Working Title:
Crystal guardian
Audience:
My target audience is both genders, aged teenage to young adults (15-24). My video game would
appeal to this audience as from teenage to young adult usually want a way to let of stress and
have fun in their free time. I will aim my video game at working class to middle class. This is
because my video game is most likely to appeal to these social classes; as these classes are more
likely to have some free time and play videogames as a hobby when they are not working. People
with lifestyles/ psychographics of emulators/ want to be, needs driven are who I’m aiming my video
game towards as they want to be seen as successful (clearing levels and bragging) and buy
impulsively with out a care of a preferred brand.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout the year I have gained knowledge and diverse skills through different projects I have
completed while on my course. Some skills I have acquired are confident use in adobe software’s
like: Photoshop, premierepro, audition and a few others. These skills I have gained will have a
good impact on my videogame project such as the production and theory (planning, research, pre
production and evaluating). I will use my skills in Photoshop to create my main characters with
different positions for movements, along with the enemies’ characters, the backgrounds and the
final animation. Then I will se my knowledge of premierepro to add sound effects and music to my
animation.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my video game project is a platformer game with a story line where the main
character needs to complete a quest given from an mpc to restore the world, which can be from
killing enemies to completing puzzles. This will keep audiences interested, as there is a lot to do.
The main goal is to try and collect the coloured crystals from the unnatural specific coloured areas
and in the end once all are collected, to place them in a pattern in a set location at the end of the
game. This will restore natural colour to the game. I want the crystals to appear on a pedestal
where they can only be obtained through completing the set task. This is a good game for both
genders as usually gender specific games have set colours for girls(pink) and boys (blue) and my
game has an open colour pallet.
I will need to research different platformer games (clips/trailers and screenshots). This is see how
they created the game along with different the terrains and colour pallets used. This will help me
when creating my game because I can visualise what atmosphere I want my character to be in. as
well as what type of colours I should use and how light or dark I should make them/ the tint/tone.
This is because I want to create colour specific levels. I will also need to research the audience
profile to make sure I make a game that my target audience would want to play.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I will evaluate my work progress in an on going weekly evaluation with my development diaries on
my blogger. Then when I evaluate my finished work. I plan to use not just my own opinion to point
out what could have improved or talk about what went well, I would also get the opinion of my
target audience. This helps me also learn from their perspective of someone who might/might not
want to play the game that’s marketed towards them. For example, did they stay engaged? Was it
boring? How could it be improved? Etc.This will help developing my future work as with the other
projects I can clearly know how to set up everything for my FMP (final media project) to get the
best final grade I can.
