Argumentative Essay About Fake News
Fake News, To Believe or Not to Believe, That is The Question

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Iraqi war veteran s mother dies after being denied entry into the United
States due to President Trump s travel ban! Is this report fake news? Yes! The Iraqi man s mother died
before Trump ever signed the executive order related to the travel ban. We have become inundated
with fake news by many forums. We have comedy shows that produce news parodies of actual events
calling themselves fake news. Social media providing 24/7 click bait of fake news. Fake news is now
exposing traditional news journalist for their inaccuracies, biases, and half truths; many now view
them as distributors of fake news. Some would argue that comedy and mainstream media are not fake
news, but I disagree. Comedians and journalist revel in protection under the First Amendment
regarding fake news while social media continues to face threats of censorship. The public s distrust of
the mainstream media continues as the spotlight shines on fake news through comedy shows, social
media, and has now initiated freedom of speech scrutiny.
One such comedy called The Daily Show admits it is about fake news. As reported by Brewer
Marquardt (2007), The Daily Show is a satire of fake news events, including personal interviews with
various guests. Anyone from politicians to news figures made appearances. The researchers noted that

Grapes Of Wrath Chapter 12
When examining John Steinbeck s, Grapes of Wrath he details the story of the Joads an Oklahoma
family on their way to California in the midsts of the Dust Bowl. As he discusses their journey
towards the american dream he inserts several intercalary chapters that break up the discussion of the
Joads and shifts the focus towards the things that symbolizes them. In the novel there are several
intercalary chapters that are used to depict the lies and deceit that occurs to the Joads right under their
nose.
One intercalary chapter that relates to the message of the whole book is a quote from chapter 12. The
quote states, That rattle that s tappets. Don t hurt a bit. Tappets can rattle till Jesus comes again
without no harm. But that thudding as the car moves along can t hear that just kind of feel it. Maybe
oil isn t gettin someplace. Maybe a bearing s startin to go. Chapter 12 is written from the perspective
of Steinbeck. The Joads are on the road to California and the narrator begins talking about California
gas stations. Steinbeck says that there are used car salesman who try and get the farmers to buy parts
from them and insist to the farmers that they need will need the parts and how their cars are the best in
town. In this particular scene a family is listening to the sound of the engine in the car. The author uses
a euphemism in this passage when he is speaking as the used car salesman in order to make the
travelers believe that the car is better than it is

The Medical Field Is Always Advancing. Research Is Providing
The medical field is always advancing. Research is providing new means of improvement and brand
new technology. The technology is then used to help patients recover and prevent diseases. Research
and Development teams spend their entire careers testing and building new innovations to help the
field progress. Luckily, a new modern technology has been developed. What is this technology? The
3D printer. 3D printers are surprisingly older than people think. They first started in the late 1980 s
and have rapidly progressed. Now the 3D printer has various applications in many fields such as
business, technology, medical field, etc.
Many social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook; and news sources have stated that 3D printing

The study found that the students that used the 3D printed model had a richer learning experience. The
technology allows the medical students to better learn the different physical structures and organs. It
also always them to practice different medical procedures and operations. Indeed, the technology will
help effectively train more capable doctors.
Another application is the ability to print models of patient s organs and specifically plan the surgery.
For instance, surgeons used an MRI to scan a patient s brain and print an exact replica. A surgery was
needed to remove a tumor. The surgeons could see the depth of the tumor and specific details. This
technology allows them to plan and practice the surgical procedures for each patient s case. (see image
above) The 3D printing technology has improved how doctors can plan and practice to be able to
perform precise procedures.
Also, the 3D printing technology provides medical schools with a less expensive alternative to using
cadavers. Cadaver are difficult to acquire, store, and need to be disposed of at certain times. High
quality 3D printers are a little pricy, but are more cost effective. This is due to the availability of
digital files of different models of organs online. With the rising demand of 3D printers, the price is
going down and becoming even more affordable for medical schools. This is another way medical
field is adapting to the 3D

The Stranger Critical Lens Essay
The Stranger: Absurdity Through a Lens The theme of absurdity can be seen through three different
lenses in The Stranger, by Albert Camus: life, decisions, and reflection. The first lens in which the
reader can see absurdity in the novel is when the protagonist lives for the sensual pleasures of the
present moment. The second lens in which the reader can see absurdity in the novel is when the
protagonist absurdity of the protagonists decisions on how he does or doesn t decide to kill the Arab.
The third lens in which the reader can see absurdity in the novel is when the protagonist how he
reflects back on his decisions and life and concludes that life means nothing between birth and death.
The changes in the lenses of Meursault s absurdum are projected through the author s choice of
different language. The first lens in which the reader can see absurdity in the novel is when the
protagonist lives for the sensual pleasures of the present moment. Meursault is the protagonist who
lives for the sensual pleasures of the present moment. He is free of any system of values in his life.
And he would rather not behave in accordance with social norms. Meursault tries to live as honestly as
he can. He does only what he wants to do and befriending those whom he likes. Although he is blunt
with his relationships with people. He says things to his partner that a regular man or woman would
choose not to say. It is shown to the reader that Meursault may not be capable of a loving

