Question 1
1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. • I chose not to challenge the codes and conventions of my music
magazine as I wanted it to look like a typical pop/rock magazine.
• Throughout the presentation I will be analysing my front cover,
contents and double page spread.
3. Front Cover
• An example of my front cover following codes and conventions is that
the masthead has its own unique font that is recognisable, along with
the main cover line.
• Another example is having the person in the main image looking
directly into the camera and being in level with it as this is how the
audience create a relationship with the magazine.
• I have also included cover lines around the image but that don’t go
over the image as this will distract the audience and make it harder to
see the image and read the cover lines.
4. Contents
• My contents includes the title being the largest font on the page so
that this is where the person looks first and so they know what page
they are looking at.
• It also has images on that link to some of the headlines so that some
people have some idea of what to expect on different pages.
• It also includes the headlines being placed in columns so that when
reading it is clearly set out and the features and regulars are written
separately.
5. Double Page Spread
• My double page spread includes having an image on one A4 size of a
page as this will create an illusion to the audience that there isn’t too
much to read and also to attract them as an image is more appealing
than text.
• I also included the headline as being the largest text on the page as
this also attracts the audience due to it being bold and against a
coloured background.
• My double page spread also has a quote from the band inserted into
the middle of the page, which makes it more appealing as there is
large text in a small space.
