Client Project
This shows that
their product are
appealing adults
aged 30 to 50
years old which
shows that in
that specific area
only adults are
interested on
this type of
magazine.
In fact, 45% of their
audience don’t read
travel magazine
More of the
half is female
leaving 38% as
male. This is
good because it
shows that
female are
more interested
in this area.
However, in this
magazine, the age
range is different, it is
appealing for young
adults and again
female’s are the most
interested in travel
magazine.
This is also showing that their audience
are more interested into digital
magazines than print which leads to
another possibility of having a digital
magazine for the audience. I like the
way that they collected facts about
their audience.
They age range and the average age are a bit different than what
I’m aiming for which is 16 to 24 years old and because of this, I will
be making my product that will be targeting this audience.
Primary Audience Research
• In the survey I was able to provide
some information about my audience
such as their age and gender. I was
also able to know what they like
about York and what would be
interesting to see in the book. I asked
them relevant questions so that it
could help me somehow during the
production of this project. For
example I asked places that would be
interesting to see in the front cover of
the book and what could be a
valuable information for tourist to
learn about York. Through this I can
make a proper product for this
audience based on their responses.
Audience
• This shows that my product needs to be eye catching for my
audience, meaning that I need to know the areas that they are
interested on and know what would make them buy or read a
magazine.
• I will make an informative magazine showing the interesting touristic
places in York. To make this appealing for my audience I will be
making some adjustments such as language, I can make it informal
and use eye catching cover lines to make the audience feel attached
with the article and the magazine itself. In the article I’m also
thinking to add a bit of history about that specific location which I
believe will be making the magazine educative and interesting for
young adults. For the article there’s many things about the
architecture and interior design that interests me the most so I will
be making a product based on this.
• While analysing my survey I was able to know my audience’s opinion
about the places in York that they would be interesting for them to
see in my product. This is important because through this I can make
a product based on their opinions which will make it even more
appealing to them. It also shows that my audience is female aged 15
to 24 which is what I was hoping for.
York Demographic
• The total population of York as of the 2011 census was
198,051, but this number has increased from the past years
changing it to 208,200 as of 2017. In 2011 the number of
women were 101,797 leaving 98,254 as men which lead us to
more than 50% as female. The age statistics in York is showing
that there are 158,773 adults above the age of 16. The
majority are between the ages of 35 and 54 which makes the
median age as 38 years.
• York is an old city with interesting histories all over the city
bringing stories such as the Vikings and the National Railway
Museum.

York Attractions
• York Minster is one of the famous touristic
places of York. It is also the principal and
the biggest cathedral in the city. This can be
interesting for young adults as they might
be interested in architecture and history. It
has so many history at the cathedral, so
much to discovery which makes it even
more interesting for the audience.
• To have a totally different experience as
knowing how was the Vikings lives during
their time it’s really interesting to know
their history. The Jorvik Viking Centre takes
their visitors into an amazing journey back
in time. I believe that this would give the
audience a good knowledge into the past
to have a bit taste of a Viking life.

• The Clifford’s Tower stands as a
proud symbol of England’s
medieval kings’ power. York Castle
is one of the best-loved landmarks
in York. It has so many fascinating
history into one place, since 1068-
9.
• I think that York Art Gallery can be
interesting for those who loves art,
architecture and interior design.
• The tourist in the National Railway
Museum are able to pass through
the trains that queens and kings
owned in the past, it has many
different trains that was used in
the past. They also like going in
there to have a nice and lovely
coffee or tea in the café.

Existing Work
Existing Products
• While researching the images it helped me to think about this
project, the angles of the images that I will be taking and also
how to make it appealing for the specific audience. I want to
make a magazine that will be interesting for my audience, a
magazine that contain all the information necessary for their
lives, to inform what is going on in the city that they live and
what can be nice to visit and what won’t. This products help
me to collect useful ideas so that I can be able to use as
inspiration in my own product such as the way the picture was
taken or the layout of how the image was positioned in the
middle of the page.
• To produce this project I will try experiment new things such
as in the masthead using different textures so that it could
give a good appearance to the product. I will also need to plan
the shooting so that the weather can collaborate with it.
Experiments
The glitch effect is a simple effect
that changes the distortion of
image making it create an effect
that the image is moving. Based on
the tutorial it only uses simple
Photoshop filters such as noise and
distort. It just need to change the
levels of the distort which changes
the selected areas.
Daily Photoshop Effect. (2018). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00IGfSWW1UY
• I found this idea creative, I liked
the way that the colours matches
and also I looked up into a tutorial
which shows exactly how to
create this geometric design. I
used another ellipse to explore if
it’s possible to make the circle
into 4 different images. I might
use this idea to make the cover
interesting for the audience. I
rotated the image so that it could
create a mirror effect.

