Cancer Immunoediting And Its Effect On Cancer Essay
Abstract:
The last fifteen years have seen a reemergence of interest in cancer immunosurveillance and a
broadening of this concept into one termed cancer immunoediting. The latter, supported by strong
experimental data derived from murine tumor models and provocative correlative data obtained by
studying human cancer, holds that the immune system not only protects the host against development
of primary nonviral cancers but also sculpts tumor immunogenicity. Cancer immunoediting is a
process consisting of three phases: elimination (i.e., cancer immunosurveillance), equilibrium, and
escape. Herein, we summarize the data supporting the existence of each of the three cancer
immunoediting phases. The full understanding of the immunobiology of cancer immunosurveillance
and immunoediting will hopefully stimulate development of more effective immunotherapeutic
approaches to control and/or eliminate human cancers.
Summary:
Comments made decades ago by the architects of the cancer immunosurveillance hypothesis, Burnet
and Thomas, that there is little ground for optimism about cancer (Burnet, 1957) and the greatest
trouble with the idea of immunosurveillance is that it cannot be shown to exist in experimental
animals (Thomas, 1982), reflect the problems that, until recently, fomented intense debate over
whether natural immune defense mechanisms can protect the host against the development of cancers
of nonviral origin. The difficulty was clear: if immunosurveillance of

Isolation And Cognition, By Octavia Butler And Philip Jose...
Literature is not as one dimensional as many people think. It is not a frivolous study for those who are
poor at math and science. No, literature is a conduit that connects an individual to the vast, ever
expanding pool of human knowledge. In addition to connecting us to the past and improving our
writing skills, literature widens our perspectives allowing us to explore the strengths as well as the
faults of human individuals and societies. Some genres of literature are better than others when
exploring human nature, and science fiction is one of the best. Darko Suvin, author of an analysis on
science fiction titled Estrangement and Cognition, assets that all science fiction introduces a new idea,
called a novum, that effectively challenges a reader s worldview. It can educate us about other cultures
and increase sympathies for those who we see as different from us simply by giving us exposure to
what is foreign. Authors Octavia Butler and Philip José Farmer both use cognitive estrangement in this
way to suggest and reinforce the idea that humans are too resistant to change, and are inherently
xenophobic.
It is important to understand how science fiction is used to convey an author s ideas. In a nutshell,
Darko Suvin delineates science fiction as a literary genre that utilizes cognitive estrangement in order
to build an imaginary, yet believable, world centered around a novum (Suvin 7 8). He further defines
estrangement as the creative and fantastic side of the genre. The

Cubism, Orphism And Futurism Share A Common Language,...
The early 20th century in Europe was a time of rapid change. Modern art movements explored new
ways of communicating this new modern condition what is was like to live in an environment that was
advancing and developing with incrediable speed . Dynamism became a means for the artists of the
time to communicate what has been termed the modern condition.
Cubism, Orphism and Futurism share a common language, Dynamism. Dynamism is a mechanism for
communicating a sense of change or movement.. Artists also invested their own emotions of what they
were experiencing through the use of dynamism. Viewers can understand that there was an
excitement, anxiety and uncertainty associated with living this bustling, changing society. The
movements reflected societies appreciation and interest in freedom of movement in art across Europe
prior World War One. People were immensely excited by speed, technology and new forms of
transport and communication. They all felt the world around them was begining to quickly change.
The artists of the time employed dynamism in their works to express this rapid movement.
Cubism responded to the world changing at a revoulutionary speed dynamically communicated
through abstract art. Cubists disregarded traditonal ways of portraying a subject, and instead broke
down the subject matter into scattered shapes and objects. According to Spain s National Museum of
Art, Cubism demonstrated conclusively that the experience of moderity was bound to a dynamic and

My Stranger Experience By Dr. John Howard, At The Dinah...
For my Stranger Experience, I went to a lecture called Picturing Queer Souths , which was taught by
Dr. John Howard, at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. He is a professor at King s College in
London, and he is also a University of Alabama alumnus. During this lecture, he discussed the
different aspects of LGBT photography and how sexuality can be expressed through that medium,
whether there are members of the community physically present in that photographs or not. There was
a specific focus on southern photographers that are members of the LGBT community, not only in the
American South, but also in relatively southern parts of the world, like South Africa for example.
Through his lecture, Dr. Howard explored the idea that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experience of attending the lecture was incredibly interesting to me. Personally, I identify as a
heterosexual woman, so this was actually the first time I ever visited a place that was focused on
LGBT life experiences and art. Interestingly enough, although the space was not necessarily queer
exclusive, I believe that a majority of the attendees were members of the queer community. This led to
several questions after the lecture pertaining to personal experiences from members of the community
and how they related to the lecture that was shared. I think that one of the aspects of strangeness I
experienced was the fact that I did not feel comfortable asking a question that I had at the end of the
lecture. There was nothing necessarily telling me that I could not ask a question, in fact, it was
encouraged for the most part. I simply felt like I was in a space that was specifically for queer people
and that it was not my place to speak up, since I typically have the privilege of having my voice heard
daily.
Another aspect that felt strange to me was the overt sexuality of many of the photographs that were
shown. I grew up in a very conservative Christian household, where I was taught that sexuality was
something that was private and sex itself was reserved for married couples. Many of the photos shown
during Dr. Howard s lecture showed partial or complete nudity, or were candid photos of LGBT
couples participating in sex acts. This was

Because of my support of Michael and Janeen Damian and their amazing movie High Strung, I have
become aware of many other magnificent musicians and artists in the business, and Keith Cullen is
one of them. At this point, he is best known for his song Say Something, which can be heard in the
movie and soundtrack for High Strung, and I was pleased that he took some time to answer a few
questions about his music, his outlook on the business, and even a hint as to his future aspirations.
RH: What inspired you to become a musician? What kind of training have you had in music?

How would you describe your style of music?
My style is a cross between pop and adult contemporary. I m often told that my music is catchy and
my lyrics are easily relatable which is the main aim of the music I create.
Where do you get the ideas for your songwriting?
My ideas come from a wide range of places. I like to go through life learning and absorbing as much
as I can. For this reason, I have many thoughts and ideas which I can then translate into music.
Songwriting is a way for me to express myself and definitely an outlet for a lot of what I am
experiencing and feeling.
So how did you get connected with Michael Damian and High Strung?
You could call this The Luck of the Irish. While I was recording the song in a studio in LA, the
producer of the movie, Michael Damian, overheard the song as he just happened to be in the same
studio and knew immediately that the song was a fit for the movie, and my management team handled
it from there.

A Brief Note On Sand And Art Play
Providing both a sand area and an art area as play centers in a children s hospital playroom is essential
for providing a variety of therapeutic, sensory, child directed, and developmentally appropriate play
activities. Sand and art play can help children of various ages to express themselves, work on their
fine motor skills, unleash their creativity, and just be kids while in the unfamiliar and potentially
frightening hospital environment (CITE 1). There is evidence that helps to support the functions and
needs for a sand area and an art area in a children s hospital playroom.
There is a wide range of modalities in which sand play can be used with children. For example,
children are able to make shapes, express themselves, and much more through sand play. Given these
various modalities, sand play has many strengths and can be considered a therapeutic medium for play
(CITE 4). According to Louise Craig, when children are engaged in sand play they are simultaneously
using both hands, which means that children are using both lobes of the brain, which, in turn, benefits
the total involvement of the person in their play (CITE 4). Sand play has been argued to be an easy
medium to therapeutic play, as it requires no skills or talent and it provides children with control over
an environment. There is evidence that both extroverted and introverted children can benefit from the
use of sand play.
Sand play is considered a sensory play activity. Sensory play activities allow

