What kind of institution may
distribute your media product?
An media institution is an organization/ company that owns numerous companies
in various mass media; i.e. television, radio, publishing, motion picture, and the
Internet. They are responsible for marketing and the distribution of the media
product. Some examples are BBC, Sky and CNN.
Bauer Media Group is a large European media company
who manages portfolios of 600 magazines, over 400
digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the
world. Bauer Media Group own popular companies such
as Kerrang!, Q and Mojo. The corporation has been
managed by five generations of the Bauer family.
When I did my market research I looked at Q magazine
published by Bauer media group. They aim to connect
there target audience with there role models by creating
exclusive interviews, photo shoots and competitions.
They create a friendly environment, a platform where
the reader can feel one with the information it is
receiving. Many of there magazines break conventions
and stereotypes. With my magazine having slimier aims
this is who I would like to be published with.
I think that due to the similerlaritys between Q and my
magazine Vinyl they may not be willing to publish it as it
would be direct competition for the current magazine.
On the other hand knowing the success for Q they may
be very interested in publishing it as it would be and
alternative magazine for a often un targeted audience
creating new opportunity's for the publishers. If I was to
go with another company Bauer would more than likely
feel like they were missing out on being able to create a
new music based platform with a new target audience.
When my magazine is published I would
also like an electronic version to be created
to that my audience can access it from as
many platforms as possible. As I found out
in my survey more target audience is very
technology savvy. They often spend hours
online. By making an electronic version of
the magazine with a monthly subscribtion
free not onlt will the magazine have
opportunity to sell when its not on the
shelves but this assets may be valuable for
members of my target audience that are
more likely to look for music news online
than go into a store and porches a
magazine. By having this facility literally in
the target audience back pockets available
at any time at the touch of a figure tip may
also increase readership over time. I would
also be interested in creating a up to date
spotify account constantly up dating and
publishing new artists, new singles, top
charts and classic hits. By using other
platform like this it again makes it easy for
the target audience to access.