Idea Generation
Proposal
• For this project I will be making an informative book about York. The
main purpose of this is to give suitable information about principal
touristic places around York. In this book will have interesting curiosity
about that specific location upon the architecture and the interior
designing of it. I want to make an artistic cover for this book which will
be interesting to experiment and develop new skills during the process.
For this product I intend to experiment new effects that I collected when
I was researching, for example, I will be using the geometric effect in the
cover of the book, this will make the cover interesting for the audience. I
was also able to learn how to use free fonts properly without concern
about the copyrights.
• I believe that I will need to research more about the city or the specific
location that I’ll be talking about. This will be helping me to have an idea
of what to write about the place, the curiosities about and the history of
it. To evaluate this product I will be collecting responses for per
feedback, this will help me to know the opinion of that specific audience
about my product; their likes and dislikes about it, things that need to
be improved. I can also compare my product with existing products,
which I think will also help me to compare how they appealed to their
audience.

Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Lose pictures. Make sure that only delete images
after the project, I might need the
image later.
Lose work. Make sure that I’m frequently saving
the project in the correct location.
If the weather don’t collaborate. Have a backup plan.
If the location is completely booked in
the day.
Make sure that I book it in advance.
Lose the SD card or don’t bring the SD
while using the image.
Save the image properly in the
computer so that I don’t lose any
work.
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided?
Back pains. Sit straight, take small breaks and walk
a bit if necessary.
Headaches. Make sure that I’m using my glasses
which will avoid getting headaches,
take some breaks, drink some water.
Accidents crossing a street. Look both sides before crossing and
make sure that the lights are red and
signalizing to cross.

evaluating it.
Layouts
Style Sheet
Reflection – Week 1
• For this week I basically started
producing the front and the back
cover. Firstly I went to town to get
some images so that I could be
able to start producing it. Then I
started creating the product based
on the experiments which I didn’t
like it because it wasn’t good, it
could be better, it wasn’t exactly
what I wanted to do. After some
researching I came up with this
existing product that was quite
simple but it was much better than
the previous one that I made.
First Try
Second Try
• To create the castle silhouette
I thought that it would be a
difficult process but I only
used quick select tool to
select all the castle and then
selected inverse to keep the
castle instead of deleting it.
Then I just used the brush tool
to paint the castle in black.
After that I used the original
image I decided to cut out
some of the windows so that
it could be more interesting
which would also help the
audience to know exactly the
place.
Week 2
• I start producing the pages of the
book which I found it a bit trickier
as I didn’t know where to start. So
I started to create the same idea
of the cover, silhouettes so that
the book could have an interesting
background, I got this idea from
the book that I’m currently
reading. It has some drawings and
silhouettes which I found
interesting. Tomorrow I will be
finishing this page so that I can
have an idea of how the rest of it
will look like. To create this I used
the select tool and to give a bit of
details I used magnetic lasso tool
to cut the windows.
• I continued giving more details
to the page which in my
opinion has made the page
much more interesting. This
will help the audience know
where is the place. I intend to
give a final detail so that I can
move on to the the next page.
It turned out really well, I
thought it would have lots of
information but it made the
page much more interesting
and gave a really good
appearance to the page. To
give details I used the erase
tool which I found easier to
use, specially in bits that was
quite small. I also used the
graphic tablet to give even
more details in the trees.
• I changed the colour of the
background to yellow which I think
made such a good difference. I
decided to use yellow because it is
more eye catching and it works so
well with the black giving a good
appearance to the front and the
back cover. I also started another
page using another touristic place
from York, the Clifford's Tower. I
decided to make silhouettes with
the images which I think has made
the pages much more interesting
because of the layout. I used the
same tools as before and finished
the page by giving some details in
the building.
Week 3
• I decided to finish the first page that I
started creating, the shambles. Firstly, I
make the picture that I took into a
transparency background and then
changed the colour to the same colour
as the background using the ‘Colour
Overlay’ in layer styles. I really liked the
colour of the page, I wasn’t sure of
which colour to use, the black or grey.
Then I wrote a bit about the street and
used an image of the famous shop in
there; the Harry Potter’s shop. To give
more information about the place I also
used a screenshot of the map changing
the colour of the point to make it a bit
different and interesting for the
audience. After that I created the new
page so that I couldn’t take too much
into one particular page, I started
producing the last page using the same
method as before.
Week 4
• I finished all the pages that I started
in the past weeks making sure that
all of them was in a good quality as I
wanted them to be. I also started
create another page but I didn’t had
enough time to finish it so I focused
on the ones that was already
finished which is the front and back
page, shambles page and the
Clifford's tower. I really liked how it
ended I just think it could be
improved with time. I also tried to
make the pages into a pattern so
that it can have a good appearance.
To make it look better I drawn the
details using the graphic tablets and
the brush tool with the erase tool.