Analysis Of Man With A Movie Camera
Man with a Movie Camera is a portrayal of the life of the cameraman. Through the eye of the camera,
it also shows the rapid industrialization of Soviet Russia through a glorifying perspective. The film fits
into the socialist realism movement and seeks to paint a positive image of the Soviet Union before the
viewers with realistic images. Knowing Vertov s background as a newsreel producer for the state, it is
rather predictable that the film would feature the positive impacts of the communist revolution on
Soviet life. By making this film, Vertov resolves his concern that there were films about various
industries and the making of all kinds of other goods, and there had not yet been one about cinema
(Hicks 178). Through the heroic depictions of the life of a cameraman, the film industry is exalted as
one of the mechanical industries that drive the advancement of the Soviet Union. Although Vertov
stayed loyal to his artistic principle of depicting the reality at a time when blatantly manipulative
narratives were popular, this film is nonetheless a propaganda that sought to unite the lower class into
a common purpose, contributing their strengths and vitality for the communist industrial revolution.
One of the motifs in the film is the shots of the cameraman at work, often interwoven with the visuals
seen by the eye of the camera. Vertov composes this film with his method called kino eye that serves
to demystify film and strip away the illusion of its unmediated

My Mother s Blue Bowl
An impression is an initial reaction to a text or an experience. It is similar to talking without thinking
or the first response pregnancy test since an individual describes their first response about an event
based on little information. The short story My Mother s Blue Bowl written by Alice Walker left
readers with heartwarming, memorable and unforgettable impressions. To begin with, the initial
feeling left behind is a gratifying heartwarming thought. The mother displays the great lengths an
individual would go to protect and give her children the best experience of life. The houses they live
in clearly show the different challenges they face but, the mother never uses it as an excuse to let her
children down. For example, when Alice went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The comfort and cherishing moments are what last forever. Lastly, the final remarks of the story give
an unforgettable feeling and idea. The mother teaches the readers a lesson that is hard to ignore and
neglect. This unforgettable feeling is illustrated by the mother giving away her possessions and not
dwelling over them. She lets go of them as easily as a feather falls. For instance, the narrator explains
every time she visits her mother she owns less and gradually only has a small amount of stuff left
over. The narrator addresses the few things remaining are the ones given to her by her children. The
mother implies letting go of tangible things and holding on harder to remember the important people
is more precious. The remarkable idea of recycling everything and feeling no regret is unforgettable.
Many people value material possession rather than well being and actualized lives. The unforgettable
reaction of the mother being so genuinely happy and sustained with the smallest amount of objects is
shocking. Living in a materialistic society, an individual s wants and needs are luxuries of objects that

The Incidence Of Thyroid Cancer
The incidence of thyroid cancer is rapidly rising in the US accounting for 62,980 cases with 1890
deaths every year[1]. It is the seventh most common cancer diagnosed in women and peaks earlier
than in men. Despite its high prevalence, death rate from thyroid cancer is fairly stable from past many
years. In general, thyroid cancer offers a good prognosis with an overall survival rate of approximately
90%[2]. Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) termed as
differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) contribute to majority of thyroid cancers sharing a superior
prognosis. Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), mostly acquired as a part of familial syndromes,
display only modest cure rates. While surgical resection followed by radioiodine therapy remains the
treatment of choice for localized thyroid cancer, it fails to eradicate tumors with aggressive behavior.
In marked contrast to DTC, anaplastic carcinoma (ATC), an undifferentiated sub type of thyroid
cancer, has a higher propensity to locally invade nearby structures and metastasize rapidly. It
approaches to almost 50% of all thyroid cancer related deaths, the median survival being only six
months[3]. The grim prognosis of ATC is due to the fact that it is diagnosed at an advanced stage
which offers palliative treatment as the only option for patients suffering from the disease. Because of
the chemo and radio resistant nature observed in aggressive thyroid cancers, many researchers have

Latin School Concert Report
It was January 7th, 2017, the weather alert had been right, there was a pretty darn big snowstorm
outside, but inside, of the Boston Latin School auditorium, the 10th Annual MMEA Eastern Senior
District Festival were filled with excited spirits that were much bigger. There was a smattering of
students from each school in the Eastern District, and many BLS students were part of them. A feeling
of awe and admiration floated through me as I saw them enter the stage. In 4 years, I would be just
like them, I hoped.
There were 4 fantastic music ensembles that would perform: Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and
Chorus. Each group had a particular conductor, but all performed with much skill, gusto, and
professionalism.
The first to perform was the Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Emily Threinen (Director of Bands at the
Univeristy of Minnesota School of Music), with pieces such Nitro by Frank Ticheli and Sheltering
Sky by John Mackey. The ensemble s prominent performance, however, was in its last piece, Scenes
from the Louvre by Norman dello Joio. From the opening movement to the last note, the entire

Charles Mingus, and Body and Soul by George Stone. They also incorporated some other songs, such
as Tuning Up by Toshiki Akiyoshi, and Count Bubba by George Goodwin. Throughout the entire
performance, many soloists popped up and played with such tone and mood and dedication, with riffs
and dazzling techniques. The group also had wonderful cooperation and harmony with each other.

Sexual Harassment Policy
A workplace sexual harassment policy is a written policy to provide employees as well as managers,
with a workplace that is free from sexual harassment. It is designed to prevent the recurrence of sexual
harassment and to provide information on what sexual harassment is. The policy gives the employees
and victims the information needed to know how to file a claim. It also gives the perpetrator
information and understanding of just how serious sexual harassment in the workplace is and what the
consequences of engaging in sexual harassment are (LP5 handout Developing the Right Policy,

while doing so, express harsh disapproval of it. Additionally they should develop applicable sanctions
and notifying employees that they have the right to raise the issue of harassment and how to educate
the employees on the issue of harassment under Title VII. Furthermore, the managers and supervisors
should always be aware of the work environment and the possible difficulties of sexual harassment in
their company. They must also lead by example by emulating a zero tolerance behavior, making a

