MOSHIACH IN THE PARSHA
וְרָחֲצוּ אַהֲרֹן וּבָנָיו מִמֶּנּוּ, אֶת יְדֵיהֶם וְאֶת רַגְלֵיהֶם" )שמות ל, יט(
The idea of washing contains two parts: Taharah and Kedushah.
Being Metaher one’s hands and feet through washing is similar
to Mikvah. Therefore, just like by Mikvah the whole body has to
be immersed at once, so too the hands and feet must be washed
simultaneously. This is why the Posuk says “Yedeihem V’Ragleihem”,
without a Hefsek in between. However, there is another aspect to
washing: the adding of Kedushah. In regard to this the Torah says,
“Es Yedeihem V’Es Ragleihem”, this time interrupting with an “Es”.
This is because, when it comes to the Kedushah of the Avodah in
the Beis HaMikdosh, it is obvious that the hands, which actually
perform the various holy tasks, have a higher degree of Kedushah
than the feet, which only do the standing and transporting.
Since Tefillah is in place of the Avodah in the Beis Hamikdosh, the
Rambam learns from these pesukim that one must wash his face,
hands, and feet before Davening Shacharis. The question is: the
Kohanim only washed their hands and feet; why did the Rambam
add that we should wash our face, as well?
The difference between the face and the hands and feet is that
the latter contain a person’s capability to perform actions, whereas
the face contain a person more internal abilities, such as intellect,
sight, hearing, and speech. Therefore, in the times of the Beis
HaMikdosh, when the Shechinah dwelt there, people separated
their internal capabilities from daily life and, as a result, didn’t need
to wash the face before performing the Avodah. However, now,
when we use also our internal capabilities for worldly matters, we
perforce must also wash our face before Davening.
If we do our Avodah properly, starting with washing our faces,
our intellect, then we will ultimately be Zocheh to attain the level
that is above that necessity, with the coming of Moshiach, Teikef
U’Miyad, Mamosh.

כתב יד קודש
Presented below is a very powerful Ksav Yad, which stresses both
the importance of Davening for the actual, literal Geulah and that this
Tefillah truly takes effect in this world, every day.
On 25 Teves 5744, at the Shabbos Farbrengen, the Rebbe discussed
the question, “Every day, for almost two thousand years now, numerous
times daily, we’ve been Davening for Moshiach; how is it possible that
Moshiach has not yet arrived?!”
The Rebbe pointed out that this issue
has already been addressed by the
Shaloh HaKodosh. His answer, in short
– as explained by the Rebbe – is that,
just like every Mitzva has a spiritual
effect in Shomayim, so does the Mitzva
of Teffiloh. And, since the Neshomo of
a Yid is his primary focus of being, it
follows that what our prayers achieve
on high is not insignificant, but the
true reality and it merely needs be
drawn down below.
***
That Wednesday, the editors of the Morristown Kovetz Ha’oros sent
the Rebbe a Hanacha of this part of the Farbrengen, stating that it was
relevant to one of the Ha’oros and that they would like to include it in
their upcoming Kovetz.
At the bottom of the Hanacha (which, as aforementioned, points
to the spiritual relevance of our Davening), the Rebbe added (to be
included in the Kovetz):
At the same time, it is obvious that if, while saying the Brochos
in which we request the Geulah, one has in mind anything other
than their literal meaning, then his behavior is contrary to the
requirement of Halocho and the Mitzvas Asei of Teffiloh, as
interpreted by the Rambam and others:
that a person must ask Hashem for his
physical needs. This is besides the main
issue that his intentions are contrary to
the simple meaning of the Brochos!
It is also noteworthy that the Shaloh
himself actually makes clear that, “while it
is true that the prayer of a Minyan is always
heard, this does not mean that Hashem
will necessarily grant the request fully,
but that he will do something somewhat
similar to it.” So we see that, every single
day we merit the Geulah, for we are like a
sheep surrounded by seventy wolves, unable to survive and yet, every
single day, “they stand up against us to destroy us and Hashem saves us
from their hand.”

“The bird has found a house and the swallow a nest for herself.” (Tehillim 84:4)
Let us ponder: Hashem’s mercy is so great that He cares for all creations. Even a swallow, a bird which is constantly moving
from place to place, is provided with a nest for itself.
And yet, the Jewish nation, the only son of Hashem – the king of all kings – is wandering from place to place! They have been exiled from
their land and they are in the dark Golus.
This thought awakens the call to Hashem: “Ad Mosai – Until when will your only son be exiled from your Holy Table; exiled from seeing
Your glory and from greeting Your presence?!”
The only proper answer to this question is – Moshiach is coming. “I have found Dovid, my servant” – Moshiach. (Tehillim 89:21) If
Hashem can “find” a house for the birds, he can surely “find” Moshiach for us.
We will finally merit to see the Beis Hamikdosh come down from heaven and go, together with it, to Yerushalayim.

Once, when the Alter Rebbe was in the Mikvah, he asked
one of his Chassidim to mention to him the names of different
cities where there are Jewish communities. The Chossid
began to mention several cities in Germany. The Alter Rebbe
responded, “In Germany there are found very great Neshomos.
However, they have fallen so low into the depths of the Kelipos that
even the Baal Shem Tov was unable to save them. Only Moshiach
himself will save them!”
The Chossid began to mention names of cities in Poland.
However, the Alter Rebbe again interrupted him and said, “The
Yidden of Poland have sincere Emunah rooted in their hearts and
this will bring Moshiach! The Baal Shem Tov came to affect the
Yidden of Russia; mention to me cities in Russia.”
