Production Process Evaluation
Research
• Strengths – The strengths of my research is how I was able to see what other gaming magazines were like
and what it took to make a good one. Especially with the first research image I found as I was able to get a
real clear idea for what a professional yet fitting of its audience magazine should look like. Another
strength was that I had a chance to gather intelligent ideas, to think of what I wanted on my particular
magazine cover. Also to see what right things would suit being on a gaming poster, like where to place a
plug or is a sub-heading relevant. Another strength is that I was able to see what audience a gaming poster
brings and how to get it so that particular audience enjoys my magazine cover. The gender of my audience
was also found out through research, making me decide weather I wanted it to be more male oriented or
female. This particular research helped my product because it allowed me to allocate what colours and
games I should include within my game magazine. For example in this particular magazine I went for being
more predominately male so I went for the colour scheme being a blue-ish colour, as for me that’s a male
colour. I also went for games that researched for males play, but for my main game went for a unisex game
to incorporate all players. I did this to symbolise that any person of any gender can read this magazine and
enjoy this magazine.
• Weaknesses – The weaknesses of my research is that I think I could of included more variety in my
research. As all my research looked pretty much the same. In fact I think they were all Xbox magazines
which, looking back wasn’t the best idea, as I didn’t get to see the variety that a PS4 magazine or a PC
magazine might have given me. Which is slightly disappointing that I didn’t create diversity.
Planning
• Strengths - The strengths of my planning was easily how I was able to make a preview plan of what I was
able to do, so I knew what I wanted to do before starting my main product. Giving me a chance to sort
things that I didn’t perhaps like or if I wanted to change the colour scheme of the magazine. Another
strength was that I could decide what features would look good where and what features needed
changing before I finished my product. Another strength was that it took away any uncertainties I had
about my product as I could just solve them in my planning just to make sure that the uncertainty was a
certainty and was fixed. Another strength was that it improved my time dramatically as I wasn’t spending
time thinking of what to do what it came to do my final product. I had a good idea of what to do and how
to do it thanks to my research and now my planning. Much like the time strength it also made me feel as if
I was in control of what I was doing, instead of being in a huge rush, I knew what I was doing, because I’d
already made a plan.
• Weaknesses – The main weakness of my planning was that it was very time consuming and took time
that shouldn’t have taken that long. Another weakness was that I was misdirecting my planning as I was
placing my interests ahead of the audience that I was suppose to be making the magazine for. Another
weakness was that just because I had made a plan doesn’t mean that I had to actually make that same
thing again symmetrically. Planning restricts you from improvising as you will think of ideas as you’re going
through your magazine, so some may say the idea of a plan is silly.
Time Management
• To be honest I don’t think I managed my time that well as I missed a few deadline dates, due to myself just
not concentrating and not focusing. Although I was putting everything into this particular product, as for
me this has been the most interesting thing to do. I didn’t complete my project on time like I have just
mentioned, this wasn’t done because I tried to put the up most detail into my work at all times even if that
meant crossing the deadline as I wanted it to be the best it could have been. Annoying I definitely could
have done with a lot more time as it would of helped me significantly, as I wouldn’t of had to rushed my
already late work. I could of spent more time on my game article as I believe I spent the least amount of
time on it and I think it would of looked so much better if it just had a bit more writing on it. If I had been
given more time to produce my work then I think my work would of probably have still been late to hand
in but It would have been of a lot better quality and looked a lot more attractive, as I did have a couple of
good ideas but I did realise that they just weren’t going to work within the time limit I was given, so I
decided not to do them. I think if I was also given more time to finish my work I would have spent more
time on the slide shows as I think on some of them some important information is lacking. When it really
shouldn’t be. As I believe I spent to much time on the main final product rather than the actual slide
shows which would have been more beneficial.
Technical Qualities
Similarities – The similarities of my product on the left and the product on the right is that they both have visually
cinematic backgrounds. Which you can see, mine being a man looking into the distance and the same with the real
game magazine. Another similarity is that it’s clear to see what the name of the game is because of the name being
featured more or less on top of the background picture that is shown. In big font letters like mine is. Another similarity
is that the same color scheme is followed throughout a lot like mine is, mine being teal and white, whilst the real one
being black and orange. Both also have a good captivating title of their magazine, that’s clear and easy to see and easy
to read, to which you don’t get confused with that and the rest of the other little things on the magazine cover.