Analysis Of Petruchio In Don Quixote
Chivalry is dead, this is a phrase which is often heard in today s society. Many seem to believe that
there is little if not no chivalry in the world today, but what about in times past then? Was chivalry
truly a constant presence in the past or are there exceptions to this statement as well? In order to
analyze this question a look at the character Petruchio from Don Quixote will be done. This tale is
often seen as one that has chivalrous characters who work towards their end goals, but this particular
character has often been credited with overthrowing the concepts of chivalry as well. These facts
combined make for an interesting study on the idea of chivalry.
When Petruchio is first introduced into the story he immediately draws ... Show more content on

Each of these examples are just from Petruchio and Kate s wedding alone, and yet Petruchio character
shines through. Chivalrous acts would have included arriving on time to his own wedding, being
respectful enough towards his future wife to dress properly, and never referring to his new wife as a
piece of property to do with as he wishes. Unfortunately, none of this happened though.
The final, perhaps most glaring example of dishonorable actions towards Kate comes from Petruchio s
continued attempts to tame her. A chivalrous act is often considered something that is noble and kind,
something done for another person. What could easily be labeled as the most dishonorable choice that
Petruchio makes in all of this is assuming the air of chivalry to defend his actions. He claims to love
Kate so much that he does not want her subjected to inferior things, but the truth is he uses methods
such as starvation and sleep deprivation in order to control her. His actions in the end prove to appear
fruitful because it seems as though by the end of the tale she is an obedient and submissive wife, and
he has managed to still appear chivalrous to some just by this fact alone, because to them he has
managed to tame the shrew that was Kate.
In conclusion, a chivalrous person was and is to this day considered someone who is brave, honorable,
courteous, and

The Pros And Cons Of Health Care
As the health care crisis in the United States continues to evolve there needs to be federal involvement
in reform for access to health care and the health care system. Reform must be initiated in the private
sector of the health care system as well as the federally ran portion of health care in the United States.
Citizens of the United States are fond of our particular representation and limited government
intervention in our lives. Furthermore, the federal government does not have constitutional authority
to initiate any type of health care reform. This issue of health care was regulated to the states by the
Tenth Amendment to the Constitution since there are no provisions in the Constitution regarding
health care. Another important issue is health care a right or a privilege.
Is health care a right or a privilege is a simple question, but difficult to answer. The question is not so
much an economic question, as many people claim, but a moral issue.1
The United States has world class medical facilities and some of the finest doctors in the world. The
United States also spends a higher proportion of its Gross Domestic Product on health care than any
other nation is the world, but only ranks 37 out of 191 countries.2 Uneven access to health care across
the United States is a contributing factor for the poor outcome of the health care program. Even with
the passage of the Affordable Health Care Act there are approximately 29 million residents of the

Compare Reduced Instruction Set Computer (CISC And Cisc
Compare and contrast reduced instruction set computer (RISC) with the complex Instruction set
computer(CISC) [20]
Definitions:
(CISC) The term CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer or Computing) refers to computers
designed with a full set of computer instructions that were intended to provide needed capabilities in
the most efficient way. Later, it was discovered that, by reducing the full set to only the most
frequently used instructions, the computer would get more work done in a shorter amount of time for
most applications. Since this was called reduced instruction set computing (RISC), there was now a
need to have something to call full set instruction computers thus, the term CISC.
These complex instruction set computer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since each instruction type that a computer must perform requires additional transistors and circuitry,
a larger list or set of computer instructions tends to make the microprocessor more complicated and
slower in operation.
Most RISC designs use uniform instruction length for almost all instructions, and employ strictly
separate load/store instructions.
Throughout the years various suggestions have been made regarding a precise definition of RISC, but
the general concept is that of a system that uses a really small, highly optimized set of instructions,
rather than a more versatile set of instructions often found in other types of architectures like C.I.S.C,
another common trait is that RISC systems use the load/store architecture, which is where memory is
normally accessed only through certain specific instructions, rather than accessed as part of other
instructions like

how important their own learning experience is to them. For me, working with other students was a
very positive thing. I have had a hard time in the past with presenting, and having other people up
there with you really benefits me a lot because we were able to bounce around ideas and speak off one

not the case. It s easy to that coed classrooms aren t an issue and that all kids learn better from being
surrounded by boys and girls, but we had also talked about single sex classrooms and the benefits of
those. The class had a lot to say about this too because I think people really do like the idea of single

The lack of housing choices for minorities have meant that the quality of suburbanization that they
have achieved is distinctly different than that achieved by more advantage groups. For ethnical
minorities the freedom to choose where they wish to live is simply not a reality. For example, in the
USA black suburbanization is characterized by expansion of the urban ghetto population to areas just
outside city limits African Americans are the most residentially segregated racial or ethnic group in
America Regardless of their socioeconomic status, they are forced to persevere without the same equal
housing opportunities as white Americans.
Residential ethnical segregation was developed through discriminatory policies and local acts of
racism. Federal and local government housing discrimination, private discrimination, and exclusionary
zoning practices have resulted in the continuation of intentional discrimination against minorities,
many of whom still remain disenfranchised members of society. The devastating effects of residential
ethnical discrimination on the quality of life for minority families and for culture at large represent the
importance of initiating policies to integrate residential neighborhoods. Without the efforts of
integration, the negative effects of decades of bigoted housing policies will be exacerbated, therefore
perpetuating the existence of segregation and racial division.

Not all whom listened to the music, will agree. The statement whereas jazz was a moral disaster to
young girls is inaccurate because teenagers will choose to do whatever they want if it is morally
wrong as a result of growing up and experiencing life. Regardless of what kind of music is playing,
young teens will go as they please. As for the origins issue, people need to stop believing everything
they hear. That issue was developed by a music critic of the New York Herald Tribune. How can
everyone be so sure what that critic is saying is entirely true? III. Conclusion d. Both arguments of this
catastrophic impact that jazz has had on all American people are very strong. Unfortunately, one side
being stronger than the other. Opponents that opposed this argument had some valid points. Their
strongest being a moral disaster on young women. When they say young girls and guys have been

be pulling all types of different people together, that including of boys and girls. A girl and a boy find
that they both have the same interest in jazz music, so they might get to know each other and so on.