Marius Pontmercy should not be convicted for his participation in the rebellion against the French
government because it was not a direct assault on the government. First, Marius father, Georges
Pontmercy, was a soldier in Napoleon s army. He fought long and hard for a cause he believed in and
because Marius had great respect for his father he probably wanted to honor his legacy by following
his example. Second, the friends of Marius were very involved in the uprising and Marius felt
obligation to support his friends in their cause. Finally, the Marius father was a dedicated soldier at the

Similarities Between Death Of A Salesman And Soucouyant
Memory and Memory loss in Death of a Salesman and Soucouyant
The Death of a Salesman and Soucouyant both broach the topic of memory, in opposite but
complementary ways. Where Death is about falsifying positive memories, and Soucouyant is about
forgetting to forget . Where adeles memories are a trauma, and very much tried to forget, willies
memories are a solace to him, and a way for him to cope with his failures. Both detail an
unchronological slip of a figure into mental illness, and both end in death. Both glorify the American

this dream, coming close but never seeming to reach it. However, in Adele and Rogers case, this is due

A non arbitrary architecture is an architecture incorporate nature and culture to define the life of a

the tenants comfort since they are illogically made instead of emphasising the design to standout to
meet the requirements of people, places and landscape in a real world. The implantation of building

Teamwork Essay Examples
As a child, I learned teamwork is an essential part of our everyday activities. It is an aspect that has
becomes even more crucial to me in the adult world. To work alongside others with respect and
understanding leads to trust and wellness. When I began my college journey I was drawn to the
teamwork demonstrated at the rock wall on campus. Here I acquired the skills needed to belay rock
climbers. As a belayer you first need to explain to your climber that you have the skills and
qualifications for them to trust you, a quality you need to demonstrate in seconds to minutes. Once
trust is earned, it is the belayer s responsibility to be respectful, encouraging, and understanding to the
ability of the climber. The goal is to keep the climber calm and unscathed while they reach their goal.

Analysis Of Vasquez s Theories And Factors Influencing...
Vasquez employs a gear analogy to express the interconnected nature of each of the four STEM
capabilities. Like the meshing of teeth on a system of gears, the four STEM fields are best taught,
learned and assessed together (Vasquez, Sneider, Comer, 2013, p. 12). Furthermore, Vasquez (2013)
recommends the following five guiding principles to guide the gear mesh alignment of the STEM
fields: focus on integration, establish relevance, emphasize 21st Century skills, challenge your
students, and mix it up (p. 18 19). However, Vasquez (2013) remains cognizant of the challenging
nature of implementing all five principles and urges educators to remember you don t have to do it all
(p.21). The subsequent paragraphs are an introspection regarding the degree of implementation and
the factors influencing the execution of the aforementioned principles in my current setting. The
primary principle expressed by Vasquez is the focus on integration. Vasquez(2013) states, that
combining two or more of the disciplines helps students see the relatedness of the concepts tying
together seemingly disjointed blocks of information (p.22). The yearly pacing of science instruction
shapes integration of the four disciplines. Science instruction occurs primarily during the third and
fourth quarter. A brief unit on magnetism takes place at the beginning of the second quarter.
Additionally, the emphasis on number sense and computation during this period is less conducive to
integration than the

Color and Mood
Overall, results indicate that the manipulation of the color of questionnaire had no effect on mood.
However, there was an effect of time of day on mood as well as an effect of gender on mood. The
results did not support the main hypothesis that different colors would elicit different moods. Thus,
this study found no support for the prediction that brighter colors would elicit positive moods, whereas
less bright colors would elicit negative moods. These results do not support past research findings that
brighter colors tend to elicit positive moods, whereas, dark colors elicit negative moods (Hemphill,
1996; Kaya Epps, 2004). Moreover, this result was not expected given the previously discussed
research by Weller and Livingston (1988) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They found that men tended to have higher scores than women on the Self assurance subscale in all
ten samples they examined, although this difference was small. Moreover, there does not appear to be
a clear reason that in our study men had higher scores than women on the surprise subscale.
Furthermore, the finding that men rated their moods higher on several subscales was intriguing, since
past research that examined the relationship between colors and emotions suggested that women were
emotionally oriented and reported more emotional responses to colors than men (Hemphill, 1996).
Furthermore, results did not support the hypothesis that the 1:00 PM class would have more positive
moods than the 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM classes; however, results did suggest that mood was affected by
the time of day. Nevertheless, only particular times were affected, for instance the 4:00 PM late
afternoon class had higher scores for the negative moods than the 8:00 AM class. Also, the 4:00 PM
class had higher scores on the shyness subscale than the 1:00 PM midday class. The results that the
late afternoon class had more negative mood than the midday appear to go against the current
literature given that the research suggests that Negative Affect does not fluctuate throughout the day
and is not related to the circadian rhythm (Murray et al., 2002). In contrast, Positive Affect appears to
be related to the circadian rhythm, tends to increase throughout the day until about 9pm, when PA

economic and political outlook. To begin one will address the political outlook of these two countries,

branch, both countries have a Supreme Court ( The World Factbook: IRELAND , 2017, Pg. 1). Whose
role is to hear legal cases of significant magnitude to the country and/or its citizens. One key
difference is that in Ireland the judges in the Supreme Court cannot serve past age 70 , whereas in the
United States the judges are appointed for life ( The World Factbook: IRELAND , 2017, Pg. 1).
Hence, the age of justices varies between these two republics. These three major branches of
government can also overlap at times to provide a peaceful resolution or to resolve active disputes.
Now for the economic outlook of these two countries. This comparing, and contrasting segment is
more difficult than the political outlook. Since, these two countries do vary quite significantly in terms
of population and size. For instance, Ireland s population as of July 2016 was just below five million,
which is incomparable to the roughly 324 million United States population ( The World Factbook:
IRELAND , 2017, Pg. 1). That means the Irish population could be added about 65 times to reach the
American population. However, these two nations do have some similarities. First, both countries rely
heavily on technology to propel their economic growth and expansion. For Ireland has a talented pool

Michelle Obama called on Americans to step up their self sacrifice on the 27th of June by declaring
the day a National Health Care Day of Service. In her two minutes speech, Michelle officially kicked
off United We Serve, a plea to all Americans to join a volunteer endeavor and be part of constructing a
new foundation for America, one society at a time (The Obama White House, 2009). The program was
managed by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal organization devoted to
development service in communities across America. The introduction of her speech immediately
captures the audience attention. She refers from president Obama s remarks on the challenges facing
Americans. She then moves on to launch her idea on the volunteerism program immediately outlining
the efforts the government has put in place to help address the economic challenges. Her language is
clearly stated and she uses persuasive words to convince the Americans (the audience) to join the
initiative (Dlugan, 2008). She engaged the audience s mind in the current state and provides best
alternatives. She then states the need states the need for intervention and calls for audience attention.
However, Michelle does not develop sufficient evidence to the real cause of the problems affecting the

Reduction In Force Process
Administrators are very important for all companies as they are assigned sensitive and specific roles
that make certain the company operates at its optimum capacity. At the same time, administrators
ensure all employees perform their expected duties within the company. Among all the roles the
administrators are assigned, conducting a Reduction In Force (RIF) in the company is one of them.
Reduction in the workforce in any company should be handled professionally and amicably whilst
ensuring that the company, the administration, and the employees are all in understanding at that
point. The termination of an employee s employment or contract should only take place when a
company can no longer sustain the entire workforce in addition to not meeting its goals and objectives.
As an administrator, there are several ways that the reduction in force process should be conducted at
the same time as observing various laws that protects employees from sudden termination of their
employment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

chances of litigation if an employee feels he has been unfairly dismissed by the company (Gray,

creating a logical timeline that states how the RIF will be done. The timeline ensures that all decisions
that are made will have been thoroughly deliberated, the creation of proper documentation, and
ensuring all involved parties work together. The timeline also ensures that the employer studies the

