This audience varies over my
target audience, I tried to
create a stratified sample and
do this.
The people I questioned gave
a variety of good answers and
this will be very beneficial for
me.
Rural or Urban?

Urban Rural
I am trying to target rural areas. From
my interview with David and Jane I
have decided that I should include
many rural areas - for example, focus
on Cossington, Woodhouse Eves and
Swithland.

Socialising
In my magazine, I will definitely
include leisure events that link
with socialising, I also need to
make sure I include some family
events as well. I will not include
articles on shopping though. Bear
in mind that this is different to an
article on a shop opening

This question shows that there
are people who read
magazines weekly but there is
a potential market for those
who read them monthly and
encourage those who read
them rarely.

This is a good result as my
magazine will be a small
community magazine and so
there will be more people
interested in it than citywide
magazines.
How often do you use
social media?
This answer will give me a good
idea on whether the use of
social media would be popular
with my audience and ultimately
if the use of it will help my
production succeed in reality.

These are all conventions of a
magazine so I shall be including
them all anyway, but it is good to
see that all the conventions affect
the audience. This is because
different aspects will appeal to
different people and with a similar
range of numbers, my magazine
will definitely attract a variety of
people

Radio Advert
Questionnaire Analysis
Times that people
listen
This shows that the two most
popular times for radio listeners in
my target market is in the morning
and in the evening. This means
that my radio advert must be
featured during these times in
order to get the right audience to
listen.
How long do you
listen for?
So, during the morning and the
evening, on average a person
listens for 45 minutes a day. I
need to carefully decide when I
feature my advert as I only have
a limited time as to when my
target audience listen.

Which radio stations
do you listen to?
It is good to see that the most
listened to station are the BBC
stations. However, the BBC
stations do not have any
advertising on them. I am going to
be looking at advertising on Gem
106 and Heart.
Do you use radio
player apps?
When looking at this answer I
can depict whether exploring
more media platforms and
advertising on apps dedicated to
radio, would be beneficial for my
production. Looking at the
answers, it would be beneficial

It is unfortunate that more people
dislike radio adverts than like
them, however the majority of
people say that they dont mind
them. This means that they won’t
be put off by the advert for my
magazine and will listen to it.

This result is very promising,
magazine adverts are joint with
attractions and restaurants. With
magazines being one of the most
popular over businesses and
supermarkets, it means that
when the advert comes on the
radio, many will listen to it.

The house colours I am going to
use are black and white to create
sophistication within the
magazine. Also, the use of
landscape imagery will naturally
create the green and blue house
style.
Which image would be
most effective?
This result shows that my
audience will most likely appeal
to a location shot the most. An
object of significance comes
second. In my planning, I may
look to include both of these - a
windmill in the countryside -
picturesque location and focus
point.

Where would you like
to see the poster?
This question allows me to decide
where the best place would be to
put a magazine advertisement.
From this, I will be able to analyse
where the best places are to grab
the audiences attention.
Social media
association?
Using social media will be vital in
the process of marketing my
regional magazine, it will attract
digital natives and create links

Do you pay attention to
billboard posters?
Not many people do pay attention
to posters, but it will still help the
magazine as there are a few
people who do. I would also look
to other ways of advertising, but I
am creating one of these as an
ancillary task.
Would you be more
inclined to buy something
if you say it on a billboard?
Again, knowing this means that
the billboard posters will build up
sales of the magazine in reality.

What ambient sounds
should be used in the radio
advert?
I will be looking into using birds
chirping and instrumental score
and a river running. The most
popular answer for the instrument
is a piano. I will be incorporating
this into my production because of
the tranquillity of slow playing.

the radio advert?

I chose a variety women who are very
articulate and could be possible
speaker. Mrs Worthington and Mrs
Leite are the most popular which is
most likely down to their affluent
accents. I have decided that I am going
to ask Mrs Leite to be the speaker as
she is easier to communicate with.

