1. Questionnaire Results
Name: Jack Sharpling
Candidate Number: 2125
Center Name: St. Andrewâs Catholic School
Center Number: 64135
2. Secondary Research
As well as my primary research in the form of a survey
monkey questionnaire, I also carried out some further
primary research in the form of a typed up
questionnaire that I physically handed out and asked
people to complete. This extra research could of
allowed people to fill out this questionnaire who do not
have a computer, therefor this is allowing me to
maximise the amount of people of which I could collect
data off.
3. What Gender are you?
Male
Female
This questionnaire result connotes most of my reading audience will be male.
Therefore using this information I will layout my magazine mainly targeted to
males. I will do this by using conventions or altering conventions to suit the
stereotypical male reader. This is very similar to my Survey Monkey results
which can give my primary data support. As around 70% of the results are of
a male gender I will make the magazine more suitable for a male audience.
4. What Age Group do you belong to?
15-21
22-30
31+
This result represents which age group I am most likely to encounter to who
reads my magazine. This suggests I am looking at an audience who will be in
their mid-teens to early twenties. This also is similar to my Survey Monkey
results also giving it support meaning my data on my age groups are more
accurate. This question result also coveys that around 80% of my audience
are from their mid teens to their early twenties. As for this I will generate my
magazine to mostly fulfil the needs of the 15-21 age group.
5. What colours would you like to see in
a magazine?
Bright/iluminous
Black&White
Dull Colours
This questionnaire result connotes what colour scheme people are after.
This can give me assurance on what type of colour scheme to use as this
result also follows my Survey Monkey result. I will use this data to decide on
what colours to use for my task. Also as around 70% of my results want to
see my magazine in bright or iluminous colours means I will have to try and
fulfil this as much as I can as it is still a rock magazine and I donât not want
too much of bright colours.
6. How much are you willing to pay for
a magazine?
ÂŁ1-ÂŁ3
ÂŁ4-ÂŁ6
ÂŁ7+
The result from my questionnaire this connotes that most people are willing
to pay between ÂŁ1-ÂŁ3. Therefore after this result I will charge the price of my
magazine in-between this range. This is also a similar result to me Survey
Monkey, this therefore acts as support for my data which makes it more
reliable. This result also shows around 80% of my participants for my
questionnaire said they would pay for magazine within the bracket of ÂŁ1-ÂŁ3,
and as the rest of my participants would pay more this should cover most if
not all of my audience, I will do this by pricing my magazine ÂŁ1.99.
7. How often would you buy a
magazine?
Weekly
Fortnightly
Monthly
Never at all.
In this result this connotes how often people are expecting an issue or how
often they would buy an issue. This will allow me to choose whether my
magazine will be monthly releases. This has helped me decide and back up
my previous data as results are similar and it allows me to choose the best
option for how often I will release an issue. In this result around 60% of
people would buy a magazine monthly. To maximise the readers audience for
my magazine I will release a magazine every month.
8. What music genre of magazine would
you read?
Rock
Rap
POP
Indie
OtherâŚ
This result from my questionnaires suggests the music genre is most
popular. The most popular result in this questionnaire is rap, but as
my chosen magazine of inspiration is a rock magazine, I feel it is easier
to create my magazine on rock. Around 40% of my results for what is
the main genre people read chose rap. But as I am not that strong on
the genre of rap I have chose the second largest result; which is rock
music.
9. Which name do you think would suit
an indie rock magazine most?
Hear&Now!
Riff!
Fear For Your Ears! (FFYE)
It Rocks!
OtherâŚ
In this result I found out what peoples opinions are on a magazine
name which suits a rock magazine the most. The one with the most
picks is 'Riff!', as I do not want to use this as my final name for my
magazine, I will use it for inspiration for my final name. The most
picked name on this was âRiff!â with 40% of votes, I will use this as
inspiration to create a new name as I do not feel very strong about
this name. I will do this by creating a strong one worded name just
like âRiff!â.
10. What style of language would you
like to be in a magazine?
Informal
Formal
In this result from my questionnaires I asked people whether they
would prefer the text within a magazine to be formal or informal. As
informal was picked most I shall use informal text and sometimes
language to convey information to the reader. In this it is clear that
most people want to see a magazine with informal text as it had 60% of
the result. To follow this through I will use mainly informal text, but to
also keep my formal audience not all text will be fully informal.
11. Do unrelated music adverts in music
magazines affect your view of music
magazines?
Yes
No
Doesnât MatterâŚ
In this result I asked whether unrelated music adverts would affect the
readers opinion on the magazine. As most people said yes I shall not
include any unrelated music adverts in my magazine. This result coveys
that 65% of my audience would be bothered about un-music related
adverts in my magazine. To decrease the chance of readers getting
bothered I will not include any un-related music magazine adverts.
12. Would you like personal interviews
with the specific magazine you have
bought?
Yes
No
In this I asked if people would want personal interviews with the
specific magazine they have bought. The results were 50/50
therefore I feel as it doesn't matter whether I include personal
interviews or not. 50% of people would both like and not like
personal interviews. To keep my audience I will not include a
personal interview in every issue.
13. What features would you like a music
magazine to include the most?
Images
Exclusive
Information/Interviews
Information about Artists'
Plans
Free Giveaways
In this I asked which feature readers would like music magazines to include most.
As presented here exclusive information or exclusive interviews are the most
popular. As all features are good at attracting readers I may use all three of these
features, but I will concentrate on exclusive information and exclusive interviews
most. As 45% of people would like exclusive information I will try my best to
include exclusive information in my issues, but quite a large proportion also want
images and artist plans, such as for live gigs etc⌠so I can call back on something if
I donât have any exclusive information to give out.
14. What free giveaways would you
expect a music magazine to give
away?
Demo's of Songs
Posters
Clothing
Music Related
Merchandise
In this questionnaire I found out which free give awayâs do readers expect music
magazine to give out. This result clearly connotes that demo's of songs are very
popular. I think I will use this as it is the most related music give away we can
give out regularly. As around 45% of my questionnaire results would like to see
demoâs of songs I will try my best to provide these. But also 25% of people would
like posters, therefore I can give out posters if I donât have any demoâs of songs
to give out.
15. If a magazine was about a specific
genre, would you still like a bit of
information about other music
genres within that magazine?
Yes
No
In this question I asked that even though my magazine is about a specific genre,
would the reader still like some updates and information about other genres. Most
people have said yes therefore I shall include information about other genres, but
not too much as it is only about a specific genre. This result clearly connotes that
60% of my audience will still like to gather information from other genres even
though it is a rock magazine. So to meet my audiences needs I will gather small
amounts of information from other genres.
16. Are you more likely to buy a
magazine with exclusive information
and features, over a magazine with
no exclusive information or features?
Yes
No
In this I asked if readers would buy a magazine with exclusive features and
information over a magazine which didn't. The results were 50%/50% therefore
it shouldn't really matter, but I want to make my magazine as attractive as I can,
therefore I am going to include as much exclusive data and information as I can.
17. Conclusion
Similar to my survey monkey results the majority of my respondents were
male ages between 15 â 21 and so this is who I am going to target my
magazine at. Bright aluminous colours were again the most popular colour
choice, and the respondents favoured a lower price for the magazine. My
magazine will be a monthly edition as this was the most popular choice and it
will be filled with exclusive interviews and music related advertisements.
Many of these conclusions correspond with my survey monkey results and so
help to reinforce a lot of the decisions I will make from these results.
