Jack Morton has initial ideas for a 2D platformer video game where the player must collect speed boosts to outrun a chasing monster. He is considering including a boss battle between a monster and human, and displaying the health of characters. He acknowledges video game design may be frustrating but thinks he can create detailed characters and backgrounds.
2. Initial Reaction
My initial reaction is thinking what type of genre and location
the video game character is going to be set in. I was thinking
of making a 2D platformer that would consist of a monster
chasing the player. You then would have to collect speed
boosts to out run the monster from damaging you. I'm good
at designing characters for the Video game and could possibly
make a very well detailed background for the video game. My
opinions of making a video game is that, I think its going to
bothersome and very frustrating as you have to take a
screenshot then move the image and repeat over again.
Another idea I might make is a boss battle between a monster
and a human. I will also display the health of the monster in
the bottom middle of the screen, I then will display the
humans health in the top left.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood con what it represents denotation what it is
In my mood board there are repeated colours such as the colour black, This tells me its bland, dull and
doesn't’t really stand out to the audience. Another colour that is repeated is the colour red. The colour
red is seen in multiple images that I have collected, this suggests to me that they are trying to grab the
attention of the audience. The image style is retro as the images I have collected are repeated in my
mood board. This suggests to me that the games are old games. The same type of font is repeated in my
mood board. This tells me they are trying to give of a sci-fi feel to the game. The tone that is repeated in
my mood board suggests to me that they feel empty or unfinished. There is a repeated mood
throughout my mood board and that is dullness. It feels that the games missing something. The
connotation of my mood board is emptiness as I can only see darkness in the images that I have
gathered. The denotation of my mood board is that its mainly dark and also a bit of red in the images.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
My mood board will influence my final product by giving ideas on what colour scheme I will be going for
to grab the attention of the audience. It will also influence the style of the product I'm going to make
e.g. a retro style. My mood board will also influence the tone of my final product by letting me know
how to make a colourful video game. My mood board will also influence my final product by giving
information and planning on what sort of mood I will be wanting to target at my audience.
7. Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Case Study, Initial
Response, Product
Research
The tasks I will be doing for the first week is
finding an idea that I will be using for
my final product. I will also research
other existing products that I will take
ideas from and develop my final
product.
2 Audience Research,
Production Experiments,
Proposal, Planning
In the second week I will be finding out
my target audience and how to grab
their attention to my 2D video game. I
then will be making an experiment of
what the 2D video game is going to
look like and also give me a feel of what
designs I could use. I then will start

production of my final product.
4 Production In the fourth week I will be editing in
my own sound effects to my final
product.
5 Evaluation In the fifth week I will evaluate the
product that I have made and discuss
the ways I could improve it.