Effects Of The 1945 Recession
The 1945 recession resulted from the conclusion of World War II. Naturally, the economy does well
during a war due to all the consumer spending. Weapons must be bought during war, along with
different parts for tanks, airplanes, battleships, etc. In addition, with the departure of a large quantity
of men who serve as soldiers during the war, many more job opportunities become available for
women and others who may have simply not had jobs prior to the war. World War II was no different.
The economy did so well that it pulled the nation out of the Great Depression. World War II, like other
wars, was financially a success for the U.S.
With its end, the nation lost the huge demand for military supplies needed during war, causing a
recession.

Intelligence Vs And Isaac Asimov s Theory Of Multiple...
Most everyone who has undergone public schooling and standardized testing is familiar with the
thought Does this test even assess any real ability? . Generally, people who don t perform well on
these tests either believe that standardized testing only works for people who are book smart or that
standardized testing does not work at all. But what is book smart anyway? Some people tend to
generalize intelligence into two categories, people who are book smart and people who are street
smart , as exemplified in Isaac Asimov s What is Intelligence, Anyway? . In Asimov s excerpt, he tells
the story of a young woman who performed well when it came to standardized testing, but realized
that she was not street smart. When she went to her mechanic to fix her car, he asks her a trick
question and, when she answers incorrectly, says that he knew she would get it wrong because she was
so book smart that there was no way she was street smart (122 123). This leads to the distinction that
book smart refers to idealized and theoretical intelligence, while street smart refers to a type of hands
on intelligence. While this is a common way for people to view intelligence, there exists an even more
thorough examination of intelligence Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences which
outlines as many as nine types of intelligence. Bearing in mind that there are so many different types
of intelligence, it begs the question of whether or not standardized testing can really be a good

again. However, the militant Spartans took up arms and were able to defeat the large Persian army.
Thermopylae allowed the Greek forces to come up with various tactics and strategies in order to
defeat Persia. Next, the Battle of Salamis was a naval battle between several Greek city states and
Persia. This battle forms the turning point of the Greco Persian Wars since it ultimately saved Greece
from being absorbed into the Persian Empire and ensured the emergence of Western civilization as a
major force in the world. The ending of the Battle of Salamis left the Persian army trapped in Greece,
which paves the way for the final battle of the war, the Battle of Platea. In the battle, the Greek army
came and defeated the weakened Persians, the Persian Wars were over . The mark of the ending of the
Greco Persian wars gave way to Athens arising from the ashes as the dominant and central city state of
Greece, which then provides political and cultural advancements during its golden age. After the wars,
Athens emerges as the center of all activity amongst each city state in Greece. One of the key features
within the Athenian society was the arrangement of public assembly and the rule of the people,
democracy. In the assemblies, any male citizen could actively vote

Celtic Cross Research Paper
Celtic Cross
A cross having essentially the form of a Latin cross with a ring about the intersection of the crossbar
and upright and shaft (CITE HERE). From the outside looking in, that is what a Celtic cross would
appear to be, but the cross has a deeper meaning than just it s looks. The origin of the Celtic cross was
unknown but the Irish believe it was founded by Saint Patrick because he was trying to convert the
citizens of Ireland to Christianity. There were multiple theories behind the origin, however, the most
recognized theory was that St. Patrick merged the sun cross and a regular cross to give new supporters
a way to keep their old religion and make the transition to Christianity easier. The importance of the
sun cross was that it held life giving properties from the sun. Before Christianity, the people in Ireland
believed in many different gods and St. Patrick wanted them to worship one God. By combining these
two crosses, St. Patrick was able to get the Pagan people to become followers of Christianity. The

times, the cross was placed all over the countryside of Ireland to mark significant land, such as, sacred

scenes from the Bible molded onto them. When there is a Bible scene on the cross, each arm on the

Nacl Affects on Enzymatic Reaction Essay
The Effects that 1%, 4%, and 16% Sodium Chloride (NaCl) Concentration Had on the Rate of
Reaction of Catecholase Enzymes in a Potato (Solanum tuberosum).
Abstract
Enzymes are a key component of a cell. They make chemical reactions happen faster because they
lower the activation energy to make the chemical reaction occur. Most of the time, it is best if enzymes
produce as efficiently as possible, but in some cases it is better if they do not, when dealing with
potatoes (Solanum tuberosum). If the catecholase enzyme of the potato is hindered, it is less likely to
brown when it is cooked. To see how efficient sodium chloride is at slowing down these enzymes, the
experiment measured the rate of reaction when the enzymes were exposed ... Show more content on

There are three factors that will alter an enzyme: temperature, pH and salt. All three will change the
structure of the enzyme by denaturation and rendering it useless when a drastic change occurs from
levels that are normal. A slight alteration can speed up reaction to certain saturation or slow the
process of reaction. Enzymes have a substrate: the substrate for the catecholase enzyme is catechol
and oxygen. When the substrate combines with the catecholase enzyme of a potato, the product is a
reddish brown color called benzoquinone. This product is what turns fruits and vegetables brown
(Briggs and others 2010). Therefore, slowing or stopping the process of would increase shelf life of
some food, or at least make the foods appearance appetizing much longer. The equation for this
chemical reaction is:
Enzyme Substrate Product Catechol + Oxygen Catecholase Benzoquinone The hindering of the
Benzoquinone could alter the production, and could lower the cost of produce. Nathalie Santis and
others (2005) preformed an experiment to see the effects of various NaCl solutions on thin slices of
potato that were fried. The potatoes were sliced 3mm thick and 30mm in diameter, fourteen slices in
all. All fourteen were blanched at 70°C for five minutes. Seven were placed in pure water at 26°C and
the other seven went into several NaCl solutions (0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8%, 2.4%, 3.0%, 6.0% and

