2. What is your Gender?
The results from the first question
tell me that the majority of people
that took my questionnaire were
female. This impacts the results as
when analysing the following results
from my questionnaire, I can see
what the female population would
like to see in the magazine and what
the male population would like to
see. This will help me determine
whether my magazine will be best
suited to have a male, female, or
unisex audience for the content and
genre I will choose.
3. What is your age?
The results from this question shows that
the large majority of those who
answered my questionnaire were
between the age of 11 and 20. This
impacts the results as I can now see that
the answers that have been given to the
other questions will most likely be from
the the most popular age range. This
helps me to understand what this target
audience would like to read about, and
will help me to decided what my target
audience will be for my magazine and
how to approach that target audience
with the use of colour, imagery, and
content.
4. Do you read regional
magazines?
The results for this questionnaire
show that only 5 out of the 17 people
who answered my questionnaire read
regional magazines. The data about
the age of these 17 people suggest
that most young people between the
age of 11 and 20 do not read regional
magazines. This tells me that it would
not be ideal to target my magazine at
the younger audience as they are
unlikely to read the magazine.
Despite this, it does tell me that if I
chose to target my magazine at this
audience, I would need to encourage
the audience to read my magazine
with a front cover that will attract
this audience.
5. What would draw you to
a regional magazine?
The results for this question show me
that images draw people to a regional
magazine. This question does not
seem to be altered by age difference
as the results are even spread. This
strongly suggests to me that for my
magazine, despite the age group and
target audience, I will need to think
about the images I will use for each
page, and the number of images used.
I will also need to think about the
number of images used in proportion
to the colour scheme and content.
The questionnaire tells me that giving
freebies with the magazine is not
necessary in drawing the readers in,
so I know that I will not need to use
them on my magazine.
6. What topics would you like
to read about in a regional
magazine?
The results show that the top 3 topics
that people like to read about in a
regional magazine is food and drink,
Recipes, and Places to visit. This tells
me that both men and women like to
read about these topics. However it
does suggest to me that people
between the age of 11 and 20 like to
read about these things, even though it
is uncommon for this age range to be
interested in these topics. The results
tell me that for my magazine, I should
write about these three topics, and
pick a genre that relates to at least two
of these topics in order to be successful
and target my chosen target audience.
7. How important do you think
images are in a regional
magazine?
The results for this question
concluded that images are important
in a regional magazine with the
average score out of 30 being 24. This
corresponds with the results from
question 4 with images being the
important in drawing attention to the
magazine and enticing people to read
the magazine. This tells me that I
must carefully think about the images
I will use on my magazine, where they
will be placed, and the photographic
skill that will be ideal for making my
magazine. It also suggests to me that
the images I include in my magazine
must be self explanatory to some
extent as they will be the main focus
in my magazine.
8. Are you more interested in
images or written articles for
a regional magazine?
The results for this question tell me
that the audience are more interested
in images rather than written articles.
This set of results as well as the results
take from question 4 and 7, tell me
that when creating my magazine I
should think more about the images
used in my magazine and the layout
rather than the quantity of the written
language and articles in my magazine.
This data also tells me that to target
my audience, it would be a good idea
to use images to create a story or an
article. For a food and drink magazine
images would be ideal to use over
articles. This conclusion fits extremely
well with the results from the previous
questions.
9. Which region would you
prefer to read about?
The results clearly show that the location
that people would prefer to read about in
the UK is London. This is an expected
result as it is a capital city which almost
all people between the ages of 11 and 50
will have at the very least heard of. This
result links with the age and the topics
which people would like to read about as
food and drink, recipes, and places to visit
are all common questions asked by people
living in the London area or wanting to
attend this area. The results tell me that I
should base my magazine in the region of
London on order to create a successful
magazine for my target audience.
10. Which genres of regional
magazine would you be most
interested in?
These results conclude that the top 3 genres
of regional magazine that people are
interested in is home, lifestyle, and baking
and recipes. These results correlate with
the previous results gathered by question
number 5, in which the participants of this
questionnaire said they would like to read
about food, drink, and recipes the most, as
well as things to see in the chosen region.
With this information, the most successful
genre would be home, which can easily
include baking, recipes, lifestyle, and
tourism. The option of health and fitness
could also be incorporated into my magazine
with healthy recipes, or a home inspired
gym.
11. Would you prefer to read a regional
magazine about your local area or
a different region to the one you
live in?
The results for this question tell me that most
people would like to read about their local area.
This means that my target audience should be
the audience that live in the region my magazine
will be based in. However, the results are very
close with only one response making the
difference, suggesting to me that my magazine
would be more successful if it appealed to both
those living in the area and tourists. This tells
me that the writing style I will choose must
target both the local people, but not so much
that tourists do not understand enough
information to be able to read the magazine. It
also tells me that I should make sure that the
images and information appeals to tourists and
locals, so the information should be not too
vague but also not too stereotypical that all
magazines that contain the same region and
genre, write about the same things.
12. The results from my questionnaire on the content I should
have in my magazine has given me strong tells on what my
target audience should be and which genre and region would
be best suited for my target audience. It has also told me
what I should include to draw people to my magazine, and
what things are the most important, in order to make my
magazine successful, and construct the correct
representation, like images and articles.
