Survey Results
1. 78% of people said that they were between the ages of 15 and 24
so my magazine will be designed to hit this particular age group,
this will affect the price, the types of adverts, the types of article
and also what kind of incentives will be included in the magazine.
Things like putting in a certain code which can be used online for
exclusive information will appeal to this age range as online
extras attract a younger group of people.
2. There’s almost a 50/50 split between Males and Females
so the magazine will be aimed at both genders. This
means the kind of adverts and articles that are in my
magazine need to be things that will appeal to both
genders.

As the majority of people live in the York and Selby area,
mentioning local bands that perform within that region would
be a good idea. It means they would be able to see bands that
suited their genre of music without having to travel miles and
miles, this would fit the age group because they won’t have to
travel as far, and they won’t be spending much money which is
useful for students.

The majority of people are interested in rock. 22%
have chosen the rock option, then on the others
options, 4 people have commented on a particular
type of rock so the magazine will be based on this
genre
5. The majority of people had bought Kerrang! magazine which
links in with the genre of music that my magazine will be
based on. Following a similar kind of style as Kerrang! would
be a good idea as they know how to appeal to that target
audience meaningthe typesof articles,coloursandincentives
will be similarasKerrang!magazine’stargetaudience ispretty
much the same as the results I have collected.
6. Although 31.25% of people said under a pound,
that price is quite unrealistic. The second highest
percentage is £2 - £2.99, this price range is more
realistic and one I will be using for my magazine.
This type of price will also appeal to my target
audience as the majority of them will be student,
so they are more likely to buy it if it’s a reasonable
price.
7. Thisshowsthat for the majorityof people, thereare alreadymagazinesoutthere
that suittheirgenre taste, meaningthere isalotof competitioninthe market. To
help sell my magazine I need to add something unique and interesting to
persuade peopletobuythe magazine. The price of it alreadyhelpsas the price of
£2- £2.99 is quite cheapfora magazine, alreadythiswill persuade people to buy,
especiallypeople of the age of 15-24. Puttingincentivesintomymagazineswould
also encourage people to buy my magazine.
8. With this question I feel like the majority of people who
answereddid not take the questionnaire seriously. However
12% said that they bought one every 6 months and 20% said
they bought one every 12 months. The 44% that chose other
mainly said that they never buy music magazine which
suggest to me that the majority of people prefer to read
articles online rather than have a subscription to a magazine
or goingout and buyingone.A goodwayto encourage people
to buy my magazine would be to have exclusive features to
those whoare subscribedtothe magazine e.g. give members
codes to unlock exclusive interviews and giveaways.
