3. Research
⢠The research helped me to collect a few ideas from the existing products
which I think in my opinion have helped me to decide how my layout
would be and what I want to produce in my final product. Using the
existing products also helped me to decide what kind of content would
make my products interesting to my audience which is teenagers.
⢠Analysing the answers from my questionnaire I could think and decide
what would make my product interesting and appealing to my audience by
using their answers to collect their opinions and interests. Also, the survey
was easy to distribute, to get the responses that I needed, I sent the
survey to all my friends and shared it on the Blackboard so that all
Creative Mediaâs students were able to do the survey.
⢠The audience profile helped me to decide what contents would be
appealing to my audience, it helped me to see closely what would catch
my audienceâs attention.
⢠I think the interviews are quite limited of information because it is from
two specific people; it doesnât give the opinion from all my respondents.
Next time, I will be more specific on my survey, I would make the
questions more detailed, which I think would give me more information
about what my audience want to see in my products.
4. Planning
⢠Initial Plans PowerPoint helped me to decide the products that I wanted to
produce, for example, I chose magazine cover, double page spread and
sketchbook. I think it is the initial thing to do before you start thinking
about your product, you need to plan everything to put all your ideas
together. The Mood Board helped to see the colour scheme and layout
that I was planning to use on my products. It also helped me to have an
idea how I would sketch the designs.
⢠The style sheet was really effective in my product, using the style sheet I
could collect different fonts that I liked from the website and sometimes I
forgot about the name of the font, so the style sheet helped me to
remember the name.
⢠I would definitely improve my mind map because I think I didnât give lots
of details, I just described what I wanted to produce. Next time I will be
more specific in some parts of the final idea, it will help me more in the
future.
5. Time Management
⢠I managed my time well, all my work was finished in time. I have
completed all my project in time, but if I had more time I would give some
details in my product that I think with some improvements would make
the product better.
⢠I would definitely take more pictures of my model wearing pastel clothes
as I was planning before. I also would improve the plugs on the magazine
cover, I think it wasnât related with summer season and in my plans the
colour scheme would be pink and light colours. I really liked the double
page spread because the modelâs picture matched with the background
and all information about fashion trends.
⢠The schedule helped me to manage my time well which also helped me to
remember the deadline and with this I could finish and send my project in
time.
6. Technical Qualities
⢠I think this existing product is similar to my
product because of the layout of the magazine,
the plugs around the modelâs body making the
magazine interest and easy to read. Also, the
buzz word âExclusiveâ, this is captive which
makes the audience draws their attention to
that. In both magazine, the main image is
positioned in the middle of the magazine, I used
this idea because it would help the audience
recognize the celebrity in the front cover.
⢠The size of the image in both are different and
also the colour scheme from both; on my
magazine I used blue pastel which would match
with the modelâs outfit, whereas in the existing
product is pink pastel. In the existing product,
they used a plug to show the price of the
magazine and the logo of the company, on my
product I didnât use any of this, but I think next
time I would create a logo to use in my products
because I think it makes the magazine original
and unique.
7. Technical Qualities
⢠In both magazine double page contains
only one main image of the celebrity in
a simple background with makes the
content more attractive. I used this
existing product as an idea to create my
own product, I used a technique to
delete the background of my modelâs
image to look similar to the existent
product. I added some text around the
modelâs body which I quite like it
because I used all empty space that I
could use and make it looks more
professional. I used the same idea of
using an quote from the celebrity and
use it in a different font to make the
audience draws their attention to read
the article.
⢠One of the differences is that in the
headline of the existing product the size
of the font is large and they added a
more texts.
8. Technical Qualities
⢠The sketches are in the same position
and both are colourful.
⢠In my product I added some information
about the design which I think would
help the audience to know a little bit
more about the design. I tried to use all
the ideas that I have collected from the
internet in my sketchbook. Whereas in
the existing product, there is only the
sketches from one artist and a signature
on the bottom. Also, the background is
different, in my product I chose a pastel
colour so the audience see the design
clear. On my product I used a variety of
pastel colours, whereas on the existing
product they only used shades of blue.
9. Aesthetic Qualities
I like the colours that I used in this project, I think
it looks eye catching because of the fonts are
attractive and matches with summer season. I like
the most is the Summer Lovinâ in the double page
spread, I chose two different fonts because it gives
a nice appearance to the page and with this help
get easy the audienceâs attention. In the
sketchbook I really like the colours of the outfit
and the white line around the sketches.
The strength of my product is that I could improve
my photograph and drawing skills, I had to take
pictures of my model to use in my magazine cover
and double page. I also had to sketch the design of
the sketchbook.
A weaknesses of this product is that I didnât plan
to use a dark colour on the magazine front cover, I
had to use the colour that would matches with the
modelâs clothes which I think I would improve in
the next time, I would make sure that I have
enough time to take more images if I donât like the
images or the clothes that my model is wearing.