Wildfire Pollution
An estimated 212 million people in the United States live in an area affected by wildfire pollution
(Knowlton, 2013); a number that, due to global climate change, will only continue to rise (Westerling
et al., 2006; Settele et al., 2014). The effects of exposure to wildfire smoke on human health are hard
to quantify because the long term effects often go unnoticed. One estimate for global premature death
rate due to exposure of wildfire smoke is 399,000 persons annually (Johnston et al., 2012). There are
many serious health risks associated with exposure to wildfire smoke, many of which remain poorly
understood. A 2016 systematic review entitled Critical Review of Health Impacts of Wildfire Smoke
Exposure compiled information from multiple studies examining the health effects of exposure to
wildfire smoke. The study reviewed every reference found within its search parameters over three
databases, selecting for papers without potential biases including small sample size and unreliable
smoke exposure assessment methods (Reid et al., 2016). The results of the remaining 103 studies were
them compiled and compared to assess for the consistency of their findings (Reid et al., 2016). The
study found that smoke from wildfires contains toxins such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide,
ozone, volatile organic compounds, and particulate matter (PM) (Naeher et al. 2007). Particulate

Relationship Between Relationships And Family Structures
Relationships can either be monogamous or non monogamous in nature and its definitions and
functions can vary. A monogamous relationship is traditionally characterised by two individuals who
have dependent children or also as a nuclear family. Monogamy is a hetero normative practice that
involves two individuals in a relationship; the couple is not engaged in extramarital intimacy. Nuclear
families also fall under this practice. Polyamory is a non monogamous practice that refers to multiple
intimate partners and experiences. However, some scholars argue that if, or when one individual
engages in infidelity, Polyamory is a viable option to sustain the relationship. Academic research
positions Polyamory as an option that may successfully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
underpins marriage in many Western and some non Western countries. Scholars have continued to
argue the success of monogamous relationships. Harville Hendrix (1990) explains that monogamy is a
healing practice. Partners in monogamous relationships go through many stages and struggles as a
committed couple. Through struggle, partners act as healers that help to work through each other s
suffering (Hendrix 1990). Hendrix (1990) believes individuals choose their partners to work through
the pain together and help them grow through life. Monogamous marriage is a spiritual path to
happiness and commitment between two individuals (Hendrix 1990). A committed relationship
requires monogamy, and Hendrix (1990) contends that healthy and spiritual commitments encourage
the sustainability of monogamous relationships. Although Hendrix (1990) contends that monogamy is
an effective practice, research has largely built a case around the consequences of monogamous
relationships.
Debates have circled around the experiences within nuclear families and monogamous relationships,
and Stelbourn (1999) proclaims it is a largely patriarchal practice. Stelbourn (1999) uses Engel s work
during the eighteenth century, to explain the still existent contemporary debate around the
consequences of monogamy. The work of Friedrich Engels (Stelbourn 1999) focused on the division
between mothers as housewives, and fathers as workers in nuclear families. Women were reduced in

Alinsky s Rules For Radicals Analysis
Alinsky s rules for radicals were written by Saul Alinsky in 1972. The rules were created to develop a
process for organization. Alinsky s rules were broken into two different types, tactics with 13 rules and
ends and means with 11 rules. The four rules I chose to discuss were from the tactics list of rules.
Alinsky s rules for radicals are applicable in many ways and also are somewhat biased. The first rule I
chose was the seventh rule of tactics, Alinsky states, A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a
drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues. . I agree with the purpose of
this rule because people need variety in an organization or else they get bored. People need any kind
of variations of work that they can get within an organization over a prolonged period of time in order
to stay productive and efficient. Variation also allows for the members of an organization to gain
additional experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with this rule because we, as human beings, are prone to over complicate a simple situation.
For example, we look at a situation, we then get overwhelmed by it, then, when the situation is over,
we feel as though we shouldn t have been worried about the situation at all. A Biblical example of this
tactic is in Genesis 3, starting in verse 1 by saying Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the
wild animals that the Lord God made and finishing in verse 15 by the Lord saying to the serpent He
will strike your head and you will strike his heel (HCSB). At first, the serpents description makes him
seem very intimidating but within the same chapter the serpent was told how he will meet his ends,
which discredits any prior intimidation that the serpent had. This tactic is true for all organizations
because despite how difficult a challenge may seem, people are more than likely willing to help if they

The Problem Of Instant Space Travel
With all of the television shows showing instant arrival, and teleportation, how come they aren t
possible yet? A problem that some people are trying to solve is, instant space travel, well almost
instant. There are a few smaller problems, hidden within this larger main point; to be more specific,
three problems. The main paragraphs will discuss the problem and the possible solution. What are the
problems, that are in the way of fast, safe, and efficient space travel? They are as follows, Price,
Safety, and the engine. The ability to travel through the stars, was always a dream of many children,
but now, with the technology that is possessed, what is stopping that dream from becoming a reality?
There may be difficult hurdles to go over, but the solutions aren t as far as one might think.
With the current limitations of our technology and the overall price of spaceflight, our space program
is unable to go as far as we could. The current price is far too high for reasonable space travel, but,
how much does a trip to, let s say, Mars, cost? Well, according to The Mars Society:
Estimates of the cost of a human Mars exploration program over the years have been wildly disparate,
leaving much confusion in their wake. On the high end of the scale was the Space Exploration

must first look at the audit concerns of the overall industry in which it operates. Therefore, in order to
properly evaluate Caesars Entertainment Corporation, the gaming industry must be taken into
consideration. Specifically, industry trends and strategies, competitors, business processes, regulation
and oversight, special accounting and financial reporting practices, internal controls, major risks, as
well as the implications of those risks will be addressed. Industry Trends and Strategies While the
gaming industry was once considered to be recession proof, it endured significant losses at the height

Note that all transfers to the table from the cage and to the cage from the table are documented. The
only step in the process that goes undocumented is the specific wager by player each round. The
change in money at the table is often referred to as the table gross gaming revenue. The basic
equitation is: Cash + Markers Fills + Credits + Beg Inventory (chips) Ending Inv = Gross revenue (
Description 6). Machine Cycle The machine operating cycle is similar to the area cycle. Each slot
machine contains a hopper that is filled in the cage with a predetermined amount of currency. When
players insert money into the slots, excess coins overflow into the drop bucket. When the machine
pays out to players, the hopper is decreased. The coins are removed from the machine, taken to the
cage, counted and recorded in the cage. A count of the coins is referred to as a hard count. When large
jackpots are hit, they require supervisor permission to payout. It is common for casinos to purchase
jackpot insurance. For record keeping, the insurance payment is to be amortized over its life, and
insurance received is not to count against jackpot liabilities. There are several variations on this cycle.
Some jurisdictions do not allow slot machines to accept currency. When slots do not accept currency,
tickets are issued that are convertible to currency when the player desires. In some cases, funds are
transferred to and from the machine electronically. Other

Qin Shi Huang And The Unification Of China
As centuries pass, historians are still able to remember the achievements attained by the first emperor
of unified China. Although known as a ruthless ruler, we can acknowledge that the successes he had
were lasting and helpful for the future of China. Qin Shi Huang became the first emperor of China at
220 BCE after his uncle passed the throne onto him and founded the Qin Dynasty. During this time
period, China was divided into many kingdoms. Qin s main goal in life was to unify China under his
rule. In order to do so, he waged war against the other six major kingdoms. By 221 BCE, he was able
to unify China under his rule. It was the first time that China became unified. Qin Shi Huang was able
to create a large impact on China s history due to the starting the idea of the Great Wall, developing a
system of writing, and the unification of China.
Qin Shi Huang inherited the throne at the age of thirteen and was named as the Chinese head of state
of Qin. At the age of 38, Qin renamed himself the first emperor and called himself Shi Huangdi. When
he named himself as Shi Huang Di, he chose it because huangdi would tie himself to the first king
since he believed Huang outranked wang . During that time period, wang was known to be king. He
used di because it meant he had the divine right to rule, and shi meant he was the first emperor of
China. All in all, his name combined means the first emperor of China. He changed his title because
he believed that he deserved it since he was able to establish a unified China. Qin Shi Huang did not
recognize the past rulers as emperors because the past rulers did not rule a unified state. He was then
known as Qin Shi Huang to rulers after him. The country was wealthy and powerful when Qin Shi
Huang ruled the kingdom but after Qin died, the dynasty fell apart.
Qin Shi Huang had a large impact on China s culture. He helped implement canals and roads for easier
travel. He started the imperial road system and created fast roads. He was extremely influential in
China s government. Qin declared that the round coins with a square shaped hole in the center will be
the currency of China. He named it the bang liang coin. The first emperor was able to create a

