Working Title:
The Mountain’s Edge Hotel
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
16-22 year old because these are the age tat people are most interested in horror., Female & male
as the females will enjoy the main protagonist being a female, and the males will enjoy the horror
aspect of the game. D3 as they’re the most likely to buy such a game. Needs Drive since they’re
the type of people who would spend their money on games. I think that this game will also appeal
to the LGBT community as the main character will be gay. This will bring more attention to the
game, and appeal to a larger audience.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
I’ve done a lot of pixel art, both for my previous projects and to practice so I feel like my skills will
be well used here. I’ve also made a few animations- each one better than the last, and I’m hoping
this skill will continue to progress to make a well functioning game. I’ll use my skills to design well
made backgrounds and characters to make the game look and feel like something truly scary, and
I’ll use the animating skills so that It runs like an actual game. My advergame last year was a
simplistic tower game, and ‘m hoping to improve on that by making something with more depth.
Review your progress throughout the year- what video game and Photoshop skills and knowledge
have you acquired? How will you use those skills?
What was your advergame and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept is a puzzle horror game. It takes place in a run down hotel in the middle of nowhere.
The main character begins in the main room; seeing that her girlfriend has been taken hostage
and she can’t get to her. She must solve five puzzles going from room to room. The first room will
be easy, the 2nd will have a creature, the 3rd room will be more difficult, the 4th room will have
another creature and the 5th room will be the most difficult. After all 5 puzzles the main doors will
open and the main character can leave.
I will research some horror games to see how to best set an atmosphere, what colours and
techniques to use- from sounding to lighting. I will also research some puzzle games to see how
to properly create puzzles that are both easy and difficult to solve. This will help because I will
know how to properly style my game to make it seem more creepy, and I’ll know how to create
puzzles that will interest players and make them think.it will also help with colour designs so I know
which work best for the style I’m thinking of.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I will evaluate my work all throughout the process so that I am happy with how it looks, and I will
also evaluate my work after it is completed, making sure to be critical and as unbiased as I can. I
shall also ask others to review my work to get other peoples opinions most likely in the specific
audience range as they will act as testers for what the larger audience would think.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production
Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