Differences – The differences of my product on the left and the product on the right is that my magazine cover has a
lot more going on then said magazine. I have included a plug, which they have not included into their magazine. My
magazine is a lot more clustered than the magazine on the right a, which for me its better to have more than less, as
that magazine looks a little bare than mine. Another difference is my magazine covers a barcode and a price there's
doesn’t, saying that the barcode may be on the back of their magazine but still, it shows my magazine is more clearer in
price than theirs. The real magazine also includes a lot more sub headings than mine does, it includes a lot more
information than perhaps mine does. Has a lot more sub headings.
Aesthetic Qualities
I believe my work does look good, mainly because of the color scheme I used for it, and
the background image that is used as it just makes my work look professional but cool.
I think my work is also very creative in how its made, as it has all the things that a
magazine cover advertising games should have. Its also creative because the ideas
presented in the cover are really interesting and intelligent to have made if I do say so
myself. For example following the color scheme of the cinematic background, for me
was a great idea, as it allowed the colors to look and fit with the rest of the magazine.
Another thing why my magazine was creative was my use of pictures, in the right
particular places for example looking at my magazine you can see I have positioned the
PlayStation symbol and the Xbox symbol on opposite sounds to each other. Implying
that the magazine covers both consoles and both platforms. I like a lot of my game’s
visual’s and the reason for this is the use of the 4k image I found on the internet. As it
made everything else on the page flourish, it made everything stand out a lot more
and made everything pristine. If I had to improve something about this particular
magazine cover it would probably be the three images shown at the bottom of the
page, because they just don’t really fit in with the rest of the magazine, they look a bit
out of place. Another thing I would improve would be the main title of my game
magazine as I don’t think it stands out enough, so I’d stick it in a bolder color and make
it bigger so that people don’t get confused between the title of the magazine and the
title of the game. My strengths of my magazine cover would clearly be the look of it. It
is very attractive to look upon and its hard to take your eyes off it because it has got a
lot going on. Another strength is definitely how I conveyed the plugs and the selling
line as those two things for me are efficiently done. My weaknesses would probably be
Like mentioned above the images at the bottom and the barcode looking a little
stretched. As I think these were just silly mistakes and things could have placed there
that would have looked better. Or even re – sized to proportion.
Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my target audience by making my magazine look like the
other gaming magazines out on the market, as their audience is my audience. My
magazine also appeals to the my target audience as it filters around the
predominately male criteria section I was going for, being the main color of blue.
Although the blue color I have used and the white could be said of giving a
female vibe as well and that the game that is being showcased is a unisex game
as well. So in fact I haven’t really appealed to the target audience I said I was
going for. The specific bits from my magazine that would appeal to my audience
would be the games that are also being included inside, noticing that there is
two console symbols in both top hand corners of the magazine. As I did mention
that I would like to include diversity into my magazine, as most magazine just
restrict themselves to one console or one device but this particular one includes
two. Another bit would be the color scheme of the magazine as mentioned
above the color blue could imply masculinity. Another reason I believe I have
appealed to my target audience Is that I have reviewed my feedback and all my
audience have loved my magazine products, yes, they gave some faults but
throughout the whole feedback they enjoyed my product and told me that it
appealed to them. Another specific bit I would perhaps say that appeals to my
audience would be the authenticity of the magazine, the professionalism of how
it looks and I believe my audience seek that and that it interests them.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
• I liked how the product told me what kind of magazine it was before I even looked closer into it. You could
tell instantly that this magazine was a game one. I like the plug and the sub-headings that appeared upon
the game magazine, as they were both very effective in how they were used.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• A few improvements could be made with this particular magazine as I believe the images at the bottom
don’t really fit in with the magazine and they could really go as they aren’t really needed. Another
improvement could be that the plug writing could have been brighter and bolder as it was quite hard to
read.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– It follows all the conventions of a real media product,
and looks professional.
– It uses a set colour scheme.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The images at the bottom are a little too close to the
edge and seem to almost fall off the page.