The Construction Of The Roman Empire
Motorways
Thousands of years ago, the invention of the wheel gave the people the opportunity to complete their
work easier, moving around the areas faster. The construction of the Roman Empire roads allowed
people to reach the Roman dominion around Europe. Their first effort to create a road system was
between 43AD and 400AD, when they conquered Britain in order to have better access to main
financial centres. By creating road network, they tried to expand the potential market throughout the
empire. The whole network was 3,000 kilometres in length, covered most of England, Wales and
Southern Scotland [1]. After the departure of Romans from Britain and the fall of the Roman Empire,
little effort was made for the improvement of the network system in Europe. Only at the first decades
of the 18th century, due to the Industrial Revolution, there was an increased need for transport. At the
first decades of the twentieth century, the demand for faster movement between cities and the
increasing use of the automobile (from one third of million at the end of the First World War to over
three millions at the end of the World War II) were the main reasons for the construction of different
type motorways around the world. Typical examples are AVUS in Berlin, the oldest controlled access
highway in Europe, in Italy in 1924 between Milan and Varese. Britain created the first motorway in
1958 [2, 3].
The design of motorways is a complicated process, included specific parameters and

Throughout history, there are key inventions such as the telephone and the computer that transcended
the way people communicate and relay information with each other. The invention that started this
wave of faster and faster communication, the telegraph, proved to be revolutionary, paving way to

the United States faced significant transformations culturally and socially with the help of the

The Prevalence Of Homelessness And Homelessness
The Prevalence of Homelessness
In this textual analysis, I m going to discuss the prevalence of homelessness in the United States. I ll
be using three songs from popular culture that focus on homelessness. Different artists perform these
three songs: Avril Lavigne, Bob Dylan, and Nirvana. I m going to address the values that people who
are homeless may have, according to what each artist conveys through their song lyrics. Throughout
the lyrics in each song, it seems like the artists are attempting to communicate to the public that
homelessness is a serious issue that nobody is immune to. The values that I have gathered are bravery,
hope, and perseverance.
I have chosen this topic because over half a million people are homeless, the government has limited
resources to help those who are homeless, and some cities are making homelessness illegal. This topic
is important to me because nobody is immune to homelessness, which is terrifying and unfortunate.
This topic should be important to others because homelessness is a serious problem and it seems like
we tend to treat people who are homeless like they re not human beings.
Some people think that if a person who s homeless wants to truly change their situation, they would
simply get a job. There s clothing assistance available for people who are homeless; having access to a
resource like this can help people who are homeless by providing them with appropriate clothing for
job interviews. Approximately 44% of people who are

The Black Panther Party In The 1960 s
In the 1960 s all around the United States, many African Americans fought for civil and equal rights in
America. The Black Panther Party did this through many different ways such as food banks,
newspapers, free food and clothing. Led by many influential and powerful people, such as Martin L.
King, Bobby Seale , and Huey Newton. Even though the Black Panthers were considered radical
because of their use of force to protect the African American communities, their actions were just
because their goals were to receive equal rights and opportunities as the white community had
obtained.
The Black Panther Party members had many foes but none greater than the white men in the
government. The white men in the government wanted no success or freedom from the black
communities including the Black Panthers. There was racism rooming all around the United States
and the country was being led by the white men who basically could do anything they wanted at any
time.
Around 1966, the Black Panther Party was founded. It was a Black political organization, solely for
Self Defensive purposes. The Black Panther Party originated in Oakland, California. The main
founders were Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. There were six members of the Black Panthers
included Sherman Forte, Elbert Big Man Howard, Little Bobby Hutton, Huey Newton, Bobby Seale,
and Reggie Forte. These six people were the very important in making this party. They adopted the

Transmittance can be expressed as the ratio of the intensity of the transmitted light (It) and the initial
intensity of the light beam (Io), as expressed by the formula: reference 4 T = It /Io Experimental
Methods: Making up the solutions: The potassium iodide solution will be made up by first calculating
the amount (in moles) of KI needed from the equation: concentration = amount/volume as I know the
desired concentration(s) and how large a volume I want to make up. Then I can calculate how exactly
how much solid KI (in grams) is needed for that concentration by using the equation: amount =
mass/Mr given the Mr of KI is 166.0028. Then to actually make up the solution, I will first brush the
balance, place a plastic weighing container on it, and then tare the balance. I will then proceed to
accurately weigh out the required mass of KI with a clean spatula. The hydrogen peroxide solution
will be diluted from 20vol to [X]vol by using 20/[X] the volume of 20vol H2O2 in distilled water.
Methods: Potassium iodide solution: 1. Using the equations; amount = mass/Mr and concentration =
amount/volume, I calculated the correct mass of KI needed to make up the required concentrations of
KI solution (0.05 through to 0.3moldm 3). I used the complete values throughout all the equations,
and then rounded my final volume to an appropriate decimal place relative to the precision of the
scientific balance I will use to make up the solution. 2. Solid KI (mass m) was weighed

Eye-Opening Lessons Learned In Alex Haley s Popular Book
In 1977, the television miniseries Roots first aired on ABC. It was based of Alex Haley s popular book
released in 1976. The story is about Alex Haley s ancestors, tracing all the way to Africa. It starts with
a teenage boy, Kunta Kinte, who was born in Gambia in West Africa. When Kunta is looking for some
wood to make a drum, he gets captured and that is when the long adventure begins. There were three
really eye opening lessons I learned about slavery: the boat ride to American was painful and most did
not survive, slaves were not allowed to read or write, and after the Civil War and slaves were free,
they were still treated badly and still not considered equal. First, coming to America on the slave ship
was an awful ordeal. When Captain Thomas Davies saw the slave ship blueprints, the horrors started
to sink in. The slaves were chained up and squeezed in tight for maximum profit. They were put under
the deck and got sea sick alot. Workers on the ship would also rape the female slaves for pleasure. One
time, Captain Thomas Davies was in his cabin and Mr Slater came in and offered him a female slave
for pleasure. The female slave looked horrified and Captain Thomas Davies refused to take her

Roma And Ethnic Identity
1. Why do some Roma hide their ethnic identities? Some Roma hide their ethnic identities because it
can be dangerous and bad for their business because of the stereotyping that goes along with being a
Roma. Also, depending on the community, they may be threatened, attacked, or discriminated again.
2. What challenges did the Roma face in different parts of the world? The Roma face a variety of
challenges in different parts of the world. When the Roma moved to Western Europe, people took
away their history by twisting what it truly meant to be Roma. They also tried to destroy the Roma
culture. In Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Roma were stoned by the citizens of Halifax simply because of
their ethnicity. The Roma then traveled to Australia, South Africa, Tasmania, Buenos Aires, and back
to England. They traveled because they were not accepted as citizens in any of these countries. When
they returned to England, they found that a lot of the Roma had settled down because they couldn t
take the abuse. When Julia lived in a small village in Scotland her family was the target for racism.
Local people would vandalize their home and kill their dogs. One day, Julia was playing outside with
her sister when a young man threw a brick at her head that spilt her head open. When her sister tried to
help her, they beat her with a pipe. In Spain the Roma were fighting against the fascists. Lolo, who
joined an Anti Fascists movement when he lived in Spain, was tortured for ten days and ten nights.