Also, I would use light colours in the fonts of the
magazine cover because it is quite dark, which
make the content too hard to read.
10. Audience Appeal
⢠I think I have appealed to my audience
because I based my products on the
information that my audience has
given to me from the survey and
interviews. The audience has
influenced my products. They helped
me to decide the colour, the name of
the magazine and they gave me their
opinions about fashion which has
helped me to make the products
appealing to them. I really like the
colours and the fonts that I have used
in my products.
⢠The audience might be interested in
reading/buying my products because
of the attractive colours and the large
fonts which I think catches the
attention easily.
12. Feedback 1
⢠What did you like about the product?
â One thing I liked about the front cover is that the colours all contrast of each other, this works
well because the colours all have there own assets that fit the topic and it even fits with the
clothes that the model is wearing.
â One thing I like about the double page spread is that there is a lot of consistency through the
writing sections as there are bolder areas for the questions and lighter areas for the
responses. This works because its showing the reader what the focusâ are of the magazine
article.
â One thing I like about the sketches is how with each sketch there is a colour scheme sat next
to it. This works because it gives context to what has been provided for the reader.
⢠What improvements could have been made to the
product?
â One thing that could be improved on the front cover is that some of the text has become
illegible to read as the blues connect, which makes it harder to read from close or a far.
Another thing is that there is no barcode/price for the magazine.
â One thing that could be improved about the double page spread is consistency of sizing, from
what I can see some parts arenât the same size even though there talking in the same section.
Another thing that could be improved is the precise spacing of the words to the photo.
â One final thing that could be improved on the sketches is that the could be more content
talking about the sketches and why they were done, or the inspirations behind them. This
would give you more content and more to reflect on for yourself, which could improve future
work.
Male, 16 years old.
13. Feedback 2
⢠What did you like about the product?
â I like the layout you have done with all of them how they look realistic like the
magazine I like how the model is in the centre with the writing around her.
â I also like how you have added a summer collection as thatâs unique and I have
never seen someone do that before.
â I like the fonts you have used for all your products I specially like the font on
the double spread page saying âSummer Lovinâ I find that it stands out as the
white makes it pop.
â I also really like the colour scheme you have picked for the 3 products as
theyâre all different which makes each piece of work pop.
⢠What improvements could have been made to the product?
â I feel that on your magazine cover you canât really see the text on the
exclusive bit as the blue is quite dark its making the black text hard to see.
â I also think that on the summer collection I find the writing on the page quite
hard to see as well, however I like that its hand written as it fits with the
sketches that are also hand drawn.
Female, 17 years old
14. Feedback 3
⢠What did you like about the product?
â The illustrations are very neat and professional looking, the colour added into
the sketches and the patterns is very well done. The font matches the style of
the rest of the book.
â The cut out of the model on your cover is very clean and smooth, you canât
tell that you edited it in Photoshop. The cover is really minimalistic and
simplistic, which looks great and modern.
â The double page spread is really professional looking, the bold writing draws
attention into the article. The image looks very high quality.
⢠What improvements could have been made to the product?
â Some of the writing was hard to read because of the lines on the front cover.
â The writing is a little harder to read in the scrap book section.
Female, 19 years old.
15. Peer Feedback Summary
⢠What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
â I strongly agree that in the front cover the text is quite hard to read, I think I
should use another colour on the font that would make it easily to read. I also
agree that in the sketchbook the writing is harder to read, but the important
things are the sketches and the colours of the outfits, the texts were only a
little detail that I thought it was going to make a good appearance in the
sketchbook.
â I agree that there is some empty spaces in the double page spread, next time
I would add more content, for example, celebrity news, quiz or more interview
questions. I think the quiz would be a good idea, it would make the audience
feels involved with the magazine double page by responding the quiz about
something in fashion area.
⢠What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
â I disagree that in the sketchbook the writing needed to be about the
inspirations, the intention of using this writing was only to make it looks like a
sketchbook with colour scheme, short notes and the most important, the
sketches of summer collection.
16. Peer Feedback Summary
Analysing my feedback, I could see the improvements that would have made
my product look better. I really would improve the colour of the fonts on the
magazine front cover because I think the colour that I used make the content
is hard to read; I should have used light colours which I think would be more
eye catching. In the double page spread, I would add more content into the
empty space. I could of made a quick quiz so the audience could interact with
the magazine, it would make the magazine double page spread more
interesting. The other thing that I want to improve is taking pictures that
would match with the background colour that I was planning to do, in my
opinion it was quite hard to decide which colour to use for the front coverâs
background. However, I think I have made a good project because based on
my feedback there is only a few things that I could have improved on which I
strongly agree I will use to improve in further projects.