– The barcode, along with the images at the bottom
seem a little stretched, and could be a bit cleaner.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– The layout is rather nice, as well the fonts for the text and the colour
scheme
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The game images at the bottom of the page are a bit stretched out
also the price pf the magazine font could be made cleaner and a lot
more condensed.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
• I agree with a lot of what my peers have said about my work, as all comments are fair and have
been justly explained. I agree that the colour scheme was effective and looked good, this was
actually one of my favourite things about my magazine as the colour scheme actually fit so well, so
I’m glad someone picked up on it. Another thing that I agreed with was the plug’s and my other
things like my sub-headings were correctly used and were used to entice the audience, which
worked. So as with my first comment I’m glad people enjoyed seeing what I was trying to showcase.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
• I disagree with a few things from my feedback, as I believe some comments were a bit harsh. For
example there was one case where someone suggested that my images at the bottom of my page
were unnecessarily and shouldn’t have been used there. Which for me was slightly rash as I didn’t
think those pictures were wrongly placed, I felt as if they were placed there to symbolise what was
going to be featured in the magazine. Another thing that came up a couple of times was the
barcode looking as if it had been stretched, which I disagree with as I believe that it looks normal
and actually far from stretched.
Peer Feedback Summary
The changes I would make to my product, after seeing the feedback I have been given would probably
be the images at the bottom of the page, as from closer inspection they do look a bit out of place and
a bit pointless being there. I would probably just delete them as they are already mentioned on the
front cover of my magazine anyway and then just leave the arrow image there instead. As I believe
that was quite a effective idea to use, as it implies the reader to turn the page, peaking interest.
Another change would possibly be the barcode although not a big change as it does look a bit
stretched, so I would probably just try to level it out a bit more than it already is. As perhaps that may
make it look a bit better than it already does. Another change I would make would be the writing in
the plug as admittedly the writing is slightly hard to read and doesn't really stand out like I would
have liked it to have done. So If I did have the chance to change I would probably make the writing a
deeper color or made the outline color bolder so the writing is clearer to read. Another possibility
could also be making the plug box a little brighter or even a blackish color as then perhaps it would
have stood at more than it already does. A different font could of helped as well and I think that this
would have approved the plug’s appearance, peaking the audiences interest.

7. evaluation(3)

  • 3. Research • Strengths – The strengths of my research is how I was able to see what other gaming magazines were like and what it took to make a good one. Especially with the first research image I found as I was able to get a real clear idea for what a professional yet fitting of its audience magazine should look like. Another strength was that I had a chance to gather intelligent ideas, to think of what I wanted on my particular magazine cover. Also to see what right things would suit being on a gaming poster, like where to place a plug or is a sub-heading relevant. Another strength is that I was able to see what audience a gaming poster brings and how to get it so that particular audience enjoys my magazine cover. The gender of my audience was also found out through research, making me decide weather I wanted it to be more male oriented or female. This particular research helped my product because it allowed me to allocate what colours and games I should include within my game magazine. For example in this particular magazine I went for being more predominately male so I went for the colour scheme being a blue-ish colour, as for me that’s a male colour. I also went for games that researched for males play, but for my main game went for a unisex game to incorporate all players. I did this to symbolise that any person of any gender can read this magazine and enjoy this magazine. • Weaknesses – The weaknesses of my research is that I think I could of included more variety in my research. As all my research looked pretty much the same. In fact I think they were all Xbox magazines which, looking back wasn’t the best idea, as I didn’t get to see the variety that a PS4 magazine or a PC magazine might have given me. Which is slightly disappointing that I didn’t create diversity.
  • 4. Planning • Strengths - The strengths of my planning was easily how I was able to make a preview plan of what I was able to do, so I knew what I wanted to do before starting my main product. Giving me a chance to sort things that I didn’t perhaps like or if I wanted to change the colour scheme of the magazine. Another strength was that I could decide what features would look good where and what features needed changing before I finished my product. Another strength was that it took away any uncertainties I had about my product as I could just solve them in my planning just to make sure that the uncertainty was a certainty and was fixed. Another strength was that it improved my time dramatically as I wasn’t spending time thinking of what to do what it came to do my final product. I had a good idea of what to do and how to do it thanks to my research and now my planning. Much like the time strength it also made me feel as if I was in control of what I was doing, instead of being in a huge rush, I knew what I was doing, because I’d already made a plan. • Weaknesses – The main weakness of my planning was that it was very time consuming and took time that shouldn’t have taken that long. Another weakness was that I was misdirecting my planning as I was placing my interests ahead of the audience that I was suppose to be making the magazine for. Another weakness was that just because I had made a plan doesn’t mean that I had to actually make that same thing again symmetrically. Planning restricts you from improvising as you will think of ideas as you’re going through your magazine, so some may say the idea of a plan is silly.
