3. Research
• My research was fairly good, I first had to get some simple ideas of what I wanted to do for
my product, as without this I’d be lost and wouldn’t know what to do at all, the thing that
probably helped me the most was researching gaming magazines that were popular already,
it showed me what I needed to put on my product to make it a professional magazine, it
turned out this was fairly simple to do, you just needed a few key things that would make the
magazine stand out, I knew which magazines to research and so this made things quicker for
me.
• I’m not sure there were any stand out weaknesses for me while researching this product, I
maybe was a bit unmotivated at times and I was ill a bit but apart from that the research was
fairly strong and easy to complete, if I hadn’t been ill I would have done more research and
added more detail, this would have possibly made the final product more detailed too, I
believe I didn’t put enough effort into research, so because of this the content in the article
wasn’t as great as it could have been.
4. Planning
• My planning was fairly good, I knew which games I wanted to plan for and
this helped immensely, I had seen covers of other gaming magazines, so I
could plan well and accurately for what I needed in my magazine, so when
it came around to the final product I could type it out quickly without
really having to think too much about it, this helped my product as it gave
it real content coming from my mind and not a web page with information
on.
• However not looking into webpages for information might have made
what I put inside the magazine slightly biased towards me, but in my
opinion it’s sometimes very difficult to be biased unless you’re incredibly
professional, this had a negative effect on my magazine as some people
reading may feel like I have a hatred towards For Honour.
5. Time Management
• My time wasn’t managed very well, firstly I was ill quite a lot, this had a
detrimental effect on how I managed my time, I did do work at home but I
could have done more if I was at college in my opinion, otherwise I
managed to hand in things on time, this was due to the fact that when I
was in college I had to work doubly hard to complete it, so I finished it on
time.
• If I had more time I feel like a lot in my work would have been different,
this is because I would have been able to do more things, researched
more, planned more etc etc, I would have also had more time to think
about what I was doing in my article, I could have also added more
information to the cover of my magazine, this would have put me on a
higher standard of work.
6. Technical Qualities
My magazine is very similar to the PC gamer one which I am
comparing it with, this is because I have taken a lot of inspiration
from it, the biggest thing that is similar to the PC Gamer magazine is
the top bar both feature a large bold title with a coloured
background behind them, both also feature a bar on top of this
which has a small little catch phrase, I then added information all
over the front of my magazine, this is also featured on the PC Gamer
magazine, I believe this is important for any magazine as it allows
people to see what’s inside of the magazine.
Again with this magazine there are things similar to mine, the thing
I like the most about this magazine is that it looks professional, and
that’s really what I was looking for in my magazine, it has some nice
features on the front of the magazine, including the blue info circle
at the bottom right, this is where I got inspiration to do my own
little circle with information on it in my magazine, I really just
wanted to get the profession that was on this magazine onto my
own.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I believe that my work looks good, this is
because I feel like I managed to make my
piece look like it is professional and this in my
opinion really matters, if it looks professional
it will give a good impression to anyone
looking at it, I also think it fits in with other
magazines but manages to stand out with it’s
mix of bright yellow and red, this helps if
when people are in stores looking for
magazines as they will see mines first.
It has a big picture of the main character from
Shadow of Mordor (Talion) this shows that
there is something new about Shadow of
Mordor and because of this people may be
interested to see what news there is about a
game that came out three years ago.
A weakness may be that the colours I have
chosen are too repetitive and repeat
themselves too much on the magazine front,
this makes the cover boring after you look at
it for a while.
One of the biggest weaknesses of my article
is that it is too boring on the page, it’s literally
just writing and this doesn’t make it
interesting to look out unless you literally just
wanted information and no glamour.
It is also rather hard to see the text on the
article because of the background, this is
bad because if anyone just came here for
information they will find it difficult to read
it.
8. Audience Appeal
I believe I achieved appealing to my target
audience, the age range was teenagers and I
think this would appeal to people who are
teenagers as most teenagers play games and
so might be interested in seeing this, most
teenagers would get their parents to buy
them magazines when they are too poor to
get their own, I believe that it doesn’t matter
which gender I focused this on, so I just
focused it on both, if you’re a gamer you will
enjoy this, it doesn’t matter about Gender,
the next thing is social status and I believe
this really doesn’t matter, as long as you can
afford the magazine there should be no
problem with acquiring the magazine so it
doesn’t matter if you’re working class, middle
class or upper class this magazine is open to
all, the psychographic for this was really just
people who were interested in gaming, this is
because the magazine is mainly about games,
and I have done this because I know quite a
lot about them so for me it is easier to do
something I know about, so because the
magazine is focused on games, the gamers I
have targeted will enjoy it.
The main part that would appeal to people
from my magazine would have to be the big
emphasis on gaming, this is because my
audience will mostly be gamers, I think if I
could have done anything to make this more
appealing for my audience, I would have
covered more games on the inside to appeal
to a wider audience and so make the
popularity of the magazine larger.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– Very professional looking as it had a consistent theme
running through it, the placement of the game
character was very creative as it gave it a 3D effect.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– I think you should improve on trying to make it stand
out and uniqueness, as a format and colours were
quite repetitive, which didn’t make it stand out.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the colour schemes and the headlines, the
way they stand out.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The barcode could be on the left side and be
bigger.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the colour scheme, very simple therefore I
won’t have an epileptic fit when I see it, I like the
cover style and I think that suits gaming.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The titles in the middle could be moved to the
side so we can see more of the cover art.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree that my piece has some nice colour scheming and it has
a nice cover with the character from Shadow of Mordor, I would
also agree that it is consistent, because of it’s consistency I
would say it keeps a simple theme and this really helps with the
professionalism of the magazine and the feel of it, I would also
say that perhaps the barcode should have been on the left as
this would have allowed it to be a bit bigger and stand out
more, just for a nice finishing touch.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I would disagree that my piece has repetitive colours, I think it
has a good consistent set of colours which stand out, I think that
because of the colour tool which I used my piece is able to stand
out a lot more than other magazines, and in my opinion this is
one of it’s strengths.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
There are quite a few things that I would change to my piece but the main thing would be
moving some of the titles that I have pit in the middle so people can see the cover art more
easily, I feel like this is a smart thing to do because the cover art is a very important part of
the magazine as it is a visual stimulator and makes up the most part of the magazine, there
are also other things that I would improve and change, namely the barcode, as one of my
peers in the feedback pointed out the barcode could be moved over to the left as this would
allow it to be bigger and it would look a lot better like this, it’s a good thing to have on a
magazine cover, especially on this as it makes it look like it’s a real magazine and not just
something a student made, and that’s really what I’m going for, now one of my other peers
said that my colours on my piece did not stand out, and perhaps he could be right so maybe I
would add in a few more colours, but not too many as I don’t want to over complicate my
page as this can make people lose interest.
