the reading, In Ecotopia s Big Wood s, Weston laments on Ecotopia s vast forests that are treated with human dignity. The forests are looked at in a religious matter and treated like family. The logging system includes education on the importance of trees in nature and how they must be preserved by any means necessary. Weston even writes about a young man, who he points out did not seem under the influence, leaning on a tree and saying, Brother Tree! . This appears to be the consensus of every citizen in Ecotopia. The scientists of Ecotopia have even developed biodegradable plastics out of tree pulp. Trees and the forests of Ecotopia are without a doubt a major factor in the Ecotopian economy. Weston points out that in the America of the time, and arguably the America of today, would find this to be not only a huge contradiction but also an economic penalty as a waste of time. In America, time is money and the time it takes to reforest a logged forest, let alone teaching those who are doing the logging about the importance of the forest would be looked at as a waste of time and therefore money. However, Weston appears to be appreciating this sentiment the Ecotopian society attributes to their way of life and social norms. I read a few more excerpts from the book because I found it very interesting how similar Ecotopia is to modern California s, and the northwest in general for that matter, approach to environmentalism. Although Ecotopia is an exaggerated version of modern day California, it is without a doubt based on what California was becoming and eventually became. Recycling bins everywhere, civilized hippies starting their own communities in Northern California, etc. Ecotopia is without a doubt based on California and the rest of the North West. Being from the East Coast, I could vaguely relate to Weston in my shock of how different the same country could be depending on the coast you resided on. I m not sure how many other states make you pay for bags at the store, but I can assure you that much of the South and Southwest would have a heart attack if they had to pay for their own bags. • 11. Pearl Harbor Attack In 1945, the United States had declared war on Japan after they had attacked Pearl Harbor. Since Japan was an island, the U.S. wouldn t be able to directly attack them. It was too far away for an air raid and naval raids would be too predictable and wouldn t work. So, the United States had to think of a way to attack the Japanese. They decided that since the Japanese were still fighting against other countries, they could attack the smaller islands surrounding Japan. The U.S. thought that these islands would be less defended by the Japanese. The United States felt like they could use these islands to provide a strong area for attacks on the Japanese mainland. This counter offensive attack was known as the island hopping campaign. The United States were led by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz and Douglas MacArthur. An island that the U.S. was strongly looking at was Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima already had 3 airstrips on it, so they saw it as the perfect place to attack. Iwo Jima was an island located about 810 miles south east of Japan. It was part of an island chain called the Japanese Volcano Islands. It measures about 5 miles long and has an area of about 8 square miles, which is about 8,000 times smaller than Wisconsin. It ranges from 800 yards to 2.5 miles in width. • 14. Analysis Of A Stolen Life On June 10th, 1991, eleven year old Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped, while walking to her bus stop, by Phillip and Nancy Garrido. After using a stun gun and dragging her into their car, the Garrido s proceeded to take Jaycee towards Anaheim, California. Once there, Jaycee lived in several rundown buildings in the Garrido s backyard for eighteen long years. It was during that time that Jaycee suffered multiple accounts of abuse, including sexual and emotional, and gave birth to two daughters. During her stay at the Garrido s, Jaycee s life was stolen for more than half of the time she had been breathing. However, in August of 2009, thanks to the help of two police officers, she was rescued. After the rescue, Jaycee felt that it was important that she shared her story with other kidnapping, abuse, and rape victims to help them know that they are not alone and to show others to never lose hope. It is because of her thoughts, that Jaycee wrote her memoir, aptly titled A Stolen Life, which follows her kidnapping story from her first day gone, to her recovery after being rescued. Throughout the 268 pages of A Stolen Life, I was on an emotional roller coaster ride as Jaycee told her story through her young eyes and left no details out. During one of the very first chapters in the memoir, Jaycee describes the first time Phillip Garrido raped her. I am so small and he is so big. Why is he doing this? Is this normal? • 16. Mental Illnesses During The Renaissance Mental Illnesses during the Renaissance During the European Middle Ages and Renaissance, most mental illnesses were not attributed to witchcraft or demonic possession as has been widely believed. Witch hunts or more precisely, trials for witchcraft, were relatively rare prior to the fifteenth century and, in fact, appear to have been most frequent in late sixteen and seventeenth centuries (Cohn 225). In most cases mental illnesses were believed to have physical causes (Kemp 1). Contrary to what has been written on the subject, supernatural causes of mental illness during the Middle Ages and Renaissance were most likely only applied to a narrow range of disorders. Although cases of mental illnesses ascribed to demonic possession may have been more wide spread in the Middle Ages and renaissance than they are