Audience:
My audience will consist mainly of males between the ages of 15-24. The reason behind this is
because the game may not be suitable for ages below, but may be uninteresting for ages above
this range. The genre of the game will appeal mainly to a demographic such as this. It primarily
appeals to males as the market for these sorts of games has been engineered to entice a more
male audience. The age range of 15-24 is most suitable as targets the ages as which this genre is
most appealing, too old and the game may become too childish.
The psychographic category most likely to respond to a game of this sort would be the ‘Belonger’
as they primarily respond to messages of community. Video games create a large community and
so this will be the group most likely to respond to my sort of game. They also are brand loyal and
therefore the most likely to purchase sequels or games made by the same developers. My game
will most appeal to this group.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
The progress I have made throughout the year will greatly help the production of my game. The
knowledge I gained from the magazine project will help me enormously I as I am now more adept
than I was with the software. This experience should enable me to achieve a greater standard of
production. I will be able to apply those skills, such as a greater knowledge of the layering system,
or masking. These will be of use in the production stage as they will both increase the standard
and increase the efficiency. The advergame will also greatly shape the way in which this product
will turn out. The experience that I gained has also made me aware of the mistakes I need to
avoid.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of the video game will be a shooter played from the third person perspective. The
game’s camera will be located to the side, as it would be in a platform game. This will enable the
player to have a good overall view. The game will involve the movement between different levels,
but will not be primarily a platform game.
I will construct this in a different way to which I made my advergame. For a start the character will
be stationery, with the foreground and enemies moving independently. The background will slide
to create the illusion of movement from the character. This will make animation so much simpler.
The sound effects will have more time spent on them so that they are more appropriate for the
game.
I will need to research I number of things, such as the way in which a normal shooter is played. If I
have to replicate the game being played I must first know how characters will move in order to
eliminate enemies, and how they must react. I must also conduct research regarding the sound
design of games and the changes made for each level or situation. I must also note the use of
music and where it is used.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan to evaluate my product as I work through the project, constantly comparing it to the designs
and preproduction. This will help me to keep within the boundaries that I have set and also to stop
the game from slipping into a different genre or product. I will also conduct a series of reflections
once the product is complete. This will be scrutinised by myself, as I will analyse the work and the
outcomes.
This will aid my final project as I will become aware of the things I constantly fail to do, or fail to do
to an acceptable standard. Each evaluation has helped the following project during this course.