The Power Of Mass Media In Gillian Flynn s Gone Girl
In modern society, mass media is an unavoidable influence on our daily lives. Humans are reliant on
mass communication and information for everything: work, education, entertainment, and much more.
In her novel Gone Girl, author Gillian Flynn uses the thrilling story of Amy Dunne and her husband,
Nick Dunne, who is accused of her murder to illustrate how much power mass media has over the
general public s judgement and opinions, despite their increasingly common dishonesty. In Gone Girl,
the media runs with stories that have little substance for the sole purpose of grabbing public attention,
they use their power to alter public perception multiple times and push their own agenda, and they
create public personalities for people that do not match who they truly are. Contemporary media
stations are willing to run with any story as long as it will get them views and therefore money, even if
the story has little to no substance. This is seen multiple times in the novel Gone Girl. At an volunteer
search event for his missing wife, Nick Dunne is approached by Shawna Kelly. Shawna, a middle
aged woman, shows up to the search event but clearly is only there to attempt to flirt with Nick.
Shawna goes through a few minutes of small talk, which Nick is visibly not interested in, before
forcing him to take a selfie with her. Nick describes her feelings towards Shawna: I wanted to smack

protagonists recalls the war around him. Gradually from there we melt into a very strange atmosphere
that seems similar to that of a calm before a storm. The two men fish together in a friendly and calm
atmosphere, only to be reminded of the harsh reality going on as they hear cannon fire nearby and the
silence is punctuated with the sounds of the war. It begins setting us back into the dreary atmosphere

According to Berk Meyer (2016) make believe play is an example of the development of
representation in early childhood (p.312). Play detaches from the real life conditions associated with
it: During this observation, when the children were playing in the building area, they knew that the
blocks were an object but that it could represent something else, such as they were building castles
and towers. According to Berk Meyer (2016) by age 3, children can understand that an object may
take on one fictional identity in one pretend game and another fictional identity in a different pretend
game (p.312). Another group of children was playing in the toy cars area, they were pretending that
they were the ones driving the car in a race. This is an example of sociodramatic play. According to
Berk Meyer (2016), a sociodramatic play is the make believe play with others that is under way by the
end of the second year and that increases rapidly in complexity during early childhood (p.312). Yet, I
noticed that during this play time some children struggle more than others, it was hard for some
children to have an understanding of roles in the game due to the fact that they couldn t follow the plot
or where impatient to wait for their turn. This is a skill that children master at the end of preschool
years. Interestingly, despite that many children were playing in groups, there was this one child, a boy

How To Establish A Chaldean Culture
Growing up, Sunday nights were reserved for extended family dinners at my grandparents house.
Loud music, foreign looking food, and unusual dancing were commonplace at these gatherings. My
family is Chaldean a small Catholic minority originating from northern Iraq with ties to ancient
Mesopotamia. The dinners provided me with a gateway, allowing me to bridge my everyday
experience with my ancestral culture. It also helped to establish a rapport between myself and other
Chaldean students at my school. As the hostilities between the U.S. and Iraq escalated and eventually
resulted in the U.S. led invasion in 2003, the small contingent of Chaldeans at my school and I became
marginalized. We were branded by some students as the enemy. While

Review Of Maus s The Rise Of The Graphic
The term contemporary literature applies to anything written after World War II. Like all historical
eras, the era of contemporary literature has formed, and continues to form, the literature that is present
today. The contemporary literary era defines a time period but also describes a particular style and
quality of writing. Much of the literature written in this era is diverse, ironic and reveals political,
social and personal views.
One of the more notable stylistic innovations of contemporary literature is the willingness to include
visual art along with writing. Per Lauter Yarborough, The rise of the graphic narrative in the 1990s
reflects the desire of writers and readers to consider the way literature has changed as Americans ...

During the time of the civil rights disputes, Gwendolyn Brooks felt passionate about the mistreatment
of African Americans and channeled her passion into her poems. One of her poems, A Bronzeville
Mother Loiters in Mississippi. Meanwhile, a Mississippi Mother Burns Bacon dramatized the
aftereffects of the lynching of Emmett Till. Till was a fourteen year old African American youth who
was murdered by Roy Bryant in Mississippi because he had allegedly whistled at Carolyn Bryant, a
white woman. In this narrative poem, Brooks depicts a scene in the Bryant household after the murder
of Till. In mockery of the situation, Brooks characterizes Till as a villain, and Carolyn Bryant as a
maiden who need rescuing from a prince, Roy. Brooks writes: Pursued by the Dark Villain. Rescued
by the Fine Prince. The Happiness Ever After (p. 2878). However, as the poem continues, Carolyn
begins to wonder if it was all worth it, if the punishment fit the crime. Brooks states: Had she been
worth the blood, the cramped cries, the little stuttering bravado, the gradual dulling of those Negro
eyes, the sudden, overwhelming little boyness in that barn? (p. 2880). Now, Carolyn lives in constant
fear that Roy will conclude she was not worth It. She sees her husband as the murderer and fears for
her children. Ensuing the happiness ever after is not as she thought it would be. A major cultural shift

Bill Nichols and the Discourse of Sobriety
Do mockumentary films retain any trace of the discourse of sobriety ? Throughout film history,
documentary and fiction films have denoted the polar opposites of film form with each representing
two distinct and separate traditions, the cinema of reality and the cinema of fiction (Doherty 16).
However what was once a clear distinction has become blurred as the increasing popularity of
mockumentary continues to weaken the assumed boundaries between fact and fiction (Sicinski). Prior
to this blurring of the lines the documentary genre enjoyed a privileged position amongst screen forms
due its the truth claim (Glick). Reflecting Bill Nichols observation that documentary employs the
discourse of sobriety (3), the truth claim is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite multiple documentary conventions being incorporated throughout the film, 24 hour Party
People retains little trace of sobriety as Winterbottom s use of interviews, direct address, archival
footage and narration aims to portray a predominantly fictional world as an actual real world, rather
than depicting the world as it is. Although real archival footage of Joy Division performing at Wilson s
club, as well as actual footage of Wilson s television show Granada Tonight is used throughout the
film, Winterbottom ensures that such footage is subtly interwoven within sequences of fictional events
thus eliminating any trace of sobriety that the use of real footage may have allowed for. Furthermore it
can be argued that 24 hour Party People retains little evidence of Bill Nichols observation that
documentary employs the discourse of sobriety , as a number of incidents are exaggerated throughout
the film. For example, following a scene in which Wilson s wife is shown getting close with musician
Howard Devoto, the cleaner present in the scene faces the camera, reveals himself as the real Howard
Devoto and states that he has no recollection of

Lil Mama Research Paper
Niatia Lil Mama Kirkland has had many roles throughout her career. She s a dancer, an actress, an
entertainer and television personality. But many now only know her as a meme, or a played out joke.
Lil Mama s first single, Lip Gloss came out in 2007 and was the game changer for her becoming
career. Lip Gloss had all of the makings of a one hit wonder a catchy beat, a less catchy dance to
accompany it, and an everyday item, lip gloss, as its focal point. Although, her flow wasn t bad and
her dance moves were on point, people didn t quite know what to do with Lil Mama during her
breakout years. She was a teenage girl demanding to be taken seriously in an industry dominated by
adult men, and seemed to be caught in pop culture limbo, not bubbly enough, but also not quite real
enough for us to really care about. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2009, while still riding her Lip Gloss popularity, Lil Mama attended the MTV Video Music Awards,
as Jay Z and Alicia Keys performed their infamous song Empire State of Mind, where Lil Mama made
a decision that set her career on a downhill path. Beyoncé tried to stop her, but she pushed her way,
uninvited, onto the stage with two of the biggest names in entertainment at the time. It was awkward,
as Jay Z confirmed that it was an unwelcomed attempt to gain attention. It was also the moment that
the public decided that Lil Mama was merely a joke. Too many people Lil Mama s VMA stunt made
her seem as a clueless outsider who was either too cocky or too ill advised to think that she could
share the stage with such huge names in the industry. What makes things worse is this incident just so
happened to correspond with the Internet s shift from tech geeks exclusively to a mainstream social
media commodity and Lil Mama, as the stage crashing third wheel became the visual foundation of
too many jokes; that never

