The respondent created a radio advert, billboard, and newspaper and received feedback through a questionnaire. Most respondents felt the products worked well together and found the billboard message quick to understand. However, half did not find the radio jingle catchy. While pictures were seen as appropriate, some criticisms of the projects were contradictory. The majority felt the newspaper had a good balance of text and images, though its structure was viewed more critically. Overall, the feedback helped the respondent learn what marketing elements were successful or needed improvement.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
2. Uploading final pieces to
Facebook
Here I posted my radio
advert, billboard and my
newspaper front and
inside cover.
Once I had done this I
made a questionnaire
shown in the next two
slides that I asked my
audience to answer in
order to find out whether
my products were
successful.
3. Questionnaire Part 1
Based on The Radio Advert, Billboard and Newspaper I have
created please answer the following questions:
1) Do you think the products work well together?
2) In the billboard do you find the direct message quick and
easy to understand? Yes or No
3) Do you like the house style (colours) in the newspaper or
would you have liked to see something else if so state what?
4) Do you find the jingle catchy in the radio advert? Yes or No
5) Could you tell that the billboard and radio advert all relate to
the newspaper?
4. Questionnaire Part 2
6) Do you think the pictures are appropriate for a local
newspaper?
7) In your opinion what should I have done differently in my
projects name one thing?
8) Does the newspaper have a good structure like other real
media products?
9) Do you think the products have a good balance of text and
image?
10) Which out of the newspaper, billboard and radio advert did
you like best and why?
5. Feedback from my audience
Here is a sample of
some of the answers I
received from the
questionnaire.
From these answers I
drew some statistics
which I go on to show
in the next slides
6. Here I wanted to see whether the final pieces
worked together well. I found from my statistics that
9 out of the 10 people said that they did. This meant
that I had successfully marketed and related each of
the pieces together. I learnt here that in order for my
product to be successful I wouldn’t be able to please
everyone but I have to be able to please the
majority.
Do you think the products work well
together?
Yes
No
0 2 4 6 8 10
7. 100% of the people which answered the questionnaire
said that the billboard message was quick and easy to
understand. This was vital as the newspaper I was
making was new so it needed a message that everyone
could understand as well as being able to recognise that
the advert is for a local newspaper
In the billboard do you find the direct message
quick and easy to understand?
No
Yes
0 2 4 6 8 10 12
8. Do you like the house style (colours) in the
newspaper or would you have liked to see
something else if so state what?
No
30%
Yes
70%
The majority of the audience liked the house style of
my newspaper but 30% of the people didn’t.
The ones that didn't’t gave me some reasons why. I
print screened these answers which are shown above
on the right hand side.
9. Do you find the jingle catchy in the radio
advert?

Yes No
Here I learnt from my audience feedback that the radio
advert wasn’t completely successful because half of the
people didn’t find the advert catchy which is the whole
point of a jingle. The audience helped me see what issues
there were with the radio advert in later questions of the
questionnaire
10. Could you tell that the billboard and radio
advert all relate to the newspaper?

Yes No
The majority of the audience were able to recognise
that the billboard and radio advert all related to the
newspaper. Telling me that in terms of advertisement
content I was successful in selling my product.
11. Do you think the pictures are
appropriate for a local newspaper?
No
Yes
0 2 4 6 8 10
Everyone found the pictures appropriate for a
local newspaper so I know that I fit the forms and
conventions of a real media product.
12. In your opinion what should I
have done differently in my
projects name one thing?
Here are a few of the
answers I received for
this question.
I learnt that from this
feedback the audience
contradicted some of
their previous answers
so it was hard to tell
whether I should take
there critique on board.
However I found that the
main issues were in the
radio advert and
billboard saying that they
should be more catchy
and interesting
13. 60% said that the structure of the newspaper fit in with real media
products. However I learnt from this that the audience that answered
these questions would typically look at newspapers like The Sun and The
Daily Mirror which pre established newspapers so comparing them to my
newspaper may not be accurate compared to if they compared it to a
local paper. With this fact aside I still find that the majority thought my
product related to a real media product
Does the newspaper have a good structure
like other real media products?
No
40%
Yes
60%
14. Do you think the products have a good
balance of text and image?
No
10%
Yes
90%
Here the chart shows that 90% said that my products
had good balance of text and image which meant that
my product was appealing to the eye but also had
enough information telling me I fit the forms and
conventions of a real media product
15. Which out of the
newspaper, billboard and
radio advert did you like best
and why?
Most of the people liked the
newspaper over the billboard Newspaper Billboard Radio Advert
and radio advert. I find this to
be a positive thing because the 10%
newspaper is the main product
so it should be valued more
30%
than the others.
60%
The next slide shows some of
the answers I got from this
question
16. This feedback showed me what was
successful and why the products were
successful.
17. What I learned from this audience feedback was whether
my products were successful and if not they why they
weren’t. I was able to get a range of different opinions to
see if I met the criteria of my target audience. However I
did find that some of the people that answered the
questionnaire may not even take the time to read a real
local newspaper which would then in turn mean that the
statistics I got may not be so reliable. Even still these
statistics helped me learn about my own work and how it
would be treated with everyday people that may not
necessarily read the newspaper.