today, they were a minority of all cases of mental illness. For example a Franciscan monk who was an influential medieval writer on medicine, discussed mental illness in physical and environmental terms: indeed he makes no mention at all of demonic possession (Kemp 5). From the thirteenth century until today, there are legal records concerning insanity. The court of Wards and Liverie, was concerned to determine the sanity of property holders (Kemp 5). • 18. The English Puritans The English Puritans were a group of reformed Christians looking to escape for England and its religious persecutions. With reformed beliefs and ideals, the Puritans came to the New World forming new behaviors and strengthening unity among believers in God and worship. Causing controversial conflict and laying persecutions of their own, the Puritans will subse quently transform early America by laying the foundation for political, social and religious plat forms. During the 16th century, King Henry VIII would come to find himself in a bit of a pre dicament. His first wife, Catherine failed to produce a son which was unacceptable since there was such precedence in having a male heir as a successor to the throne. King Henry s answer to this would be a divorce. However, this was strictly forbidden under the laws of the Catholic Church so King Henry would start a reformation leading to the Church of England. Most of the beliefs and religious structure will stay the same apart from divorce. These shifts in religious re form would bring about many who disagreed with the fundamental beliefs of the Church of Eng land and they would come to be known as the Puritans. The Puritans were of Protestant faith and found the reformed Church of England to be still too true to the Catholic Church. This group of Protestants believed in a more simple and pure way of life with a closer relationship with God. Thus, being deemed with the title, Puritans. They felt that the Church of ... Cytogentic findings: One of the most prominent concerns regarding the industrial waste from the Love Canal was the risk of genetic damage. A study was published in 1984 looked at the cytogenetic finds in individuals living near the Love Canal (Heath et al., 1984). Two groups of Love Canal residents were studied, as well as individual age and sex matched controls from another population in the Niagara Falls area that was thought to be unexposed (Heath et al., 1984). Dystopian Film Analysis The most shocking aspect of the dystopian novel or film is the realisation that the future is contingent on the present, and can be affected by something we do or don t do now To what degree does this perspective on dystopian novels and films resonate with your own reading? Dystopian texts fulfil the purpose of exaggerating contemporary issues and appropriating them into a fictional universe, in order to criticise and foreshadow the destructive trajectory of current political and social trends (Ferris, 2007). Howey criticises the narrow vision of contemporary society, and our growing tendency to view the world through a screen (GGG, 2013). For the inhabitants of the silo, the outside world can only be seen through a projected image, captured by sensors. The inhabitants of the silo are content by this, and are convinced that the image they see is the truth. They do not question or breed curiosity to discover more. Wool demonstrates the deception a society can live under when it becomes too reliant on technology as seen in The illusion, however, convinced only from a distance (Howey, 2013). Furthermore, Howey depicts the detrimental effects that arise from technology s augmenting role in society. This is shown through the hierarchy and power division of the silo in Wool. The IT faculty play a fundamental role in orchestrating the façade in which the rest of the silo lives under and are responsible for enforcing the suppressive regime of the silo. • 22. Should Fracking Be Used For Money For Traditional Sources... This house believes that fracking should be used to compensate for traditional sources of fossil fuels in the UK in the next 40 years. I am arguing against this motion from a social and environmental angle. Introduction: In order to comply with the goal to cut traditional fossil fuel consumption by 2050, the UK needs to turn to alternative types of energy. Fracking is a method of extracting shale gas from deep within the earth s surface, by injecting large quantities of water at very high pressures. This water is mixed with chemicals, in order to free the gas by breaking down the shale within sedimentary rocks (Goodwin 2014). These rocks are impermeable, the gas cannot flow through it, and so it needs extracting via fracking. Currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fracking shouldn t be used to compensate for traditional sources of fossil fuels as the UK already undergoes water crisis during periods with little rainfall. As a result of global warming, less frequent but more intense precipitation events are expected to occur, preventing groundwater supplies recharging because once the ground becomes saturated no more water can penetrate. Using millions of gallons of water per well is likely to result in aquifer depletion, as the rate of precipitation and runoff cannot replace the groundwater supplies used in fracking (Finelka, 2013). This could cause a competition for water, with different resource users wanting supplies for what they deem most important (Homme, 2014). Fracking companies will want the water for shale gas extraction but farmers will want it for agriculture and homeowners for cooking and drinking. Using the water supplies for fracking isn t right when water is a vital necessity for human survival, whether it is for crop growth or drinking. We need to prioritise our water usage, and using