Analyzing The Evangelist Portraits By The Codex Amiatinus
Abstracts
Nick Baker (Princethorpe College)
Putting your Best Foot Forward: Reviewing the Evangelist Portraits in the Codex Amiatinus
The Christ in Majesty page (fol. 796v) has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention over the years.
Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed within a
jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the portraits
and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention they so
rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider artistic
context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It will also
highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet light, which
has uncovered much more about the design of these portraits than has previously been known. Meg
Boulton (University of York)
From Cover to Cover: (Re)Presentations of Ecclesia and Eschatology in the Codex Amiatinus
This paper considers the illuminated pages of the Codex Amiatinus, the vast and elaborate eighth
century manuscript produced in Northumbria intended as a papal gift to Rome, giving particular
attention to the Tabernacle diagram, or Temple page of the Codex as it has been variously identified
(fols IIv‒IIIr), in the context of the two other miniatures in the manuscript. Differing groups of
scholars argue that the conceptually

The Importance Of Animal Protocol
2. Experimental Section
The experimental protocol was approved by the animal ethics committee of Guangxi Medical
University (China, Nanning) and conformed to NIH guidelines. Animal preparation
Seventy five adult Sprague Dawley male rats (300 400g) were obtained from the Experimental Animal
Center of Guangxi Medical University. The animals were equally randomized into 5 group: sham, CA,
PD, SP, and SKF. The rats except sham group were assigned to 5 minutes CA and divided two
experiments, the first experiment included 45 rats for examination the survival rates and NDS, and the
second one included 30 rats for harvesting brain. The rat CA model was established by Chen et al [11].
In brief, all rats were fasted 12h before doing experiment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the report by Jia et al. We prespecified the NDS cut off for good (NDS≥60) and poor
(NDS 60) outcome which represents a level of neurologic function required for independent function
[12].
Tissue preparation
Thirty rats (n=6 for sham, CA, PD, SP and SKF groups respectively) were used for harvesting tissues
preparation. The animals were sacrificed at 72 h after CA/CPR. A left brain was used for ROS
detection, TdT mediated dUTP biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining and immunostaining. The
right hippocampal brains used for Western blot.
ROS detection
Harvested brains were embedded and frozen in CM1950 Cryostat Microtome (made in German
Leica), ROS production in neurons was assessed with dihydroethidium (DHE) as an indicator.Serial,
coronal frozen sections (5µm thick) were incubated with DHE (10 μmol/l) in PBS in a dark
humidified chamber (37°C, 30 min). Five fields from each coronal section were randomly selected by
Nikon A1 laser confocal microscope. Images were set by 20× objective lens at 1024×1024 pixels.
ROS levels were detected by the fluorescence density.
Western blot
The hippocampi were isolated from right brain for Western blot. Western blotting was performed
using the standard method [13]. The primary antibodies and dilutions were as follows: Primary
antibodies against phospho SAPK/JNK (No 4668, 1:1000), SAPK/JNK (No 9252, 1:1000);phospho
ERK1/2(No 9101,1:1000);ERK1/2 (No 4695,1:100);phospho p38 (No 9215,1:1000);

IQ Tests are Not an Accurate Measure of a Person s...
IQ tests are not an accurate measure of a person s intelligence. I will be analyzing the reasons why I
think that IQ tests are not an accurate measure of the intelligence. These reasons will be accompanied
with solid proven facts that will discount the accuracy that is falsely considered to be a part of IQ
tests. Today IQ tests are a part of many instances where intelligence is being judged.
Not an accurate measure The test that has today evolved as the IQ test was initially designed by Sir
Francis Galton. He had designed it to differentiate between the abnormal and normal intellectual
growth in children at that time. The capacities that he tested or that are generally tested today have not
been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another issue, with these tests are that many a time people view their criteria as very limited. For, e.g.
Gardner has claimed that there are multi dimensions to a person s intelligence, while these tests only
test a few of them. Thus, the tests are in no position to claim that they really represent the actual
intelligence of a person. The tests assess only a narrow range of abilities therefore if a person is adept
at a characteristic that is not being tested in the test then that person is deemed to be considered a
person with low IQ. Such a practice is not fair and cannot be generalized. (Gardner, 1983) (Plucker,
1998). A big argument is that the word Intelligence has not been defined in its full context yet.
Therefore, when a thing has not been understood properly then how can we design measures to gauge
them. Walter Lippmann a journalist from the 1920s said: We cannot measure intelligence when we
have not defined it. And I totally agree to it because to this day we have not decided upon the
characteristic of intelligence. It contains very many things and to narrow it down to a few would be
like being biased. Many characteristic has been defined, but many to this day remain unknown or
unexplainable. Jean Piaget has said that intelligence us never stagnant it grows and develops as

Persuasive Essay On Racism In Sports
Racism is prevalent in today s society and is exposed in the sports industry as well. Various athletes in
different sports field experience racism and face it everyday. Social media is a big platform for people
to criticize athletes for their failures and success. On the other hand more times than not, racism can
be found within the head of organizations of major sports, most noticeably football. The NFL has
condoned an abundance of racist actions towards players of Hispanic and African American descent;
therefore, the NFL should stop these problems by supporting athletes that take a stand, holding the
NFL owners accountable for their actions, and finally, not stereotyping young black athletes into a
position based off of racial factors. An organization like the NFL needs to support their athletes when
they decide to exercise their 1st amendment rights. For example, a current event that has ravished the
mainstream media would be over the controversy with Colin Kaepernick. There are 64 quarterbacks
total in the NFL at the time, Kaepernick not being one of them. At the end of the season Kaepernick
had a passer rating of 90.7 (ESPN, 2016) . That was better than ten starting quarterbacks in the league
at that time. Also, to add to his resume he only threw four interceptions during the season. His stats
prove that he s a proven NFL starter and his trip to the Superbowl in 2013 are examples of why he
should be added to any NFL roster. Why isn t he on a roster? It s primarily