Out walking with…
Out for a meal
Cooking
The most popular answer is out
walking with her dog. This would be a
perfect idea for the narrative as most
people with dogs can relate to the
relaxing with a magazine after
walking the dog. I will be using this as
gardening may condense the amount
of people interested in the magazine
if they think its only about gardening.
Should the ambient sound
stop at any point?
The ambient sound will help create
sophistication within the advert. The
only thing is I need to decide for how
long or at what volume I should play it.
The majority vote is between a
constant sound or a change in volume
when the speaker talks. I will be
looking into both of these when in
production.

Old John

I really like the idea of a village sign
and images of the countryside. I can
incorporate both of these by having
an image of the forest footpath with
the village sign in front of it. I could
then use icons of Leicester on the
village sign allowing me more
opportunity to put images in.
Should there be an image of
the magazine’s front page
on the billboard poster?
I think this is definitely something that I
need to include in order to give me a
bigger brand identity and to initially
show the audience what they are
looking for

The focal image cannot be too far away
because then the audience wont be able
to see it very well, the same applies with
overpowering with a close up. I think a
medium shot would be best as it wont
take up the whole of the billboard poster
and it wont be overpowering for other
information.

Questionnaire Analysis

  • 1. Questionnaire Analysis Regional Magazine, Radio Advertisement and Billboard Poster
  • 3. How old are you? 10 8 6 4 2 0 30 - 40 40 - 50 50 - 60 60 + This audience varies over my target audience, I tried to create a stratified sample and do this. The people I questioned gave a variety of good answers and this will be very beneficial for me. Rural or Urban? 10 8 6 4 2 0 Urban Rural I am trying to target rural areas. From my interview with David and Jane I have decided that I should include many rural areas - for example, focus on Cossington, Woodhouse Eves and Swithland.
  • 4. Leisure Activities 13 % 13 % 20 7% % 47 % Shopping Gardening Cooking Walking Socialising In my magazine, I will definitely include leisure events that link with socialising, I also need to make sure I include some family events as well. I will not include articles on shopping though. Bear in mind that this is different to an article on a shop opening How often do you read magazines? 7.5 6 4.5 3 1.5 0 Weekly Monthly Rarely Never This question shows that there are people who read magazines weekly but there is a potential market for those who read them monthly and encourage those who read them rarely.
  • 5. Citywide or Small community 12.5 10 7.5 5 2.5 This is a good result as my magazine will be a small community magazine and so there will be more people interested in it than citywide magazines. How often do you use social media? This answer will give me a good idea on whether the use of social media would be popular with my audience and ultimately if the use of it will help my production succeed in reality. 0 Citywide Small Community 14 %0% 43 % 43 % Less than once a month -1 Few time a month - 0 once a week - 0 once a day - 3 more than once a day - 3
  • 6. Popular Appealing Aspects 0 1.5 3 4.5 6 7.5 These are all conventions of a magazine so I shall be including them all anyway, but it is good to see that all the conventions affect the audience. This is because different aspects will appeal to different people and with a similar range of numbers, my magazine will definitely attract a variety of people Coverlines Masthead Main Image House Style
  • 8. Times that people listen This shows that the two most popular times for radio listeners in my target market is in the morning and in the evening. This means that my radio advert must be featured during these times in order to get the right audience to listen. How long do you listen for? So, during the morning and the evening, on average a person listens for 45 minutes a day. I need to carefully decide when I feature my advert as I only have a limited time as to when my target audience listen. 0 2.25 4.5 6.75 9 11.25 Morning Commute Time At Work At Breakfast Breaks at Work Exercising Evening Before Bed 7.5 6 4.5 3 1.5 0 < 30 mins 1 1/2 - 3 hours 3 - 5
  • 9. Which radio stations do you listen to? It is good to see that the most listened to station are the BBC stations. However, the BBC stations do not have any advertising on them. I am going to be looking at advertising on Gem 106 and Heart. Do you use radio player apps? When looking at this answer I can depict whether exploring more media platforms and advertising on apps dedicated to radio, would be beneficial for my production. Looking at the answers, it would be beneficial 7.5 6 4.5 3 1.5 0 Yes No 7.5 5 2.5 0 BBC Absolute Radio Capital Heart