Essay On Sniffy The Virtual Rat
Method
Subjects
A virtual rat, Sniffy, was used for this experiment. Sniffy the Virtual Rat, Pro Version 3.0 allows for
the demonstration of Pavlovian and operant conditioning of a virtual rat. Tom Alloway, Greg Wilson,
and Jeff Graham, authors of Sniffy the Virtual Rat designed this program to be an affordable
alternative for students to gain access to the main phenomena of classical and operant conditioning
that courses on the psychology of learning typically discuss (Jakubow, 2007). The program allows for
simulations for Pavlovian conditioning such as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery, stimulus
intensity effects, compound conditioning, blocking, overshadowing, overexpectation, inhibition,
sensory preconditioning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fourth window is the Helpful Advice window, this window gives you information on Sniffy s state
whether he made an association or not and instructions on what to do.
Procedure
We started this experiment by conducting magazine training with Sniffy. The Magazine training
technique was used in order for Sniffy to make the association between the sound of the food hopper
with food. Every time Sniffy approached the food hopper a food pallet would be delivered through the
pressing of the space bar. We waited until the Sound Food bar association on the Operant Associations
mind window reached 3/4 s of the way. This meant that the association between sound and food was
strong enough to begin helping shape Sniffy s behavior. This file was saved to be used later in the
training of Sniffy to press the bar himself.
Using the previously saved file some adjustments were made before training Sniffy. The session was
adjusted to the Design Operant Conditioning Experiment with the Reinforcement Schedule set to
Continuous. The Recorded Shaping Behavior was set to Press Bar in order to begin training Sniffy to
press the bar. Sniffy was first rewarded only when Sniffy would rear up facing the wall where the bar
and hopper were located. Later Sniffy would be rewarded when he reared closer and