Client's Project

  • 2. This shows that their product are appealing adults aged 30 to 50 years old which shows that in that specific area only adults are interested on this type of magazine. In fact, 45% of their audience don’t read travel magazine More of the half is female leaving 38% as male. This is good because it shows that female are more interested in this area.
  • 3. However, in this magazine, the age range is different, it is appealing for young adults and again female’s are the most interested in travel magazine. This is also showing that their audience are more interested into digital magazines than print which leads to another possibility of having a digital magazine for the audience. I like the way that they collected facts about their audience. They age range and the average age are a bit different than what I’m aiming for which is 16 to 24 years old and because of this, I will be making my product that will be targeting this audience.
  • 4. Primary Audience Research • In the survey I was able to provide some information about my audience such as their age and gender. I was also able to know what they like about York and what would be interesting to see in the book. I asked them relevant questions so that it could help me somehow during the production of this project. For example I asked places that would be interesting to see in the front cover of the book and what could be a valuable information for tourist to learn about York. Through this I can make a proper product for this audience based on their responses.
  • 5. Audience • This shows that my product needs to be eye catching for my audience, meaning that I need to know the areas that they are interested on and know what would make them buy or read a magazine. • I will make an informative magazine showing the interesting touristic places in York. To make this appealing for my audience I will be making some adjustments such as language, I can make it informal and use eye catching cover lines to make the audience feel attached with the article and the magazine itself. In the article I’m also thinking to add a bit of history about that specific location which I believe will be making the magazine educative and interesting for young adults. For the article there’s many things about the architecture and interior design that interests me the most so I will be making a product based on this. • While analysing my survey I was able to know my audience’s opinion about the places in York that they would be interesting for them to see in my product. This is important because through this I can make a product based on their opinions which will make it even more appealing to them. It also shows that my audience is female aged 15 to 24 which is what I was hoping for.
  • 6. York Demographic • The total population of York as of the 2011 census was 198,051, but this number has increased from the past years changing it to 208,200 as of 2017. In 2011 the number of women were 101,797 leaving 98,254 as men which lead us to more than 50% as female. The age statistics in York is showing that there are 158,773 adults above the age of 16. The majority are between the ages of 35 and 54 which makes the median age as 38 years. • York is an old city with interesting histories all over the city bringing stories such as the Vikings and the National Railway Museum. • 7. York Attractions • York Minster is one of the famous touristic places of York. It is also the principal and the biggest cathedral in the city. This can be interesting for young adults as they might be interested in architecture and history. It has so many history at the cathedral, so much to discovery which makes it even more interesting for the audience. • To have a totally different experience as knowing how was the Vikings lives during their time it’s really interesting to know their history. The Jorvik Viking Centre takes their visitors into an amazing journey back in time. I believe that this would give the audience a good knowledge into the past to have a bit taste of a Viking life. • 10. Existing Products • While researching the images it helped me to think about this project, the angles of the images that I will be taking and also how to make it appealing for the specific audience. I want to make a magazine that will be interesting for my audience, a magazine that contain all the information necessary for their lives, to inform what is going on in the city that they live and what can be nice to visit and what won’t. This products help me to collect useful ideas so that I can be able to use as inspiration in my own product such as the way the picture was taken or the layout of how the image was positioned in the middle of the page. • To produce this project I will try experiment new things such as in the masthead using different textures so that it could give a good appearance to the product. I will also need to plan the shooting so that the weather can collaborate with it.

  • 12. Experiments The glitch effect is a simple effect that changes the distortion of image making it create an effect that the image is moving. Based on the tutorial it only uses simple Photoshop filters such as noise and distort. It just need to change the levels of the distort which changes the selected areas. Daily Photoshop Effect. • 13. • I found this idea creative, I liked the way that the colours matches and also I looked up into a tutorial which shows exactly how to create this geometric design. I used another ellipse to explore if it’s possible to make the circle into 4 different images. I might use this idea to make the cover interesting for the audience. I rotated the image so that it could create a mirror effect. Odisho, J. (2016). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHeEF6rRbBE
  • 15. Proposal • For this project I will be making an informative book about York. The main purpose of this is to give suitable information about principal touristic places around York. In this book will have interesting curiosity about that specific location upon the architecture and the interior designing of it. I want to make an artistic cover for this book which will be interesting to experiment and develop new skills during the process. For this product I intend to experiment new effects that I collected when I was researching, for example, I will be using the geometric effect in the cover of the book, this will make the cover interesting for the audience. I was also able to learn how to use free fonts properly without concern about the copyrights. • I believe that I will need to research more about the city or the specific location that I’ll be talking about. This will be helping me to have an idea of what to write about the place, the curiosities about and the history of it. To evaluate this product I will be collecting responses for per feedback, this will help me to know the opinion of that specific audience about my product; their likes and dislikes about it, things that need to be improved. I can also compare my product with existing products, which I think will also help me to compare how they appealed to their audience.

