MOSHIACH IN THE PARSHA
The Golus we find ourselves in today, as we wait for the Geulah,
is compared to the Midbar where the Yidden wandered, waiting
to enter Eretz Yisroel. The desert they waited and wandered in is
described in Parshas Eikev as "...that great and awesome desert,
[in which were] snakes, vipers and scorpions, and drought,
where there was no water". These descriptions also refer to our
"Midbar", our present Golus, and to the obstacles that one can
face while in the "desert" of Golus.
In order to go out of Golus, we must first recognize and know
what Golus is. Only then can we know how to get out of it and
get to Geulah. "Yedias Hamachla Chatzi Harefua" - Knowing the
sickness is half its cure.
"Great (desert)": A desert is defined in Torah as "Makom Lo
Yoshav Odom Sham" - A place not inhabited by man. Since only
Yidden are referred to in the Torah as "Man" - "Odom", a desert
then is a place where all the nations, besides Yidden, live. Because
the non-Jew greatly outnumbers the Jew, a Jew can think that it is
a "Great Desert". This is the first obstacle, first step in a Jew's fall.
When he begins looking at the non-Jews as "greater" than him and
himself as "small".
"Awesome desert": This is another step in Golus. He starts
fearing (Yirah - Norah) the world, the great desert that surrounds
him. It seems to him that the world and the non-Jews have power
over him and he always worries "what will the Goyim think, say,
do..."
"Snakes": Then, he begins experiencing heat and passion for
worldly pleasures, like a snake whose venom burns. It starts
eating and gnawing at him from the inside and controlling him.
"Vipers": The increase of heat and passion for worldly pleasures
causes a decrease of his passion and inspiration for Judaism and
Kedusha. His inner flame fades. It gets consumed and absorbed
by his other pleasures.
"Scorpions": Any flame left in his heart at this stage, even not
of Kedusha, could still turn him back and reignite his passion for
Kedusha. However now he is like a scorpion whose venom cools.
He is taken over and controlled by coolness. He does not get
inspired or reignited. The spark of fire in his heart is getting frozen.
"Drought, where there was no water": In this stage, he has
fallen so low that even when he ultimately gets "thirsty" - drought,
he doesn't "get it" and realize that what he is thirsty for is water -
Torah (which is compared to water).
How can one get so low? Where does it start? From "Great
(Desert)". From a Yid, even secretly in a small corner of his heart,
giving chashivus to the world, the "desert", thinking that it is a
"Great Desert". This opens the way to the whole process.
In order to successfully "cross" this "desert" in peace, we need to
be very careful from falling into the first trap - "Great (Desert)".
We should not look at the desert surrounding us as "great",
then we won’t fall into the traps that follow it; begin fearing it,
experience passion for it etc. We should instead remember and
remind ourselves that we are specially chosen by Hashem from all
the nations and nothing and no one has any power over us. May
Hashem bring us Moshiach and the Geulah immediately!

As usual the Rebbe edited the Sicha of Parshas Chukas 5751, among the corrections are the
following:
פליען" which translates "we will go to the Holy Land", the Rebbe wrote "גייען אין ארץ הקודש" Instead of
. . we will fly with the clouds of the heaven to - עם ענני שמיא
DIDYOUKNOW
In the summer of 5751 the
Rebbe came up with an idea
to print Chassidus in braille,
bringing the wellsprings to a
whole new Chutzah which is
the key to bringing Moshiach.
The first Sefer printed was
Sefer HaTanya.

In the Sicha of Shabbos Parshas Eikev 5744, the Rebbe quotes someone for declaring that just as Moshiach didn't arrive in the
past 1900 years, so too he won't necessarily arrive in the coming 1900 years.
But the Rebbe is more disgusted with the Lubavitcher who studies Chassidus and is involved in activities to hasten the coming of
Moshiach, and when he hears this statement he becomes confused. "Why are you confused? We already spoke more than one hundred and
one times the proofs that every Yid begs that Moshiach come now, not in a few months and most certainly not in a few years, Rachmono
Litzlan! Moshiach should come immediately!"
Then the Rebbe discusses the 'proofs' that when a Yid asks for Moshiach, he intends that it should be now. The basis for this is not from
I await him every day that He shall come", for this could be explained that "every day I - אחכה לו בכל יום שיבא the 'Ani Maamin' which states
await his arrival in the distant future".
Speedily cause the scion of David Your servant to - את צמח דוד עבדך מהרה תצמיח Rather the basis is from the fact that after asking in Mincha
May our eyes behold Your return to Zion in mercy, when Maariv comes and Moshiach has not - ותחזינה ענינו בשובך לציון ברחמים flourish, and
yet arrived he reiterates his request. This is clearly a sound proof that when asking for Moshiach in Mincha - he intended that Moshiach
come before the time for Maariv arrives.
א.וו.
