"When the time came for her to give birth, there were twins in her
wombs . . He named him Peretz . . He named him Zerach."
The Midrash tells us that Moshiach will be a descendant of
Peretz. We therefore see, continues the Midrash, that Hashem
"Hikdim Refuah Lemakah" - "prepared the cure before the illness".
Before Paroh, the first oppressor of the Yidden, was born, the
final redeemer of the Yidden had already been born - Peretz, the
forefather of Moshiach.
The birth of Peretz was not merely a symbol of Moshiach, being
that Moshiach was to descend from him, rather, with the birth of
Peretz, Hashem created Oro Shel Moshiach - the light of Moshiach.
This is the true meaning of the Midrash that Hashem prepared
the cure before the illness. The Oro Shel Moshiach is what gives
Yidden the Koach to succeed, even in Golus, in being "Poretz
Gedarim" - breaking boundaries. "Poretz Gedarim" is of the same
Lashon as the name Peretz and it is the power that was given to the
Yidden with his birth. We received this power before the Makah -
the birth of Paroh, who led Golus Mitzraim, which is the source of
all other Goluyos.
The name of Peretz's brother Zerach - Radiance, also alludes to
the Geulah. The rulership of Moshiach will shine and illuminate the
entire world. Every person, everywhere in the world, will benefit
from his light. As the Novi writes about the Geulah, "Nations will
go to your light and kings will go to your Radiance".

One of the elderly Chassidim from Eretz Yisroel had a custom to travel to the Rebbe for the month of
Tishrei and buy one of the โMitzvosโ of Yom Kippur โ opening and closing the Aron Kodesh etc. At the
beginning of Tishrei 5743 he wrote to the Rebbe:

He wanted to know: If I have hope to live, and
merit to come next year . . I will finish with Reb
Shea Pinson buying the Mitzvos of next year.
The Rebbe added at the beginning of his

On Chanukah, we
light one candle the
first night, adding one
every night, reaching
eight on the last night.
When Moshiach
comes, we will
light eight candles
immediately on the
first night, lighting
one less each night
eventually lighting one
on the last night.

In 5556, shortly after the Alter Rebbe finished writing the Tanya.
He sent a copy to two great Chassidim of the time - Reb Zusha
of Anipoli and Reb Yehuda Leib Hakohen, who lived in the same
town across a river, to receive their approbation.
Immediately upon their receipt of this intricate work, they
simultaneously sat through the night learning it thoroughly from
cover to cover. When they finally finished, in the wee hours of the
morning, they were overtaken with such immense excitement that
they wished to share the good news with their friend.
Each one jumped up and embarked on his early morning journey
across town towards his friendโs house. Sure enough, their journey
was stopped short when they met on the bridge, they grabbed each
otherโs hand and broke out into a Chassidishe dance.
Later Reb Zusha said: with the Sefer of Tanya Yidden will go to
greet Moshiach.

We sometimes wonder, while facing continuous and repeated mishaps, why are things the way they are? Must everything
we do be met with failure?
Are there reasons for all these problems we encounter or are they just coincidence? Is there an answer to every question or are we
merely losers who fail to lead a successful and orderly life without experiencing technical difficulties and dilemmas? And if this is the natural
order, is this always the case?
It seems that someone has preceded us with our wonders. Our Parsha relates how Yaakov settled in the land of Canaan, thus wishing to
relieve himself of all the worries and complications that were his lot until than. Hashem had other plans, and the episode of the sale of Yosef,
which eventually led to the Egyptian exile, disrupted his life yet again.
Why?! If Yaakov reached the conclusion that it has come the time that he finally live in peace, why did Hashem withhold this from him?
The same question applies to the fact that Yaakov thought he was ready for the Geulah already when leaving the house of Lavan, so why
wasnโt this granted to him?
Yet, Hashem decided that it is of Yaakovโs interest and to his benefit to experience this upcoming descent into Golus, so that the redemption
which will follow will be of a much greater level. Despite Yaakovโs cries that he doesnโt want to remain in Golus even one moment longer,
nonetheless, Hashem decided that he must stay in Golus โ in order to receive this greater reward.
It was Hashem who decided that things should run in this fashion, that despite Yaakovโs desire to dive into redemption and enjoy a life of
peace and harmony โ the sale of Yosef should pounce upon him and cause yet another upheaval in his life, all to prepare him for and make
him worthy of an even greater reward.
Here is where the Yetzer Hora pipes up. โDonโt you see that Hashem wants Yidden to stay in Golusโ, he claims, โit is He Who decided that
Yaakov should be exiled to Egypt, and it is He Who decided that we be exiled today for as long as He wishes, so why do you scream โAd
Mosaiโ? Sit back and relax and wait for the day that Hashem will decide to redeem the Jewish people, at His convenienceโ.
After scolding him for his ignorance in Torah knowledge, teach him about a later story. The Yidden are supposed to stay in Mitzrayim to
gather great wealth, but they werenโt interested in that, so they screamed to Hashem that they are willing to forgo everything, just get us out
of this Golus. So too today, we must scream to Hashem from the depths of our heart, we want to leave this Golus and live a peaceful life โ
physically and spiritually. Enough of this Golus! Ad Mosai?