  • 2. Cancer Immunoediting And Its Effect On Cancer Essay Abstract: The last fifteen years have seen a reemergence of interest in cancer immunosurveillance and a broadening of this concept into one termed cancer immunoediting. The latter, supported by strong experimental data derived from murine tumor models and provocative correlative data obtained by studying human cancer, holds that the immune system not only protects the host against development of primary nonviral cancers but also sculpts tumor immunogenicity. Cancer immunoediting is a process consisting of three phases: elimination (i.e., cancer immunosurveillance), equilibrium, and escape. Herein, we summarize the data supporting the existence of each of the three cancer immunoediting phases. The full understanding of the immunobiology of cancer immunosurveillance and immunoediting will hopefully stimulate development of more effective immunotherapeutic approaches to control and/or eliminate human cancers. Summary: Comments made decades ago by the architects of the cancer immunosurveillance hypothesis, Burnet and Thomas, that there is little ground for optimism about cancer (Burnet, 1957) and the greatest trouble with the idea of immunosurveillance is that it cannot be shown to exist in experimental animals (Thomas, 1982), reflect the problems that, until recently, fomented intense debate over whether natural immune defense mechanisms can protect the host against the development of cancers of nonviral origin. The difficulty was clear: if immunosurveillance of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Isolation And Cognition, By Octavia Butler And Philip Jose... Literature is not as one dimensional as many people think. It is not a frivolous study for those who are poor at math and science. No, literature is a conduit that connects an individual to the vast, ever expanding pool of human knowledge. In addition to connecting us to the past and improving our writing skills, literature widens our perspectives allowing us to explore the strengths as well as the faults of human individuals and societies. Some genres of literature are better than others when exploring human nature, and science fiction is one of the best. Darko Suvin, author of an analysis on science fiction titled Estrangement and Cognition, assets that all science fiction introduces a new idea, called a novum, that effectively challenges a reader s worldview. It can educate us about other cultures and increase sympathies for those who we see as different from us simply by giving us exposure to what is foreign. Authors Octavia Butler and Philip JosĂ© Farmer both use cognitive estrangement in this way to suggest and reinforce the idea that humans are too resistant to change, and are inherently xenophobic. It is important to understand how science fiction is used to convey an author s ideas. In a nutshell, Darko Suvin delineates science fiction as a literary genre that utilizes cognitive estrangement in order to build an imaginary, yet believable, world centered around a novum (Suvin 7 8). He further defines estrangement as the creative and fantastic side of the genre. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modern art movements explored new ways of communicating this new modern condition what is was like to live in an environment that was advancing and developing with incrediable speed . Dynamism became a means for the artists of the time to communicate what has been termed the modern condition. Cubism, Orphism and Futurism share a common language, Dynamism. Dynamism is a mechanism for communicating a sense of change or movement.. Artists also invested their own emotions of what they were experiencing through the use of dynamism. Viewers can understand that there was an excitement, anxiety and uncertainty associated with living this bustling, changing society. The movements reflected societies appreciation and interest in freedom of movement in art across Europe prior World War One. People were immensely excited by speed, technology and new forms of transport and communication. They all felt the world around them was begining to quickly change. The artists of the time employed dynamism in their works to express this rapid movement. Cubism responded to the world changing at a revoulutionary speed dynamically communicated through abstract art. Cubists disregarded traditonal ways of portraying a subject, and instead broke down the subject matter into scattered shapes and objects. According to Spain s National Museum of Art, Cubism demonstrated conclusively that the experience of moderity was bound to a dynamic and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Stranger Experience By Dr. John Howard, At The Dinah... For my Stranger Experience, I went to a lecture called Picturing Queer Souths , which was taught by Dr. John Howard, at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. He is a professor at King s College in London, and he is also a University of Alabama alumnus. During this lecture, he discussed the different aspects of LGBT photography and how sexuality can be expressed through that medium, whether there are members of the community physically present in that photographs or not. There was a specific focus on southern photographers that are members of the LGBT community, not only in the American South, but also in relatively southern parts of the world, like South Africa for example. Personally, I identify as a heterosexual woman, so this was actually the first time I ever visited a place that was focused on LGBT life experiences and art. Interestingly enough, although the space was not necessarily queer exclusive, I believe that a majority of the attendees were members of the queer community. This led to several questions after the lecture pertaining to personal experiences from members of the community and how they related to the lecture that was shared. I think that one of the aspects of strangeness I experienced was the fact that I did not feel comfortable asking a question that I had at the end of the lecture. There was nothing necessarily telling me that I could not ask a question, in fact, it was encouraged for the most part. I simply felt like I was in a space that was specifically for queer people and that it was not my place to speak up, since I typically have the privilege of having my voice heard daily. Another aspect that felt strange to me was the overt sexuality of many of the photographs that were shown. I grew up in a very conservative Christian household, where I was taught that sexuality was something that was private and sex itself was reserved for married couples. Many of the photos shown during Dr. Howard s lecture showed partial or complete nudity, or were candid photos of LGBT couples participating in sex acts. This was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. A Brief Note On Sand And Art Play Providing both a sand area and an art area as play centers in a children s hospital playroom is essential for providing a variety of therapeutic, sensory, child directed, and developmentally appropriate play activities. Sand and art play can help children of various ages to express themselves, work on their fine motor skills, unleash their creativity, and just be kids while in the unfamiliar and potentially frightening hospital environment (CITE 1). There is evidence that helps to support the functions and needs for a sand area and an art area in a children s hospital playroom. There is a wide range of modalities in which sand play can be used with children. For example, children are able to make shapes, express themselves, and much more through sand play. Given these various modalities, sand play has many strengths and can be considered a therapeutic medium for play (CITE 4). According to Louise Craig, when children are engaged in sand play they are simultaneously using both hands, which means that children are using both lobes of the brain, which, in turn, benefits the total involvement of the person in their play (CITE 4). Sand play has been argued to be an easy medium to therapeutic play, as it requires no skills or talent and it provides children with control over an environment. There is evidence that both extroverted and introverted children can benefit from the use of sand play. Sand play is considered a sensory play activity. Sensory play activities allow ... Like the meshing of teeth on a system of gears, the four STEM fields are best taught, learned and assessed together (Vasquez, Sneider, Comer, 2013, p. 12). Furthermore, Vasquez (2013) recommends the following five guiding principles to guide the gear mesh alignment of the STEM fields: focus on integration, establish relevance, emphasize 21st Century skills, challenge your students, and mix it up (p. 18 19). However, Vasquez (2013) remains cognizant of the challenging nature of implementing all five principles and urges educators to remember you don t have to do it all (p.21). The subsequent paragraphs are an introspection regarding the degree of implementation and the factors influencing the execution of the aforementioned principles in my current setting. The primary principle expressed by Vasquez is the focus on integration. Vasquez(2013) states, that combining two or more of the disciplines helps students see the relatedness of the concepts tying together seemingly disjointed blocks of information (p.22). The yearly pacing of science instruction shapes integration of the four disciplines. Science instruction occurs primarily during the third and fourth quarter. However, there was an effect of time of day on mood as well as an effect of gender on mood. The results did not support the main hypothesis that different colors would elicit different moods. Thus, this study found no support for the prediction that brighter colors would elicit positive moods, whereas less bright colors would elicit negative moods. These results do not support past research findings that brighter colors tend to elicit positive moods, whereas, dark colors elicit negative moods (Hemphill, 1996; Kaya Epps, 2004). Moreover, this result was not expected given the previously discussed research by Weller and Livingston (1988) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They found that men tended to have higher scores than women on the Self assurance subscale in all ten samples they examined, although this difference was small. Moreover, there does not appear to be a clear reason that in our study men had higher scores than women on the surprise subscale. Furthermore, the finding that men rated their moods higher on several subscales was intriguing, since past research that examined the relationship between colors and emotions suggested that women were emotionally oriented and reported more emotional responses to colors than men (Hemphill, 1996). Furthermore, results did not support the hypothesis that the 1:00 PM class would have more positive moods than the 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM classes; however, results did suggest that mood was affected by the time of day. Nevertheless, only particular times were affected, for instance the 4:00 PM late afternoon class had higher scores for the negative moods than the 8:00 AM class. Also, the 4:00 PM class had higher scores on the shyness subscale than the 1:00 PM midday class. The results that the late afternoon class had more negative mood than the midday appear to go against the current literature given that the research suggests that Negative Affect does not fluctuate throughout the day and is not related to the circadian rhythm (Murray et al., 2002). In contrast, Positive Affect appears to be related to the circadian rhythm, tends to increase throughout the day until about 9pm, when PA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effects of exposure to wildfire smoke on human health are hard to quantify because the long term effects often go unnoticed. One estimate for global premature death rate due to exposure of wildfire smoke is 399,000 persons annually (Johnston et al., 2012). There are a few smaller problems, hidden within this larger main point; to be more specific, three problems. The main paragraphs will discuss the problem and the possible solution. What are the problems, that are in the way of fast, safe, and efficient space travel? They are as follows, Price, Safety, and the engine. The ability to travel through the stars, was always a dream of many children, but now, with the technology that is possessed, what is stopping that dream from becoming a reality? There may be difficult hurdles to go over, but the solutions aren t as far as one might think. With the current limitations of our technology and the overall price of spaceflight, our space program is unable to go as far as we could. The current price is far too high for reasonable space travel, but, how much does a trip to, let s say, Mars, cost? Well, according to The Mars Society: Estimates of the cost of a human Mars exploration program over the years have been wildly disparate, leaving much confusion in their wake. On the high end of the scale was the Space Exploration Initiative proposed by President George H. W. Bush in 1989 at $450 billion; Mars Direct occupies the low end of the scale at roughly $30 billion.