  • 5. Time Management • To be honest I don’t think I managed my time that well as I missed a few deadline dates, due to myself just not concentrating and not focusing. Although I was putting everything into this particular product, as for me this has been the most interesting thing to do. I didn’t complete my project on time like I have just mentioned, this wasn’t done because I tried to put the up most detail into my work at all times even if that meant crossing the deadline as I wanted it to be the best it could have been. Annoying I definitely could have done with a lot more time as it would of helped me significantly, as I wouldn’t of had to rushed my already late work. I could of spent more time on my game article as I believe I spent the least amount of time on it and I think it would of looked so much better if it just had a bit more writing on it. If I had been given more time to produce my work then I think my work would of probably have still been late to hand in but It would have been of a lot better quality and looked a lot more attractive, as I did have a couple of good ideas but I did realise that they just weren’t going to work within the time limit I was given, so I decided not to do them. I think if I was also given more time to finish my work I would have spent more time on the slide shows as I think on some of them some important information is lacking. When it really shouldn’t be. As I believe I spent to much time on the main final product rather than the actual slide shows which would have been more beneficial.
  • 6. Technical Qualities Similarities – The similarities of my product on the left and the product on the right is that they both have visually cinematic backgrounds. Which you can see, mine being a man looking into the distance and the same with the real game magazine. Another similarity is that it’s clear to see what the name of the game is because of the name being featured more or less on top of the background picture that is shown. In big font letters like mine is. Another similarity is that the same color scheme is followed throughout a lot like mine is, mine being teal and white, whilst the real one being black and orange. Both also have a good captivating title of their magazine, that’s clear and easy to see and easy to read, to which you don’t get confused with that and the rest of the other little things on the magazine cover. Differences – The differences of my product on the left and the product on the right is that my magazine cover has a lot more going on then said magazine. I have included a plug, which they have not included into their magazine. My magazine is a lot more clustered than the magazine on the right a, which for me its better to have more than less, as that magazine looks a little bare than mine. Another difference is my magazine covers a barcode and a price there's doesn’t, saying that the barcode may be on the back of their magazine but still, it shows my magazine is more clearer in price than theirs. The real magazine also includes a lot more sub headings than mine does, it includes a lot more information than perhaps mine does. Has a lot more sub headings.
  • 7. Aesthetic Qualities I believe my work does look good, mainly because of the color scheme I used for it, and the background image that is used as it just makes my work look professional but cool. I think my work is also very creative in how its made, as it has all the things that a magazine cover advertising games should have. Its also creative because the ideas presented in the cover are really interesting and intelligent to have made if I do say so myself. For example following the color scheme of the cinematic background, for me was a great idea, as it allowed the colors to look and fit with the rest of the magazine. Another thing why my magazine was creative was my use of pictures, in the right particular places for example looking at my magazine you can see I have positioned the PlayStation symbol and the Xbox symbol on opposite sounds to each other. Implying that the magazine covers both consoles and both platforms. I like a lot of my game’s visual’s and the reason for this is the use of the 4k image I found on the internet. As it made everything else on the page flourish, it made everything stand out a lot more and made everything pristine. If I had to improve something about this particular magazine cover it would probably be the three images shown at the bottom of the page, because they just don’t really fit in with the rest of the magazine, they look a bit out of place. Another thing I would improve would be the main title of my game magazine as I don’t think it stands out enough, so I’d stick it in a bolder color and make it bigger so that people don’t get confused between the title of the magazine and the title of the game. My strengths of my magazine cover would clearly be the look of it. It is very attractive to look upon and its hard to take your eyes off it because it has got a lot going on. Another strength is definitely how I conveyed the plugs and the selling line as those two things for me are efficiently done. My weaknesses would probably be Like mentioned above the images at the bottom and the barcode looking a little stretched. As I think these were just silly mistakes and things could have placed there that would have looked better. Or even re – sized to proportion.