  • 17. Contingency Planning Potential Issue Solution Lose pictures. Make sure that only delete images after the project, I might need the image later. Lose work. Make sure that I’m frequently saving the project in the correct location. If the weather don’t collaborate. Have a backup plan. If the location is completely booked in the day. Make sure that I book it in advance. Lose the SD card or don’t bring the SD while using the image. Save the image properly in the computer so that I don’t lose any work.
  • 18. Health and Safety Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided? Back pains. Sit straight, take small breaks and walk a bit if necessary. Headaches. Make sure that I’m using my glasses which will avoid getting headaches, take some breaks, drink some water. Accidents crossing a street. Look both sides before crossing and make sure that the lights are red and signalizing to cross.
  • 19. Production Schedule Day/Lesson Task Day 1 • Select the pictures that has the best qualities. • Start producing the front cover of the book. Day 2 • Continue producing the front cover. Day 3 • Finish producing the front cover. Day 4 • Start the back cover creating a flight advert. Day 5 • Back cover production. Day 6 • Finish the back cover. Day 7 • Start producing the content page using some knowledge of the past experiments. Day 8 • Continue producing the rest of the pages. Day 9 • Finish producing the pages, see if there’s any improvements to add. Day 10 • Finish the rest of the product and start evaluating it.
  • 22. Reflection – Week 1 • For this week I basically started producing the front and the back cover. Firstly I went to town to get some images so that I could be able to start producing it. Then I started creating the product based on the experiments which I didn’t like it because it wasn’t good, it could be better, it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do. After some researching I came up with this existing product that was quite simple but it was much better than the previous one that I made. First Try Second Try
  • 23. • To create the castle silhouette I thought that it would be a difficult process but I only used quick select tool to select all the castle and then selected inverse to keep the castle instead of deleting it. Then I just used the brush tool to paint the castle in black. After that I used the original image I decided to cut out some of the windows so that it could be more interesting which would also help the audience to know exactly the place.
  • 24. Week 2 • I start producing the pages of the book which I found it a bit trickier as I didn’t know where to start. So I started to create the same idea of the cover, silhouettes so that the book could have an interesting background, I got this idea from the book that I’m currently reading. It has some drawings and silhouettes which I found interesting. Tomorrow I will be finishing this page so that I can have an idea of how the rest of it will look like. To create this I used the select tool and to give a bit of details I used magnetic lasso tool to cut the windows.
  • 25. • I continued giving more details to the page which in my opinion has made the page much more interesting. This will help the audience know where is the place. I intend to give a final detail so that I can move on to the the next page. It turned out really well, I thought it would have lots of information but it made the page much more interesting and gave a really good appearance to the page. To give details I used the erase tool which I found easier to use, specially in bits that was quite small. I also used the graphic tablet to give even more details in the trees.
  • 26. • I changed the colour of the background to yellow which I think made such a good difference. I decided to use yellow because it is more eye catching and it works so well with the black giving a good appearance to the front and the back cover. I also started another page using another touristic place from York, the Clifford's Tower. I decided to make silhouettes with the images which I think has made the pages much more interesting because of the layout. I used the same tools as before and finished the page by giving some details in the building.
  • 27. Week 3 • I decided to finish the first page that I started creating, the shambles. Firstly, I make the picture that I took into a transparency background and then changed the colour to the same colour as the background using the ‘Colour Overlay’ in layer styles. I really liked the colour of the page, I wasn’t sure of which colour to use, the black or grey. Then I wrote a bit about the street and used an image of the famous shop in there; the Harry Potter’s shop. To give more information about the place I also used a screenshot of the map changing the colour of the point to make it a bit different and interesting for the audience. After that I created the new page so that I couldn’t take too much into one particular page, I started producing the last page using the same method as before.
  • 28. Week 4 • I finished all the pages that I started in the past weeks making sure that all of them was in a good quality as I wanted them to be. I also started create another page but I didn’t had enough time to finish it so I focused on the ones that was already finished which is the front and back page, shambles page and the Clifford's tower. I really liked how it ended I just think it could be improved with time. I also tried to make the pages into a pattern so that it can have a good appearance. To make it look better I drawn the details using the graphic tablets and the brush tool with the erase tool.
