Analysing the
Results

2. To help me with deciding what items to put onto my
music magazine, I conducted a survey to find out
what people like in a magazine. I did this using the
website
. This will help me
because now I have direct knowledge from the
audience and will hopefully be able to satisfy their
expectations. On the next few slides I will analysing
each of the questions I asked, looking at the data I
collected, and then finally drawing up a conclusion.

3. What kind of artists would draw you in to pick up a
alternative/rock magazine?
This was an open question, allowing the participants to freely give their answers
and not be limited to a few selected artists. I did this because if I had given them
multiple choice questions, they would not have had a lot of choice and so they may
have lied if their answer was not there. Though I now know what artists some
people like, it is harder to analyse and I will have to think carefully about which
artists I should put onto my magazine as I’ll need to satisfy a lot of people.

4. How often do you like to buy/read
alternative/rock music magazines?
This is also an open question, allowing the audience to freely
express their answer. I think this question should have been
made into a closed question and just given them a multiple
choice answer as it would have been easier to analyse and it
would have provided more quantative data. However I have
received interesting answers, in particular ‘depends on the front
cover’ – this highlights how important it is to get the front cover
right, and to make it as attractive as possible.

5. This is perhaps the most important question I
asked out of my whole survey, because it
applies directly to the audience and what they
found attractive on a front cover. I realise now
I probably should have included the option
‘attractive front page musician’ as from my
research that would apply to a lot of people, so
I will bear it in mind when creating my own
magazine. From this bar graph I can see that
the most popular attraction is the reviews, so
that is something to bring to light especially in
the contents page.

6. What kind of freebies do you like to see on a
front cover of a alternative/rock magazine?
This I choose to ask because while freebies are not necessarily
the most important to include in a magazine, they are sometimes
helpful to help to add to the appeal of the magazine as some
people sometimes only buy the magazine for the freebies – but
they have to be worthwhile. The suggestions below will help me
decide whether to include a freebie and if I do, what. I decided to
make it a non multiple question because everyone’s opinion is
different.

7. This closed question is going to help in
production for the magazine because it
will advise me on what the front cover
should look like and whether it should have
a complete full bleed image alone or
whether it should be accompanied by
other smaller images to help break up the
text. Judging by the results, the majority
of people are attracted by a big picture
alone, so I think that is the way I will go.

8. Social networking is becoming increasingly popular,
with more and more accounts being made on sites
like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This will be a
good way to push my magazine out further, if I can
interact with my audience through social media, so I
asked my audience how often they actually access
these accounts. As you can see from the results,
they go onto them quite a lot,
This persuades me even further to set up ‘accounts’
for my magazine as to draw my audience further.

9. I asked this closed question because it will
help with the previous question about
social media sites. From these results, it
seems that most people like to get their
music news and updates from Twitter, so I
could make a Twitter account for my music
magazine and post from there. I could also
make a Facebook account or YouTube
Channel and express my magazine there
as well.

10. Gigs and festivals are a great way to interact
with your audience and for them to connect to
each other. It would be amazing if your
magazine was the reason for new
relationships, and this is why I asked the
question shown. If you can promote new
artists or even own a stage at say, Reading
Festival, which has proven to be the best for
seeing the alternative rock artists, then your
target audience will be even more persuaded
to buy your magazine.

11. As well as the rise of social media, more
and more people own a mobile phone that
has access to the internet, which is filled
with music and videos. This is why I would
like to create an app by my music
magazine, to employ people who use the
internet to search for musical talent and
new tracks etc, as they will be interested
in downloading the app. As I can see from
the results, it is worth a try to ‘create’ an
app.
