2. Kent life- Audience demographics
The bar chart showing the age of the audience shows that the largest age category with around 31% of the
sales is 25-24 (young adults) being the largest buyer of the magazine, although it also shows that there are
many buyers through all age groups apart from kids. The gender pie chart shows roughly a ratio of 2:1 in the
females favour showing that woman are twice as more likely to buy the magazine. From this I can assume
that Kent life’s target audience could be aimed at young to middle aged woman. This is backed up by how
the magazine was laid out such as the serif font used for titles etc. in all issues this is a more sophisticated
style which appeal more for woman. Although serif font could show an older audience with san serif font
being associated with a younger audience. Younger audience also shows the importance of websites and
online platform's which are easily accessible from the website and shown in the magazines.
3. Landscapes- Audience demographics
The bar chart showing the age audience of the magazine, shows that the biggest buying age range being the
35-44 year olds (middle aged) with around 35% of the sales. This is a higher age then the Kent life magazine
but more what I expected for the style of magazine. The gender pie chart is again female heavy which backs
up the female dominance of this genre of magazine. From this I can assume that the target audience for
Landscapes magazine could be aimed at a young to middle aged woman. This backed up by the use of serif
font in the magazine for headings, sub headings etc. This is a more sophisticated and feminine style for the
magazine. The serif font also implies an older audience for the magazine which goes with the age bar chart.
4. English Gardens- Audience demographics
• Average age of 43
• 67% audience were female
• 33% audience were male
• 78% worked full-time, whilst only 3% were students and only 11% part
time
These statistics were the outcome of a survey which English Garden did in their magazine. This was to find an
accurate answer to who their audience is, allowing the company to style their magazine best suited to their
audience. The stats suggest a more female dominated consumer, this is the same as the other magazines that I
have looked at. The average was 43 showing a target audience in the middle age category, this is slightly older
then the other two magazines I have looked at but more what I expected for this genre of magazine. 78% of
buyers worked full time this could show a middle class audience, this class is more likely to be subscribed to the
company creating a loyal fan base. Very low percent of student buyers can show the small amount of young
adults/teens who read the magazine.
5. My target audience
From the research that I have found, I think that my target audience will be mostly around middle aged and
middle classed woman, the age category being around 35-45 range, this is due to the bar charts both having
the majority of buyers around this age and English Gardens average age being around this too. The stat that
only 3% of buyers are students further underlines the lack of teens and who buy the magazine. In all three of
the magazines, females are at least on 2:1 ratio of women to men showing that they are the main audience of
the book. However in two of the pie charts 33% of buyers were male, this is still a large percentage of people
buying the magazine, although I will give the magazine a more feminine style I will try and make the magazine
as a whole more neutral so the male audience is still accustomed to buy it.