  • 8. Audience Appeal I have appealed to my target audience by making my magazine look like the other gaming magazines out on the market, as their audience is my audience. My magazine also appeals to the my target audience as it filters around the predominately male criteria section I was going for, being the main color of blue. Although the blue color I have used and the white could be said of giving a female vibe as well and that the game that is being showcased is a unisex game as well. So in fact I haven’t really appealed to the target audience I said I was going for. The specific bits from my magazine that would appeal to my audience would be the games that are also being included inside, noticing that there is two console symbols in both top hand corners of the magazine. As I did mention that I would like to include diversity into my magazine, as most magazine just restrict themselves to one console or one device but this particular one includes two. Another bit would be the color scheme of the magazine as mentioned above the color blue could imply masculinity. Another reason I believe I have appealed to my target audience Is that I have reviewed my feedback and all my audience have loved my magazine products, yes, they gave some faults but throughout the whole feedback they enjoyed my product and told me that it appealed to them. Another specific bit I would perhaps say that appeals to my audience would be the authenticity of the magazine, the professionalism of how it looks and I believe my audience seek that and that it interests them.
  • 10. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? • I liked how the product told me what kind of magazine it was before I even looked closer into it. You could tell instantly that this magazine was a game one. I like the plug and the sub-headings that appeared upon the game magazine, as they were both very effective in how they were used. • What improvements could have been made to the product? • A few improvements could be made with this particular magazine as I believe the images at the bottom don’t really fit in with the magazine and they could really go as they aren’t really needed. Another improvement could be that the plug writing could have been brighter and bolder as it was quite hard to read.
  • 11. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? – It follows all the conventions of a real media product, and looks professional. – It uses a set colour scheme. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – The images at the bottom are a little too close to the edge and seem to almost fall off the page. – The barcode, along with the images at the bottom seem a little stretched, and could be a bit cleaner.
  • 12. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? – The layout is rather nice, as well the fonts for the text and the colour scheme • What improvements could have been made to the product? – The game images at the bottom of the page are a bit stretched out also the price pf the magazine font could be made cleaner and a lot more condensed.
  • 13. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? • I agree with a lot of what my peers have said about my work, as all comments are fair and have been justly explained. I agree that the colour scheme was effective and looked good, this was actually one of my favourite things about my magazine as the colour scheme actually fit so well, so I’m glad someone picked up on it. Another thing that I agreed with was the plug’s and my other things like my sub-headings were correctly used and were used to entice the audience, which worked. So as with my first comment I’m glad people enjoyed seeing what I was trying to showcase. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? • I disagree with a few things from my feedback, as I believe some comments were a bit harsh. For example there was one case where someone suggested that my images at the bottom of my page were unnecessarily and shouldn’t have been used there. Which for me was slightly rash as I didn’t think those pictures were wrongly placed, I felt as if they were placed there to symbolise what was going to be featured in the magazine. Another thing that came up a couple of times was the barcode looking as if it had been stretched, which I disagree with as I believe that it looks normal and actually far from stretched.
  • 14. Peer Feedback Summary The changes I would make to my product, after seeing the feedback I have been given would probably be the images at the bottom of the page, as from closer inspection they do look a bit out of place and a bit pointless being there. I would probably just delete them as they are already mentioned on the front cover of my magazine anyway and then just leave the arrow image there instead. As I believe that was quite a effective idea to use, as it implies the reader to turn the page, peaking interest. Another change would possibly be the barcode although not a big change as it does look a bit stretched, so I would probably just try to level it out a bit more than it already is. As perhaps that may make it look a bit better than it already does. Another change I would make would be the writing in the plug as admittedly the writing is slightly hard to read and doesn't really stand out like I would have liked it to have done. So If I did have the chance to change I would probably make the writing a deeper color or made the outline color bolder so the writing is clearer to read. Another possibility could also be making the plug box a little brighter or even a blackish color as then perhaps it would have stood at more than it already does. A different font could of helped as well and I think that this would have approved the plug’s appearance, peaking the audiences interest.