(Answer to question number two) Mars One also released their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Qin Shi Huang And The Unification Of China As centuries pass, historians are still able to remember the achievements attained by the first emperor of unified China. Although known as a ruthless ruler, we can acknowledge that the successes he had were lasting and helpful for the future of China. Qin Shi Huang became the first emperor of China at 220 BCE after his uncle passed the throne onto him and founded the Qin Dynasty. During this time period, China was divided into many kingdoms. Qin s main goal in life was to unify China under his rule. In order to do so, he waged war against the other six major kingdoms. By 221 BCE, he was able to unify China under his rule. It was the first time that China became unified. Qin Shi Huang was able to create a large impact on China s history due to the starting the idea of the Great Wall, developing a system of writing, and the unification of China. Qin Shi Huang inherited the throne at the age of thirteen and was named as the Chinese head of state of Qin. At the age of 38, Qin renamed himself the first emperor and called himself Shi Huangdi. When he named himself as Shi Huang Di, he chose it because huangdi would tie himself to the first king since he believed Huang outranked wang . During that time period, wang was known to be king. He used di because it meant he had the divine right to rule, and shi meant he was the first emperor of China. All in all, his name combined means the first emperor of China. He changed his title because he believed that he deserved it since he was able to establish a unified China. Qin Shi Huang did not recognize the past rulers as emperors because the past rulers did not rule a unified state. He was then known as Qin Shi Huang to rulers after him. The country was wealthy and powerful when Qin Shi Huang ruled the kingdom but after Qin died, the dynasty fell apart. Qin Shi Huang had a large impact on China s culture. He helped implement canals and roads for easier travel. He started the imperial road system and created fast roads. He was extremely influential in China s government. The Construction Of The Roman Empire Motorways Thousands of years ago, the invention of the wheel gave the people the opportunity to complete their work easier, moving around the areas faster. The construction of the Roman Empire roads allowed people to reach the Roman dominion around Europe. Their first effort to create a road system was between 43AD and 400AD, when they conquered Britain in order to have better access to main financial centres. By creating road network, they tried to expand the potential market throughout the empire. The whole network was 3,000 kilometres in length, covered most of England, Wales and Southern Scotland [1]. After the departure of Romans from Britain and the fall of the Roman Empire, little effort was made for the improvement of the network system in Europe. Only at the first decades of the 18th century, due to the Industrial Revolution, there was an increased need for transport. At the first decades of the twentieth century, the demand for faster movement between cities and the increasing use of the automobile (from one third of million at the end of the First World War to over three millions at the end of the World War II) were the main reasons for the construction of different type motorways around the world. Typical examples are AVUS in Berlin, the oldest controlled access highway in Europe, in Italy in 1924 between Milan and Varese. Britain created the first motorway in 1958 [2, 3]. I ll be using three songs from popular culture that focus on homelessness. Different artists perform these three songs: Avril Lavigne, Bob Dylan, and Nirvana. I m going to address the values that people who are homeless may have, according to what each artist conveys through their song lyrics. Throughout the lyrics in each song, it seems like the artists are attempting to communicate to the public that homelessness is a serious issue that nobody is immune to. The values that I have gathered are bravery, hope, and perseverance. I have chosen this topic because over half a million people are homeless, the government has limited resources to help those who are homeless, and some cities are making homelessness illegal. This topic is important to me because nobody is immune to homelessness, which is terrifying and unfortunate. According to Berk Meyer (2016) by age 3, children can understand that an object may take on one fictional identity in one pretend game and another fictional identity in a different pretend game (p.312). Another group of children was playing in the toy cars area, they were pretending that they were the ones driving the car in a race. This is an example of sociodramatic play. According to Berk Meyer (2016), a sociodramatic play is the make believe play with others that is under way by the end of the second year and that increases rapidly in complexity during early childhood (p.312). Yet, I noticed that during this play time some children struggle more than others, it was hard for some children to have an understanding of roles in the game due to the fact that they couldn t follow the plot or where impatient to wait for their turn. This is a skill that children master at the end of preschool years. Interestingly, despite that many children were playing in groups, there was this one child, a boy with dark hair ... • 41. How To Establish A Chaldean Culture Growing up, Sunday nights were reserved for extended family dinners at my grandparents house. Loud music, foreign looking food, and unusual dancing were commonplace at these gatherings. My family is Chaldean a small Catholic minority originating from northern Iraq with ties to ancient Mesopotamia. The dinners provided me with a gateway, allowing me to bridge my everyday experience with my ancestral culture. It also helped to establish a rapport between myself and other Chaldean students at my school. As the hostilities between the U.S. and Iraq escalated and eventually resulted in the U.S. led invasion in 2003, the small contingent of Chaldeans at my school and I became marginalized. We were branded by some students as the enemy. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Review Of Maus s The Rise Of The Graphic The term contemporary literature applies to anything written after World War II. Like all historical eras, the era of contemporary literature has formed, and continues to form, the literature that is present today. The contemporary literary era defines a time period but also describes a particular style and quality of writing. Much of the literature written in this era is diverse, ironic and reveals political, social and personal views. One of the more notable stylistic innovations of contemporary literature is the willingness to include visual art along with writing. Per Lauter Yarborough, The rise of the graphic narrative in the 1990s reflects the desire of writers and readers to consider the way literature has changed as Americans ... During the time of the civil rights disputes, Gwendolyn Brooks felt passionate about the mistreatment of African Americans and channeled her passion into her poems. One of her poems, A Bronzeville Mother Loiters in Mississippi. Meanwhile, a Mississippi Mother Burns Bacon dramatized the aftereffects of the lynching of Emmett Till. Till was a fourteen year old African American youth who was murdered by Roy Bryant in Mississippi because he had allegedly whistled at Carolyn Bryant, a white woman. In this narrative poem, Brooks depicts a scene in the Bryant household after the murder of Till. In mockery of the situation, Brooks characterizes Till as a villain, and Carolyn Bryant as a maiden who need rescuing from a prince, Roy. Brooks writes: Pursued by the Dark Villain. Rescued by the Fine Prince. The Happiness Ever After (p. 2878). However, as the poem continues, Carolyn begins to wonder if it was all worth it, if the punishment fit the crime. Brooks states: Had she been worth the blood, the cramped cries, the little stuttering bravado, the gradual dulling of those Negro eyes, the sudden, overwhelming little boyness in that barn? (p. 2880). Now, Carolyn lives in constant fear that Roy will conclude she was not worth It. She sees her husband as the murderer and fears for her children. Ensuing the happiness ever after is not as she thought it would be. A major cultural shift that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Bill Nichols and the Discourse of Sobriety Do mockumentary films retain any trace of the discourse of sobriety ? Throughout film history, documentary and fiction films have denoted the polar opposites of film form with each representing two distinct and separate traditions, the cinema of reality and the cinema of fiction (Doherty 16). However what was once a clear distinction has become blurred as the increasing popularity of mockumentary continues to weaken the assumed boundaries between fact and fiction (Sicinski). Prior to this blurring of the lines the documentary genre enjoyed a privileged position amongst screen forms due its the truth claim (Glick). Reflecting Bill Nichols observation that documentary employs the discourse of sobriety (3), the truth claim is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite multiple documentary conventions being incorporated throughout the film, 24 hour Party People retains little trace of sobriety as Winterbottom s use of interviews, direct address, archival footage and narration aims to portray a predominantly fictional world as an actual real world, rather than depicting the world as it is. Although real archival footage of Joy Division performing at Wilson s club, as well as actual footage of Wilson s television show Granada Tonight is used throughout the film, Winterbottom ensures that such footage is subtly interwoven within sequences of fictional events thus eliminating any trace of sobriety that the use of real footage may have allowed for. Furthermore it can be argued that 24 hour Party People retains little evidence of Bill Nichols observation that documentary employs the discourse of sobriety , as a number of incidents are exaggerated throughout the film. For example, following a scene in which Wilson s wife is shown getting close with musician Howard Devoto, the cleaner present in the scene faces the camera, reveals himself as the real Howard Devoto and states that he has no recollection of ... • 44. Lil Mama Research Paper Niatia Lil Mama Kirkland has had many roles throughout her career. She s a dancer, an actress, an entertainer and television personality. But many now only know her as a meme, or a played out joke. Lil Mama s first single, Lip Gloss came out in 2007 and was the game changer for her becoming career. Lip Gloss had all of the makings of a one hit wonder a catchy beat, a less catchy dance to accompany it, and an everyday item, lip gloss, as its focal point. Although, her flow wasn t bad and her dance moves were on point, people didn t quite know what to do with Lil Mama during her breakout years. She was a teenage girl demanding to be taken seriously in an industry dominated by adult men, and seemed to be caught in pop culture limbo, not bubbly enough, but also not quite real enough for us to really care about. ... In 2009, while still riding her Lip Gloss popularity, Lil Mama attended the MTV Video Music Awards, as Jay Z and Alicia Keys performed their infamous song Empire State of Mind, where Lil Mama made a decision that set her career on a downhill path. BeyoncĂ© tried to stop her, but she pushed her way, uninvited, onto the stage with two of the biggest names in entertainment at the time. It was awkward, as Jay Z confirmed that it was an unwelcomed attempt to gain attention. It was also the moment that the public decided that Lil Mama was merely a joke. Too many people Lil Mama s VMA stunt made her seem as a clueless outsider who was either too cocky or too ill advised to think that she could share the stage with such huge names in the industry. What makes things worse is this incident just so happened to correspond with the Internet s shift from tech geeks exclusively to a mainstream social media commodity and Lil Mama, as the stage crashing third wheel became the visual foundation of too many jokes; that never ... Sniffy the Virtual Rat, Pro Version 3.0 allows for the demonstration of Pavlovian and operant conditioning of a virtual rat. Tom Alloway, Greg Wilson, and Jeff Graham, authors of Sniffy the Virtual Rat designed this program to be an affordable alternative for students to gain access to the main phenomena of classical and operant conditioning that courses on the psychology of learning typically discuss (Jakubow, 2007). The program allows for simulations for Pavlovian conditioning such as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery, stimulus intensity effects, compound conditioning, blocking, overshadowing, overexpectation, inhibition, sensory preconditioning, ... The fourth window is the Helpful Advice window, this window gives you information on Sniffy s state whether he made an association or not and instructions on what to do. Procedure We started this experiment by conducting magazine training with Sniffy. The Magazine training technique was used in order for Sniffy to make the association between the sound of the food hopper with food. Every time Sniffy approached the food hopper a food pallet would be delivered through the pressing of the space bar. We waited until the Sound Food bar association on the Operant Associations mind window reached 3/4 s of the way. This meant that the association between sound and food was strong enough to begin helping shape Sniffy s behavior. This file was saved to be used later in the training of Sniffy to press the bar himself. Using the previously saved file some adjustments were made before training Sniffy. The session was adjusted to the Design Operant Conditioning Experiment with the Reinforcement Schedule set to Continuous. The Recorded Shaping Behavior was set to Press Bar in order to begin training Sniffy to press the bar. Sniffy was first rewarded only when Sniffy would rear up facing the wall where the bar and hopper were located. Later Sniffy would be rewarded when he reared closer and ...
