3. Masthead- The font used is a serif font, it’s quite sophisticated and will appeal to
more a mature audience. Rolling Stone is the main influence on my magazine
Cover Line- Often the cover star is the selling point of the magazines so placing
the artists name in a big, bright bold font draws the buyer in. They’re typically
arrogant artists so having their name as the cover line sells that behaviour to my
target audience.
4. Pose- They’re posture is very upright and gives off the confident vibe. This is what
people like to see in their indie stars and is a common trait for people like Alex Turner.
The pose makes them look arrogant which people who are into this genre find
appealing and relates to my target audience.
Barcode- I postioned the barcode in a similar place.
5. Categories- Splitting the contents of the magazine up into categories so
it’s easier for the reader to access the content.
Multiple Images- The page features multiple images with page numbers
to act as a visual aid for the reader. They can find specific content just by
looking at an image.
6. Pull Quote- Having a pull quote grabs the readers attention, giving them just
a snippit of what to expect, making them want to read n.
Image size- The image takes up one full side of the double page spread, this
shows that it is important and is the main focus of the article.
8. Header- Placing text above the masthead, in my case I chose to advertise a
give away rather than more news/articles. The reader may be drawn in by the
idea of gaining something.
Separation of side articles- I have took that a step further and rather than just
using one, I have used multiple. I believe this gives the magazine a more
professional look.
9. Alternate Colour- Both pages feature sections in an alternate colour from
the colour scheme. This is to get the information to stand out, showing it
is important. In my case I have advertised a digital version of the
magazine.
11. Free poster- It’s not often you get something like this in an indie magazine as
they seem a lot more mature but from speaking to some of my target audience
I found out that a lot of people would find this appealing.
Sticker- I chose to not use a sticker as I did not think it suited the more mature
theme of my magazine.
12. Text Position- Having text over the image to let the reader know what
this image is related to. Again it gives the reader a greater idea of the
content in my magazine
13. Headline position- My headline is place across the image of my models unlike
the majority of DPS’. This created more room for content and I believe it didn’t
undermine the image in anyway.