millions of gallons of water for shale gas extraction isn t more important than basic necessities. Fracking supporters argue recycled wastewater or brackish water could be used rather than clean water, but this isn t always available in the quantities needed and in 2011 this only counted for 1/5 of the water ... • 38. What I Chose Electrical Engineering Well here it is, the senior project. The assignment everyone dreads, however, the assignment that must be completed in order to graduate. With that in mind, I have been giving much thought and research into what I want to accomplish after high school, and I believe that I have found a career that I will enjoy, a college I wish to attend, and a location I would like to live in. No plan is ever perfect, but my hope is that I can be prepared for the future which is approaching rapidly. First things first, I chose electrical engineering as my career, mostly in my interest of computers and physics. One, I like to investigate stuff and figure out how it all works, and I have always had an interest in computers which function on electricity. I also love subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, and Trigonometry. I began considering engineering last year when I took an elective, Intro to Engineering, it was comprised of hands on projects that I worked on and tried to make work. I loved the hands on approach it was fun and I learned a ton of useful skills and information. As for picking the electrical part, that was as simple. Ever since I was little I have loved computers I used them mostly for video games, but I was always curious as to their inner workings. I have had the enlightening experience of building my own personal computer from scratch. I went out bought the parts and carefully, as to not damage the delicate parts, put it together, installed my operating system, and now enjoy my own computer. • 39. Chewing Gum And Memory Essay Does the Flavor of Gum Positively Influence Memory We remember what we understand; we understand only what we pay attention to; we pay attention to what we want. Edward Bolle Your memory is extremely important, especially for college students. Your memory is your brain s filing system that holds all of the information you have memorized throughout your lifespan. There is short term memory that is then stored in a large filing cabinet called your long term memory. There are ways in which you can improve your memory. The purpose of this study is to determine how others perceive flavor and how it is positively related to memory by completing lab tasks using a Qualtrics survey. Chewing gum can enhance episodic and working memory conducted in a study done by Wilkinson, L., Scholey, A., and Wesnes, K. (2002), and had also proposed that the act of chewing gum during cognitive tests would improve mental performance. Participants in the free chewing group experienced a significant increase in accuracy on immediate and delayed word recall as well as on spatial and numeric working memory tasks. The effects of gum chewing that were manipulating memory content were done measuring a heart rate response. In common with the earlier experiment, chewing gum is a benefit to having an enhanced episodic long term memory along with working memory, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we would have done a recall test as the previous studies have done, we would have had participants come in 24 hours after the initial study to determine if they could recall the previous given words and pictures Having more participants in the study would have drastically changed our results. • 41. The Doctor-Patient Relationship Is The Primary Mode Of The doctor patient relationship is the primary mode of cognition that is at the heart of the discourse of medicine and bioethics. Healthcare is constructed around encounters between practitioners and patients, and the relationship between them is integral to how the cultures of healing are at work and represented in literature, in history and social sciences around the world. Life and mortality are two great questions of being that perennially haunt the human existence; and physicians play the most significant role in negotiating between the physical and the metaphysical worlds of being, suffering and trying to find cure and comfort as long as life goes on. The cultures of healing across time, space and nationality explored however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is Foucault s famous observation in The Birth of the Clinic ( as translated into English in 1973) where he illustrates the doctor patient relationship in terms of power, and the subject object hierarchy. The diseased body is in disorder, in a state of displacement, and its subjectivity is erased as it becomes subject to the doctor s examination. In several literary works of the nineteenth century, such representations of doctor patient relationship are to be found as corresponding to the Foucauldian pattern, that is, turning the patient s subjectivity into an object of the doctor s authoritative gaze. However, since Foucault himself has elsewhere insisted on the double meaning of subject (1982, 212), it is possible to problematize the doctor patient relation and attempt to come to terms with one s own subject object position within the established discourse of medical gaze. It is interesting, however, to examine how literary representations of doctor patient relationships across cultures and nationalities have interrogated the notion of seeing as an alternative mode of vision. Opthalmology as a special branch of medical science established itself quite seriously in the Victorian period. Henry s appointment as the Secretary of State caused controversy. His pursuit for the Presidency in the 1824 election ended with no majority for any of the candidates.