Sea World Gold Coast Australia
Sea World Gold Coast Australia is a marine animal theme park. The park includes rides, shows and
marine attractions. Sea World founded Sea World Research Rescue Foundation Inc. (SWRRFI) which
committed to promote a number of marine research projects and rescue marine organisms activities.
Sea World s goals are to strengthen knowledge for youth about the ocean habitat and ecology of the
marine lives, encourage the public about the marine biodiversity conservation and promote youth
education and public awareness. Positioning Sea World as teach through lively activities is also a
priority.
Past media coverage of Sea World has been largely marine mammal topics based, with little
substantial discussion around animal conservation or Sea World information. Although the media port
of Sea World provides several marine animal contents, it leads to the media relations problem: Sea
World s media releases tend to using marketing strategies that have resulted in an increasing lack of
credibility in marine mammal conservation. This does not align with Sea World goals of youth
education and strengthened public awareness.
An opportunity therefore exists for Sea World to improve awareness of marine conservation,
ecological populations and research to marine animals in the short term via media coverage in
connection with SWRRF in Queensland.
1.2 Target publics
There are main audiences and publics will be targeted in order to push the opportunity as follows:

The Department Of Homeland Security Act
When one thinks of security, they tend to think of being protected, free from harm or danger. There are
various security threats that the world faces today. Threats could range from a series of cyber threats to
terrorist attacks. We are incessantly encountered with catastrophic man made and natural diseases. The
Department of Homeland Security measures the nation s vulnerabilities, meaning it takes initiative in
leading and evaluating vulnerabilities and coordinating with other federal, state, local, and private
entities to safeguard the most effective response. The creation of the country s 15th Cabinet
Department marked the largest reorganization of government since the Truman administration.
The Department of Homeland Security Act was created a year after September 11th, 2001 to ensure
the protection of the American border and the people; also to measure and monitor counterterrorism.
Since 2002, there have been six Secretaries of Homeland Security. The Secretary of Homeland
Security has the ability to impact and shape the agenda of how the United States of America executes
and defends the various players that try to attack us. Secretary Michael Chertoff, when compared to
the other five secretaries can be viewed as someone who had some gray areas, but successfully
executed and transformed the duties of this position, which was sought before him. His work and

Dead End In Norvelt Theme Essay
Theme:
In the book, Dead End in Norvelt, by Jack Gantos, there is a theme that the past influences the future.
This theme is underlying throughout all events in the novel, and as such, it is exemplified various
times throughout the story. One of the most prominent ways this is demonstrated throughout the story
is the fact that Eleanor Roosevelt founded the town and assigned the task of keeping health records of
the original members of the town to Mrs.Volker. On page 32, Mrs.Volker shows her devotion to her
job as she says Writing obits is doing my duty for Mrs.Roosevelt. This, said in Mrs.Volker s arrogant
voice, shows that Mrs.Volker believes it is her duty, not a request that she do this, and uses a phrase
often used with the emphasis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack does not seem to mind this, but his mother lectures him about this. She claims that he needs to
refrain from viewing movies such s this due to his frequent nosebleeds that stem from a sensitive
nose.In this scene, Jack s nose is not bleeding. This proves that the past influences the future because
he has had nosebleeds watching movies in the past but this time, even though he is not bleeding, he
was scolded and told to never watch them again. Due to an unusually sensitive nose earlier, he will not
be able to watch war movies in the future. At one point in the story, Miss Volker and the man who has
been selling Norvelt houses, Mr.Huffer, get into a heated debate. In this quarrel, Mrs.Volker claims
that the city should be preserved, however, Mr.Huffer is quick to note that Nothing last s forever.
Mrs.Volker quickly fires back, claiming that History last s forever. This shows that the past influences
the future as Mrs.Volker is aware of the fact that the history, which takes place in the past, lasts
forever. This goes to show that the past influences the future, due to the fact that the past is the future.
Therefore, there is an underlying theme throughout the book Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos that
the past influences