  • 10. What do you think of Radio adverts? 36 % It is unfortunate that more people dislike radio adverts than like them, however the majority of people say that they dont mind them. This means that they won’t be put off by the advert for my magazine and will listen to it. Geographical advert preferences 29 % This result is very promising, magazine adverts are joint with attractions and restaurants. With magazines being one of the most popular over businesses and supermarkets, it means that when the advert comes on the radio, many will listen to it. 55 % 9% Don’t Mind them Hate them Like them 14 % 29 % 0% 29 % 0% Attractions - 4 Businesses - 0 Events - 2 Magazines - 4 Supermarket - 0 Restaurant - 4
  • 12. Colours 26 % 9% Green Purple The house colours I am going to use are black and white to create sophistication within the magazine. Also, the use of landscape imagery will naturally create the green and blue house style. Which image would be most effective? This result shows that my audience will most likely appeal to a location shot the most. An object of significance comes second. In my planning, I may look to include both of these - a windmill in the countryside - picturesque location and focus point. 9%13 % 04%% 4% 26 % 9% Black White Red Pink Orange Blue 0 1.25 2.5 3.75 5 6.25 Location MCU Person Object Restaurant Shop
  • 13. Where would you like to see the poster? This question allows me to decide where the best place would be to put a magazine advertisement. From this, I will be able to analyse where the best places are to grab the audiences attention. Social media association? Using social media will be vital in the process of marketing my regional magazine, it will attract digital natives and create links within communities 0 1.5 3 4.5 6 7.5 Local parks Bus stations Signs 88 % 13 % Yes No
  • 14. Do you pay attention to billboard posters? Not many people do pay attention to posters, but it will still help the magazine as there are a few people who do. I would also look to other ways of advertising, but I am creating one of these as an ancillary task. Would you be more inclined to buy something if you say it on a billboard? Again, knowing this means that the billboard posters will build up sales of the magazine in reality. Yes No 67 % 33 % 5 4 3 2 1 0 Yes No Maybe
  • 16. What ambient sounds should be used in the radio advert? I will be looking into using birds chirping and instrumental score and a river running. The most popular answer for the instrument is a piano. I will be incorporating this into my production because of the tranquillity of slow playing. Who would you prefer to be the person talking in the radio advert? 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 I chose a variety women who are very articulate and could be possible speaker. Mrs Worthington and Mrs Leite are the most popular which is most likely down to their affluent accents. I have decided that I am going to ask Mrs Leite to be the speaker as she is easier to communicate with. Respondants' answers Birds Chirping Rivers Running Wind Instrumental Score No sound 0 Answers
  • 17. At a local social… A Seeing friends Out walking with… Out for a meal Cooking The most popular answer is out walking with her dog. This would be a perfect idea for the narrative as most people with dogs can relate to the relaxing with a magazine after walking the dog. I will be using this as gardening may condense the amount of people interested in the magazine if they think its only about gardening. Should the ambient sound stop at any point? The ambient sound will help create sophistication within the advert. The only thing is I need to decide for how long or at what volume I should play it. The majority vote is between a constant sound or a change in volume when the speaker talks. I will be looking into both of these when in production. 0 2 4 6 Gardening B C D Yes – when the speaker starts talking Yes – in the middle No – it should be constant No – It should get quieter whe n the speaker talks
  • 18. Icons of Leicester Village sign Countryside… forest footpath Leicester town Old John Flowers I really like the idea of a village sign and images of the countryside. I can incorporate both of these by having an image of the forest footpath with the village sign in front of it. I could then use icons of Leicester on the village sign allowing me more opportunity to put images in. Should there be an image of the magazine’s front page on the billboard poster? I think this is definitely something that I need to include in order to give me a bigger brand identity and to initially show the audience what they are looking for 0 2 4 6 A woman reading YES NO
  • 19. 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 The focal image cannot be too far away because then the audience wont be able to see it very well, the same applies with overpowering with a close up. I think a medium shot would be best as it wont take up the whole of the billboard poster and it wont be overpowering for other information. 0 long shot close up medium close up medium shot medium long shot