  • 6. Analysis Of Man With A Movie Camera Man with a Movie Camera is a portrayal of the life of the cameraman. Through the eye of the camera, it also shows the rapid industrialization of Soviet Russia through a glorifying perspective. The film fits into the socialist realism movement and seeks to paint a positive image of the Soviet Union before the viewers with realistic images. Knowing Vertov s background as a newsreel producer for the state, it is rather predictable that the film would feature the positive impacts of the communist revolution on Soviet life. By making this film, Vertov resolves his concern that there were films about various industries and the making of all kinds of other goods, and there had not yet been one about cinema (Hicks 178). Through the heroic depictions of the life of a cameraman, the film industry is exalted as one of the mechanical industries that drive the advancement of the Soviet Union. Although Vertov stayed loyal to his artistic principle of depicting the reality at a time when blatantly manipulative narratives were popular, this film is nonetheless a propaganda that sought to unite the lower class into a common purpose, contributing their strengths and vitality for the communist industrial revolution. One of the motifs in the film is the shots of the cameraman at work, often interwoven with the visuals seen by the eye of the camera. It is the seventh most common cancer diagnosed in women and peaks earlier than in men. Despite its high prevalence, death rate from thyroid cancer is fairly stable from past many years. In general, thyroid cancer offers a good prognosis with an overall survival rate of approximately 90%[2]. Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) termed as differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) contribute to majority of thyroid cancers sharing a superior prognosis. Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), mostly acquired as a part of familial syndromes, display only modest cure rates. While surgical resection followed by radioiodine therapy remains the treatment of choice for localized thyroid cancer, it fails to eradicate tumors with aggressive behavior. In marked contrast to DTC, anaplastic carcinoma (ATC), an undifferentiated sub type of thyroid cancer, has a higher propensity to locally invade nearby structures and metastasize rapidly. It approaches to almost 50% of all thyroid cancer related deaths, the median survival being only six months[3]. Many seem to believe that there is little if not no chivalry in the world today, but what about in times past then? In order to analyze this question a look at the character Petruchio from Don Quixote will be done. This tale is often seen as one that has chivalrous characters who work towards their end goals, but this particular character has often been credited with overthrowing the concepts of chivalry as well. Chivalrous acts would have included arriving on time to his own wedding, being respectful enough towards his future wife to dress properly, and never referring to his new wife as a piece of property to do with as he wishes. Unfortunately, none of this happened though. The final, perhaps most glaring example of dishonorable actions towards Kate comes from Petruchio s continued attempts to tame her. A chivalrous act is often considered something that is noble and kind, something done for another person. What could easily be labeled as the most dishonorable choice that Petruchio makes in all of this is assuming the air of chivalry to defend his actions. He claims to love Kate so much that he does not want her subjected to inferior things, but the truth is he uses methods such as starvation and sleep deprivation in order to control her. His actions in the end prove to appear fruitful because it seems as though by the end of the tale she is an obedient and submissive wife, and he has managed to still appear chivalrous to some just by this fact alone, because to them he has managed to tame the shrew that was Kate. Most everyone who has undergone public schooling and standardized testing is familiar with the thought Does this test even assess any real ability? . Generally, people who don t perform well on these tests either believe that standardized testing only works for people who are book smart or that standardized testing does not work at all. But what is book smart anyway? Some people tend to generalize intelligence into two categories, people who are book smart and people who are street smart , as exemplified in Isaac Asimov s What is Intelligence, Anyway? . In Asimov s excerpt, he tells the story of a young woman who performed well when it came to standardized testing, but realized that she was not street smart. When she went to her mechanic to fix her car, he asks her a trick question and, when she answers incorrectly, says that he knew she would get it wrong because she was so book smart that there was no way she was street smart (122 123). This leads to the distinction that book smart refers to idealized and theoretical intelligence, while street smart refers to a type of hands on intelligence. While this is a common way for people to view intelligence, there exists an even more thorough examination of intelligence Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences which outlines as many as nine types of intelligence. • 23. Celtic Cross Research Paper Celtic Cross A cross having essentially the form of a Latin cross with a ring about the intersection of the crossbar and upright and shaft (CITE HERE). From the outside looking in, that is what a Celtic cross would appear to be, but the cross has a deeper meaning than just it s looks. The origin of the Celtic cross was unknown but the Irish believe it was founded by Saint Patrick because he was trying to convert the citizens of Ireland to Christianity. There were multiple theories behind the origin, however, the most recognized theory was that St. Patrick merged the sun cross and a regular cross to give new supporters a way to keep their old religion and make the transition to Christianity easier. The importance of the sun cross was that it held life giving properties from the sun. Before Christianity, the people in Ireland believed in many different gods and St. Patrick wanted them to worship one God. By combining these two crosses, St. Patrick was able to get the Pagan people to become followers of Christianity. The Celtic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 24. Nacl Affects on Enzymatic Reaction Essay The Effects that 1%, 4%, and 16% Sodium Chloride (NaCl) Concentration Had on the Rate of Reaction of Catecholase Enzymes in a Potato (Solanum tuberosum). Abstract Enzymes are a key component of a cell. They make chemical reactions happen faster because they lower the activation energy to make the chemical reaction occur. Most of the time, it is best if enzymes produce as efficiently as possible, but in some cases it is better if they do not, when dealing with potatoes (Solanum tuberosum). If the catecholase enzyme of the potato is hindered, it is less likely to brown when it is cooked. To see how efficient sodium chloride is at slowing down these enzymes, the experiment measured the rate of reaction when the enzymes were exposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three factors that will alter an enzyme: temperature, pH and salt. All three will change the structure of the enzyme by denaturation and rendering it useless when a drastic change occurs from levels that are normal. A slight alteration can speed up reaction to certain saturation or slow the process of reaction. Enzymes have a substrate: the substrate for the catecholase enzyme is catechol and oxygen. When the substrate combines with the catecholase enzyme of a potato, the product is a reddish brown color called benzoquinone. This product is what turns fruits and vegetables brown (Briggs and others 2010). Therefore, slowing or stopping the process of would increase shelf life of some food, or at least make the foods appearance appetizing much longer. The equation for this chemical reaction is: Enzyme Substrate Product Catechol + Oxygen Catecholase Benzoquinone The hindering of the Benzoquinone could alter the production, and could lower the cost of produce. Nathalie Santis and others (2005) preformed an experiment to see the effects of various NaCl solutions on thin slices of potato that were fried. The potatoes were sliced 3mm thick and 30mm in diameter, fourteen slices in all. All fourteen were blanched at 70°C for five minutes. Seven were placed in pure water at 26°C and the other seven went into several NaCl solutions (0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8%, 2.4%, 3.0%, 6.0% and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Analyzing The Evangelist Portraits By The Codex Amiatinus Abstracts Nick Baker (Princethorpe College) Putting your Best Foot Forward: Reviewing the Evangelist Portraits in the Codex Amiatinus The Christ in Majesty page (fol. 796v) has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention over the years. Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed within a jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the portraits and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention they so rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider artistic context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It will also highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet light, which has uncovered much more about the design of these portraits than has previously been known. Meg Boulton (University of York) From Cover to Cover: (Re)Presentations of Ecclesia and Eschatology in the Codex Amiatinus This paper considers the illuminated pages of the Codex Amiatinus, the vast and elaborate eighth century manuscript produced in Northumbria intended as a papal gift to Rome, giving particular attention to the Tabernacle diagram, or Temple page of the Codex as it has been variously identified (fols IIv‒IIIr), in the context of the two other miniatures in the manuscript. • 27. IQ Tests are Not an Accurate Measure of a Person s... IQ tests are not an accurate measure of a person s intelligence. I will be analyzing the reasons why I think that IQ tests are not an accurate measure of the intelligence. These reasons will be accompanied with solid proven facts that will discount the accuracy that is falsely considered to be a part of IQ tests. Today IQ tests are a part of many instances where intelligence is being judged. Not an accurate measure The test that has today evolved as the IQ test was initially designed by Sir Francis Galton. He had designed it to differentiate between the abnormal and normal intellectual growth in children at that time. The capacities that he tested or that are generally tested today have not been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another issue, with these tests are that many a time people view their criteria as very limited. For, e.g. Gardner has claimed that there are multi dimensions to a person s intelligence, while these tests only test a few of them. Thus, the tests are in no position to claim that they really represent the actual intelligence of a person. The tests assess only a narrow range of abilities therefore if a person is adept at a characteristic that is not being tested in the test then that person is deemed to be considered a person with low IQ. Such a practice is not fair and cannot be generalized. (Gardner, 1983) (Plucker, 1998). A big argument is that the word Intelligence has not been defined in its full context yet. Therefore, when a thing has not been understood properly then how can we design measures to gauge them. Walter Lippmann a journalist from the 1920s said: We cannot measure intelligence when we have not defined it. And I totally agree to it because to this day we have not decided upon the characteristic of intelligence. It contains very many things and to narrow it down to a few would be like being biased. Many characteristic has been defined, but many to this day remain unknown or unexplainable. Jean Piaget has said that intelligence us never stagnant it grows and develops as ... • 28. Persuasive Essay On Racism In Sports Racism is prevalent in today s society and is exposed in the sports industry as well. Various athletes in different sports field experience racism and face it everyday. Social media is a big platform for people to criticize athletes for their failures and success. On the other hand more times than not, racism can be found within the head of organizations of major sports, most noticeably football. The NFL has condoned an abundance of racist actions towards players of Hispanic and African American descent; therefore, the NFL should stop these problems by supporting athletes that take a stand, holding the NFL owners accountable for their actions, and finally, not stereotyping young black athletes into a position based off of racial factors. An organization like the NFL needs to support their athletes when they decide to exercise their 1st amendment rights. For example, a current event that has ravished the mainstream media would be over the controversy with Colin Kaepernick. There are 64 quarterbacks total in the NFL at the time, Kaepernick not being one of them. At the end of the season Kaepernick had a passer rating of 90.7 (ESPN, 2016) . That was better than ten starting quarterbacks in the league at that time. Also, to add to his resume he only threw four interceptions during the season. His stats prove that he s a proven NFL starter and his trip to the Superbowl in 2013 are examples of why he should be added to any NFL roster. Why isn t he on a roster? It s primarily ... Sea World s goals are to strengthen knowledge for youth about the ocean habitat and ecology of the marine lives, encourage the public about the marine biodiversity conservation and promote youth education and public awareness. Positioning Sea World as teach through lively activities is also a priority. Past media coverage of Sea World has been largely marine mammal topics based, with little substantial discussion around animal conservation or Sea World information. Although the media port of Sea World provides several marine animal contents, it leads to the media relations problem: Sea World s media releases tend to using marketing strategies that have resulted in an increasing lack of credibility in marine mammal conservation. This does not align with Sea World goals of youth education and strengthened public awareness. An opportunity therefore exists for Sea World to improve awareness of marine conservation, ecological populations and research to marine animals in the short term via media coverage in connection with SWRRF in Queensland. 1.2 Target publics There are main audiences and publics will be targeted in order to push the opportunity as follows: Queensland youths ... • 31. Dead End In Norvelt Theme Essay Theme: In the book, Dead End in Norvelt, by Jack Gantos, there is a theme that the past influences the future. This theme is underlying throughout all events in the novel, and as such, it is exemplified various times throughout the story. One of the most prominent ways this is demonstrated throughout the story is the fact that Eleanor Roosevelt founded the town and assigned the task of keeping health records of the original members of the town to Mrs.Volker. On page 32, Mrs.Volker shows her devotion to her job as she says Writing obits is doing my duty for Mrs.Roosevelt. This, said in Mrs.Volker s arrogant voice, shows that Mrs.Volker believes it is her duty, not a request that she do this, and uses a phrase often used with the emphasis ... She claims that he needs to refrain from viewing movies such s this due to his frequent nosebleeds that stem from a sensitive nose.In this scene, Jack s nose is not bleeding. This proves that the past influences the future because he has had nosebleeds watching movies in the past but this time, even though he is not bleeding, he was scolded and told to never watch them again. Due to an unusually sensitive nose earlier, he will not be able to watch war movies in the future. At one point in the story, Miss Volker and the man who has been selling Norvelt houses, Mr.Huffer, get into a heated debate. In this quarrel, Mrs.Volker claims that the city should be preserved, however, Mr.Huffer is quick to note that Nothing last s forever. Mrs.Volker quickly fires back, claiming that History last s forever.
